🔥Lysandre🍷

☕️ Truthfully, he is not sure why he has not proposed to you at some point. Lysandre does not expect to find another person he views as beautiful as nor does he think he would have you slip away from him, yet somehow, in the midst of his plans, it just never comes up. His work consumes him, and he barely has the time to contemplate marriage in his schedule. Yet, it crosses his mind after listening to a grunt talk about his plans to pay for his spouse's entrance fee. It suddenly occurs to him that many men his age and position are married. For a moment, he feels foolish for not acting sooner. There was no need to wait for his beautiful world to get married, after all.

☕️ He spends time bouncing ideas about how to do it with those he feels most comfortable with. Sycamore ends up encouraging him to do just do it naturally. Feeling that if he tries to make a show of it, that would become uncomfortable or distressed by what is supposed to be a happy moment. Malva asks if he cannot just delay it a bit longer, which he ignores. Suddenly, his perfect world cannot be achieved unless he is married. Lysandre begins to make plans for a trip in order to get away from work and make a memorable thing for you both. (Perhaps a proper farewell and remembrance of this world to him partially.)

☕️ A ring was bought to be something discreet yet meaningful. He had been extremely picky to the point that having it commissioned to be custom-made had been the only way to fulfil whatever he felt was necessary for his ring. A Hessonite Garnet had caught his attention, and a golden band felt like the only pairing he would allow. When he finally had it, his heart felt at ease. The orange shade of the gem was a colour that he had long since been fascinated with.

☕️ A trip to Snowbelle for a quiet getaway in the colder locale proved something much needed for both of you. Spending time cuddled up in a cabin was a pleasant escape from the endless stresses related to both of his organisations. Though, there were also a few trips out into the nearby forest for a relaxing hike and a trip to a nearby mountain range to try skiing and other winter proclivities. Of course, it was after a long day spent out in the freezing weather that he found himself with you snuggled into his side in front of a fire. The crackling of flames made his mind wander. The ring box was pulled out of his slacks' pocket.

“For many years now, I have been blessed to have you at my side,” Lysandre spoke with his voice down to a soft rumble, “I am eternally thankful that you and I met, and would never wish to lose you.” He grasped your left hand within his own as he knelt before you. His height made it feel a bit ineffective, but his eyes met yours with a strange gentleness that was solely reserved for those he deeply cared about. He brought out the ring and watched as it glimmered in the fire's light.

“Will you marry me, my love?” he asked with an exposed heart. Your denial could well and truly destroy him. “There is no other I find as perfect as you… Please, let us spend the rest of our lives entwined.”

☀️Maxie🌋

🪨 He thinks about it unfortunately pretty often. Most men his age are married. Though, granted, most men his age also did not nearly destroy the world in pursuit of their own ideals. But, he did have a partner. One he was quite committed to. One that, if provided the opportunity, he would marry. Yet, he just had not found it in himself for so many reasons. His plans had required his full attention previously. Though, now, nothing like that stood in his way. A slight insecurity burned the Great Maxie's chest. He was not someone worthy of such things after what he did. An off-handed comment from Archie about you being his spouse is what finally set him over.

🪨 He quietly debates how to get everything together. There were many things that would need to be done in the case you said yes. Like meeting each other's families properly for a wedding discussion. Maxie truly did not want to do that part, but it was what was proper. He has a headache thinking about how to do it, too. Rings were the most common choice for proposing to a partner, so he knew he would need to look into that as well. Detailed lists are made and spied upon by Tabitha, who makes the rare decision to interfere. A suggestion to take you on a trip to Lavaridge seemed to make Maxie become a bit more grounded towards you.

🪨 Maxie about drives every possible jeweller in Hoenn insane. He is far too picky about the origins and details related to the gems in their rings, which makes him an annoying customer. There is little debate about what ring exactly he plans to give to you. He had already designed it on his computer and was searching for a shop either willing to make it or with something close enough that he could feel contented with it. A ruby ring with a golden band. He would settle for no more or less. The shimmering red of the gem may have reminded him of the shade of the Red Orb, but it also forced to mind his team's colour. Not to mention it just being his favourite gem. Somehow, he eventually found someone through Steven, who only sent aid when seeing a fellow rock enthusiastic in him.

🪨 The trip that Tabitha suggested ended up being a wonderful idea. A traditional inn and the shifting of the season into autumn made for a relaxing visit to the area and hot springs. While he may not enjoy the cold, he could recognise a good pairing. You seemed to enjoy the trip, too. Happy to get away from all the stresses of helping him run Team Magma and Courtney's new persistent glaring regiment. It was after a trip to the hot spring, that you found yourselves alone in your room, watching as the sun set behind the mountainous surroundings of the town. The swirling of leaves in the air and a quiet moment made him recall the ring box in his pocket.

“For what reason that has continued to see you at my side after my incalculable lapse in judgement, I do not know,” he began quietly, feeling that insecurity rise once again. You could do much better than him; you deserved much better than him. But, when you looked at him with eyes full of love, those thoughts were forced back. “I am ever thankful that I still have you in my life and that I was stopped before I destroyed this world,” Maxie felt his hand come to grasp yours. You felt so warm in his grip, your pulse beating in tandem with his own.

The ring was revealed by him as he swallowed. His glasses felt much too heavy on his face as he became aware of just how surreal everything was. “My dear, will you marry me?” The question felt like a solid weight in the air. “I don't think there's another person that I could see myself living out the end of my days with.”

🌧Archie🌊

💧 It crosses his mind a few times. He has been with for so long, and you have stuck at his side through his worst moments. Honestly, he just felt like it did not need to be done. You both clearly were basically married without all the official documents and what have you. The whole of Team Aqua already thought you to be his spouse, anyway. Something official felt redundant. Though, the second he heard Maxie intended to get married, suddenly his opinion shifted hard. Of course, the nerd would feel the need to go through all the legal channels and whatever else. He refused to let the redhead get ahead of him, however.

💧 He debates how to go about it. Between asking Matt and him just telling Archie to go ahead and do it with little thought, to Shelly forcing him to actually be realistic and doing something romantic first, he felt a bit confused. He sighed as the admin made him remember that he probably should speak to his and your families, but he felt that was all tiring. Who cared about tradition? All that mattered was love, and he certainly had that. He did find the talk about a gift of jewellery while doing it more interesting. Could he get you something to better match his anchor? His interest was not in the expected avenues. Archie highly doubted you were going to say no.

💧 He pretty quickly settles on a sapphire ring. It's blue, he likes blue, and it makes him think of the Blue Orb. It works pretty much to fulfil everything he would possibly need it to. Though, despite the insistence of the store clerk to go for a silver band, he demands a golden one. He needed it to match his necklace, after all. His original plan had been to get you a necklace like his, but Shelly shut that down the second it left his mouth. (Matt told him to still go for it, but he could tell the ring was probably a better choice in the end.)

💧 He takes you out for a quiet stroll on the beach of Lilycove as the sun was setting. The sound of the waves lapping against the shore almost felt in tune with his heartbeat. His eyes darted to you a few times, taking in how the light made you almost seem to be glowing. The ocean was nothing but a complimentary scenery as he felt whatever small nervousness melt away. You stuck with him even after the Kyogre madness and supported him wholeheartedly when he changed the direction of his team. He reached into the unzipped part of his wetsuit to go for the ring box.

“Luvdisc, I know tha' I have made some pretty unforgivable mistakes,” Archie felt a rare, sheepish grin fall across his face, “And I'm thankful that you have stuck by me through all that.” His eyes met yours as you cocked a brow up at where he could possibly be going with this. The two of you had long since discussed everything that happened, but he felt the urge to preface it all with that. He grasped your hand tightly as his usual grin split his face. There was nothing to worry about, the Aqua Leader reassured himself.

“Let's get married,” he proudly announced while pulling out the ring, “I already see ya as my spouse, so why not just make it official? I want to spend every day to come at your side.”

💫Volo📜

⭐️ Marriage never crosses his mind. Honestly, he doesn't even consider a long term in his life about most things. Marriage is not something overly common in Hisui. Sure, his people had traditions like it and the clans did, too. In his case, marriages were usually decided by the parents of the person, which resembled what most of the Galaxy Team seemed to favour. But, he could tell you viewed it differently. It was obvious you wanted whatever it was you saw it as with him. And then, after what happened at the Temple of Sinnoh between you both, he just saw it as impossible.

⭐️ Volo listened intensely to what you had to say about your time period as you went on about it. From what he deciphered, it was clear marriage is mostly viewed as a romantic thing to do in your time, not as a way of combing powers or funds. It interests him, as you continued onto proposals and modern married life. All of it interested him, but everything was impossible in the period you both resided in. Marriage between you two would be essentially nothing more than a quiet declaration between you both. There would be no rings or jewellery, only a common understanding of a dedicated relationship. While, he would have been fine with that, something told him that you would crave the image you had in your head of a wedding ceremony.

⭐️ Before he had time to even discuss such things with you, you were gone. The sky which spit you out in Hisui had consumed you once more and taken you back from whence you came. His frustration boiled in his chest. Arceus was mocking him at this point. He gripped a precious agate bracelet in his hand as he glared harshly at the sky. The accessory was difficult to obtain, having to sway previous merchant connections to have it. His plan had been to offer it as a gift before promising to spend his life at your side. It was far too late for that now. He fell to his knees in exhaustive feelings.

⭐️ It was his immortal life that granted him a second chance, he realised. What was meant to be a punishment – a curse, benefitted him greatly. You were in the future, after all. He had nothing but time. Which is how he ended up intercepting you as you stepped out into a more isolated place within Sinnoh. You had just held some sort of meeting with a descendant of his, something he cared little for. The bracelet was still with him all these years later. Volo caught your hand as he gave one of his more friendly smiles. Whatever stunned state you fell into passed quickly. The yellow agate caught the light dully as he slid it onto your wrist.

“... My, don't you look surprised?” he chuckled at your reaction to seeing him again, “I told you, didn't I? I'd meet Arceus even if it took me centuries.” His eyes met yours, feelings twisting in them plainly. It had been so long for him, yet no time for you. Unfair, he wanted to call, completely unfair. Your mind raced with so many things. It was certainly a bold move to propose so soon after re-meeting for the first time in who knew exactly how long, but he did not care. There had been more than enough time for him to reflect on his feelings.

“No matter, that's irrelevant,” he shook his head and pulled you close to him, smiling even brighter at you, “My love, let us finally be together. I want nothing more than to spend the rest of time with you.”

🌌Cyrus🛰

☄️ It crosses his mind at some point when he realises his age. Sure, many people hold off on marriage well into their thirties, and many people even then still opt against marriage due to how stressful it could be. Memories of attempts of arranged marriages by his parents scorn his mind. Business partners still offer their sisters and daughters to him in order to better strengthen deals and raise his status. It was after one of those particular meetings that he felt the urge to finally marry you. His plans had failed, already. There was no point in delaying things further here.

☄️ Cyrus plans a nice dinner at one of the more expensive restaurants in Jubilife, trying to set the mood more than his original plans. Mars had seen his notes about telling you plainly that he planned to merge your family registers and have you legally listed as his spouse. It seemed easier than all the elaborate bells and whistles of inviting you to marriage. A ceremony was deeply unwanted by him. He knew you would not say no, but she insisted on him being romantic and being polite to at least consider your feelings. Besides, it was not like he had parents for you to discuss this with, and yours likely would not be opposed to a marriage with him. At least, as long as they did not know of his previous plans, he supposed.

☄️ He struggled with what to do. Mars insisted he get you a gift. A ring screamed romance to her, but she suggested that he focus on something that you would like. A ring was a common choice, so he presumed it was the safest option. A bright heliodor gem with a silver band seemed pleasant enough to suffice. The clerk had ecstatically explained to him the meanings of them gem, but he cared little to recall much more than some odd association with leadership. Though, the name itself was admittedly what attracted him. Perhaps your waxing poetic about his name's meaning had unconsciously wore off on him.

☄️ It was after the dinner that he brought you out to an isolated place within the city that he took your hand within his as he turned to face you. His eyes gazed at your ring finger as thoughts rushed through his mind. He hated how breathless he felt. The thought of you both unified together made him feel strange. Feeling in general was hard for him, but the idea of finally tying himself to this world was exhausting. Your voice calling his name with a lightly concerned tone snapped him out of it. His hand fished the ring box out from his suit coat pocket.

“... I know I am not the easiest person to live with,” Cyrus began while meeting your eyes, “Every day I am eternally grateful that I have you in my life still. Your presence calms me down from the strange emotional turmoil that foolishly claims me.” He stops himself from going further. Memories of all the time you two had spent together dances behind his eyes. You were the only reason he left the Distortion World. The ring is presented by him with a desperate need to hide his shaking hands.

“Allow us to marry,” he forced down any unwanted hesitation, “I believe you are the only person I could ever wish to spend my days with.”

Hag-Eyed and Volo's Ersatz Eye cosmetics

Okay making this post because I haven't seen anyone do it and I've wanted it to be a thing so many times I might as well do it myself! This will include images of the cosmetics on all viable companions as well as player races with unique eyes.

Volo's Ersatz Eye:

Player races (Dragonborn, Githyanki, Tiefling) Volo cares not for the color of your sclera.

Origin Characters Karlach's has the slit pupil! As does Lae'zel's!

Hag-Eyed:

Player races (Dragonborn, Githyanki, Tiefling) The eye didn't show up in Magic Mirror for my Tiefling so this is a dialog screenshot- sorry

Wyll isn't included due to not having a good eye to spare and as such being barred from both eye replacements. Minthara, Halsin, and Jaheira will refuse to obtain Volo's eye, and I'm not sure it's possible to get any of them to the Hag. Minthara maybe... But I don't have a file in which I could test it.

Additional context below + how to obtain both eyes if you need it. -(Will contain a GIF)

Volo's Ersatz Eye: You will first find Volo in the Emerald Grove, and if you talk to him, he will explain that he's going to visit the Goblin Camp. When you find him there, interact with him, and then rescue him. He'll eventually be at your camp, and you can talk to him about your affliction and he'll say he can fix it. Once you've had a Long Rest, talk to him again and he'll propose to do surgery on you. From what I understand, the scene is very graphic both visually and in narration, and is also pretty long. If you have issues with eye trauma like I do, I recommend covering your screen with a sheet or enlisting a more confident friend to tell you when it's done... (You do need to pick dialog options though) Anyways, once you've had that impromptu surgery, Volo will offer to replace your eye with a relic as payback. This eye gives you a permanent See Invisibility condition, as well as the cosmetic change, which makes it a net positive. Though I believe companions do disapprove of the surgery.

Little bit of a closer look at the Ersatz eye on a Dragonborn... It doesn't glow and it's not animated, but doesn't have a visible sclera. You can get this effect normally by selecting "human" eye colors. It doesn't really match with classic DB eyes though. EDIT - The Ersatz Eye seems to always have a slightly green-tinted sclera when the sclera is visible. You can only really tell up close, but it's worth noting I guess.

Hag's Eye: The Hag's Eye can be obtained in the Sunlit Wetlands after talking to Auntie Ethel in the Emerald Grove. Just go to the quest marker there. Going through with this will give you the Hag-Eyed tag and the "Paid the Price" condition. Unlike with Volo's Ersatz Eye, you get to pick which of your eyes is replaced. The condition will give you a +1 to Intimidation, Disadvantage on perception checks, and Disadvantage on attacks against Hags. In Early Access, it made it impossible to land Critical Hits, but as far as I can tell this is no longer a thing! (Also fun fact- After giving the Hag their eye, all the companions have custom overworld dialog. I'll leave you to look at that yourself though!)

For Dragonborns, the eye has a very visible black sclera, and is unanimated, as you can see here. It's up to you whether you think that matches well with classic DB eyes or not.

If you want the effects but not the cosmetics, there are mods on Nexus which remove the visual component in both cases. I may add links to those mods down here later, but Nexus is down right now so it'll have to wait.

Fanfic that i´m not gonna writte but i can´t stop thinking about it

So, i have this Clanleadership Au in my head that is so overly complicated and that i have no the time, energy or capacity to writte.

Ok, hear me out lovely people on tumblr is a kind of Pride and Prejudice Au, especific undercut because is gonna be long.

First Irida is Lizzy because of course, Palina must be Jane and Akari is a combination of all younger sisters, she is kind of the odd. Gaeric is their father and he is a widow.

Is a kind of Pride and Prejudice Au not a literal thing.

Mister Gaeric still have the problem of only daugherts no real heir in the family so he must do his best to married their daughters. The problem is different than in the original because he think all men in the world are not enought for any of his totally perfect daughters specialy if we talk about Irida wich create a lot of problems with society because he tend to talk without mesuaring his words.

So the DIamonds arrive. Adaman and Iscan comes visit town and they are super rich and in the haunt for good wives, Melli comes with them because we need someone winy enought to be the bitchy sister. So, Iscan and Palina fall in love but Irida and Adaman bump heads, Irida has the impression that Adaman is just too acelerate, always running and never serius down classic Irida and Adaman things, also he is too flirty with every damsel that cross his way.

In some point Iscan invite Palina to his house but Gaeric refuse the invitation because how he dare, but Palina goes anyways and get catch by a rain and get sick. Irida visit the Diamond mansion in order to see her beloved sister and the result is in more fun shananigans betwen Adaman and her. At the end Gaeric go and return his daughters home. Everything goes so well and Irida and Palina are sure than Iscan would propose soon. But sorprise sorprise the Diamonds leave town without a word and Palina is hearthbroken.

Along with all that fun plot the Army comes to town and we cast Volo as Wickan because who else?? He and Irida kind of talk and became aquantance and trash talk Adaman so much because something happend betwen the two long time ago. Also Also Volo and Akari also form a frienship, but is only in the background for now.

So Irida is decide to found out what the hell happen and why that guy reject her sister so she travel to the city with the excuse of studing, she studing herbs and medicine with The old Cabba and she offer her a travel.

In the city she found the diamonds including Adaman sister Mai and they become really good friends, and Mai tell her that Adaman is a good man, for example he saved his friend from a bad marriage, said so he broke Palina and Iscan.

Irida is piss by this and confront Adaman who because this is a PaP Au confess his love and get reject soooo hard. Irida reclaim everything to him, incluing his disagrament with Volo even when she have no idea of what the hell happend betwen the two. This fic in my mind is just an excuse for writte this scene by the way.

So, that happend, Irida comes back to her little town and recive a letter from Adaman explaining why he acted the way he acted. Classic missundersteand concerning Palina and Iscan relathionship and the hole Volo situation. Result that he and Volo were childhood freinds, he was a merchand and Adamans Father a lord but after the father died it became abuntaly clear that Volo is a conman, a burglar, a thieft, and over years and years to stole from Adamans family he lead one of his cousins (Rei) to a life of crime. Adaman get to save his little cousin at time and forgive Volo with the condition that he must go and join the army and do something of his life.

Irida is shock by this revelations, but continue with her life, regreting some of her behavior toward Adaman. Maybe by this point Palina is out of town, the Pearls obviusly leaves in a little town on the mountains and Palina for some reason travels to the beach.

As a friend of Irida, Mai invites her to her birthday, so Irida travels to that even were she encounter Adaman again and sparks fly around them, Irida is having lovely feelins but when things seems promise she recive the news that her little sister Akari run away with Volo.

Gaeric runs to get his daughter back but Irida is frithing becuase well... Volo is a soldier and Gaeric is an old widow, so the family is in complete chaos but out of nowere the police catch Volo, and Akari and Gaeric comes back home safetely.

Everyone is happy, and more when the Diamonds return and Iscan propose to Palina. Adaman also is there but Irida is sure that he must hate her now.

But but but in the final revelation Akari tell Gaeric that it was Adaman who find Volo before the police and save her, but make her promise to never said nothing to her oldest sisters, so Gaeric realized that Adaman and Irida are in love and give her the pep talk.

Irida then runs dramatically to Adaman and confess her feelings and they kiss and live happily ever after. THE END.

Hmm, why go for the wardens and nobles and not Volo specifically? I feel like Volo would be... tainted? in some way, maybe. Or somehow otherwise spiritually affected, by doing weird shit with giratina. Probably a ghost pokemon could sense that, especially since giratina is a ghost too. I feel like Hisuian zoruas would probably be pretty sensitive to sensing malice in other people too, and I'm sure Volo has a lot of it tucked away. I feel like Ingo would probably hold more of a grudge against giratina anyway, since that was what took him, rather than arceus who stole the protag

the last part is the question! since i do generally think that it was giratina's intervention that brought ingo to hisui, BUT i've also seen some ppl propose that he was an initial attempt at arceus summoning a champion that it fucked up even worse than the protag's, which i think is also a fun idea, and since he obviously has no idea which one it is in canon i feel like you could go either way here.

so like, if it were giratina's doing, he'd totally be targeting volo (and i think also trying to cure the nobles of frenzy alongside the protag, since it's also giratina's influence and he hates to see anything unwillingly touched by it). CONVERSELY, if he was killed by arceus, he'd more likely be after the nobles in general, and either he'd be also targeting the protag or he'd be sympathizing with them and trying to free them from arceus' grip. any and all options are fun imo lol

the proposal

matli/volo, word count: 370. pure fluff :3

it's a quiet morning. both matli and volo had risen only an hour previously, but mornings came easily to the duo. volo sits cross legged in front of matli, who is weaving flowers into his devotee's hair.

matli hums an old song, one he had long forgotten the words for but could never forget the melody, as his fingers twist and plait through volo's long, silken locks.

volo is silent, eyes closed and deep in bliss at the sensation of nails scratching at his scalp, when his god stops humming to speak.

"my love," matli begins, "my disciple. we have lived in domestic comfort for so long. you have laid your darkest secrets at my altar, and i have come undone at your prayers. i know you, i see you, i honor you- and i must ask you a question."

volo twists around to look at matli's face. the grey haired god looks down, a light blush dusting his cheekbones. he raises a hand and caresses matli's cheek, the smaller man leaning into the touch.

"of course, matli. ask me anything."

"i… i know our bond is stronger than anyone can ever put words to. i know that our souls are intertwined. so… even if you say no, i am comforted by these truths."

volo simply tilts his head.

"volo… will you do me the honor of not only being my priest, of being my warrior of hisui, of being my sun and stars, but also… being my husband?"

both of them sit in silence, matli's eyes closed and eyebrows furrowed, as if bracing himself to hear a refusal. the silence stretches onwards, thicker than the stickiest combee honey, and in anxiety matli speaks again.

"i'm sorry. it was a stupid question- i shouldn't have even asked-"

matli is stopped mid-sentence by volo kissing him. the blond man peppers kisses all over his god's face, laughing with joy.

"yes, yes, yes! a thousand, a million times yes! nothing would make me happier!"

he kisses the tears that run down matli's cheeks, kisses the dimples in his smile, runs his hands through his grey hair and touches, touches, touches all over, as if to drink in every sensation of this moment.

Brain: it's almost tomorrow and you have inventory in the morning, do the sleeping

Me: okay but Planes 3 proposal, like-

This was discussed a bit in the VC in Volo Pro Veritas but I wanna take a second to like, gather the thoughts and elaborate this as best as I can while my brain has this sparse fleck of energy to give fucks about things.

I would have loved it, in the hypothetical scenario Planes 3 was actually happening, if Dusty really struggled to balance his life now. He has just come back from being newly certified and equipped to fight fires, and he has duties to uphold in Propwash with that. But also, he can race once more, and you know that he's going to take that the first shot he gets. But the strain of two very demanding careers, that's got to start messing with his head before too long.

To throw more wrenches into the plans, he can also be fighting trying to move up the ranks to take Mayday's stead when he finally retires, and taking on learning how to train his OWN rookies. Add in the fact that he's still a crop duster on the verge of engine failure half the time and he's just balancing on increasingly thinning lines to stay together and keep himself from, you know, fucking exploding. AND he's likely moving into his 30s now. Do I spy a recipe for disaster? A blow-up in front of friends? A meltdown? MOrE aNgSt AnD CHaoS!? PLEaSe????

I would have loved to see the strain. The slow collapse of his normally bubbly and bright demeanor, until he was back to a place similar to when he blew up at Blade in front of the mines. He knows he's biting off more than he can chew. But what could he do about it anyways? Give up his life dream which has inspired countless others like him, doing more than they were designed to do? Or give up his means of giving back to his community, and holding his entire home town up? He can't do both anymore, but cutting even one thing out will bring everybody down. And you know he's not about to give up on them.

Even if this kind of struggle was only the call to action to some wacky adventure, and the strain could only be seen for a single montage, wouldn't that be enough to weigh it in? He can't do it forever. Eventually, something will need to go. He just needs time to be able to accept that.

Watching him deal with that would have been the golden ending to the trilogy, which, ironically enough, would complete it's similar pattern to the Cars franchise: the first film is the racing tale, the second one veers off into a whole new area of intensity and stakes, and the third deals with the weight of everything only being temporary, and learning how to cope with that. God I would have loved to see it.

Volo wants to meet and understand Arceus but we can also infer that he is angry at Arceus. At a god that allowed such pain and suffering to exist in the world. Why? Arceus makes the rules, why not create the world without those things? There are no pre-existing laws stating that pain and suffering must exist. And to add that he was of the Celestica, the people of Arceus itself, yet he still suffered under the omniscient eye of the creator his people so worshipped.

Volo wants to create a world without pain or suffering and in order to do that he would have to gain Arceus' power, whether it's through forcing Arceus to obey or to kill Arceus and obtain its power. But he also wants recognition from Arceus for his devotion despite his apparent hate. He sees himself as someone special to Arceus yet in the same vein wants subterfuge of that same god. I recommend these two posts as they better put into words how I understand Volo and how he feels towards Arceus.

On an unrelated note, a segment of the paper on double bookkeeping caught my eye and again, despite the paper focusing on schizophrenia, I believe double bookkeeping applies to all psychotic disorders where specifically the person with a psychotic disorder experiences delusions. It also applies to any form of psychosis as again, I myself experience double bookkeeping yet do not have a psychotic spectrum disorder. (Please don't start)

❝The content of typical delusions in schizophrenia is frequently colored by metaphysical, eschatological, or charismatic themes. The latter refers to issues concerning the meaning and purpose of human life, where patients may feel to have a central position, to be chosen for a special mission where the meaning of their life reveals itself to them (“charisma” means divine gift). The former refers to issues concerning respectively the essence of Being or existence (i.e., the schizophrenia cosmology is often of a magical character, consisting of a struggle between good and evil forces, or is penetrated by energies, rays, waves and so forth) and ultimate issues such as universal peace or the end of the world. Along the same line, Sass proposed that delusions in schizophrenia rather than being concerned with the mundane (ontic) issues focus on the very (ontological) horizons of human existence. He emphasizes that the patient lives in a double reality with his delusional conviction forming a part of the reality with a “subjectivized” quality that is unconnected to the intersubjective world.❞

Now, this next part also relies on not only the immortal Volo theory, but the theory that he is the hiker who knows too much™ in Pokemon Platinum and HGSS.

❝Hello, how do you do? I'm a student of philosophy. If I had to explain very simply, I study how people came to be. That could explain why I happen to be in Sinnoh. In Sinnoh, there is a myth on how the world came into existence. Investigating that myth may give me insight on the emergence of people.❞

I won't copy-paste all of the hiker's dialogue because it is a lot, but the way the hiker speaks— with the charisma and excitement about something actually rather similar to what Volo says in the above screenshots plus the explicit mention of the Lake Spirits, Arceus*, Dialga and Palkia*, and has been in possession of several Arcean plates— it's practically all but confirmed that that hiker is actually him ("could just be a coincidence" well, that's one hell of a coincidence)

*A pokemon that paradoxically has a pokedex entry for almost all generations since first appearing yet very few appear to know of their existence. Those few being the Aether foundation, presumably the professors, and obviously the Celestica. With the way the pokemon world is, knowledge of Arceus' existence as anything beyond myth is very clearly not common knowledge, and is mentioned by name outside of pokedexes by only three people: Cynthia, Volo, and the hiker. A bit odd for Arceus to be mentioned by name by two Celestica and then there's this random hiker.

*Not as notable as Arceus, but the Celestica did worship Dialga and Palkia as their gods back in ancient Hisui. Additionally, the explicit mention of the Lake Spirits along with the above screenshots in addition to Volo having talked about myths pertaining to each of the Lake Spirits at their respective lakes is very peculiar.

Now what does this have to do with the quoted segment of the double bookkeeping paper? Let's just go with the belief that the hiker is in fact Volo for the sake of conciseness. Volo in modern Sinnoh shows a prominent display for ontology (and by extension metaphysicality) and cosmology when he infodumps.

Now, I want to make this clear

This is not the same as it being delusions. He just has a fascination for it. However, given his dialogue at Spear Pillar and how everything will cease to be once he subjugates Arceus, attains their power, and destroys and recreates the world anew, his delusions very obviously have charismatic theming. While eschatological feels like something reminiscent of Volo, we have nothing concrete due to again, not knowing enough about him. Headcanoning it is of course applicable as something someone's personal interpretation of his character could have, but there's nothing to back it up as something he displays in canon.

Anyway, after checking through my sources and making sure I understood everything I was writing as I've re-written almost this entire analysis, I stumbled upon a true epiphany to explain Volo's form of psychosis that isn't schizophrenia.

One thing that consistently but not strongly puzzled me was why Volo hardly displayed any other symptoms of psychosis until Spear Pillar (this is, of course, taking into consideration our limited knowledge of him, therefore there's not much to work with anyway). The battle at Spear Pillar is the defining point indicative of psychosis, and with his delusions being a factor in why he acts to achieve his goal— that is, he has a lot of motivation and self-efficacy to enact his delusion and his overall desire for a new world free from pain and suffering (I do want to note that his desire and belief for creating a new world is not his delusion, it has been clearly stated earlier so if one had that misconception, I recommend rereading the analysis with knowledge that that is incorrect).

So his psychotic symptoms are overall very few from what little we know of him but spike at Spear Pillar. There are several forms psychosis can appear in that isn't tied to a psychotic spectrum disorder or even a personality disorder such as BPD.

❝Other specified schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. The DSM-5 introduces this subcategory to provide for the diagnosis of four conditions involving psychotic symptoms that do not meet full criteria for any of the schizophrenia spectrum disorders but nonetheless are issues of clinical concern. Below are examples of clinical presentations to which the “other specified” designation applies.

•Persistent auditory hallucinations, denoting the persistent presence of auditory hallucinations occurring in the absence of other psychotic features.

•Delusions with significant overlapping mood episodes, which is most appropriately used when a patient otherwise meeting criteria for delusional disorder also experiences overlapping mood episodes for a substantial portion of the delusional disturbance.

•Attenuated psychosis syndrome, which describes a condition in which psychotic-like symptoms are present but are less severe and more transient than in schizophrenia, and for which insight is relatively maintained.

•Delusional symptoms in a partner of individual with delusional disorder (formerly named shared psychotic disorder, also known as folie a` deux), a rare condition in which delusions develop in an individual who is involved in a close relationship with an individual with prominent delusions. The previously unaffected partner’s delusions take on the content of the dominant partner’s delusions.❞

But this isn't what sparked the epiphany, it was actually something that I just so happened to find among the sources I already had that backed up my epiphany. The true spark of the epiphany was this:

Psychotic Depression

❝The cause of psychotic depression is not fully understood. It's known that there's no single cause of depression and it has many different triggers.

Many people with psychotic depression will have experienced adversity in childhood, such as a traumatic event.❞

❝Depression with symptoms of psychosis is a severe form of depression in which a person experiences psychosis symptoms, such as delusions (disturbing, false fixed beliefs) or hallucinations (hearing or seeing things others do not hear or see).❞

❝Depression can also involve other changes in mood or behavior that include:

•Increased anger or irritability

•Feeling restless or on edge

•Becoming withdrawn, negative, or detached

•Increased engagement in high-risk activities

•Greater impulsivity

•Increased use of alcohol or drugs

•Isolating from family and friends

•Inability to meet the responsibilities of work and family or ignoring other important roles

•Problems with sexual desire and performance

Depression can look different in men and women. Although men, women, and people of all genders can feel depressed, how they express those symptoms and the behaviors they use to cope with them may differ.❞

How many of these apply to Volo from just this list of depression symptoms alone can be easily noted from the information earlier in this analysis. The context for the job one may be slightly different for Volo, but could still apply since we don't know if the context actually is "laziness", or off doing what he wants instead, or anything else not being indicative of depression based on this piece of dialogue. Again, he's good at "masking" in that way.

We get the tiniest sliver of melancholy from Volo at the Giratina statue right before he goes off the deep end and... that's it. We get hardly anything about Volo beyond his charismatic hope-for-the-best personality before he flips like a switch and we get whiplash from how utterly different he acts at Spear Pillar to the point of making many people believe his personality from everywhere prior to that point as being fake. Mind you, a person can be charismatic but still very much depressed; charisma and happiness (for lack of being able to think of a better term, but you understand. non-depression) are not wholly exclusive to one another.

Given what Volo says during that one moment, and what comes after with his behavior during the battle— him hurling insults and threats*— he is very obviously not okay. It's a very sad and despairing way to look at the world. To see all life as something that has, is, or will inevitably suffer and go through great pain and that all life is a tragedy that has happened, is happening, or will happen. To feel this heartache and to feel in your heart and mind that things don't have to be this way. That things could be better and there is no reason why they have been this way, are this way, and will continue as far as you know to be this way. And god exists in this world. And god is the one who shaped reality and made the rules. God is said to be loving, yet not just allowed— because that on its own would imply that the rules predate god— but created these rules. And what kind of loving and benevolent god would do that?

He has definitive proof that god exists— that Arceus exists— and rather than allow a world such as this continue when it shouldn't have ever been this way, or is so believed. Because there is no conceivable reason why life has to be unfair. I know this because I feel exactly the same. And I also know that there can't truly be a world with no pain or suffering because such a concept only applies to humans. What about all other living beings? How would anything exist? Living beings need to eat and use the lives of others to survive. What about the trees that need to be felled in a pre-industrial age to build? What about the plants and animals that need sustenance (not all plants photosynthesize)?

Plants can feel pain, it's just widely believed they can't because they don't communicate on a level humans understand. And that's just physical pain, but you get the idea— it doesn't make sense when you finally look upon such a tunnelvisioned despairing outlook with genuine clarity. Such a concept for a "world without pain or suffering" seems like an abstract utopia that gives the anguished mind a life-line to hold on to, to see it as something that could possibly even be made reality if it doesn't exist in some universe already. But it is an inherently selfish concept not just due to one using their own suffering as the basis upon which they view the world and its inhabitants, but because it only applies to humans.

*Volo tells Laventon that he still looks forward to the completion of the pokedex, something he wouldn't nor didn't have to tell Laventon, not to mention have him pass that on to the very child he scorned if all he felt towards that child was a visceral hate. Plus even though he threatened that he wasn't above taking the plates by force if necessary, he doesn't act on that threat (he does still very much tell Giratina to kill a 15 year old, though).

End Note

❝In connection to double bookkeeping it is striking that even though primary delusions are in no way corrigible, because of the delusional conviction described above, they are usually never enacted.❞

If this is the case, then why did Volo enact his delusion? A straightforward answer would obviously be that he isn't canonically psychotic so it doesn't matter, but when a character displays symptoms similar to those of a mental illness— a heavily demonized one at that— it doesn't matter whether it's canon or not, because this is still a character that even if by coincidence acts and can be seen as having that particular mental illness. With the language that was used back in 2022 to describe and talk about Volo, by calling him a psychopath, deranged, insane, completely manipulative, evil, etc, in conjunction with a lot of ableist art and misconceptions made about him, it doesn't matter that he isn't canonically psychotic.

Many people showed their true colors when talking about him as a character and Do.Not come at me about how fiction doesn't affect reality because I won't tolerate it. The way Volo was treated back in 2022 was abysmal (and that's putting it lightly). If you truly think people who experience psychosis or have otherwise have had those ableist/sanist terms used to describe them or others with their mental illness(es) don't see the way people talked about this particular fictional character from pokemon of all things, you could not be any more ignorant if you tried.

There are still those that act ableist in their portrayal of Volo but I don't believe it's anywhere near as bad as it was back in 2022.

While GameFreak most likely didn't create Volo with full knowledge of how psychosis and other mental illnesses that can have psychosis are demonized to hell and back despite the people who have those mental illnesses being more of a threat to themselves than anyone else and aren't Evil Incarnate™, it is still possible they created Volo with these specific "troubling" characteristics in mind completely separate from the real life mental illness that these characteristics are symptoms of. Given how Pokemon Legends Arceus in general glorifies colonization in many horrible ways*, it's not that surprising that they'd do something like this with their secret main antagonist.

*Most notable being that Kamado, the lead colonizer, is forgiven despite his xenophobia and blatant disrespect for the culture and land that isn't his, while Volo, a man indigenous to Hisui, as he is Celestica and their home was Hisui— whereas the Diamond and Pearl clans moved to Hisui from elsewhere— isn't forgiven or even given a chance for forgiveness. He just walks off to never be seen again. The saddened look the protagonist gives him over their shoulder does not serve as forgiveness, especially since many people from what I've seen misconstrued the very obvious look of sadness for anger or contempt.

It also really doesn't help that with what this analysis serves to show, Volo can be seen as psychotic-coded which makes his unforgiven demonized antagonist status even worse. I'm going to just link this post by @/sage-nebula as they go into more depth in explaining just how bad PLA's glorification of colonization is.

Gamefreak, whether it was genuinely unintentional or not, ultimately created a character that when closely analyzed from a certain perspective can be deemed as having psychosis in at least some form— and when combined with his too-little-too-late backstory, has led to a very large portion of the Western fandom to forgo analysis of any complexity he has in favor of perceiving him as a "one-note evil manipulative character".

It's a slippery slope that many have fallen down and see it as "not a big deal" or "not that deep" because it's not only fiction, but pokemon, yet those same people recognize and respect the complexity of other characters in this same media. (I have seen N compared as being similar to Volo, for instance. Because y'know.

And there is of course now, Arven as a complex character.)

【A pet peeve of mine are those who believe Volo is immortal yet is "still manipulative and scheming" after centuries have passed. Either these people don't have a proper understanding of mental illness when it comes to the passage of time, or they're doing it for the Angst™. Or both. Yes, Volo stated that he didn't care if it would take centuries for him to find a way to conquer Arceus, but people change. If Volo truly is the hiker, then you've got proof right there. I just cannot fathom the idea that after hundreds of years that he wouldn't change or grow as a person at all.】

Again I reiterate what I've said in the first part of this and that's that I don't expect everyone who reads this to drop everything and adopt this headcanon especially because we only know so much about Volo and this headcanon is built on many inferences and, at its core, my own interpretation of him. I am a person who really likes analysis and figuring out why a character acts the way they do in as much an in-universe way as possible but I am not above just going "It's bad writing 🙃".

This analysis is basically: there is further meaning and explanation in Volo's actions that can be gleaned if you look at it in a very specific way that the writers may or may not have intended, but I'm going to write about it anyway. ¯\_(¬_¬)_/¯

Progress with Iv'a

Last session I think I only got one scene which was Astarion's vamp reveal. Well today I think I got like genuinely 10? (defining this as non-repeatable conversations engaged by NPCs) I only played for like 2 hours too, so I guess I just set myself up well the other day. MAJOR Spoilers below for Act 1.

I was VERY strategic about approval with Astarion because the first run that I made purposely to romance him ended up in the garbage (RIP Vilara) because I was trying to do too many things. Well I sort of have the opposite problem now where we haven't even taken down the Goblin camp and I have him at Very High, which has never happened before. So for the first time I got the non-party version of the sex proposal.

With that considered, today I got the post hunter convo, the sex scene proposal, the sex scene, the artifact bridge scene, the fever scene with Lae'zel, the first guardian scene, Gale's reveal scene, and Gale teaching magic. Plus I did Abdirak's punishment, Volo's surgery, and the shadow druid scene which don't really count but are still fun.

Because of the way I was focusing Astarion's approval, I wanted to do as much as I could before I did the goblin village so I could try and get the non-party proposal. So last play session was a lot of setting up for quests I would complete after his approval was high enough. Also I'm not sure if I accidentally changed a setting or something because I saw WAY more of Astarion naked than I remember. I don't know how to flag it so i won't include that SS, but I didn't even realize you can see everything until after.

I feel like. Marriage just would a conversation like, "we're spouses now, okay" in Hisui bc there's no way the Galaxy Team will recognise anything officially, and also, I don't think there's like anything else to it. (Not that it isn't a romantic concept to make a quietly agreed upon promise to spend the rest of your lives together, but I just feel like it will be overshadowed.)

Oh Wow! I didn’t expect that you would like my dream idea so much you even draw something for it. THANK YOU! 😭 you’re so kind and sweet!

I’ve been thinking a bit more about this AU since last time. There is of course Akari's Pokémon. They would be so happy to know their Trainer is still around but I don’t think she would have them around since she isn’t human at the moment. And she think it’s awkward to command Pokémon as a Pokémon herself.

Also to raise the stakes a bit I think I’ll have Volo returning. I know it’s rather unpopular to have him fill the villain role but I think if he got word of what happened to Arceus chosen one and he is still close by he would definitely try again to get Arceus attention.

Also I think that Akari prefers to keep her condition a secret at first. Who knows what could happen if they find out she’s a ghost Type Pokémon now. But it will come out eventually. (Ingo himself would be very protective of her, he thought he lost her once so there is no way he let something happen to her…) also YES she definitely gets her own tiny satchel where she gathers things. Also I’m not sure how she feels about battling yet but I think it’s going to be inevitable for her at some point.

I’m still so happy to have gotten something out of sharing my AU! And that it seems even others think it’s a neat idea. It makes me happy it got positive response! Thank you again for the lovely sketches and thank you everyone else for liking my little idea! 💖

More interesting ideas!! Akari’s Pokémon would be so so happy to see her again (and if you imagine she has a hisuian typhlosion, as they are connected with spirits, or other ghost-type Pokémon on her team, that would an entertaining concept to work with!).

And the way you put it, I see Volo being put in more of an adversary role than a villain, if that makes sense? He did wander off to do some soul searching at the end of the game, but it’s interesting to propose what he would do if he saw Arceus’ ‘chosen’ has fallen, and what this could mean for him. (So you’re good!)

And yes, protective Ingo ;v; he won’t lose her twice!! It would make sense for Akari to want to hide her new condition from others (it would be hard to show herself to her Galaxy Team friends, and perhaps it would not be wise to show herself to the more superstitious people… Pearl Clan?), so Ingo would do his best to help keep her safe.

Also!! Akari is a Pokémon in every sense of the word now (at least until they reverse what happened). He would need to keep her out of sight from anyone who attempts to catch her, a “new Pokémon” unknown to the region.

There is a lot to keep her safe from!! But Akari can do pretty well on her own. She has things like attacks now!!

why had he allowed himself to get this attached to the point that he proposed to her ? he had said to himself, years ago, that he would never marry again. that it was a mistake. men like him didn't deserve that kind of happiness, he just ... he didn't know what came over him a few days ago, & already, he's feeling regret in his decisions. his love life was never the same after her ... the woman that deprived him of becoming a father. he had hurt her, lashed out in his anger ; it disturbed him that he was capable of that. sure, he was aggressive as a yakuza, but that was a whole other ordeal. the fact he laid hand on a woman in such a way ...

cogita was already reassuring him, telling him this time would be different ... but would it ? what if cogita did something that caused him to snap ... to lash out again ? he wouldn't forgive himself if he did that. if he did that, he would take his own tanto blade ... & slice his own neck with it ... he would have no desire to live on if this was the vicious cycle his love life was going to take.

he wanted to have hope that it could be different this time, but something in the back of his mind just kept getting louder ... telling him he's going to harm cogita. he'll be no better than volo. cogita deserves better. the woman's suffered enough without majima coming into the equation.

a tear was running out of his eye. he didn't want to leave cogita ... but he didn't want the possibility of him harming her. he felt marriage would open that possibility up. his mental state was a mess, his outlook on love was a whole mess to begin with. he felt like a monster.

Volos, Greece

Volos is a coastal city in central Greece and home to AGET Heracles, the largest cement factory in Greece and one of the largest in Europe. In 2014, AGET was granted a permit that allowed them to burn up to 200,000 tonnes of “alternative fuels” to use in cement production. These were mostly RDF, Refuse-Derived Fuel, AKA energy coming from the incineration of trash (particularly trash that cannot be otherwise recycled or reused). Of course, the factory and the broader cement industry tries to greenwash initiatives like this, claiming that they are limiting emissions by using a non-primary material as an energy source, and limiting the amount of waste going into landfills. Furthermore, cement factories receive state-funding for burning alternative fuels like RDF AND SRF, making it an extremely profitable enterprise.

But obviously incinerating trash does not reduce emissions and there are serious consequences of burning hazardous industrial waste and certain types of plastics, for example. These turn into harmful air pollutants that disperse and affect all living organisms. The likelihood of hazardous materials being mixed into non-hazardous waste and incinerated indiscriminately is exacerbated by geopolitical dimensions. This is because the trash that AGET incinerates to generate power is not from local areas, but is actually primarily imported from Southern Italy, an area with extensive corruption and mismanagement within the waste industry (I made a short post about the consequences of this in the Campania region a while ago). The company that owns the cement factory, LafargeHolcim, has even acknowledged themselves that they cannot confirm whether the fuels they produce are from hazardous or non-hazardous waste.

Considering that the cement factory is less than 200 meters from residential areas, it’s no surprise that local inhabitants are facing serious health threats. From an article titled “Greece: Air, Water, and Democracy:”

“According to a June report by the research team at the department of Mechanical Engineering of University of Thessaly, an increased presence of the dangerous air pollutant PM2.5 was detected in the air in Volos, exceeding WHO’s standards by 200% and Greek legislation by 20.12% during the 12-month monitoring period. A recent morbidity and mortality study by the medical school of the University of Thessaly showed a significant increase in cases of some types of cancers as well as strokes in Volos and the wider region of Magnesia compared to rest of Greece’s average, without however clarifying the causes.”

There is now discussion of a new plant being created in Volos, for Solid Recover Fuel, or SRF. This plant was proposed partially in response to people’s worries about importing trash from places like Southern Italy (as well as Spain and even Morocco) and the fact that the quality of this trash is often unknown (containing hazardous materials, etc.). This plant would therefore process local trash. However it has a significantly smaller capacity for producing SRF (18,000 tonnes per year) than the capacity that AGET has for burning (200,000 tonnes), so it is most likely a scheme to siphon government funds into the pockets of the plant owners, while continuing to import trash to meet the demands of the cement production.

There are also local struggles in Volos against the privatization of water sources and towards establishing a more transparent and democratic administration.

Another final note is the connection between this situation in Volos and the death of a young anarchist activist, Vasilis Maggos. Maggos was at a demonstration against AGET and its pollution on June 13, 2020, when ten police officers brutally assaulted him, breaking seven of his ribs and damaging vital organs, subsequently locking him up and humiliating him. A month later, he was dead and his family maintains that it was because he succumbed to his injuries inflicted by the police. Yet again, we see to what ends the elite will go to in order to protect their capitalist paradise... in this case using state-sanctioned executioners to violently crush peaceful protests, in which people express their desire for a life in which they are not being poisoned, stolen from, and used as mere expendable pawns in the game for profit. ......
