(MTMTE/IDW1) Tarn, (TFP) Starscream, & (IDW1/MTMTE) Misfire with Human Reader who is a good engineer & escape artist:

Starscream

{He captured you because he thought you were with the Autobots- you weren’t, and him capturing you was your first experience with the Cybertronians.}

{He just drops you in a cell and leaves some Vehicons to watch over you- but mere minutes later, he returns, and finds you, out of the cell, and some Vehicons chasing you down.}

{Several other times after this, he imprisons you yet again- getting more annoyed each time. And each time, you escape. He gives up, and after a talk with Megatron, instead of doing anything bad, they just let you walk around, but keep someone with you to make sure you don’t escape.}

{Among other little things he’s seen you doing around the ship, you seem to like designing and trying to invent things- he’s also seen you help out Soundwave with stuff.}

{Eventually, Megatron actually starts to consider you useful... at least a little bit, and he forces Starscream to be the one to watch you, nobody else- except Soundwave.}

{Starscream also finds use in you- mainly for the whole escaping thing. You’d most likely have an easier time getting in and out with important things that he needs.}

Tarn

{At first, he really isn’t even sure why he and the others are keeping you around- but you quickly prove yourself to the group with some of your skills.}

{You’ll use your engineering skills out of boredom (or for fun ofc), but you’ll also use them to help out Tarn and the others. Which Tarn much appreciates.}

{He and the others usually don’t have to worry too much if you end up getting taken or anything- because in a matter of seconds or minutes, you’re already making the way back to them.}

{Vos likes testing how well you are of an escape artist, so Tarn has walked in on the rest of the DJD (minus Nickel), seeing what all you can do- and there’s a lot. None of them have found what you can’t escape out of yet.}

Misfire

{He thinks it’s pretty cool. The escaping thing- he kinda zones out a little bit when you start talking about anything with the other part.}

{There was one time, during a typical Scavengers adventure, that you got captured. He and the others went to help you, but you weren’t at the place they thought you’d be.}

{Instead, you had escaped shortly after being placed wherever, and hid someplace else, waiting for them.}

{He’s pretty curious, so expect a lot of questions.}

{He also likes to see what everything is that you can escape from- it’s fun to watch.}

५ the cuddle position for me is: you lying in bed, jay stroking your hair with your head on his stomach and jakey hugging you, THEY JUST NEED YOUR ATTENTIONS SO PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THEM.

५ I see their showing affection to you is different, like jakey clingy ofc, kisses!! everywhere !! he loves kisses. give him lots of them. satisfy him. jay loves to be the little spoon ( BUT NOBODY NEEDS TO KNOW IT … ) pls when he is sad let him be the spoon, and you hold him tight.

५ I CAN SEE THIS TWO BOYS fighting to give you their clothes, then LITERALLY take turns exchanging things.

and oh my GOD it pissed me off BECAUSE SHE FOLLOWS THE HUNT!! SHE FOLLOWS THE HUNT!! SHE FOLLOWS!! THE!! HUNT!! like is this not common knowledge?? its almost certainly the driving force to her central conflict as a character, whether to remain with the xianzhou and risk her life for the hunt or to abandon it and become a nameless

like in those bits we see that she, like her parents, was a nameless, but also that she had great luck and used that luck to help the xianzhou in combat, and also she joined the hcq and the hcq were all labeled as outcasts, so maybe her long absences from the yaoqing/the orbit fleets drove a divide between her and her duty to the xianzhou because she just wanted to trailblaze, and this divide between her allegiance to the hunt and the trailblaze is what made her an outcast

also that line from blade always sticks out to me because baiheng is depicted as the one to bring wine to the hcq

so baiheng is bringing them (and consistently, jingliu, but we can assume since nobody else is mentioned to bring wine to them that baiheng is bringing wine to all of the hcq) wine which they used to "drown [their] sorrows"... i wonder who introduced that habit to them, considering she also introduced wine to them... but regardless this isnt directly stated in cannon so i wont focus on it

ok tldr

like just from the fact she fought with the xianzhou (and chose to return even after she'd go trailblazing) shows that she follows the hunt, i dont understand why her lore path is listed as just the trailblaze when its so clearly the main conflict of her character that she follows both the trailblaze and the hunt

ok enough yapping next point

SHE IS LITERALLY ONLY APPRECIATED INSIDE OF 1 SHIP. (LIUBAI) BUT SHE EXISTS AS HER OWN CHARACTER!!! but nooo instead we must have arguments about her because she "ruined the lore" no she didnt, the lore is fully coherent! ofc we dont have all the details but who cares! dan feng and yingxing tried to revive her thats all we need to know in regards to parts of the hcq's lore that had widespread consequences!! im whipping out my passerby analysis im sorry if the image is very small but tldr the beloved FRIEND cant be any other than baiheng its 2024 we need to stop arguing about passerby ok fellas

like im so sick of people only bringing her up in relation to ships, i am like one of like 5 other people who actually like baiheng for being baiheng and not just inside of a ship. baiheng is super cool!!! and so integral to the hcq story!! and also she's really pretty!! and we should talk about her more and appreciate her more!!

also i hate the thought that yingxing making the flask for her and "finally" making up his mind to give it to her has to imply something romantic, she was his beloved FRIEND and even those small words of encouragement she gave him on the zhuming gave him some confidence and optimism. them being friends and these words affecting yx (bearing in mind baiheng seems to be one of the first people to give yx encouragement, because he "seems to have a brighter expression on his face" after baiheng talks to him, why would he react like that if he was praised often) so deeply show how important they are to each other.

and also his choice to do the sedition with df can also be way more impactful because baiheng changed yingxing's life so much for the better, and now he cant stand the idea of her not being around and was grieving so much that he agreed to commit a major crime with dan feng just for a chance of bringing her back

ok now let's wrap this all up and put a bow on it (baiheng would look so cute with a bow in her hair omg)

the fact the WIKI cant even get this right when its so obvious baiheng followed the hunt is just crazy to me and people really need to appreciate baiheng as baiheng!! yes liubai is an amazing ship but she exists outside of it and her platonic relationships with ALL of the hcq are so important! people need to appreciate the hcq as a platonic family-esque quintet and also recognize the individual characters and dig into them all!! ok boom, take the hcq again i love them i hope we get stuff about them in 2.4 i really miss them

"Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" might've had a lot less kaiju action than the previous attempt to translate Godzilla into a TV series, but it more than made up for that in quality storytelling!

My sundry observations, gripes, praises and questions:

They really went out of their way to honor the Japanese roots of the source material, didn't they? We're in Japan for a ton of the show, dealing with Japanese and/or Japanese-descended characters for the majority of it, and have a surprising amount of Japanese dialogue throughout — it's nice.

I know Wyatt Russell is a Nepo Baby, but he's honestly still very good at what he does. I don't think the series has any bad acting... but the two Russells (because Kurt Russell is, ofc, amazing), Mari Yamamota (Keiko Miura) and Joe Tippett (Tim) are still the absolute highlights for most of the run, IMO. The Russells and Yamamota do the emotional heavy lifting with aplomb, whereas Tippett is so naturalistic and likable that it's hard not to find him engaging.

Cate starts off the series being such an asshole who doesn't show any empathy for people going through the EXACT SAME SHIT that she is, but I think the later reveal of her trauma on "G-Day" somewhat explains her attitude problem. She then manages to pivot to being much more likable JUUUUST in time for the episode where we get the flashbacks revealing she was a shitty person even BEFORE G-Day. LOL.

May ALSO swings between being likable and being a total ass, and while that sounds like a complaint, I actually sort of appreciate it. We're seeing the main female characters get the kind of nuance and depth to them that they aren't often afforde in mass-market media, and that's cool.

On the flip side, there's Kentaro. The fact that both Cate and May get to act both likable and dickishreally me expect the same thing for Kentaro. They're the trio of young people who make up the titular "Legacy," right? (Well, I guess that's mostly meant to refer to Cate/Kentaro.) So... I was shocked when Kentaro's chance to be a total prick never came around. He's pretty likable and understandable throughout! Even when he's being SUPER harsh on Hiroshi, I still understand it in light of what Hiroshi's done to their families. I feel like maybe Kentaro got something of a short shrift on this front. He gets adequate backstory, mind you, but he also never gets either A) as much focus time as May and Cate, nor B) a chance to come off like kind of a dick like May and Cate sometimes do? It's a little tempting to say that making him the more "pure" of the trio comes off as sexist, but... the way that he gradually is shoved into the background of the story's focus and doesn't even get to go on the big final adventure makes it pretty clear that this ISN'T because the producers favor Kentaro. More like the opposite....

In fact, take particular note of how nobody really gives him credit for how he was the ENTIRE REASON THEY SURVIVED Episode 4. They diss him and don't believe him, and when he's ultimately proven right in a way that saves all their asses? May gives the credit for her survival to Cate for some inexplicable reason. (Except for ONE later moment when neither Kentaro or Cate can know or hear her admit Kentaro saved them.) WTF. I found that frustrating.

That episode was the start of Cate and May becoming incredibly tight-knight with one another, and I'm still not clear on how/why that happened. Is it just because they both vascillate between being chlidish assholes and likable adults?? By the halfway point of the show, I was really getting strong shippy vibes off them. Which would be super cute and sweet if it wasn't also, y'know... kinda shitty. Because May used to be with her brother? Who clearly still had feelings for her when the series starts, just a few days prior? MMM.... not cool, May. To be fair, however, not always caring about their own hurtful/sketchy behavior is actually pretty in-character for them both, so maybe it works. And I suppose you gotta take that happiness where you can get it in this crazy, now-kaiju-laden world.

The character who shows up at the end of Episode 9 completely shocked me. They got me there. And in light of that twist — that character who disappears near the end of the finale? Perhaps this goes without saying, but there's no way we've seen the last of them. ZERO chance... unless the person portraying them doesn't renew their contract for season 2 or something. :P

This is, of course, a "Monsterverse" series. But the logic of how the Hollow Earth works in this show doesn't seem to REMOTELY align with how it was portrayed in Godzilla vs Kong, does it? Not even KIND OF. I wonder if Godzilla x Kong will get that disconnect to retroactively make sense.

At least one returning actor from the Monsterverse films shows up to provide a link... for one scene.

And speaking of the Monsterverse, that's hardly the only Continuity Sketchiness going on here! Serizawa only gets name-dropped ONCE in this series despite the fact that he's still presumably the HEAD DUDE IN CHARGE over there. They keep calling Verdugo the Deputy Director because Serizawa is the director, right?? Though Verdugo sure does make unilateral decisions about the whole-ass organizations multiple times in this show.

All of my prior point is especially goofy when the idea of HELPING Godzilla is treated as this shocking, bizarre concept ..... despite the fact that it's Serizawa's entire fucking philosophy since BEFORE this takes place???

Okay, let's shift back to positives: Takehiro Hira doesn't get as much screen time as many cast members, but his performances over the last two episodes are friggin' emotionally devastating. Fantastic.

The lack of more Toho monsters in the Monsterverse has been something of a downer for me personally, but they still do pull out some really cool original designs. That Frost Vark is pretty badass.

I sincerely think that someone should seriously talk to Annie at VBEOW so that the poor girl finally opens her eyes and realizes that there was never a "broken" relationship between her and her father, what there was was an abuser and a victim, who Say how sick it is that an abuser asks his victim to live with him to make up for his mistakes instead of acting like someone genuinely repentant and letting the victim be happy away from him.

However, I don't think it has to be Armin who intervenes in that awakening, he will surely try and Annie will be attacked because in her vision as a victim she is the monster and her father is the poor changed man who wants to correct his mistake and she the bad one in the story that doesn't let him do it. Then everything is going to explode and I already see them blaming each other for several things after this. Personally, Armin is the type of person who angrily says things he doesn't really mean in order to hurt (we saw it with Mikasa and everything he said when our boy was on the edge) But these are ramblings.

It will definitely have to be either Pieck or Oliver who makes her change her mind about her father, it will hurt and it will be a huge reality shock for our Annie. But really all his communication problems, self-esteem and mistrust COME BECAUSE OF HIM. She has to realize that she is the victim and that a victim could never be happy living with her abuser.

Annie's father has so far not featured prominently in VBEOW, and while I have no plans to put him in the limelight, the way he raised her is a huge portion of the person she is, and part of her past. And the past is very important, ofc.

Atm the relationship between them is "something that exists", at best. It's not comfortable, it's not warm, it hasn't stepped beyond the past, but it is something, and it is "stable". The subject matter of the life Annie lived with him when she was a child, and what she endured is not something she likes to address. She has massive trouble acknowledging the necessity of thinking about it multiple times through the chapters: when she first sees Aoife's bruises, when Aoife asks to be taught how to fight, when she visits her father in Ch.9, when she's in the middle of training the girl and remembers the sensations of insects.... and so on. It's also important to remember that while Armin has explicitly acknowledged the existence of her scars and the fact that he knows who caused them - and Annie accepts this, she has still not talked about it to him. He knows, and she knows he knows, and that's that - the status quo.

My point being that Annie does not "talk", and relevant to this topic particularly, Annie does not talk about her father, and does not want to voluntarily think of those bad memories.

There is guilt, however, surfacing. Guilt that he's crippled, guilt that he's alone, guilt that she isn't doing enough to repair the relationship. She would've been more than happy to take the chance to live with him, pre-Kald. But now she has so much, so many people surrounding her, teaching her everyday that she's cared for, loved, and looked after with respect... and she's changing, slowly, growing out of all the things that scared and stunted her. So the realisation that she isn't really looking forward to moving in with her father is quite a shock for her. But again, the two problems: (1) Unless Annie finally wants to "understand" the trauma she faced and how her father was not right for it, and (2) unless she "talks", there is nobody who is going to know of the problems she's trying to deal with (or not deal with, rather) regarding her father.

Then again :3! Things will be interesting! We'll see!

seriously this game has so much background/comfy queerness to it, i really appreciate it so much

like up top, the fact that your character's body/voice isn't tied to their gender id at all AND YOU CAN HAVE THEY/THEM PRONOUNS** (and all the voiced characters use them properly!!!!! like even random npcs like animals) ofc your companions are all bi/pan/queer and therefore romanceable by whoever (afaik?)

but also there are so many background/ambient npcs who are also just quietly queer (like they'll mention their partner or their pronouns, or be actually making out with their partner) like they really did a pretty good job making a lived in world and incorporating lots of people in it (they also seem to have done a pretty good job with diversity in face models/skin tones on the bg npcs at least, tho i wish they'd done more with the companions/more of the main arc characters)

*or bisexuals, idk, this is the only relationship we see them in but they could ofc be bi/pan etc.

**not to be incredibly shouty but i feel so seen! esp since other beloved rpgs have given shitty excuses in the past for not including non binary protags due to translation issues and stuff like that, so i hope they are all taking notes (and also i hope bg3 does crazy well so they'll have to).

Also I appreciate how normal everyone treats it, nobody makes a big deal out of it, they're just like "oh yes, this my friend, they are great" (it does still have some of the regular dnd problems of fantasy racism unfortunately which we could all do without, but at least nobody's making weird/internalized homophobic-ish comments at queer characters)

And I have few! Thunderhoof is genius cook, he loves cooking and baking, but he always act with anger when someone tell him to do that "Do ya think that I'm ya god damn maid? I was mafia boss on cybertron! Cook for yourself!", ofc after that he also acta with anger and yells if someone did something wrong in kitchen, and it usually ends on it that Hoofy is making breakfast, lunches, dinners, etc. for all of them while saying "what do they think they're making me do? no one is helping me here...!"

Ofc Steeljaw need to deal with it whole time long, because he can't cook a shit and probably he would die if he cook for himself longer than 2 weeks.

Steeljaw is always saying "bloody hell" or "dear Elizabeth" (instead of dear Primus)

Also Underbite likes calling Fracture emo kid.

Sideswipe has big problems with his hand writing, that is why whatever he wrote is unreadable (even sometimes for him too...)

Since Bee is haunted by OP's ghost, he is deeply scared that OP will show himself in really embarrassing moment for Bumblebee for example when he is laying pathetic in bed, watching Lucky Luke and eating kebab at 3am when nobody is in base... or having sex with Grimlock.

Sideswipe loves using human media like instagram or youtube, he's usually watching drag racing with Blurr when they are both on discord.

Drift loves christian looks of shrines, when he sees one near the street he immediately needs to make photos of it and rebuilt near their base.

Grimlock is allergic to cat fur and is very scared of those so called 'demons'. When cat will be near, not only will he panic, but the closer it gets, the more he will start to swell and redden, to the point when he will faint.

Sideswipe besides of his dashy looks and polished paint job, he also has natural talent for healing people. His talent was most awakened when the team ended up more and more injured after each fight, and they didn't have a medic on the team, so because of this big pressure he started to learning how to help his mates. Even if Danny and Fixit didn't let him help that much at the begging, sorry not sorry, it's red tampon, he once shoot himself in knees so it's pretty reasonable that they didn't trust him with some time they started to letting him help with small injures. :D

Fixit likes to collect things like figures, toys, etc. and when no one is in base with him he starts to play League of Legends or World of Warcraft XDDD He is also old bot, so he needs from time to time help with fixing himself and usually he asks for this Bee or Danny (he would also ask Drift, but he has too big fingers XDDD)

Strongarm gets pissed of every time when Bee tells the team that he has talk with Prime, because SHE wants to talk with his dad too and ask him one billion questions Their talk looks like this: "Optimus... just told me that-" "WHAT?! WHY DIDN'T YOU CALL ME SIR?!?!"

So anyway, my turn to throw some angsty Vinnie thought at you :) to be completely honest, many of them are similar to your Pepper angst, so I might just be repeating what you said but in Vinnie context

Cause I might be biased, in fact I definitely am, but you already know my stance on Vinnie's mistreatment let's call it by making him dumb as hell and a punching bag. Which while bad in itself, my angst loving heart kinda relishes in it, not gonna lie. Arguably, he receives the biggest number of insults throughout the show, to the point it's just there, not much attention being brought to it, it's just there for jokes with Vinnie himself barely reacting to them.

But of course, I'm inclided to think he would in fact have thoughts about it, negative ones, ofc. Cause I can believe that he's just chill like that and doesn't care much what others thing about him, even if it's purely negative. Well, I can believe tthat, to a point. Hear me out. He has his limit somewhered, at one point, perhaps sooner than anyone would expect, this really starts to hurt and eating at his self-esteem. I mean, how could it not? Not only is he constantly berated but also almost never complimented or appreciated (Need I even remind the whole Vinnie goes missing vs Sunil goes missing). Of course his self-esteem is basically non-existent. Though of course he wouldn't show it, not outwards, and not to himself, he doesn't want to admit even to himself that he's hurt.

He's not supposed to be after all, right? He's the chill one, easy-going, not caring about anyone's opinion about him, someone to laugh at and make a scapegoat whenever needed even if just for a bit of amusement. All that naturally fueled his self-hatred, because genuinely, how could it have not? So as much as those insults hurt, he expects them, it's a constant for him, maybe that's why he doesn't seemingly react to them much, because his brain is already telling him that he's stupid, talentless, unwanted etc etc. Quite frankly I'm surprised he doesn't have social anxiety by now, cause how do you get yourself together when your literal friends fuel your self-hatred?

And there's that fear of abandonment. Cause where the hell does he go if they leave him? Being alone is scary, because if he is that stupid then how is he gonna survive without being on friendly terms with smarter individuals? Besides, he loves them, he really does. If being treated like garbage ensures they stay even if just because he gets them something to be amused by and laught at, then he accepts being treated like that. Maybe they're right, maybe he's really not good at anything and they simply keep him around for that amusement and pity, and what if nobody besides them wants that amusement? He'd be alone.
