please, this is adorable! i think i have a small blurb on here somewhere that has a really small scene where she goes and sits on his lap during a filming session...

that's what her friends called her whenever they were on a stream on discord during a gaming session. even though she'd been streaming and gaming for a few months now, and knew the ropes on when the best time was to stream for her followers and what games they would enjoy seeing her play, the nickname stuck.

before she met arthur, she worked a normal 9-5 job in a local shop that was a short walk away from her london flat, getting up early in the mornings with a routine planned out for her entire day. but the more and more she was seen in arthur's videos and the more she was featured in his vlogs and the more she appeared on their friends' youtube channels, the more people wanted to see her doing her own thing.

so she took up streaming, where she held gaming nights with the two arthur's and george and chris and where she held nights where she would just waffle about her life to the camera, just to get a feel for it. to see whether she enjoyed it. to see whether it took off or whether it wasn't worth the hassle in changing to her career. coming home after a busy day at work, having dinner, before she disappeared to sit in front of her computer for a couple of hours.

george let the nickname slip.

during a game of fortnite because it was a game highly requested by her followers to play in a squad match with her friends - to the point where she would even venture out of her circle and play with some of her followers who requested a chance to be in her team. and she was terrible at it; she claimed any form of shooting game or games that required skill were never her forte and that she was simply doing it for the entertainment factor as people loved to see them all in a joking manner with banter being thrown around.

and it stuck.

she couldn't shake it off, months later. not that she minded, at all. she found it quite endearing and sweet how she was loved and welcomed into arthur's circle with wide-open arms by his best friends, like she'd always been a part of something special, as if she'd known them her whole life. because the last thing she ever wanted was to be placed as an outsider by his friends, know as just 'arthur's girlfriend' who led her own life and never involved herself as a part of their group or was never included in their plans.

they loved her, and respected her, and that was all that mattered.

and they'd been her biggest supporters from the moment she chose to make streaming and content creation her new career path. they were with her the moment she quit her job, they helped her to create her own gaming setup in her spare room, and they gave her tips and pointers on making videos and editing, giving her as much help as they possibly could to kickstart her new start. and she was incredibly thankful for all of them.

there was something she loved about making money off of having fun with her friends, her boyfriend and her followers. and, as time passed, she felt lucky to have been given the platform she had been given and never took it for granted.

"i'm going to save the last two episodes of this story for the stream tomorrow," yn says to the camera propped up before her, suddenly feeling the hefty weight of the headphones sitting upon her head and she could feel her ears getting hot from the padding, "i think we did good tonight, we completed almost all of it in two hours."

she watched arthur play a couple of episodes of lego star wars on a stream, not too long before, and she found something therapeutic about re-completing a game that she had already played before. how she used to love playing it when she was younger and that it was something nostalgic for her... so she'd asked him to show her how to stream herself playing it which he had no issue with doing.

"i can smell dinner, i think arthur's cooked for me," yn grins at her screen's monitor, her belly rumbling from the wafting scent of some form of seasoned meat in the air, "he's a cutie. in case you haven't realised, this isn't my usual setup."

she took a look behind her and, if people were clever enough, they'd see arthur's setup just behind her in his own spare room.

"arthur created a little space for me in his office so we can game and film videos together sometimes," she grins widely, reading all of the sweet comments that came through on the screen; some vibing with her and how cute arthur could be to others sending in games for them to play together, "he said he had a surprise for me when i came over tonight and he showed me this. i could have cried on the spot."

her eyes glazed over the comments, flowing in constantly, and it was hard for her to keep track of what people were saying.

"maybe we'll do a little setup tour for my youtube," she suggests and shrugs at the camera with a nonchalant grin on her lips, "maybe it'll be with you guys in the next couple of days. maybe not. you'll just have to wait and see."

she closed the game from her monitor and let a blank screen fill the space, her own face appearing in the bottom corner as she prepared to close down the stream for the night.

"same time tomorrow, troops. i'll see you then. love to you all," she blew a kiss to the camera and waved, "bye!"

she made sure everything was closed down before she stood to her feet, sliding her headphones off of her head and hanging them up on their little stand beside her screen, stretching out her back from the aches and the cricks that were forming from her hunched position over the last couple of hours. she tucked her chair back underneath her desk and grabbed her water bottle before leaving the room, into the open space of his living room, which was filled with the smells of something delicious.

she noticed the table was set with plates and cutlery before she saw him standing at his kitchen island, dishing everything into bowls so they could help themselves to however much they fancied that night, pan in his hand as he scooped beef strips into a ceramic bowl.

"good stream?"

"the best," yn grins widely as she took her seat at the table, "we hit 2k viewers about an hour ago."

"oh, that's brilliant," arthur gasps proudly and he supports the most genuine smile on his lips, looking at her as she grins proudly, "i told you you'd get there eventually."

"they loved the setup, too," she smiles, watching as he set the pan down in the sink before he picked up the plate of wraps and the bowl of beef strips, leaving behind the salad on the bar that he was going to go back and pick up once he set his full hands down on the table, "i might have to stream here more often now."

"that was the plan," he admits, setting the bowl and the plate down before he went back to the breakfast, not without passing her by and pressing a kiss to the top of her head, "i'm really proud of you."

"couldn't have done it without you," she says.

he sits down at the table beside her, both of them in a position to see the sun setting over london, painting the surface of the thames with oranges and pinks, the last of the sun shimmering on the windows of the buildings opposite.

"i've got a video to film tonight, do you fancy being a part of it? could do a watch-along together," he suggests, filling up a wrap with beef and some salad, wrapping it all up with a fajita-style fold before he took a hearty bite from the top, "people have been asking for you to make another appearance."

"only if you're fine with that," she says, following his actions as she filled her own wrap up, "what are you watching?"

"it's just a short video from reddit about nature and animals," he says and she laughs softly, "what?"

"nothing, i just love your little fascination with the animal kingdom," she admits and he blushes, looking down at his plate, "it's cute. i find it fascinating when you talk about anything like that. all the facts you tell me. it's like having my own walking, talking encyclopaedia."

and when it comes to filming, she finds comfort in sitting closer to him as they watch the reddit videos together. she's wrapped in one of his throw blankets, in her comfiest clothes (which was a tee from his wardrobe and a pair of black cycling shorts peeking out from the bottom), settled on his lap with his arm wrapped around her waist to keep her steady on his thighs.

"an orca slapping a dolphin straight out the sea," he reads from the screen and, as the two of them watch nature take its course, they're both completely enamoured by the scene before them, "oh, jeez. the amount of air that thing gets is insane."

"they're the bullies of the ocean," yn adds and she remembers arthur saying something like that previously, when they'd been cuddled up in bed with a documentary about the ocean playing as they wound down for the night, "i bet that was an incredible thing to witness happen though. being that close to a dolphin seems amazing but to be that close to an orca, too? it's a bonus, a two in one special."

"have you ever seen a dolphin?"

she shakes her head and cranes her head to look at him, "never. it's on my bucket list though. that and to see the whales off the coast of gibraltar."

"maybe we'll take a trip," he says, "one day. i think i'd love to see that, too."

she leans back a little more comfortably on his lap, her back resting against his front as she brings her knees to her chest, tightening the blanket around her body to keep her from being too exposed to the camera and to keep her a little warmer, his arm helping to bring her closer to him.

"that was probably his killer instincts coming out though," yn explains and arthur cocks an eyebrow, confused, at her, "what?"

"they don't eat dolphins?"

"they do," she nods and he's genuinely surprised by her little bit of knowledge on orca's and their food chain, "they don't just eat seals and penguins, arthur. they eat dolphins and other sea creatures, too."

"look at you, eh?" he teases softly and, in that moment, they forget the camera is rolling and that they're actually filming a video for his second channel, "you're just as nerdy as me when it comes to the animal kingdom. my interests are rubbing off on you."

"i have my surprises," she grins and brings a hand up to poke a finger into his nose, "i know it might not seem like it sometimes but i am interested in your interests, silly." xx

One thing I forgot to mention my cousin doing (well, actually my cousin's section is just kinda old because it's from when she last came over, but she's back to help me again, yay!) is making memes like this. I'm putting these 2 in the same category just because of the example image above. While my cousin has recently started doing edits, Heartz is the only 1 of the 2 to make anything Undertale related. While the Undertale stuff comes once every blue moon it seems, that doesn't make it any less enjoyable.

You shake your head, unlocking your phone to show him the recent cocktail you and Husk invented, "Thats about it other than Charlie getting that meeting with Adam I told you about last week..." you trail off, breath hitching as you see footsteps from underneath the door

How long do videos usually take, when it comes to filming and editing? Say, if you put out a 1 min tutorial on something, what would be the (gods I hate to use corporate language) turnaround time for it?

Also, what sort of hardware do you use for filming, and software for editing? I'm always curious about the backstage stuff of content creators.

This is a great question! It varies a lot depending on the video, but in general for one of my 'fantasy tropes' videos, the breakdown is something like this:

- filming: ~2 hours (including setup, warmup, multiple takes, fluffing lines, waiting for the neighbour's dog to stop barking, etc.)

- editing: ~1-2 hours (at the end of filming I usually have around 25-30min footage. The first run of editing cuts the outtakes and fluff and takes it to around 5 minutes. Then there's another run or two to cut that down to around 2 minutes.)

I usually make 3 edits:

one clean without captions that I upload to tiktok so that I can use in-app captions, but I also keep a copy of this in case I need it later

one with built-in captions and text that I upload to instagram and here, so you get the captions without a tiktok watermark (unless I want to use sound from tiktok)

One for youtube because their shorts are max 1 minute so I have to cut a load of content and re-edit the captions. (I could post long form but their long stuff is landscape so I'd have to film everything twice!)

- Finally posting: ~30 minutes (titles, formatting, tags, thumbnails, keeping the app open until the upload finishes before starting the next one, etc.)

So in general it's about 4-5 hours for a final video that's around 2 minutes long. Sillier/ meme-ier stuff is more like 2 hours

- but the biggest variable is research/ training. For some videos I already have the information and skill and I just need to check some things, but for some I need to spend time looking up facts, and digging into history, and for others I then need to go away and practice a new skill, which is all hobby stuff that I love doing, but it's still time spent out of a limited budget!

(Which is why I'm starting to look at some more commercial options, patreon, agencies, etc. Because I'm trying to fit this on top of a day job, part time pole teaching, and family commitments, and some weeks it's... not easy)

I do almost all my filming on my phone (iphone... 11? Pro?- quite recent, bought sdcond hand), with one of those grippy arm tripod things, and a bluetooth microphone. Editing is done in an app called capcut, and finished off in various in-app editors for the social media apps.

hmmm so shoyo decides to try tiktok out because of all the hype the jnt receives during the olympics. they're the monster generation after all — atsumu and suna have been gaining quite a lot of traction on their pages, and they ask shoyo to cameo in their videos often, by popular demand. so he decides to give it a go!

of course, as soon as shoyo launches his tiktok and posts a video (just a short one of him sitting on the locker room bench at practice, introducing himself while the rest of the jnt are walking around and chatting in the background) he blows up instantly. @n1njashoyo gains over 30k followers within a day, and his first video gets a 100k likes in a couple of days. his account becomes big news everywhere.

he's one of the most popular members of the team globally, so it makes sense. he's known as the cutest player on the jnt, and in brazil/argentina he's so famous as “ninja shoyo”. people start tagging him in edits and fancams, and he sometimes duets them to praise and thank them.

lots of “hinata senshu notice me please 🥺” comments on his videos, and he replies to some of them with “hi !! 👋🏻” because he's just the cutest ever fr <33 he also responds to most japanese commenters and people that comment in portuguese because he understands them better.

his posts are mostly workout routine videos, different kinds of warm-up/cool-down stretches, high protein meal plan discussions—and he also films (and ocassionally goes live during) his evening runs and practise sessions. he has a series of form correction videos on volleyball, and a series of videos on resistance workouts that target specific muscles.

and every time he posts a clip where he's shirtless, doing curls or just anything with the weights, the videos are so clean and zoom in on his muscles so nicely<3 people start commenting things like “hinata sen do you have a camera man?” and he replies to one of them like “yes i do! :)” and they start telling him “senshu i think your cameraman has a crush on you...” little do they know v_v.

he doesn't respond to those comments, and the rumours about him having a lover away from public eye resurface. some viewers from brazil (where he lives at, since he's a player for ASAS) say that they “know something the others dont” etc etc.

and it builds up until about six months after shoyo launches his tiktok, one night he posts a thirst trap. low exposure filter, dim blue lighting, he's shirtless and standing infront of the mirror in just a pair of sweats — and behind him, someone is wrapping their arms around his waist. the video ends as soon as you fully lock your arms around his waist, and it drives his fans crazy.

the fangirls start posting about how their dream husband just announced that they're no longer single, comments like “gf reveal???” “hinata sen WHO IS THAT” “mr. hinata shoyo EXPLAIN” fill nearly all his recent videos.

after that little stunt, he disappears from social media for a bit. he had posted the thirst trap right on the brink of off season, and he stops posting on any of his socials for a couple of months.

then one day he makes a sudden, quick comeback — he drops a long video of himself and you, his beautiful partner, relaxing at a beach resort and enjoying a sunset dinner together at the beach. he clinks his glass of cherry wine with yours, takes a sip and grins at you all dopey before leaning in to give you a kiss. there are matching golden bands on both your ring fingers.

and the caption? “5 stars ⭐ food is good !! :)”

omg inspiration for film is a greaaatttt question!!! i kinda want to explore that in main storyline now!!! i think when she was younger, she was a bit more of a quiet kid and was always the english teachers’ fave student bc she was really emotionally intelligent n had great vocabulary and in general a great eye for art n literature, so that academic praise kinda got her into writing stories n watching films, she studied a lot of old hollywood classics n from there she became really interested in film as a whole. i think it became a form of expression for her, since she had kind of a whacky childhood (will uncover more of this in later chaps) i like to think before she applied to college, she wanted to be an english major n become an english teacher but she knew deep down that film was what she really wanted to do and even though her family was reluctant, she went ahead n applied as a film major anyway (btw utokyo is hard to get into for film bc they only have a few spots for their program which is one of the best in the nation so i think she did well for herself :) it’s also why she wants to get into utokyo’s film masters specifically!!)

I’ve just finished Oh My Assistant, and I’m trying to process what went wrong with this one. They had to recast just before finishing it, right? I was surprised it was getting adapted at all given the content of the manwha, and expected a tamer version, but what they did with it makes so little sense. Not only the stilted chemistry and dead fish kisses between the leads, but also that the show felt like it was more about the friend’s one-sided love than about the main couple in the end. The editing was just plain weird in some parts, and I couldn’t tell how much was because of the recasting and how much was because they had to alter the story to get around the stuff they didn’t want to focus on. Do you think this is mostly attributable to the production issues, or was a Korean studio taking this content on doomed from the start?

I don't know, it's possible the original version was great with better chemistry (although I doubt it because I think one of those awful fish kisses was with the previous lead).

But I think it was this heat level all along because Korea does NOT put heat on screen (not even in het). They may not have a formal modesty code in place but it sure feels like it sometime.

But this kind of odd hodgepodge unevenness is actually pretty typical of the early 2nd wave BL from Korea. And by that I mean 2020 and 2021 stuff. Mr Heart, Wish You, My Sweet Dear, even Where Your Eyes Linger. Even some of the early stuff from this year like Behind Cut or Ocean Likes Me was kind of, oh I don't know, random feeling? Lacking cohesion? Like they were leaving stuff out and expecting us to follow for some reason but none of us had read the source material and so we were just lost. And sometimes it was a lack of chemistry that lost us. Other times a weak script, stiff acting, or poor chemistry. 

Honestly watch Behind Cut and you will know EXACTLY what I am talking about. The chemsitry is actually decent but it stall has no foundation, no threads, or even a life-vest for viewers to hold on to.

I actually still liked it, but it's super flawed and typical KBL.

To me these feel a lot more like music videos or perfume ads than anything else. Like the story is a nice dressing but not the point? Cliffs notes BL. And sometimes the story is fine but there is no cohesion coming from chemistry or acting.

They are deconstructed awkward.

Early JBL felt like this back in the early 2000s.

I think it's a matter of KBL figuring out how to make the short form they are so enamored with, work for them. It needs really good chemistry and really focused story and really established point of view and a SHARP script. It has to be filmed and treated more like a movie. I think it's why I like it when they tackle high concept (Color Rush, Happy Ending, First Love) they aren't the best BLs as BLs, but they are held together for a KBL because concept is doing so much work as a narrative safety net. Does that make sense?

They do seem to be getting better and better though.

the ‘indie girl’ voice/accent in singing for instance....... literally, it’s everywhere. it’s honestly rare at this point to hear a female singer not using it and men do it too! It looks like it’s starting to die out, but I mean come on!! if you don’t like it, there has been no escape for year!!!!

i like educational content on youtube.... but i hate watching over-produced nonsense. if it’s a major studio producing the overproduced youtube show, i have to pretend its a tv show on discovery to watch, but if it’s just some loser in their bedroom shooting B ROLL FOOTAGE OF THEM HIGHLIGHTING to tell me about something they read, i’m just gonna fucking wanna punch someone. and i get it, some people like the over production and that’s their choice to do that with their content. they wanna take their youtube channel so seriously they shoot b roll of themselves highlighting a blank piece of paper okay... cool i’ll watch something else. except it’s all like that!!

and then there’s the tiktokificiation of video content. instagram and youtube pushing reels and shorts so much to try to compete with tiktok so that instagram did away with their standard video format and youtube has de-prioritized long form content. okay, so some people like tiktok. does that mean we all have to like tiktok??? are we given a choice???

even in long form content, creators are filming and editing so that their short form content can be taken directly from their long form content. and you can tell when the tiktok begins and ends because it’s stylized LIKE TIKTOK! 

it’s edited with the loud quick movements and over the top crisp sounds that heighten my anxiety but apparently sooth others... but it’s highly stylized! and it’s everywhere!

a youtuber i watch just said “I guess I’ll have to get into short form content this year cause that’s what everyone wants to see” NO! not everyone!

but that’s my point. it’s hard to not live in seething hatred of a media trend you hate if there’s no alternatives. if everyone jumps on the trend where do you go? how do you just let others like what they like and ignore it if it takes over everything and there’s nothing left?

Podcasting In Public: Best Practices

Are you looking for more ways to create content that are actually going to get someone’s attention? Do you not have your own video production/podcasting studio? That doesn’t mean you’re precluded from podcasting, of course. Quite the opposite, in fact. Podcasting in public, something I do often for our company that specializes in omnichannel digital marketing and SEO services in Los Angeles.

If you’ve read any of my blogs here before, then you know the value of video recording what it is you do in the course of a given day. That means taking some video of people working in the office, of course, but also for those in a restaurant, factory, or anywhere else.

For context, when I say “podcasting outside,” I mean “filming a video with you and another person speaking to each other in hopes of creating content.” Below are some of the tips that I wish I had known before my first outdoor podcast.

The first time you record yourself talking to someone outside, it’s natural to want to hold the phone in your hand. It’s how you would take a selfie, a video with friends/family/etc. However, when it comes to your content for your business, you’re better off with a stand. It doesn’t have to be an enormous mic stand, even a small one is fine. What matters is that it will be far more stable than your hand, even if you’re holding your phone by the stand.

Often, what we’ll do here at Website Depot is ask someone to come to a particularly well-illuminated spot, put the tripod (or “sticks”) down, and go from there. But, we also may put the camera on a small tripod and just wave it around. Either way, that gives you enough of a solid foundation (both figuratively and literally) to make content.

Have Something to Give Specifically, have something to give your consumer as well as your guest.

For example, recently, we attended the Glendora Recovery Foundation Expo. It was a wonderful time. They were a client of ours, and we were able to support them while also meeting so many great new businesses, too. I did a lot of outdoor podcasting there, talking to different vendors about their businesses, etc.

Remember: when you make content, any content, whether it’s podcasts, videos, blogs, even social media posts, they can’t just be promotional in nature. The person watching has to be able to get something out of them.

So, I always made sure that the ones I did at that expo were informative. They taught folks about a new business, why they may want to check it out, how it could provide them with solutions, etc.

Of course, I make it entertaining, too. How? I ask the questions of the business owner that I would like answers to. My reasoning here is: if I have the question, someone watching will, too.

By that same token, have something for your guests, too. Our CEO and founder, Danny Star, told me everyone who podcasted with me we’d edit it for them, put it up, make sure to link them, so that folks see what it is that they have to offer.

Whether someone’s going to be on your podcast or consume your podcast, make sure that you have something to give them that they’re going to want.

Perfect Has Left the Building These don’t have to be “perfect.” They don’t have to be anything close. Indeed, trying too hard to make them seem “perfect” can have the opposite effect: they can make them less authentic.

When you’re podcasting with someone, particularly in an outdoor setting, where things might be a bit impromptu, you’re not looking for “perfect.” What you are looking for: authenticity. You want the other person to say something real, to establish a real human connection.

Why? Because that’s what people respond to. All of the slick production in the world isn’t worth one real authentic moment. That’s especially true for short-form podcasting, for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and the like.

That doesn’t mean that the person you’re talking to has to break down crying, telling the most vulnerable aspects of their life, etc. What it does mean is that you want the other person to say something true and honest, something that matters to them.

The good news is here that this is much simpler and easier than it sounds. As a professional in your field/industry, you have expertise. You know what the common person doesn’t. Share that. Put that in everything you do. That way, you’re always providing something real, real value, in everything that you put into the world.

Something that I came to understand about the dark a long time ago was without the dark we would never know the light. There are so many other cliches about the subject. The point though is strong people level up when they learn that the darkness is a teacher and not just a place to suffer. The darkness is the place that you can find that the only light for light years is inside yourself. This track, In The Dark We Live (Thee Lite) by Aphrohead aka Felix Da Housecat has always inspired these thoughts within me. I have always wanted to create a project of the things I think about when I hear the song. And now I invite you to watch that project that I have finally made.

Café Disco + Space Disco (7/13/23)

I am going to draw out how the media portion of this will go. I also just got off the phone with Owen and we really went into this whole idea. It’s seeming as though it’ll pan out proper. 

As of now it is all about creating content and media. The word for it is media package. It is also going to be 2 media packages a month per concept, aka 2 Café Disco and 2 Space Disco media packages each month.

We will make the Instagram like a checkerboard where it goes from Space Disco black to Café Disco white. And each has that as its first slide then the next slides are the actual promotion material. Treat it like it’s big and it will be big. 

- For each interview and playlist we would need 3 pieces of short form content (Tik Tok style) to be used as marketing material on the Instagram story and Tik Tok paid promotion on Instagram. The Tik Tok for the Cafe Disco would be interviews best statement made, and the playlist would be a vibey video of doing cool things (maybe Chris doing cool things) with the song playing behind it from the playlist. 

Alright so I’m going to start with Café Disco thoughts -> 

Café Disco media will include: 

- An hour (ish) long playlist that gets publicized on Spotify. We will also put the playlist together as a mix and put it on YouTube accompanied with some vibey video of the beach or whatever aesthetic we are going for and put the mix on Soundcloud (if possible). 

- An hour (ish) long interview conducted by Zoe with someone in the self care industry or someone in general. This is a very open platform where pretty much anyone can be interviewed. It’s to share stories and give people insight on life. Hopefully garner a wave of self actualizing practices from the youth. We will edit the video with AI, put the video on YouTube and release the podcast version on Spotify and Soundcloud. 

Space Disco media will include:

- An hour (ish) long DJ set in a desirable location outside. A scenic location, but also create The Space Disco as in create the vibe with it. Get people to go picnic next to it for a video, make the scene you or visualize there that would look dope and then film with that scene. It doesn’t need to be a big thing, just vibey enough that people see it and feel as though they want to be apart of it. Hopefully get a drone there for the views and establishing shots. Put the DJ set with video on our YouTube and put the DJ set audio on Soundcloud.

- An hour long interview (still have to figure out who will do the interview) at the location of the DJ set before the DJ set. It will be two chairs in front of the table that has the DJ board on it with the bluetooth microphones. Three camera set up. Upload the video of the interview on YouTube, put the audio of the interview as a podcast on Soundcloud and Spotify. 

Media galore. Also being able to hit a lot of different markets with the content. Every part of the universe.

According to BI business review, they state there are still many ethical dilemmas with social media.  They talk about Tempo Dilemmas and how they occur.  “Exchanges in social media happen quickly, with an increased risk of making mistakes.” Another is Integrity Dilemmas which I think is especially important to address. They state that “Integrity Dilemmas are concerned with how easy or difficult it is to remain committed to personal values and moral standards when representing one’s organization online and being tempted or pressured to act against these.” Lastly, one I find especially important as well is Speech Dilemmas. They state that “Speech Dilemmas arise in connection with decisions about what it is acceptable to express when being active on a social media platform.” This is crucial because people sometimes think yes, they can post whatever they want, but it must be acceptable and truthful to get far.  

What trends are happening in the industry? 

There are a lot of trends happening in the social media industry that it truly is hard to keep up with them all. The most engaging trend on social media today is short-form videos. Short term videos are less than a minute long, capturing the attention of people across the world. According to Forbes advisor “as of April 2023, the fastest growing social media platform is BeReal.” BeReal was invented in 2020 and is a social media app that asks users to post “unfiltered” photos of themselves once a day.  Insider Magazine stated that “According to trending news website social media Today, downloads of the app have risen by 315% since the beginning of the year, now ranking fourth in the list of most downloaded social media apps, behind Instagram, Snapchat, and Pinterest. According to the app's description on Apple's App Store, BeReal encourages people to "show your friends who you really are, for once," by removing filters and opportunities to stage, over-think, or edit photos.”  

What are two current cases related to social media ethics? 

It states in our book Social Media for Strategic Communication written by Karen Freberg that “the film director James Gunn was removed from Guardians of the Galaxy when people saw racist comments on his Twitter account, although he was reinstated years later (Fleming, 2019). This is an example of the trend of “being canceled.” Another past case I found interesting from our book was “Kevin Hart, after it was discovered the actor tweeted inappropriate comments on Twitter regarding the LGTBQ+ community in 2011, had to step down from his hosting duties for the 2019 Oscars” (Campbell, 2020). But the most current cases I have come across are found on the internet.  The first one I found was “Unequal Access To Healthcare Technology - advancements and Covid-19 have changed the way we access healthcare, extending the physical and geographic boundaries of clinical capacity. However, our disjointed, siloed healthcare infrastructure makes it difficult to connect those in crisis with appropriate care. To rectify this, we need interoperable care collaboration and analytics solutions to deliver whole-person care.” - Rob Cohen, Appriss Health – Forbes magazine.   The second  

What concepts do you think are necessary to adhere to for your own person conduct online? 

There are many main concepts that I believe are necessary when promoting online.  It is necessary to respect the privacy of others and not share personal information that you would not want out there. The other would have to always use respectful language.  Lastly, you would have to be fact checking everything before sharing false information to the world.

What brands are utilizing proper social media ethical practices? 

According to the “The Creative Momentum” Airbnb and Netflix are two examples of good ethical social media marketing during the recent pandemic.  They make it known that Airbnb helps house COVID-19 responders and Netflix connects people with mental health experts. It is super important that these social media platforms or networks help others during tough times. Anything to do with helping your mental health is a win in my book. Everyone needs guidance in life. 

Are there any you feel practice strong ethical behavior on social media? 

I believe many like the ones I stated above such as Airbnb and Netflix, there are many more that are utilizing strong ethical behavior throughout their platform. 

What are some takeaways you can bring forth in your own practice? 

There are so many takeaways I can bring forth to my own practice when it comes to social media and networking. It is all about researching your audience and focusing on building my presence across all the different platforms through a positive manner.

Surely, you had hoped life would have taken a turn a long time ago with the pandemic.

Going outside without masks and crippling fear seemed like a dream, despite it all having been a reality for most of our lives. And while it was cliché, you truly don’t know what you have until it’s gone, like the boring routine you had complained about but now wished to get back.

And in your case, you also didn’t know that one app could have the ability to make things slightly easier during these times – TikTok.

Call it as you may, but quarantine TikTok content was a blessing and while you could swear by that, so could the fans and everyone else on the app since the moment you (and Harry) joined.

Having had tried so many pranks, challenges, and dances, you showed no signs of coming to an end of finding humor and pleasure from the app that Gen Z dominated with the wildest spirits.

With wild spirits, came wild content and for a generation that is openly expressive, there was also wholesome content; all of which Harry’s fans had tagged you to do and try with him.

‘Make your partner impersonate you’

For that one, Harry seemed to be the most excited to do, face beaming with a thousand spiraling ideas of things he could do and say.

The moment the video began, Harry was seen under your white covers, your pink velvet headband that everyone considered iconic rested on his head to show that he was acting like you, pretending to be sleepy as he spoke in a softer voice than his, “Don’t want to get up. More cuddles, please, baby.”

Then video then cut to Harry in the kitchen, you following behind him.

“I wonder where H is, need to pinch his bum.” He said in the same pitch he used for the previous shot.

The video then cut to Harry sitting on the couch beside you, holding his phone, “Baby, look at that!” He showed you his phone, showing you a video on TikTok, “Can we do it?”

‘Wipe your lips after your bf kisses you’

For this, you were picking Harry up from the studio.

Waiting in the parking lot, you had your phone placed behind the box of tissues.

To stay safe, you began recording a normal video for you to edit later as you waited for Harry to show.

When he did, Harry looked right and left as he searched for your car before his eyes fell on you and despite the mask on his face hiding half of it, you could tell that he smiled.

Getting inside the car, Harry took off his mask with a sigh, “First time to actually breathe since morning.” He said before leaning closer to you, pressing his lips against yours.

Doing your part, you looked ahead as you wiped your lips with the back of your hand, noticing Harry’s body stiff as he looked at you.

“Did you just-” He paused, “Did you wipe your lips?”

You hummed in confusion, acting as if you hadn’t heard him as you looked at him.

“Did you-Come here,” he frowned before pulling you close by your hoodie’s drawstrings, pressing his lips against yours in a kiss again.

Again, you wiped your lips.

“Why are you doing that?” He asked, not only confusion being evident in his tone, but hurt, too, “Why are you wiping my ki-Babe, I’m clean.”

“What?” You asked, looking at him as you smiled amusingly, trying to contain your laughter.

“Why are you wiping my kiss?” Harry almost whined, frowning.

“I’m sorry, it’s for TikTok,” you giggled, breaking into laughter when he groaned with a roll of his eyes before he grabbed your jaw, kissing your lips more aggressively.

“Never again.”

‘Let go of your partner’s hand and see what they do’

If there was one thing Harry liked to brag about, it was knowing how to multitask; drive with one hand, hold yours with the other.

It was a natural occurrence for the both of you to hold hands when he drove, no matter what.

Deciding to try that one trend, you took advantage of Harry being focused on the road to film your intertwined hands on your thigh for two seconds before taking your hand out of his.

Instantly, Harry glanced at you, seemingly unaware to you tilting your phone in the other hand to film his face, “Why’d you leave my hand?” He only mumbled before opening his palm towards you once again, smiling when he heard you softly giggle as you put your hand back in his, cooing when he raised it his lips, pressing a soft and gentle kiss on your knuckles, “This stays right here.”

‘Film yourself acting like your partner’

Since the TikTok of Harry acting you like received so many reactions, among them were fans asking you to act like Harry as well, and Harry was down to watch that happen.

Harry recorded you, first shot of video being a little shaky as he couldn’t contain his giggles while watching you in his flared pants, an oversized shirt, his cross pendant on your neck between the valley of your chest, rings on your fingers that showed chipped black polish on your nails.

Your hair was gathered up in a scrunchie, one leg over the other as you sat on a chair, “I’m Harry Styles,” you began, “And like, I never explain my music, I let people interpret it the way they want because music,” you sucked a breath, “Is art. It’s a form of expression that isn’t limited, it’s, like, very open. Like the ocean.” You said slowly, mimicking Harry’s accent and smiling at the end when Harry burst out laughing.

For the next shot, you were in Harry’s white bathrobe, coming out of the bathroom before leaning on the doorframe and looking at Harry as he filmed you, “You sure you’re going to let me shower alone, love?”

Another shot was of you in Harry’s joggers and TPWK black hoodie, sprawled on your couch with the hood on, looking at Harry in disbelief as you still mimicked his accent and deep voice, “Excuse me? Why are you standing there and not cuddling me?”

In a grey tank top of his that you dramatically spilt water on to make it look like sweat and sweat shorts, you had Harry’s boxing gloves on your hands as you bumped your fists together, approaching Harry as he recorded, “God, I’m so sweaty, I have to go hug my girlfriend.”

For the final shot, you had Harry’s guitar in your arms, adjusting the strap as you stood, “I’m going to write a song that is so sexual and record it but I’m not going to release it because I’m a biiiiiitch.” You sang, dramatically strumming the guitar.

‘Pretend to take a mirror selfie with your partner then whisper something dirty in their ear’

You enjoyed the sun; the way it sneaked inside yours and Harry’s room from the sides of your curtains, lit up the room so warmly.

You enjoyed how the natural lighting looked for pictures.

You also enjoyed teasing the shit out of your boyfriend.

“Come here,” you made one grabby hand at Harry who entered the room, scratching his chin, “Let’s take a picture.”

Already used to random pictures being taken together, Harry reached you, standing in front of your vanity mirror as he wrapped his arms around you from behind, pressing a kiss against your temple.

Oblivious to it being a video, Harry leaned his chin on your shoulder, giving his famous smug look to the mirror as you held up your phone.

Turning your head, you made sure your voice was low so that your phone wouldn’t pick what you said;

“Want you to pound me.”

And instantly, Harry’s smug look faltered; his eyes widening, face brightening as he looked at you as you giggled before releasing a squeal once you felt him carry you and move you from where you stood, and to the bed as you laughed.

‘Tell your partner your ex wants to return a hoodie of yours’

Propping your phone up, you made sure it showed Harry as he cooked while you sat on the kitchen stool.

You folded your arms on the table, clearing your throat as you eyed Harry while he was chopping carrots.

“Hey, H,” Harry hummed, stealing a glance at you before looking back at his chore, “My ex called earlier,”

At this, Harry’s eyebrows furrowed before he looked up at you, putting down the knife and leaning his hands on the counter, his arms seeming to look bigger as he tensed, “What did he say?”

Trying not to laugh, you looked down, beginning to play with your fingers before giving him a shrug, “Just that he still has a hoodie of mine at his place,”

“Yeah?”

“And asked if I need it back.”

“What did you say?”

You gave him another shrug, “Said I’ll let him know.”

“Well, do you need it?” He asked, “Like really need it?”

“Yeah, it was my high school’s.”

“But baby, you have a lot of hoodies,” one hand of his reached to his lips, fingers grazing his bottom lip for a moment, “Can get it for you.”

“That’d be so awkward, H,” you sighed.

“Why? I’m your boyfriend.” Harry reasoned, “Maybe I can just come with you,” he said again before his face lit up, “I can have it customized instead. Just tell me how it looked like and-”

“Baby, no,” you chuckled, “It won’t be the same.”

“Come on, love,” he frowned, “He calls you 3 years later to tell you he still has your hoodie. You don’t think that’s suspicious? He knows you’re with m-Everyone knows we’re together.”

“Maybe he forgot,” you shrugged, “Actually, let me call and as-”

“Oh, fuck no!” Harry instantly rushed to you.

‘Aggressively tell your partner you love them’

Chilling on the couch, Harry was watching the TV, unaware of your phone that had been resting on the shelf to record you beforehand.

You stomped where Harry was, whose head snapped to you, his mouth chewing his banana bite slower as he eyed you carefully, taking in your angry state.

You threw your notebook on the couch beside him, “I love you!” You said aggressively, a frown on your face as you pointed at him, “I fucking love you!”

Harry took a moment, his face shifting to one of amusement before he raised his hands up – one holding his banana – before pointing at you, “I fucking love you, too!” He screamed.

“No, no,” you shook your head, still aggressively speaking, “I love you more!”

“I’m so fucking in love with you!” Harry said as aggressively, standing in an instant, towering over you as he pressed himself against you before wrapping one arm around you, “Why are we shouting, you weirdo?”

‘Stick your hand out and see what your partner does’

Harry was sat beside you on his laptop, music blasting from it as he emailed himself some tasks.

Recording him with one hand, you reached your arm out, opening your palm at him.

Harry looked down at your hand, a smile making its way to his face before he looked at you before placing his chin on your hand, closing his eyes as he gave you a dopey smile as you squished his cheeks while giggling, “Hiii.”

Okay so I just watched the newest film theory video about stranger things, (you can watch it here, but I would like to think you don't need to watch it to read this) and it gave me an idea for a short byler thingy :)

"W-what?! You can't be serious." Everyone was staring at him. At the boy with the bowl cut he'd grown too old for, the boy with the striped shirts. 

The boy in love with Michael Wheeler.

"El?" Will squeaked out, turning to the girl with tears in his eyes. But she wouldn't meet his eyes. Will frantically looked around, eyes darting to someone, anyone, who would look him in the eye.

"Mike?" 

Mike dropped his head down lower in an attempt to hide the tears forming.

He grabbed his bag, rushed out of the room, and started running. Out of Michael Wheeler's basement, out of sight. To where? Anywhere but here.

Just five minutes earlier, Will had been filled with hope. 

Dustin, Lucas, Mike, and Steve had come back with news. Big ones. They knew how to get rid of Vecna. 

Phylacteries

The thing keeping him immortal. As long as it was intact, Vecna would survive. So that's it, right? Simple? Just find his phylactery, destroy it, and then kill Vecna. 

How do you find the phylacteries? Well, Vecna's connected to the Mindflayer's hive mind. To add on, once something connected to the hive mind is killed, like a Demogorgon, it weakens Vecna. 

Seems easy right?

Just find the last remaining thing on the hive mind that's still living, that's thriving, and kill it.

Wait.

Oh.

Will Byers.

In order to kill Vecna, they had to kill Will Byers. 

The boy they'd spent so long trying to keep alive. 

The boy Eleven had risked her life to save

Was now the boy Eleven had to kill

For the greater good?

"Fuck no!" Mike pushed the sharp blade back towards Max, his hands trembling as hot tears streamed down his face. 

"L-look, I don't want to do this either. But Mike, it's the greater good."

"Mike. It's for our family. Do you remember what I saw? What Vecna showed me? Mom, dad, Holly, a-and even you, dead. But if we stop him, we can stop our family and so many other people from dying." Nancy sniffled, sitting on the couch next to Robin. 

"Well, w-why do I have to do it? Why not Eleven? She’s the Kas in this situation after all-"

"He won't suspect you." Dustin piped up. He'd been oddly quiet this entire conversation. In fact, the only people really talking were Max and Nancy. 

"He trusts you the most out of all of us Mike. " El gave him a small smile, trying her best to be comforting. 

"Eleven! You spent so much time and effort to get Will out of the upside down, and now you just want to kill him?!"

"It is not my fault Will is on the hive mind. There is nothing else we can do." 

"Oh yeah? Well, maybe it is. Ever think that maybe you didn't find him quick enough? Maybe if you had tried just a bit harder you could've gotten him out of the upside down sooner?" 

El went quiet, and Mike was visibly very upset. 

"Look, Mike, no one's going to make you kill him. B-but if you don't I will-"

"Max!" Lucas interrupted, standing up from the couch. 

"Look. J-just think about it, okay?" Max gently placed the knife back in Mike's hands, and everyone quietly left the room.

The house itself seemed pretty empty, probably because almost everyone in Hawkins had decided to leave with the whole ground opening and revealing a hell dimension thing.

Will sighed, sitting on the cold ground. 

Where else could he go?

He couldn't tell Joyce- She'd probably go crazy knowing practically everyone he talked to wanted him dead. 

He'd been there for who knows how long, thinking.

Should I be dead?

Should I just kill myself to get it over with?

Will they really go through with it? Will El really kill me?

Suddenly Will was dragged from his thoughts when he heard leaves crunching and twigs snapping. 

He started panicking, tears building in his eyes. 

"Will?"

It was Mike. Relief flooded Will as he heard his voice, it was someone he could trust. Right?

Mike knelt down next to Will, making sure he hid the knife in his back pocket. 

It was for the greater good, right?

"Kinda crazy huh? All...well, this?" Mike tried to chuckle, but the sound came out dry and muffled. 

"I-I, I should've just died down there." Will choked out, hot tears streaming down his face. 

Mike's eyebrows furrowed. "What are you talking about?"

"The upside down. You guys worked so hard t-to try and save me, a-and for what?"

"No no no Will, you have it all wrong. You're amazing, okay, and we would've tried anything to get you out. I would've tried anything."

"B-but why? For s-someone like m-me? I'm such a b-burden, I-I should just kill myself-" 

Mike slowly reached for the knife in his pocket. 

This didn't feel right.

He shouldn't do it. 

He couldn't do it.

"Look, Will Byers. You are the best person I've ever met, and the day you went missing was the worst day of my life. S-sometimes I still think about that night. S-should we of played longer? Should I have convinced my mom to let you sleep over? Asked my parents to d-drive you home?"

"B-but why? I-i'm not worth this much e-effort-"

"Will. Listen to me,"

Mike was crying too. Hot tears streaming from his face, and he turned to face Will, and put a hand on his shoulder. 

"I-I," Will stuttered. 

"Please, please don't talk about yourself like that ever again." Mike choked out. He slowly grabbed the end of the knife, moving it to where Will wouldn't notice in front of him.

This was a good way to do it right?

Make him feel good, tell the truth, then quickly do it? 

"I-I- I love you, Mike." Will sniffled.

Mike froze. 

Was that what you call it?

That deep feeling in his gut?

No, it couldn't be

But he thought back to that Halloween night when they were 12

"W-was this your plan a-all along?" The boy's words were muffled, plant stopping the words from coming up

"O-of course not. I-I just got you back no no no. You're gonna be okay Will. W-we'll get you to the hospital, a-and I'm sure Dustin's theory w-was wrong and-" Mike gulped, preparing for the words he was about to speak. The words he meant. "I love you, Will Byers. And I'm so, so sorry for how much of an ass I've been to you these past 2 years. Please, please forgive me."

Mike cupped Will's face in his hands. 

"W-will? A-are you there? Can you hear me?!" Mike was frantic now, watching the blood pool around them.

"I-i'm so-orry mike." Will stuttered out. 

Mike pulled Will's face closer. So close their lips were touching.
