hey you know what? I'm actually so happy to have found this corner of the internet where I get to indulge in some of my favourite pastimes. I have a very fulfilling life outside of this and I'm deeply grateful for that too but isn't it fucking nice to come here and get to chat about our favourite characters together? isn't it fucking grand that we're from different parts of the world and yet we get to share our writing, our art, our thoughts and that we find connection through that? there are so many kind and intelligent people here and guys, it's a privilege to have witnessed your light, even if it's through a screen and behind a silly username. not everyone gets the chance to interact with other people who share the same passions, and I like the fact that we're all at different stages of our lives but still find joy in this collective experience that is being in a fandom. maybe I'll grow out of it, maybe I won't, but it's liberating, satisfying and inspiring to be here and, most importantly, I'm having fun and that's all that matters, right?
so thank you, I guess, for just being here.

Marigold || Chapter 10 - Christmas at the Bambury's
To say that Sirius was over the moon to be asked to spend Christmas at Violet’s house with James and Marigold, was perhaps the understatement of the century.
“Are you sure?” he asked giddily.
“Yes Padfoot, unfortunately for the rest of us, Violet insisted on me “dragging you along”.”
Read Chapter 10 on A03
Start from the beginning
James Potter, 26 year old Bachelor, wants to be one thing more than anything else: a father. Therefore, he decides to give foster parenting a shot. He then meets a little girl, who is set to change his life forever.

Jily Microfic - Prompt: Red
@jilymicrofics - Word Count: 270 - Genre: Fluff, Modern AU
“James.” Lily’s voice was a mix of humorless deadpan and amused astonishment as she stared at the computer screen.
“Hm?” He looked at her, arm around her shoulders, with such a genuinely innocent expression that she almost felt guilty for teasing him.
“You did not honestly put a song from Red (Taylor’s Version) on our list of possible wedding songs.”
He sat up, turning to look at her incredulously. “What is wrong with Red (Taylor’s Version)?! That album is a masterpiece!”
She couldn’t help laughing as she sat up and put the laptop aside. “I mean, I guess I won’t argue with you there, but…for our wedding song?”
“Have you heard the lyrics to Run?”
“Well…no,” she confessed. “But can you imagine how much the boys would tease you if we picked a Taylor Swift song for our first dance?”
James scoffed. “Please, 22 is one of Sirius’s favorite songs to dance to. The Marauders are Swifties through and through, Lils. Now look up the lyrics to Run so I can see your ‘well-maybe-I-was-wrong’ face.”
She smirked and rolled her eyes, but obliged.
Her skepticism slipped from her expression line by line, and she fully lost her conviction at the bridge. “James…” she mumbled, looking up from the lyrics page to meet his eyes. He wasn’t smirking as she’d expected, but smiling at her lovingly.
“Told you so.”
“Oh, shut up.” And she reached up to pull him in.
There’s been this hole in my heart This thing was a shot in the dark Say you’ll never let them tear us apart And I’ll hold onto you while we run

@jilytoberfest so the plan is to write microfics every day for Jilytober- all a part of a single story… this one got way way too long 😬😬😂😂… (and I may mix up these and @magic-girl-in-a-muggle-world’s prompts, depending on what fits!)
Those Smitten Idiots
Tumblr media
Prompt #1: “Smile!”
“For the last time, Sirius, I’m not going to the fucking Hallowe’en Ball with Alphonsus St.John Diggory!” Lily repeated.
Her cheeks had gone blotchy from the suppressed irritation, and she was practically whisper-shouting, which was potentially a total disaster. Seeing as this entire… situation depended on nobody finding out he was the brains behind Operation Smitten Idiots.
“Shush!” Sirius muttered tetchily, scanning the horizon for the twin dangers of James Potter or (potentially worse still) Remus Lupin.
Lily’s eyes widened and she opened her mouth indignantly to protest.
“Do not- “
“Don’t embarrass the poor chap! Not his fault that he’s been turned down by thirteen girls in a row!”
“Thirteen?”
Sirius nodded, adding in a sad huff at the end.
“He’s heartbroken.”
Lily rolled her eyes.
“Well, you’d think- “ she began.
“He failed his DADA exam. And his Charms test.”
Lily hesitated.
“And… his cat died. So did his owl. And his rabbit.”
Sirius grimaced. Okay, so that might be pushing it.
“No way?” Lily looked at him with horror. “The poor fella!”
“Yes, yes, dreadful stuff… caught him shedding bitter tears in the boys’ loos beside Minnie’s office. Bawling.”
He was, in fact, pretty sure that Alphonsus St.John Diggory had never shed a single tear in his entire, boring, perfect life. He was, however, an excellent Quidditch player, and good-looking to boot. Sirius Black might have been forced to call in a few favours for him in order to set this all up…
He could practically see her relenting.
“Don’t say a word though, he’d be mortified. Asked me not to breathe a word to anyone.”
“And he knows I’m only agreeing to go as a friend?” Lily bit her lower lip.
“Of course, I expressly warned him that I’d murder him if he so much as looked at you funny and- “
“Oh shut up, poor guy, imagine having to listen to your drivel when three of his pets died,” she said, her face taking on a determined expression.
Just then, James Fleamont “I could have asked Evans to the ball and we all know she’d have said yes immediately but I’m either an idiot or a spineless coward so I didn’t bother” Potter walked into the great hall. Wearing his dress robes which Sirius had secretly charmed to cling to his shoulders and back and chest like a certain quidditch uniform which Lily Evans was want to stare at. Lily’s mouth - as if on cue - hung open.
“Six. Six pets. I forgot to mention his pet lambs,” he said, taking her arm and walking in the direction of Himbo Diggory.
“Six?” Her eyebrows shot up and she tore herself away from staring at his useless best friend. “Lambs?”
Only Prongs was now rooted to the spot like a pillar of salt, or a giant stunned Pygmy Puff.
“Seven, if you count his pet rat, which I wasn’t.”
“You… what? How very DARE you!” Peter Pettigrew yelped in alarm.
“They’re highly intelligent animals!” Lily and Peter shouted in unison.
“Well, whatever,” he sniffed, smoothing out his dress robes. “I suppose it’s a loss.. used sleep next to his bed, near the rabbit… and the cat.”
“OMG!” Lily elbowed him rudely. “The poor guy!”
She straightened her shoulders, took one last forlorn glance at the useless article with the messy hair, took a deep breath, and tapped the himbo on the shoulder. Got to hand it to Evans, she has guts, he thought.
“Hi Alphonsus,” she said, trying to stretch her lips upwards.
“Hello, Miss Evans,” the guy said, looking over her shoulder at Sirius and winking far too dramatically.
He mimed zipping up his mouth and cutting his throat for good measure. Alphonsus frowned but nodded, looking slightly more subdued.
“A dance?” Alphonsus said, giving Lily a pitying look.
“Of course.”
“Smile!” Cressida Creevy waved her arm wildly before taking the shot.
“What the absolute fuck?” James Potter finally asked, gulping down an entire glass of fire whisky in one go and grabbing a second one.
“No idea, old chap,” he said, elegantly sipping some wine and raising the glass at the couple. “I think he fancies her, and nobody asked her, so she said yes. Has a thing for Quidditch players, apparently.”
His friend said nothing, tugged at his bird’s nest hair, and muttering distraught expletives under his breath.
“Why, you weren’t planning on asking Evans, were you? I thought you were, and I quote, just good friends?”
The reply was in gibberish, although in fairness Prongs was choking on his fire whisky at the time.
“All good, so?” he said, whacking Prongs twice on the back for good measure. “Splendid. Well, enjoy the night, they certainly seem to be.”
Alphonsus patted Lily on the shoulder in a comforting fashion as they glided by. She smiled back fondly.
“Probably discussing some personal problems, a problem shared is a problem halved, and all that,” he supplied helpfully.
“Fuckfuckfuck,” Prongs hacked up a lung.
Sirius wandered off. Prongs picked up an entire bottle of fire whisky.
“Parfaitement joué,” Sirius smiled to himself. “And onto plan number two…”

(For @jilytoberfest’s Prompt 16: “I can never hate you.)
“You must hate me,” she said, throwing his mother’s beloved jewellery box into the fire. The material of it frothed and swirled in the heat, melting in almost no time at all.
From the pain Lily felt, she might as well have thrown herself in with it.
“It’s for the best, Lily. We have to get going.”
After her, James threw in his childhood brooms, a few old school books, badly drawn pictures from his infant years. It was as if they were erasing the James Potter of the past 20 years out of existence also, incinerating the remnants of the memories he had made — many they had made together.
“Should we take the sheets at least?” she asked. In her hands was a faded duvet of William Morris print. She held it like one would a newborn baby, cradling it to her chest.
“I— I guess we can if you want, Lily. But there will be sheets there, I think.”
“This was probably where they were conceived,” she mumbled into the fabric, hiding her tears.
Was it so ridiculous to be so attached to an item that only might have significance? Was she really all that sensitive wanting to hold onto something tangible when everything else felt so up in the air?
“Maybe, yeah,” he whispered back softly, embracing her in a tight hug.
He would let her keep it, even though he shouldn’t.
“I’ll burn it,” she decided, tossing it in with the rest of the items.
Magical fire was so much stronger than Muggle fire, and it was gone in an instant.
“We’ll get another. Make new memories. Better memories!” James said into her ear, kissing her gently between each sentence.
Would they? They were being sent away to live in a safe house, their unborn child not even in this world yet and already a destined prisoner. New memories felt inevitable, but could they truly beat the past ones?
“Yeah, that would be nice,” she finally relented, unsure entirely what was hormones and what was reality at this point. “Still most of this is yours, James. The Potters… You’ve had this stuff for centuries?”
Somewhere in the back of her mind, Lily wondered if Petunia truly did sell all her items — “all that nonsense that gets in the way!” — as she had always threatened.
“About time we got some new stuff then, don’t you think?”
Sometimes James Potter was the only thing that kept her from crying every hour of the day.
“Still, you must hate me, James. This is my fault.”
She was the one who had forgotten to take the correct procedures. She was the one who had blabbed about the baby’s due date. She was the one who was stupid enough to think this was a good thing in the middle of a war.
“Don’t you dare! I can never hate you, Lily. Never.”
James tossed in the rest of the items, the place they once called home now well and truly bare.
It was safer this way. The Death Eaters would realise soon, stampede the house soon. It was better the pair got rid of the items than any of them get their hands on them.
Or worse.
“Quite the opposite,” James crooned into the crook of her neck. “I love you, and I love the baby. And this awful, but it is temporary. And… well, let’s treat it like a renewal, yeah?”
“Yeah, yeah. Let’s do that,” she just barely smiled, twisting around and offering him her hand.
He took it.
The clothes on their backs, the bags on their shoulders, the baby and each other were now all they had.
And Lily would cry from time to time, remembering those old items, remembering the significance they represented and how easily they were cut from existence. But the next eighteen months also taught her how little they mattered — how little they, she and James, even mattered — and what mattered instead was the fleeting moments they accumulated around the items, loving and fighting and accepting and just being.
Lily and James’ lives were also fleeting, their time together as a family even more so. Like brittle blossoms in a vast-acred forest, to some it was as if they were barely there at all, barely mattering to the significance of history. But among those who had seen them in their full bloom — in those moments of happiness they spent with their son, through the hope they never relented through it all — it was etched into their very world just how much they mattered, those brave fleeting soldiers of war.
And though the boy could not remember it, it was those brave fleeting soldiers that brought him to the forest again 17 years later, the love — and not the hate — they had given him blazing through his veins.

”Because motherhood is the epitome of womanhood. How could she not?”
The irony aside, what did you expect her to do? Leave Harry by himself? Get a baby sitter? We have no idea if abortion was an option. And we also know nothing about James working and Lily not after Harry was born.
Of course they’re bad ppl. Also good ppl. Like everyone. And Harry realizes that and that’s part of him growing up. He also knows very little of them as do we.
I’m sorry but that post is really reaching. Harry is the focalisator in the series. We regard his parents through him and that’s part of the narration. He’s a kid, even in the seventh book and he idealizes his parents AND he realizes some of their flaws, especially James’ and the other Marauders. But he’s still a kid and he needs to idealize them in order to not fall apart. There’s a reason he brings them back with the stone and not Dumbledore.
Let people write their fanfics and move on with your life kfkkdkdk
I mean, I was absolutely thinking of an abortion, if it got to the point of needing one. Also just using protection (don't tell me wizards don't have magic condoms; they have charms for making magic protective bubbles around their heads, someone absolutely adapted that for putting one around their dicks), until their situation is less 'we might die at any moment'. I know it happens, I'm not saying it's unrealisic, but I do think it was careless of them to bring a baby into that situation.
And my scathing opinion on that point was less for Lily and her choices, and more for the hand behind the curtain, specifically in relation to her TERF sentiments that make such choices about a character feel significantly more sketchy.
I know we know nothing about what Lily did or didn't do for work. If that's your way of saying that James being or wanting to be an Auror is fanon, then that could've been made clearer. As I said, it's been long enough since I read the books that I'm not sure on that point. Perhaps it's more commentary on the fandom than on JKR, but it's still commentary on the ship that there is a pervaisive sense of 'we know what James was doing, professionally' that goes hand in hand with 'we don't know what Lily was doing, professionally' that does imply that Lily's professional life is less important than James's, which is a very stereotypically heteronormative perspective in our culture, and one I don't like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Any in-depth look at Lily and James is going to involve a lot of extrapolation. We, as you say, get very little information about them from the book, because Harry is the point of view character. We also never actually see them and their actions without another character's interpretation in the way. Even when Harry summons them with the stone, there's enough ambiguity about how the stone works that we can't be sure if that's actually their spirits, or if the stone uses Harry's memories/needs/feelings to create them. Even pensieve memories are, of course, someone else's memories, and therefore potentially tainted with that bias.
Yes, of course Harry idealises them. Especially because of how the Dursleys treated him, they became a symbol of a happy loving family to him. That doesn't mean he was right. He's also not the only one. Sirius, Hagrid, and Dumbledore all do it too, to name a few. Severus also idealises Lily, and does the complete opposite to James. There are rose-tinted glasses everywhere when it comes to Lily and James. It makes every single bit of information we get about them unreliable, which means, again, that nearly everything is subject to interpretation.
In my original post, I managed to outline the facts that we know about them and their relationship with one paragraph. That's not a lot of detail to build an in-depth opinion on. If I was reaching with my opinions, then I've gotta say, so is everyone else (who has an opinion on Jily, anyway).
...And, Anon, I never said anying about people not being allowed to write whatever the hell they like. In fact, I've written some things about how much I abhor censorship. If you took my answer to a question about my personal opinion on a ship as a judgement on whether you should enjoy reading or writing that ship or not, I think you need to reflect on why you feel so defensive about it. (Genuinely; I have been there, and I get it.)
Let people write their meta and move on with your life.

what do you think it is that makes James Potter such an attractive character?
Hello anon ❤️
This is such an interesting question! I could say that he's simply described like that and move on, but I think there's so much more to it, to him.
He was a Quidditch player, ruffled his hair, played with the Snitch, had a charming smile... Physically, he was the textbook definition of hot. On the surface he's a reformed bad boy: he used to be a prat but he died as a changed man, a hero... And this is a trope that a lot of us love.
But really?
He's someone who found out his friend was a werewolf at 12 years old and instead of pitying him or, worse, discarding him, he found a solution. He became an animagus at 15, not only breaking the law but risking his own life - it was already a dangerous process, and he did it unsupervised at such a young age - just so that he could make Remus' life a bit easier. You see, James was no stranger to sacrifices. He was like this before Harry.
James gave Sirius a home and a family when he lost both in one fell swoop, and he forgave Sirius' prank on Snape: he had a big heart, had a lot of love to give.
I'm in no way excusing his mistakes; but I think that even though we mostly got to know him through other people's eyes, it doesn't mean that he's any less interesting.
I think we find him attractive because he was a great friend. He was exactly what they needed: a brother for Sirius, an ally for Remus, an inspiration for Peter. I think his dedication to his friends is one of his best traits: personally, it's exactly the thing I look for in people in real life.
He was smart: he was a Transfiguration prodigy and he became Head Boy, which didn't necessarily require good marks as far as I'm aware, but if he was chosen it meant that Dumbledore knew he would take it seriously.
His relationship with Lily... We don't know enough about them, except for the fact that they rowed a lot, then finally made up, slowly became friends and, eventually, lovers.
I also believe that, no matter how many fix-it fics we read, no matter how many times we see him survive in other AUs, there's still an ache in our hearts when we think about him. He was doomed from the start, which makes his life even more meaningful. Not only that, but he died young. Awfully young. Twenty-one. I think about him and then I think about me at that age and... He shouldn't have seen any of those horrors.
We mourn the person he could have been. He's forever young, forever immortalised in his last moments as he bravely faces death and makes the ultimate sacrifice.
People have always been fascinated by great people who tragically died young. Heath Ledger, John Lennon (though the latter wasn't exactly young, he wasn't old either), or even the 27 Club: Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse and many more. These people died at the height of their fame; over time we tend to see them as more than human, almost god-like figures that have graced us with their presence on earth. I think we feel a bit like that towards James sometimes. He will never be older than twenty-one, he will never make mistakes as a father, husband or friend. And it is as heartbreaking as it is frustrating.
There's something about his potential as a character. Layered, interesting, captivating... He would have been important not because he was Harry's father, but because he was James.
However, one of the main reasons we love him so much - I know, this reply hasn't been about him being attractive for a while now - is because out of the four Marauders, he's the one we know the least about. It would make sense if we didn't get attached to him. Many people do not, in fact, like him. But we do and it's because he is, in many ways, a blank slate. He can be whoever we want, and that's so liberating! We can project our fears, dreams, insecurities onto him. It's both stimulating and cathartic. James has a freedom that other characters (Harry, for example) don't have. Even in canon compliant fics, James can be many different people and still have the core values that we know and love.
Despite this reply being very long, I don't think I fully conveyed why I like him so much. I'm not very good with words these days and there are things that I can't really put into words. There's a lot more I'd like to say about him but I'd like to see someone else's take on this! So please feel free to add more ❤️
Thank you for this wonderful question you made my day, seriously!

These fics are set in the wizarding world but aren’t necessarily canon complaints.
For reference, anything in italics is taken from the summaries on ao3.

Beneath her jumper, her heart was fluttering fast. Her free hand rubbed at the spot, willing it to calm. Her eyes ached from all the nights she spent awake, unable to sleep because it hadn’t calmed in days. Weeks.
She knew why; beneath her fingertips, under the soft cotton of her sweater, her skin tingled. She knew without seeing that the spot above her heart sparkled faintly with gold, like stars spinning in the cosmos. Scattered and dancing around a name that wouldn't quite focus. It was as beautiful as it was terrifying.
Someone, somewhere, was falling in love with her. They were close enough that Lily could feel a tug of alignment if she concentrated enough.
Or, Lily and James go on a walk in the forest.

Mr. and Mrs. Evans are killed when Lily's only a girl, and she's supposed to go to a home with her sister. Instead, a relative they didn't know they had comes to collect them, and introduces Lily to manners, magic, and a life that's just the slightest bit different from the life she was supposed to live.
Or, an AU in which Minerva McGonagall raises Lily.
Dying Fires by @jamesunderwater
In fifth year, James attempts to comfort Lily by a dying fire - but finds this will require restraint on his part in a number of ways.
Their tentative, developing friendship is something so special to me

Euphemia cuts Sirius off sharply. “I was simply verifying whether this is indeed the same Lily Evans whose name is written under my dining room table with a heart around it.”
or Lily meets the parents and James tries not to hyperventilate. over and over and over again.
Blue Jay by @neurowriter14
In a world with magic, the only thing that really took Lily by surprise, and trepidation, was the fact that she had a soulmate.
All That's Known by @women-inthe-sequel
Wizards view nearly everything as a problem for magic to fix. Other people might view him that way, but James has never felt broken. He doesn’t need to be wound like an old-fashion toy and programmed to do what everyone else does.

just like a tattoo by sleepygirl0305 (on ao3)
Shortly after he witnesses Remus and Sirius realize that they're soulmates, James gets his own soulmate tattoo. A fairly inconvenient time, given that there is a war going on. And N.E.W.Ts. But no matter, he was going to try anyway.

I know that this is a very cliché trope but I'm a sucker for patronus fics.
The Boy (in the bedroom) Next Door by @eastwindmlk
Lily Evans has to move in with her new potion's teacher to finish her apprenticeship. There is one small issue, said teacher? Fleamont Potter, father of infinitely annoying and frustratingly fit former rival James Potter. Who she has not seen after leaving Hogwarts after her third year.

She glanced up, catching sight of Mary and Marlene in the crowd of unsorted first years, the both of them bouncing on their toes as a new student was called up. She’d already made two friends (she hoped) and Lily was always a bit of an overachiever. “Hiya,” she said, doing her best to sound upbeat. The boy—Lupin—looked up at her, face a bit shocked. “I’m Lily.”
or sixth year, a bad pick-up line, and a secret.
Not really a jily fic (it's pre-relationship) but I really wanted to include it in this rec list
Accidental Magic by @missgryffin
What else is there to do after confessing feelings in the middle of the night than spend a lazy Saturday in bed?
Hell Is Empty (And All The Devils Are Here) by @nodirectionhome-ao3
When an Order mission takes an unexpected turn, James and Lily find themselves stranded together. In the aftermath of the chaos, sheltering together through the storm, a fire catches between them.
Ignore the fact that I can't remember if I've recommended this fic or not. Regardless, the back-and-forth between James and Lily is so good in this fic.
Starlight by @suzyq31
Under the cover of stars, Lily and James go out in search of an elusive flower. The northern lights make Lily contemplate how plans change.
The next few fics are all by @apalapucian because I may or may not have been stalking her ao3 page. Everything, and I mean everything, Jayne writes is incredible.
maybe it was egos swinging (maybe it was her)
James starts rolling his shoulders, wincing. "Jesus, Evans." "back at ya," says Lily, testing her wrists. "ever heard of taking it easy?" "with you? never." "can’t believe you’d use confringo on me." "knew you'd block it," he says. "can’t believe you’d use depulso." she shrugs, grinning. "knew you'd block it."
(or: seventh-year, auror-aspirant, academic rivals, head boy and head girl James and Lily.)
I still can't get over the fact that Jayne wrote me over 11 thousand words of academic rivals jily. ELEVEN THOUSAND WORDS OF ACADEMIC RIVALS TO LOVERS JILY!! The banter, the stakes, I love everything about this fic
calliope calling
in which:
James wields a wand for the first time; Lily giggles, tracing an impossible dancing deer in the sky; Sirius slams the door; Peter sighs; and Remus screams, raw and screeching and piercingly young.
(or: the marauders and lily evans as children, and something about invisible strings glinting in the moonlight.)
green light
There are yellow roses on the kitchen table. a cup of coffee charmed to keep warm for a time. a scrawled "morning! :) –James & Harry" on a scrap of paper, the torn bottom of a receipt for... milk, she finds. and strawberries. harry was signed by Harry himself, and Lily wants to cry at the shaky strokes, the crooked lines. she can hear them in the other room where James' window seat project is almost finished. harry is laughing. he asks questions, mocks his dad's shabby handiwork, drops the things he's asked to hand.
roses and handwritten notes and coffee and giggles nearby. this is her life now. she skims the flowers, the sun itself in her heart.
or: the war is over. everybody lives AU. (well, not everybody everybody, but the potter family + sirius + remus + even peter* live.) old fic rewrite.
* = you'll see.
bad day wall
Lily calls it the bad day wall. it's like this weird communal one-liner diary thing.
every time i think i'm over her something happens and it hits me just as stupidly intense as all the other times. i'm SICK of it
why can't people just LIKE by default the people they LOVE? why do they have to be separate feelings? it would make things so much less complicated
or: in sixth year, Lily starts talking to a stranger(?) through messages on a wall. she also befriends James Potter. These two things are completely not related.
I haven't read this one but it on my marked for later

Those Smitten Idiots
Tumblr media
Prompt#1
Prompt #2: “you didn’t have to do this” and ash
James threw back his head and felt the bitter whisky burn the back of his throat. He grimaced. Lily Evans was dancing with Diggory. Lily Evans who allegedly had a thing for Quidditch players. Well, obviously not all Quidditch players…
He looked back down at his empty tumbler glass and sighed quietly. They were in sixth year, and it was high time he forgot about Lily and moved on. At least he hadn’t said anything. Aside from that one horrifically awful time in fifth year when -
“Ugh!” he said, shutting his eyes tightly and reaching for more fire whisky.
Diggory and Evans waltzed by. Her cobalt blue dress swished past his legs, her auburn waves shimmered in the candlelight, Diggory gave one of his signature laughs - the one that made him sound like a duck. James’ eyebrows knotted in confusion.
“Why Diggory?” he muttered to himself.
“Because he asked?”
Remus Lupin leaned against the wall behind him, looking tired but relaxed.
“It’s not that simple,” he said, throwing his hands in the air helplessly. “It’s not a case of…”
Too much is at stake, I can’t just…
“I think you’ll find it is,” Remus hummed.
Remus was very annoying today.
“It’s extremely easy,” Pettigrew added, pouring himself a generous helping of Vela champagne.
Peter was worse.
“Look here, old chaps, this isn’t some girl I want to.. what I mean is… it’s Evans.”
“Ah yes, the wit, the clarity of explanation, the precise logic- “
Padfoot was absolutely infuriating tonight. He’d a good mind to kick his arse.
“You didn’t have to do this,” he waved his arms around at his friends crossly. “I was having a perfectly shitty time, without you all making it worse.”
“Oh. So it’s our fault now, is it?” Sirius said, arching his left eyebrow. “Dear me, and here was I thinking that you were the sole architect of your own downfa- “
“Shut up!” he growled, grabbed the bottle of fire whisky and shoved more alcohol down his neck.
It tasted like ash.
(I’m mixing various prompts for jilytober, hopefully it will work out😬🤣!)

A few years ago I read this really weird fic. It was endgame Jily so I was really excited about it but then they DIED. And everyone thought Sirius was responsible so he went to jail even though we all know Sirius and James are too codependent for Sirius to have helped in his murder.
Marlene and Mary are mentioned maybe twice, Jegulus never happens and you think that there’s Wolfstar but this Sirius gets killed by BELLATRIX and like a year later Remus marries Andromeda’s daughter! That was weird.
Dorcas, Pandora, and Evan are only briefly mentioned too. That means that there’s no Dorlene which was a nightmare. They let Snape be a teacher which was a horrible idea. Also Regulus is literally drowned and then completely forgotten about which was wild.
Barty is actually in it a bit but most of that is while he’s using poly juice to look like mad-eye? Like babes that’s the guy who killed your bf what were you thinking? Also Barty is mildly evil and kills his dad and he also helps torture Alice and Frank into insanity. So yeah.
It was a next gen fic so the main character was James and Lily’s son.
Overall it was just a bit of a stretch for me
Also Peter was evil.
