A hospital administrator in Gaza has refused Israeli orders to evacuate, calling such a move medically “impossible” as he begged the international community to pressure Israel to dial back.
“I am refusing this because I cannot discharge our patients,” Dr Ahmed Mhanna, who manages two Al-Awda Hospital branches, said.
He explained too many patients in his care are suffering from gunshot and shrapnel wounds and cannot be moved.
In a video diary, Mhanna appealed to world political forces to persuade Israel to dial back on rockets being launched in Gaza.
“I'm asking all members, international societies, and Red Cross and WHO, and in law societies international to (put) pressure on the Israeli government to stop these procedures against the civilians and to stop that attack,” he said.
“Stop the war. Stop the bombs being against our civilians.”

There is already a large body of academic research suggesting mainstream Western news media sympathise with Israel and largely ignore or downplay its human rights violations against Palestinians.
Over the first 10-days of the current crisis, Western media behaved as anticipated. Outlets privileged Israeli point of views, suppressed Palestinian voices, and repeatedly talked of “Israeli self-defence” and “Palestinian aggression”.
In the days before the hospital bombing, BBC News ran multiple reports about alleged Hamas tunnels under public buildings, including schools and hospitals. It doesn’t need much explaining how this kind of uncritical repeating of Israeli propaganda by Western media organisations helps Israel perform its deceptive post-atrocity-routine effectively.
When the dust settles, independent investigations will inevitably show that Israel, which had already been bombing across Gaza’s residential buildings, mosques, banks, and universities, and had already killed thousands of Gaza Palestinians, including 750 children, is responsible for bombing al-Ahli Hospital.

7 April 2024
Firefighter and first responder Abdullah Al-Majdalawi documents the unthinkable conditions inside Al-Ahly Baptist Hospital.
Al-Ahly was bombed by the occupation early in the genocide, killing some 500 displaced people, patients, and medical staff. The surviving staff and volunteers were determined to keep it operational, and continued treating patients anyway. They were repeatedly besieged and invaded, staff and displaced people were kidnapped and tortured, they were forcibly evacuated, and the facility continued to be shelled, bombed, and attacked by snipers. Despite all of this, people always returned to resume operations.
Al-Ahly is now one of only two hospitals in north Gaza capable of any kind of medical treatment, albeit extremely limited in scope. After the siege and destruction of Al-Shifa Hospital, surviving patients were sent to Al-Ahly. Now, all of the new injuries that would have gone to Al-Shifa are going to Al-Ahly.
This has resulted in Al-Ahly being stretched far beyond its capacity, filled wall-to-wall with sick, injured, and dying patients. There are no beds, no stretchers, no free rooms, no aesthetics, few machines, and minimal supplies. People are being treated for life-threatening injuries on the floor because there is nowhere else to care for them. The situation is past catastrophic and beyond even the realm of nightmares. And yet staff and volunteers remain, treating and comforting patients and their families with no respite in over 6 months.
WARNING: Extremely graphic and disturbing footage! Viewer discretion strongly advised!

Of course the first time I post anything in a while it is for a commission I received from none other than the awesome Mafuriah aka @dyalavellan (who is also on Instragram and twitter!). I highly, hiiiighly recommend working with her as she always creates stellar artwork and is a pleasure to work with <3
The tarot I chose to go with this time is for the Ace of Swords. Perhaps an odd choice for a couple’s piece, and at the very least interesting one anyway, especially considering it is outside the major arcana and the Swords suit is known to that of the mind and mental aspects and how the balance of intellect versus power come into play.
This card, here shown in the reverse, depicts Ahlis in a moment of unsure and clouded judgment; the offered hand by Aymeric proclaims an offer of friendship--or at the very least a measure of welcome as an ally. Yet she hesitates and remains inactive, the sword within her grasp yet not so. Ahlis must make a difficult, and truthful, choice.
Some of my favorite moments in time for me between Ahlis and Aymeric are the tenuous and unsteady ones: is there trust, and can it grow? Is there a future in this, or will the past only repeat itself? Will this entire relationship prove to be fruitful, or not end in happiness?

Whenever I meet an Egyptian man from Cairo I ask them what soccer team they support (Ahli or Zamalek), then I start an argument with them about how the other team is better. I don’t even know anything about the teams.
I even did it to a guy on one of those shady chat sites. He wanted me to send nudes but as soon as I insulted his team he was only interested in debating about the teams.
I know it’s probably a flaw in my character but it’s so funny how angry they get and how fast.
god forbid you ever meet my dad, he would pop several blood vessels

Israel’s allies can turn a blind eye to its genocide of Palestine—as long as some of the war crimes are denied. The settler state received unequivocal backing from the vast majority of Western leaders whilst it committed war crimes under the Geneva Convention, including cutting off electricity, water and food—everything the EU decried as war crimes when committed by Russia. On Tuesday night, a spokesperson for the Israeli government confirmed an Israeli airstrike hit the Al Ahli hospital in Gaza, killing 500 sick, wounded and refugees. But hours later, the statement was retracted and Israel began sowing doubt about the origins of the strike, pointing the finger at Palestinian Jihadis. Hamas denied the claim. Israel released footage showing the “misfiring rocket” but Twitter users pointed out the videos either had the wrong time stamp, or were clips from 2022. But by Thursday morning, Western journalists were running with the story that both sides were blaming the other—despite the fact that Israel had called the hospital and ordered it to evacuate because of planned strikes. Marc Owen Jones, Associate Professor at HBKU researching disinformation and digital authoritarianism joins me to explain how Israel weaponises doubt to allow its Western allies enough plausible deniability to continue staunchly supporting the regime, the West’s closest stronghold to the largest oil reserves in the world. Marc also explains the relationship between Israeli propaganda and Western media, revealing why so much coverage of what campaigners are calling a genocide against Palestinians only portrays Israel as the victim.
