So, I do not believe the Comic Goldenheart boys would have children. First of all, I don't personally headcanon either of them to be able to give birth to or carry children, and second, within the canon of the Comicverse, them reproducing would be a horrendous fucking idea.

However, I am not immune to the desire to create fankids. So. Allow me to introduce my their imaginary son from an AU where them having a baby wouldn't be the World's Worst Decision, Gregor Blackheart.

The colors came out kinda ugly(er) than they looked in Krita and please ignore the skin swatches I just fucking forgot to erase lmao. But yeah, this is a quick sketch of him 💕 headcanons below the cut if anyone is interested

He was named "Gregor" because when Nimona transformed into a little boy and called herself by the same name, it was the first time Ballister ever considered one day being a father, so they named their little guy for that moment

Nimona entered his/the Blackheart's lives when he was about three years old. Ambrosius was very nervous of her at first, especially with his most precious baby, but he quickly saw how good she was with him and that they loved playing together (and she could protect and keep up with him easily)

Ambrosius regards him as literally the most perfect thing to have ever come from him and the only good thing he ever played a part in, and was definitely at least a bit overbearing as a dad

When he was a baby/firstborn he was bald (specifically had that Old Man hairstyle that babies have where they only have fuzz on the sides of their head) and Ambrosius would always be like "Aww he looks just like his papa (Ballister)" and before Ballister could be like "that's sweet" he'd go "he got a big ol' bald head. Forehead for days." This would ruin it but it was also cute

He struggles with regulating his emotions like his dad and is highly intelligent and analytical like his papa. This caused mental health issues especially in his pre/teen years but his parents had thankfully done enough healing that they could support him and so he had a better outcome than they did

Both Ballister and Ambrosius went from "we read all the books and attended all the classes so we know EXACTLY what we're doing" to being too scared to hold him immediately once he was born

As a little kid/baby, Ballister was better at calming him down when he cried/got sad, scared, or hurt, while Ambrosius was better when he got angry, tantrums, or an attitude (Him crying would subconsciously trigger and upset Ambrosius, who would be easily overwhelmed, and him acting bratty/like a normal toddler frustrated Ballister who generally just would want to leave the situation)

He sees Nimona as an aunt and liked to play with her the most as a kid. This made Ambrosius extremely fucking jealous, but he got over it when he realized he was Gregor's favorite person to cuddle. Ballister is low-key jealous of both of them, but he is the main one that Gregor info-dumps to about all his special interests so he knows that he loves each of them in his own way

He was 1000 percent an accident. They knew they had no business reproducing given how fucked up their relationship was. I imagine he would come not terribly long after they got back together, too. Keeping him would have been a very hard choice but ultimately neither of them could bear the idea of losing the only biological family they'd ever have.

Comments: I’m only just getting into this fandom, but SCOTT SUMMERS??? I really like him. He’s going to feature prominently. I’m glad that there are people that think he’s autistic because I was three fics into getting to know this man, and I was like, is he??? It’s not tagged?? No, apparently he’s just Like That. [STRENGTH] - Are they jealous/envious? If so, what makes them jealous/envious of those around them? In general Dick is not the jealous type. In specific situations he absolutely can be - and has been! - but in general he is not. He has historically been jealous of his brothers and how close they are or seem to be with Bruce - his issues with Jason in the early years were at least partially born of jealousy at how easy it seemed to be for Jason to get close to Bruce/take Dick's place at Bruce's side. He felt it for Tim, too, though by then he'd grown up enough to largely separate that emotion from his dealings with Tim, and [in my comicverse] he's felt it with Damian but, again, has managed to separate that feeling from how he acts with his youngest brother. And then of course there's how jealous he can get with his romantic relationships, but he's mostly grown out of that >w> He can also be envious of others, usually in the way others have a[n at least perceived] freedom he's never quite felt for himself to relax and make mistakes, but he usually manages to hide it well.

[THE FOOL] - Do you consider them naive, or disconnected from the world aronud them? If so, what do they need to step back and reflect on to get them "in the zone"? Dick hasn't been naive since he got nearly beaten to death with a baseball bat after getting tricked into playing a no-win game and sentencing an unfortunate man to death by drowning instead of death by hanging. He grew up very quickly after that. Being disconnected from the world around him, however, isn't entirely unheard of. Dick does sometimes get stuck in his own head or too caught up in his own ideals and what he thinks is right, and generally it takes someone else - Tim, Babs, one of his old Titan teammates - to give him a verbal [or literal] slap in the face and tell him to knock it off. He's a little too much like Bruce in that regard, though unlike Bruce he actually listens. Usually.

[JUDGMENT] - What is one thing they harshly judge themselves for? What creates doubt and self-loathing for them? Failure. Any kind of failure, real or perceived. Bruce held him to impossible standards as Robin - and punished him for failing to meet them more than once - and Dick internalized that very quickly. His absolute worst fear, canonically, is not being good enough, even though he has not and will never openly admit this. Even as a grown man, as Nightwing once he's managed to claw his way at least a little out of Bruce's shadow, Dick still tries to hold himself to the standards Bruce has set for him and he never feels like he manages to reach them.

[THE SUN] - Is it hard for them to stay positive? If so, why is that? It can be. Mostly due to things revolving around the answer to the previous question. The worse Dick thinks he's failed or failing, the harder it is for him to stay positive. He'll usually hide it well, especially if he's got a team he has to lead and maintain appearances for, but inside he will be a ball of nerves and anxiety just praying that he can pull off whatever needs to be done.

Jean's reflections on Inferno. Rating: General Fandom: X-Men (Comicverse) Set shortly after Inferno. Jean lay in bed wishing Scott was beside her, but she also know the wisdom in taking it slow. They just had Madelyn's funeral a few days ago. No one has had time to properly process anything as there is always a new battle to fight. They did get her sister’s kids back, and they will hopefully find her sister. If Scott rolled over and sleepily called her Maddie she’d hate him for it, and she couldn’t bare the thought of hating him. He was flawed, just as she was, and she wanted their relationship to work, she had to accept it would never be the same but they could still be good together, she hopes.

She can’t stop thinking about how scared the baby had been, how he cried out to her telegraphically in fear. Was it just because she was still a psi even though her telepathic powers seemed gone, or because his mother was her clone? She had to help Scott keep him safe in a world that already put a target on his back, he was so small, and so innocent. Remembering Madelyn’s anger over the baby reaching out of Jean, she had blamed Jean more for her problems then Sinister. Sinister had cloned her, Sinister had set her up to meet Scott, yet so much was Jean’s fault in the eyes of her clone. Her burning hate for Scott for leaving her when he had tried to call, had gone back, she couldn’t help but remember how angry she had been when she found how they had been hiding the fact Scott was married from her. Scott was just so emotionally repressed, what chance to a woman who wasn’t a telepath have with him. She could empathize more now that she could no longer be invited to just look into his mind to see how he truly felt. That speech Maddie had given about what him separated from the X-Men and if he had just abandoned his friends everything would have been okay. How would someone wish to separate someone they loved from their friends like that?

That poor innocent baby, she had been willing to murder him just to hurt Scott. Yet . . . she still wished they could have saved her. For all of Jean’s jealousy over Maddie having a life she had day dreamed about with Scott, she couldn’t help but wonder how much she had been shaped but what Sinister did to her? How had she been effected by The Phoenix's touch? She now has Maddie’s memories, after a few peaks to see if they had every been happy to see if somehow Scott had somehow become a monster around her. She saw happiness and was glad of it before withdrawing and trying to give the dead woman and Scott their privacy. She wondered if it had been wrong to look that much. Clone or not she had been an autonomous sentient person. Then there was the thoughts she lay in the dark trying to avoid. That a man had taken and used her DNA, that man wanting a baby with her and Scott’s DNA for his own twisted reasons. She felt violated, and wondered if she’d ever find someone to talk to about that. She feared not, that any talk of that would be seen as discounting what Maddie had gone though. She had once been able to use her telepathy to put someone to sleep, but now she was stuck looking up at a dark ceiling feeling completely alone and separated from others.

Hello! Do you have any Miles Morales fic recs? Either gen or romance works, I just miss the character, but I’ve found it’s especially hard to find any Miles-centric romance fics. Maybe I’m just not looking under the right tags though

No you're looking just fine, there's definitely a long-standing deficit of quality Miles-centric fics be it general or romance. Not that they don't exist, but most writers out there aren't exactly clamoring to write about Spidey the way they do, say, Tim Drake. Or maybe I'm just too picky. Anyway, some of the fics on this list are almost a decade old but the impression they've made on me is timeless.

Following Weblines by Traincat, gen, comicverse, completed // Peter and Miles only got to hang out while Miles was still a timid 13 year old once. This fic amends that a little. It also in my opinion provides a more interesting twist to the question of "Who is 616 Miles Morales" than Spider-Men II.

The Worst Parts by JLMonroe1234, gen, Insomniac-verse, one-shot // Miles trauma. Always good. The bond between him and Peter in the video games is so, so wholesome, like eating your greens, and there's just enough of Miles flailing at the horrors to balance it all out. I don't have much interest in the insomniac-verse as a Miles adaptation, but this didn't disappoint

we'll be doing what we do best (just pretending that we're cool) by subwaycars, gen feat. romance [Miles Morales/Katie Bishop], comicverse, one-shot (unfortunately) // This was published before Miles' time in the Ultimate universe came to a sudden close, and sometimes I honestly wish his comics went something like this instead. It's really good. Katie Bishop isn't a mere bystander to unfortunate circumstances, for one.

the 34th street transfer by funnefatale, romance [Miles Morales/Kamala Khan], comicverse, one-shot // This one isn't Miles-centric, but hey, he's a strong presence in it. Plus, it's Kamiles. We gotta take what we can get. I've always entertained the idea of Miles getting to become a safe space for Kamala to decompress and this doesn't disappoint.

Rendezvous by porygonkin, romance [Miles Morales/Gwen Stacy], comicverse, one-shot // This fic handles the sudden smooshing of 1610 and 616 with more grace than than the ones who actually got paid to do it. But it doesn't end there! Aside from that, this guy wrote the comic Miles/Gwen pairing better than anything in the entirety of Sitting in a Tree. And it makes Miles' time in the Ultimate universe a key plot point, that's always a favorite of mine.

Five Failed Dates and One Successful One by ShannonXL, romance [Miles Morales/Kate Bishop], comicverse, one-shot // Two superheroes scoring a good date is easier said than done. I've always found this one humorous and authentic for two people who've fought aliens.

Platinum by GotLostInTranslation, romance [Miles Morales/Gwen Stacy], spiderverse, one-shot // This author is like, my favorite Spiderverse writer as well as my favorite for this pairing. The prose hits that sweet spot between fluff and miserable pining.

Waiting by Awakening5, romance [Miles Morales/Gwen Stacy], spiderverse, one-shot // This one right here man. The longing, the yearning, the LOVE. This is clearly an author who remembers what it is to be in love as a teen, and there's fake-dating in there for good measure. If I had to pick every line that made an impression I'd have to copy and paste the entire fic.

Across the Spiderverse by JoMo3, romance/gen [Miles Morales/Gwen Stacy], ongoing (surprisingly published two years before the actual film was announced) // This fic is honestly like a comic book, but a good one. Once Miles & Gwen make it official, the progression of their relationship is managed flawlessly with the superhero shenanigans that make their way to the page (screen?). That’s without mentioning the banter.

I tend to write in bursts, so I can spend a year spitting stuff out (though they then stay in drafts forever >.>; ), and then nothing for a long time lol.

I'm always interested in the Justice Lords verse, though I do miss my friend's and my "Domestic SuperBats AU" where Bruce and Clark are married with Kara as Clark's daughter and all the Robins and Batgirl are adopted. <3

5. what’s the optimal wordcount for a fic? (it, of course, depends. but what do you like?)

I like short drabbles I can read quickly, but if I'm going to sink my teeth into a chapter fic then I don't really have a preference as to length - just the hope it will eventually be finished.

I know I gushed about it at the time, but I'm still appreciative of "Acceptable Losses" you wrote from my suggestion prompt, since you hit me hard with the surprise "Red" connection. ;~; It's a really important symbol in my other big fandom fixation, expressly being the "color of heroes". ;o

More recently is "Performance Piece" by fight_knight, which I've mentioned before but is an intriguing take on DCAU and comics Tim switching places post-RotJ. Specifically though, Chapter 8 got me good since it also surprised me by lining up almost exactly with a headcanon I have of Steph being the only one DCAU Timmy allows to cut his hair, but I couldn't fit it into my own fic so I'm happy someone else (sorta) did it. ='> (I hope the author does continue someday...)

Aside, I had actually wanted to use this opportunity to plug this fic to you since I don't recall if I ever shared it before, but it looks like the author deleted... OTL

Honestly probably my own fic draft since I still go back and revise chapters and that's typically the only time I have to do so.

Not so much fluffy, but tbh I always wondered/worried if Tim cries too much in my fic, now even more so from your answers lol. ^^; (It does happen less so later on as he continues his recovery, fwiw.) In general I get concerned about writing DC characters OoC in any capacity since I didn't grow up with them - especially when it comes to the comics as I know even less about those versions. =x (Also some of the more... controversial scenes/ships in my stories. *cough*)

17. if a 12 or 13 y/o approached you for advice on starting to write and publish fanfiction (whether for personal enjoyment or in a friendly, age-appropriate public/internet space), what would you teach them?

I'd say don't let motivation slip away. If you're interested and inspiration strikes then go for it. Just write for your own enjoyment, and don't let outside circumstances stop/discourage you.

18. what’s a very small headcanon that you have that could easily be a novel-length fic if you had the time?

Idk about novel-length but I still like the idea of Veronica Vreeland having a crush on Bruce/being the "princess" type who promises to marry him as kids. Their parents would arrange playdates when young, and being the spoiled brat she is one day she sees a bunny in Bruce's garden and goes all Veruca Salt, demanding her daddy to get it for her. Bruce points out though it has a partner, and his dad/mom told him "rabbits can die of loneliness". That's when she decides she's fallen in love/is determined to wed her "prince" someday, and tries to confess to him by making a snow bunny - unknowingly right after his parents' deaths - but he ends up hurting her feelings like in this scene from Kanon. ;(

She watches over him from a distance as they grow up, how he refuses to play with her anymore and retreats from high society. Even when he eventually returns to the rich Gothamite circle and agrees to host/attend parties with her he still constantly pushes her away, keeping at arm's length for some reason. Until one day he suddenly grows sullen and morose again, completely shutting himself off and becoming a recluse, even letting his company fall to ruin... When she goes to visit him in the future after figuring out he's the one who saved her daughter for his final act as Batman, he still rebuffs her efforts to get him to come out and engage with others, so she repeats those words back to him before sadly leaving: "Rabbits can die of loneliness, you know."

19. who’s that character and what is a specific canon moment for that character that you can talk about for centuries and just never ever get tired of it?

DCAU Timmy and really any of his moments in the tie-in comics since they're criminally unknown (pun not intended), although for within the show itself the "Never Fear" and "Growing Pains" eps also count.

20. have you tried to get people in your life on board with your fanfiction or is it all super secret because they’d never understand?

I mean I'm still waiting for a friend to read my fics but as for other non-writers then no.

Looking Back, Did You Write More Fic Than You Thought You Would This Year, Less, Or About What You’d Expected?

I don't remember having any expectations at the start of this year, but I was certainly surprised that I powered through Flufftober like I did (I didn't even intend to participate and then suddenly I was writing fics daily). Otherwise, I'm a bit sad that multi-chapter fics appear to be just too difficult for me. Maintaining motivation for one story over a longer time span isn't easy.

What’s Your Own Favorite Story Of The Year?

No idea. I really liked writing for some X-Men rare pairs though - especially the sapphic ones.

Did You Take Any Writing Risks This Year?

For the X-Men Rare Pair Fest, I wrote a trans!woman x enby pairing, and it made me sweat so hard skdfjkaljdkh because I was so scared of doing something wrong.

Attempt to write a multi-chapter fic? Also give less of a shit about comments or writing and posting regularly or reading other people's works when I'm just not interested in it. None of the mentioned things helped my mental health this year.

Story Of Mine Most Under-Appreciated By The Universe, In My Opinion:

All rare pairs!! Seriously, especially in the X-Men fandom, if you read a rare pair fic and like it, comment. Do something to keep the authors motivated, or else you'll soon have no content anymore (of which there is already precious little).
