HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU 💥💥💥 (ON TIME THIS TIME)
for the q&a: what projects are you currently working on? what projects would you *like* to do in the future?
THANK YOU (ONE DAY LATER)
I ve just started my second semester so obviously its time for me to start working on a wide array of projects lmao
i still have the color deconstructor and the pixelart choose-your-adventure game on the backburner. my teacher gave me some advice for the first one and i was gonna do it during hollidays but then i realized it'd be the 4th time i do it and i almost lost all my motivation. im thinking about doing both of them as part of my neocity site but i need to learn openGL/webGL so that's dependent on me finding a good book for that
ideas for drawings are few and far between and the motivation to do them is even lower. i've actually thinking about doing an extra comic for my terumob comic series
once in a while i do some coding but the results aren't flashy enough for me to talk about it here. lots of color manipulation and stuff using images like this code that limits the colors of an image based on the colors of the second image (i know it looks ugly, i coded it just now)

something i've been thinking about is the way dwarf fortress deals with animals and other creatures. you have RAW files made out of tokens, like these from the unicorn (incomplete):
[CREATURE:UNICORN] [DESCRIPTION:A horse-like creature with a spiral horn growing from its forehead.] [NAME:unicorn:unicorns:unicorn] [CASTE_NAME:unicorn:unicorns:unicorn] [CREATURE_TILE:'U'][COLOR:7:0:1] [CREATURE_CLASS:MAMMAL] [PETVALUE:1000] [PREFSTRING:horns] [VISION_ARC:50:310] [GOOD] [LARGE_ROAMING] [POPULATION_NUMBER:15:30] [CLUSTER_NUMBER:3:7] [GRASSTRAMPLE:0] [NO_VEGETATION_PERTURB] [STANDARD_GRAZER] [BIOME:FOREST_TAIGA] [BIOME:ANY_TEMPERATE_FOREST] [BIOME:ANY_TROPICAL_FOREST] [BIOME:SHRUBLAND_TEMPERATE] [BIOME:SHRUBLAND_TROPICAL] [BENIGN][MEANDERER] [BODY:QUADRUPED_NECK_HOOF:TAIL:2EYES:2EARS:NOSE:2LUNGS:HEART:GUTS:ORGANS:THROAT:NECK:SPINE:BRAIN:SKULL:MOUTH:TONGUE:GENERIC_TEETH:RIBCAGE:HEAD_HORN:EYELIDS:CHEEKS] [PET][MOUNT][PACK_ANIMAL]
the game looks at these and creates a creature with those characteristics. this is also the reasin dwarf fortress has like 200 animals. everything in the game is based on raws but im mostly focused on the animal part of it. i've been thinking about trying to recreate this system just for the fun of it (no idea what i'd use it for lol) i have some ideas but i'd like to do some more research
im also thinking about doing this on python bc i really wanna learn python

Me: hm, I should take a break from my thesis
Also me: *opens another incorrect quotes generator*
This time, Telemachus & Astyanax edition feat Odysseus
Telemachus : Fuck.
Astyanax : We've got to work on your cursing.
Telemachus : Why? I'm pretty good at cursing already.
--
Astyanax: I'm a reverse necromancer.
Telemachus : Isn't that just killing people?
Astyanax : Ah, technicality.
--
Telemachus , tending to Astyanax 's wounds: How would you rate your pain?
Astyanax : Zero stars. Would NOT recommend.
--
Astyanax : I learned some very valuable lessons from this.
Telemachus : I’m guessing they are all horrible distortions on the lessons you actually should’ve taken away.
Astyanax : Death isn’t real, and I’m basically God.
--
Telemachus : I was arrested for being too cool.
Astyanax : The charges were dropped due to a lack of supporting evidence.
--
Telemachus : Must be hard not being able to laugh
Astyanax : I do have a sense of humor you know
Telemachus : I’ve never heard you laugh before
Astyanax : I’ve never heard you say anything funny
--
Astyanax : You fuckers don’t know about my knife stick. It’s a knife taped to a stick and it’s the ultimate weapon.
Telemachus, not looking up from their book: Spear.
Astyanax : BLOCKED.
--
Telemachus : Astyanax , keep an eye on father today. He's going to say something to the wrong person and get punched.
Astyanax : Sure, I’d love to see Odysseus get punched.
Telemachus : Try again.
Astyanax , sighing: I will stop Odysseus from getting punched.
--
Telemachus : Why are you on the floor?
Astyanax : I'm depressed, my homeland was raided when I was a baby
Telemachus : ...
Astyanax : Also I was stabbed, can you get father, please.
--
(during the suitors fight etc)
Telemachus , to Astyanax : My life is in the hands of an idiot!
Astyanax , motioning to himself and Odysseus : No no no no no, TWO idiots! And one of them shares DNA with you!
--
Store Worker: Would the Prince Telemachus please come to the front desk?
Telemachus , arriving at the desk: Hello, is there a problem?
Store Worker: points to Astyanax and Odysseus
Store Worker: I believe they belong to you?
Astyanax and Odysseus , simultaneously: We got lost :(
Telemachus : I didn’t even bring you guys here with me-
--
Telemachus : What do you think Astyanax will do for a distraction?
Odysseus : He’ll probably, like, make a noise or throw a rock. That’s what I would do.
*Building explodes and several car alarms go off*
Odysseus : ... or he could do that.
--
Telemachus : We need a distraction.
Astyanax : Is anyone here good at jumping up and down and making weird noises?
Odysseus , whispering: My time has come
Telemachus: what's wrong with you two??
Astyanax: Tele, my bro my guy my dude, have we ever tell you about the time we get lost at the sea FOR TEN YEARS???
--
Telemachus, holding a python: Guys I impulsively bought a snake, what do I name him
Astyanax : You did WHAT–
Odysseus : Polyphemus Poseidonius the First
--
Telemachus : *Screams*
Astyanax : *Screams louder to assert dominance*
Odysseus : Should we do something?!
Penelope , observing: No, I want to see who wins this.
--
Telemachus : *Gently taps table*
Astyanax : *Taps back*
Odysseus : What are they doing?
Penelope : Morse code.
Telemachus : *Aggressively taps table*
Astyanax : *Slams hands down* YOU TAKE THAT BACK-
--
Telemachus : You are now one day closer to eating your next bowl of olives
Astyanax : That's the most hopeful thing I've ever heard.
Odysseus : But what if I die tomorrow and never eat any olives?
Penelope : Then tomorrow is olive lucky day.
--
Odysseus : Why are Telemachus and Astyanax sitting with their backs to each other?
Penelope : They had a fight.
Odysseus : Then why are they holding hands?
Penelope : They get sad when they fight.
--
Telemachus , banging on the door: Astyanax ! Open up!
Astyanax : Well, it all started when I was a kid...
Odysseus : No, they meant-
Penelope : Let them finish.
And that's all for now

calanthe looks pretty cool, you have more info about her?
Calanthe is a surviving basilisk adopted by Hunter and Willow in my WIP NextGen AU! Here's some quick information before I delve into that whole backstory: Name: Calanthe Species: Basilisk Pronouns: He/her Age: Roughly 14-16 Tracks: Potions and Plants primarily She was accidentally uncovered when Darius led a search party to clear out the old Emperor's Coven laboratory in search of lost information that they could record (with Hunter as a guide, since he knew where the labs were, and the basilisks were too afraid to go anywhere near the area). To everyone's surprise, Belos incubated another batch of basilisks after the first ones had escaped, but died before they could hatch. In the incubation process, without the proper care they needed, all other eggs died except for one: Calanthe. Hunter was the first to discover Calanthe, after being hit with intense memories of the lab and hallucinating. At least he thought he was hallucinating when a vision of himself appeared, turns out it was a basilisk moulding into his form. When he realised this was a physical being, he freaked out at first. Then he saw the black-rimmed blue eyes. The basilisk had imprinted on him, taking on his form as they may typically do as babies. It turned back into a small yellow python-patterned basilisk with blue eyes and light brown hair, to which Hunter and the group had taken it to the Healing Coven for inspection, and later Hunter and Willow had adopted the basilisk since 1. no one else could, and 2. it had already imprinted on them. In this AU, alongside primarily being a palisman carver, Hunter secondarily works with Darius to protect the Boiling Isles' children, creating better safety laws for all and putting more protection in place for the young ones. At the time he discovered and adopted Calanthe, Hunter would've probably been around 25 and was taking part as a student in a school that retaught important life lessons to those who didn't get to learn them. After finishing up with these classes, he transitioned to parenting schools in order to do his best for Calanthe. Willow is living the dream of leading the Emerald Entrails into constant victories, and reassures Hunter that he doesn't need to go to these schools, but he insists, as he absolutely despises the idea of becoming similar to Belos in any way. -Which Willow is actually quite proud of and inspired by.
Thanks to Willow and Hunter, Calanthe gets to live a perfectly normal and happy life, being able to embrace his basilisk side while being treated with the same love and normalcy that every child deserves. Calanthe has changed her appearance many times throughout her life, and still does till this very day, switching it up every now and then when she gets bored. Her primary/favourite appearance is taking inspiration from Willow's fringe, Hunter's face, and a mix between both of their body shapes. This is still a heavy WIP! However, some characters I am planning to add are: Luz + Amity's kids Boscha's child, possibly nonverbal Adrien Graye's neglected/forgotten daughter A Grudgby Team + Captain + Giving IV (now called Ivy) and III (now called Trip) more development and depth (the two basilisks seen in Watching and Dreaming) + King getting a MASSIVE growthspurt There will still be much more to come, once the ideas finally start to pop into my head. Hope this clears up some things! I'm happy you like her design, though it is still a WIP, such as everything else. I am still working on my Cinderkin AU too, in which I might make a 3rd AU combining these two for funsies at some point. It'd be sick to design Calanthe with Cinderkin features! :D

Various fine opinions on the meaning of life contained in Monty Python's The Meaning of Life:
*Unionize your workplace, alternatively turn it into a pirate ship and take to the high seas. It'll piss off management either way.
*Question everything.
*Look at what you think you know from a different perspective.
*The pursuit of profit at all costs can and will ruin the meaning of any work and also make you worse at it.
*Gender roles are not necessarily assigned at birth.
*The Catholic church is not well.
"God has blessed us so much I can't afford to feed you all any longer."
*Just because you're allowed doesn't mean you should.
*You should not, and will not, die to "keep China British."
*God has many ways to cook you to death, if He wants to.
*Straight sex is so damn boring.
*Don't just stampede towards the clitoris, Watson.
*Sport, like sex, only works between equal parties. Any other way and you invite horror and depravity. (That kid is definitely dead and the upperclassmen are just stomping on him anyway.)
*Actually, getting murdered playing rugby against adults two or three times your size is an excellent way to prepare you for fighting in a war.
*Even a good captain will be hated by their subordinates. This is the burden of command.
"We'll always need an army, and may God strike me down were it to be otherwise." *is immediately struck down by literal the hand of God*
*A fighting force is better served by a single soldier who actually wants to be there than twenty men who doesn't.
*There's a fine line between keeping one's cool in a heated situation and acting like you're on a bloody different planet when people are dying in front of you.
There are less than 4500 wild tigers left in the world. The "A tiger? In Africa?!" bit is less of a joke every year.
*In less than surprising news, killing people is bad for you. (It turns out, for psychologically healthy people, doing violence really hurts you as much as the victim.)
*Where is that fish?
*Theme restaurants could do with a bit of randomly mixed themes.
*Don't be afraid to ask the most idiotic questions about things you don't understand. That's how we learn.
*Oh ho it's the meaning of liver donation I get it now.
*The Galaxy Song is fun and all but don't give in to misanthropy.
*Matter is energy, the human soul grows with care and attention, and people aren't wearing enough hats.
*Actually, the movie makes a staggering point here and buries it with distracting nonsense jokes, while also making the point that we get sidetracked from self-actualization by distracting nonsense jokes. It's a point sandwich with joke filling.
Isn't it awfully nice to have a penis? Shout out to happy penis havers, though I'm not one myself.
*M Creosote shows us that single-minded devotion to one's mission in life (eating an entire upscale French restaurant in one sitting, for example) will leave you unhappy and alone.
*Dunk antisemites in buckets of vomit.
*Gaston, the middle aged waiter, delivers a coherent personal philosophy as he walks us to the cottage where he was born. The significance of this cannot be overestimated. He decided to be a waiter, you see. Because he believes in something. It's a simple belief of giving, of loving people and bringing them joy. But be believes it with all his heart and he'll fight for the right to live the life he chose.
*If you have to die, but can choose the manner of your execution, try being hounded to death by naked women.
*See the world in a grain of sand, or a maple leaf as it were.
*Terry Pratchett was a great man and a great writer, but he's wrong about one thing: Death is relative. No, no, you can't argue away Death or shoot him, but he is subject to the laws of relativity. Consider the stars in the sky; at least one star that's visible to the naked eye I hear may be dead right now - it's 500 light years away and they think it may go supernova at any point within 500 years from now. But here, locally, the star still lives; there's no possible reality where it's gone until the light of its explosion reaches us.
*Heaven is a fantastically cheesy musical theater performance with angel santa claus strippers and a lead singer you just want to punch. Clearly we need to build something better here on Earth.
*Be nice, read books, take a walk sometimes, and try to live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations. Obviously.
*[The producers] hope that other fish will follow [the example of the movie] so that, in future, fish all over the world will live together in harmony and understanding, and put aside their petty differences, stop hunting and eating each other and live for a brighter, better future for all fish and those who love them. Yes, clearly this is about fish.

my talent has always been dressing up as halloween costumes nobody knows, even from an early age. a few of the greatest hits include
eddie munster, age like 9. i won most unique costume at a costume party because nobody could figure out who i was, despite my infodumping
beatrice baudelaire, age like 11. absurd choice considering she is dead by the time the book series starts and does not have a canon description to my recollection, but i insisted
the killer rabbit from monty python and the holy grail, age like 13. my friend was the mad hatter and everyone thought we were together and had to be like NO!!! and i was somehow confused that my fellow eighth graders didn’t know monty python
the tardis, in a horrible dress i sewed all by myself by taking apart a bunch of other halloween costumes, age idk 14?
the eleventh doctor, age 15 i think, but a group of friends all went as dw characters so there was strength in numbers there
italy from hetalia but it’s fine if we don’t acknowledge that one. age 17 :/
philip j. fry, age 18. that one’s not even that obscure but only like ten people knew me, one of whom was the adult in charge of stage crew, and one of whom was a school security guard. i did get a few kids at lunch who called me over excitedly and then clapped when i pulled out my slurm can and bender plushie, though, so that was fun
seymour krelborn from little shop of horrors, age 19. i handmade a twoey and everything, and still have it to this day! unfortunately people kept thinking i was a kid from stranger things. but i went to a local convention with this cosplay and the nostalgia critic thought my costume was great so that’s something
cinnamon j. scudworth, age 21. the tumblr girlies had not learned about clone high yet so i went unrecognized even in my art school’s animation club, even with my homemade butlertron
terry hintz, age 22. nobody i came across knew who i was but some people on twitter were nice to me which was cool. i had made handwritten hints to give anyone who knew me but then nobody did :(
poochie the rockin’ dog, age 23. my coworker at the time sorta knew me, maybe, and one customer at my workplace did the whole “my planet needs me” but, but most people were baffled
lambert from cult of the lamb, age 24. nobody knew who i was once the costume was put together, but the guy at the costume shop who helped me put some aspects of it together almost lost his mind when i said who i was
madotsuki from yume nikki, age 25. just wore it to pass out candy at my dad’s business, nobody knew who i was and a few thought i didn’t have a costume
anyway all this to say that rudy dressing up as paul rudd in “i love you, man” spoke to me on a deep level
#I wasn’t even trying to be obscure with these it’s just costumes i was personally into#i will say i love being the person who gets a kids weirder halloween costume now that i’m the one passing candy out#love being like hi chara. hi kiki your jiji is very cute. hello little ghost say hi to hornet for me#always makes them light up when they’ve clearly not had anyone get their costume#funniest is when their parent (usually the dad i noticed) is as excited as them#dad and kid started infodumping to me about hollow knight once when i recognized the costume#another dad was so excited I knew his kid was wakko from the animaniacs

TALK TO ME ABOUT KOBRA KID
KISSING YOU RN HI!!!! IM GOIGN TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT KOBRA KID
ok so ive decided:
he has heterochromia
he loves old movies, dr d had a pile left older and ghoul fixed him up a dvd player. his favourites are romcoms and stuff from the eighties. he also likes the karate kid.
he’s SHIT at gunfights [idk if this is canon or not but anyway] he always always does hand to hand if its possible
he fixes up his bike [which he nicknames Python cause he’s cringe] with cool racing stripes and red paint and stuff to match his gun. ghoul helps.
he’s ftm. whatever i do with kobra in any au, he’s ftm. my brain glitches when i read fics where he isnt. trans kobra. can anyone hear me.
he makes bad luck beads for everyone. the girl joins in, putting cool charms on them all.
autism
^ specifically he’s really touch sensitive and noise sensitive, if he has a meltdown its usually because of the latter, but sometimes he literally refuses to wear a shirt because it Feels Wrong. also his sunglasses are for light sensitivity yes, but also to avoid eye contact.
he also sucks at binding, he’s so irresponsible. forgets to do stretches, wears it for too long, smokes with it on. it drives the others INSANE, and ghoul’s the only one who can get him to actually take care of it properly.
everyone shares his clothes.
he’s got a super good memory, probably eidetic if any of the killjoys knew what that meant. he knows so many random facts about before the world ended.
^ he also really likes learning history, whether its from old books that he finds around, or oral retellings from older ‘joys.
he used to braid his hair, and so now that he’s the only one with short hair, he does everyone elses.
he can do weird body tricks like bend his arm out really far and curl his tongue and stuff. it makes jet so mad [in a joking way] because how! how does he DO that!
he loves colourful things. he has a pile of charms and beaded bracelets and stuff that he either loops around his belt hooks or puts on his wrists.
he has a really good singing voice, secretly.
he’s the only one of the four that uses a single set of pronouns
#piper's ask box#piper.txt.#kobra kid#the true lives of the fabulous killjoys#danger days#mcr#headcannons#funkobra#< barely but if i talk about those two just know in my brain they’re kissing

I would love to hear more about your story idea where Cedric gets a snake familiar! How he got her, their relationship, her personality, etc. You mentioned some things, and I've been thinking about it a lot tbh.
Cedric, The Sorcerer; Rose, The Snake
Above GIF is what Rose looks like! She is a ball python!
Cedric was in his tower, doing royal sorcerer things, as he does
He hears from his balcony/window Sofia arguing with the guards and she sounded distressed
He sees her holding,,, something
Or rather, something is wrapped around her shoulders-
"OMG IS THAT A BLOODY FUCKIN SNAKE???" - Cedric, probably
He goes to investigate
Sofia says that Rose Got hurt because some kids were fucking with it for fun (because it's common that snakes are mistreated/killed just for being a snake)
He notices Rose has some skin missing and in general looks beat up
Rose is pretty much exactly like her name implies: sweet, beautiful, and full of love and affection
She's very encouraging of Cedric, very eager to help him fetch ingredients, and basically becomes his best friend! She's a great listener, sorta motherly in a sense, and also suffers from anxiety and depression like Cedric does (because of her trauma/isolation because people judge her for being a snake)
She also offers free pest control in Cedric's tower and pretty much the whole castle! Not one mouse or rat has been seen since Rose moved in....
Rose LOVES being on Cedric's shoulders and wrapping around his arm. She's a snake after all, and she needs warmth!
Cedric has since made sure his workshop gets PLENTY of sunlight since Rose was put under his care. The sunshine even helps Cedric feel good after getting used to it!
Cedric at first was hesitant to get close to rose. After wormys betrayal, he didn't think he could trust another familiar to get so close to him. If his lifelong former best friend could betray him, why not a snake? A figure that represents deceit and evil?
But rose proves Cedric wrong
She's eternally grateful for Cedric taking such good care of her. And she at first was terrified of him. Sofia had to sit with her while Cedric patched her up, she didn't want to be alone with him just yet :(( but she trusted Sofia, and if Sofia trusted Cedric, then rose would give him a chance
They both are distant to each other at first, but as rose recovers, she gets bored of just. Doing nothing. And she doesn't want to explore the castle and scare anyone, lest she get hurt again :((
So she watches Cedric work. Becomes familiar with a few things. And suddenly when Cedric needs an ingredient, rose is slithering to get it for him!
At first Cedric insisted she rest, but rose convinced him to let her help, "to return the kindness you gave me, Mr. Cedric"
Oh yeah Rose calls him "Mr. Cedric" for the few first days (despite Cedric's insistence she doesn't have to) because Sofia calls him that xD Rose is super polite!
Once Rose is rested up finally, she expressed fear of going back into the wild. Living in the castle was... Nice. And safe. And warm. And most importantly, she had friends 🥺
So Cedric brought up her becoming his familiar
At first, rose couldn't believe it! And she was hesitant because she wasn't sure how others would react to her being his familiar. She didn't want to cause Cedric any trouble by being associated with her :((
Cedric then replies "My dear, the last familiar I had was much more trouble than he was worth- but you? You're the friend and familiar I think I've always needed. If you want to humor me, that is?"
And that's history! Everyone needed some adjustments to Rose- after all, a fear of snakes is a common phobia. But the royal family learns to love her, and Rose learns to trust other humans as they show her love and compassion. And seeing Sofia hold her and Rose be so sweet makes the twins start to hold her too! Even amber comes around! James thought Rose was cool from day one though xD
Rose is also 5.5 feet long!
#thank u for the ask shy!#i love rose so goddamn much#snakes are so fucking cool#this was an excuse for me to talk about snakes tbh#whats a neurodivergent person without their slightly unconventional pet amirite#bettathanyou answers#cedric the sensational#cedricthesorceror#sophia the first#cedric the sorcerer

stream of consciousness about the new animation vs. coding episode, as a python programmer
holy shit, my increasingly exciting reaction as i realized that yellow was writing in PYTHON. i write in python. it's the programming language that i used in school and current use in work.
i was kinda expecting a print("hello world") but that's fine
i think using python to demonstrate coding was a practical choice. it's one of the most commonly used programming languages and it's very human readable.
the episode wasn't able to cram every possible concept in programming, of course, but they got a lot of them!
fun stuff like print() not outputting anything and typecasting between string values and integer values!!
string manipulation
booleans
little things like for-loops and while-loops for iterating over a string or list. and indexing! yay :D
* iterable input :D (the *bomb that got thrown at yellow)
and then they started importing libraries! i've never seen the turtle library but it seems like it draws vectors based on the angle you input into a function
the gun list ran out of "bullets" because it kept removing them from the list gun.pop()
AND THEN THE DATA VISUALIZATION. matplotlib!! numpy!!!! my beloved!!!!!!!! i work in data so this!!!! this!!!!! somehow really validating to me to see my favorite animated web series play with data. i think it's also a nice touch that the blue on the bars appear to be the matplotlib default blue. the plot formatting is accurate too!!!
haven't really used pygame either but making shapes and making them move based on arrow key input makes sense
i recall that yellow isn't the physically strongest, but it's cool to see them move around in space and i'm focusing on how they move and figure out the world.
nuke?!
and back to syntax error and then commenting it out # made it go away
cool nuke text motion graphics too :D (i don't think i make that motion in python, personally)
and then yellow cranks it to 100,000 to make a neural network in pytorch. this gets into nlp (tokenizers and other modeling)
a CLASS? we touch on some object oriented programming here but we just see the __init__ function so not the full concept is demonstrated here.
OH! the "hello world" got broken down into tokens. that's why we see the "hello world" string turn into numbers and then... bits (the 0s and 1s)? the strings are tokenized/turned into values that the model can interpret. it's trying to understand written human language
and then an LSTM?! (long short-term memory)
something something feed-forward neural network
model training (hence the epochs and increasing accuracy)
honestly, the scrolling through the code goes so fast, i had to do a second look through (i'm also not very deeply versed in implementing neural networks but i have learned about them in school)
and all of this to send "hello world" to an AI(?) recreation of the exploded laptop
not too bad for a macbook user lol
i'm just kidding, a major of people used macs in my classes
things i wanna do next since im so hyped
i haven't drawn for the fandom in a long time, but i feel a little motivated to draw my design of yellow again. i don't recall the episode using object oriented programming, but i kinda want to make a very simple example where the code is an initialization of a stick figure object and the instances are each of the color gang.
it wouldn't be full blown AI, but it's just me writing in everyone's personality traits and colors into a function, essentially since each stick figure is an individual program.

♥ ♡ Intro Post! ♡ ♥
post update (10/17/23)
uhh okay so eventually this will be more about coding again but I've been too busy
but I'm just gonna reblog and talk about whatever
---------------------------------------
Hi, I’m mousiecat 🐭🐱
I'm so excited to participate in the Codeblr community!
I'd love it if you checked out my Neocities!
If you're on Neocities, you can follow me here :)

Coding Origins
The golden age of Neopets! It was an HTML/CSS wonderland! You could catch my kid self building Sailor Moon guilds, spicing up my shop, and customizing my pet pages.
♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥
Coding Rebirth
A bit ago, in a fit of nostalgia, I surfed Geocities archives and longed for the days the creative web still existed. Then I realized...HTML/CSS are still around, and people are still making cute, fun, independent sites with it. You don’t have to resort to uploading content to some billionaire’s website--you can still make your own!
So, I got on the Neocities train, and I've been really excited about the endless possibilities with coding! I especially love that, if you are able to access a consistent computer and internet connection, you can do everything else for FREE! Learning, creating, publishing, all of it. Kinda kickass.
♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥
Currently Learning:
HTML/CSS, and soon JavaScript with FreeCodeCamp
Learning a bit of Python with Udemy (mostly to connect with a local lesbian coding group)
Attending random Meetup coding events until I find my groove~
♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥
Goals:
My primary goals are fun and creativity! I especially wanna make cute lil games and activities for silly webpages :)
More and more, I also want to find ways to use coding for liberatory organizing, especially abolition, sex worker advocacy, and reproductive justice work. So far I've made a cute page for an event, and I've got some ideas for simple educational games :) I'd love to strategize beyond this ~~~~~
Down the line it could be really cool to get a paying gig, but it's not my central motive
I just want to keep learning more so I have a better sense of all the possibilities!!! Let's get this party STARTED!
♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥
Codeblr Goals:
You know…I’ll post when I post and I won’t when I won’t! I have ADHD, so out of love for myself I don’t give myself assignments when I don’t have to. So, I’m not trying to post every day or anything. I just want a lil outlet for it when I’m feeling it! I love learning from everyone here, and it would be amazing to make connections!

Made a game in Python?! I know u said that it sucks but that's so cool!! I know nothing Abt coding but I wanna learn so I'm starting w stuff aimed at kids bc I have a hard time understanding lol
i did!!! it does suck its just like a snake game and its very uncomplicated. i think im gonna redo it and give it some more features so its something i can build up. and streamline the code bc its clunky
i need to start taking it seriously its literally my degree LMAOOO and i still cant make anything super complex
i wont tell u coding isnt hard bc i think thats bs. its hard for me even now but if you are interested i would suggest python its the easiest to pick up.
a lot of coding is very similar so use python to understand like. code structure and break down first. its really just about figuring out how to make all the pieces stick but the barrier to entry is low and there r a lot of resources so i believe u can do it.
but dont listen to ppl who say its not hard it literally is LMAOOOO

Hi everyone,
I've lately been working on a 2D platformer with movement similar to Celeste (you know, tight turns, low jump, all the good stuff!) using HaxeFlixel and well...the Haxe programming language. I've been really busy with life, namely exams but enough excuses, lets talk about the game!
==Nerd stuff==
So as I said, the game is made with HaxeFlixel and utilises its physics engine. However I've also written a layer of abstraction on top of that to make my life easier. Additionally, I wrote my own system to check if the player is grounded, and then got shell-shocked to learn that Flixel has a built in way to do that..don't be like me kids, read doccumentation first. I've also modified my own level editor to be able to export to .csv files so thats cool! The level editor is written in Python and Pygame and has some advanced features such as auto-tiling and some quality-of-life such as layers. I am really proud with how the game's movement is going and you can catch a glimpse of it below. :o
==Story==
I've wanted to write a story about..death. Its pretty morbid, however I dont want to treat it like some goth-emo crap but in a more subtle way. As in, its about a girl dying slowly from an illness and the player going through levels is a metaphor for her..well..passing on. I feel like its an original enough idea, and I think it would do for a pretty good plotwist!
==Music==
...yeah I have nothing here. Which is why, I am calling on YOU!
If you are a composer interested in working on a lil indie game, hit me up in DMs and we can talk about it. ^^
If you decide to do so, please do provide some of your work, something like a link on YouTube, SoundCloud, ect.
==Conclusion==
Thats all for today. I'll try to keep up a schedule but I cant promise anything..
So, wish me luck on exams, and yeah thats all! I hope to see you all guys later!

neon genesis Evangelion was created in Japan where Christianity wasn’t as widespread. Most of the people working on it were Buddhists or Shinto. The way they incorporated judeo -Christian mythology into the series was mostly because they thought it looked cool and thought it was interesting. They basically used Christian mythology the way marvel uses Norse mythology’.
And that made me start thinking. Thinking about shows like supernatural where they are constantly using biblical mythology as part of it’s lore. Shows like good omens and Hazbin hotel where Christian mythology is used irreverently and joked about and used as a metaphor for the real problems of the church.
I hear from a lot of people who went to church about how they always thought it was really boring only to find out how interesting it was later on. Because they never really taught it to them in a way that engaged them.
and I think about all the kids who were hyperfixiated on supernatural that could excitedly talk about all the angels they learned about just from watching the show.
And I feel like that’s important. I’ve always seen The Bible as a really daunting book. It’s hard for me and other people I know to engage with it because I feel like whatever I say will be the wrong thing and everyone will get mad at you for it. But when you incorporate it into say, a long running television show about monster hunters, or a show about giant fighting robots, or show that’s just one massive off-color joke about it. (Hazbin) or if it’s about the apocalypse (good omens) or if it’s about time travel (many waters by Madeleine L’Engle it’s one of many sequels to a Wrinkle in time. Or a rock musical. (Jesus Christ superstar) or a whole month python movie. It becomes less scary to explore. It becomes more fun to engage with. If you liked a charecter that is important in the Bible you can look them up and learn more about them.
I don’t know. I just really like how media has managed to incorporate biblical concepts in a way that makes it engaging and fun.

Oh, don't get me wrong I totally get how terrifying they are in person. I like to see snakes through the protective barrier or glass or a camera lens. I've always loved cobras and mambas but like rattlesnakes freaked me out more (probably cause in America they're the most venomous and the others don't live here).
Yeah, that's a very fair reason to be scared of snakes after that. I just think the little ones are more bitey cause they got something to prove or something, kind of like small dogs. Small dogs are always the vocal, yappy, nippy assholes (sorry if you have a small dog but like tell me I'm wrong).
One of my favorite things is to take pictures of snakes cause they're gorgeous and so many are so bright and vibrant. Their colors are just unreal! When I was in California I went to the LA and San Diego Zoo and though the LA zoo was kinda lame the best part was their reptile house, it was incredible and had so many cool snakes and lizards. San Diego had a giant reptile house and had a giant green anaconda (which I love seeing those dude).
Speaking of lizards, fun fact, have you ever seen the movie, Holes? Or have you ever read the book? Because the scary venomous yellow spotted lizards in that, for the movie adaptation they used bearded dragons to create them and just painted yellow spots on their back (and used CGI to make their fangs and the things pop out of the side of their face).
First of all, that python sounds gorgeous! Second, I love the name Marceline! It reminds me of Adventure Time (is that what they're named after?). And lastly, if I ever get a python, I intend to name him Phillip.
I lied, lastly, and way off topic, I learned of a TLOU art print going up for sale tomorrow. If you're interested. I'm kind of confused which site it will go live on, and I have no idea what time tomorrow, so I'm just going to stalk both Instagram pages and both websites all day tomorrow...
https://www.instagram.com/p/CxQxKZaLqyH/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
You get it!!! The smaller the animal, the more of an ass it will be. Small dogs are evil and I’m so glad I don’t have one
One thing I do like about snakes, are their colors; some of their patterns are insanely beautiful. I haven’t been to a zoo in a hot minute, but some of the reptiles they usually have a pretty cool! That’s so cool you got to see a giant anaconda in person!! All the zoos near me suck with their reptile houses
Holes used to be my favorite movie when I was a kid, and I quote the line “Well that’s too damn bad!” at least 7 times a day!! I did not know that they used bearded dragons for those lizards. That movie had me terrified of those really common blue lizards that you sometimes find around your house tho 😭
My favorite lizard has got to be those frilled-neck ones; the way they run is the funniest thing I have ever seen
You are correct; they named that python after Marceline from Adventure Time! If you don’t mind me asking, why the name Phillip??
THANK YOU FOR TELLING ME ABOUT THE ART PRINT!!! <33 I DEADASS HAD NO IDEA ABOUT IT, AND I NEED TO SAVE MONEY, BUT THIS IS TLOU WE ARE TALKING ABOUT!! You are doing God’s work; thank you and I love you!! <333

Welcome to Refinery29’s Why I Code, a Changing Face series where we ask inspirational, tech-disrupting trailblazers in computer science 29 questions about what fuels them on and off the clock. New York-based artist and designer Anya Karolyn never thought her longtime hobby of creating different types of art could turn into a full-time career. One dream art studio in Manhattan and successful print and apparel business later, it’s safe to say that she’s singing a different tune. As a mixed-media artist, Karolyn weaves together her passion for creating on a physical canvas with Photoshop-level computer editing and coding. You might call her a modern renaissance woman, constantly innovating via graphics and code. Growing up, Karolyn considered herself an “art kid,” but always thought it would just be something she enjoyed quietly. “[Art] was the thing that first gave me confidence in my identity because I wasn’t really identifying with anything else in school,” says the 26-year-old Boulder, CO native. “In art class, I just felt this weird sense of confidence that I didn’t have in any other aspect of my life, but I never thought it could be a full-time career — I didn’t even go to college for art. It was very much a fun talent I had.” Now, she’s fully immersed in KARO, her very own ever-evolving art project and business — but her journey to get there wasn’t always a straight line. “It’s [been] years and years of tiny baby steps, nuanced realizations, and breaking out of self-limiting beliefs,” she shares. “There have been so many sleepless nights, all-nighters on projects that I never got paid for, projects that never saw the light of day, or things that I felt were just a waste.” She started growing KARO on the side in 2018, but at the time, she was working as an in-house creative in the music industry at a major label, doing anything from directing music videos to animating lyric videos and GIFs to shooting single covers to editing concert recaps. “I was constantly working to make other artists’ visions come to life, and I kept asking myself, Why can’t I bet on myself like that? Am I going to live my whole life feeling like I’m in the wrong role? I was working at this job close to 50 hours per week, and then staying up every night working on art for KARO,” she says. “I couldn’t take it anymore eventually and saved up enough to give myself a chance and quit. The momentum built really quickly and it hasn’t stopped, which I’m super thankful for.” As Karolyn prepares for her first solo show in NYC, she’s incorporating coding into the experience in a unique and interactive way — another example of her layered approach to art. Although she doesn’t code in her daily life, she finds innovative ways to shape code to create anything her heart desires. DashDividers_1_500x100 What’s the first thing you’ve ever coded? “The first thing I ever coded was a ‘choose your own adventure’ game in Python, which I think, is a pretty simple first project. It allowed a player to navigate different story paths, and it was really cute. It was my first experience structuring logic [in coding].” What’s a project that was the most challenging for you? “The one that I’m doing right now in terms of coding integration because I’m learning how to do projection mapping for my next art show. I have so many ideas for it and I want it to be really special and custom. Projection mapping is so cool in the art world because you can enhance a piece of art by creating animations around it to supplement it. “I’m first using [TouchDesigner] to create animations of motifs, poetry, and visuals of my work, then using [MadMapper] to do custom projection mapping onto the gallery space. I have some time — which is good — but it’s a multi-step process that I haven’t done before. It’s a great way to merge nontraditional coding and technology with art, and I love being very much in the weeds with everything that I do for KARO.” What’s the first thing you do when you wake up? “I have to start my espresso machine. I also like to physically rise as soon as my alarm goes off. Because, once I’m up, I’m up. I used to have the bad habit of snoozing my alarm all the time. So now, I need to physically shake myself around, defrost my brain in the morning, turn on my espresso machine, and make myself a little latte.” What’s the last thing you do before going to bed? “I have my little nighttime routine and the biggest anchor of that is journaling. I love journaling. I really believe in it — I think it’s so powerful. I’ve been journaling nearly every day for years and years. I’ll go periods without it, but even since high school, I’ve been keeping a journal ,and it just helps decompress my brain and get me calm for the night.” When does inspiration strike for you? “100% at night — never once in the morning. I’m such a night owl. My brain takes a couple hours in the morning to defrost. I’ve always wanted to be a morning person that wakes up really early and is super productive, but I just had to accept that I’m more productive, creative, inspired, motivated, and energetic at night, and I can’t change it. That’s why I started talking about this on my YouTube channel. I made a video about it. I have a day shift and I have a night shift. My night shift is where the actual magic happens.” What does your workspace look like? “My studio is honestly a perfect reflection of myself. It’s my inner self materialized as a physical space. It’s kind of artistically messy. It’s very playful and it’s fun. There are lots of colors, but there’s a lot of intention behind the little knick-knacks everywhere. It’s like a showroom of my brain.” What do you do when you’re stuck in a rut? “I’ll journal or I’ll go for a walk. Going for a walk always resets my mental health — I love walking around in New York. Dancing in my studio [also helps]. I’ll put on a song that I love dancing to — it’s one of my greatest joys. That will really get me out of a rut [because it helps] to physically move myself. Also, sleeping. If I’m stuck in a rut, it’s likely because I’m getting burnt out. I tend to work myself to burn out pretty easily. Then, I’ll cancel plans and I’ll sleep because sometimes I just really need a mental reset. I need to sleep in without an alarm and I’ll feel so much better the next day.” What’s one thing you wish to accomplish? “A solo show in New York City! That one’s easy for me, because I’m already planning it right now, but it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. What’s your favorite piece of advice that you’ve gotten? “Leap and the net will appear. I just got LEAP tattooed on my hand [laughs].” Who inspires you the most? “A mix of all of my New York City artist friends that I spend my time with. There’s this very beautiful, artistic, creative community that I feel so giddy to be a part of. I see their journeys and I see what they’re up to and how they keep going. As an artist in my 20s in New York, I just love being a part of that; they inspire me so much. I feel like I’m kind of a mosaic of these people that are around me.” Who, if anyone, do you try to emulate? “I almost want to be a person that’s emulated — which I have seen when I start getting tagged in things and people would say, “This is so KARO.” It’s honestly the biggest form of flattery.” What’s something people ask you for advice about often? “People always ask me how to quit their job that they’re not happy with when they have artistic passions. I hear that all the time and that’s my favorite conversation to have. You can put me in a room with someone for an hour who’s on the brink of quitting their job and I’ll make them quit [laughs].” What’s a piece of advice you felt proud to give? “Definitely the above advice. It’s wild because a couple of years ago, I was on the other side of it, and wondering, How do I quit my job? It’s the most terrifying thing in the world. I had to ask myself: Are my passions legitimate? Or are they just this silly hobby? I had so many self-limiting beliefs and so many things that I was worried about. [It’s great] to be in a position where, I know for a fact, that I made the right decision. There’s no doubt or anxiety in my head, and I feel very thankful.” What is your most-used app on your phone? “It was StreetEasy until I finally found my dream apartment recently. I was using StreetEasy like it was Instagram — I was refreshing it every day. But now, it’s probably CapCut because I edit nearly everything on it. I spend so much time on there — my screen time goes way up because of how much time I’m working on it.” What do you do when you feel yourself burning out? “I will cancel all of my plans to give myself time to be alone, journal, exercise, and sleep. I need my alone time. I’m a very social introvert, but I need to recharge by myself.” What’s something you consider a secret weapon? “I think I have a couple. First, it’s the fact that both of my parents are immigrants. I grew up multiculturally and my stepfamily is also from a completely different culture than my own. My mom is from Peru, my dad is from Germany, and my stepfamily is Lebanese. I was raised trilingual with Spanish and German. My German isn’t that great, though. Growing up with an immigrant family really influenced my worldview, work ethic, and appreciation of diverse experiences. It feels like a superpower. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve had a much more open mind and a much bigger world view. I think that’s a huge privilege: to be able to see a bigger map of the way people live. My other secret weapon is that I know how to do all the parts of KARO that I’m doing — the business stuff, the software, the Photoshop editing, and the animations. I don’t have to rely on other people all of the time and I can be independent in a lot of respects. People can be intimidated and think they need to hire people for everything — which isn’t always true especially when you’re just starting out.” Where are you, compared to where you thought you’d be at 12 years old? “I’m light years beyond where I thought I’d be when I was 12 years old! My 12-year-old self could not even fathom where I could possibly be today. I just did not have any self-confidence at 12 years old, and I totally didn’t think that what I’m doing was even an option. I just kind of saw my life going in a very traditional, nuclear [direction] like everyone around me.” What’s been your biggest piece of support, helping you get to where you are? “My friends and loved ones in my life just loving me and always being supportive of my ideas and not making me feel weird about them. I know a lot of people that try and put themselves out there, and their friends are just like, ‘Why are you doing that?’ The judgment can be a major block. My friends would always like my posts on Instagram when I had zero followers and they would share them. Also, the people who follow me and have been supporting and talking about my art in person to other people. And anyone wearing my work or putting it in their home. That is what makes it possible for me to have this as a full-time career — that kind of support. I’m extremely grateful that I have an audience now. I would be doing this regardless, and I have been doing this my whole life, but the only difference now and why I can make it a career is because I have an audience that listens now.” If you could change one thing about your professional life, what would it be? “I wish I had more free time. It’s astounding how quickly a day goes by because my to-do list is never-ending, and it’s mostly filled with things that I’m really excited about and want to do. I love what I do. It’s just that there’s no time.” What do you do to start your workday? “Timeboxing. I block out my day because I’m very scatter-brained and all over the place. I have a never-ending to-do list, and it forces myself to pick three top priorities for the day, and then I can brain-dump in another section [of my planner], and then I can time-lock another section. It helps my brain immensely. I cannot go through a day without a time box or else the day is going to be a mess and I’m going to feel terrible.” What do you do to end your workday? “I’ll journal again. I like to exercise and take weird workout classes. By weird, I mean, I’ll just try new things. There’s a studio right next to my studio that does really fun pole classes, hoop classes, trapeze, and aerial art. It’s really cool.” Why do you code? “[I code] when there’s a specific effect I want to achieve with my art like projection-mapping. It gets me where I want to go and is the tool to get me there.” What’s one thing you’d change about your industry? “[I wish there was] more support and representation for women — women in higher positions and more female voices. I love the initiative that certain companies are taking now. Computer Science is Everything especially, with its efforts to empower women. I love that initiative, and that’s so much of what I want to have for my own brand, too. I’ve seen so much misogyny in the industries that I’ve worked in. So, continuing to put myself out there is hopefully a little tiny piece of that change. We need more female voices in these industries.” What are you hoping the future of tech will look like? “Definitely to see more representation and more female-led businesses.” Like what you see? How about some more R29 goodness, right here? Source link
