before I sleep, here is my definitive ranking on all the NPMD songs and some rambles on why I placed them there - also the ranking is based on how much I vibe with them (music production and lyricism have different rankings)

1. Hatchet Town (aka the hatchetfield trilogy theme song like this tune perfectly encapsulates the chaos Hatchetfield has to go through with every Starkid project pos-2018 and I love it - kinda wish it was a number that is more integrated with the plot with the kids tho BUT I REALLY DID LIKE that this melody was quite prominent in the other songs too)

2. High School is Killing Me (I've watched many teen centered musicals and believe me when I say that this song is one of, if not, the best introduction numbers out there for this genre - also it's a really great opening hook for a show)

3. Nerdy Prudes Must Die (FUCKING AMAZING HONESTLY - amazing way to REALLY re-establish a villain back from the dead and to establish the main theme for the nerds here: "I'm Not A Loser" (tho i fucking wish that motif was used a bit more))

4. Just For Once (everyone cheer for Lauren Lopez flexing not just her high tier soprano skills, but also how amazing of a fucking actor she can be like the concept of this song is quite layered and to pull it off both comedically and emphatically takes great lyrical and acting prowess)

5. The Summoning (a well-anticipated onstage introduction to all 5 of the LiB that balances out befuddling neon-entertainment with genuine fucking menace)

7. Cool As I Think I Am Reprise (A FUCKING GENIUS REPRISE I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH HOW COOL I FIND THEM RECONTEXTUALIZING THE OG SONG AND IF I LOVED YOU TO FIT THE SITUATION AND BOTH OF THE CHARACTERS GROWTH. LIKE IN TERMS OF THEMATIC IMPLICATIONS WITH CHARQCTER DEVELOPMENT, THIS SONG AND ITS SCENE WOULD BE THE TOP)

6. If I Loved You (I think this song could be a bit more honestly like I know how much Starkid has explored Steph and Pete's relationship in their other projects and I was really hoping that they would have it more portrayed here - however the song is a bop nonetheless and it matches neatly with their themes and the harmonies are top tier. I placed this higher than the next just due to my personal bias like I really do like the song)

8. Dirty Dudes Must Die (A GREAT TWIST THAT MAKES ME WANT ANOTHER MUSICAL ABOUT GRACE CHASITY'S DERANGED SELF - also the new context of the song Grace is reprising here makes her a villain even scarier than MAX of all people but that's just me)

9. Literal Monster (A very catchy beat and well structured song that provides a good introduction to a jock-bully with the god complex. also kinda foreshadowing to nerdy prudes must die)

10. Cool As I Think I Am (the instrumentation reminded me of Dear Evan Hansen ngl fjsjd but it really does sound like an I-Want song from a teen-musical which is of course what they are going for - it sounds very nice and earnest though and I loved how it was utilised in the reprise. However I still fucking wish that the I'm Not A Loser motif was used more)

11. Dirty Girl (look I'm sorry for ranking this quite low on the list but like there is no fucking way I'm using this as bait to lure other people in like they'd be scared away I'm sorry fjdjs BUT I love how Will and Angela perform this though like top tier starkid performances ever - its not just what I would listen to on repeat personally jgjdjs)

12. Go Go Nighthawks! (This one gets plus points because of FUCK YOU CLIVESDALE GO GET FUCKED. otherwise its nice and cheery and perfectly shows how happy everyone is without Max but um I kinda wish it could be a bit more especially in terms of showing how happy the other nerds are now that Max is gone but that's just me)

13. Bully The Bully + Bury The Bully (Look I couldn't decide which was better like they both are the same melodies so like gjxjs these two are cute though and I liked seeing the 5 kids bonding in Bully The Bully since we don't get that many scenes with them)

14. The Best Of You (the pop-punk happy number is a staple of teen-centered musicals and it does really sound nice - just isn't that much of a standout compared to the others.)

So… recent obsession rn 🙏😭😭 the past few weeks I’ve spent watching all of the Hatchetfield series (NPMD, Black Friday, TGWDLM, Nightmare Time)

I’m so obsessed over it UGHHEHEH it’s so good. I’ve specifically been obsessed over the Lords in Black (they are evil but I love them sm)

So I’m gonna be posting a lot abt them (my interpretations of how they look too in certain aspects) They will probably be ooc but oh well 🙏🙏

Okay. I haven't watched the NT stuff yet IM SORRY. I know enough though to know that Peter and Richie went to the police station every single day, begging the police to do anything about their missing family.

I don't want to think about post npmd. I don't want to think about how Pete lost his best friend and Paul lost his nephew and Ted's desperately trying to hold himself together while trying to support the two most important people to him. (He doesn't think about how it used to be three. How he'd really just started to build that bond with Richie when he died.)

Richie is traumatized when Ted dies. Think that one fic (you know the one) but Richie is also in semi-shock. Paul shows up to Richie and Pete clinging onto each other, shaking and staring off into the distance. The longest they disconnect is ten seconds while changing. Paul waits until they go to bed to break down crying, but Peter wakes up because of a nightmare and heard him crying. They spend the rest of the night crying and talking about Ted (Richie joins after a little bit. He could tell that Peter wasn't there. He panicked when he woke up and Peter wasn't there).

I have this crossover idea. Sarah Christ x Creekside Killer amangela hatchetfield alternate universe where the creekside killer is Grace Chasity (played by Angela), whose serial killings used to be under the name of Christ killer since she killed in the name of the ‘lord’ as heard through rumours (this changes eventually to Creekside Killer, Grace does these killings for the lords in black and want to use her to obtain more power, do evils things idk)

I think it matches up because the creekside killer is infamous for their strength (I like to think that the creekside killer is interpreted as a ‘him’ due to strength, bodied a man to death but I see this as the dark arts and stealing souls as grace learns at the end of npmd), and the timeline is so lost with Sarah Christ lol. She doesn’t even know how long she’s been searching (maybe she’s been chosen to unironically cleanse the world of the lords in black, somehow fitting of her last name of Christ) but it’s her destiny to save the world from the Creekside Killer. I think this would be like whatever happens in Black Friday with Lex (who is also played by Angela lol) when she is chosen by General McNamara to fight the supernatural and evil from the Black and White?

anyways I think it would be an epic idea (also love the idea of someone known as the Christ killer x Sarah Christ) but I do not have the time to draw nor write this rn but I am. Thinking about it so hard guys. I just watched Black Friday and NPMD, probably will get to the rest of the hatchetfield musicals so I’m trying to work out more details

Why is my ideal gender "Generic looking white man"

Like. Paul (Starkid / Hatchetfield universe) and Stanley (the Stanley parable) are my biggest gender envy rn and idk what to do with this information.

(also side note. I feel like a moron for never giving "the guy who doesn't like musicals" a chance when it came out. I have watched it and Nerdy Prudes Must Die twice AND listened to NPMD soundtrack like 3 times plus watched SO many clip reels from both shows. Its been like 2 days...

I watched Black Friday too but it didn't hit as hard as the other 2 did for me. Love Wiggly tho...)

So I went back and rewatched all of the Hachetfield stuff, and now I have some ✨questions✨ and also possible ✨theories✨

(I don't know how much has been talked about before in theory circles, so go easy on me if these are widely accepted theories or questions that have been answered a million times before)

1- The LiB and their altars

Ok, so first off we know there are 5 black altars and 5 LiB- it only makes sense that each altar was dedicated to one LiB in particular- but can be used as a general altar if the need calls for it.

I believe we can determine which altar belongs to which LiB by where that Lord showed up first in the series.

So Pokey's altar is the Starlight Theater, Wiggly's was the old mill (now Lakeside Mall), and Tinky's was The Gazette (in Time Bastard, we learn the Gazette eventually turns into CCRP- Paul and Ted's workplace), Nibbly's is the Waylon place, and Blinky's is Hachetfield High.

I'm pretty sure Nibbly's is the Waylon place because in Honey Queen, the CotSC bring Linda to the middle of nowhere for her to be possessed by Nibbly. I'm gonna run under the assumption that the Church would almost certainly bring her to one of the altars for such an important ceremony- but none of the other altars fit such an out-of-the-way description.

I also think that Blinky would LOVE the drama that goes on behind the scenes of a Hachetfield High, and something about him having an amusement park also tells me that he may enjoy watching drama between children more than he does adults.

2- Grace Chastity may have a touch of "the gift"

My main reasons for thinking this comes from Abstinence Camp and NPMD.

First, Grace was able to get the ax-man to turn on Jerry and Jeri after a single conversation. The ax-man also gave her his ax as a symbol of passing the torch to her to protect the woods. I don't think that would have happened without a little intervention.

Secondly, after the scene with Richie's death, Grace wakes up and says she saw Max- looking angry and not hot at all- and while I do believe it was mainly played for laughs, SHE STILL SAW HIM. I don't know if it *was* just a dream, but dreams have been used as shorthand for having "the gift" before, and I don't believe in coincidence with these shows.

I don't think she has a strong version of "the gift" but I do believe that it's enough that her having the black book will end up being a problem for everyone else.

3- Was the "ghost" of Ethan really a ghost?

This one may seem strange, but Ethan died pretty violently in BF- and he was also at an altar when it happened. That vision Hannah saw of him- was it just a puppet of Wiggly, or was it a little closer to what Max is?

Is Max just more powerful because he made a more violent promise as his last words?

4- The entirety of season 2 is the same timeline

This one is pretty self-explanatory, but the main gist is that, if it happened in season 2, then it falls on one timeline in the Hachetfield saga.

Yellow Jacket is the last event in this timeline, and it starts with Perky's Buds.

Every story in this timeline mentions the Honey Festival. While at the Honey Festival, we get clear signs that things tie together.

In PB- Ziggs is making the pin-up girl specifically to be their mascot to present at the festival.

In AC- I'm pretty sure Steph says that she's going to miss the Honey Festival

HQ- this one is obvious.

Daddy- the mother says she's going to pick up a new father from the Honey Festival- she comes back with Ted.

KT- Ted and the mother flirting. Zoey's roommate asking for something that will ruin Zoey's voice.

YJ- young Sherman sitting on the counter at toy zone.

That's most of them for now- I have other thoughts, but none want to come to me rn. I may update this later with more.

I feel like I already might have responded to your other post? but maybe I’m going crazy

(Keep in mind I’m no expert I’ve only been watching them for around 3-4 years)

Starkid is an independent theatre production group. The writers are two brothers, Nick and Matt Lang, and they’ve been making shows since 2009 when they were at college (I forget where rn) Starkid isn’t just the writers. It’s whoever has been a part of it over the many years. Some of the actors only have been in one or two shows, some have been in almost every single one to date. But they’re all Starkids

Their first theater show (barring a couple other projects I believe) was A Very Potter Musical, a parody of Harry Potter.

They’ve since then written some more parodies, including more Harry Potter ones and a Batman one, and a number of hilarious and bizarrely creative shows about anything from humans colonizing a planet of bugs (Starship. It’s rlly good) to a show about a guy and his dick (Me & My Dick. Actually this is the only one I haven’t seen yet)

Anywayyy I’m guessing you’ve noticed my current obsession with their show Nerdy Prudes Must Die, and boy would I love to enlighten you in the Hatchetverse: the multiverse of stories that take place in the tiny town of Hatchetfield. The genre is horror comedy.

The Hatchetfield musicals aren’t particularly in order because, but the first one is The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals, a musical about an apocalypse that’s a lot scarier than it sounds. Then there’s Black Friday, a musical about the craze of capitalism with also an evil god involved.

Technically there’s also the Nightmare Time episodes that came out in between Black Friday and NPMD. Those also take place in Hatchetfield but are more lore heavy so probably don’t watch those unless you’re really into it (they’re good tho)

And finally, there’s Nerdy Prudes Must Die. A musical about high school seniors, their bully who has a god complex, the horniest and most deranged Christian girl, accidental murder, more murder, and throw some more eldritch horror gods in there.

Okay okay maybe none of that made sense but i am so happy answer more questions because if you can’t tell I’m a bit fixated on this fandom right now

(Please please watch the hatchetfield musicals at least. They’re so good I promise)
