i remember back in 2023 when the whole matty ratty thing was going on, and as a jewish fan i felt completely disgusted she would even allow someone so gross and bigoted into her life. i was part of the #speakupnow campaign with other fans, i felt so desperate to make it all end and for her to condemn that man… but she didn’t. she only distanced herself. i was at least partially satisfied she stopped associating with him, and i still considered myself a fan for that reason, but the pain i felt of betrayal to her most marginalised fans never really went fully away no matter how much i tried to stuff it down.

flash forward to now. i was ready for this album, excited even to get new music, only to receive a disjointed wreck of an album that was largely defending a relationship with a neonazi freak. i feel stunned and angry. i was already growing a dislike towards her because of the whole billionaire/ecoterrorist/politically silent thing but i told myself i can still like the music and be critical or her actions at the same time. now i’m not so sure i feel that way anymore. i feel ashamed and stupid and lied to. i spent so much time and money on her only for her to continue to lowkey simp for a racist misogynistic weirdo on top of all the other shit??? idk.

i feel like i’m looking for validation from others my anger and hurt is justified, that its okay to change my mind about taylor swift, that i can still acknowledge the positive impact her art had on me and not want to support the current path shes on right now because it is hurting people and i can’t stand by and watch any longer or else i’m complicit, that i can grieve the trust i put in her to be a better person that she’s been acting like in the past year or so. i hope this ask is of no bother to you, i just saw your ex swifties tag and felt like maybe this would be a good time to speak my truth.

Your anger and hurt is completely justified, the main purpose of my ex swiftie tag is for this discussion. We are all feeling the same resentment towards her. I think a lot of crimi/nale art (Crimson x his bodyguard) is really cute, like, no shade to the artists - but it lowkey bugs me that the fandom is so ready to flesh out Crimson's character and make him an abusive dad who just so happens to be having a (usually implied to be) fulfilling affair with his bodyguard, meanwhile the most Stella will get varies from fics where she suffers some horrible fate, Blitzo being openly misogynistic towards her and it being validated in the narrative, her being cut off from Via and it being framed as an exclusively good thing (no consideration that Via is the sole reason Stella was also forced into an arranged marriage, rendering everything she sacrificed pointless), etc etc.

The most I've seen shipping her is like, artwork that just objectifies her more even as it tries to pair her up with Sally Mae or Verosika

idk, it just sticks out to me that fandom can give an abusive character like Crimson or Valentino three dimensions by not having them be awful monsters 24-7 but Stella is just evil and that's it. On a side note, the bodyguard getting a name but not Moxxie's mother - I know the writing for HB is uninterested in the female characters but they could at least try to hide it

And it would be one thing if they personally weren't interested in fleshing out Stella, but a lot of people in this fandom (including Viv herself) will attack you personally if you like her. It's disgusting.

The whole "you can't ship Lesheather bc Heather is racist" thing bugs me bc:

a) You can just write her as not racist.

Are the comments she makes to Leshawna in canon racist? Absolutely. But the way the show doesn't treat them as anything worse than stuff Heather says to Gwen makes me believe that the writers were not intending them to dig deeper than Basic Mean Comments.

Are they more than Basic Mean Comments? Yes!! Bc they're racist!! But the way new characters like Julia (lowkey Heather 2.0) don’t make racist comments (and how you wouldn't hear any Gen 4 characters calling ppl "transgender trolls") makes me think that the racism in Heather's comments was not The Point of her comments but a side effect of the early 2000's being Like That.

So you can keep the intention of her comments (being mean) while removing the dated element (the racism). I think this can work because Heather Being Racist is not, like, a core part of her character like Heather Being Mean is or Heather Being Competitive is.

So just don't write her as racist.

Or:

b) Have her grow as a person!!

People aren't either Perfectly Unprejudiced or Bigoted Forever. Have her recognize that the comments she makes toward Leshawna are rooted in Anti-Blackness and therefore a bigger deal than her comments toward Gwen.

Heather herself is Wasian so you could explore her dealing with internalized racism, especially when it comes towards looks bc that's such a big focus for her. She was also canonically bullied for her looks!

Was she on the receiving end of Anti-Asian racism? Does that cause her to perpetuate that bullying toward Leshawna? How does Heather's past with being a bully victim cause her to become the bully and how does race/racism tie into both of these experiences?

This isn't to say "Oh I headcanon Heather as being the victim of racism therefore It's Okay if she's racist to Leshawna" it's saying that you can get in depth with her character about why she treats Leshawna the way that she does and with that understanding, have her learn and grow from it into a better person!

Like if she is able to recognize what she's doing, own up to it, apologize to Leshawna, and the two are able to slowly gain understanding of one another that leads to respect, friendship, and more… that could be super interesting!!

To conclude:

I can understand not wanting to ship Lesheather or not liking the ship. Especially in the context of their early interactions. But making a blanket statement about how Nobody Can Ship Them is just annoying when there are/could be people who want to ship them and put the work in to make them a decent ship.

Idk, if you're going around saying that, are you also saying how nobody can ship any women with Duncan or Ezekiel bc they're canonically misogynistic?

Are you portraying Heather as racist in content that's not directly related to Lesheather?

okay this is lowkey such a late answer to this but recent chill bible opinion has some context to it. i'm religious but in like a weird way i don't super want to get into, but basically i read the bible for the story aspects: the morals taught, the themes within, etc etc. i don't really view it as a strict religious instruction handbook, more so as like . stories meant to teach lessons and morals. kinda. its complicated!

anyway! more importantly, i'm reading the old testament right now, and something that deeply bothers me is that i find the stories in early genesis deeply fascinating, and yet incredibly not dived into at all! and i think that's a shame, because there's so much interest and tragedy in the story of adam and eve, and in cain and abel, together and alongside adam and eve. i just think there could've been so much more done with the first ever family on earth, that is really never dived into popularly or well in adaptations. which is like chill EXCEPT for the fact that i think there's a lot of . persephone and hades tumblr bullshit going on and let me ELABORATE!

eve is a fascinating character to study as the first woman, and there's a lot to be said about eve, which is why a lot of modern looks at her that depict her as a #slay girlboss that ate the apple on purpose or as like . cheating on adam with lucifer . and i also don't fuck with the very long history of her being treated as though she's stupid or wicked or a transgressor. basically, what i'm trying to get at is that eve wasn't stupid for eating the apple, she was lied to, and in her defense, no one had ever lied before. quite literally she was the first to ever be lied to, ever, and she cannot be solely at fault for being tricked. i think it's hard to argue that eve shouldn't have fallen for it, because she was in such an incredibly unique, quite literally never happening before situation. i just think that depictions of her as a scheming seductress will never be as feminist as people think they are, because the core of eve was not someone looking to like . stick it to the man . she was curious, and trusting, and i refuse to blame her for searching for something new, because if god did not want man or woman to long for knowledge, he never should have create sapient beings 🤷

that was a long, kinda rambly way to say that i think genesis, despite being a really interesting book especially pertaining to eve, adam, and the fall, and especially relating to what could be said about abel and cain, and abel, cain, and THEIR PARENTS!!!, fails in a lot of ways as a book. mostly because of the lack of expansion on any of the interesting parts of the early story. i dont gaf abt how adam lived for 930 years. i gaf about adam and the horror of raising children and loving them and that still not being enough to save them from each other or themselves. it must have been horrifying to see your children, both your first children and the first children ever born, suffer and die, one at the hand of another and one at the hand of your own father. like idk eve adam and the horrifying fact that their sin (mistakes) passed along to their child and could've played a role in his own sin (devastating mistakes) and what you do as a parent when you realize that loving someone isn't enough to raise them perfectly and keep them safe.

im actually gonna try to keep this short bc g-d knows like 80% of my brain power’s gone into constantly babbling about owen for the last year. so im gonna speed run this. main opinion? he’s character of all time to me. hes mentally ill hes mean he thinks love is weakness he loves so hard he’d burn down the world for it hes a bitch he cares for his friends sooo much hes good at his job hes bad at his job. hes misogynistic hes a woman hes homophobic hes gay he prioritizes casual sex hes a little bit in love with all his friends hes tries to save others he wants to be saved hes wants to die he gets angry when hes killed he wants to contribute something good he destroys everything he touches hes loyal to a fault he judas’d jack. everyone he loves leaves him he nearly destroyed the world to keep from being abandoned his parents didnt want him his mom never liked him. hes just some guy he’s the most insane bitch to ever exist. hes transmasc shes butch hes a straight guy she could be the worst woman ever hes a bi imbicile. hes mean and bitter and angry and awful and he tries to remind everyone and himself of it but hes good hes good hes good in the end.

other opinions uh… i think the writing handles him irresponsibly at times, and is disrespectful towards him, although maybe they thought it was justified cuz hes an ass sdjkfhds. but the undead arc is fucking mean to him in a lot of places. dmw in particular is like… idk it just strikes a particular tone at his expense, i don’t like it. it’s cruel. but torchwood isn’t exactly a show that respects its characters much. something that particularly bothers me is the way he oscillates between being fucked up and fine in a way that’s like… not realistic, it’s obvious it’s just a writing issue. like, the way he’s magically better and healthier and less of a prick after season 1, and then again after the undead arc. like that’s not how it works. that character growth wasn’t earned. that’s a pet peeve i have, and also kind of why s2 owen exists in a different place in my head as s1 owen. the main owen that lives in my head is him at his worst, not a version of him who’s randomly and inexplicably doing better and being kinder, and as a fic writer i like starting at that unhealthy baseline and trying to actually put the work into making him better, too. lord knows the show didn’t care enough to do it well. then again, it’s torchwood, yknow. the characters aren’t the focus. unfortunately.

slightly adjacent - i think owen’s a lot gayer than he lets on / than people see him as. i don’t think he’s women-leaning at all, i think he’s more of a 50/50 bi, he’s just got some p heavy internalized issues going on. he’ll sleep with men, if the opportunity presents itself (so he can justify it, lawl), but i think he has issues with the idea of loving and dating one. but i think he’s just as attracted to men as he is to women. 

that being said, i dont think he’d call himself straight. one of my biggest pet peeves is fics where owen’s like “im not gay btw” he wouldnt fucking say that. i think if you asked owen about his sexuality he’d do a hand wavey motion and thatd be that

he was rlly into punk shit as a teen + played with gender a little bit back then, + sexuality (kissing his guy friends in public to make a statement / piss someone off, that sort of thing). that was kind of his first experience with queerness + figuring himself out + bc of that it was born from a place of defiance that he never fully got over. helped him feel like he was taking back control over smth that made him feel like shit (his mom was. Not an ally. to say the least)

in fact a lot of his behavior is a result of his mom believing he’d always be a fuck up, that he’d never amount to anything. he wears spite like a badge. being a poor kid who became a doctor and getting engaged at 23 were both ‘fuck yous’ to his mom.

Feeling invalid in my queerness bc of not wanting to:

- medically/pharmaceutically transition- don't want to talk to a Dr about feelings I can't comprehend

- getting and using a binder- I got some ✨ big naturals ✨ and I don't want to waste money on an experience that may make me hate myself more

- enforce my pronouns with anyone- it doesn't hurt every time, but the joy of people getting it correct is nice and feels better if I don't have to fight for it

- come out again- I'm worried of being wrong and also Idk if actually I'm cis, just misogynistic and/or fat phobic towards myself instead. I don't want to be that guy who's just looking for attention

It's wild to me to experience these thoughts but also know how lowkey illogical they are. I don't have to do surgery right off the bat and I don't even have to take it all off. I could do hrt at the start to find out what feels right. I literally dispense hrt to trans clientele all of the time so I know the drs are out there. The main way to know if flat is what I'm looking for is- surprise- a binder! And the large communities who have to deal with the negative implications of having their safe sport (place) being infiltrated by a man who can say the same slurs as the bullies in school or the thugs on the streets apparently will have perfect mental health after such an incident because apparently Max doesnt care enough to apologise when a whole organisation asks for one and instead says 'not my problem' I suppose their mental health wasnt all thag important to max was it. Lewis apparently crashed into Max on purpose and that led to 200,000 racist social media posts being deleted and who perpetuated this abuse may you ask a certain team and a certain driver and I suppose that his mental health wasnt important enough to consider.

So it's upsetting that Max and the other people in charge of RBR (Christian, Helmut) have poor mental health I simply cannot muster a large amount of sympathy simply because they've perpetuated huge amounts of negative ideas/behaviours against certain drivers/teams without a single apology. The only people I feel for are the employees working their backsides off for a livelihood (I think many people in these teams are underpaid) and their children that are being bullied for a budget cap.

Also last point: don't say that we're making Max the villain by calling his Misogynistic and ableist when he has been Misogynistic and ableist. You say they're trynna make him the villain only for him to have done the villainous stuff.

Ezekiel: didn’t like him one bit, misogynistic and boring. His only personality trait is getting voted off first

Duncan: lowkey kinda love him but he did cheat on Courtney and was an overall asshole after first season, season one Duncan was on top tho

Eva: just didn’t really get the chance to do anything so it feels wrong to put her any higher

Owen: annoying, got better in season 3 but still annoying and didn’t deserve the season one win

Beth: also kinda annoying, idk just didn’t like her that much and honestly she didn’t deserve to win action

Gwen: controversial but I don’t really like her, she’s just kind of boring and she did kiss Courtney’s bf (obv I blame Duncan more but still)

Blainely: obv annoying but I can’t act like she didn’t eat every time she talked

Trent: sweet, nice, just kind of boring in my opinion and not that memorable

Poetry, arcane, candlelight <333

poetry - honestly i'm not really sure what i'm doing with my life (well is anyone really?) but i'm thinking something psychology related as that's what i want to study at uni. idk, maybe i'll end up being a therapist or something haha. and i'm not very far along the journey as i'm still right in the middle of my gcses (save me), but i know i'm taking psychology for a level at least.

arcane - i have a tendency to project onto characters in media haha. i've been watching a tv series called the good doctor about a doctor with autism and i really like it so far. it's not a perfect portrayal of autism (because not everyone with autism has the same experience) but it's nice to see a character i can relate to on tv (as i also have autism :) ). it's a lot better representation than a lot of other autistically coded characters on tv (sheldon cooper - why did they have to make him so misogynistic?? -_-)

also charlie spring. he reminds me of both myself and a couple of my friends (they need hugs)

candlelight - i'm not sure if i could choose a favourite book honestly - i go though a lot of phases of being obsessed with different book series. i used to read a lotttt as a child, but then i got a phone and my attention span vanished :(, and i don't have time to read much anymore because i procrastinate hw.

i love percy jackson and all of rick riordan's books because of the lgbt representation - they helped me figure a few things out about myself :). also mythology is cool. i plan to reread all the series after exams when i have the time. my school is doing percy jackson the musical next year as a school production and i'll probably end up doing technical theatre for it :D.

i also had a massive his dark materials faze when i was younger. it lowkey became a personality trait. we got to study it in school though which was pretty cool.
