some issues I have with the proshipping community as someone sorta align with it.
This ain’t for antishippers so go away.
To preface this, I do align myself with the dead dove do not eat community and write what you want. I know technically it would make me a proshipper, but I do have a lot of issues with how proshippers handle race related stuff in fandoms and how some ignorance make spaces unwelcoming for people of color.
While I don’t think proshippers are anywhere near comparable to antishippers and their behaviors, I do think proshippers have the potential of creating their own echo chambers and being extreme in an “Us vs Them” they critique antishippers of doing.
One example is anyone have a discomfort to certain ships, tropes, or trigger warnings, which is FINE. Not everyone is comfortable with dead dove and I understand that. I understand that my works aren’t for everyone and I do my best to tag triggers and warn people before reading my works. I also have my own squicks when it comes to fiction, but I don’t harass anyone over it. For the extreme proshippers, some act if you have any discomfort and simply voice is (not everyone attacking anyone and looking down on others who enjoy it) you are labeled an anti. Or if you state not liking it, all of sudden, you should keep your opinions to yourself despite wanting people to have the freedom of how they can enjoy media.
This also goes into seeing anyone who have those discomforts as “sensitive” and not practicing basic decency of tagging your works as dead dove. A lot of proshippers equate any criticism of fiction as anti rhetoric even though criticism of fiction will always exist. If you put out art, you will be criticized. Sure, some criticism are hated disguised in it, but in terms of general discussion of published media and problematic issues in it, that has ALWAYS existed. Media studies, feminism media studies, etc. have existed longer than the stupid antiship vs proship discourse in fandoms. Someone pointing out problematic things in a media isn’t immediately anti rhetoric because published media hold a different responsibility to their audience than fanfic writers. Fanfiction is no where near as far reaching as published media that has the potential of reaching millions of people. That’s why when antis bring up “fictional can affect reality,” I don’t believe fanfiction can do that because its a very niche thing that most people interacting with it knows better. Published media has a different responsibility, thats why ratings exists, and the FTC is a thing in the US.
And criticism isn’t bad! I get a lot of proshippers are hyper vigilant due to harassment in the past, but some of you go extreme on this opinion that any criticism is bad and that it doesn’t belong in fandoms. You’re not oppressed or being censored if your fanworks are being criticized. It’s still posted on AO3 and it will only be taken down if you wish it too. It’s like celebrities crying about cancel culture when it’s just online backlash that has no effect on the real world whatsoever. Some of y’all sound like anti woke cancel culture right winger when you complain about supposed “internet warriors” taking your right to create away. They’re not! Let’s not act like antishippers have any power to ever bring censorship laws, only politicians who don’t even know fanfiction exists.
Now this moves on the topic of racism in fandoms. This is where the problematic term of “fandom policing” comes up when half of the time its people of color, queer people, or women discussing how bigotry is rampant in fanbases. Look at the Star Wars fandom, any time a white character is race bent, video games, that exists. Which makes it frustrating that some proshippers treat these discussion as fandom policing or anti rhetoric. It’s not. I have had instances of proshippers trying to excuse racism that happens in fanbases as if I am misinterpreting it or its not racist because the fans have other reasons why they’re ranting about this media. I was also told by one proshipper because they, who is white, that they never encountered racism in the Star Wars fandom even though that shit had started with the first teaser trailer of the Force Awakens. Or they try to make it seems that the angry Star Wars fans who are mad about a black stormtropper existing is NOT racism, but because of established lore not being held up by Disney. (Which, none of the movies have explicitly said stormtroopers are white and ugh).
It’s also ridiculous how white proshipers are allowed the space to vent about being accused of racism by fandom members. I can agree that some accusations are ridiculous, especially ones made by antishippers, but half of it is because white proshippers insert themselves in discussion of racism started by fans of colors and whitesplain to them that it’s not racism and do the same excusal shit that I was met with. I get trying to defend your favorite media, but let people vent. Fans of colors aren’t given the luxury. For some reason, if you complain about racism perpetrated by fans or how the media they like have issues with bigotry, all of sudden its “you bringing politics in fandom spaces” and white proshippers are only using fandoms to “escape reality.” So are fans of color? I would love to use fiction to escape reality, but its hard when racism is rampant in your fandom circles or seeing characters of color being treated poorly in canon. Like cmon. Stop with the double standards.
It’s annoying how much care that both proshippers and antishippers have when it comes to fiction and fictional characters, but not towards people in real life. Or that racial experiences committed by either side are ignored. Both sides act like they’re oppressed over the most chronically online shit ever. Or that anyone with a differing opinion is immediately label the other side. While proshippers don’t do harassment campaigns or force themselves into anti spaces for the purpose of doxxing, it doesn’t make them automatically safe for everyone, especially for people of color.
And please stop with the ageism towards younger people. Not every anti are “puriteens,” I seen a lot of antishippers within the 20-30 age range.

GloMas asks
Anonymous asked:
Woke up randomly in the middle of the night thinking about if Azul topped Idia, Malleus, and Rollo in the Masquerade event.
I can imagine he'd do it as a display of control, the adrenaline he'd get from Malleus if Malleus agreed would be indescribable. Idia could be the one to build up his confidence in the situation and Rollo is just a victim of circumstance lmao
+
Anonymous asked:
Not sure if you guys read the GloMas event but since it's dropping (and since EN will most likely censor the hell out of it) again, what about AzuRollo? I'd ask about the other two ssr boys but they're on your bottom list sadly. I just feel like something should've been done with Rollo's whole "do whatever you want with me, I've already lost everything" thing at the end.
+
Anonymous asked:
Just out of curiosity with Rollo (the bottom supporter Anon here once again!) do you have any specific pairings with him? Like MalleRollo?
-----------------
Hi to all the Anons in this post; I decided to reply to all of you at once because we realised that one reply kind of bleeds into another, and by the way I’m putting all of these together you might already know what I’m about to talk about lol
But I’ll actually start by replying to the third Anon: we don’t really have any solid ship with Rollo now. MalleRollo confused us a lot, because their interactions were definitely flirty on Malleus’ part, but since we see both of them as bottoms, it didn’t really click with us. Or maybe it didn’t click with us, and this is why both of them are bottoms… I’m not sure what came first lol But yeah, I said it at some point already, but we’re getting solid “I’m tickling you, come on, tickle me back” vibes from the way Malleus acts towards Rollo and angry tsundere sounds from Rollo himself, which is obvious and lovely and fun, but just… a liiittle off/not enough, I guess? It’s a personal thing, as always.
But Rollo is very fun himself and has such a wonderful potential for either shipping or sexual scenarios. Of course, he fits nicely with the randos from his academy, and any other mob-type character, but what about any ships with our NRC boys?
And this is where Azul comes in handy lol And while AzuRollo isn’t really a ship that sails and burns everyone around it with its sheer power for us (…yet?), there really could be some potential with them. Their dynamic is also interesting, with Azul being overly sweet and nice, while also thinking that Rollo is a naive righteous prick that should be easy to fool; and Rollo just straight-up calling Azul a scoundrel and telling him that he feels that he has bad intentions.
Plus, like the second Anon mentioned, something really has to be done with Rollo’s "do whatever you want with me, I've already lost everything" thing. Like come on, he is a nicely-packaged present with a shiny bow on his head, please someone come take him lol Waiting for Azul to say “don’t mind if I do”
(also you’ve pointed out how the EN version is going to censor the event, and god how I hate even thinking about it, you are so so right :”))
Now, the first Anon. This makes way to much sense and I honestly feel so happy for Azul... Look at him go, topping three people in one day, and such a powerful bunch of people!! Azul feels like the type of person who would miraculously find energy after achieving something as exciting and impressive as grabbing Malleus Draconia himself by his horns, so Rollo is probably going to get the worst treatment when it comes to Azul’s horny feralness lol Truly, a trip to remember.
And of course, we should all thank Idia for building his confidence up and giving him a warm-up. After all that, Malleus is probably going to be the only one who isn’t completely exhausted and a little bit (or not) ashamed of himself…..

I guess I'll make one of these... hello to the 4 people who follow me <3
I'm Logan, a 27yr old genderqueer trans man. He/him. Bisexual.
I like anime, cosplaying & sewing in general, DND, my horrible little gremlin cat D.Va, and some fandoms I'm gonna mention a lil further down
If I follow you and you read this, my only tagging request for anyone I follow is to tag sn*kes. If you have a special system for tagging triggers or animals or whatever, I will blacklist whatever you use. If you do not, I blacklist pretty much any possible way I can get my blacklist to keep it off my dash. *Note: I only censored the word here because I don't want this to be in the tags somehow, or for the stupid suggested blogs algorithm to suggest me a billion blogs about them. Is this paranoid? Absolutely, but I'm doing it anyway.
Other blogs:
Cosplay
➤hikkikoumori-cosplay
➤I also post all my cosplay on instagram @/hikkikoumori
The Adventure Zone / Mcelroys / DND
➤autisticangus
➤I do not reblog Mcelroys or any DND to my main blog
System blog
➤soundscapesystem
I like being open about my mental health struggles. Tumblr has always been a place I allow myself to be open about these since I spend so much time IRL trying to seem normal. I say this because there are negative stereotypes of those who list their illnesses in their bio, but I've decided I don't give a shit 👍
➤Dissociative Identity Disorder
➤Autism
➤ADHD
➤Narcissistic Personality Disorder
➤Bipolar Type 1
I also "kin for fun" or whatever we're calling it now:
➤Bro Strider
➤Junkrat
➤Keiichi Maebara
➤Dirk Strider
Fandoms you might see me post + #tags:
➤Overwatch + #ovw
➤Homestuck + #hs
➤Cardcaptor Sakura + #ccs
➤Other CLAMP works +#clamp
➤Higurashi When They Cry + #higu
➤Rena Ryuugu specifically + #she!!!
➤KeiRena + #they!!!
➤Zombie Land Saga + #zls
➤House MD + hmd

Other tags:
➤My posts + #logan.txt
➤Bats + #bats!!!
➤Dogs + #dogs!!!
➤My partner <3 + #ray tag
➤Narcissist posts + npd tag
I don't like DNIs, so instead here's some things that might make me fit your DNI:
➤Pro-fiction. Human beings and fictional characters are different. If you ask me if I'm "pro-ship or anti-ship" I would say pro-ship.
➤Transandrophobia is real. I've heard all the excuses to not use this word and to use a different word, but I think they're stupid.
➤Identities that seem contradictory, make no sense to me, or seemingly don't fit my understanding of that identities definition aren't for me, and therefore it doesn't fucking matter if I get it or not. Identities are for the person doing the identifying. You can do whatever you want forever.
➤As a DID system, I try not to interact with syscourse. I have personal opinions about endogenic systems that I don't really discuss publicly. I don't hate endo systems, but I do typically avoid them. I may overlook it in some situations, like if its rarely blogged about, because this avoidance is due to not wanting so many posts about endos on my dash rather than a dislike for the actual person behind the blog. My opinions are more nuanced than "valid or not valid" and I don't care to get into it any deeper than that with a complete stranger.

@livingincolorsagain Okay, so first of all:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seriously though, unforunately it looks like I can no longer answer your long-awaited ask because I just saved my response to your inbox in the drafts and apparently that just deleted both your ask and my answer?!?! It looks like it's just been completely gone for no reason?!?!?!?! Tumblr: WHY????????? (Btw this is my shorter back up draft so luckily I at least have this lol)
Now... I cannot say this enough... I'M SO SORRY FOR TAKING SO BLOODY LONG to do this. I think it has taken me about 1 ½ years to do this?!?! I'm so freaking embarrassed omfg. There really is no good excuse for why it has taken so freaking long. I remember that I have at least a few drafts that I made, but then my drafts became like this-
Tumblr media
-and then I either forgot about it completely or got overwhelmed when I couldn't find any of the drafts and just abandoned it. My ability to just "nope" out of anything and procrastinate for eternity is unmatched.
Btw: I'm gonna censor most of the fandom/character/ship names (even the ones I like) because 1. I don't want to attract people who feel the need to argue with me (because I cba I really cba) and 2. I don't want to offend anyone who likes those things. It's gonna look super silly with *s everywhere but I don't have the energy for any heated discussions or arguments.
-
1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?
Ooh I have several squicky ships that I do get but I just don't feel them at all and have negative connotations associated with them... It's not exactly an answer to the question but it is what I first thought of.
Pre 2020 me didn't like Harm*one as a ship (in H*rry P*tter). Nowadays I don't interact with the fandom so I don't care but I still have negative associations with that ship and its fans.
I don't have any positive associations with Cl*uis (in TW*DG) because of bigotry.
I understand the appeal of E*yam (from C*kur) but it's a toxic, abusive, insulting mess like its fanbase. Man, I'm so glad C*kur ended in 2021 so I could leave that show and its fans behind.
I also used to feel more negative towards R*xi (from E*phoria) as a ship because of shippers' attitudes towards J*les/R*les but since F*xi became really popular I don't see nearly as much of that ship anymore.
I'll explain the reasonings more in the next question because the answers in both questions are pretty similar.
Also, to sprinkle some positivity amongst my mostly critical answers, here are some OTPs that I do like:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
7. Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?
Again, this applies to me pre 2020, but I still remember that I used to somewhat like Harm*one as a ship from H*rry P*tter, but yeah... the portion of toxic fans who were super hateful and bitter and straight up mean towards R*n and G*nny.
I used to like L*ouis and sorta like Cl*uis from TW*DG but the homophobic/lesbophobic/biphobic fans have pretty much turned me off from the ship completely. This doesn't really apply to fans on here, moreso YouTube fans who are just The Worst tbh.
Similarly I used to like E*sun from C*kur and back in season 3 but E*yam fans (particularly on Twitter and YouTube) were just horrible. I remember being civil and polite and considerate to every single one I encountered but they were awful and one fan even wished death on my family when I had said nothing to warrant such a bizarre comment lol. They were also The Worst towards D*lan D*niz and their relentless bullying campaign against her from 2019-2021 (but I saw a few months ago that they're still hating on her in 2023 ffs), all because she was a "threat" to their toxic ship. Man, I'm so glad their ship flopped in C*kur's finale, even if it was upsetting to see them being more hateful towards D*lan. They deserved some karma after being some of the worst fans I've ever had the misfortune of seeing.
Again for positivity's sake, here are some characters I do like:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
12. Is there an unpopular arc that you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?
Unlike seemingly most of the fans on here, I like El*ven getting with M*ke in Str*nger Th*ngs. I will never understand why M*leven is so hated. She can be both independent and in a relationship, and I don't see how that's such an unpopular take. Sure, there are issues with codependency, miscommunication and lying but considering what those kids have been through, is it any surprise?! They've both been through so much trauma, both together and separately, so no wonder they don't always go about the things the "best" way. I'd cut them both some slack (especially El*ven considering the hell she's endured all her life that has stunted her growth). Also, I feel like fans are way too harsh of them because aren't they supposed to be around 14 in season 4?!?! I'd say that they're remarkably mature for their age. I will admit that I like them less than I used to after season 4 but tbf there are several characters/relationships that I like less because of season 4. I like other ships like B*ler and E*max but I don't see why liking them should almost become synonymous with hating M*leven.
On another note, this scene >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Again I'm so sorry this took so long, and that this version of my answer isn't the final one that I wanted to send (because Tumblr just erased the original one lmao).
Thank you so, so much for checking up on me and being so kind and sweet to me, even when I haven't responded or showed the gratitude that I should do!!!! I hope you're doing really well!!!!!! <3

FAQ
Please read the FULL THING before sending an ask. It’s not that long I promise you. Or maybe it is I keep editing it
What’s your name?
That’s top secret, just call me Mod Polly
Pronouns?
He/him, I have others but I’m not giving myself away THAT easy
Do you hate Sparklecare?
Absolutely not, if I hated it i wouldn’t have made this blog. I just think the fandom is god-awful and that the comic has so much wasted potential. I still regularly keep up with the comic’s updates, follow the blog (alongside the blogs for Kittycorn’s other various projects), and enjoy making fanstuff for it. I am heavily critical of all my interests, especially indie projects since I KNOW those ones don’t have to go through censors and shit.
If you don’t hate it, then what’s this blog for???
This is for me complaining about the fandom, and criticizing the comic. This is essentially a diary of bitching.
I don’t like this blog
Block me, this is my personal diary of bitching. I remember I was in your shoes once, and didn’t like to see criticisms of Sparklecare, so I 100% get it.
Were you sparklecrit?
No. Leave them out of this. They clearly feel remorse for their past actions. Now me on the other hand, I feel bad about none of this XD
Are you gonna post the preboot link?
Absolutely not. I’m not going to disrespect Kittycorn’s wishes. Like I said this is only my personal diary of bitching, nothing more.
Is your main [tumblr user]?
Wouldn’t you like to know, weather boy?
Thoughts on mspec lesbians/gays/contradictory labels in general?
Cool as shit. Do what you want, conservatives want us dead. Polly is a bi lesbian also, she told me this herself.
Thoughts on the preboot?
It’s way funnier and way less “clean”, I’ll give it that. However, the reboot does a better attempt when it comes to characters, keyword attempt. I still miss Knot though.
Favorite character?
If I said my actual fave, I’d be given away. However, I love the side patients/side characters in general.
Least favorite character?
Uni. She’s treated by the fandom like she can do no wrong, and it feels like people only draw her. Because of this it sorta ruined her for me as a character. Sorry Uni.
Favorite ship?
Honest to god I see good chemistry/potential in all of them. I’ve never really been interested in Sparklecare shipping on its own but I enjoy doing it to analyze the characters and whatever the fuck
Least favorite ship?
Barruni. It’s the only one I see 0 chemistry or interest in, sorry. No hate to anyone who does ship it though!!
What about Cuddles?
Cuddles doesn’t feel like a character to me. He’s not interesting enough for me to hate that much. I don’t like him either, by any stretch of the imagination. I just forget he exists.
What do the tags mean?
“Fandom bitching” is for bitching about the fandom, “reboot bitching” is for bitching about the reboot, “comet bitching” is for any bitching regarding the Cometcare AU askblog, which will probably be few and far between let’s be real here, and “preboot bitching” is for bitching about the preboot because I WILL criticize the preboot as well. All criticisms/bitching will be tagged “sparklecriticism”. “Not bitching” is for general posts, and “Polly speaks” is for general posts from Polly. “Sparkleposting” is about my general, standard Sparklecare posts, usually regarding the version of it that exists in my brain. The "asks" tag is self-explanatory, and "your bitching" is bitching sent in by VIEWERS LIKE YOU!!!!!!
Are you trans/queer/nd/mentally Ill/disabled?
I’ve been a fan of this comic since late 2021, what the fuck do you think. Yes to all 5.
Will you be tagging character neg?
No. This is sparklecriticism what did you expect. I will however tag ship neg as “[ship] neg”, though you’ll probably only see that for Barruni.
Are you a troll?
No.
Why are you doing this???
I believe anything worth a damn is worthy of criticism. I also want to see if anyone else agrees with me here. Sparklecare is a spinterest of mine, I care about it a lot. It’s why I’m so harsh on it.
Sparklecare’s a spinterest for you?????
Yes, in fact the day I developed it as a major spinterest is the day I started being more harsh on it.
Why don’t you read better comics then?
I do, actually! If you wanna hear the comics I like send me an ask-off anon and I’ll tell you privately :3 webcomics in general are a spinterest of mine actually! It’s why I’m so harsh on them, because I KNOW they can be so much more!!
If you hate bitch on this comic so much, why don’t you make your own comic??
I already did, actually! I’m not sharing it to keep my privacy, but I do in fact have a webcomic! If you wanna see it, send me an ask off-anon and I might send you it in private
How would you feel if someone made a criticism blog based off YOUR comic???
I’d feel honored, honest to god. I would encourage it if you guys knew who/what the fuck I/the comic was

Tumblr media
Thank you for sending these, nonnies! I appreciate you taking the time to send these!
I’ll be sure to use a different name and/or use censors for it!
What I will say is that there’s no way they can just get me off Tumblr. I’ve been on this hellsite since like... 2012 or so? Granted, the only reason I responded was to point out that they were trying to start shit on a post that they just grabbed at random because their comments weren’t even related in the most distant way to my post.
As far as the dumbass who responded to that post, I did block them once I responded. I could tell immediately that their comments had nothing to do with the post and that they tried to warp it into “this is hate for the character and ship” when it wasn’t hate for either of those. It was me pointing out that those types of people are gross for their bi erasure, and in my tags I also expressed that anyone who does that I feel the same way about.
In other words, I know exactly what they’re trying to do, but evidently they can’t read nor comprehend English and so failed to realize the post literally had nothing to do with the characters themselves and was entirely about the circle jerk of bi erasure in their community.
That was it. That was the post lol. If they try to get involved with me or send henchmen after me for advocating against bi erasure, this person is making themselves a problem in a much larger community than the nonsense they pull in the Houses fandom. The post itself wasn’t about their little waifu or ship, so as a group of people they have nothing to use as leverage for “but this is hate!” (especially when it wasn’t in any tag whatsoever to do with FE). The post wasn’t about her or the ship. It was about how stans are not supportive of LGBT+ as long as they continue to exclude, you know, the B part of that term (also hilarious how it’s the stans themselves who take offense simply to that term when the comments have nothing to do with the character at all, and as soon as they see the term they cry “character hate!”... despite it not even being related to the game or its characters, etc even remotely).
So yeah, I may not like the stans but I would like to guess that not all of them are that level of moronic that they would see a post complaining about bi erasure and go “character hate spotted!”. This nutcase just saw the term hooha stans and replied with a post full of incorrect assumptions. On a site like Tumblr, I would very much not recommend bullying someone for defending bi people, lest, again, the person wants even bigger problems than their fictional media.
What they did would be like if I took a post about Ferdinand talking about his morality and then being like “okay, here’s my ship headcanon for Ferdinand and Dorothea”.
Not that I don’t appreciate you two sending these asks! I just really hope their entire fan group is not that idiotic that they would see a comment about LGBT+ and somehow connect that to hate for their faves. Also, Tumblr is kind of my Home Base tee em and I happen to enjoy talking about Ike here, so... no matter how much controversy they start, I’m not really deep in Houses discourse. I’m just cycling through FE as a whole and making posts they don’t care about.
Thanks for caring though, nonnies! I send you huggies and happiness!!!

I hate to say it but the one thing Moms 4 Fascism is doing right actually reading the books that their kids wanna read.
Like I fucking hate those people -- there are dads in the group too -- but it is really important to monitor and talk to your kids about the media they consume. When you do that without the intention of turning them into brainwashed fascists, then you're being a good parent. And I'm speaking from experience here. I did not have very good media literacy growing up. I ended up emulating very, very problematic characters because I didn't understand how or why their behavior was problematic. No one tried to sit down and explain it to me in a way that was not degrading and that made me dig my heels in even more.
If someone had come to me and tried to calmly explain the issue with the media I was consuming, I guarantee I would have listened better.
Like let's look at comic books. A lot of comics and manga are rated T or T+. A T rating means its suitable for ages 13 and up, and T+ is the equivalent of an R-rating which is intended for ages 17 and up. I was parentified growing up and was raising my sister who was a toddler and helping to raise two of my cousins when I first got really into Western comics and started checking them out of the library way back in 2005. I was fifteen years ols. So I did, at one point, tell the children's room librarian that I thought (some) graphic novels should be moved to the Young Adult section of the library.
Like kids over the age of 11 can read whatever the hell they want, ok, but I'm not about to hand a toddler a copy of Berserk or like Marvel's Alias/Jessica Jones or the 2005 Punisher arc.
And apparently the librarians agreed with me and the books did get more popular after being moved to the YA section of the library.
Tumblr media
Like a lot of people don't realize how mature comic books really are because--
They're ignorant elitist snobs who think that comics are for children
They're misogynistic assholes who think girls shouldn't read comics because of bullshit gender roles
They're fucking fascists who believe that comic books are pure evil because of problematic male readers -- AKA radfems peddling gender essentialist bullshit
Anything adapted to film tends to be heavily censored, especially anime
But if you want to see how mature comics can be I always recommend Marvel's 2005 MAX run as those books are very graphic and political and marketed at adult readers. Or just watch any of the Netflix Marvel series which are a lot based off of the 2005 MAX run. Like seriously did y'all not see Wilson Fisk decapitate a man with a car door????
No???
Here ya go.
youtube
And the first season of Jessica Jones is a straight up traumatizing masterpiece of horror.
youtube
But you probably wanna stop after season one cause it gets kinda cringe from there on out. The Defenders series is worth watching as well, but really it's better if you just stick to the books with these. The books are definitely better. Except for the OG Iron Fist cause that entire concept gives off majorly racist white savior vibes but that's a story for another day. Read the newer Iron Fist books where the superhero from Asia that saves Asian people from Asian mafias and is the absolute best at Asian martial arts is now an actual Asian person and not some random white dude👌🏻
Check out Iron Fist: The Shattered Sword by Alyssa Wong here.
Like I had someone tell me that comic books are evil because children will try to emulate super heroes. Believe me, no one wants that so if you're a parent whose having that problem
Make them watch the movie Kick-Ass (2010).
youtube
Or enroll your kid in martial arts. There are also martial arts how-to's on YouTube. Be sure to emphasize that martial arts should only be used for self-defense because cops are fascist dicks and in real life superheroes go to prison. Because the government wants to prevent minorities from staging a potentially violent uprising and usurping their asses to bring about something that might hopefully be better🙃
Ok, you can leave that last part out but its kind of an interesting thought, huh?🤔
But like seriously if people would just monitor the media they're kids consume and talk them about how and why it might be problematic and why they should not emulate certain pieces of media then.....Well, it'd still be an issue cause fascists have and will always exist. Maybe it would be more contained, though?
Crazy idea, I know.

-----
Horror films have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. The really good stuff, too. Gore splattered on the screen. Genitalia hanging loose. Sex, and murder, hand-in-hand.
The primary reason for this was that my father wanted to watch horror films, and we as a family did what my father wanted. My mother never stopped it, because she didn't believe in censoring anything. The world is what it is; she was never going to hide us from any of it.
For years, my brother and I would cover our eyes with our hands when two characters so much as kissed onscreen. Not because our parents told us to; society had sunk its claws in early, regardless of my parents' will. We peeked between our fingers; we wanted to give the illusion of purity without actually partaking in it.
Our parents weren't always present when we watched horror films. As a child it would sometimes be just my brother and I watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Nightmare on Elm Street or the Chucky franchise.
I've never killed anyone. Not with a chainsaw, not with an axe, not with a gun, not with my hands. I've never killed anyone, ever. I've never wanted to. I don't even believe in the death penalty.
Being exposed to violent media never made me violent.
Did it alter me in any way, being exposed to such extreme media so young? Who knows. Maybe. I don't know who I would be without it. I've never known life without it. But I like to think I'm a decent person. I don't commit crimes. I try to be nice to people. I'm a hard worker. I'm pretty goofy.
It's also made me pretty anti-censorship and...well. Some people might see that as a crime; as a sin. And in that case, well, you might as well ban everything to prevent people like me from existing.
(You don't actually think that will work, do you?)
(I hope not; I did say this post was for adults only, didn't I?)
I read Flowers in the Attic...young. I was 9 or 10 maybe. It was before I discovered fanfiction. It never gave me unseemly feelings towards my brother or my parents; it never gave me the urge to lock up small children, or poison them.
At age 11, I discovered fanfiction. It was a happy accident from Googling "Harry Potter" and somehow stumbling on an explicit Drarry fic.
Should I have read that fic at age 11? No. But that's my fault for lying about my age. It's my parents' fault for not paying me any mind. It wasn't the fic's fault for existing.
The whole world isn't child-safe and it never will be. It's the responsibility of caretakers to mind their wards; not the world's responsibility to tiptoe around you and your rules.
The real world doesn't have content warnings. There is no tagging system for real life. And real life is much more dangerous than fanfiction.
Soon after reading that Drarry fic, I moved onto Snarry. I dove right into the deep end. I inhaled dead dove content at lightning speed. You couldn't pry me away from it.
11 year old Danni understood what an E rating meant. 11 year old Danni also understood what fiction meant.
I've never looked at a minor sideways. I've never wanted to. I've never touched anyone without clear and enthusiastic consent.
In fact, and this might be TMI, but I've only ever been with 2 people in my life. My first time was at age 18, with a guy I'd been with for a year and who I was engaged to.
All around, I was what one might call a "good kid"; I studied, I went to school, I didn't party, I didn't sneak out, I didn't do drugs. I skipped school once my senior year and other than that my worst crime was lying about my age to read questionable content.
Watching monsters onscreen and reading about them in books never made me a monster.
Or, well...I do spend my time writing underage stories, and non-con, and the occasional incest. I write infidelity and horrific angst. I write about morally questionable content, and that's as good as actually doing those things, right?
So if that's how you see it, maybe I am a monster. The monster putting words to page for others to read and enjoy.
If you're a wannabe monster hunter, and if fictional wrongdoing is as evil as real wrongdoing, then you might as well go after the easier target, right? You won't actually save the world that way, but you can pat yourself on the back for a job well done, I guess.
So while the torches and pitchforks are being prepped and the Tiktoks uploaded, I'm gonna go continue working on my very messed up porn. Just like I always have, and always will.

I review killing time (or whatever)
Okay, yes this review has taken me forever and that’s because there’s so much I want to say, and most of it has very little to do with the plot of the book. I cut down a lot of this so you guys could just get to the main point of what I’m trying to say, so I apologize if this is a little brief or incomprehensible to those who haven’t read the book.
And also, before I get into it, I would like to say rest in peace to the author Della Van Hise, who passed away in march of this year. She contributed a lot to the fandom, especially in regards to K/S fiction, as well as publishing a lot of non-trek related work during her life.
First of all, if you have heard of Killing Time, there is probably one specific reason for that. It’s the same reason I picked up the book in the first place and why it’s really even a topic of discussion on this site. To put the story quite briefly, Killing Time was recalled during its initial release on account of the book having too many slash elements (aka, the relationship between Kirk and Spock could be read as sexual/romantic). I first heard about the book here in this post where the history of it is worded to sound like one very dramatic mystery. One user (no shade intended here) even goes as far as to say the book was recalled by old Gene himself! Now I’m always one for drama and such, but after reading the book I looked into it a little more, and I don’t think that’s exactly how it went down.
Here you can find multiple statements from the author herself, in which she tells the whole story. According to her, the book publisher accidentally released an unedited manuscript that was never supposed to make it to the public. So technically the publisher did not recall the book because it was “too gay”, they recalled it because they printed a version that was never meant for the public to see anyway. These were the edits that were specifically requested by Paramount, who the publishers were supposed to go through to get the final okay on all material. And like, yeah, all of Paramounts edits were pretty much to delete any sentence where Spock and Kirk are tender to each other, they were trying to make is less homoerotic, obviously. I understand why this slight distinction may not make much of a difference to you guys, but for me it’s important to note that the book wasn’t recalled because it was too gay, it was just never supposed to be gay in the first place. It doesn’t make that fact any better, but it does make it less dramatic, in my opinion. I encourage you to read the statements from the author on this topic though, because she gives the whole story a lot better then I just did.
Now to address the main question at hand, does Killing Time depict a romantic relationship between Kirk and Spock, or is it all just hype? (in layman's terms, is the book gay or not?) and to answer quite plainly, yes it’s gay. of course it is. but then to answer less plainly, no. What the fuck do i mean by this? well let me try and explain.
I read the second edition of the book, aka the censored version, but I also followed along with the first edition (using this great article). The changes made to the book did not effect the plot at all, and were really only minor things. Notably, in the second edition they just kind of left out any part where Spock and Kirk touch each other (and I don’t mean in a sexual way). For example, there is a scene where Spock and Kirk are having a serious conversation in the ships garden. In the first edition, at the end of the conversation Spock places a hand on Kirks shoulder, which Kirk covers with his own hand. In the second addition, all mentions of this simple contact are deleted. The differences between the two are mostly little things like this. There is no secret sex scene or love confession hidden in the first addition. You see, in my opinion, the changes made to the second edition of the book do very little to censor the romantic undertones between Kirk and Spock. That’s because they are ingrained in the plot line itself.
One very important aspect to this book is that Kirk and Spock share a mental bond. This is something that can only happen between a Vulcan and another when they are extremely close. The mental bond that Kirk and Spock share is so strong in this book, it’s even present when they enter an alternate dimension where they are strangers to one another. There is a romance in this book between two original characters, and their relationship is constantly being paralleled by that of Kirk and Spock. And, maybe most telling, Spock refuses a female Romulan who is very interested in him over and over again simply because Kirk exists. And no, that’s not an exaggeration, here is a line from when the Romulan woman was begging Spock to be in a relationship with her:
“I need you. The Empire needs you, what more can there be?”
“James Kirk” the Vulcan murmured without hesitation.
That line is in both versions of the book. What I’m trying to say is yes, there are K/S elements in Killing Time. There are many tender moments and lots of talk about Kirk and Spock’s devotion to each other.
So now you’re asking yourself, Gar, why did you just say earlier that “no, the book is not gay”? Well, that’s because it’s not. This isn’t a K/S book. This isn’t a piece of Spirk fanfiction. Because for as much as this book is about Kirk and Spock’s relationship, it’s even more about Romulans (and more specifically, that one girlboss Romulan Commander from the Enterprise Incident.... bet ya didn't see that coming!) That’s right, the most controversial Star Trek book ever published is at it’s core quite plainly just a Star Trek book. There is weird alternate dimensions, time travel, espionage and lots and lots of Romulans!
Alright, alright, what I’m really trying to get at here is that yes, if you read into Killing Time there is K/S elements. I mean for god sake the author was a known K/S fanfic writer, that wasn’t a secret by any means. If she wrote their relationship a little more tenderly than most authors would have, can we really be surprised? But writing a K/S story was not her intention here, and that’s not what this is. I think the author put it best herself, so I’m just going to put that here:
“If people chose to see overtones of K/S in it, maybe it’s because there were overtones of K/S throughout Star Trek itself.”
People will hype up killing time as some secret confirmation that K/S is real and canon, and I really get that. Like, it would be really nice to have some canon acknowledgment of K/S, and I really don’t blame people for acting like that’s what this is. But that really isn’t what this is. And even if there was some kind of love confession, I really hate to break it to you, but the Star Trek novels are just fancy fanfiction and are not considered canon by any stretch (excluding the one Gene wrote himself, which let’s face it, perhaps has the most K/S elements of all).
If you are looking for a nice story about Kirk and Spock being in love, then I very much urge you to look at Ao3 or similar sites. Skip this, if you want a K/S story, because that’s not what this is. Now, if you’re a huge fan of the Romulan commander from the Enterprise Incident, then my GOD you have to read this. I think this was a pretty solid Trek book. It was no piece of literary genius, but it got the job done. There was a lot of it that I think could have been left out, because it the later half it started to drag horribly, and we got a few plot threads that went absolutely nowhere. I’m not sure I’m much of a fan of alternate universes, as I really really enjoy the established dynamic of the characters, but it didn’t bother me too much. But I mean hey man, there was defiantly parts where I was so invested I couldn’t put the book down. Give this one a read if you’re looking for a pretty interesting Trek book with a little bit of cheeky K/S sprinkled here and there.
If you have given the book a read, or just have thoughts in general, I’d love to hear them!

I try not to let the fandom ruin a character for me but it's becoming really hard to appreciate C*ss (censoring her name to avoid getting this being in her main tags) as a character when (some) of her fans are annoying as hell, I sometimes really can't stand them and honestly I'm sorry if I come off as rude, that really wasn't my intention. I've been in this fandom for a while now and while I mostly only really care about Talia and Damian, it seems like I can't avoid seeing C*ss stans being really annoying.
I know it's not all of them, certain character stans are always gonna have bad apples but damn they get on my nerves.
Hi Anon! I have to say, I completely understand where you are coming from. It happens in all fandoms from whatever piece of entertainment. Every time we join a new fandom, we are always going to find people that are really mean and gatekeep-y or people who we just cannot see eye to eye with.
It doesn’t make you rude, at least I don’t think so. One can easily get fed up with people’s narratives when they revolve around bringing other characters down.
I joined this fandom quite late and even though I have been a Dick Grayson and Jason Todd stan for a very long time. Dick was the one that I met first and then Jason. When I found the fandom side of comics, we were already a bit into the Rebirth era of DC, and the fandom was wild.
It was like nothing I have ever seen; it was like the Jason and Dick that I knew didn’t exist, and it was really difficult for me to like any Jason Todd centric blog because they usually came with a horrendous amount of Dick Grayson hate.
I even had a really bad experience with a Dick stan, who acted like Dick’s most distinguishable trait was having a bad temper. It was true that person probably had read more comics than me but them using out of context panels to prove Dick’s bad temper kinda put me off.
I understand now, that they probably were trying to fight the “sunshine and happiness” characterization of Dick, but they still were extremely rude to me and it made me feel bad.
It took me some time to find blogs that made me feel welcome to the fandom and that felt were willing to educate the newies without treating us like we were less.
My advice to you? Mute and block every tag that you feel makes you have a bad time in fandom. And don’t feel bad about muting tags, sometimes it is the best thing that could happen to you.
I grow attached to characters and pieces of media a lot so when something bothers me a lot it can make me anxious. A long time ago I was part of the Supernatural fandom, it is basically my second favourite show, and one ship destroyed my experience of it, whenever I looked it was all about that ship, the show seemed to come second to it. It really made me separate myself from all that and I decided to not only enjoy the show on my own but also, I muted tags and everything involving that ship.
This fandom is the same, granted it doesn’t reach Supernatural Fandom levels of toxic but it does have its moments.
In a way or another fandom is the reason that I kinda hate Tim Drake but I am also not interested in him that much, but I have gotten tired of him and some of his stans in the past quite easily.
I know it is frustrating, but what we have to do is make ourselves look the other way, sometimes all we can do is look away. Maybe some day we will come across a story involving a character that we don’t like (due to fandom) and might find ourselves still enjoying it.
I know there is this ever existing “soft beef” between Jason and Dick stans but I know very little of it because I have taught myself to dodge it.
It is not worth having a bad time here on tumblr (or anywhere else) when we are trying to find people who like the same stories/characters that we do!
I hope your experience in tumblr and fandom in general gets better Anon, I can assure you, once you find bloggers that make you happy even though they might post something you don’t quite agree with, it all gets better!

I just wanna take a moment to say to those who are not in the spn fandom but might have heard of a certain "controversy" regarding a Spanish dub of episode 15.18 that there is no controversy.
What is happening is that a group of shippers in the fandom are mad that their fanon ship did not become canon and since it's a gay ship they are trying to claim censorship and pretend that they want representation.
The truth is that they don't truly care for those things, the just want validation for their fetishized white male ship. One half of that ship, Dean Winchester, has always been portrayed as straight and neither actor, writer, producers have ever implied he is anything other than straight. In fact it is the opposite, they have been vehemently clear about his sexual orientation. And when they have stated such they have been attacked and harrassed and even, in the case of the actor, been labeled as homophobic.
Those same people you may see across your dash or in tags praising Jensen Ackles (the actor who portrayed Dean for 15yrs) and saying that he was censored, that he wanted the ship to be canon and he was upset it wasn't, that he wants to redo the show to bring the character back and fix that- those same people, just two weeks ago, were calling him homophobic just because he didn't say I love you back.
This is not the first time they've done this, by the way, this is what they have done for years, they praise him and claim to love him when he says something they like but if he doesn't, if he points out that his character is straight or shoots down their little ship in any way they call him a homophobe, they try to tarnish his reputation, they harass him, they say he has no right or that his opinion on this character that he has portrayed for years has no validity.
However, in the same breath, they'll claim their true favorite M*sha Collins is the ultimate authority on anything he says regarding the character he portrayed, C*stiel, and all the other characters for the sole reason that he says what they like to hear and praises their ship.
I'm not going to go into details in this post on how they treat and act towards the second leading man of this show, and Jensen's co-star, Jared Padalecki who portrayed Sam Winchester but it would be remiss of me not to mention it; they have a vile hatred of him so big that they wanted to get him fired from the show, they harass him, they sent him threats, when one year he shared a sad post on his birthday instead of being concerned they mocked him and were happy, this is a man who suffers from depression in case you weren't aware, and that's just the tip of the iceberg! They have an all consuming hatred of him (that they deny!) all because he played Dean's little brother who was written from the very first episode to the very last one as the most important person in Dean's life, and because he is very close and important to Jensen in real life. They hate him so much some even want to boycott his new CW show, Walker, which has...wait for it...a gay character.
It should come as no surprise when I say that they also harrass, bully and send vile messages to those in fandom that don't ship their ship. Some even harrass their fellow shippers just because they're not as extreme in their shipping.
Let's talk about gay characters real quick because they'll have you believe SPN had none but that's not true Supernatural did have LGBTQ+ characters and some played major parts like Charlie, a close friend to the Winchester brothers, or Chuck who was actually God. It's not that the show had no LGBTQ+ characters, it's that Dean Winchester wasn't one of them.
But let's get back on track, what is this supposed controversy and is there any truth behind their claims that Jensen wanted the ship to be canon?
One thing at a time, the "controversy" is that in the Spanish dubb of the show Dean says "me too" to C*stiel after his love confession something he doesn't say in the English version of the episode. Now, the shippers are trying to claim that it makes their ship canon and that CW is homophobic and censored it that there is a secret scene that was cut out of the episode and the dubb is the real version of the epi.
The truth is there is no secret scene or censorship, anybody who knows anything about dubbed and translated works knows dubbing is not known for its accuracy. And the "real version" of the epi is the one that aired in English, the shows intended language.
The script very clearly says Dean can't reciprocate.
And the thing about Jensen? They're just saying that because he stated in the past that there was something that didn't sit well with him in the finale and that he struggled with it but he has yet to go into details about it was that he struggled with, it could have just as easily been, and it's way more likely it was, that he wanted more scenes of the brothers having fun [he's always been a big fan of the brothers relationship] so those trying to claim that it's because he was censored from having his character proclaim his love to another male character are grabbing things out of thin air.
(To note: in the finale Dean actually does proclaim his love for another male character. He tells his little brother he loves him. It's a different type of love, yes, but I'm pointing it out cause some have been trying to claim that Dean can't say I love you or that Dean shows no emotion and if you believe that I implore you look up his death scene.)
Oh, and the claims they're making that Jensen wants to reboot the show to make the ship canon? Another baseless claim. Jensen, and Jared, have both expressed an interest in playing these characters again but that's it. At no point has he said or insinuated that it's because he wants to make a fanon ship happen. He played Dean for 15yrs, it was a major part of his life and a character he deeply loves and will forever be connected too, him wanting to someday return to play him again has nothing to do with that ship. And it's kinda insulting that they want to boil it down to that.
In conclusion, the d*stiel shippers are lying to y'all. There is no secret scene. There was no censorship. Dean is and has always been a straight character. Jensen was not upset that Dean didn't confess his undying love to C*stiel. Jensen Ackles is not homophobic. Jensen wanting to reboot or come back to the show, and play Dean, again has nothing to do with that ship. And d*stiel shippers, or to be fair hellers (that's what we call the extreme d*stiel shippers because I acknowledge there are some that just wanna enjoy their ship), don't actually give a damn about representation.
If you wanna talk about censorship and possible homophobia on CW's part focus on how they treat their actual gay characters.

Hey, I love your content and work for the GW fandom, and it's wonderful that you censored OP's url, but I don't think it's a great look to publicly vaguepost someone in a major tag where they'll probably see it, even if they did say something rude. Their post was rude, but it was *general*. Vagueposting most often targets one, specific person, and if it's easy to find their post (which it was), it can lead to them getting unduly harassed.
I sat with this for awhile this evening, considering how best to respond. I considered not responding at all. Yet here we are...
"Not a good look." You're right. The whole thing could've passed without anyone being the wiser if I hadn't capped it.
But...here's the thing. Pointing to the fandom (again, a 25+ year old fandom) and saying other fans themselves are "creepy and disgusting" and are "polluting" the fandom by making and enjoying content of the main characters and telling people to "go to hell" over adult content is not a vent about squicks. It is anti BS at its core and is fair game when you tag the whole damn fandom. That is inherently different from being squicked out by certain genres/content, or even complaining about the creative direction writers for canon/auxiliary content took the characters and their stories.
I know some have said I'm 'keen on neutrality' and that's true...in specific settings, i.e. I expect mods of fandom Discord servers or events to remain professional in that role and setting and stay above the fandom fray IN THAT SPACE. As a moderator, you have a responsibility to your community because you are providing a service and/or a platform to the fandom writ large. It's not your personal sandbox anymore, and you have to act accordingly there.
As an individual, I have personally spoken out against...
racism, bigotry, and other hate
fans who condemn others' headcanons and interpretation of canon
people trying to divide the fandom along shipping war lines of yore
unprofessionalism of mods and organizers
making assumptions about fans' IRL interests based on their fandom interests
anti rhetoric overall
I have also DEFENDED peoples' rights to have opinions in their personal spaces, even when it stirred up drama or other shenanigans. [NOTE: This includes both folks I disagreed with, as well as people I considered friends from whom I apparently caught a block from today. To each their own.]
Didn't see any of that offense or defense happening? That was intentional - sometimes you get better results with personal conversations when emotions are running high.
So I gotta ask you anon...am I not afforded that same right to a personal opinion and a personal stance on a personal blog? The OP tagged the fandom, so I tagged the fandom. Hell, I could've reblogged my opinions DIRECTLY from them (which I had actually considered this morning) but KNEW folks would pile on and I didn't want to drown their notifications in people being contrary. And I'll be first in line to fight off anon hate going to the individual if I hear about it 'cause that is also some shit I don't tolerate.
TL;DR -- if some rando on the internet can call a whole lot of us creepy and disgusting, then I - some other rando on the internet - can say that's a crappy attitude and it's got no space on my dash or in my fandom.

What's a movie that you love that most people seem to hate? and a movie that you hate that most people seem to love?
Gosh, I love alot of movies that people hate lol Titanic, Jennifer's Body, Pride & Prejudice, The Cat Returns. But I love Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Now it’s not like peoples’ hatred of this movie is unfounded. It has a really racist caricature played by Mickey Rooney. And it’s inclusion is so obnoxious and offensive and pointless. It’s one of those movies where I’m like “I wish they would digitally remove Mickey Rooney from this movie” because what would be left is a really nice love story between a struggling writer and an eccentric cafe society woman. They have really good chemistry. He’s really amused by her, trying to figure her out, but she throws him for a loop so many times it’s hard to see what the truth is about her. It’s just a fun romantic comedy. But again. Hard to recommend this movie to people.
As for a movie I hate that most people seem to love? There’s a lot of those too, but I guess uhhh Star War. It’s just really expensive mediocrity. That’s not to say the “original movies” were good either. They’re boring too. If I wasn’t attached to the actors on a human level I wouldn’t care at all. If they were movies for kids, I’d give it a pass. But there’s nothing they do that’s innovative or fun. Which again, would be fine. But for the amount of money that gets put into it every time they make a new Star War, and now much content there is, I’d expect a good story and good characters at some point. I’m not even entirely sure fans of these movies even like these movies if I’m being completely honest. - Cat
Carpool has always been one of my favourite all-time comedies and critics really fucking dragged it. Mainly because it had Tom Arnold in it. lolol
But I really liked it. I will note that it has some problematic elements due it being a nearly 30 year old movie, like the protagonist is pretty ableist towards one of the kids but he’s very much treated like an asshole by the rest of the cast (to the point where somebody outright calls him annoying and rude as opposed to his kidnapper) so it’s not normalised at all.
And there’s a character - the mother of Tom Arnold’s character - that clearly has a facial condition of some sort which is commented upon. She does spend every single scene she’s in being an undisputed badass (i.e. taking on two armed intruders single-handedly) but she and how the characters talk about her is a very eh part of the movie that just would not fly nowadays.
They could’ve done with keeping that plot element out entirely because it adds or changes nothing about the movie aside from “comedic value”. A lot of comedies do this, sadly. Dumb and Dumber being a more notable example with the storyline concerning the blind character and the dead parakeet.
I also love Dumb and Dumber for the record, but it’s important to make note of problematic elements in the movies or w/e you enjoy, regardless of nostalgia.
I just remember enjoying as a kid and occasionally go back to it because nostalgia. But the ableist elements can be an issue. Which isn’t the reason why critics didn’t like it, by the way. They just really didn’t like Tom Arnold. Understandable. There’s a reason why he was on the celebrity rocket ship headed for the Sun in that one episode of The Simpsons. lol
As for the second part of your question: any Marvel Cinematic Universe movie that isn’t Spiderman. Also, Daredevil: which is another movie I like but people hated because I guess it allowed itself to be censored. Watch the Director’s Cut, guys. It’s a shame because Deadpool was allowed to stretch its legs and be adult but not Daredevil and I think that really let it down.
I find them all terrifically boring. Maybe if I were straight, I’d go to drool over Chris Hemsworth or whoever and ignore how bad and repetitive those movies are but I’m not so what’s the point?
Honestly, the only real thing I remember those movies for is how Tumblr used to - and possibly still does - go wild for them and post gif sets of probably the only “funny” moment of the movie, thus eliminating the point of watching them in their entirety. lol

I read an ask over on @tsuki-no-ura’s blog today that sort of broke my heart and hit on some things I’ve been feeling and thinking. I agree with the anon that it feels like our fandom has become a worse place. The post I just reblogged touches on some of why I think that is. Also Ghostmartyr’s recent post was helpful as well in understanding the rampant negativity. The feeling of heartbreak that comes from crushed hopes and dreams generally doesn’t allow for graciousness.
It’s hard to avoid the negativity. Mantras like “don’t like, don’t read” and “stay in your lane” are great, of course, but they only work if everyone follows the rule. Like the anon in Tsuki’s ask said, if you are online for more than a few minutes, if you dig even the slightest bit into the tags, you’ll see something you regret and not everyone has the strength or the support group to let it go or ignore it. It hurts to see people willfully misrepresenting your favorite character or your ship community. It’s hard not to take it personally.
The advice to build your own community is also good, but I understand how difficult this is. Not everyone has the confidence to slide into another persons dms to start the process, and many long timers in the fandom are understandably cautious of befriending new people. It can take years to find people you can safely laugh and cry (and vent) with. Until you do, you are sort of adrift in the wider fandom with all its issues.
Regarding ship wars, I feel like here on tumblr they most often take the form of meta blogs that devote the majority of their time to denigrating other ship communities. While they may officially hold the attitude of “ship and let ship”, the number of disingenuous anons they answer and the sheer abundance of replies that focus on straw man arguments or else attempt to paint an entire rival community in a negative light is honestly astonishing.
I don’t know what to say about those. Just. Yeah. It’s disgusting and dishonest.  I hate it too. Also I know as a meta blog I shouldn’t be casting stones. Glass houses and all that. But I’ve tried very hard not to do that. I’m obviously not perfect in this regard but I feel pretty confident that if you look at the 4356 anon asks I’ve answered, there are only a handful that could be considered casting shade on anyone. I get bait daily. It would be so easy to fall into that trap. But it’s such a shitty thing to do.
Tsuki’s reply to the anon was perfect of course and I could sympathize with her feelings. That need to be careful and constantly censor yourself is something I can relate to. There’s also the awareness that no matter how hard you try or how careful you are, someone somewhere (or maybe a lot of someones) are going to view you poorly because your ideas are inconvenient to them.
I don’t have any solutions here. I just read that ask and wanted to let people who are hurting because of fandom negativity know that I see them and I’m sorry. It sucks. It’s exhausting. All those things. You aren’t crazy. You aren’t alone. You aren’t weak. You aren’t overly sensitive. You are human.
I hope you find things that make you happy, like Tsuki said, either by reading your favorite fic for the hundredth time or focusing on the humor, art and shitposts that are also fandom staples. At least that part of fandom never changes.

usually i ignore your tjlc contrnt bc I enjoy following you for other things but I'm curious: as a casual sherlock watcher who has never even engaged with shipping characters from the show, pulling a "s4 was fake all along" thing to me (and likely most casual watchers) would just feel like a desperate retcon after the hate that the season got. Also, intentional borderline-unwatchable storytelling is still borderline unwatchable, expecially if it requires conspiracy threads and pages of analysis to make it anything other than bad. I just don't think a network/producers would approve something like that?
I'm not expecting them to pull "s4 was fake all along" in the slightest and I don't know how I've given that impression (though if you ignore my tjlc content normally then I guess you don't know what I think?)
the rest under the cut because i talk a lot
I never found it borderline unwatchable, I can see why people think it was but it by no means Requires conspiracy threads or pages of analysis to make it good - the analysis is inherent to watching, if you thought it was bad that's a Good thing because it exists as the antithesis to the correct adaptation of sherlock holmes as a character and a franchise. so it succeeded in that if it felt wrong to you. i know that it might be difficult to grasp but the fact that it was bad is why it was good.
as to understanding it without needing lots of analysis: at the end of the day all the subtext is there for fun, for the select few who want to be part of the great game! the show reads perfectly well at a surface level, and the audience can go through the narrative to it’s fruition without knowing what is coming or understanding anything deeper. the experience of the show is similar to that of acd canon in that it can be read and enjoyed on one level but also has more to discover and enjoy at a deeper level.
nobody is expected to read into it, but its there specifically for fans of the great game (the experience of solving sherlockian stories) to delve into, and there’s lots built in to have lots of fun with. it comes back to the idea of “warm paste”, which is how mark gatiss refers to bland and mind-numbing television that requires no brains whatsoever to watch and has nothing of substance to it. obviously we all love a bit of shit tv from time to time but thats just the exact opposite of what sherlock is supposed to be! the show itself teaches you how to solve mysteries and then gives you a puzzle: “you were told but you didn’t listen.”
understanding s4 gets as complicated as you want to make it, but if you aren’t willing to apply very basic narrative ideas to it, then no, it won’t make sense. it requires very little to understand it in the context of unreliable narration (you don’t need to look deeper than that, that part is for fun for people who want it), but if the audience is unwilling to put any effort whatsoever into the media they consume then sherlock isn’t for them. some people think that’s snobby and bad but whatever, that’s what the aforementioned warm paste is for. it doesn’t mean tv shouldn’t be intellectually stimulating or have anything to say
what i actually expect them to do instead of “s4 was fake” is actually “s4 existed in universe as john watson’s writing”. unreliable narration is established in the show, particularly with the cover-up of magnussen’s death, and there are theories abound among sherlockians that within acd canon there were hidden snippets of the Truth and that what was published by watson in-universe is actually heavily censored for a number of reasons such as where they perverted the course of justice by running on their own moral compasses or for political/legal reasons (in the context of the wilde trials, of course neither watson nor acd could ever publish content including outright homosexuality). so s4 is essentially going to figure into canon in the sense that it is in-verse fiction written by john on his blog to cover up some unpleasant or unable to be revealed truth. there’s lots more evidence for this, often referred to as “blog theory” or “alibi theory”, if you’d like to look into this
as to the network/producers approving it:
1) the producer, sue vertue, is moffat’s wife, so I don’t think she is doing anything to stop their hairbrained schemes
2) there has been lots of exploration into how the series came to be what it is. to put it very briefly, there was an investigation by the bbc into LGB representation in the media, in the sense that the bbc is a publicly funded channel and is supposed to reflect the nation that watches it. (obviously there’s debate to be had about the extent to which this achieved, but that’s not relevant right now) the report produced was all about how the bbc needed to do better at making LGB content and representing LGB people. the big takeaway is that the bbc subsequently had the intention of representing such characters in realistic portrayals that didn’t rely solely on stereotypes, to give these characters meaningful storylines, and to create watercooler or landmark content.
by watercooler content they mean something genuinely groundbreaking, like, say, a show that has the investment of the wider public revealing that the main character(s) are gay in the late game, where those characters are actually a preexisting symbol of britishness and to make them gay with a meaningful build up would be literally groundbreaking. the cherry on top here is that the gay pilot of sherlock (so lovingly named because it is much much more openly gay and camp than the final product) was created before this bbc report was published, and following the publication the commissioner of the report recommissioned sherlock into what it is today - i.e. the show was reshaped from something that could have reached its gay fruition within three episodes and existed solely as a miniseries of that length into a multi-series show with film-length episodes that would span years of storyline in order to give the gayness a more nuanced long and meaningful build up that would culminate in watercooler content.
3) there is precedent for “unwatchable” media with regards to absurdism, and i don’t see why absurdism would not be approved by the network
4) john yorke - if they had this fella behind them and vouching for their plan at the bbc then its obvious how it would get approved. even without yorke personally encouraging this move, the plan they had, based upon yorke’s structure, would have been enough to convince people at the bbc that this was a thing worth doing. and the bbc weren’t wrong to let them! sherlock has been wildly popular and no doubt made both hartswood and the bbc lots of money and awards and s4 was also critically acclaimed and got millions of viewers - in no way has this turned out badly for the bbc
i know i jumped between ideas here but that was the easiest way to answer without spending ages drafting something well written. if there’s any concepts that don’t make sense then they’re probably explained within amy’s metas that i mentioned earlier (medium.com/@toxicsemicolon) so i suggest you give them a read. have links so some other sources on specific things (such as the seminal text softly, softly) so message if you’re genuinely interested in understanding, because i’m not doing citations on all of this right now (i’m tired i’ve been writing essays all month but i really do want to share information when people ask for it so please do if you want)
