hii im suuper late to my own week ik (i'll post the rest of the days from time to time, college applications were a pain </3 but i've got most of it down
This piece is a redraw of my very first post ! This has been a wip since the start of the year so my art style unsurprisingly changed a bunch as i tweaked the lines and colors. it's not the best but it's looking as good as it can be!
as for the zine, people are free to draw up pieces for the week up until the end of september and we can compile it all together! it's not really the usual zine format but who knows.. we can maybe try to figure out a way to formally start a more structured zine project for these two
Anyway! I've decided to dedicate my greenflower week posts to my headcanons I've made up for them from the past 4 years.. I figured you guys could take a peek into my brain since I haven't really been good at that unless you catch me in a vc :") there's a buncha hcs and old ass art i never posted finally unearthing under the cut if you wanna take a peek
So, first thing: Body headcanons..
i took super long getting what i want with this waay back when I started posting cause I was still figuring out a lot with my art. i couldn't get in good details/features that would properly differentiate them or make them fun to draw. I wasn't striving to be really innovative with the designs or anything, I just wanted them to feel like characters I like looking at and thinking about
finally, i'm somewhat able to settle on these as of right now! It will most likely update as the time passes and my art changes, but this is what I got!

basically the main idea is that i wanted Lloyd to be bulkier but sharper. grew up fast and has all these edges, but then you get to know him and he's just a big ol dork. Mostly wears loose-fitting clothes that hides his figure, but he's quite built underneath

Brad's a lil taller and pretty lanky. my art style may not be able to show that properly but lloyd can snap him in half <3 he also seems hella chill but that's probably cause he got balls of steel after living through a million ninjago invasions

This thing below is an old outfit concept I have for a project that I've been working on. does not reflect my current headcanons with his physical appearance but i do like his clothes
I think he loves his role as the green ninja, saving the world and such. it came with lots of baggage and reflection but i do promise that he enjoys it for the most part. I think him wearing green is kind of like wearing work clothes so he tends to avoid it on days when he's free to keep from being too ready to jump into ninja mode

The big art post !! the behind-the-scenes of the tribalhunter PNGtuber stuff ! At least on the art side-- I can talk about the coding mechanics but that's not quite my place to. The high-level overview of that is there's some cool stuff going on with memory wrappers and godot to get stuff shake'n and jamm'n The rest of it is below the cut just so you don't have to scroll tons if you don't care, but take some time and read !! 3 days of work y'know !!

The first sketches were started at 10 pm tuesday the 15th. I tweaked it with some edits until about 1 am

For people working on pngs or long term projects -- make notes !! genuinely !! you can see "ok what was i thinking when i did this" and it made like infinitely easier. You might notice that stage 2 png was not long for this world -- we ended up cutting that one and shifting 3-5 down a stage, and just making a larger final stage. The night ended with: these!

Wednesday I got to work
on some second pass ones, e.g., cleaner lineart. Mind you, not final! To have proper safespace with the png we had to make actual layered sections to avoid ripped seams on squashing and stretching and rotating and etc.

These also had the first of the talk sprites! I don't do entirely new sprites for the talking ones just because of the pure quantity of images. So, just an arm tilt and head angling. This means we have mute and a talk variants of a few sprites (e.g., the stage 1 is 3 sprites. Body, scarf flappies, and head. We have talk versions of the body and the head). Also, he used to have nips! there was going to be a slightly darker purple but we scrapped it for . well . obvious reasons. We went with classy scarf modesty.

This was the first one sent -- showing off the layers. Tip, I used to layer based on like "back arm" "head" "fore body" etc. It's weirder to get used to when you use numbered layers, but holy shit it made importing easier. You automatically know the layer order to put them in to avoid clipping. Getting these done I got to work on testing 'em too!

this gave us our first working model! Oh, he used to have black robes too! this was to match the custom ingame sprites he got, but the color wasn't quite popping enough. The scarf saturation would later be turned up too, and more color adjusting. But this was workable! A lovely demo. All that was left was design tweaks and the talk sprites!
Friday was dedicated to
figuring out the colors and the talk sprites. For giggles, here's a bunch of variants produced!

We changed the robes, the scarf tone, and his lower gradient. neat Brave fact, his design has a gradient! It's horrible for gif compression! With all that done, then came doing well . all of the sprites!

Note, the talk sprites had some copied mute ones for visual reference. Gotta be consistent! It was at this point the pngtuber was "done", so to speak. Talk sprites worked and everything uh . jiggled right. But I still had a whole weekend! There wasn't as much photo evidence. What WAS changed between then and the final was: 1) the gradient was shifted to be a smooth curve instead of dappling 2) the talk sprite for stage 5's beak was fixed to remove a tangent line 3) the belly for stage 5 was rounded out to be more consistent with the game (less "doughy" to quote) 4) we added another sprite for the arm on stage 5 to layer better. Those changes weren't done until about Saturday, and then the code was tweaked all the way up until adding damage and transition effects on sunday and monday!

P.S., the model still clipped in the end a little! The code did some growth based on the fullness factor and . uh. wow!

Anway woo !! that was some wip photos and stories, I wish there was more of an intense struggle to tell but it was pretty quickly done. My shoulderblade hurts a bit to tell the truth and I think I overdid it on the pace but hooray!

Hiya! I was wondering if you’d been having any luck making the Cats Among Wolves bunnies cooperate lately? If not, that’s cool. Plot bunnies are not the most cooperative creatures, but I figured I’d ask. I was also curious about what the writing process usually looks like for you if you were willing to explain it a bit. Do you tend to jump around between projects just following the inspiration, or do you write out at least a whole scene or chapter before letting yourself move around? How many times do you usually send a fic to Rose for betaing before you feel ready to release it? I always find different people’s processes so interesting.
So Cats Among Wolves is mostly not cooperating at the moment - I am weirdly low on Brain and the bunnies are not doing long-form very well just now. But here's a snippet from the Cedric & Axel fic:
Fuck, this is good, Cedric opines, sipping greedily at the soup Gaetan is holding for him. “The old Wolf knows his way around a kitchen,” Gaetan agrees, nodding. “I think I gained most of a stone the first winter I spent here.” “You needed it,” Eskel puts in. “All you Cats are too damn scrawny.” “Wolves are just absurdly big,” Gaetan sniffs. “And what are Vipers, then?” Eskel - teases. And Gaetan is grinning. Axel has never seen Gaetan so relaxed around an alpha before. Not even Cedric. But there’s not even a hint of tension in his littlest brother. He’s utterly unafraid. “Vipers are mostly perfectly normal sizes, Letho’s just special,” Gaetan says cheerfully. Letho smirks.
As to my writing process - oh gods, it's like a pogo stick. I often have eight or ten docs open, and I create a new WIP at least three times a week. (I am very easy to plotbunny. And I am surrounded by enablers.) I write until I get stuck and then I go to something else. Sometimes, if something really grabs me, I can get a whole longfic out in a week; sometimes I have to come back to it again and again until it clicks. My personal feeling is that as long as words are ending up in a row, it's all good.
I don't outline. Outlines kill fic for me. Once I've written down what's going to happen, why bother writing it again? Even for something like MBtT, I had the very loosest possible sketch of the plot and the desired relationships. I also can't estimate how long a fic is going to be to save my life. I thought MBtT was going to be 50K. I have to very deliberately keep from putting plot into things like prompt fills and flash fics, because once I've added plot, that fic isn't getting done in less than 10K.
I usually send the fic to Rose when it's completely done, and then do a pass through it once she's left comments, fixing all the plot holes she finds. Then she checks my work and I put it in the posting queue.
One thing I have found that helps me is that I color-code my docs. Blue is in progress, purple is ready for beta, and green is ready to be posted. It makes it easier for me to track things visually.
The other thing that really helps is cheer-readers. Because I try to only post finished fics, sometimes I'll start wondering if what I'm writing is really any good. Rose and Twist and Ray have all been wonderful at Encouraging me enthusiastically to keep going, and suggesting directions when I get stuck. Cheer-readers are great and I encourage writers to find them if they can.

Progress Report April 2025
Pfff~ April went by pretty fast. Aaaand go:
My webcomic, Twisted Play:
Chapter 2. 1 part 2 is, yes, still in the works. Still working on the line art. In between preparing said line art I changed up a few things about the initial sketch for it and actually ended up putting a few more panels in between. As of right now, I'm about 50% finished with the lineart.
I was hoping to get more done till May, but seeing all of the plans my job and private life has ready for me in May...it'll likely be June or, god forbid, July till I finish the line art. Rather giving a cautious prognosis instead of assuring it'll absolutely be finished in May. It's not impossible, but unlikely to happen. *ugly crying*
Did some more smaller dialogue changes to chapter 2.1. part 2. Nothing big.
Also this time, heres a few of the line art panels for part 2. (They're all color-coded, since that's my usual way of dividing the layers. Obv the final line art will be black.):

The "Turn in the dark"/"Tourner dans le vide" animation ft. Chiron is coming along nicely. I've been working on it quite a bit in between and now reached the halfway point.

I- uh, also did 2 sketch versions of 2 more animations I wanna work on some time. It's unclear when that happens and ofc I want to finish the Chiron animation first. So these 2 will sit there and wait a while. And as for YOU: have an excerpt of one of these sketch versions. Thought I could spice things up a bit by showing some behind-the-scenes stuff. In this case...my messy af sketch versions that I make to get future me to remember what I'm even trying to do. Keep in mind: it's not the full sketch version, just a part of it. It's also subject to change, depending on me and my silly ideas showing up unpredictably. Plus, the text you occasionally get to see in these? Don't bother trying to read those. I'll need to believe you're some kind of alien if you can faultlessly decipher my messy notes in full.
1) "Panic animation": Something of a prequel to the "Turn in the dark" animation currently in progress ft. mainly (younger) Chiron and his connection to the ARCC, as well as Chouwa freeing him from the server system of the ARCC he's been locked up in before she got there. Here's the sketch version excerpt I promised:
2) "Miss me?" animation: Randomly sat there listening to music and actually came across a song that doesn't just fit Kaname but also Chiron. That's not easy for me to find. They're different in many ways. This animation actually references an upcoming scene that'll (likely, depending on upcoming re-writes) happen somewhere in chapter 3. Short version of it all is that Kaname isn't very happy to meet her dear twin brother who she hasn't seen for over a decade. Wonder why... (would've posted the sketch video here too but apparently only one is allowed per post, so perhaps showing you this one next month.)
Every other animation WIP hasn't been touched on this month.
Miscellaneous:
Easter art of Chiron and Kaname as bunnies drinking water in their own ways. There's...honestly not much else to say about this one other than it was a cute little side piece to work on.

What I wanna say is: the May progress report may be pretty short compared to the ones I did up until now. Keyword being "may". Knowing me, I'll likely still find a way to keep up with my art even if I'm exhausted to hell and back. Cuz obviously, working on my art helps me unwind.

Hi, friend! Thank you oh so kindly for the ask <3
#26: Do you ever “prep” your fics with outlines or warmups before you start writing, or do you just dive right in?
If we’re being completely honest, it depends from fic to fic, but mostly: no, I don't really go through all of that before I start writing. I try to, especially with outlines, but realistically in the past year the only fics that ended up getting published were somewhere more towards the "dive right in" side of the spectrum, with some light structure beats sketched out before hand. I only ever laid out one fic in meticulous, color-coded detail, and I haven’t updated that one in over a year because, well: through the power of prep I also realized that I want to change every single thing about it and that drove me into, for a lack of a better name for it, some kind of useless writer identity crisis/creative block.
Which is both a blessing and a curse, because it made me realize that I'm usually an atmosphere & character study-oriented writer, and those things are where I always start from when I get inspired to write. The flip side of that is that I struggle with plot quite a bit, so outlines and beat sheets are a useful tool to figure out what I want and don’t want happening and where the holes are in the long run. At the same time, there’s a real risk of them ending up a procrastination crutch if I get too caught up in them as opposed to the actual writing, which has happened quite a few times. So it’s an interesting balance I’ve yet to strike.
Am trying to make it a habit with newer WIPs, though, and it's kind of going hand in hand with the whole "there's no rush!!! but also you need to get organized at least!!!" thing I'm trying to drill into my brain. So that's something.
#28: What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever come up with?
Ah, okay, so: I’d say my pure angst for the sake of angst! levels have toned down a bit since I originally started writing fic, and thank god for that. I’ve also never really been a no way out/“punishing” angst writer. It’s just not my speed, and I kind of tried to set a rule/challenge to myself a while back where all the angst I write has to play some kind of tangible role, either in character or plot motivation.
All of that said, I do think most of the fic writing I do is, well—if not downright angsty, then definitely somewhat melancholy as a baseline. In general I think my angstiest stuff usually boils down to writing either a) dream-like, sometimes disturbing sequences that prominently feature characters’ fears and/or mistrust in reality or their own judgement, which often lends itself to a lot of grim Winter Soldier/Red Room (amongst other things) scenes, b) relationships between good, well-intentioned people who still keep fucking up repeatedly and things not getting better for a long time before they do, or c) repressed grief/depression, survivor’s guilt and suicidal ideation, which, well. Haaaaave you met Steve Rogers? Or any of them, for that matter.
I will say that out of the things I've published, the ones that took the most out of me to write were a nightmare sequence of Bucky's immediately post-CATWS and an interaction with his hallucinated "other self" in it's never over (hey orpheus), and possibly more than that the entirety of moving like a river of trouble crossing, which is a non-explicit nor romantic and yet still pretty deeply fucked up (or at the very least sad, at least for me) Steve/Rumlow fic.
I think that specific detached, aimless space 2012!Steve exists in (and to a degree, post-CATWS Bucky does too) is my angst jam—which is a horrible expression, sorry—as opposed to any plot-related angst, which I suck at.
On the not published front, I just wrote something about Bucky's relationship with his dad and how that affects him post-Kreischberg, which was. Well. Not a picnic, either.
#30: Have you noticed your style change over time?
Oh, for sure! I think some of it is a conscious effort (how the hell do I write more concisely being one goal, and also, what the hell do people do with their bodies or notice around them in between speaking) and some of it just happened the more I kept writing and reading other things. It’s also another thing that varies fic to fic and tone to tone—I’d say the way I write humorous situations and dialogue has changed much less drastically than the way I write drama, for example.

From the wip list tag game: I gotta know, what is "The New Magicians" series about?
YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW EXCITED I AM TO TALK ABOUT THIS
Okay okay so. Context: When I was in 5th grade, I had a really distinct way of doing warm-up drawings, where I would scribble all over the page and then find figures in the lines and color them. During this, I somehow wound up with 4 characters that kept appearing in these warm-ups.
So I started drawing them more and more, and eventually these random doodles spawned a story in my head. Also, I was dedicated to the idea for making books targeted for my age group that were also not as "easy" to read (I was a very pretentious child, if you can't tell). But I wanted them older because I was sick of protags that were ten years old. SO I MADE THEM 14 YEARS OLD.
Anyways, this series has evolved into a story that is near and dear to my heart. The three MCs are still 14 years old (one just turned 15), but the story follows them as they start high school and adjust to that reality as well as being constantly summoned to the world on the other side of the curtain where magic is the norm.
(I'll go more in depth below the cut, if this sounds at all interesting. Also there are a lot of extreme spoilers down there just because yes. It's a fantasy story and them discovering magic isn't really a twist at this point haha)
The main characters are Cori Whimsinberg (she/her, 14 y/o), Esmee Platt (she/her, 15 y/o), and Trevelle Wickerson (she/her, 14 y/o). I have not drawn them in FOREVER but here's a really old ref I made:

The story basically kicks off when Cori finds (and puts on) a cursed ring. This triggers her magic early, and she grows fairy wings (I swear this has proper lore to explain it), which in turn also triggers an early manifestation of Trevelle's magic. Esmee, feeling left out (as she has since the beginning because Cori and Trev have known each other since they were toddlers while they just met Esmee) has a bit of a meltdown and winds up getting accidentally kidnapped by an evil enchantress.
AND THEY ALL END UP SEPARATED IN THE MAGICAL WORLD! And so our side characters come in.
Cori meets a shapeshifter named Pachir (she/he/it, 14 y/o), Trevelle meets a sprite named Cythis (he/him, 15 y/o), and Esmee meets a Merrow creature named Karales (he/him, 168 y/o). They also get help from another shapeshifter named Knem (he/him, 18 y/o). (Pachir is the 4th character that kept appearing in my warm-up doodles.)
And then of course things get chaotic. But, as the hero's journey dictates, they all get back home safely until the start of the next book in the story.
One of the reasons this story is still so near to my heart is that these were technically my first OCs. My first written stories were about them. Everything started with them.
Also, the story has a lot of rep that I wasn't seeing at all in the stories I read back when I created these characters. Esmee's dad and brother are Deaf, so she knows ASL. Cori lives with her single mom after her dad passed, and the story does talk about this grief processing that she has been going through. Trevelle is a "tomboy" character and she is faced with a lot of challenges when high school starts and she is stuck on that gender divide. Cythis's parents are divorced, and he has to deal with that stigma in his culture.
When I revisited the story and was rewriting things around the time I was figuring out my identity, it occurred to me how much ace coding I had put into this story, as well as neurodivergent coding. This story helped me understand a lot about myself when I realized that there was only 1 (very forced) romantic subplot. I've kept that subplot because it explores other things I want to explore.
ANYWAYS! I'd happily talk more about these character but my break is almost over and I've gotta go give a presentation for a class. Here's a bonus for reading this far:

2024 Celebration and Recap!
I have never been so excited to celebrate the end of a year. 2024 was far and away the most challenging year of my life, and there is an ENORMOUS amount to show for it!😤
In addition to the strides made with the demo's development for Catalyst: Blind Faith, hundreds of thousands of words written and edited for the full game, and a staggering amount of progress on art and animations, we've had an avalanche of community support. MANY innovations in accessibility were made possible by the Ren'Py community and our Discord's killer members too!
It took me several days just to organize this recap, due to the astonishing amount that was accomplished. I could not have done a fraction of this much work without the love and support of my partner and CBF's producer (I love you Gob <3), the entirety of the legends in Just Write Studios, and all of you who have been cheering development on!!
We'll be celebrating in the community Discord on January 3rd to bring in the New Year! Whether or not you can join us then, I hope you have had happy holidays and are just as excited for 2025 as I am.

🙏 Concepts for every deity's CG in the pantheon are a WIP, I am fighting god to not spoil anything but I am very excited 🙏

MENUS AND ACCESSIBILITY

The photosensitivity splash screen has been replaced with the Options screen immediately displaying upon first starting the game. This immediate prompt only shows when first starting the game, but the Options screen can be accessed by players from any screen at any time.
A huge visual overhaul of the Options screen and navigation has been made to improve colors, icons, and its layout for maximum clarity!

The Ren'Py Default Accessibility menu has been given a complete style overhaul, massively clarifying features. It also now matches the other menus in Catalyst: Blind Faith. 💖

Created a color picker for the high contrast text feature, with the incredible help of the Ren'Py community. This innovation in accessibility was a multi-week endeavor, that now allows players to choose their font color and contrasting background in real time, all without restarting the game!

The Content Warning, Autosave Preference, and Saves Unlocked screens have had their verbiage updated for clarity and brevity! They are also presented entirely with code, making it (and all other menus) compatible with screen readers and all other accessibility settings!

I've replaced 13 flat images used as placeholders for the chapter title screens with final code! This freed up a whopping 10MB by removing those placeholders.
Now I can display all chapter numbers, titles, and subtitles in any combination with smart interpolation of variables in parameterized text!!!
What this means for players is regardless of how you progress through the game, your chapter numbers will always accurately count up – and if any wacky time travel stuff is involved, it accounts for that neatly too!
The text in-engine also just looks so much nicer aaaa

Text tags (bold, italics, underline, etc.) now render on the History screen!
The timelapse from the prologue also now populates in the History menu!
ADDITIONALLY✨
The main menu's layout and positioning is complete! A total overhaul has been done to its buttons and animations, freeing up even MORE placeholders.
Complete revamp of the Gallery is done, using the Multi-Touch Zoom Gallery code by Feniks!
Custom navigation for the gallery has separate sections for Places, Characters, Gods, Demons, and Demo Endings.
New features in the Gallery include improved navigation, zoom (with mouse, keyboard, gamepad, or touchscreen), rotate, and a timed slideshow with auto-play.
The "Momentos" category has been cut from the gallery, as key item acquisition is now handled with the in-game screen signifying their narrative importance. They populate in the Inventory tab of the Journal menu for reference.

Greatly improved clarity on all assets! Tons of care put into improved ease of navigation! I spent weeks on finalizing the UI design!!!! 🧠🧠🧠🧠
Navigation is now in alphabetical order, with all tabs spelled out (rather than using images alone for deities).
Bug fixed, by adding a named but previously missing asset related to events with the Goddess of Time.
The bookmarks, sub-menus, scrollbars, and all pages now remember where you last left off too. It feels amaziiiiiing

A hover image has been added for the inventory with its final asset! This really helps with controllers especially, for clarity and ease of navigation.

Isometric maps are complete too! Art, their modular nature (areas you have unlocked are the ones that are displayed), and the final code!
The code has been so massively streamlined, I removed 28 redundant lines of code and 1.54MB of images! 💪

The Hover Hand™ has been programmed!
Upon hovering over the first page of any deity's section of the Journal, a shadow will appear of the MC's hand with a nice animation.
The appearance of the hand can change depending on if the player's choice have caused the MC to lose a ton of blood (a little shaky), if he bulks up, different poses to reflect extreme emotional states, etc.
The art asset of his hand will be updated with its final visuals to reflect the MC’s lanky physical appearance before our next build!

A new "Find Reflection" feature is now available at specific, story-appropriate moments!!!! Catalyst: Blind Faith is seen through his eyes, so this is so you can view his reflection in appropriate nearby surfaces when it makes sense to.

Just like how the “Find Reflection” feature reflects the MC’s current appearance, his appearance reflects your choices. (Please take good care of him 🫶)
FITTING ROOM
Just for fun (this has no effect on the in-game appearance of our MC, as that would be changing continuity and wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense lol), we have a cosmetic image viewer!
You can view appearances you have unlocked from any playthrough in this demo screen, the "Fitting Room," on the main menu.
This feature is a WIP. A demo version will be available in the upcoming build!
ITEMS OBTAINED SCREEN

Upon acquiring story-significant items, a new screen now displays!
This screen for obtaining items contains an image of the item in question, its name, a description, and accompanying SFX.
Items seen in this fashion always populate in the “Inventory” section of the player’s journal, along with its flavor text.
WRITING

Editing has been completed on all demo chapters! 🎉 The demo script's 46,000+ words across all 13 potential chapters is now 100% complete, with no edits required for future updates or the full game!
The player’s service dog and best friend, Ray, has had his design finalized! New content has been added to 8 separate chapters across many individual scenes in the demo alone to account for the spiked collar that this colossal English mastiff wears.
The structural and continuity considerations for those edits were so extensive that I wrote a devlog about it earlier this year! Achievement names for each demo ending have been revamped, thanks to our Official Discord Community’s votes!
Our itch.io page and the game's description have been updated!
The most intense sequences of body horror throughout the trunk of the story (a WHOPPING 130+ chapters) were evaluated for sensitivity concerns and authentic portrayals of body horror and its psychological ramifications!
4 months were spent on that sensitivity editing, with the incredible review by our lead editor and a team of sensitivity readers, bringing the heart of the story to ~95% completion. Only a few niche combinations of those events remain to be written!

Embarking on writing the darkest content in the game – a route where you pursue your relationship with the God of Vengeance above all others - has taken LEAPS AND BOUNDS longer than anything else I've ever done.
It should come as no surprise that writing such serious content with the gravity and care it deserves has been far from a solo endeavor! 💪

🗣️Talk about your favourite WIP
I don't think I have a favorite because I love all of them, but since I picked one for the next question, I'll mention another one here. For this one I only have sketches, not even a pencil draft for a comic or a colored drawing, but I have put a lot of thought in it. It's a sanegiyuu high school AU! Sanemi is a feared student because of his looks, while Giyuu is a member of the Disciplinary Committee (and is also a little feared). Sanemi thinks Giyuu doesn't like him because he is always after him for violating the dress code. So, one day when Giyuu approaches Sanemi and asks to meet after school, Sanemi is sure it's for a fight. Turns out... Giyuu confesses to him! Sanemi thinks it's a prank, but soon realizes that Giyuu is being honest. Giyuu is not asking for an answer, he just wants the chance to get to know him. Sanemi would've never thought that Giyuu would want to get close to him, but he doesn't think Giyuu means any harm, so he agrees. Thus starts the slow way to a young romance.
The whole idea is full of fluff and shenaningans, especially having Sabito and Masachika as Giyuu's and Sanemi's best friends and wingmen, respectively. My inspiration was Sasaki to Miyano. It gets all of the best chessy troopes.
💗Is there a scene you can’t wait to write draw for a WIP?
YES. One of my longest WIPs is the everybody-lived, giyushino AU, where they start their romance after the end of the manga. They are very clumsy and slow, but they eventually get to form a family together. I picture Giyuu as a man who tells silly dad jokes with a straight face (that often makes people miss it or wonder if he is actually trying to crack a joke). So there's this scene where he is marking his child's (who is like 4 years old) height on a pillar and he goes, "Oh, look, you're almost as tall as your mother" which grants him a smack on the head from Shinobu.

Progress Update: Silence to the Eyes
Well! The new year is upon us, and as you have probably noticed, the game is not done. I'm disappointed, but I can also confidently say that it's not all my fault given what a year I've had. Still, one of my New Year's resolutions is to finish this game before 2024, so I wanted to share some of my progress on this point.
Art

I've made a lot of art progress! with the caveat that it's been a lot of progress considering I've had serious wrist pain issues throughout the year. The character portraits are all sketched up, and by now most of them have been fully lined, colored and shaded.
I've also been working on the in-game illustrations, though these are all rough WIPs and I have several more to draw.

I have roughly worked on the misc art needed like interface (I redrew the text box finally dfgkdsfk) but it's not really done. And in terms of backgrounds, I'm not the one making them so I don't really have to worry about it.
Looking at all that, I don't know what percentage of the art I'm done with, but I do thing I've made enough progress that I can reasonably finish before 2024.
Writing
In terms of the main story, I have what I consider a rough draft written up across all chapters of the game, with most of the chapters being roughly complete. The last chapter has some holes in it, but it's also meant to be the shortest chapter. Taking into account filling the gaps and doing revisions, I'd say I'm 1/3 of the way done on it.
In terms of the "side quests" for each chapter, I've got most of them fleshed out in terms of how the details are meant to go, but few of them have actually been written into the game (and of the ones that have, they are not complete.) So I've got a ways to go on those...
Music
I have made next to no progress on the soundtrack for this game. But I'm not super broken up about that, since as I recall that was one of the last things I finished on the last game. There's a few WIPs for important tracks, and I've been compiling a list of the sound effects I'll require in the future--obtaining them is the easiest part.
So yeah, not a lot of progress, but I think that once I get around to this I will be able to get through it relatively fast.
Misc
I learned a couple coding things this year, so that's neat! Mainly how to do character callbacks, but still.
In the future, I'm hoping to learn a more efficient way to code in a working inventory as well. The one I have in the demo is just a series of imagemaps, which I'm not averse to doing if I can't find a better way, but it seems like it could get tedious and complicated very quickly.

So yesssss. It's been slower than I'd like, but there has been progress. And hopefully in 2023, I'll have more of a handle on things and make a ton more. Fingers crossed!

Nope! I keep everything in either Google Docs or Discord :] However I do a lot of concept sketches in a separate sketchbook, it’s much easier to explore character design on paper than digital for me personally
I’d guess that I’m so used to digital being my super polished work while paper is where I do more relaxed stuff, so I can explore more messy/baby concepts on paper
📖- favorite thing about your current wip
Going with DOTS here, I’m really proud of how they’ve developed over the years; I’m happy to be able to develop an original story and really hope I’ll never be called a “ripoff” again
Another thing that’s more development-wise, I’m honestly kind of proud of how I was able to fit a bunch of color-related topics into DOTS’ lore! Primary colors, white light, pigment terminology... all are just basic things you never really think about but actually end up helping the full worldbuilding of DOTS lmao
🔮- what genre do you enjoy writing
Judging by 2/3rds of my major WIPs, I feel like they’re all fantasy stories that look bright and colorful on the surface but end up having darker themes and moments, oops lmao
DOTS’ world is inspired by the world of color, but the things the Paladins go through as well as the full “lore” of the world tends to put DOTS into near existential territory
ETSS’ world could’ve stopped at the massive celestial empires and over-the-top fantasy designs, but it is definitely a darker story where kids go through... well, things kids shouldn’t be going through
AuAg is the odd one out of the main three, since what you see is what you get; a story about criminals fucking each other over after the downfall of the sin-filled casino they all work at
But even my other stories tend to be fantasy stories with rich, imaginative worldbuilding that ends up having darker themes lmao
- Rivals of Prisma/Powershift also being a story about color coded people but this time perhaps being about rivals whose loathing for one another trascends time and worlds
- MAR/Blue Light having color coded secret agents doing spy-ish shit but also being about the existentialism of not being in control of your life and something something about an atlas complex and the main protagonist constantly having issues about what’s real or not
- Dream.exe being about kids with fairy tale superpowers who can travel through dream lands but being a cover for a dark science experiment
- A Story Told being about knights and fairies but also one of the main characters is meant to be a lost prince whose people were wiped out
- Secrets of the Gem Council being about magical witch girls (and one were-corvid) going on adventures together but also being involved in solving a massive murder mystery and running into bandits and assassins along the way
- Dragon Destiny (granted, I will change the title someday) being about science experiment color coded dragons but one of the main characters is trying to heal from his trauma of not being “perfect” enough and being subjected to horrific experiments to make him “perfect” while also trying to keep his secret dragon/human hybrid daughter a secret when his lover and the baby’s mom is a high profile person and also his old creator is hunting him down for escaping his labs and most importantly, his control
- Infinity Crisis starting off as a series exploring a bunch of friends in a virtual reality MMO RPG but soon the secrets behind the game’s development ends up putting everyone’s lives in danger, whether it be characters suffering from comas, getting hunted and assassinated, and people going sorta mad from all the events happening. Also the idea of a found family that is broken at the beginning of the series, because One Event just causes everyone to break apart from their differing morals and leaving everyone to dwell over what the hell were they getting themselves into when all they wanted to do was help develop a game that would connect with a passionate audience, but all their hard work and now their relationships are haunted by the trauma they faced
Granted other stories I have are just Dark Dark, but I guess I just love designing quirky colorful characters but it contrasts heavily with my more heavy writing decisions lmao

So, um, from time to time, I just suddenly get really motivated to create something, a flash of creativity, but only for a few hours. Naturally, I think on writing, but I can't put my thoughts on paper, my head seems to be going crazy, it's a really weird feeling and mostly confusing, so I was thinking if you could help me on this, giving me some tips to start writing?
Oh, this is a fun one, because this is something I think everyone struggles with. What happens when creativity is high, but motivation or ideas are low? I’ve got a few tricks that I use for myself:
1) Store writing prompts in drafts
I do this all the time. If at any point I’m scrolling through tumblr and see a prompt I like, or think I could use later, I store it in my drafts. Then, when inspiration hits, I’ll scroll through my drafts and see if any of them pique my interest. This is also a good way just to start writing, even if you veer away from the original prompt. Some of my favorite prompt blogs include @gingerly-writing @corvidprompts @deepwaterwritingprompts and @promptsforthestrugglingauthor
2) Free write
While similar to using prompts like above, allow yourself to just write anything. It doesn’t have to be on a specific WIP, or even with specific characters. Write literally whatever comes to mind. I like to use this especially when paired with music. Put your music player on shuffle and write in accordance to what comes on. Or better yet, put on music without words--video game music is great for this, because it’s meant to hold your focus. I created a pandora station for myself feeding from video game and movie OSTs that I use for writing all the time.
3) Writing sprints
If you are competitive like I am, writing sprints are a great way to get words on the paper. These can be done with other writing groups, or on your own. Set yourself a timer, and if you want, set yourself a word count goal as well. Either way, I usually do 10 or 15 minute “sprints.” During this time, I write and do nothing else. Then break for about the same amount of time to let yourself recover, and think about what comes next, get a snack, whatever else. Usually I’ll end up sprinting 3-4 times like this, and sometimes I don’t end up breaking in between because I’ve finally found my groove. The days during NaNoWriMo when I wrote 5k-7k in one day was almost always done in sprints like this. I like using the program Write or Die, but there are plenty of others out there too. Find what works for your reward system, and feel free to experiment!
4) Allow yourself to do something else creative
Maybe the words just aren’t coming. That’s okay! Sketch out character designs, make yourself a cover, put together a playlist, write a poem, write a song, or just work on your outline. Brainstorm ideas and color code them. We can’t be actively writing all the time, but that doesn’t mean the work you’re doing won’t help you later.
5) Look for root causes of this restlessness
I don’t know about you, but I have anxiety issues, and sometimes that comes through as restlessness, or an inability to focus. A lot of times, I just need to settle myself down to allow my brain some space to think and plot. Try doing something with your hands, and give yourself a sense of order or space. Wash the dishes, clean your work space, walk around the house to burn off some excess energy, or even take a hot shower or a bath. Let your hands and body focus on something else, to give your mind a chance to breathe and process what you’re trying to accomplish. Also, check yourself: Have you had enough water? Food? Sleep? All of these things can put a block on the writing process. Your mind and body are your instruments, and you have to keep those running smoothly as well. As much as we would love to be able to pluck the words from the air, it’s a more complicated process than that.
