*GASP* how am I supposed to answer with just one???
Ok I won't answer with just one HAHA
There is a LIST (order doesn't really mean anything btw) :
-Ask the Passengers by A.S. King and The Lesbiana's Guide to Catholic School by Sonora Reyes (I KNOW I KEEP MENTIONING THEM BUT SERIOUSLY PEOPLE IF YOU LOVE LESBIANS AND FAMILY DYNAMICS THEN READ THEM)
-Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan (this one is fantasy and has sword fighting and the main character is gay so whoop whoop! However TW for s*xual assault and r*pe. It doesn't go into detail but ya know the context might be hard or may not! I'm just being safe.)
-Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills (this one is more about friendship and finding yourself but it does have queer characters in here :D)
-Dear Rachel Maddow by Adrienne Kisner (another ya queer romance)
-Yerba Buena by Nina LaCour (I actually didn't get to finish this one but from what I read I liked it so....yeah.)
-The Lions of Little Rock by Kristin Levine (this one I loved when I was younger)
-The Love and Lies of Rukhsana Ali by Sabina Khan (warning conversion therapy kind of???)
-Each of Us a Desert by Mark Oshiro (I'm currently reading this one and so far it is *chefs kiss*)
Okay I'll stop there! Thank you for the ask! It was so fun looking through these books again!

Dear Rachel Maddow by Adrienne Kisner
Tumblr media
Today's sapphic book of the day is Dear Rachel Maddow by Adrienne Kisner!
Summary: "Brynn Haper's life has one steadying force--Rachel Maddow.
She watches her daily, and after writing to Rachel for a school project--and actually getting a response--Brynn starts drafting e-mails to Rachel but never sending them. Brynn tells Rachel about breaking up with her first serious girlfriend, about her brother Nick's death, about her passive mother and even worse stepfather, about how she's stuck in remedial courses at school and is considering dropping out.
Then Brynn is confronted with a moral dilemma. One student representative will be allowed to have a voice among the administration in the selection of a new school superintendent. Brynn's archnemesis, Adam, and ex-girlfriend, Sarah, believe only Honors students are worthy of the selection committee seat. Brynn feels all students deserve a voice. When she runs for the position, the knives are out. So she begins to ask herself: What Would Rachel Maddow Do?"

After Adrienne Kisner’s last book I just had to read another one of their books! While Six Angry Girls is definitely my favorite of the two I did enjoy this book as well! I loved hearing about Brynn Harper’s life through e-mails, watching her grapple with the injustice at her school, and try to figure out her own life. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm5ZMFoL4Az/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Fiction Books Featuring Asexual Characters
Going to make this an ongoing list. Starting small. Ones I’ve read myself, and then if anyone ever has any to recommend me let me know, this is just for myself to have and refer back to and in case anyone else wants.
For now it’s mainly aroace but I’m totally down for other books, it’s just harder to know if they’re asexual if they have love interests unless specifically stated (please help!!) (Some things may be spoilers?!?!)
1. Loveless by Alice Oseman (Character: Georgia, main character, book focuses on being aroace)
2. Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng (Character: Mia, main character, mentioned in passing without using the language but then her entire character seems to make way more sense)
3. Tell No Tales by C. Chancy (2 main characters who are asexual!!)
4. Radio Silence by Alice Oseman (a main character, Abed, is demisexual)
5. The Midnight Bargain by C. L. Polk (a main character, Ysbeta, is aroace— major plot point in the book, the word is not used but she blatantly expresses not being attracted to anyone and it drives the narrative)
6. ACES WILD BY AMANDA DEWITT (all caps because I’m very excited for this but haven’t ready it yet— a heist book with an entire CAST of asexual characters?!?!?!)
7. Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger (aroace main character!!)
8. Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson (main character’s best friend is aroace!)
9. Six Angry Girls by Adrienne Kisner (one fo the main characters, Millie, is ace)
10. Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata (main character, Keiko, is aroace-- a main theme of the book is that the people in her life find it odd that she has no desire to be in a relationship or reach milestones similar to others, the social expectations and disappointments felt very familiar)

book review | Six Angry Girls
Author: Adrienne Kisner
Cover Design: Mallory Grigg (the design here and in the interior is so fun)
Cover Illustration: Noël Kalmus
Genre: YA Fiction, Realistic Fiction

I’m forever on the hunt for an enjoyable YA novel centered around feminism that’s but unfortunately this book was not for me. I admire the premise - activism, knitting, and mock trial are interesting topics for YA and the idea of six diverse, female characters in one novel was exciting. In the end, I just could not get my head around the confusing POV switching and clunky writing style (there are almost no contractions). The mock trial plot was fun at first, but in the end I lost interest as strong character development failed to emerge and the various subplots got in the way.

Title: Dear Rachel Maddow
Author: Adrienne Kisner
Prompt: 3 - a book with a neurodivergent protagonist
Rating: 4/5 stars
Summary (from Amazon): Brynn Haper's life has one steadying force―Rachel Maddow. She watches her daily, and after writing to Rachel for a school project―and actually getting a response―Brynn starts drafting e-mails to Rachel but never sending them. So she begins to ask herself: What Would Rachel Maddow Do?
Review: I really enjoyed this book. I liked the epistolary style, and I loved Brynn’s voice. I thought the message of the book was great, and it made me laugh. However, I wish Brynn’s classmates had been more fleshed out, and I thought the main romance was a bit rushed. Beware trigger warnings for abuse, and sexual assault, but overall, I would recommend it.

Seventeen-year-old Laurel Graham has a singular, all-consuming ambition in this life: become the most renowned nature photographer and birder in the world. The first step to birding domination is to win the junior nature photographer contest run by prominent Fauna magazine. Winning runs in her blood—her beloved activist and nature-loving grandmother placed when she was a girl. One day Gran drags Laurel out on a birding expedition where the pair hear a mysterious call that even Gran can’t identify. The pair vow to find out what it is together, but soon after, Gran is involved in a horrible car accident. Now that Gran is in a coma, so much of Laurel's world is rocked. Her gran's house is being sold, developers are coming in to destroy the nature sanctuary she treasures, and she still can't seem to identify the mystery bird. Laurel’s confusion isn’t just a group of warblers—it’s about what means the most to her, and what she’s willing to do to fight to save it. Maybe--just maybe-if she can find the mystery bird, it will save her gran, the conservatory land, and herself.
