Another thing, I wish Sherl was a more meaningful member to the cast and he had some actual importance.

Like, in game he’s supposed to be the straight man/grumpy one of the group, doubting Katrielle’s strange plans and trying to keep her on track. Except the problem is, Katrielle doesn’t listen to him, and Ernest just follows whatever Kat says, so Sherl’s constantly outvoted or just brushed off. And they’re the only two who can hear him, so he’s out of luck trying to go with anyone else. Like he’s really only there to be snarky because he can’t really be anything else, given how this dynamic is

But I dunno, I just wish Sherl could have been more impactful to the overall plot instead of just a quirky side character? Like for example, having a scene where Sherl tells Katrielle to get her priorities in order (and there are actual stakes in this hypothetical scenario) and she has to actually listen to him, and then him being the actual grounding force of the trio, instead of just constantly ignoring him. Or maybe him being the one they go to for emotional support, or to just dump their feelings on while he gives some level of advice

I dunno, I just kind of wish Sherl had some actual impact to the group and he wasn’t just a character that could easily be cut out of the story if they wanted

reading the stolen throne makes me crazy like. if loghain was really in love with rowan, how does he think she would've felt when he left her son to die on a battlefield, tried to have her brother poisoned, and destroyed everything her family sacrificed to rebuild? during return to ostagar loghain says he didn't know cailan wanted to put anora aside, so why did he betray him?

AAAAAAAAAAAAA BRO I NEED IT

tl;dr is that Professor layton helped w trauma, listed is the journey through the games and future hype for PLWoS

So, I recently got into professor layton (a year ago, to be specific) and I must say, It has helped me SO FUCKIN MUCH WITH SO MUCH TRAUMA--

I have schizoeffective disorder. I have severe PTSD from years of mental and physical abuse from my parents. I have ADHD and may also be autistic, getting tested at 25 years is difficult.

When I started Professor Layton, I decided to play in release order--"I want to experience what long time fans experienced." I felt it would be more genuine. So, I downloaded an emulator (yeah i know, bad Vero) and started to play. I wrote down my reactions to each game after i beat them:

PLCB: THIS MAN GOT CHASED BY A FERRIS WHEEL!!!! THATS COOL AF! It was a really fun game, cool story with neat puzzles tHaT wErE hArD aF (i was kind of nonchalant about the games, just getting into them)

PLPB: ayo he got a box OH WAIT HE DED--i enjoyed the gameplay and watching the bad guy be the bad guy. interesting sequel, hopefully luke stays with the professor a long time lol (I jinxed it lol, also felt a bit more connected to Luke as a character and his admiration for Hershel)

(I took a long break after this one due to college lol but now i just play after my homework is done)

PLLF: I didnt write anything after this one. i just sat in silence for about a week, and I didnt eat for a few days. This was when my foster dad died, and i felt strangely as if i had healed a lot. After that week. I guess I just kinda took the time to process the loss of someone who i consider my true father. It was at this point I realized that playing the games had helped. I also didnt mentally process that luke left the professor lol until i watched someones playthrough of the last part of the game again

PLSC: BRO ITS LUKE AGAIN BUT HES YOUNGER AND HAS TRUST ISSUES WTF ITS MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE except luke didnt go through massive trauma (unless you count the ghost stuff and the witch stuff and the house stuff as trauma) yeah i like it very good

PLMM: RANDALL IS WAY TOO FUCKIN HOT FOR MY LIKING I JUST NNNNNGGGUHHUHUHUH also SIBLING BINDING WOOOOOOOOOOO

I am currently playing through Azran Legacy, and I must say it lives up to the hype. Havent reached the ending tho so im trying to not run into spoilers. also I know descole is sycamore im not dumb THEY LITERALLY LOOK ALIKE AND THE BUTLER IS THE SAME WTF if theyre not the same person im gonna spazzzzzzzz

All in all, I plan on figuring out how to a b s o r b all the content from the spin offs (in order to do this i also want to play all the phoenix wright games, wish me luck lol) and will eventually get the Katrielle game.

I have a lot to do in preparation for New World of Steam! I hope im able to do it in time, and also that its just as good as the previous games. I know Quizknock will do a good job, its just whether i will enjoy it or not.

Short soft story :

Alfendi hated fireworks, he hated every single loud bang to be honest, since Forbodium loud sound maked him anxious as if Keelan Makepeace was going to shoot him again.

Katrielle entered the Mystery Room slamming the door and jumping toward Lucy, they both looked extatic.... Alfendi wasn't, he knew that today a big firework festival was going to happen near Big Ben, the girls were talking about it since the beggining of the week, they had been calling eachother everyday to organize the whole thing, talking about what time is the best to be in front, who could come with them, what snacks to bring ... He wanted to be part of the fun but he knew that as soon as the first firework would explode he would start to have panic attacks ... the sound of it remembering him of that dreadfull night so he just ignored the girls and went back to work. The girl were still talking about it when Lucy asked the dreaded question :

"- Do ya want to come with us prof ?"

He looked at her, she was smilling, he didn't really know what to answer to her, he wanted to tell her the truth but a loud voice in his head told him to "shut up I don't want her to know that we are a fucking coward". Kat was the one to break the silence

"-Al won't come he is scared of fireworks

Potty came on front and said

-I'm not scared you idiot ... I just don't like it ... and I don't have to justify myself to anybody especially you !!

Lucy understood

-is this because of what happened 4 years ago ?

Alfendi was shocked, how did she understood so fast ? He didn't know what to say so he just nodded, Lucy looked at him and said

-ya know my pop did the war and he's also scared of fireworks, it's giving him flash-back of the bombs and gun getting shot.

Katrielle looked at her brother, he was shocked, she finally understood and said

-how could I have been so dumb ... of course it was that .... I'm sorry Al

Placid was back, he just sighed and said

-It's okay ... I would not have come anyway ... have fun tonight girls."

Lucy knew that Alfendi was lying she could feel it. This time she wasn't going to let him stay alone because of what happenned four years ago, she said with a determined look on her face

"- I know how to help ya come and have fun with us, the sound of the fireworks wont be a problem.

Both Kat and Al looked at Lucy with surprise, Alfendi was the one breaking the silence

- And how are you gonna do ? I'm very curious now.

-you'll see prof it's a surprise.

She winked at him, he wasn't convinced, Kat saw it and said with a big smile

- Let's make a bet : If Lucy and I manage to make you enjoy the firework with us you will have to invite both of us to eat in a restaurant of our choice.

- but if you can't ? What is in for me except a big panic attack and your two butts kicked by the other one ?

- Lucy and I will have to eat at Flora's house for a month.

Lucy looked confused, she didn't understood why eating at someone house was a bad thing but when she looked at Alfendi's face she understood that it was a bad thing, he said

- Make it two month and you have a deal."

Kat and Alfendi shook hands, Lucy looked confused but she also was happy that Alfendi was willing to do it.

After an hour Lucy finished her work and left the Mystery Room with Kat, they had some things to buy for tonight. Alfendi just went home to prepare himself, he was anxious, he asked himself why he had accepted the deal, Potty was insulting him so hard in his head but he couldn't blame him, he knew that the night was going to be horrible.

After some times Lucy and Katrielle were at the meetup point, they had everything, the snacks, the drinks and ... a bag that Lucy was holding tight, in this bag was the possible key to a perfect night and a delicious meal in a restaurant. Ten minutes later Alfendi arrived, he was wearing his signature stipped shirt and his hair down (witch was a pleasent surprise for Lucy who had never seen him without his ponytail), she noticed how anxious he was so she came to him and said :

"- Ya look good prof, with yer hair down like that it's a killer look.

He laughed a little bit then said

- Don't get used to it, I'm only keeping them down because we're not at work.

Lucy smiled

- Of course prof, are ya ready for the fireworks ?

He sighed and said

- Of course not, I regret even accepting the offer but ... if I can see you and Kat eat at Flora's place for two month it might be worth it.

- How bad is the food at Flora's place ?

- Just imagine colliflowers and ice-cream with pasta mixed into a soup.

- Yuck !

- Yup that is one of Flora's greatest receipes.

- Lucky for us we are going to win the bet.

- I hope you do, it would be sad to see you die from food poisoning."

Lucy looked at her watch, the firework was going to start really soon, she took her bag and asked

"- Prof could you bend down please ?

- Wait why ?

- Just do it please."

He sighed and bent down, Lucy grabbed something in her bag and putted it on his ear, it was noise canceling headphones, the best one on the market, at first Alfendi was confused but when he heard the silence around his he understood, he looked at Lucy she was getting a whiteboard out of her bag and wrote on it

"No noise no problemes"

The firework started and when the first one exploded Alfendi didn't heard a single sound, he was flabergasted, he forgot how beautiful fireworks were, Lucy and Kat looked at eachother and giggled they had made it, Alfendi was here with them and he was smiling, he was having a good time, Lucy took her whiteboard and wrote :

"Do you like it so far ?"

Alfendi answered while giving her a genuine smile.

"Yes thank you Lucy, you trully are an angel."

She blushed and wrote :

"You're welcome, you deserve to have fun after everything you had to go through"

Those words touched him in his heart, he was thinking about a way to thank her but nothing came ... except one idea.

- Lucy do you want me to carry you on my shoulders ?

She looked at him amused and wrote :

"Like a piggyback ride ?"

- Yes, you know since I'm tall you could see the spectacle from a higher perspective."

She wrote :

"I WOULD LOVE TOO"

Two seconds later she was on Alfendi's shoulder, looking at the fireworks and laughing, for the first time in her life she was taller than everyone, the view was amazing. Alfendi was also laughing and enjoying the spectacle, for the first time in four years he felt normal, he was having fun with his best friend and his little sister, the voice in his head was silent, he was feeling good.

After the finale he helped Lucy get off his shoulder and took the headset off and said :

"- Thank you girls, I forgot how nice it was to feel like a normal human being.

Lucy laughed and said

- You're welcome prof.

Katrielle said while looking at her brother

-I do beleive you owe us a meal at a restaurant.

- You are right Kat so ... where do you want to eat ?

Lucy said laughing

- The burger place next to the Yard.

Kat Laughed

- Yeah Lucy told me that they make the greatest burger of London.

-Okay ladies let's go then."

They walked together still laughing and feeling good, it was a good night, a night that they would never forget.

I wanna talk so bad about Hershel and him adopting Katrielle and then doing that fucking shit because like... I don't remember if he ever explained himself clearly about why he did all that but damn.

Dude adopted a girl, but for some fucking reasons he like... tried to go find her parents??? He left the girl behind, he went on a somewhat dangerous quest of looking for her bio parents and even left her a not saying "If I'm not your father then who am I?". Like mate.... at no moment Katrielle saw you as anything but her father, even the fucking note you left never budged her from that. And she's good, she's capable, she would've understood the hint if she went looking for it. But she didn't.

And what we have here at the end is Hershel, in the dumbfuck idea that, I don't know, he wasn't enough? He wasn't worthy? He wanted the best for Katrielle and he thought it was her parents? That he owed the truth to Katrielle and insted of teaching her stuff and helping her years later when she would want to figure out stuff about her parents??? Just..... left with Luke and ended up in fucking stasis for 10-11 years?????

Like the angst of it all. The fucking pain. Maybe I missed something but damn, imagine dude adopting, possibly a bit painfully since he never looked for anyone else after his girlfriend died then came back then died again, but adopting still because well, he's a good soul. (Or maybe because he knew something was fishy and decided to go look for the truth and the best way to provide it for Katrielle and shit was to adopt her?? I don't know but I'm starting to go wild a bit). Maybe even he saw himself in her since weird shit happened to him in the past and he was adopted too and he rather have Katrielle being able to learn about her parents by just asking him rather than discovering all that shit like he did.

to (attempt to) answer the questions you had on your professor layton post:

i’d say the games are still kinda popular! sure the layton tag isn’t filled with 100+ new posts a day but people still frequent the tag and talk about the games. i’m sure if you posted a lore question you’d probably get a couple replies within 24 hours

as for the phone game, depends which one you’re talking about! If you mean the mobile ports of the original game trilogy + Katrielle’s game I’d assume they’re just ports? Unfortunately i don’t have enough of a frame of reference to give you an answer on if they hold up or not. if you meant Mystery Room though, i’d say it’s pretty good! I wouldn’t count it as a Layton game since it doesn’t involve the puzzles the rest of the series uses, but that doesn’t make it a bad game!

Oh my gosh, Professor Layton! I absolutely adore that series. Which one is your favourite? Mine was always Miracle Mask because I found the characters and the story interesting, but Curious Village will always be special to me because it was my first. The Phoenix Wright crossover was cool, too. Damn, now I have to go back and replay them all again. The nostalgia is so real, but it was always nice to start getting more puzzles right first try as I aged. Take care! ❤️

it's been a while since i've played the layton series tbh! i really should replay it sometime. i think i really enjoyed both diabolical box + unwound future (american titles bc im an american) since i played the first trilogy in reverse order i'm pretty sure, so i have a soft spot for both of them. i admittedly used to write self insert fanfic for the series when i was younger lol but i was having a good time <3

literally went from 11 year old having fun to 15-16 year old cringing hard and saying self inserts are bad to 22 year old me today being like "actually self inserts are fun, idk what she was on"

i never actually played the phoenix right crossover or the one w katrielle tbh! its been sooo long since i've played the entire series... one day i'll replay all of it from start to finish.

also big mood to anon!! playing them as a kid was relying on a lot of walkthroughs for certain puzzles and eventually i kinda grew out of it. except for the fucking chocolate puzzle (number 67) in curious village...... fuck her. its only in the US version too!!!! like !!!! evil. fuck that puzzle. >:/

i still recommend the games for anyone who likes puzzles tho sdfkhsdf just know that the US version of that puzzle...... its so evil.

Ok, this is the first fic that I write with our new Captain America, Sam Wilson.

Short story: I heard that Jonas Brothers song and think in Sam in the moment. And I thought: Why not?

That moment I realized that I love write with Sam. It's a lovely character that deserved the world.

This is the first part of the fic, so at night maybe post the other part.

Part 1

You ain’t tryna be wasting time on stupid people in cheap lines, I’m sure, I’m sure…

- Excuse me, My friend sent me on a commission - I hear that voice in the distance and I feel that deja vu as if I had heard it before. I even have the feeling of knowing it.

- Name?

- James Barnes. The girl who always serve him knows him as Bucky.

Jenny laughs and mutters something I can’t hear. Wasn’t the sad-eyed boy outside? I focus on the cake in front of me, trying not to make mistakes in the new colors that identify Captain America, who was now the new obsession of all the children of the country.

- Charm, they are looking for you - Jenny enters my field of vision and I just raise my hands showing her that I have the shield in them and I was not going to leave it to deliver an order - It’s no excuse. You must go.

- Would you do me the favor of delivering it yourself?

- Nope. Go and then you’ll thank me.

She gently takes the sugar shield from my hands and hands me the package with Bucky’s order.

I shake my head as I leave the kitchen and look around for the avenger’s possible delivery, but none of them fit the guy. Most of the men were keeping an eye on the people they were chatting with, and there were none waiting on the other side of the bar for the order.

- Tam? - My best friend turns around and as soon as I show her the package, she is simply pointing to the door with a “happy birthday” smile.

What the hell is wrong with her?

The sound of the door bell makes me look and as I put the green package on the table, I feel my cheeks start to heat up. The object of my deepest desires was there.

Captain America was at the bakery looking for a damn cake for his friend.

Oh my god … I think as I try to remove my blue apron, which is full of traces of cream of white and red colors, but I feel that the knot in my back becomes impossible to remove and I give up with a sigh.

“Ok, Charm. You have to calm down. He is the man you dreamed of the last few months, so you must behave like a decent woman since he will not respond as he usually does in your dreams”

- This is mine? - I lift my head quickly as Sam sees me with a smile and nodded at my apron - Nice color combination. I like it.

God save me from that. Why do I feel like the world is reeling?

- Sure, if you’re here to pick up Bucky’s order - I push the two small boxes towards him while he puts the cell phone in the pocket of the brown leather jacket he wears and walks a little closer to the bar. Hell, he was even more attractive in person, and I wished for a second that the image of him in his suit didn’t invade my thoughts.

That was my damn weakness.

People knew who he was but we all knew that he was too private a person to bother him on the street. That’s why they only came over to pat him on the shoulder or simply bowed their heads to him.

- Yes, I’m babysitting.

We both laugh and I bite my lip, hesitating whether to ask. It was customary for Bucky to spend his mornings here, and that he didn’t come is very strange to me.

- Is James okay?

Sam laughs as he leans calmly and confidently on the bar and lets out a heavy sigh, as if something about that question bothers him.

- I could say yes. He has the “cold” - I nod when I notice that he refers to the Covid, that disease that kept us on edge for so long and that today was considered just another cold - He asked me to come for his order on my way home.

- Shouldn’t you be isolated?

That question comes off my lips like I’m talking to Jenny, and I shrug at that rush of confidence.

- No, because contrary to what many people believe, I do not live with Buck.

I laugh as I feel Sam’s gaze on me and that attention makes me even more nervous, in a way that I find charming.

- It’s not exactly what he says. If you are that friend that he talks about so much, he says that you are not one of those who share things.

I hear him curse as he looks away and waves to those watching him at a table in the distance. The four young women who see him smile at him as if it were a trophy they want to get, something that I notice makes him feel uncomfortable.

- I’ll rip off that bastard’s arm.

I barely pushed me away with my hands up and he tries to get closer, perhaps preventing me from walking away if he could get past the bar. Which wouldn’t be difficult for him if he’s used to jumping off a building.

- That does not sound good at all - I approach while I extend my hand towards him, who takes it without even hesitating and a spark seems to jump in the place where our hands are joined - I’m Charm, by the way.

- Sam, Bucky’s “tight-fisted” partner.

- It’s hard not to recognize you.

I wanted to let go of his hand but he wouldn’t let me apart.

- So you know who I am?

That dazzling and shy smile made me realize that Sam Wilson is not one of the men to be good for popularity. Rather, they escape from it.

- It’s hard not to know when a man with a bionic arm comes to breakfast every day and talks proudly that his partner is Captain America - Sam drops his head while smiling and I feel my heart melt like butter in contact with fire. That gesture seemed to me the most adorable - Besides that you are the new obsession of everyone around here. Children love you.

- Just the kids? - The tone of his voice changes and I feel that he becomes softer when pronouncing those words. Was that some kind of flirtation? - You’ll make me feel really bad if it’s just childish fanaticism.

- That’s what the cakes I decorate every day say. Your admirers range from 2 years to 15 - I admit while trying not to laugh at the expression of feigned disappointment that appears on his face, I even maintain the image would be regarding my childish analysis and in a moment, I push my hand away for more than wish the warm contact - My nephew Katriel loves you. And he’s only 3.

He nods as he looks around.

- Buck always talks to me about this place, especially how well they treat him … And sometimes, he only talks about you sometimes - He approaches over the bar, as if he wants to keep that between us - I think he wants to have you alone for him.

I blush at his words and shake my head.

If you knew ….

- If that were the case, it would be a shame if he is getting his hopes up, since I’m interested in someone else.

I play with a small envelope of green tea in my hands and if I even doubt it, Sam takes it from me, he approaches to ask Tam for a pen, who sees him as if he were a delicious sweet as he hands it to her, and write something on it before putting it back in front of me.

- I would like to continue with this but I feel in my pocket Bucky’s insistence on why I’m not in his department with the blessed cake.

I looked down for a moment the paper and I see a number. His number.

- Actually, they’re cupcakes.

I see him roll his eyes as he smiles at me and indicates the tea bag between us as he takes the two boxes in one of his hands.

- In fact, tomorrow maybe I’ll try again these delicacies that have enchanted a certain white wolf.

- They will be waiting for you.

I respond by trying not to get my hopes up about seeing him here tomorrow and even try to appear indifferent, but something gives me away because he gives me a mischievous smile as he walks away from the bar.

- I’ll only come if you are here, darling.

- And why are you so sure I’ll be waiting for you?

- Instinct. I think there may be something important between us.

- That’s how they all begin … - He frowns at my words and I shrug as he remains still.

- I’m not like the others.

- I don’t know you.

- But you will.

- Whatever you say, Mr. Trust. Or should I say, Mr. America.

Tam, who is pouring coffee next to me, lets out a laugh and mutters under her breath “America’s Ass” that makes me choke on my own laugh.

Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Forgotten Family, case ???

(This is of course not a complete idea, and if I ever were to write it, it would probably be very different. This is just getting ideas out.)

Sherl: I ... I remember parts of my past!

Katrielle: OOOH??? This is exciting! What prompted this?

Sherl: well, I’ve had this strange feeling ever since you rescued your father...

Katrielle: ITS A MYSTERY TIED TO LAYTON???

(Clue one: Memories returned after Layton rescued)

Sherl: what’s important right now is that you listen very carefully! Got it?

Katrielle: Yeah, yeah, I will.

Sherl: It’s imperative that you listen! I remember being so worried when Hershel left, not knowing where he went or when he was coming back. I searched and searched, until the day when tragedy struck...

Katrielle: several years ago, while you were missing, I did a bit of my own snooping. I discovered notes from your journeys. An odd thing, however, was that some of the pages were missing.

Katrielle: Specifically, the last part where you would normally write the conclusion, more specifically, for your discovery of the Azran Legacy!

Katrielle: you hid your brother from me, and me from your brother!

Layton: you misunderstand, I thought he was dead-

Katrielle: Well he isn’t dead! He’s been turned into a dog!

Hershel Layton and LayClaire for the meme?

Thank you so much! I’m sorry, this is super long.

Hershel Layton: 

How I feel about this character: 

I love Layton! I really love how, even though he’s a Sherlock Holmes-style genius and puzzle-solver, he has none of the arrogance that usually shows up in those kinds of characters. He’s gentle and kind, and always tries his best to protect others. He just has this calming effect on everything around him, somehow. I love how he shows mercy and kindness even to people that are rude to him or who have hurt him. He’s a true gentleman and really inspires me to be like him, honestly.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: 

I don’t actively ship him with anyone, but I have some fondness for both Layclaire and Layemmy, the latter mostly because of my friends who like the ship!

My non-romantic OTP for this character: 

Layton and all of his students/children, but especially Clive, haha… the two of them are very similar in a lot of ways, and I really love the idea of Layton deciding to extend mercy to Clive and helping him become a better person, and along the way, learning that maybe Clive also has some ways to help him as well.

My unpopular opinion about this character: 

Um… I don’t think he’s an awful dad. I think he’s pretty good, if a bit distant. He’s always kind and thoughtful, and always concerned for Flora’s safety (and I assume Alfendi and Katrielle too; I still haven’t finished Kat’s game). Layton’s main problem is that he doesn’t plan on being a dad, but when someone is in need of a guardian or caretaker, he just can’t say no and jumps to helping them, perhaps without being emotionally prepared. His first instinct is to help. Like, for Flora, Layton just wanted to solve an inheritance dispute, but finds a girl at the top of the tower who has no parents, likes him, and wants to go to London with him. How could he say, “sorry, I’m not ready to be your dad?” and leave her behind? 

Layton just needs to learn when to ask for help himself; he has parents and friends that could be a support system if he asked them. I think that he really tries his best, though, and there’s no way that he would ever be abusive or neglectful. I think he really should listen to Flora, of course; I love Flora to bits and I think the way he leaves her behind is awful. I just think that people need to think about Layton’s past, and how he’s trying his best to fill a position that he may never have been ready to take. It’s a grey area, for sure.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:

I wish Layton got more closure regarding all of the horrible things that happened to him. His long-lost brother vanishes, seemingly dead. His biological dad goes to jail. His best friend returns from the dead, and they never even get a conversation together. Claire dies twice, and while they got a final goodbye, he learned that she was alive and watched her die again all in the space of one day. So many awful things happen to him so quickly, and he never gets the chance to process them.

Not romantic, but I love his interactions with Phoenix and Maya so much. I want to see them go on another adventure together (this time with Flora! And maybe Trucy or Pearl from AA).

a headcanon fact:

I’ve thought for a long time that Layton has PTSD, but ordinarily manages to hide it quite well. This is why he’s so reticent and doesn’t show his emotions very much, for fear of losing control, and also why he tries so hard to be helpful and understanding to others who share similar traumatic backgrounds to him (for example, why he takes Flora in, why he wants to help Clive, and why he so quickly takes Luke in as an apprentice). It started after Randall’s death, became worse after Claire’s first death, and was re-triggered for a third time after Claire’s second death and Luke’s move overseas. Layton was trying to help Clive after this by visiting him, but seeing the similarities between Clive’s PTSD and and his own, and seeing Flora and Clive’s concern for him, he was finally convinced to go and get help for his own trauma.

when I started shipping it if I did:

I’ve always shipped them casually because I enjoyed the story of PL3 so much.

my thoughts:

Layclaire is one of those complicated ones for me, where I like it in canon and don’t have a problem with it, but I don’t get butterflies thinking about them like I do for my OTPs. Recently though, I got a little more invested in shipping them after reading an old post about the parallels between Layclaire and Clive’s parents. (Of course it was Clive related… :P) Basically, I don’t ship them hard, but I appreciate how they work together in the story and how they make PL3’s story meaningful.

What makes me happy about them:

I love how Claire was such a wonderful new part of Layton’s life! After playing the prequels, we know how tumultuous his early life was, and after losing Randall and having to leave Stansbury, I imagine that Hershel felt pretty lost. Claire’s bright-eyed idealism and motivation might have inspired Hershel, and likewise, Hershel’s quieter nature might have been grounding to Claire.

What makes me sad about them:

Claire’s dead…

Also, I wish we got to know Claire a little better! Maybe if we got to play as young Hershel in a similar way to playing as teen!him in Miracle Mask? I’d like to get to know Claire in the same way that we got to know teen Randall; it might make her loss more meaningful. (I know Clark and Brenda didn’t exist yet, but it would’ve been fun to see them too during a flashback!)

things done in fanfic that annoys me:

I haven’t read a lot of Layclaire fanfics, honestly, so I’m not sure. I don’t know if this is the case in any, but I’d be a bit annoyed if Claire was the “manic pixie dream girl” to a depressed Layton and cured his depression, or something. At the same time, I do think she would have helped him a lot, so I might not be too picky with this. 

things I look for in fanfic:

I love fanfics that build on Claire’s character, or give her more of a backstory! Take Two, which is an AU in which Claire survives the explosion and she and Layton adopt Clive, gives Claire a lot of good backstory; she was an adopted child herself, for example. It also lets her grapple with feelings of guilt over having caused the explosion. People often let Layton feel darker emotions in fanfics, but I don’t often see Claire being allowed to have that range of emotion (although again, I admit that I haven’t read a lot of Layclaire-centric stories, just ones that have Layclaire as a part of a bigger plot). Basically, I’d like to see Claire grow as a character, and see her be allowed to feel darker emotions like Layton is allowed to.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: 

I’m not sure… Maybe Emmy for Layton? And Claire could become bros for life with Dimitri.

My happily ever after for them:

In a canon-like universe, I’m okay with Claire dying, to be honest (although I feel bad saying that) but I wish that she and Layton had a bit more time together. Maybe if they had a week where they could talk through everything they never got the chance to? In a universe where Claire never died, I’d like to see her as a part of Layton’s other adventures, becoming Flora’s mom and being a mentor to Luke.

They love to ramble to each other about their projects. They’ll make a pot of tea, and sit down, and talk through what they’re excited about and what they’re having troubles with, and give each other advice. Even though they’re in separate fields of study, they always give each other new ideas. I think that they might have been planning an interdisciplinary project together on Azran technology before the explosion.

For celebrate the release of the third game on mobile of the Professor Layton , I've decided to make some curiosity-hyphotesis points post 😉....after all...is what a gentlelady does 😉...

• SPOILER ALERT! : in the anime , Layton and Luke should be most grown up (Layton 60 years old,Luke 36 years old ) but at cause/thank to the cryogenic time machine-relic stones , both are stop to 49 years old (the age of the prof in ALL the games isn't totally confirmed but thank to the 4th game,the last spectre, Emmy say that Layton,become a prof.at the age of 27 years old) and 25 years old ;

•For the deep friendship fond that Clark has with Layton,much probably Layton is the godfather-stepuncle of Luke. A couple of hints of those points is that Layton see Luke also when was a newborn,if this aren't hints...I don't know what are then 😆.. ;

•Level-5 say that the outfit of Layton is black but in ALL the merchandising, is dark brown or brown...not dark..I think that someone to the Level-5 has make some confusing palette 😂 ;

•Luke;Katrielle and Hernest are the ONLY CHARACTERS (for the moment)that can understand animals language,or for the moment Katrielle and Hernest , only Sherl. This could be a hint on how is born this power : in the Charlie: all the dog going to Heaven movies,we discover that the people that can understand animals language,are the people that suffer very much in life. Much probably Clark during his childhood suffer much and when is grown up this power pass to Luke , for Kat and Hernest is the dissapear or death of someone of rilevant. We don't know if for the moment is only Sherl..could be also that Sherl was inside the laboratory where the bunny in the third game escape, or simple Sherl is a reference to Scooby-Doo origin talk. I mean that Sherl could be a discendent of a Annuki (Annunaki if I remember well) , a ancient Maya or near , gods that fuse himself with the animals for help the humans,and their direct discendents can obtain the power of talk or be understandable to the humans. Return of Clark and Luke power , could be that also for them there is something of magic-mysthyc...both could had a "angel power " I mean , generally only the angels can talk with the animals or someone pure heart but so pure heart of be considered " a angel heart " and then they obtain this power ;

• We know that Layton is very riserved with his feelings..but this could be happening after three trauma loss : Randall,his brother and Claire. After this loss, him could be become very shy for dodge other suffering but this wouldn't mean that him can't love the people near to him,has close his feelings for this reasons,at least for me ;

•In added at the fifth point, the ONLY PERSON that has saved the prof.at exit from his "privacy feelings ", is LUKE. Is true that the prof.cry for the first time with the separation from his brother when was very little..but this , togheter at the second and third loss, is the "begin". Luke with his transfer with the family , has finally do cry Layton. Only the most important people can make Layton cry,only the people that him really really care. Luke in someway has "saved the prof." From the suffering only other suffering can open him, is hurt and seem sad..but seem true. True , Claire with his re-death has a little open this "door" ,but only the nearest person to him , the only that has make quickly a deep fond with him..in less words , the only that after much time of inner suffering , where slowly Layton was again a open heart , could save him...and this person is Luke(after also Katrielle). For Layton , Luke is literally a stepson,the phrase " my boy" is an demonstration of fatherly-love. A person don't use this words with a light touch,specially a respectable (very shy)gentleman as Layton ;

at this point everyone knows the dragon age devs insist on the game having grey morality choices, but to be frank, origins set that whole shtick up to fail as soon as the game was released. don’t get me wrong, origins is my favourite game in the entire world, but hear me out:

consider the fact that at the landsmeet, you get the option to recruit loghain. there’s a lotta pros to recruiting him, in theory: you get a seasoned, hardened general in the wardens’ ranks who is practical, no-bullshit, he’s got really decent stats (and imo i prefer him to alistair stats-wise? he seems to be ‘tankier’, but i could be levelling Al wrong) for when you get him, and he offers insight into his actions and he’s a neat character to have around (ok, i’m biased because he’s my favourite-- but you know). there’s also a lotta pros and cons to NOT recruiting him.

BUT, consider how the game frames him from the get-go and how most of the content within The Stolen Throne is never, ever mentioned in game (though there are hints to the Stolen Throne in the game-- like Katriel’s Grasp, and how it says “A bard by the name of Katriel to assassinate the surviving Prince Maric. She did not, of course, succeed, but that's another story”). 

there is next to no reason presented in game for you to recruit loghain, no loghain supporters that aren’t framed as evil and bad (see: the loghain supporters at lothering, the loghain supporters at orzammar). NONE of the companions mention him in a positive light, ever, and there’s certainly rarely NPCs that do so. it is ALL cons presented to you.

this is an issue. it leaves the impression of loghain as a black-and-white choice-- you lose a friend if you choose loghain (but not before he yells at you about how awful you are for it!), people are constantly grousing at you for it, and there’s NO choice to convince them otherwise. that is The Bad Choice, and you Should Feel Bad for doing it. 

hell, you don’t even get loghain for very long once you DO recruit him-- you basically get him for the final battle and some DLC and that’s it. womp. game over. you only get to see him again in Awakenings, briefly, and he tells you he’s fucking off to orlais because apparently the devs think putting an extremely traumatized man in a situation where he could potentially be reminded of that trauma constantly is A Good idea. you also see him in inquisition, BUT he’s framed in an entirely different light.......... and that’s another story.

it’s clear that this “grey morality” choice left an impression on the fandom, too-- it’s “what’s the point? you get him for .5 minutes” and “what’s the point? you lose fandom-beloved alistair, so fuck that”. it’s also lack of context for actions, lack of explaining things like how howe (lmao, sorry) was probably using his word (during a ptsd/paranoia episode, mind you) to do bad shit, like the slavery of the alienage eves (loghain mac tir, who created and lead the Night Elves and opposed the orlesian invasion, selling elves willingly? i mean, that’s just a theory of mine, but it’s super bizarre and ooc, imo). it’s not half-half in the fandom, and it never will be.

and, frankly, it would have been an easy fix: making eamon a non-requirement would lead to pathways to at least consider loghain more, and it’d be more like their games of old-- neverwinter nights, etc, in terms of truly branching choices. it would have been an excellent pathway to learn more about loghain, though it probably would’ve made the game longer, and it would’ve removed the need to have the Stolen Throne entirely (though, womp, it’s EA, what can you do?). 

but this means that from the get-go, dragon age was never really a grey-morality story; considering this, how were choices like mages vs templars or elves vs humans or creators vs the maker/andraste ever meant to be presented as “ambiguous” in the first place?

Hell yeah I can!!!So you have the basic incredibles plotline, but with Layton as Mr. Incredible, Claire as Elastigirl, and then Flora, Luke, and Alfendi are the kids. Katrielle has not yet been conceived because... reasons. They all have the same powers as in the movie bc a) I’m lazy and b) BUFF DADDY LAYTON IS REAL YOU ALL JUST DONT WANT TO ADMIT IT anywayOut of the blue one day, Layton gets a call from some guy named Desmond. Desmond invites him to a private, beautiful island to do some more hero work. Layton is motivated not by his pride or desperation to be famous again, but by his intention to help people as much as he possibly can. (Helping people gets him in a lot of trouble sometimes, though). Layton is introduced to Jean Descole, who in turn introduces him to the numerous robots that will take over earth if he doesn’t defeat them. Layton defeats all of them, but Descole just keeps churning out new robots. Eventually, Layton discovers Descole’s secret lair and his plot to get rid of all superheroes. Yikes! Also, have you ever seen Desmond and Descole in the same room? No, because Desmond is just Descole in a silver wig. In the meantime, Claire is suspicious of her husband’s new job. It brings in a lot more money than his old one- but what exactly is he doing now? She goes to her old friend, Dimitri, who insists upon designing new super suits for her whole family. Flora is a bit worried by her parents. Sure, the new suit lets her use her invisibility powers better, but is it worth her dad being gone all the time?Luke is just thrilled. He tells Flora that nothing fishy is going on. How could anything fishy be happening when this new suit lets him run even faster? They look up and ElastiClaire is gone!!!“Where did Mom go?” Luke says in a bewildered fashion. “More importantly, WHERE IS ALFENDI??” Flora shouts. She likes shouting. Claire has gone to Descole’s island after following Layton to work. She feels bad for snooping, but this is important. And the kids have a babysitter, right? (Spoiler: she forgot the babysitter). Desmond captures both Claire and Layton after he finds out they know his plan. Of course this means they have to die now. But wait! Flora has made it to the island by way of that old flying contraption Dad had in the garage. Along for the ride is Luke, who called Emmy to come babysit Alfendi. Unfortunately, Emmy just sits watching martial arts tutorials with Alfendi. He knows how to fight fairly well by the age of five. Anyway, Flora and Luke rescue their parents in a puzzle fight of epic proportions. They defeat Descole, but then he reveals that he’s Layton’s long lost brother!! So they get their family back and a new uncle, how cool. After the fact, Des designs new gadgets for his niece and nephews a lot. So after the evil has been defeated, superheroes are accepted in society again. They solve mysteries and defeat evil as a family. Flora asks out her crush, Luke makes fun of her, and Alfendi is oddly capable of taking care of himself. Up next: incredibles 2!!! Anyway this was kind of just a rehash of the incredibles plot but I love his au anyway. Who doesn’t love crime-fighting, puzzle solving power families? Thanks for the ask!

The Stolen Throne in 15 minutes

LOGHAIN, a Level 56 Warrior, several miles away: I have a really bad feeling about this shit.

MARIC: HELP! HELP! *cracks the skull of random attacker * HELP! HELP!

LOGHAIN: Oh for fuck's sake. Come along, then.

LOGHAIN’S DAD: Like all good leaders of men in the DAO canon, I am somewhat reluctant to lead. Yet I do. I’m also quite classy if I may say so myself.

MARIC: Agreed! I dub thee, ser Loghain's Dad to a knight in my service. Now, go off and die protecting me!

LOGHAIN: What the hell?

LOGHAIN’S DAD: Son, in a very foreshadowing moment I will now ask you to put your emotions and personal desires aside and do as you must. Sure, it will seem really fucking grim but so will the rest of your life. Now off you go and protect the Prince with your life.

ROWAN: You are the only one who can be allowed to see me weak. Which is quite touching.
