AAAAAA, OKAY-- @persephone-s-moon I could not find their updated refs for the life of me, so, woe, busted old concept art be upon ye. (Excuse the wonky proportions, these were done on my phone.)
Shortest rundown I can manage:
Did someone order a tragic throuple with time-travel/reincarnation shenanigans and a side of hurt/comfort/fluff?
Candavata Bhatia: Elven queen, from the kingdom of Sona, and the baddest bitch to ever live. In order to prove herself worthy of holding the crown over her sisters, she needed to channel one of the gods. So, not only did she channel one, she called upon Bijalee, the embodiment of lightning and storms--and the most difficult one to channel due to her wild and hazardous nature. She has been the only person to do so, aside from the First Queen. This earned her the titles of Storm Bringer and Lightning Tamer. She and Qamar are married and have been best friends since childhood. Can you tell I love her?
(Side note: Editing this on my laptop and holy ashy tone, Batman. Hoping it's just my screen because my girl does NOT look like this, I promise--)
Qamar Abn awaa: Werejackal prince, devout cleric of Layl, goddess of the night and medicine, and the definition of the "I'm a healer, but--" meme. He managed to show both great power and promise from an early age when, during a political visit to the Sona royal court, he used his knowledge of anatomy to turn one of Candavata's would-be assassins inside out. This is where he and Candi's marriage was arranged. He is of a generally very sunny disposition, which often makes people underestimate him, as they assume he's useless in serious situations--but, when shit hits the fan, he's the one you want to be next to. (I started designing him when I did not understand how to map out locs or braids. Qamar, my prince, I am so sorry, I swear I will do right by you and fix whatever monstrosity I gave you.)
Vincenzo Virago: Vampire duke. The intersection of an emotionally constipated killing machine and massive nerd failure. He's head over heels for both Candi and Qamar, but he doesn't feel like he can tell them, due to the fact that he views himself as unlovable, both wanting and growing jealous of them. (He is completely oblivious to the fact that they are also in love with him.) He's terrified of turning into his father, but it seems like everything he does only turns him further down that path. He's a warlord. He's a wet cat. He needs therapy.
It's a stable, constant dynamic. You never see one without the other. Where Qamar goes, Candi is right beside him, and Vince is right behind them. Whenever something goes wrong, usually they're at the center of it, all having different roles in the trouble. Candi, the planner, Qamar, the keen lookout, and Vince, the instigator. He keeps the two of them grounded, on their toes, and they do what they can to keep him away from his father. Even after they graduate and take their places in their respective castes, they stay in touch.
The story itself begins at the worst part of their relationship.
At this point, Candavata and Qamar have been married and are tending to their responsibilities as king and queen of their joined empire. Though they try to stay in touch with Vincenzo, it's difficult--and Vince doesn't make it easy, either. Over the years, he becomes withdrawn. He stops answering their letters, he refuses to see them when they come in person, every time. After a while, they stop trying. Not because they don't love him, they do, but there's only so much you can do when a person doesn't want (or doesn't think they deserve) help.
Vincenzo, after years of sitting with the jealousy and battling his father's horrendous treatment, broke. He didn't just spiral, he nose-dived, doubling down on every bit of gossip and rumor, until he's changed and warped into something even he can't recognize. He shuts out Candi and Qamar. Maybe he doesn't want to taint them, maybe he thinks this is how it was meant to go, maybe he can't stand their gentle hands or the pitying look in their eyes. Maybe he just wants the excuse. Whatever it is, Vincenzo becomes a monster, with blood on his hands.
In the end, Candi and Qamar had to be the ones to put him down.
Which is where we get into the time/reincarnation fuckery.
Because, when the pain fades and Vincenzo opens his eyes, expecting to see whatever eternal damnation looks like, he sees his university bedroom. Littered with textbooks and letters from Candi and Qamar, and his graduation robes hanging on the back of the door.
He's got a second chance to go back and unfuck everything, but only time will tell if he'll succeed or end up exactly where he was before.
Something, something, breaking cycles and being open with your loved ones, allowing yourself to be loved by others and yourself, and sometimes men are at their best covered in blood and a little bit pathetic.
(Oh, and, you want a really fun fact? Vince isn't the only one who remembers the original timeline.)
#literally so nervous to share this--usually my concept art never sees the light of day beyond a discord server#but I promised polycule lore and polycule lore you shall have#*holds gently*#they're my favorite couple I've made next to Anna and Gabriel#whose story I could literally fill the library of Congress with#there's so much more I want to add but this post is already getting long#oh and in case you were wondering#Candi is the one with the brain cell most of the time#Qamar has it second and Vince... well he tries#also Qamar is transmasc and basically did most of his HRT on his own#like he created his own regiment with his own magic from scratch#same with his bottom surgery--in fact he actually published a thesis on his own technique to be shared with other doctors#which is a whole process I can get into on another post#he's like Dr. Jekyll in that he practices his experiments on himself and doesn't involve other people because he understands consequences#and wouldn't potentially do irreversible harm to other people for “the betterment of the science”#and would also punch Victor Frankenstein in the jaw#which I could also get into on another post#(he literally dropped out of college! he doesn't have a doctorate! he abandoned his creation due to his own fuck up regarding it!)#anyway#vampire#Werejackal

I'm haunted by the surviving reel of The Dark Angel (1925). The other night I dreamt of it, I think. I keep fantasising about what it might be like and about actually going to Washington just to see it. Going insane.
#i still remember when i received the news i had such a crazed look in my eyes my family thought there was something seriously wrong#or that i was in love. which is not entirely inaccurate#so theres this classic hollywood actor...#but like this reel is constantly on my mind like what do you mean its out there. what happens in it!!!#i know the premise and all but what precisely.. are there good closeups of ronnie or vilma.. romantic scenes? is ronnie in the trenches yet?#second of eight reels is so random like idk.. im not sure what i'd have preferred though???#also if one reel survives why might they not all?? so the library of congress got it from a private collector.....#are all the reels out there circulating without us knowing?? where did the private collector get it from????#its so crazy in general that this film isnt fully preserved like many of ronnies others because like this was one of the biggest he was in??#im so sorry for all the rambling i just have a LOT of thoughts about the dark angel#the dark angel#ronald colman#fuck off me

I can't find my original post of this but this sounds like he wants that cookie (Alan Lomax) so effing bad like interpret it as I'm down badly like he wants Alan hmm (honestly I don't remember the context was about I thought oh he's probably in the south but I think Woody was still doing the dam stuff then I thought he was saying I'm down to work on Alan's cowboy ballad books (which is what the library of Congress says the inscription on the front of the postcard is but that doesn't really make sense slang wise so the only plausible answer is he's down badly for Alan and wants him also why sign with your initials like that is not really Woody...)

and this being the cover of the postcard doesn't really help either like especially the "when love's in the cowboy's eyes when his heart is light"
#I fear I'm going crazy about Woody and Alan#like everything under Lomax Guthrie at the Library of Congress website is gay and I don't think you guys understand#the way they write to each other...especially when they had to be long distance...it makes me crazy#but also that's because I'm gay and I will find yaoi in everything even if I don't want to#I also got a postcard like this recently and I'm gonna imagine it's from Woody#alan lomax#woody guthrie

I'm thinking about being cute and using the dewey decimal system to tag my more structured blog but I am foreseeing some problems as someone who takes a great interest in world religions
do you see the problem
#my diary#there is a similar snag in the language and the literature sections in that it is very. eurocentric.#I COULD use this opportunity to finally learn the library of congress system......... but I don't want to......#granted the system expands to accommodate this#sort of anyway#296 is for judaism 294 is for 'religions of indic origin' like hinduism and buddhism#I'm also not 100% clear on how I'll tag current events/civics there doesn't seem to be a section for that#I guess the 300s? or 320s? there are some unassigned numbers I could make bespoke tags technically#this is why you need a master's degree for this shit honestly#alternatively I could just stick to the highest level classifications and not get lost in the granularity#idk much to think about#terrible news I've also just been made aware of BISAC

🔥 The beacons are lit; the library calls for aid
The Trump administration has issued an executive order aimed at dismantling the Institute of Museum and Library Services - the ONLY federal agency for America's libraries.
Using just 0.003% of the federal budget, the IMLS funds services at libraries across the country; services like Braille and talking books for the visually impaired, high-speed internet access, and early literacy programs.
Libraries are known for doing more with less, but even we can't work with nothing.
How You Can Help:
🔥 Call your congressperson!
Use the app of your choice or look 'em up here: https://www.congress.gov/members/find-your-member
Pro tip: If your phone anxiety is high, call at night and leave a voicemail. You can even write yourself a script in advance and read it off. Heck, read them this post if you want to.
Phones a total no-go? The American Library Association has a form for you: https://oneclickpolitics.global.ssl.fastly.net/messages/edit?promo_id=23577
🔥Tell your friends!
Tell strangers, for that matter. People in line at the check out, your elderly neighbor, the mail carrier - no one is safe from your library advocacy. Libraries are for everyone and we need all the help we can get.
...Wait, why do we need this IMLS thing again?
The ALA says it best in their official statement and lists some ways libraries across the country use IMLS funding:
But if you want a really specific answer, here at LCPL we use IMLS funding to provide our amazing interlibrary loan service. If we can't purchase an item you request (out of print books, for example) this service lets us borrow it from another library and check it out to you.
IMLS also funds the statewide Indiana Digital Library and Evergreen Indiana, which gives patrons of smaller Indiana libraries access to collections just as large and varied as the big libraries' collections.
As usual, cutting this funding will hurt rural communities the most - but every library user will feel it one way or another. Let's let Congress know that's unacceptable.
#thank you for reading this whole thing!#now inflict it on your followers#libraries have always been political#<- that's our politics tag for filtering purposes#library funding#IMLS#institute of museum and library services#call to action#u.s. politics#public libraries#lcpl recs#current events#tumblarians#tumblrarians#long post

If you haven’t started already, start archiving/downloading everything. Save it to an external hard drive if you’re able. Collecting physical media is also a good idea, if you’re able.
Download your own/your favorite fanfics. Save as much as you can from online sources/digital libraries. Recipes, tutorials, history, LGBTQ media, etc. It has been claimed, though I can’t find the exact source if true, that some materials about the Revolutionary War were deleted from the Library of Congress.
It’s always better to be safe than sorry and save and preserve what you can. Remember that cloud storage also is not always reliable!
Library of Congress - millions of books, films and video, audio recordings, photographs, newspapers, maps, manuscripts.
Internet Archive - millions of free texts, movies, software, music, websites, and more. Has been taken offline multiple times because of cyber attacks last month, it has recently started archiving again.
Anna's Archive - 'largest truly open library in human history.’
Queer Liberation Library - queer literature and resources. Does require applying for a library membership to browse and borrow from their collection.
List of art resources - list of art resources complied on tumblr back in 2019. Not sure if all links are still operational now, but the few I clicked on seemed to work.
Alexis Amber - TikToker who is an archivist who's whole page is about archiving. She has a database extensively recording the events of Hurricane Katrina.
I'll be adding more to this list, if anyone else wants to add anything feel free!

Are you a student who is unable to donate to Palestine, but still want ways to show your support?
Me too! Unfortunately, searching up ways for students who can't drive, spend money, or drop school for a week to show solidarity for Palestine just comes up with "centrist" (if not blatantly pro-israel) articles for teachers telling them how to stay neutral during discussions with students. So! Here are some ways that I've thought of to bring pro palestine sentiment into your school and community! You are more than encouraged to add on any ideas of your own!
Wear shirts, pins, or anything outwardly pro palestine. If you can't find something, make it.
Email your representatives. Email Congress. Email the White House, or whatever your country's equivalent would be. Let the people in charge know you want a ceasefire
Talk to your local library about holding an educational night about the genocide, and/or about Palestinian culture.
Talk to your peers. Find people who share your views. Create a fuss together.
Talk to your teachers about it. Having an authority figure on your side could make things so much easier for you.
Make stickers, posters, pamphlets, etc to put up around your school, town/city, anywhere you can.
Educate yourself on anti-palestine talking points and how to refute them in a calm and logical manner. (Palestinian Toolkit is a great website for that)
Speak up! It's fucking scary, but if you can, don't let people's bigotry go unchecked. (You can use knowledge from the last point to make it easier to talk)
But also, know when to give up. It sucks, but not everyone is worth wasting your time debating. Some people won't change their mind no matter what.
#my stuff#free palestine#free gaza#strike for palestine#strike for gaza#a lot of information posts i see are mostly places you can donate#which you absolutely should if you can#but not everyone can#so i thought this could be a good starting point for some people#do what you can#from the river to the sea#from the river to the sea palestine will be free#gaza#palestine#palestine will be free#ceasefire#current events#endisraelsgenocide#gazaunderattack#activism#gaza strip#palestinian genocide#israel#gaza genocide

Has Biden actually done anything at all? There's evidence going around and I think it's compelling, the alternate to voting is instead doing actual social work and participating in protests and organizing political action, which is a good idea i think
1) Yes. Inarguably this has been the most effective progressive domestic administration since I have been alive, and I'm in my thirties. What in the fuck are you talking about? It's not perfect, but it's better than we've seen in fifty years: Obama tried, but Democratic Congressional organization was just not yet used to working with a completely obstructionist GOP Congress in the wake of the tea party.
Even in terms of foreign policy, this is also pretty much as good as US involvement gets. Sorry. Our foreign policy has been shaped by monsters for decades, and that's even without dealing with our huge and active branch of Christian doom cultists. There ain't a candidate in the world that could stop the entire accumulated momentum of geopolitics with a snap of the finger, and I'm not really willing to pretend that Biden is particularly notable for not managing to fix Israel/Palestine relations.
2) In your own words, anon, what precisely does organizing political action entail without participating in the political process? Do you think that abstaining from the part of the gig where you, the citizen, get to say which official gets the job somehow makes your opinions matter more to your elected public officials? Have you ever organized to get so much as a municipal one-time library project budget expanded? Are you perhaps only skilled at political argument with people who already agree with you on the Internet?
What is your leverage, and could it reasonably be described as "extortion" or "blackmail" or "political corruption?" Because those are pretty much the only things on the table that can work more effectively to drive an elected official than a disciplined coalition of political allies (who can be purchased with, you guessed it, votes) or a reliable bloc of voter support. Your vote matters less than the ones you bring with you, sure. Do you think that not voting yourself somehow helps people organize to drive more votes? Have you perhaps replaced your complex reasoning skills with a rapidly dying jellyfish?
3) Holy passive vagueness, Batman! "Evidence is going around." What a masterpiece of a sentence! How it suggests everything while providing nothing! What evidence? Who collected it? Who is talking about the evidence "going around?" Who is listening? How many of them are there? What did they think before? The more I think, the more questions I have, and damn if they ain't predisposing me to be even less charitable.
Like, this is so catastrophically poorly supported that I have to confess that I not only believe this is probably an ask in bad faith (i.e. by someone who is expecting to piss me off or otherwise engage with me adversarially, probably spammed to a whole host of blogs at once with no expectation of response) but I actively hope that it is. The alternative is to have to grapple with the reality that some people are so uncomfortable with the responsibility of moral agency that they're willing to release useful levers of legal and social power just so that they never do anything problematic with that power. Much better, of course, to wash one's hands of anything that might have the stink of responsibility clinging to it. Might fall from the membership of the Elect if you actually get yourself all muddy by doing things, I reckon.
I don't even believe that voting is the only lever we have when it comes to our elected officials or that votes are necessary to secure change, and I am certainly not talking about the presidential ticket alone when I talk voting. What I do believe is two things: one, that voting is a potential lever of power on the emergent chaos of the society in which we live. And two, that anyone telling me to leave a lever of power on the ground without a damn good reason is either incompetent, malicious, or both.

ABBA - Dancing Queen 1975
"Dancing Queen" is a song by the Swedish group ABBA, released as the lead single from their fourth studio album, Arrival (1976). It was written by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Stig Anderson. Andersson and Ulvaeus also produced the song. It was a worldwide number 1 hit, topping the charts in more than a dozen countries including ABBA's native Sweden (where it spent 14 weeks at the top), Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, West Germany, the UK, Ireland, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa, and Rhodesia. "Dancing Queen" also topped the charts in the US, ABBA's only number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was a Top 5 hit in Austria, Finland, France, and Switzerland. The song sold over three million copies. The track was the fourth biggest single of 1976 in the UK.
Musically, "Dancing Queen" is a Europop version of American disco music. As disco music dominated the US charts, the group decided to follow the trend, replicating Phil Spector's Wall of Sound arrangements. Andersson and Ulvaeus have cited George McCrae's "Rock Your Baby" as a source of inspiration for the style of the song. For their 1980 Spanish-language compilation-album Gracias Por La Música, ABBA recorded a Spanish version of "Dancing Queen", renamed "Reina Danzante", with Spanish lyrics provided by Buddy and Mary McCluskey. The track was retitled "La Reina Del Baile" when included on the compilation album ABBA Oro: Grandes Éxitos in the 1990s.
For the soundtrack of the 1994 Australian film Muriel's Wedding, songwriters Ulvaeus and Andersson allowed the use of "Dancing Queen" and other ABBA hits. "Dancing Queen" was among the ABBA songs included in Mamma Mia!, the jukebox musical first produced in 1999 and adapted into film in 2008, as well as the sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018).
"Dancing Queen" was chosen as #148 on the Recording Industry Association of America's Songs of the Century list. It was ranked #171 on Rolling Stone's 2004 list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. In 2000, editors of Rolling Stone with MTV compiled a list of the best 100 pop songs; "Dancing Queen" placed 12th among songs of the 1970s. In 2023, it was ranked #2 on Billboard's list of The 500 Best Pop Songs. In June 2015, "Dancing Queen" was inducted into the Recording Academy's Grammy Hall of Fame. In 2022, "Dancing Queen" received a BMI Million-Air award, having been played 6 million times on radio in the US. Two years later, it was inducted into the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry. The music video was directed by film director Lasse Hallström, and it had over 800 million views on Youtube as of December 2023.
"Dancing Queen" received a total of 93,4% yes votes! Previous ABBA polls: #361 "Waterloo".
