hey could any otherlink people explain something to me? how do you choose to identify as something and not feel like youre faking or something? and why can shifts happen for something you picked? do you choose to shift? if not, how is the identity voluntary but the shifts arent?

cuz with most of my theriotypes, i research into different animals and when i find whatever fits best, i just kinda assume thats what i am and take on the label cuz it makes sense and feels right, but that doesnt mean that i picked it right? idk i get a lot of self-doubt for all sorts of my identity so its probably why im doubting myself in general

The purpose of this survey is to collect data about the experiences of people who feel sensations of nonhuman body parts, for example, wings or a tail. Some call these supernumerary phantom limbs, phantom shifts, otherlimbs, or astral limbs, though you may have other preferences for the words you use for your own experiences. If you haven't had those experiences, you can participate in this survey too. This survey was made for people who call themselves otherkin, therianthrope, furry, or any other potentially alterhuman or nonhuman identity. If you don't describe yourself with any of those words, you can participate in this survey too.

Who is running this survey and why: The person running this survey is Orion Scribner (they/them), an otherkin/therianthrope who has been making projects about these communities since 2005. I will use the results in my panel at an Internet-based convention later this year (OtherCon 2024), and in other future research projects.

Do whatever you like. Let everyone do whatever they like. The non-human community should be about this, to be about being your most free and authentic self. And if the most free and authentic self of someone doesn't fit your cookie cutter, and doesn't hurt anyone, who cares??

Let's be a community, like we're supposed to be.

Let's not exclude people, who don't do anything wrong, but experience their own reality.

I started using it/its and it's slightly helped with my species dysphoria, because I feel like people more often refer to animals as it/its "It's so cute!" "what's its name?" "How old is it?" (Plus many many other examples that I'm too lazy to list out!)

I hate theriantok

No, not bc of the gear, the """"fakers""", kids, or anything of the sorts.

But because of the fucking amount of humans who can't mind their business. Like, I can't go to one comment section without being BOMBARDED with therian hate. I simply cannot find our community in these comments.

I can't go through like, 3 videos, without seeing either outsiders straight up hating on us, or a video being like "look at these weirddd humans who think they're animals oooo so weird!! Point and laugh guys" treating us like zoo animals. And that's so upsetting to me. We're just living our lives.

Leave us alone!! Go away!! These are our safe spaces.

I really love the variety of dragons within the alterhuman community :} it's awesome how we all have so many different colours, builds, behaviours, origins, etc, how 'dragon' encapsulates such a large group of animals!!
