My honest review and opinion on kalki 2898 AD movie;
I just watched the movie today and I do have a few opinions about this movie..
So, first of all, I'm ngl but i really love Amitabh bacchan sir's acting, He , as always was brilliant! Like he is above 80 but the way he carried himself as the role of aswatthama was brilliant!
I did love Kamal Hassan sir's acting even though his screen time was less, the makeup for me was kinda brilliant, and he's a phenomenal actor.
Deepika Padukone in her mother era! She's such a beauty! Like man how the hell is she so beautiful, like wow! Mother is mothering for me!
Saswata chatterjee sir, fellow bong, you were amazing even though I kinda didn't like the comedic thing that they added to Manas's character, but trust me, he was brilliant like always! But My parents did love the comedic thing tbh!
Okay, so Prabash, compared to Adipurush, here his acting and expressions did improve a lot for which he does deserve applause. But honestly, I didn't really like the character of Bhairava, honestly for me the comedic timings were really unnecessary. I mean, making him a tad bit serious would've done it tbh. His acting at some places was kinda stiff , but compared to Adipurush, it was great but still not at the Bahubali level.
Now regarding the movie in general:
The first half before the interval was confusing. I'm ngl but it took me some time to understand certain places and the comedy wasn't really necessary at certain places.
The second half does really picks up the pace , like the second half compared to the first was really better tbh.
I loved the part where they tried to bring every religion together and wanted to convey that every religion is similar to eachother was amazing!!!
Now mythology wise, being a mythology fan and a history nerd,
I hated how they made Arjuna look arrogant, like guys, Arjuna is described as a brilliant warrior, strategist with the kindest heart during that eta. It is often said, that arjuna was considered to be the most humane out of them all. And making him arrogant was not that great according to me.
And bringing karna there was totally unnecessary! His character was not needed! It was not all needed to bring karna back and give him a re-birth.
Aswatthama part I can understand, considering he was cursed to have immortality but still
I feel like they could've brought arjuna back tbh, because it is said that Krishna and Arjuna are parts of the same soul, so it would've done them good if they brought arjuna back to make him as Kalki's guide and friend instead!
And c'mon, the fact that they tried to portray that arjuna only won because of having gandiva, Krishna and Hanuman on his side is wrong. Like he was the greatest warrior of his generation, give him the credit! The respect that he deserves for his prowess!
And giving Gandiva to Kali?! Like if they wanted to add a celestial weapon, they could've added Sharanga, the bow of vishnu instead. Gandiva is not even related to Vishnu or his avatars . And it is said that only arjuna, Krishna and bhima could've lifted the bow, so how can kali lift it? I feel like they wanted to portray that , what would happen if a great power falls into the hands of the evil, but then use Sharanga bow instead of gandiva.
Nag Ashwin sir, even though I really like the action scenes, I feel like, it needs a bit more research on the mythological context.
This is my personal opinion so please respect it!

Real talk: do you guys think I am Shiva? He's the destroyer. Should I even ask that tho? That seems kind of strange to me especially as a prisoner/lover/and slave of Jesus Christ. But idk. I cannot get this idea out of my head. And Rudra is like calling out to me or something. I actually try to reject that stuff and not listen to it, it's too weird and esoteric and idk.. but it keeps coming up again. And who is NMUHAMODH NGU?
Was Muhammad (PBUH) a true prophet, a prophet sent only to and for the Djinn (earthbound souls of children and/or sprites), a covert apostle, a fraud, a victim of conspiracy and persecution, a charismatic, a conqueror, (just) another author, or someone or something else?..
Just another author: that's the funniest option to me. Covert apostle would be the most interesting. But I think my answer would have to be that he was a persecuted messenger sent only to and for the Djinn whose material got twisted up by the uncles and made into a religion. Idk. That seems really kind of random or specific I guess. But that's just how I feel. Dude actually I'm pretty confident on that, but I don't really have facts or support to back it. I don't know why I just really really feel it.
Islam is a cancer on the world still. But the fine points of beauty is Islam cannot be erased.
Also, do you guys believe the Apostle Paul is my Roshi? :) I love him so much. I love him more than words can tell. Dude his heart is so amazing. I just love him even though multiple times I've tried to reject him and consider the Bible without his books. Sometimes I don't even want to read his letters because I cannot grasp the contents and I get so confused. Other times I'm craving them more than anything else in the world. Ephesians. Philippians. Philemon.
I wonder if I embrace Shiva, if I then have to credit something to the other deities of Hinduism.. what would they be? Kali, Krishna and other avatars of Vishnu, Rama, Saraswati and Mahishasura Mardini (I'm very curious about those two).. Durga, Brahma, Ganesha, and others.. and what about Hanuman as Shiva.. what about Hanuman????? I thought maybe Shiva was an angel or just MAHA SAGAR or something. I guess Shiva is a time traveler kind of..
I just gotta quit this leaven, My Guys. I just don't know if I can.

Best Places to Visit in India For A Perfect Summer Getaway
Our very own Sun, a huge ball of fire, is at its strongest. Finding some refuge away from the plains is the best way to escape the summer heat. Fortunately, India is endowed with a variety of summer vacation destinations that offer some relief from the oppressive heat wave, including mountains, hills, beaches, exotic forests, and other landscapes. The summer season in India starts in the month of April and lasts through the end of June.
Tumblr media
People start looking for tour packages for a summer escape. There are some incredible cold spots in India for people wishing to get away and make some memories with their friends and family during these summer vacations. There are several additional cool places in India to visit in the summer in addition to these hilly areas.
The top destinations in India for summertime travel are listed below. Before making travel arrangements to India, take a look at the list and mark out the items you want to experience at least once for a touching adventure. Book your tour packages for a summer vacation in advance for a hassle-free journey. The fact that they cover the entirety of India rather than just a small area as was previously thought is astonishing. It is an exceptional assortment of hill stations, cities, and towns to which you can look forward without perspiring in the sweltering summers.
1.     Manali, HimachalPradesh
In India, Manali is one of the most popular tour destinations throughout the year. A trip to Manali conjures up images of verdant mountains encircled by snow-capped peaks, a breath of fresh air, and a relaxed escape. One of the most breathtaking places in India to travel to in the summer is Manali. It has stunning landscapes, an abundance of vegetation, and amazing flora and fauna. One of the best things to do in India during the summer is adventure sports. At Solang Valley, you can engage in them. Here, you can try zorbing, quad riding, paragliding, and a lot of other things.
2.     Shimla, Himachal Pradesh
One of the most popular summer vacation spots in Northern India is Shimla, a well-known hill station that expertly blends Indian grandeur with British elegance. A rich history has been left behind, and its natural beauty has been blessed. Shimla should be on your list of the coolest places to visit in India in May and June if you're searching for a rejuvenating yet exciting escape. Find out more about the famed Mall Road, which attracts most tourists. Jakhu Hill is another option, and getting there from Shimla is a quick and lovely journey. Enter this temple to worship Lord Hanuman. The family-friendly tour packages can be easily booked to have a perfect summer vacation with your family.
3.     Rishikesh, Uttarakhand
In Rishikesh, the Ganga flows throughout the Land of the Gods. It perfectly combines traditionalism and modernism. People are fervently trying to reach the Ram Jhula and LaxmanJhula and taking holy dives on the one hand, while on the other, in the same waters, river rafting enthusiasts are relishing the fury of the water. On one hand, there are the Sadhus with their chants. To reach NeelkanthMahadev Temple, you must walk 17 kilometers up the east bank of the Ganga. For the shopaholics, there are thousands of stores offering Nataraja, diamonds, Nehru jackets, religious items, and comic books that depict Hindu mythology and Indian history.
4.     Auli, Uttarakhand
Auli in the summer is the coolest spot in India, welcoming visitors from all over the world. Both in the winter and the summer, it is a well-liked ski resort in India. One of the nicest places to visit in India in the summer is the region with the backdrop of lush meadows and snow-capped hills. The fact that the weather is so beautiful is the icing on the cake, and you would undoubtedly place Auli high on your list of the top summer holiday spots in India. 5.     Mussoorie, Uttarakhand
If your vision of the perfect holiday involves tranquil hills, an untouched environment, and a trip that is authentic in every aspect, Mussoorie is the place you should go. Mussoorie, popularly known as Queen of The Hills, is tucked away in the Garhwal Himalayan ranges and has a serene, comfortable temperature all year long. Due to its pristine, unaltered natural beauty, Mussoorie is a popular honeymoon location. Mussoorie is the place to go if you want to witness the breathtaking sight of the gently sloping green slopes standing in stark contrast to the snow-capped summits of the Himalayas. It is one of the most romantic travel destinations that can be visited with romantic tour packages  for a relaxing and reasonably priced trip.
6.     Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh
Most people are familiar with Dharamsala thanks to the stunning stadium where Kings XI Punjab used to play their IPL home games, which is flanked by snow-capped mountains. It is the residence of the 14th Dalai Lama and one of the most beautiful hill towns I've ever visited. For sightseeing, check out the Yol Camp, the Kangra Art Museum, and Kotwali Bazaar, all of which housed Italian POWs during World War II. This is undoubtedly one of the best places to go during the summer near Delhi because of the bustling McLeodganj in Upper Dharamsala and the classic Indian hill village in Lower Dharamsala.
7.     Gangtok, Sikkim
The northeastern region of India, particularly Gangtok, is one of the most beautiful and popular tour destinations to travel to in May and June. However, it is not a very sought-after tourist spot. The gorgeous backdrop of Khangchendzonga, lush foliage, deep valleys, and the capital city of Sikkim are all around the city, which is nestled in the clouds.
8.     Kashmir, J&K
How could anyone fail to mention Kashmir, the top summer destination in India, when discussing summer travel destinations? The ideal trinity for any traveler to discover is the Kashmir Valley's Pahalgam, Gulmarg, and Srinagar. The three are in fact nothing less than hidden paradises. Whoops, Looks like the protagonist has been doused with water. Enough that it's made their shirt basically see-through and the wet fabric is defining their physique. The Summoners guild members see this first-hand, what are their reactions? (Extra points if the protagonist is unconsciously making an appealing pose.)
Ah yes nothing like flustering our fav Summoners~ I know that these were supposed to be spicy but honestly I think they turned out more funny than anything lmao. Hope ya still like em hun~!
------
Toji
It had been raining during classes - you’d noticed it starting up earlier on and had promptly distracted yourself from the rest of the class to focus on watching the raindrops race down the window. By the time class lets out it’s died down to a light drizzle which you can tell everyone is thankful for not having to head back in a downpour, though the pools of water that have collected along the gutter and pavements are deep enough that your shoes practically disappear into a puddle when you accidentally stepped into it on the way out. You’re so preoccupied trying in vain to shake as much water off of your now soaked socks as you can that you end up falling behind Toji, reaching the crossing by the time he had already crossed over to the other side. Making a move to step out into the street you barely even leave the pavement before a car comes racing past, ignoring the lights and just barely missing you as it all but sends a wave of water right into your face.
The force is enough that you stumble back, whirling around to cuss out the driver as you storm across the road and spit out what water had managed to get into your mouth when you screamed with growing disdain. You’re so pissed at your bad luck that you don’t even think to check the state of your poor uniform before you suddenly feel something draped across your shoulders the second your feet touch the pavement on the other side. It’s Toji’s coat, and when you turn to him you can see he’s trying his damn hardest to look anywhere but at you with a steadily reddening face. He warns you that the water has turned your shirt practically translucent, and to hold onto his jacket until you can find a better alternative, but it’s hard to take him seriously when he won’t even make eye contact with you after spotting your rain-sodden state.
You laugh and joke that it’s not the first time he’s seen under your shirt, watching his face turn and even prettier shade of red as he’s quick to correct you that patching you up is different, and to be more careful with what you say before others assume the wrong idea. Sure it’s a bit of a killjoy if you want to tease him about it further, but you’re grateful that he gave you his jacket nonetheless, burying your nose into the fabric and sighing at the welcome warmth it provides against the cold chill of your soaked clothes. It smells just like him and the cozy feeling of it makes you forget all about your anger at the driver as the two of you begin to head back to the dorm rooms, not noticing the soft look Toji gives you watching you snuggle into his uniform jacket.
Ryota
You don’t start regretting leaving your dorm room without an umbrella until you’re halfway to your meeting point with Ryota, where what was once a short drizzle becomes a full on downpour. You’re fortunate enough that it doesn’t last long, but by the time it finally lets up you already feel soggy and cold and ready to head right back, and you probably would if you hadn’t promised to meet up at the new dessert shop in town to try out as many prime baked goods as the two of you could carry. Plus it was his treat - and no amount of rain was going to stop you from being treated to free desserts! When you finally arrive at the meeting place you spot Ryota before he spots you, shaking off the last of the rain from his umbrella before he closes it up and you don’t think twice about approaching him.
When you greet him you watch as his expression lights up and he spins around to greet you, however whatever greeting he may have had for you instead comes out as a gasp and flustered rambling when he gets a good look at you. You’re confused, head tilted and hands on your hips as you try to make out what he’s saying, catching ‘shirt’ and ‘rain’ before you finally take a proper look at your state after running through a downpour. Your shirt took the brunt of the rainfall, the white fabric not faring well against the water and clinging to your skin, and while you don’t really care that it’s see through the fact you don’t have a dry pair on hand sucks. Frowning you pull at the fabric and grimace at the noise it makes as it unsticks from your skin, suddenly wishing that you’d really thought ahead and brought an umbrella.
You don’t think Ryota’s face can get much redder until you contemplate if it’s better to just take the shirt off, and he jumps in to stop you before you can actually pull it off to ask if you’d just like to borrow his school jacket instead. He worries that the cold weather mixed with your soaked clothes is going to lead to you catching a cold so he feels a lot better about giving it to you than to just stand around for who knows how long. That and he gets super flustered at the sight of your physique beneath your shirt - not that it’s bad or anything! If anything you look amazing! He can see how much work you’ve put into training because of how the shirt clings to your muscles, and your body shape is more pronounced like this and it honestly looks rather appealing. But that train of thought just leaves Ryota blushing even more and even more insistent that you take his coat so you don’t get cold, which you do after making him promise that you guys can still head in and grab some dessert before you have to worry about getting changed.
Kengo
It was an honest accident but Kengo’s 100% convinced that it's your fault. It isn’t uncommon for the Summoner’s to pull pranks on each other - hell you guys still liked having fun like any other students, and knowing each other’s weaknesses like you guys do means one of you always has the advantage when a prank war starts up. You’d roped Kengo into helping you balance a water bucket on top of the statehouse door, needing his help to give you the leverage to balance it so that it would fall as soon as the door opened. This was all in the name of revenge for some prank Hanuman has pulled on you last week, you didn’t go into details but hell if you need some help to get back at him Kengo’s totally game for it!
Sitting on Kengo’s shoulders you’d began inching the bucket against the rim of the doorframe, constantly testing to make sure that it wouldn’t fall if you were to let go the whole time - you were taking your sweet time, ignoring the hushed whispers to hurry up before. This had to be perfect. If Hanuman caught sight of it any time before it hit, you knew your prank would have been for nothing - you’d been putting thought into it for a while and you’d be damned if this wasn’t planned down to the T. Eventually you finished up, coaxing Kengo to take a step back so that you can admire your handiwork before waiting for the chaos to unfold...
But then the door slams open, smacking Kengo in the face and sending you falling ass over tit off of his shoulders and onto the floor. The force makes the bucket teeter, and for only a second you’re hopeful that it will fall away from you; but the clatter it makes as it proceeds to dumb it’s entire contents onto your head is quick to dash any of those hopes and you screech at the cold water that covers both you and the floor surrounding you. Groaning in disappointment you vaguely register the frenzied apologies of Ryota who was the one who opened the door but you’re more upset about being doused in water. Kengo’s still nursing the hit to his face when he hears you complaining about how the water’s soaked your clothes and doesn’t think anything of telling you to just take em off if they’re that wrecked until he turns back around and sees that you’ve taken his advice and tugged off your shirt to start trying to soak up the mess before Agyo spots it. It’s not like he hasn’t seen your muscles before, however that’s been during training and fights so he hasn’t actually gone out of his way to look at your physique. Seeing how you look now though Kengo can’t help but stare, watching as you huff and flop back on the floor in defeat. The moment’s only broken by Agyo’s distressed scream when he sees the state your ‘prank’ has left the poor safehouse in, the lion dog storming over to give the two of you an earful for making such a mess.
Shiro
Setting up weekly meetings at the safehouse had become part of the routine for the Summoners - it was a safe place where you could all meet up and not have to worry about app battles and focus on making plans, finishing schoolwork or just hanging out. Shiro’s always the first one to show up, being the one who usually calls for these meetings in the first place he enjoys the few moments of peace on his own before the other members begin filtering in after school hours. This time was no different, and after making sure everything was tidy enough he settled down in a chair with a book to pass the time. He’d gotten texts from Ryota and Hanuman that they’d be a bit late to the safehouse and of course Kengo just shows up without warning so there’s no word from him, so Shiro expected that he’d have a little more time to himself while he waited.
That is until the safehouse door slams open. He can already hear you cussing up a storm before you yell out to ask if anyone’s got some spare clothes; confused, Shiro gets out of his seat to see what’s happened right as you round the doorway and almost immediately he can feel a flush rising to his cheeks. You’ve already shucked off your shirt and shoes leaving them in a crumpled heap on the floor and you’re halfway through hopping out of your socks when you almost run into him, apologizing for the mess. Shiro hadn’t even realized it was raining outside but you’re soaked through, trekking puddles in your wake and looking absolutely miffed about the whole situation; however he’s more painfully aware of the fact that you’re now stripping off said wet clothes as you move further into the safehouse.
You’re just about to reach for the next item of clothing when Shiro’s brain kicks back into gear and he spins around to catch up with you, hurriedly explaining to wait until he gets you something to dry off before you resort to pulling everything off, successfully convincing you to take a seat next to the heater to warm yourself up while he rushes around trying to find something to deal with the water. He comes back with some that’d been kept stashed in the back for cleanup - they only cover your shoulders but they’re warm enough to do the job and you take them from him with a nod of thanks. You can’t help but notice that Shiro’s pink up to the tips of his ears as he does so, trying to hide the fact that he’s looking with a cough before he retreats back to his chair, and it’s honestly impossible not to chuckle when you catch his eye and he nearly drops his book with how fast he tries to hide his face in it.

The Sweetest Thing (1)
A/N: This exists because I know how to start new stories but not finish my current ones LOL Hope y’all enjoy! :)
M’Baku x OC
Word Count: 3,891
Warnings: None - just some good old, happy M’Baku fluff
The light chime of the front door tore Amara out of her deep meditation as she kneaded the soft dough on her counter to prepare a new batch of pastries. Her kitchen was her personal sanctuary and peace so her head always floated to the clouds once she got in the zone. She sighed in frustration, resigned to the fact that she would never actually finish any of her special orders while the shop was open.
"Be there in a sec," she called brightly, wiping her flour covered hands quickly on a towel nearby. The kitchen area of her quaint bakery did not allow for a clear view of the entrance or counter so she was unable to see which of her regulars stopped by, she knew basically everyone in Gorilla City.
Amara was exhausted, her family bakery was a two person shop. Just her and Eshe, her cousin and best friend who helped run the counter and manage orders. Unfortunately, Eshe came down with a bug over the weekend, leaving Amara to handle the baking and management alone.
Despite her shop being small, it was one of the most popular bakeries in Jabariland, the most popular in Gorilla City. Amara inherited it from her mother, who created every recipe and taught Amara each one. Amara took pride in every pastry, cake, or piece of bread she created. Her mother taught her the importance of pouring passion and love into every dessert she made, which quickly made her shop a tribe staple.
She emerged from the back, staring down at her hands as she tried to wipe more of the flour off, saying, "I am so sorry for the wait. What can I do for you t-today?" her voice trailing off in surprise as she came face to face with the Wakandan Royal Family… or at least, a portion of them. Her eyes widened as her eyes went from Princess Shuri to King T'Challa to Prince Erik? No, Killmonger. No? N’Jadaka? Um, well, Amara didn't quite know what the usurper-turned-forgiven-royal's title was these days.
Annnnnd this is why we never associated with lowlanders before, she thought to herself.
And they were accompanied by Chief M'Baku and his little sister. "O-oh Hanuman," she whispered under her breath. "Um, King T'Challa, Princess Shuri, Prince Erik... Lord M'Baku, Lady Malaika," she said politely, greeting the row of Royals standing patiently on the other side of her long pastry display case. She offered them a tentative Wakandan salute, as was proper when addressing the Royal Family. Amara was usually far more confident than this but she had not expected for damn near every royal in Wakanda to stumble into her shop the one week she was drowning.
It did not help that she knew she did not look appropriate enough to be in front of any of them. Her old tattered and stained black apron, the flour dusting her black clothes and caked on her face. She hadn’t bothered to do much with her long curly hair that morning, pulling it into a mess top puff that took five seconds. She had only gotten a couple glimpses of herself since starting to bake early that morning, trying to keep up with the increase of orders in preparation for the holiday on Friday. But even in passing glances, she knew she did not look well enough for a visit from the Royal Family or the Chief.
"These look amazing," Shuri moaned, her eyes examining all the beautiful pastries and cakes just behind the glass. "Can I have one of everything?"
"Absolutely not. Mama would murder me in my sleep. Pick a couple of things, Shuri and one thing to bring to her."
"Fine, you bore. He hates me," she whispered in Amara's direction though she was still loud enough for her brother to hear. Her lips curled into a smile but she stifled the rising laughter, unsure if she should actually laugh at the King's expense. "What is your most popular thing?" she asked, directing her attention back to Amara who was still stuck and shocked to find them all in her small bakery. Amara blinked a few times, taking a moment to officially catch her stride after being thrown off course.
"Um, the mandazis are delicious, those usually sell pretty quickly," she started to list, sliding back into her usual confident self as she pointed at a display of golden brown puff pastries coated in powdered sugar. "The cookies are really popular,” she pointed at a dish of gorilla-shaped cookies. “The lime cake is pretty popular and of course, the universal staples are tribe favorites," her nails tapped the intricate glass cake stand that held a tall 4 layer chocolate cake.
This interaction went on for a few more minutes as Shuri asked about every pastry available.
"My apologies Lord M'Baku and Miss?" T'Challa examined her expectantly with a soft smile.
"O-oh Amara, your highness. Just Amara.” She straightened up instinctively, a more serious look on her face as she addressed the King. She had never actually seen him in person before. She, of course, heard about the incident that brought his almost-dead body to Jabariland months prior but she was far removed from the issues of royalty. Having only stories and gossip to inform her about him, she noted that one thing was clearly true: he was quite handsome.
"Yes. Amara. My apologies. Lord M'Baku was gracious enough to take us on a tour of the shops and markets and my sister here... has a persistent sweet tooth. She can sniff out a bakery from miles away," T'Challa explained as he watched Shuri patiently. His words signaled slight annoyance at his sister's antics but none of that showed in his face, just the love of an older sibling.
"She greedy... that's the problem," Erik mumbled, loud enough for all to hear. His American accent was jarring to Amara, who had never heard one outside of movies and television shows. His snide remarks earned him some eye rolls from the rest of the group. Amara was surprised at his sense of humor, expecting the man who tried to murder the king to be more uptight. He was relaxed, perched in one of the chairs at a high table, casually scrolling on what looked like a small tablet.
"It is no trouble at all. We are all happy to have you all in Jabariland," Amara responded politely as she boxed up Shuri's choices and placed them in a bag.
"What is your role in the tribe? Your family?" the King asked, as he looked around the bakery walls, which were covered in family photos.
"O-oh my father is a woodsmith, my king. He owns a shop a bit further into the market."
"Not just any woodsmith, the tribe's best,” Malaika interjected. “D'Kar makes and carves most of our knobkerries. He carved brother's and mine. Brother, we should take them by there to meet him,” Malaika grinned at Amara’s surprised expression, “I am in training with your younger sister, Neema. She is quite nice, I fought her today. She is very good, I enjoy spending time with her at the training center."
"Ah of course, Yes. She speaks highly of you as well," Amara responded with a smile. Malaika and Neema were quite a lot alike. She could see a world in which they would be best friends, if her sister was not such an introverted girl. Unlike her older sister, who was the social butterfly when she was in training and school, Neema struggled to make friends. It seemed to bother Amara more than Neema who quite enjoyed being alone.
"Brother, can I get one?" Malaika asked sweetly, looking up at the stoic giant who had yet to utter a word or crack a smile since walking in.
"One," he whispered in his deep baritone. She honestly forgot the chief was even in the room, as he stood quietly in the back. She offered him a smile as their eyes met, it was not returned. But that was not surprising. While M’Baku was a respected and good leader, he was not known for his kindness. She continued to feel his eyes on her as she turned to prepare his sister’s slice of cake. Despite being a Jabari, she only ever saw M'Baku from a distance or at official events. She was a few years younger than him so they missed each other in training and school.
Silence fell over the group as she started to box up her sister's cake. She almost felt exposed, like there were lasers on her as she worked. But  she would soon realize why.
"Damn, nigga. Can you stare at her any harder?" Amara thanked Bast that her face was turned away from them so they could not see the way it twisted in embarrassment. She could hear Shuri and T’Challa’s quiet reprimands, though they were clearly trying to whisper. She pulled her face back into a smile and turned around, catching the tail end of a deathly glare between M’Baku and Erik. She busied herself by handing Malaika her box.
"How much?" M'Baku muttered. Amara couldn’t tell but it almost seemed like he was embarrassed, the way he now actively avoided looking at her directly.
"No need," she waved him away. "It is merely an honor to have you all here. Princess Shuri, if you are back in Jabariland, perhaps you will let me know what you thought?"
Shuri looked up, her mouth coated in sugar and pushed out, "I definitely will be back! These are better than any bakery in the city. Do you deliver?”
Amara's smile could have lit the mountains as she got high praise from a new customer. She was used to hearing nice things from her regulars in the tribe. She rarely got a new customer anymore since there were never new people, except children, in Jabariland. It just reaffirmed her craft and abilities to hear it from someone new.. "No, not yet, unfortunately. Sorry,” she offered, laughing lightly at the despondent expression on her face.
“Let us go, Shuri. We have taken up more than enough of M’Baku and Malaika’s time. Thank you again, Miss Amara,” King T’Challa’s arms raised in a salute, which she mimicked with ease.
“You all have a great rest of your tour." She smiled as they filed out of the door, M'Baku holding it open. However, he did not exit after Erik, instead he turned to face her again.
"You said your name was Amara?" he asked, his body stradling the threshold of the door.
"Yes, Chief M’Baku."
He nodded softly with a small smile on his lips, before saying, "Good to know."
Amara stared at the door as it slid shut, as confused as ever. What in Hanuman’s name just happened?
****
“Baba!” Amara yelled as she let herself into her father’s cottage. “Neema?” She slid off her snow-covered boots and jacket before heading directly to the family kitchen. Despite her mother being gone for over five years, her father had not changed one thing. The house looked exactly the same, a time capsule from when her mother was living and taking care of everything. She was surprised at her father’s ability to keep the place this pristine, especially with his long work hours. But she knew he did it partially to honor her mother, who was strict about keeping things a certain way. She placed the fresh loaves of bread on the counter and meandered back to her father’s workshop. She inhaled the savory smells of fresh vegetable soup on the stove, made by her sister, she knew. Her father could maintain a house but he was a lousy cook.
Despite being home from work, it was not a shocker to find D’Kar still in his home workshop carving after hours. He would carve nonstop if his aging hands allowed it. This older age did limit how long he could carve but it did not diminish the quality. Only he and few other men in the tribe had his level of skill with Jabari wood, skill that took many years to practice.
“Baba,” she called softly, a smile on her face as she leaned against the door frame and watched him work.
“My girl!” He finished the last Jabari symbol on a walking staff before standing to wrap his eldest daughter in a tight hug. “How was your day?” He studied her closely, noting the exhaustion on her face. D’Kar was proud of his daughter but he felt she worked too much, worked too hard for someone her age.
“Busy, Eshe is out sick so I am pulling double duty for the next couple days,” she waved away his concerns before sitting on a stool across from him so he could continue working.
“Ah, I am sure the day was made all the more busy with a visit from the Chief and the Royal Family.”
“They came by your shop too?” she asked.
“Yep! The young one, Shuri? She mentioned that they had stopped at your bakery. Couldn’t stop talking about it. Asked me to convince you to pack up and open up shop in the Golden City.”
Amara laughed, “And leave Jabariland? Leave you?” she asked, sitting down on one of the stools across from him. “I could never, baba.”
D’Kar halted his carving for a moment, looking up from the walking staff to his daughter. “The Golden City wouldn’t be so bad. Now with the tribes reunited, maybe a change of scenery would be good for you, eh?”
“Good for me?” Amara’s nose wrinkled up in confusion. “Where is this coming from? You hate the lowlanders?”
“Yes, I do. But that does not mean you have to. You are young, Amara. Shouldn’t waste your years taking care of your sister and I. You should be living your life, having fun. It is what I want for you, what Neema wants for you… what she would want for you too.”
Amara turned her head away from her father, the back of her eyes stinging lightly at the mention of her mother. Her death… her absence was still a sore subject in this house. “I-I’m gonna check on Neema, yes? Things will calm down next week and I-I can cook a few nights a week again so Neema isn’t doing everything. I’ll swing back by before I leave. I put some fresh loaves on the counter by the way.” She slid off the high stool and exited her father’s workshop quickly, barely looking at him as she went. She shook her head, as if that would rid it of all the negative thoughts swirling around, and headed upstairs to her sister’s bed room.
Her sister’s long braids covered her face as she jotted down something in a small notebook. Amara watched Neema write with intensity. For her, writing was like baking, it took her to another world.
Amara flopped down on her sister’s bed, earning her attention and an annoyed look. “How is the world’s greatest future author doing?” She inquired as she stretched out across the bed.
“She is tired and trying to finish this with no distractions,” Neema responded, tapping her pen against her sister’s forehead gently. Amara’s eyes scrunched up as she laughed.
“Fine, fine.” She pushed herself to a seated position and moved to the edge of the bed. “It is late anyway so I am not staying long. Just told baba I would check in on you. How was training?”
“Painful as usual… fought against Lady Malaika today. She is good, left a few bruises. But we both won once so we got high marks.” She lifted her light sweatshirt to show a darkening bruise along her side. Amara whistled, she certainly did not miss her training days.
“That is going to be worse tomorrow. You need to put ice on it. Also, why don’t you hang out with Lady Malaika? She seems nice, spoke very highly of you.” She poked her clearly annoyed sister in her unbruised side as she spoke.
“When did you talk to her?” she questioned, her voice filled with speculation and a hint of anxiety, that also showed through her fidgeting with the corner of her notebook paper.
“She came into the shop with the Royals and her brother. She said you were nice and she liked training with you. She is a sweetheart…. You should hang out with her, she seems like she could be a new friend if you just put yourself out there.” Amara stood up and started to walk toward the door.
“We all can’t be you, Amara.”
“No, you can be better.” She winked before turning to head out the door and back to her own home for the night. “Ice your side and start a damn fire in here, I mean for Hanuman’s sake.. It is freezing in here and getting sick will not get you out of training.” Amara ducked as a pillow came wheezing toward her head. “Night Neema.” The two childishly stuck their tongues out at each other before she bounded down the stairs to say goodnight to her baba and head home.
*****
High up on Gorilla Mountain, another Jabari was fulfilling his big brother duties, training with his sister before bed.
“Harder Malaika! What is up with you today?” M’Baku demanded, straightening his strong and long legs out of his battle stance to address his sister, who looked like she was moments away from the Ancestral Cliffs.
“Sorry, brother. You know that woman at the bakery? I fought her sister today. She fought almost as hard as you do. I actually lost a battle to her,” she said, tone as if she still couldn’t believe it even hours later. “She is really nice, off the training mats, at least. Can we just call it a night? I am tired.” She quickly turned on her puppy dog eyes, the one thing she knew her overprotective brother simply could not say no to.
He rolled his eyes, “You know you cannot stop fighting in battle simply because something hurts eh? You fight until there is nothing left in you.”
“Is there a war coming tomorrow that I don’t know about??” she asked sarcastically, looking from left to right as if an entire army was going to swarm the Lodge’s training center. “I think I will be ok if I cut one training session short, Lord Tyrant.”
M’Baku rolled his eyes at her, deciding to just let it go and let her get some rest. Despite having guards whose sole purpose was to escort his rambunctious sister around Jabariland, he always walked her back from their nightly training sessions. It was their only time to bond with no distractions.
“That baker from today? You liked her?” Malaika asked quietly as they walked, their guards, or shadows as she called them, quietly trailing behind them.
M’Baku’s barking laugh filled the quiet dark halls of the Lodge, “Like her? I hardly spoke to her. I don’t even remember her name.”
A mischievous smile crossed his sister’s face. Oh this is going to be fun. “Well, that is true. She was quite nice though. And Anika is a beautiful name.”
“It was Amara,” he corrected her immediately, already forgetting the lie he told 5 seconds prior. Maliaka immediately burst into laughter. M’Baku could also hear a few snickers behind him as their guards overheard their conversation. One pointed glare and those laughs ended abruptly.
“You are such a bad liar. You like her, just admit it. You thought she was pretty.”
“Eh and what of it?”
“For a chief, you are pretty stupid sometimes, you know that right? Maybe they should make me chief? I am clearly the brains behind this operation. Ask her out. Court her. She is gorgeous, accomplished, her family is well-respected in the city. She is perfect for you.”
M’Baku shook his head. His sister raised some good points, as she always did, even if they were marred with insults. He hadn’t stopped thinking about her since they left that bakery. He had plans to go back there tomorrow just to see her again, but he would never tell Malaika that. “I do not have time to date. I only have room for one lady in my life these days.” His elbow nudged her gently as they rounded the corner and stopped in front of her room.
Malaika rolled her eyes as she opened the door to her private chambers. She leaned against the frame as she looked at her brother, the man who gave up most of his young adult years to be chief and take care of her. Her joking tone melted away as the feelings of guilt seeped in. She tried to shake it off, the guilt of being a burden that she felt… well always. “Well, this lady thinks you have more than enough time for a girlfriend. The Council is trying to push any woman with a pulse into your arms. Might as well try with someone you actually like. I am just saying,” she threw her hands up in surrender, “There is more than enough room for two ladies in this palace. Goodnight, brother.” The two hugged before she retreated into her room and raced over to her side table.
She pulled out a couple pieces of paper and jotted down two quick letters. Malaika read over them quickly before nodding in satisfaction.
“Jahari!” she called, her shadow immediately poking his head into her room.
“My lady?”
“I need a big favor,” she said sweetly, turning on her youthful charm to get the guard to break a few protocol rules for her. “Can you deliver these to the night guards and see to it that they were delivered by the morning?”
Jahari sighed, “My lady, you know I am not allowed to leave your door until morning. This cannot wait?”
“The future of Jabariland… the life of your chief is at stake. Surely that outweighs any silly rules my overprotective brother gave right?” At Jahari’s raised eyebrow, she tried a new tactic. “Look, if anyone sees you gone and gives you a hard time, I will just tell them I felt ill and you went to fetch me medicine. How about that? Please, please please please pleaseeeeee?” she begged.
“Fine, fine. But if I lose my head, I will be forced to haunt you,” he warned. “Can I ask you why these are so important?”
“One is for Femi, the Lodge event planner and the second is for my dressmaker. Just need some last minute things before the Winter Festival Ball on Saturday.”
Jahari snorted, “Yea right. Whatever mischief you are planning, I want to be as far away from it as possible.”
Malaika laughed, “Oh I think everyone around here will enjoy this bout of mischief. Trust me.”
“Lock the door behind me and do not open it for anyone. I will knock three times to let you know when I return. Deal?” Jahari was not a rule breaker but Maliaka reminded him so much of his own sister so he gave her as much leeway as he could.
“Thank you!” she followed him to the door, immediately locking it behind him. She slumped against it, a content smile on her face. Let the fun begin.

Thoughts on Raavan(an) the movie? I'm considering watching it but I'm given pause by some of its characterizations.
Caveat #1: Warning for implied rape, suicide, and fridging of one of the only two named female characters--that’s not in the Ramayana.
Caveat #2: If you’re going to watch either, I would recommend Raavanan. Vikram’s take is much better, IMO, than Abhishek Bachchan’s. But my thoughts follow, with vague spoilers--but. I mean. It’s the Ramayana, the basic plot is not a surprise.
On the plus side, it has an amazing soundtrack and gorgeous cinematography (really. It will make you gasp out loud, just from how beautiful some of the shots are.) Also, Aish’s take on Sita is great, both in terms of script and performance--though the dubbing is a little questionable at times, and annoyingly shrill at others. But for the most part, this Sita is defiant to the end, capable of kindness and fury alike, and willing to throw herself off a cliff rather than become anyone’s pawn. It’s one of the few takes I’ve seen that emphasize her unconventional nature, and her rage, rather than the usual saintly patience, and I really appreciated that.
Um. But. Conversely, I hated the characterization of both leads. To start off with, even though Veera/Ravana is supposed to be sympathetic, even in Valmiki’s original, the movie’s take on it is for all the wrong reasons. That is: Ravana is artistic and scholarly, and the Sundara Kand emphasizes that his other wives/lovers are at least kept well and live happily. The whole point of the Ramayana is that it’s punching up--Ravana’s a wealthy king, while Rama’s...an exiled prince. Sita’s choice to stick with Rama is --in-world--absolutely bonkers, and any sane woman should (and has, if we can trust the Sundara Kand) leave her old life behind to be Queen of Lanka. And even ignoring that, Ravana’s a competent king and able warrior/general.
....
Raavanan’s Veera runs around talking to himself and making chicken noises.
Seriously, though, making him a bandit and Rama the Establishment (aka a police officer) makes an interesting and well-needed point about police brutality and corruption--but it absolutely misses the power dynamics of the actual Ramayana, which really bothers me. Also Veera’s rants and chicken noises go on, and on, and on for scene after dull scene. Moments that should be tense made me laugh out loud instead.
But even worse than that--Dev/Rama is just horrible. Also a patriarchal, psychotic monster-in-man’s form (but then again, so is Veera), but worse than that--manipulative in a way that Valmiki’s Rama never is. Let’s note that Valmiki’s Rama has one big moment of deception/cunning and it’s....hiding in a tree to kill Vali. The Agni-pariksha twist is one big “Rama would NEVER” moment, not even necessarily because of a lack of sexism, but because it’s just plain OOC. Valmiki’s Rama tries to make peace and offers to accept surrender/Sita’s return pretty much up until the last minute; Dev uses his cigarette to burn through outlaws’ faces in a photograph.
(I’d mention that it’s not just Rama: this version’s Lakshmana is explicitly a rapist and a creep. Lakshmana! I’ll give you a second to be aghast along with me.)
And I mean, I’m not faulting anyone for misandry (every dude in this movie sucks. Every. One. Except Not! Hanuman, but he is basically just drunk and useless.), but the ending shot, while beautiful, leaves me with a sense of--hopelessness. Ragini/Sita is the only worthwhile character in the entire film, and the film ends with her utterly broken and traumatized; to make things worse, she’s our perspective character, and so her despair bleeds into my own. If this was just a completely original story, actually, I think I wouldn’t mind it at all--it’s a fitting end to the story. But the fact that it’s explicitly a Ramayana retelling, and so carries the baggage of implicitly conveying a more universal truth, makes it worse.)
There are some who like grimdark takes, and goodness knows multiple epics/stories could certainly do with takes that explore and confront the bigotry associated with them over the years. By all means, the failures and mistakes done by the “good guys” need to be called out, and likewise, villains ought to be interesting and understandable even if not sympathetic (it’s destroying the old St Hero vs Evil McVillain cliche I complain about often! I approve). But my favored approach to this is that instead of dragging everyone down to depravity (by making the heroes commit atrocities that they don’t even do in the original), change the stories/adjust the heroes so that they’re better. Give me something to believe in, to hope for, because the alternative just leaves me, like Raavanan’s Raagini, sitting on a mountain cliff, caught between two opposing monsters and wondering “What now?”

“A memory that remained” Housamo fanfiction Scenario - Ophion.
Tokyo After-school summoners. Fanfiction/scenario. "A memory that remained"
PREFACE - This Fanfiction is my personal love letter to the creators of the TAS game, their imagination and fantastic story telling. Especially to Ophion who is a amazing husband character and i thought his storytelling could use a bit more.
** That bizarre adventure was finally over with things seemingly back to normal. Both you and Seth laughed when you saw each other again this day, especially since you thought you may not see one another ever again. Faith has some odd twists and turns. But now, you were glad, able to finally relax. As much it was possible of course in the summer resort when you were surrounded by a gang of over-hyper friends chasing around the swimming pools, jumping into the water and causing general havoc. "Come on! If you don't get in the pool I'm going to bash you till you do!" Kengo yells impatiently from the water area but his words get blurred out by water sprays coming from Hanuman's water gun. Seth laughed in the background after seeing the scene, he and Shiro oddly found a common language together. Ganglie and Ryota snuck away to replenish the food supplies, and Toji and Moritaka were hiding in the shade debating something formally, perhaps it was sword fighting or training? Or just generally plotting revenge on Kengo for throwing both of them into the pool. Closing your eyes, sitting comfortably on the lounger you only want to drift away. The muscles still felt bruised and tired, although there is no physical sign of the experience you went through, the mind still thinks all the signs are there. Also, there are things you are still slowly processing. Especially one thing. There was a memory that kept creeping on you, almost every time you closed your eyes. It was hard to describe to be honest because memories have images and this one felt so distorted, it was a mix of colours, images, conversation and laugh, and most importantly music and a feeling. The last two things started following you in a pair, always. There is a melody you remember and a longing. Having been told multiple times that your rule has permanently cut you off from memories of your many lives past you have eventually accepted the fact that whatever the past was, it will have to stay in the past. Except for this one broken memory which felt like it was coming from a badly adjusted radio.
A sudden squirt of cold water pulled you sharply out of the depth of your mind. So sharply your whole body jerked up in surprise. “Undercover ninja attack!” Hanuman flashed his teeth from the edge of the pool waving his water gun at you. “Sleepy face gets a direct hit from the super water blaster 1000!” Kengo cheers with him jumping out of the pool heading in your direction fast.
“Sorry partner but you asked for it! I warned you” He grins rubbing his hands ready to grab your legs, but you are faster than him and swiftly turn around jumping off the lounger before he even tries, unexpectedly Kengo slips on a puddle of water created by Hanuman’s gun as he tried to outmanoeuvre you and ends up flat on the lounger waving his arms in panic. You can’t stop but laugh together with everyone else who was observing the scene. Kengo immediately tries to retaliate with a face red like a boiled lobster and chase you but he doesn’t have the stamina you have. Time and time again he tries grabbing you but with a swift zigzag, you outsmart him every time, having the rest of the gang cheer loudly with each of your successful escapes.
“Not fair partner! I’m barefoot!” Kengo huffs loudly.
“Like that stopped you before!” You shout in the air trying not to lose your path, still just to make sure you were far away, for only a split second you turned your head to see Kengo a meter behind, and he suddenly stopped with a surprised face and then – thump! Without knowing you run into something or someone solid feeling the air escapes your lungs as you sat down in shock.
Before you was Xolot standing still firm like a tree, unmoved. He looked down at you with an awkward, slightly fearful smile.
“Oh hi!” Then his expression changed as he realized what just happened. “Sorry! Sorry! It’s my fault I didn’t see you! Mistress Hakumen told me to find you and your friends I didn’t see you run. Are you ok? Sorry!” As you thought that nothing can beat the avalanche of his apologies a high pitched laugh pierced the air and immediately you closed your eyes in a grimace knowing Mistress Hakumen was incoming. Brace yourself you thought.
“Ohohoho! My darling Lucifuge why do you always assume I am up to no good? That’s so presumptuous of you! I’m but a flower pulled by the winds of never-ending emotion!”
“My dearest. You are a jelly fisher. One can have a conversation with you that seems all nice and friendly and sweet, then you suddenly feel like you've been stung with deadly poison, or end up locked in a prison, or even worse; without knowing what happened.” Lucifuge nervously giggled.
As you tried to sneak away back to your group Xolot extremely over-enthusiastically and loudly shouted: “Mistress Hakumen I have found him! You will be so happy I found him, Mistress! Yes!”
You felt as you were betrayed on the spot and couldn’t but grin covering your ears.
“Thanks for blowing my cover.”
“Oh sorry! Were you hiding? I’m so sorry! Please forgive me!” But, you couldn’t be angry at Xolot since he was always more than loyal to his mistress, even if it was in a very misguided and not very smart way. And so you braced hoping not to, again, become the object of their fights, and love arguments of these two.
“Milord! There you are! Oh!” Hakumen sang with her flirtatious voice toward you trying to hide behind Xolot, only for him to be shoved aside by her. “Move you idiot!” her songbird voice turned into a snarl. She still kept her flashy swimsuit on.
“I’m sorry! Mistress!” Xolot yelped putting down his ears.
Uhhh here we go, you think to yourself forcing a polite smile as they surround you from both sides.
“My fallen star! Don’t you just find it exhilarating here? My dearest remember, nothing succeeds like excess, well of everything! Maybe with one exception” Lucifuge glanced at Hakumen. You wondered how he wasn’t feeling hot in his flamboyant clothes where everyone else was practically half-naked.
Hakumen snarled slightly in response. “What does that supposed to mean Lucifuge, you half-jelly devil! I have not spared any excess to make this place perfect for my beloved Milord! Don’t you think my bellowed? I know it is so because you enjoyed it so far! Ah, the adventure we prepared for you! And the excitement you had! Ohohoho! There will be more!” She flutters her eyes to you.
“It’s fascinating my bellowed fallen star how Mistress Hakumen can turn any offence into a half baked compliment.”
“It wasn’t?”
“I must have said it wrong.”
“Maybe you should try it too Lucifuge. It would save us so many awkward situations when you behave like you swallowed a toad. Some aristocrat you are.”
Lucifuge looked genuinely hurt and shocked. “Mistress Hakumen, is this your new tactic now? Slander me in front of my divine lord! The beautiful star I wish to capture?! How low of you!”
You can feel like their argument and bickering is getting more intensive every second, completely ignoring your existence which oddly is a relief although you still didn’t even manage to say hello to anyone.
“I would never! Not in front of my beloved milord! For him, I’m a precious flower and I-”
She gets interrupted by the very familiar beaming voice that towers everything and everyone.
“I do hope I am interrupting something! What are you two arguing about now? Isn’t there enough scheming and plotting you caused recently?” Ophion towers above the pair, behind him Aizen marches with his ever-odd military precision and an angry look. You are sure he is judging every square inch of the summer resort and thinking of ways of purifying it from the filth.
Then Ophion saw you and skillfully moved himself in front of the arguing couple.
“My bellowed flower, my world, I heard what this vixen has done. Are you Alright? I should have known she cannot be left without a proper supervisor, as this may end up in another unplanned adventure as she calls them only to vow you into her claws.”
“That’s outrageous!” Hakumen squealed behind him but Ophion stopped her with his arm.
“Silence! Is it not another of your plans? Whenever my spouse is involved you always have a scheme ready. You twisted fox, you have schemes within schemes within schemes!”
“No need for such excessive complaints my dear! My beloved milord already knows his mistress is a genius among her peers!”. Now all three began arguing. It was fun to watch initially but it always becomes tiresome after a while. Especially with Aizen giving you murderous looks.
But the fact was, the moment Ophion showed himself you felt something change. It was that scrambled memory that keeps haunting you. Unsurely if it was the memory or yourself, or both your attitude changed towards Ophion. Yes, he was too much, but what can be expected of millennia-old god dragon that created life – or so he claims. And although it was extremely embarrassing for you to hear him proclaim his love to you every single time so loudly everyone within half a mile could hear, it was also cute. But, was it you or this memory. You couldn’t hear the music anymore, but there was something you decided to do during those nights you spent on the desert with Seth, Hanuman and Ganglie. You decided to gift that one memory to him.
Now only if you could get their attention.
“Hey everyone -!” But they were too occupied in arguing. Well, since nobody is paying attention, you though there is only one way. Next to where you were standing, on one of the loungers, there was a water gun, one of many that were left around the pool for the enjoyment of the guests. So you thought – Let’s see how they like a cold shower.
Their expression was priceless when you squired water around. The bickering stopped immediately and everyone looked just at you!
“Now since everyone is back to planet earth.”
“My dearest milord how could you!” Hakumen cried in shock.
“How undignified! I need a change of clothes!” Lucifuge complained. But Ophion didn’t say anything only piercing you with a highly amused look, you flashed his teeth to him winking innocently.
“How dare you! Have you no brain! Look what have you done to Sir Ophion’s clothes!” Aizen suddenly roared.
“Aizen, you need to stop this!” Ophion waved his hand annoyed at the man.
“Well, if the only way for You to stop arguing about nonsense was me squirting all over you then, I’ll gladly do it again!” You grin at the trio.
“Ohoho the wordplay! My darling milord, you make me blush! Ohohohoh I want to hear more! Please don’t stop!”
“Lady Hakumen, must you want him only for yourself all the time! Such lack of dignity eh!” Lucifuge complained loudly, messing about with his wet shirt. “No, no, no this will not do! I cannot be seen in such an imperfect, undignified outfit” He mumbled to himself and turned on a heel and walked away ignoring everyone.
“My darling spouse is absolutely right. How shameful of us, concentrating on tiny squabbles. Please forgive me, my beloved. “ Ophion steps in front of them closer to you, only to have Hakumen overtake his position pushing him away with her elbow.
“Hmpf! Speak for yourself lizard! There is nothing tiny about us!” She envelopes the curves of her body with her hands. “Mistress Hakumen is all about beauty and grandeur! We go big or not at all! We love or we fall! My milord must know this! He needs to know at all cost how I love him!” You could feel your face getting hot from embarrassment as Hakumen was performing her little dance around you, touching your shoulders and hips in an unwanted way.
“Ha! Pick your words and actions carefully fox-woman! You shall not touch what is not yours!” Ophion’s voice roars in the air.
“Lady Hakumen! Have you no shame! I shall not tolerate frivolous behaviour like this polluting our guests! Especially with this one!” Aizen adds after Ophion glaring at her with fire in his eyes.
With a heavy sight, you can see them start again.
“Lady Hakumen, Xolot mentioned you were looking for me?” The security therion moved his ears and grinned happily as he heard you mention his name.
“Oh, oh! Indeed my beloved milord! How could I get my mind clouded so much by this stupid debate!” Hakumen put on another singing performance. “We, wish in our grace, to invite you to an evening concerto today evening. Of course, you are welcome to bring your friends with you. Just make sure milord they like such events. We only want to make you happy! It won’t be your typical music show, however, ohohoho! Oh no, no, no! There will be a live performance and all guests will receive pillows and drinks or food for their leisure! It will be performed here in the resort and it will be marvellous!”
It sounded fantastic to you since, at least you think, you enjoyed music, saying you think only because with the lack of memories it’s hard to know if you ever heard a live concert. But always enjoyed listening to different radio stations whenever given the chance and craved the occasion to listen it live.
“I would love to!” You say eagerly without hesitation.
“You would, my beloved spouse?” Ophion jumps into the conversation.
“Yes, I never listened to the music being performed live. Or at least I don’t think I did.”
“Ohohohoho! Milord, you please me gratefully! Oh, so many preparations need to be made before tonight! Now my darling run along and let your friends know and leave everything in my hands!”
“My darling spouse, my beloved jewel of the skies, if you are attending so shall I! I will reserve us the best spot and the most luxurious of seating for your comfort!” Ophion shakes in excitement. “I, your husband, delight in well-played instruments!”.
“Not in a million years!” Hakumen snarls. “I won’t let you steal and hurdle him only for yourself!”
Aizen who kept quiet jumps straight into the conversation. “Ophion, sir! I beg you to rethink! This is absurd. You cannot waste your precious, glorious time on such idiotic whims!”
“Nonsense!”Ophion shrugs Aizen’s words away. “I have but all of the eternal time for whims that will please my beloved spouse!”
“Ophion… could I- Could I talk to you for a second? Please?” And so you said it loudly for the first time, unsure if it was best left alone, but you can’t just let it drill a hole in your brain.
“Absolutely not! You shall not pollute my lord's mind with your absurd ideas!” Aizen roared angrily pulling his whip. You were sure that one day the blood vessels in his eyes will rapture spectacularly.
“Silence!” Ophion snapped at Aizen that immediately shrunk within himself in fear. Then looked directly at you with an intense stare, so intense it could only rival the one you remember from when you first saw his younger incarnation that recognized the piece of the soul of his wife within you. “My dearest, my beloved, I am all yours! Please tell me what it is!”
“Uhmm..” You suddenly lost your courage having everyone, especially Ophion look directly at you. It was definitely harder than all of the scenarios you run in your mind before, and even harder when you had to ignore Lady Hakumen scowls and angry grimaces of her theatrical sobs just now. “Can we talk somewhere in private?” After saying that you did expect Aizen to come out with another snotty comment but the last reprimand hit hard on his ego.
“Ha! All these moments I have waited for such a request! Oh, everything of this world! Your Ophion shall give you as much time as you want! Let us find ourselves a quiet place and talk my love!” The golden dragon leads you to a fairly empty bungalow just a few steps away from where you stood. You don’t even want to look back at Lady Hakumen, because her theatrics are just too much. Both her and Aizen are probably burning a hole in the back of your head right now.
“Look here my beloved, shall we step in and hide from the prying ears of the world.” The inside of the bungalow is quite narrow and you are surprised Ophion manages to go inside at all for his massive posture. He is after all much higher than any human, with his wings and long tail and massive physique. But without thinking you follow and close the door.
“Ah, my beloved! I cannot contain my happiness! Please tell me what burdens your heart and mind! My flower of the skies I want to know everything.” Ophion’s voice boomed so loudly you were absolutely sure anyone outside could hear him. And you were also sure the walls had ears, so without thinking you lifted a finger to your lips. The golden dragon looked at you curiously with a smile and a playful wink.
“Are you sure this room isn’t too small for you?” You then said in a low voice. He did look a bit uncomfortable. “It would have been better if You sat on the floor I think.”
“My dearest spouse, I do not care about such trivial problems! The closer I am to you the happier I am but I shall follow your request. The roof of this place is painful for my wings.” Ophion answered and slowly sat down. It felt as he was sitting in a dolls house. “Now, my dearest, please tell me, is everything alright.” But you heard a creak just outside and were sure somebody was listening. The last thing you needed.
“I think somebody is trying to listen so I’ll have to whisper to your ear if that’s OK.” You say casually to Ophion. The dragon turns his head curiously and looks around. But as you think how you can whisper to him you realize how big his stature is. “I’m sorry but I will have to climb on top of you!” You whisper again oblivious about what you just said.
“My dearest! Those words! I can’t believe this wonderful day!”
“That’s not what I mean – ah!” You try your best to reach to his ears, especially since Ophion doesn’t seem to want to help you and without realizing you place your hands on his bare arm. And then it shocks you.
“Ah!” There is a quiet gasp that leaves your mouth
"Is everything alright my darling? My jewel! Are my scales to tough for you?"
"No... No... You are very warm." You leave your hand on his arm and then another on his shoulder for a few seconds.
"I don't think I've ever touched you but it is like I know how it feels all along."
Ophion glances at you with his dark amber red eyes with intensity for a few moments.
"And how does it feel my darling spouse. Is this body of the godly dragon wonderful? Please give me, your beloved husband an answer, my jewel." When Ophion isn't screaming to the whole world his voice is surprisingly husky.
You hesitate not knowing what to say but you don't remove your hands just looking at him.
"There is something I'd like to give you. I have... I've been remembering something and I thought you should have it. As a gift." You whisper closely to his years. " And I don't want others to know because... Because I would like to keep it between us only."
You feel Ophion's hand on your back, you think he was trying to help you keep balance but... Well, this feels really embarrassing and your heart is pounding. This is definitely too much for one encounter, especially since nothing is going as you imagined it. This is harder than fighting. Why does it have to be harder than fighting?
"My beloved, oh how adorable you look blushing like that. Oh my jewel, I'm at a loss for words. Do you have a gift of memory for me? For me? Your husband? Through the cosmos, I knew this day would come. I shall empty my whole calendar for you, my beloved spouse. Will this be a romantic encounter? I shall ask for dinner to be prepared! "
"No... No... Can it just be two of us? Nothing special, no dinner. I'll bring something with me. Will that be ok?" Gods you feel so embarrassed and it feels Ophion grew in size since you asked him. Not sure if it's because he is so proud of himself or excited or both, proud and excited, which reminded you.
"Please, don't go telling everyone."
"Ah, my beloved jewel, why do you think I would do such a thing?" Ophion protested quietly.
"Because you would want everyone to know how proud you are, and to make Lucifuge and Hakumen jealous and angry." You point out.
"My beloved, your words are so hurtful, however true. I would take great pleasure in making, especially that fox woman, jealous as you say. Her scheming is always troublesome." Ophion grimaced and then smiled towards you sticking his tongue out the way he always would. You both spend a moment in this odd silence. Your hand on his arm and shoulder leaning towards his head, Ophion's hand holding your back. You feeling his touch on your bare skin. His dark amber red eyes piercing through you with an intensity you haven't seen before.
"Sir Ophion! My lord! Please I beg you, enough of this. This is inappropriate! This situation should cease immediately!" You hear Aizen's voice coming loudly from behind the door.
You think of moving but Ophion's hand remains still holding you.
"My beloved jewel, I made a promise to shower you with my love for every day I have missed you from my lonely existence from when you have fallen into the sea forcibly. This short encounter, my beloved, has given me so much joy I struggle to express it with words. I... This young Ophion is stunned. You may think my beloved treasure, that I'm rash, and juvenile. But for one like me who lost so much and lived lonely in different worlds, I learned to treasure every moment. That's why my darling spouse, my heart's shouts so much whenever I'm with you. Please don't think any less of this godly husband of yours because of that."
You could hear a commotion outside.
"I... Think...I missed you." You say quietly embarrassed. Ophion closes his eyes with a smile and as your words were a magic spell his grip loosens letting you go.
"I will see you tonight before the concerto, yes my darling? Will that be suitable for you? And then tomorrow? Yes? My beloved?"
You nod in response. Suddenly the door bars wide open.
"My precious fallen star! Others have told me you were her-!" Lucifuge barges straight in completely oblivious he was set up probably by Lady Hakumen. He stops mid-word once he saw both you and Ophion and his face struck with panic and shocked grimace.
"Oh, gods this is so embarrassing." You back away from Ophion who pierces Lucifuge with a deadly stare and very, very quickly excuse yourself and leave both of them who just started their typical arguments.

"What do you mean you don't want to come with me? Come on? Nobody?" You cry annoyed hearing all of the gang decline your request.
"Kengo?"
"I'm sorry partner but I have a training session with Moritaka. Besides, I'm very into music and all sorts. Maybe if it's a fighting club or something. And we can join in!" He clasps his hands.
"I can't believe you are even thinking of asking this meathead. He doesn't know the difference between a drum and a cello if he saw one." Shiro huffs unimpressed. "Had I known earlier, and I mean days earlier I could have made different plans but this is too late of notice."
"I understand Shiro." You say resigned. "How about you Tsathoggua?"
"No!" He yells back at you from the gaming console.
"But-!"
"Nope! I mean there will be too many people there, and Hakumen and the rest. I just want a peaceful evening, yeah?"
You roll your eyes looking around the room.
"Ryota? Come on, please!"
"I would like to, but I've made plans to see Maria earlier so I can't. What's the problem anyway? Just go and enjoy yourself."
"Certainly, it will be a good, new experience for you and you can tell us everything about it. Just make sure you are back in time, yes? Keep me noticed about everything?" Shiro reminds you with a stricter tone.
"That goes to all of you. Not just our Guild Master!" He roars across the room.
"Sure dad" Kengo grins and quickly slips out of the room before Shiro reacts.
"Right, you all have fun. I wanted to see Mr Mononobe and ask him for a favour."
"Enjoy the music" Ryota's voice follows you as you leave.
"Thanks!" You stick your head back through the door with a grin.
Mr Mononobe wasn't the easiest to find but eventually, you spotted him during his round checking classrooms.
"Hello, Mr Mononobe. I hope you are well." You start politely.
"Ahhh. Hello, young one. Are you not getting ready to enjoy the weekend? I can see you have been spending a lot of time outdoors, the sun has definitely left a mark on you."
"It's just too hot to stay indoors if you don't have to. Can I ask you a favour Mr Mononobe?"
"Sure, let's hear it. I can't promise anything though." He smiles gently looking at you with his typical fatherly look.
"Can I borrow the star projector from the astronomy classroom for a day or two? There is a... project thing... I'd like to use it for."
"Project thing you say?" He measures you up with his look for a few seconds thinking. " Well, I can't see no harm in it. We do have more than one in the inventory, so I'm happy for you to borrow it as long as you return it in the same condition you took it." Mr Mononobe says, but then seeing you smile adds "But, in return, I'd like you to help Shiro out with his duties for the next week after that, yes? Fair deal?"
It sounded more than fair to you, especially since in your mind you imagined it going much less smooth.
"Thank you so much Mr Mononobe. You are the best!" You add with a smile.
"Everything for my students." He ruffles your hair flashing his teeth for a second then walks away to finish his duties.
Realising what's the hour you run back to your dorm room, but something catches your eye. On a wall within the main building was a painting, which you never noticed before. Thinking it through you realise it must have just been hang since you are absolutely sure it wasn't here before. The painting, presented in brilliant colours and detail a scene where a huge wave of water covers what looks to be Japan. With a red torii in its right lower corner and there a medieval warrior with a golden shield and what looked like a ghost of a woman.
Struck by the beauty of the painting and how unusual it was you remain in the hallway for a few minutes only to hear a familiar voice.
"Sheesh! It's so hard finding you! Hanuman gasps wildly, he must have been running all over the place trying to find you.
"I'm sorry. I was just on my way back to my room and got sidetracked". You reply.
Hanuman just gesticulates at you silently, clutching his knees and trying to catch a breath. Then he produces three envelopes and waves them in front of your face.
"Those came for you just now..."
You take the envelopes from him, all of them came from the Roppongi guild.
"Listen, Hanuman don't you want to go with-" You start saying but when you lift your head to look at him he is already running away.
"Sorry gotta go!" You can't stop yourself from making a sour face.
It's a bit off to receive three different envelopes from them, but you have a feeling you know what they are.
The first one containing a card that's so heavily soaked with perfumes you started sneezing. It's from Lady Hakumen who praises you in a million different ways and invites you to join her in her private pavilion for the concerto.
The second envelope contained a card that's full to the brink with gold leaves and very elaborate writing. You must admit the way the words were written is quite beautiful. It's from Lucifuge who also invites you to his private pavilion and to enjoy his company.
Holding the third envelope you are absolutely sure whom it's from and you feel a small tingling sensation when you open it and take the card which says: My dear friend. Would you like to join me today evening for tea before the concerto? I'm looking forward to seeing you. Licht
You read a few times, surprised and immediately make a decision as you haven't seen or talked to the Roppongi guild master in a while and thought it would be a nice change. At the same time, you feel just a small amount of disappointment you haven't received a card from Ophion. Quickly shaking that thought off, your return to your room and change. Thinking on your feet about what to wear you decide to put on a light yukata haori with a white upper part and a black lower one, hoping it's going to be presentable for the concerto. It looks good you think and leave. Glad about your choice you head towards Roppongi. Because of how light your clothes feel the summer heat doesn't bother you much anymore, still, the air feels heavy this evening.
After a while, you reach the resort. Surprised you noticed Melusine.
"Hi, Melusine" you say approaching her.
"Good evening, young milord. I'm happy to see you." She bows slightly, so wearing a summer yukata in pastel colours.
"Did Licht send you to meet me?" You ask thinking you already know the answer.
"Indeed, Monsieur Licht asked me to show you to the pavilion and prepare tea for you." She answers and you start walking together slowly.
"That's very kind of him. We haven't spoken in a while, it will be so good to catch up. Is everything ok with you? "
Melusine seems a bit distracted and before she can answer a stranger runs up to you. She stops suddenly and immediately steps in front of you as if she is trying to protect you.
"Is it him! Is it the one everyone is talking?! Is it the one Mistress Hakumen mentioned? The one who's soul contains souls of others?!" Melusine stops him before he can even get near to you.
"I'm sorry but I won't allow such behaviour around young milord, he is a guest here and under my protection!" Her voice changes slightly, becoming less friendly, not yet threatening.
The man stops but there is an odd uncontrollable craze in the way he talks and moves.
"Melusine it's ok." You feel like you should help him if you can. "Can I do something for you?" You ask stepping forward, finally able to look in his face.
His crazy eyes search for something within your face for a few seconds and then... His whole body shrivels down, like life and all hope has left him.
"I... I... I'm sorry. I thought you may be her... I thought... I'm sorry." The man apologies in a shaking stream of words and leaves.
Melusine doesn't say a word and both of you resume your walk. When you get to the concerto venue you can see there is plenty of sitting space for everyone with a multitude of comfy pillows in from of a large stage and a few smaller ones. All this from three sides is enclosed by three private pavilions that let you hide from the public eyes but still enjoy the music and the atmosphere.
"Monsieur Licht had some guests earlier so do not be surprised by the decoration" Melusine adds softly as she opens the door for you and you stop in the doorway speechless. The pavilion it's filled to the brink with the most delicate orchid flowers in gentle pastel colours, their sweet fragrance seeping into the evening air. Like a child, you wander around with an obscene smile touching the flowers and smelling them.
"This is... This..." You start but Melusine finishes for you with a rare mysterious smile.
"This is amazing? Please have a seat-" she points at pillows and seats and a coffee table "I will bring the drink and... Monsieur Licht should be here shortly."
Before she disappears you ask.
"Melusine, that man we met, who was that?" There was something about him that felt familiar and made you sad.
She stops with a sad look on her face.
"That was Orpheus, he is one of the artists that's going to perform tonight. Beyond that, I can't say I know more." You thank her for this and Melusine leaves you alone. Yet within a few seconds you couldn't but get up to explore the room and the beautiful flowers and their shapes. You heard shushed voices thinking it must be Licht and returned to looking at the flowers. Some of them were small and looked like butterflies in dozens on a single spike, where others were easily the size of the palm of your hand with long pendulous garlands. They were just beautiful, and you struggled to find and other words to describe it. What Licht was thinking you had no idea, and what guest he had earlier but this went beyond your wildest dreams. And then you thought maybe, just maybe it was for Melusine knowing their history.
"My dearest, beloved jewel." That voice.
You turn around only to see Ophion standing in the entrance where Melusine disappeared. He was wearing a white and gold yukata that lightly enveloped his body, uncovering a lot of his imposing, muscular stature. His wings spread only slightly as he wanted to make sure you won't run away. "What do you think, my wonderful spouse? Has your husband surprised you? This is a beautiful, delicate trap I have prepared for you."
"I have walked straight into this one, haven't I" You agree defeated, it was never an option you thought about. You had to admit you felt flattered.
"Of course, my beloved, my light that fills the darkness. This young Ophion, although not as experienced in strategy or tactics as my elder self, has unprecedented knowledge of what may please your heart. And if I know, I will spend every moment to find out! Hahaha!" Ophion laughs triumphantly.
"I can't believe Licht would trick me..." You ponder amused.
"Oh, my darling flower, do not hold this against our Guild Master. I have merely asked him for a... favour, which he was happy to oblige. Because of this nobody shall interrupt us if we don't want it. My beloved, I planned this just for you, we have so very few moments together alone... " He opens his arms wide invitingly but behind him appears Melusine with a bow and quietly excusing herself.
"Ophion, sir. Please forgive me the intrusion, I have brought the requested refreshments."
Ophion only nods looking at her nonchalantly and let's her prepare the table, after that she retreats bowing slightly again and sending you a brief smile.
"I..." You start."The flowers are beautiful... I've never seen anything like this before." You add to him. You are embarrassed, especially that you let yourself get into a trap as beautiful like this. Especially when you feel really flattered and there is a lot of thoughts rampaging around your head.
Ophion laughs triumphantly "These are merely a shadow to your beauty my darling, but it warms my heart knowing you like this little trap I have made. Shall we rest?" He extends his hand to you. "Do not be afraid, we won't be interrupted by anyone. I made sure of that."
You sit down and offer to fill his glass with a cold juice which he accepts with a warm smile towards you. But you notice, not for the first time there is an odd flame in Ophion's eyes, and now it hits you, it's somehow similar to the one you saw in the man you met earlier, Orpheus.
"There was something strange that happened today." You start hesitantly. "A man approached me and Melusine, he seemed... Troubled... Very, troubled and sad. He wanted to meet me, he seemed desperate, having his hopes high up and once he did he seemed... Disappointed. Like he lost all hope."
Ophion listed in silence but you could see he wasn't too pleased yet you continued.
"Melusine said his name is Orpheus, and I was... Concerned. "
A few moments passed before the golden dragon finally responded.
"My beloved spouse, I know the man of whom you speak. He is a fool. A poor fool, but a fool nonetheless and there is nothing you can do for him. He brought his fate on him himself."
But not being too happy with such a puzzling answer you decided to push on being honest about what you realized.
"There is a look in your eyes, the Old Ophion was very similar to him." You say slowly trying to pick the gentlest of words. Ophion ponders for a moment with a stone expression and then extends his hand to you inviting to sit closer to him.
"My darling spouse, this what you speak of, is the experience of loss." You hesitantly accept the invitation and sit next to Ophion, feeling the warmth of his skin. "Let me tell you a story of Orpheus, the fool as he is."
"Orpheus was born with a talent of music he was and always will be a singer, musician and poet, carrying a magnificent lyre on his shoulder able to enchant god, man or beast with his music, he had recently proposed to Eurydice whom he loved with all of his heart and beyond, but on the day of their wedding, ‘in the very bloom of her life’, she was bitten by a viper and died of its venom. Distraught with such grief, Orpheus fell into madness and wandered the earth looking for a way to bring his wife back to life. He wondered day and night until he finally found the entrance into the underworld and descended into the fiery pits of hell itself, determined to restore her to mortality. Nothing could stop his brave loving heart. He finally pleaded with Hades the god of the dead and Persephone for his wife's return, and his courage, devotion and eloquence ‘melted the hearts of the gods and the denizens of the underworld, and all fell silent’. Even Cerberus, the fierce three-headed dog that guards the gates of Hell, lies meekly at Persephone's feet.
The gods agreed to Eurydice’s return: Persephone especially sympathetic as she recalled her own forceful abduction by Hades. The only requirement was that Orpheus would not glance back at Eurydice until she was safely ensconced in the upper world. If he broke his word, she would be lost forever into Hell and there would be no changing the god's mind this time.
Orpheus agreed with the loving lightness in his heart and both him and Eurydice depart the underworld, him in the front paving the way for them, she quietly behind him stepping softly. However, Orpheus as emotionally tormented he was through all this time, with the creeping madness slowly started doubting and struggling to look ahead soon the deities have consented to her return. Throughout the underworld, the lovers ascended a steep and misty path and, as they neared the earth’s rim, Eurydice hasn't spoken a word in fear of what the gods may make of it snd anxious Orpheus began to shake inside of his soul. "What if they lied to me and this is but a trick, a joke of the gods. What if this is not my beloved Eurydice but some monstrous wickedness." These were the thoughts in his head. His mind fought with his heart. And just as they approached the exit from the underworld, just as the morning light shone in front of them through the dark gate, the fool Orpheus looked behind thinking "We are almost here. It won't hurt and I must know. My heart must know! He looked for his bride, and as he did he saw her gentle face her loving lips and eyes filled with fear when their gaze met. Eurydice immediately fell in pain and only managed to whisper a final farewell before being taken by a deathly shadow that dragged her into to the dying place. A godly force punched Orpheus out of the underworld and the gates shut before him and disappeared. He cried, pleaded and begged but no one would listen to him and after many days and nights broken Orpheus began to wonder again the world playing his music, with a mind of madness and a heartbroken beyond repair. Somehow he found his way here to this world my beloved spouse, and he hopes, maybe, maybe his wife was reborn in a different form. " Ophion finished his story with half-closed eyes, being so engulfed in his voice you didn't even notice when the music started and it must have been playing for quite a while now. "There is something we share, your Ophion and the fool Orpheus, we both lost our beloved, forcibly taken away by the world. You have seen my elder self, who was beyond help with his heart darkened and madness in his mind. This is why my dearest, my glittering jewel, I promised to gift you my love, my passion, with my whole self every day. This Ophion has finally found you!"
He finishes with a strange note in his voice. You think you finally understand, both what Orpheus and Ophion went through, it's different yet so similar. Remembering how much it took for the elder Ophion to snap out of his destructive madness. What loneliness and sorrow must have driven him to such a state. Looking for words to say you realise that through the story Ophion was slowly using the fact you were so enthralled into his tale to get closer to you. Both his large hand and wing were wrapped around you as he was laying on his side stretched across the floor with your body naturally using him as back support. He was surprisingly gentle.
"They say we are all fools when we are in love." You say finally.
Ophion laughs delighted, his ego right now must be beaming knowing he has you where he wanted, and willing to accept his advances.
"Indeed my beloved spouse, indeed we are. But let this golden dragon tell you who knows many stories, in my millennia-long life I learned it's what you do every day about your love that matters."
You then thought to yourself well what if you are a bit of a child and a coward. Fighting is definitely easier than talking about one's feeling, even Shiro's knowledge tests are easier than... Ok just breathe. You look around the pavilion, the sun slowly setting down painted the inside in crimson and amber shades. Shades elongated everywhere and within them Ophion's burning eyes and the music in the air.
"My darling starlight, beloved spouse, you are so beautiful today, this husband of yours cannot take his eyes off you. Had I known it would be so easy to capture you in this beautiful trap of my devotion I would have done it a long time ago. "Ophion says caressing your shoulder with his arm.
"I wasn't expecting tonight to be like this, you are correct, but everything else after was because I wanted it to happen..." You say turning your head away, but Ophion's lures your gaze back at him by placing his fingers along your chin.
"Is that so, my beloved spouse? Has this husband of yours made you happy?" His voice lowers to a grumble.
"I can't confirm or deny because I'm worried you may want to tell everyone gathered here." You tease lightly.
"Bwahahahaha" Ophion laughs amused. "My beloved, always so feisty, always know how to keep your husband on your toes. How you turn my words against me my jewel in a delightful skirmish."
You close your eyes with an amused smile, having to admit this evening had turned so much better than you could have ever expected.
"Could you tell me another story? Something about heroes, or how the stars were created." You ask, Ophion seems to have a talent for telling captivating tales, or maybe it's because he tells them to you. The golden dragon smiles mysteriously sticking his tongue out.
"Ah, my beloved spouse, you want another story? But where is there a reward for your dearest husband? I have gifted you one tale of the past already. This dearest Ophion of yours should ask for something in return. All stories are of value." He says still smiling mischievously. But before he can make his loving demands you stop him.
"What about if... Umm... If I move closer." You say trying to move your body but Ophion's arm already pulls you towards him.
"Closer you say, my beloved? I'm not sure if this husband of yours can accept such a payment" He murmurs amused.
"Closer..." You reply with a laugh feeling his arm move you further.
"Perhaps... This Ophion can agree to such a delightful agreement, but I'm not..." He continues pressing on your arm, you can feel the pillow you are sitting on moving.
"Just shut up and embrace me" You laugh finally in response and with these words you can feel his huge figure move suddenly, his large strong arms find their way under your own wrapping themselves around your chest. You are glad for your light clothes because of the heat emanating from his body, feeling the stone-hard musculature touch your back.
"This Ophion has finally captured the most beautiful pray in his delightful trap." He says into your ears.
"A pray would only allow such a thing if they wanted to be caught." You answer him with a strongly beating heart, feeling that Ophion will not let you go that easily tonight.
"My beloved spouse, you... You... hahaha I have fallen in my own trap! You make this Ophion's heart so happy, I can feel my body trembling." There was a shiver that travelled across his arms as he spoke, his words rumbling in your ears. "I shall grant your request, my beloved, my jewel in the skies, let me tell you a story of a war between two cities and a woman who caused it all..."  As he spoke his voice mixed with the music in the air that evening.
 *
You slept well this night after you returned from the event. Ophion purposely extended his story almost making you late for the school curfew. But you didn't mind at all.
This night you experience a dream, very different from the calm ones you seemed to have. Before you would see beautiful, serene scenery, hear a piece of gentle music that you taught yourself to replicate and a gentle song. What you remember most was a pair of gentle amber-red eyes following your every move.
This nights dream was different. You found yourself on a beach overlooking a vast dark ocean covered in thick clouds. A bright fiery light cut through these lights like and hit the ocean like a projectile of fire only to vanish under the waves momentarily. The clouds opened only for a second for you to see a tall mountain. Everything started to shake, the ground moving violently and suddenly the mountain top exploded ravaged by bright, angry flames sending massive pieces of rock everywhere. As you cover your eyes and duck you see a tremendous, angry wave approaches the coast growing bigger and bigger. The ground doesn't stop shaking.
You wake up suddenly only to realize the shaking hasn't stopped and an alarm is resonating through the school. Slightly panicked you look around, furniture creaking and moving. Right now you should be making sure you were looking for cover and sticking to the disaster prevention and Safety protocol, but instead struggling to keep your balance you throw on your clothes and run out to make sure your friends are safe.
Not long after you see Kengo and Moritaka half crouched trying to hold their balance.
"Kengo! Moritaka! You are ok!" You shout running towards them
"You idiot! What are you doing here? It's dangerous!"
"Indeed my friend, you should not be exposing yourself to any dangers like that. Earthquakes are not something we can control with sacred artefacts."
"Oh? And I thought you just bashed Kengo's head hard enough the ground started shaking." Suddenly you hear Shiro, he was walking slowly toward you. "You shouldn't be looking for trouble in a situation like this!" He adds angrily.
"Same goes to you!" You respond quickly.
"It's my duty to make sure everyone is safe!" Shiro huffs unimpressed.
"I have to make sure my friends are safe. Where is Ryota? Did you see Hanuman?" You flash a challenging grin towards Shiro. His frow disappears hearing your words replaced by embarrassment.
"Ryota stayed over at the Aoyama yesterday, he called me asking for permission. "
"Hanuman was in training with us but left earlier, he said he was starving. I'm sure he will be fine..." Moritaka responded to your questions and halfway through the shaking eased down and stopped. Everyone was waiting in silence but the quake didn't return.
"Mr Jin there they are" You recognised Toji's voice.
"My students! My beloved students are you alright?! Is everyone safe".
"I'm so glad we found you!" Hanuman jumps all over the place happy as you slowly get up, lending your hand to Kengo, who is unimaginably heavy.
"You really need to cut down on chocolate." You say after he is up.
"Oi! Cut it out. It train really hard!" He protests with a fake anger outburst.
"Hey, why is everyone here," Toji asks. "Hanuman only said about Kengo and Moritaka, not you two."
"I had to make sure my friends are alright. Shiro did the same."
"I'm so glad you all are safe!" Mr Jin laughed and suddenly stopped. "What did you say?! You were ignoring the obvious dangerous situation?! "His angry roar could be heard from everywhere and it attracted the attention of Mr Mononobe who together with the other teachers was making sure everyone is ok and there is no structural damage to the school.
"Mr Jin, what is this shouting? Are the students alright?" Mr Mononobe was walking very with a serious face. He must have been incredibly worried and stressed.
"No, no, no Mr Mononobe. All of our beloved students are fine, except these two who blatantly ignored the crisis of the situation." Mr Jin talks very fast giving both you and Shiro an unpleasant, angry look.
"How do? What have they done." Mr Mononobe forces himself to be calm narrowing his eyes at both of you. Shiro's face went pale but you decided to take the blame even if there was nothing wrong about what you have done.
"Mr Jin, Mr Mononobe. We have only left the safety of our rooms to make sure our friends and anyone who may be in trouble is safe." You straighten up without letting the teacher speak. Mr Jin huff loudly surprised.
Mr Mononobe considers his words for a few seconds, his frow eases down.
"What if you helping others would put you in direct danger? Have you thought about that?" He asks you.
"It won't matter as long as we can help them." Shiro jumps in the conversation.
"That's right." You agree.
Mr Mononobe closes his eyes and nods slowly.
"It's ok Mr Jin, those kids have their heads and hearts in the right place. Now stop standing around and go help! "
Quickly the whole gang scatters around the school to help the teachers and other students. Your whole morning passes in a new busy routine, checking the news and listening to your elders to make sure everything is going to be fine. The earthquake was classified as an isolated tremor that came from the land, with no predicted aftershocks. The city didn't experience any problems or damage except some broken furniture and unfortunate accidents that were treated in the hospital right now. It seems everything was back to normal.
Having the chance to relax you pick up the projector from the inventory and send Melusine a polite message asking her for a favour explaining you would need something transported to Ophion tower, small personal items. Only if she wouldn't mind. Shortly after Melusine answers, she would be happy to help and she will meet you shortly at the school.
Gathering your thoughts you return to your room. You look at a guitar that stands hidden in the corner. So far you managed to keep it away from your friends, especially Kengo, as you were worried he would break it by just touching it with his large, clumsy hands.
When the dreams started, the memory a few weeks back you could hear a melody. Initially, it was all scrambled up, just like everything was in reverse or through a badly adjusted radio. You couldn't make sense of anything. But then you started concentrating on one thing, the melody and each time it was clearer and clearer. Then one day, on a whim perhaps you thought, this melody shouldn't be hard to replicate, and being able to play it yourself could help with understanding the memory.
Thus you found a music shop, that stored all kinds of instruments, from drum and percussion kits to electric guitars and pianos. A very slim transient feline covered with many colourful patches of fur welcomed you very enthusiastically. She introduced herself as Saraswati and proceeded to praise all of the instruments and types of music.
Her welcome filled you with warmth and confidence, so you proceeded to explain, however badly, you wanted to learn how to play a melody from your memory. Saraswati was perplexed by your explanation but it made her curious so she kept asking questions, what instrument.
"AHH... I'm sorry... It was ancient-looking. I know how it looks but I don't know the name."
"How did you learn that melody in the first place?" Saraswati asks curiously.
"Most kids come in here wanting to become the next great idol, play the cool thing. Very few come because they love music, even fewer want to learn to play the piano or a violin. Sad times are upon us. I know all instruments, maybe if you draw it for me I'll be able to guess." She gives you something to draw on.
You agree and take a pencil from her. The lines you draw are a bit shaky and in the end, you present an image of u shaped instrument that reminds you of a horseshoe with strings in the centre of it going to the crossbar connecting both arms.
Saraswati studies it for a few seconds and then presents you with a smile. "That's a lyre. It's an instrument used in ancient times. You can say it's similar to a harpe but the rules of its music are more like a modern guitar."
"A lyre? Oh, that would make sense." You think about your dreams.
"Would it? Why so?"
"I saw this instrument in a dream that I think maybe a memory. But it's only a guess."
"Well, the only problem is I don't have a Lyra in stock. So sorry. On fact, it would be hard to get one anyway. These types of instruments are done per request and are quite pricey. Then you would need to attend a special lesson... Oh, trust me you don't want that!" She chuckled softly. "But... I have an idea".
Saraswati adds seeing your disappointment and pushes you into the depts of the shop.
"As I said the modern guitar operates on a very similar principle as the lyre. If you look and listen carefully you may even find one that sounds almost identical." She winks at you mysteriously.
"None of them is secretly sacred artefacts are they?" You joke nervously.
"Ahahaha oh no! Can you imagine what problems that would cause? Oh no, I can't have that in my shop! I put too much heart into it!"
Following Saraswati advice, you slowly look through all of the guitar instruments. There are electric ones in futuristic shapes or ones that resemble those you saw musicians holding on posters, then there are large guitars called acoustic but their sound just doesn't sit ok with your ear. Lastly, you glance on smaller, simpler guitars called classical one, their soft strings produce a warm melody very similar to that from your dreams.
And then you see the prices of these and your heart sinks while the jaw levitates very close to the floor. You have some money you managed to save up recently but not nearly enough to afford even the cheapest of those instruments.
Well, this plan will have to be put on hold for now you think and then unexpectedly something draws your eyes. You just noticed a boxed display with a Sale label on it. Within it you see all sorts of instruments, some are ex-display models, some seemed slightly damaged. In this box you find a single classical guitar, there was absolutely nothing wrong with it except one string being broken. You have just enough money to buy it.
"What's wrong with this guitar?" You ask Saraswati, the feline takes the instrument from your hands to inspect it.
It's a beautiful light guitar, painted in a very dark blue colour that reminds you of the night sky with silver nylon strings.
"There is nothing wrong with it deary, except the broken string. I can thread one for you for free, it will take me just a minute."
"Why was it in the sales box?" You ask curiously.
"It's the colour you see. Very few people would buy a guitar that's not in a light colour like brown or cream. If they are lacquered then maybe but this beautiful thing is in matt."
You admit you are completely lost and ask if you could buy it.
"Of course you can. Let me put on a new string, you know what because you are my first customer today why don't I present you with a guitar case and a book how to play it, yes?"
Saraswati is so kind and nice there is no way you can refuse her. And from that day each free moment, you found you spent on learning how to play the instrument, learning how to replay the sounds from the dreams. Initially, it was hard, your fingers hurt but each time seemed a bit easier. Then the dreams slowly became clearer, and the melody guided you. With the melody came words and suddenly you saw a familiar face with burning dark amber red eyes. Then you realized it wasn't any memory or dream, it was something from Ophion's past.
"Now I know what you were doing all this time when you weren't with us! Are you planning to become a musician, Guild Master?" Shiro's voice interrupted your chain of thoughts as you were sitting on your bed plucking the strings lovingly. Your heart sank and you face immediately felt flushed. Shiro laughed hard seeing your expression. "Don't be concerned, I'm not going to tell the others unless you want me to!"
"Don't you know how to knock?!" You cry out embarrassed.
"You left the door crack open."
"Ah-! I'm... I'm sorry I have been distracted recently." You reply slowly feeling guilty.
"I have noticed that's why I came to talk to you. Your head seems in the clouds, you drift away more often than usual. Is everything alright?"
You scan Shiro's face and measure your words not to say too much and you tell him about the memory and then your last dream with the earthquake.
Shiro almost jumps excited but there is some concern I'm his voice too. "Having a memory recall like that is fantastic! It means something in you is unlocking its secrets even if just a small bit. Do you know who’s memory it is?"
"Y-yes..." You stutter.
"I'm guessing you don't want to share it ?"
You silently turn your head.
"No... Not yet at least. And then there is a matter of the last dream."
"Hmpf... I wouldn't worry too much now. I would think your dreams were merely the effect of the earthquake. Like when you hear a sound while you dream and your brain incorporates it into the dream itself. "
"How do you know things like that?"
"I pay attention in class compared to you and Kengo! That reminds me. Melusine is looking for you." Shiro replies and readies to leave only to turn around. "Remember if there is anything, you can tell us right?"
You nod with a smile.
"Thanks" and Shiro disappears behind the door. Taking a deep breath you put the guitar into a case and pack the projector into a separate box. With both of them, you direct yourself to the school entrance where Melusine is waiting patiently.
"Hi, Melusine!" You greet her from afar, as you get closer you notice her usual outfit has been decorated in many places with garlands of familiar flowers.
"Hello young Milord, I hope you are well? I must take this chance and ask for forgiveness after yesterday. I was only following Monsieur Licht's request who specifically requested not to mention at any point Sir Ophion will be joining you."
"It's ok Melusine." You interrupt her. "It turned out better than I hoped. I... I thought it was Licht's gift to you. "
"Ah-!" Melusine blushes "That would be impossible. But Sir Ophion made a great deal of effort to get everything prepared. Nobody except humble myself and Monsieur Licht knew about his plan. He must care about you very much young Milord. In fact... I don't ever remember him carrying about anything and anyone in the past as his older self. You seem to cause impossible change whenever you go." She added with a hint of a smile.
"What's with these?" You ask about the flowers.
"Oh, forgive me, Milord. Monsieur Licht said I can keep any flowers I want before they get removed so I kept a few of them."
" And you keep saying some things are impossible. They look beautiful on you. Send my kindest regards to Licht when you see him, and thank you so much for your help. Hopefully, I can repay it somehow one day. Oh, by the way, one more thing. Is there any way through the building I can take to avoid meeting literary everyone?"
Melusine takes the boxes from you and slowly explains a route that should help you pass unnoticed, then leaves with a mysterious half-smile as she was deep in thought about what you said earlier.
The weather outdoors is still sunny and pleasant giving you some hope you won’t need the projector and nature will provide the best possible scenery. Does Ophion have a balcony you think only to chase those weird questions away and return to your room to get dressed and leave.
As you leave the dormitory and leave the school building a heavy hand lands on your shoulder unexpectedly.
“Hey-ho partner! Where are you going? Don’t you want to join us for some combat training?” Kengo stops you mid-track, his hand is firmly stuck on your shoulder and you can’t wriggle out from under his tight grip. The grin you see means he is up to no good again.
“Heyy! Actually, let’s get some snacks. We feel like we didn’t have the time to talk recently and I’m curious how the concerto was. Kengo said you got back really late yesterday?” Ryota is just next to him smiling innocently holding a bag of what looks like different colourful candies and crisps.
“Did he now?! And why are you here not at your room doing your penalty studies?!” Suddenly Shiro’s voice pierces the air loudly.
Kengo’s face goes pale.
“Oh crap! Sorry partner gotta run! Catch you later yes? I want the juicy details!”
“Me too!” Ryota tries to catch up with Kengo who left a trail of dust behind him.
You raise your thumb up to Shiro and wave. You can see him smile at you and then you get a message on the App.
“Stay out of trouble, OK?”
“I will.” You reply and press send. As you arrive at the Ophion tower with plenty of time to spare and make your way to the security reception.
“Hi, I’m here to see Ophion. He… is expecting me.” You say nervously.
A completely uninterested transient measures you for a second and then lets you in. “Yes, we have been told.” With relief, you direct your steps following the route Melusine told you which is the executive walkway that is almost always empty and takes an elevator. In your mind surprise visit would be out of place, especially since Ophion is not any man and may be occupied. The corridors around are lavishly decorated and you feel slightly out of place. But finally, the elevator arrives and you step into it.
Pondering why there is always a piece of weird music whenever you go to the office buildings a slight shake resonates around you. Unsure if it was just your imagination or something else you squeeze yourself into the corner. Another floor beeped before your eyes, and as you were counting down, only three more to go, everything starts shaking around you. Whatever is happening knocks you off your feet and you land painfully on the floor. At the same time, the elevator slows down and stops. The lights around you suddenly go out and you hear and electricity creek followed by a metal one. Suddenly there is an empty feeling in your stomach and you painfully drop on the floor again. Panicking you somehow roll to the corner. The elevator must have dropped down but the safety break kicked in just in time. For what feels like an eternity you are in total darkness, unable to understand what’s going on, absolutely scared. And then blue safety lights turn on. Still scared you slowly climb up and try to use the help alarm button on the console and call for help. But there is no reply from anyone. So you try and press every floor button hoping you will be able to get out this way. And then the shaking starts again and instantly you cover in the corner hearing the elevator creek dangerously. It’s a situation your powers won’t do you any good and it feels like you stopped between floors too. You try the help button again. Nothing. You try again. The elevator creeks dangerously again and you start praying to anyone and anything for it to hold and the shaking to stop. Not sure but you think you hear an alarm and screams in the background. With what feels like the worst shake so far everything feels like liquid around you. Suddenly you hear a metal creek just a meter above you and the light blind you. For a moment you flicker your eyes looking at a huge silhouette before you. In the elevator door using all of his might is no other than Ophion covered in dust and grime.
“My beloved give me your hand!” He extends it to you and you gladly take it. Ophion who is extremely strong being an eternal dragon god lifts you out the elevator without any problem. Once you are out and on your own legs you embrace him as hard as you can. That was a horrible and scary experience. “I’m here, I’m here my beloved flower, and nothing is going to hurt you anymore.” He is completely surprised by your reaction and accepts the embrace without hesitation.
“I’m… I’m ok, thanks to you. What happened?” You ask.
“My beloved, we experienced consecutive shock waves. Much, much stronger than these before. Alarms are going through the whole city of Tokyo as we speak. You should thank Aizen here as he was the one who heard plead for help through the elevator device.”
Surprised you thank Aizen, who for once doesn’t look angry. He remains quiet and nods in response. Then you look back at Ophion.
“Are you ok?” You suddenly notice a scrape on his arm. There is no blood but still.
“Oh, my beloved you worry about me? My heart is touched beyond imagination.” He says still embracing you. “I am fine, it was just a few ceiling panels that fell on me. Nothing that can hurt this godly dragon. “
“Ophion, sir! Are you sure you are unhurt? Maybe we should finish this little scene and get into safety!” And the old Aizen is back, however his expression remained unchanged. Once he said that a group of security mobs appeared running toward them.
“Sir! We found you! It’s good you are unharmed sir! We have news!”
Ophion reluctantly lets you go, but won’t let you move away from the reach of his hands or wings.
“Report! What’s the situation? Are you evacuating the civilians? Are there any injuries? Where are the other tycoons?”
“Sir we have been informed by the security forces this was no ordinary shock, but it was caused by the world collision.” One of the mobsters has pointed at the windows. To your surprise, the Tokyo border wall from the harbour was gone stretching to an open sea covered with angry clouds. It wasn’t destroyed in the quake no, it just vanished due to the collision event.
“Where was the source of the earthquake located?” You open your mouth asking loudly. Your mind went straight into the geography lessons and then something else entirely.
“What?” The mobster asked stupidly.
“What the earthquake on land or at sea?” You repeat.
“My beloved, what are you thinking?” Ophion asked.
“If this world collision has temporarily exposed us to an open sea and there was an earthquake which happened at sea everyone in Tokyo is in grave danger. “
Aizen was the first one to get what you were saying.
“Tsunami! The god wave! If the harbour wall is gone the wave will flood the whole city, bottling up because of the border wall!” He turned pale as paper.
“We need to send a message to everyone who has the app! Tell them to go to higher ground!”
Suddenly Tsathoggua appeared from nowhere holding Melusine, breathing heavily.
“Oh, you are ok! Melusine said you were in the building. I was right to think…” He had to stop to breathe. ”I’m not getting any better at this.. huff.. huff.. I was right to think you will be where Ophion is.”
“I'm extremely sorry if my guidance has caused you any trouble young milord.”
“It’s Ok Melusine, you couldn’t have known something like this would happen.”
“Shut up everyone!” Aizen roared. “We need to warn everyone”
“What about the non-app users?” You ask immediately. “We can’t just hope they will be alright. We need to do something.”
“How much time do we have?” Tsathoggua asks still breathing heavily. You look at the long line of windows and with a shiver see a dark shadow on the horizon.
“We don’t have much. Look.” You say pointing at what you saw unconsciously squeezing your sword. Your sword. Then something hits you. A shiver travelled from the top of your head down to your toes. Something you saw earlier, something somebody told you earlier, something you have heard before. The music you have been hearing, It had words and until now you couldn’t understand them. These words were “In the day’s to come my darling, I shall love you, my child, I shall protect you with the power of my ethereal shield of light.” Feeling a warmth come from your sword you now understand those weren’t just idle lyrics. It was the words of a rule of a secret artefact. One of the 24 pieces of what was embedded in your sword. And the scene from your dreams was almost identical, but there is no falling star and an exploding mountain. But the wave remains. And it’s coming fast.
“Are you ok young friend?” Tsotsung pulls your sleeve, it seems everyone is looking at you. “You switched off suddenly.”
“My beloved, we need to get into the shelter.” Ophion insists.
“No.”
“No?” He is troubled and confused. “But my jewel-“ You interrupt him.
“I need to get to the harbour. I think I can stop the wave... I’m not sure how yet but if this is a collision event and it’s somehow connected with an error within the app once this is over everything should go back to normal, yes? I had dreams and in one for them, this was exactly what I saw.”
“Those are just wild speculations! Where are those idiotic ideas coming from?! There are innocent lives at stake and you are trying to play a stupid hero! How incredibly childish of you, I couldn’t expect anything else.” Aizen snarled at your words.
“Aizen leave now!” Ophion almost hit the man in anger.
“Tell us what do you want to do.” Melusine insisted, together her and Tsathoggua expressed will to help.
“Since I know you, your plans and crazy ideas never failed. I trust you friend. I will take you to the harbour.” Tsotsunga said putting on a brave face.
“No! My beloved, my jewel, my darling spouse. I want to help you. I will take you to the harbour, but you must tell me about your plan. We don’t have much time. The wave is almost upon the city!” Ophion stepped in front of you showing all of his protective nature, almost as if hearing others offer help before he instigated a change of mind. Maybe he felt less worthy.
“My sword contains the shard of another sacred relic which was the Etheral Shield of Light its rule was Protection against all. Or so I think… ” Ophion’s eyes grew wider as he listened to your words astounded. “I have a memory that’s been following me for weeks now. That’s why I wanted to talk to you. It’s like something within me knew such an event may happen!”
“My flower! My love!” Ophion was trembling. “You must tell me everything once this is over. Let us haste to the harbour. I will be with you and be behind you at every step.”
You nod silently.
“Let everyone know to find shelter above ground. Tsathoggua please try and reach Mr Triton and others who have any degree of command over water if they can help.”
“On it” Tsathoggua vanished within a split second. At the same moment, you felt a strong arm wrap around you tightly and suddenly you were in the air. Ophion flew out of the terrace next to where you were, taking you with him.
“My beloved, why have you not told me sooner? Why keep this as a secret! My heart is trembling knowing there is even a minute piece of you that feels what I feel toward you!”
“Ophion, We are flying-!” you gasp shocked by the sensation.
“Don’t you like it, my love? There was no other way to get us to the harbour fast enough.”
“If it wasn’t for the circumstances I probably would enjoy it, but I wasn’t ready! Next time ask!”
“I'm sorry my darling, my fiery flower, my spouse. But you haven’t answered my question. Whatever happens, I want to know.”
You fall silent for a moment trying to gather words for an answer.
“I... I wanted to know if it was really me or just the memory. And then when the accident in the TSA happened and Seth’s shadow transported us to a real desert where we spent days wandering, each night I would look at the sky looking for the Dragon constellation… and think about the melody. And each night I would think that although I barely know you, I would miss you even if I never met you.”
“Ooh... Ooh...!” Ophion the Golden Dragon was trembling so much you could feel the hands holding you shaking. “This trembling feeling within my soul is equal to Heaven and Earth's creation itself. Those words! It filled the loneliness in this weary heart that has grown for millennia within seconds! My beloved! You cannot imagine how happy I am right now. But first, let’s save this diamond of a city from disaster. “ Your journey through the skies didn’t last long and you set foot in the harbour, that was already full of people and transients. Each one of them in a line trying to control the incoming wall of water.
“Thank gods you are safe!” You hear Shiro’s voice, behind him is Kengo and Ryota. All running towards you.
“What are you all doing here?! It's dangerous!” You shout at them as you set your feet at the ground.
“Well partner that’s not how you should be welcoming your friends!” Kengo measures Ophion with a cold look. “Looks like you had an interesting way of getting here!”
“Ophion sir! Thank you for helping our friend and bringing him here!” Shiro slurs out to Ophion.
“How did you get here? Where is Tsatsunga? Is he OK?”
Ryota gesticulates at a tall building nearby. “He collapsed exhausted after transporting dozens here. Moritaka is with him right now. Shiro used his powers to get us and Mr. Triton here the minute we got the message.”
“Shiro! Are you ok after that?” You ask your friend who seems paler than usual.
“Yes, yes I am fine. I had a minor nose bleed but it stopped now.” He answers avoiding your stare. “I’m not sure what can we accomplish. A Tsunami is a force of nature, us app users and other Transient don’t seem to have any chance to stop it. This is going to be a massacre!” He keeps trying to rationalize.
“My sword contains a shard of another sacred relic, the Etheral Shield of Light its rule was Protection against all. I know it is going to work.”
“How do you know what? Is it something to do with that memory you said you kept having?” Shiro asked looking at you and then at the approaching wall of water. It was getting nearer and nearer and it didn’t look like the united forces of water relics were doing anything beyond slowing It down.
“Come on kids! Put your back into it! We have a whole city counting on us!” Mr Triton was shouting louder and louder.
You turn around to Ophion. “Can you protect the civilians and anyone who may get into the harm's way?”
“My darling love, Of course! Whatever your plan you need to be ready. I will help as much as I can. I shall call upon my children to be ready to lift anyone into the skies to protect them from the flood wave.” And he has done as he said lifting his sacred relic into the skies, and with a blast of light, dozens of wyverns filled the skies ready.
The tsunami wave was incoming faster now, filling the whole horizon, the sky darkened angrily. This must-have happened somewhere you think, at some time in the history. You think about that picture you saw.
“Shiro, I saw a painting of a tsunami wave, and there were a man and a ghost of a woman that was trying to stop it. What is the story of that painting.” You ask bracing yourself.
Shiro is quite stunned after you tell him this.
“You are talking about The Great Wave off Kanagawa, but there is no man or woman in that painting.”
“Great, so either I’m hallucinating or something else is happening.”
“What if the collision of the worlds started happening much earlier than we thought, and what you saw had something to do with it.”
“I’m thinking my resurfacing memory has something to do with the tsunami.”
Shiro nodded eagerly.
“Don’t you remember? It happened before that you remembered a forgotten part of your powers before during different events.”
“But this is different, this started happening weeks ago.” You say to him.
“Whatever happens Partner, we are here to help you. We will always have your back.” Kengo adds. “Let’s see what my fists can do against a wall of water.”
“I will be with you my friends, even if you take me to the scariest places in all of the 23 worlds.” Ryota yelps quietly. He is scared and shaking yet still with you.
“Oh, gods it’s coming!” Somebody shouted! Screams started getting louder, some transients panicked and run and Mr Triton started having issues controlling the speed of the incoming wave. You could feel an unearthly rumble as the wall of water was before you.
You felt ready. You were ready, you had to be.
”Role of Wanderer, Rule of Rending! Engrave mine name onto thee Come out, Boundless Tail!!”
But nothing happened. Nothing at all. Your swords shone its normal light, but there was nothing your power could affect.
“No, no! This is not right! I know I can do something!”
Ophion lay his hand on your shoulder. “We must go now, my love!”
“No! I know I can help! I just… The song! The words were: In the day’s to come my darling, I shall love you, my child, I shall protect you with the power of my ethereal shield of light.” You panic seeing the wave almost upon on you, glancing over everyone.
Ophion gives away an odd laugh that seems so out of place right now.
“My dearest, you are calling upon the wrong artefact! You must call upon the rule of protection! With the memory this strong it means it has a power of its own over your sacred artefact.”
You turn back to the wave in fear.
“Role of the guardian, Rule of protection! Engrave my name unto thee! Come forth Ethereal shield of light!” But still, nothing happens.
But you don’t give up concentrating even more with your eyes closed. “ Rule of protection! Engrave my name unto thee! Come forth Ethereal shield of light!” There is still nothing.
Feeling the water droplets on your hair and screams around you shout again one last time. “ Role of the guardian, Rule of protection! Engrave my name unto thee! Come forth Ethereal shield of light!” Suddenly a force so powerful hits your body as something has torn the flesh out of your bones. The wall of light emanating out of your swords is so bright you can’t even physically keep your eyes open as and the vibration of the blade is almost breaking the bones in your hand. But you hold it tight as a wall extends in every direction. You know it’s the shield of light, the same one the goddess Euronome used to protect her children during the war of gods, the same she used on Olympos to protect those innocent around her dragged into the war of Titans. You feel your body strength failing and drop on one knee feeling tremendous pain. But there is a dozen of hands suddenly holding your back keeping you from falling. You hear so many voices, calling upon so many rules. You hear Mr Triton calling his rule, you hear Ophion shouting out commands to the Wyverns at the ready to help in an evacuation, You hear Ryota providing healing to others and yourself.
“You can do it, my child. Hold on just a little longer!” Somebody, a woman whispers to your ear. You will try as much as you can, but there is blood going down your nose. The force you are against may just kill you. But you don’t care hearing the words of Mr Mononobe in your head over and over intertwined with the song. “Prove yourself that you are not just a hero in the App. Prove you can defend those innocent from forces far greater than any battle.” With your hands in so much pain, you don’t know if you will be ever able to move your fingers again, with no sounds coming to you because you think your eardrums exploded and the blood is dripping down your neck the strength of your body finally fails you and collapse into darkness.
 *
In your dreams, you hear and see many things, and the beautiful watercolour world around you dances gently and suddenly a slender figure emerges from the kaleidoscope of colours.
“Well done my child, you have done it. I’m so proud of you.” The woman speaks to you, her voice feels like it is coming from far away.
“Are you-?” You ask without words spoken.
“I am. Or I may be, or I may be just the figment of your imagination. After all, you exhausted your frail body greatly.” She responds with a crystal laugh.
“I thought you would be…” You start but she stops you.
“A dragon? Like my husband? Ahahaha… We were born beyond such boundaries, unconcerned by shape.”
“You are strong for one who has such a great burden on them. I only hope you are strong enough for all the challenges awaiting you. “ She continues. “ As for what is perplexing you, it’s not the memory of me that’s keeping your mind confused, it never was.”
“Am I falling for a god then?” You ask, although unsure if you did but the words resonate anyway. Realizing you won’t have any secrets here.
“Haha-!” The woman laughs warm. “And what if yes? What burdens does it bring to you?”
“Ophion is a bit much. He is a god, a godly dragon… and…”
“And what of it my child? Give yourself and him a chance. Remember he is the father of all in our world, and his golden heart is pure, and his love eternal. Yes, he has spent millennia without a force to restrain his fatherly ego, and in loneliness. Such things would poison any mind. What you witnessed, in your last dream was the moment of my fall… and the moment his heart broke… “ She added sadly. “I am sorry this somehow has influenced your world.”
“It’s time for you to wake up my child. Beware thou, the Rule of the Guardian is not one to be taken lightly as it is a burden that will exhaust your body beyond the boundaries of this peculiar prison everyone is tied to.”
“Can I ask you-!” You suddenly try to find where the voice is coming as the woman seems to have disappeared. Only to approach you from behind and whisper to your ear “Wake up”.
 *
You were in a hospital room, your head still dizzy and the sounds coming to you weren’t completely normal. “So everything truly happened.” You lift a hurting hand trying to reach to your ear but it is still painful. So that’s how physical pain feels like compared to a memory of it from the app. Then you notice Ophion on a large chair next to you. How odd it looks having him here, his large frame bigger than any human, sleeping so peacefully. He must have taken a nap while being here. And then he gave out a gentle snore making you laugh quietly to yourself. It didn’t take him long to wake up and yawn revealing a mouth full of sharp teeth.
“Hey, sleepyhead.” You greet him with a smile.
“My beloved! Forgive me, with so much going on I didn’t have the time to sleep at all.” He looked at you with his dark ember red eyes.
“How long has it been?”
“You slept for almost three days my jewel. How are you feeling? The healers here said your body needs rest. It was hard to explain to them what exactly ailed you since the App injuries seem to be beyond the comprehension of your medicine.”
“My head is still tired, and my body aches but I’m better. So… we have done it. The city is safe?” You ask with a weary voice.
Ophion shifts on his chair leaning towards you.
“Yes my darling spouse, everything is back to normal. It seems your conclusion was correct, my beloved, and after the wave of water was stopped the glitch in the app caused by the world collision cleared itself out. With one exception. World collisions don’t function as app battles, and some physical damage caused by the quake remained, but nobody was hurt.”
“I'm so happy everyone is ok.” You let out the words with relief.
“Yes, yes, my wonderful flower. My children scouted the city to help while you were resting. Your friends will be here shortly I assume. But before that, I need to tell you, my love, no, I need to ask you to promise me not to do anything like that ever again! It was brave but foolish! I, your husband will sacrifice my body for you If I have to! You should never endanger yourself! Not in this frail form! I could not bear losing you again! My beloved, you must promise me! If you won’t I will have to come up with a plan to perhaps enslave you temporarily whenever danger is near to stop you from running toward it.” Ophion is back being himself, with his voice booming across the room.
“You want to enslave me to stop me from getting hurt?”
“In the most comfortable of ways my love!” He adds quickly.
“You know you snore? I’m going to tell everyone if you even think about locking me up somewhere!” You tease him.
“My darling spouse you wouldn’t-!”
And you just thought you have a secret weapon flashing a cheeky smile at him.
 *
You found yourself staring at the elevator door at the Ophion Tower waiting for it to arrive. It’s been a few days now since the event and you are back on your feet. Of course, this goes without saying you got into trouble at school which Mr Mononobe was willing to turn a blind eye as long as you attend a few extracurricular lessons with him to make sure you caught up with all of the lessons you missed. But this Friday evening you were only thinking to yourself “I just hope I'm not going to embarrass myself”. The weather outside has taken a dramatic turn with a heavy downpour forcing you to rethink your plans. The elevator doors finally open, still with a bit of a fright after the last time you enter and purposely press the floor just below your destination. Closing your eyes for a few seconds you await the familiar sound and yes, you are here. As the door opens you exit with relief with. It was Melusine who told you to skip a floor, claiming you may walk into Aizen. She was right, as you approached the staircase you hear a loud marching noise and a very annoyed monologue.
“I can’t believe my beloved sir Ophion send me away! Me! His loyal servant! To meet this stupid brat! I will find a way! I will! The embarrassment! How dare he!”
“Oh dear,” You think to yourself waiting for the man to disappear and then you walk up the staircase. With each step, it feels harder to walk as if somebody would be adding sand to your burden. But you made a promise, and as nerve-wracking this is you knocked on the door. And there he was. Ophion opened, with his huge silhouette filling the door frame. You just realized they probably had to enlarge all entryways just for him. Unlike his usual clothes, he was wearing a black shirt that was fully pinned up which somehow felt odd.
“My beloved! Please enter. Welcome to my private chambers, that not many have the right to enter! You look unearthly today.” He says trying to sway you as always.
“Hi… You… look different?” You hesitate. “It’s a good different, but I never saw you buttoned up.”
Ophion laughs loudly.
“My darling, I, your husband still need to run a business. But if it pleases you I can change in something more attractive to your eyes? Yes, my love?” You can feel your ears burning.
“You are impossible.” You reply.
“Ah my beloved, of course, I am impossible, I am the godly dragon beloved by all,” Ophion responds with his typical smile and a wink. You are sure he didn’t understand what you meant.
“My flower, my love, I wasn’t sure if you were hungry or thirsty so I asked some refreshments to be brought up. And yes, my spouse, the items you asked to be delivered here were left untouched. You think I wouldn’t notice?” He teases you.
With a pounding heart you think to yourself “Well, this is a moment of truth”. And you approach the boxes that have the projector and your guitar case.
“I’m not hungry right now. And…” Ophion stares at you intensively. “Can we spread some pillows on the floor to sit down?” You ask hesitating.
“Anything you want my love.” As odd it feels you and him take some pillows of the elegant sofas that are within the living area of the apartment and move the furniture away to make more sitting space. You ask Ophion to sit and make himself comfortable, and with amusement you watch the dragon take his time to awkwardly sit on the floor, he smiles like a giddy child to you all the time.  You take out the projector and place it on the floor and then uncase your guitar. Finally, you kneel in front of Ophion who is with great anticipation is observing your every move. There is something in his dark amber eyes you can’t quite place or name.
“Right… I feel nervous and embarrassed.” You say out loud.
“My beloved, why would you be? There is nobody here beyond us.”
“I’m nervous because you are here.” You repeat.
“My darling spouse, I’m confused.” He reaches out and grabs your hand with his. It’s very warm on your skin.
“So… I wanted to see you because I have something for you. A gift let’s call it. It’s the memory I’ve been having, and I wanted to reconstruct it for you somehow.”
“Oh, oh-! My beloved, my heart is shaking. Did you go to so much trouble… for me? Your Ophion?” He smiles openly.
“Can we dim down the lights?” You ask.
“But my dearest jewel, are you sure the floor will be comfortable enough, what about the bedroom-!”
“Ophion!” You protest loudly before he can finish.
“I apologize, my beloved! But you made it so easy…” He sticks out his tongue and does as you request diming down the lights in the living area, not completely dark but enough to what you wanted to do.
“Because mother-nature has been fickle today and I can’t do what I wanted I thought I will present you with something.” You say like a magician preparing the audience for a magic trick.
“Oh my starling jewel, I cannot contain my excitement, I-!” He starts but you interrupt him.
“I give you the stars on a night’s sky.” You say and turn on the start projector. The device lights up the entire room with hundreds of constellations, and stars from all over our galaxy, gently moving to simulate the motion of a night sky above us. With that you pick up your guitar, and gently settle yourself in front of Ophion, with your back towards him, almost touching his chest feeling the heat of his body, but far enough not to touch him while playing.
“In this memory, I would sit like this and play an instrument very much like this and you were listening.” You say lowering your voice as you start gently pulling the nylon strings. Although in his memory the melody was played on an ancient lyre, you were able to easily reproduce it on a classical guitar with almost identical quality. The first few notes came out a bit harsh but once the nerves went away the melody flew gently and pleasantly in the night air with the stars above you. It felt magical and you didn’t want it to stop. Surprisingly you felt Ophion reach-out to you and slowly wrap his large, solid arms around you and place his head on your shoulder. It didn’t stop you from playing at all, it just made your heart beat faster and harder. The melody wasn’t long at all and it was easy to repeat in an infinite loop, perhaps even it was created that way.
“I know it’s not much but I wanted this to be a gift to you.” You say softly still playing.
“Oh my world, you need not say anything, this is the mo1st beautiful of gifts you have ever given me and I wish it wouldn’t stop. Among these riches that surround us, this is the only thing worth cherishing” Ophion says smiling with his head still on your shoulder.
“I’m happy you think so.” You add and after a moment of thinking you turn your head and kiss his cheek, feeling the gentle giant tremble as you do it.

10.30 pm – 12/08/17 – Day 01
The bus set out from Bangalore, a slight delay, thanks to which I was able to grab some food! In about 14 hours, the bus would take me far away from the original intended destination.
Tumblr media
A coffee never hurt, especially when stuck without a plan!!!
7am – 13/08/17 – Day 02
The morning found me staring into the countryside, its overcast gray skies, and the semi barren fields in against the rust red of the iron ore on the road! Hampi was still 2 hours away. What started as a trip to Gandikota in AP, was inching towards Hampi in North Karnataka!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The previous two days had gone by in a blur! With no plan, and no tickets to Kurnool, last minute changes had to be done to ensure that there atleast was a trip! The only other place that I could think of then was Hampi! Good thing I already had tickets to Bangalore! All that was left was to find a ticket to Hampi from Bangalore and from Hampi to Chennai! A colleague (now, wife) helped with the bus planning and booking a stop-over stay at Bangalore!
After almost an entire day of roaming, a café in Bangalore gave enough time to Google up Hampi and possible places of stay there! A few phone calls later, one place asked me to call them again on reaching! Wondering if the plans would materialize, strolled around Bangalore a little bit more, met some friends, and finally when it was time, boarded the bus to Hampi! The one persistent thought however, was what If there was no accommodation?! It was after-all a long weekend!
Tumblr media
A gust of wind ensured I was back, staring at the overcast skies, the broken down trucks along the highway and the oodles of rust on the road. After a lengthy detour post Ballari, the bus ambled into the dusty little town of Hospet! Hampi is 16 km from here! Found a couple who were also headed the same way, grabbed an auto to share charges and off we went!
Dropping them off at their shack, I went about looking for the contact I had spoken to! Funny thing, with the mountains and boulders all around, there was very little network. Finding the place was a task, but thankfully, the temple town isn’t too large and finally, reached the homestay.
A small but a neat place, it was located very close to the Virupaksha temple.
** To those who plan to visit Hampi, there are basically 3 options for accommodation. Those that plan to do the trip by their own vehicles can stay at Hospet, or at Kamalapur (close to Hampi). The other two options are to stay at the temple town itself in its few homestays, or stay at Virupapur Gaddi, across the river! Those that stay at Hampi should be aware that the food available would be completely vegetarian fare since it is a temple town! The hippie town on the other bank however is for those with a palate for a wider spectrum of food, although the last coracle/boat is at 6 pm, after which the only other way is a 30 odd km detour! **
The family that ran the place were warm, and although the room they had planned to accommodate me in wasn’t empty till later that day, they found a temporary room for me on the first floor! The terrace had an amazing view, of the Virupaksha temple on one side, the Mathanga hill on the other side with the distant Tugabhadra river gurgling away in the distance! It was indeed blissful to spend time under the overcast skies on the terrace, with the multiple temples and halls on the Hemkuta hills for company!

The main road into Hampi
Mathanga hill from the guesthouse!
Freshened up, and having some nice toast with butter and jam for breakfast! I set out into the temple town! The first spot was the famous Virupaksha temple. Unlike many other temples in Hampi, the Virupaksha temple is still active, and the pujas are conducted here. One interesting aspect of the temple is the “pin-hole” camera effect, where a small hole on the wall inside a small room within the temple makes it act as a pin hole camera, forming a perfect inverted image of the main gopuram on the opposite wall.
Tumblr media
Virupaksha Temple
Origin of Hampi:
The name Hampi is evolved from Pampa, the ancient name of the river Tungabhadra. Also Pampa is the daughter of Brahma, the Creator God. She was a devoted worshiper of Shiva, the God of Destruction. Impressed by her dedication Shiva offered her a boon and she opted to marry him! The place thus came to be known as Pampakshetra (land of Pampa) and Shiva as Pampapathi (consort of Pampa).
The Hemakuta Hill in Hampi is the place, according to the myth, Shiva did his penance before marrying Pampa. Kama , the God of Love, felt sympathy for Pampa for her love towards Shiva. He disturbed Shiva from his deep meditation. That attracted Shiva’s wrath. Known for his anger, Shiva burned Kama with his third (fiery) eye. Rathi, Goddess of Passion and also Kama’s consort pleaded for mercy with Shiva. Shiva grants Kama’s life back, but only as a character and not as a physical being.
On Shiva’s marriage with Pampa Gods from the heaven showered gold on the place. This hill in Hampi is called Heamakuta, literally means heap of gold.
All these places have immense religious significance for the Hindus in south India, especially the devotees of Lord Shiva. In the beginning Pampa was a local folk deity. Through the concept of a marriage with Shiva, goddess Pampa is associated into the pantheon of the Hindu gods.
The places mentioned here has a continuous religious history ever since known timeframe. It just happened that the Vijayanagara Empire came in-between and gone as an episode in Hampi’s long history. Even today the annual ceremonial marriage festival & the betrothal are important festivals in Hampi. With time, Shiva became more popular here as Virupaksha. Virupaksha, an incarnation of Shiva, literally means the one with oblique eye. This refers to the fact that Shiva has three eyes. The third fire eye on his forehead opens when he do the destruction.
As a tourist you can visit Virupaksha Temple (the main functioning temple in Hampi), Hemakuta hill (with about 40 temples concentrated on it), Pampa Sarovar (where Pampa did penance) and of course the river Tungabadhra.
Kishkinda Episode: A popular folklore associates the landscape in Hampi with the Hindu epic Ramayana. The monkey kingdom, Kishkinda, is portrayed as the region around Hampi. Anjayaneya Hill, located across the river Tungabhadra, is believed to be the birth place of Hanuman.
For the Prahlada episode see the Story of Narasimha. You’ll find this man-lion incarnation of Lord Vishnu icon at many sites in Hampi including the Vittala Temple and Lakshmi Narasimha Temple .
The curiously named, Bhima’s Gateway located on the way to Vittala Temple from Kamalapura has a beautiful panel of Keechaka episode that happened during the exile of Pandava’s. On the left is the image of Draupathi tying up her hair after Bhima slayed Duhsasana. Right image portrays Bhima killing Keechaka.
Below is the panel of Bhima with a flower bud describing the Saugandhika flower episode
In Hampi you’ll find this theme of adolescent Krishna stealing cloths of cowherd girls (Krishna on the tree with Gopis pleading with their hands folded in reverence). There is one pillar with this theme carved on one of the the slender pillars of  the Kadalekalu Ganesha and another beautiful one at the Pattabhirama Temple, though a damaged due to vandalism.
Those finally end up in Hampi invariably wonder how on earth such a landscape got created! Well, you have two choices to find a solace: one in geology and the other in mythology. (Source: Hampi.in)
Ambling through the ancient temple, one cannot help but wonder how many generations of men and women this place must have borne, the amount of prayers heard, right from the greedy selfish ones to the most selfless of prayers when the Vijayanagar Empire was attacked by the Sultanate rulers. But, despite all odds, the temple still stands, a mute testimony to the will power of the humans that ensured that at least some of the grandeur was not lost to the elements of time. The vast temple, led to an equally majestic tank on the side of the river.
Tumblr media
Manmatha Tank
The temple is the center of activity in Hampi. While the road spread out on the South towards Kamalapur and onward to the highway linking it to Bangalore, the North side towards the Tungabhadra river is full of an assortment of homestays, restaurants and shops for various trinkets! Whether they are authentic, is anybody’s guess! A little walk from the temple leads to the ghats along the River, boats, both powered and hand paddled take one across for a small fare!
Tungabhadra river
To the South and the east of the Virupaksha temple are some of the more important ruins (did not have enough time to try explore the western side!). On the south, are the famous Hemakuta hills, and the large mandapams on the hills. Two major spots on these hills are the Kadalekalu Ganesa and a little further, the Sasivekalu Ganesa!

The town is completely dotted with the ruins of the ancient Vijayanagar empire, so much so that it is hard not to see the remnants of the past! One cannot help but wonder how magnificent the city would have been in its heyday, if it can evoke such an awe when most of the city is in ruins!
Bang opposite the Virupaksha temple, is a large open space now used as makeshift stalls and car parking! There, are a series of a colonnaded ruins extending almost a kilometer to the east! These are called the bazaar street, and housed the markets related to the temple activities in the past! They were also said to have housed the residences of the nobles of the era!

Beyond the Nandi Mandapa lies a small trail that leads to the little less frequented, but very imposing ruins of the Achyutaraya Temple!!

The temple, located at the Southern end of the grand Courtesan Street is a sight to behold from up the Matanga Hill from where one gets to appreciate the massive scale of the street and the beauty of the temple from an unconventional viewing angle! The temple, although in ruins does make one wonder about the glorious past!

What remains of a glorious past!
Walking out of the main gopuram of the Achyutaraya temple, one encounters a rather massive open area with large pillared platforms on either side. This is the Courtesan Street. (The temple is accessed via this large pathway, with the trail through the Nandi mandapa being the alternate route!)
In the peak of its time, the place was a thriving market of gems, pearls, ivory etc. For some reason, this place was called the Sule Bazaar (The Prostitute’s Market). About 500m long and 50m wide, the market was once thronged by merchants far and wide. (Source: http://www.Hampi.in )

Courtesan’s Street
The Courtesan’s Street, at its Northern end meets the Kampa Bhupa’s path (the riverside path. Source: hampi.in), along the Tungabhadra river. There are the Varahaswami temple and the Ranganatha swamy temple nearby.
A small trail from near the Achyutharaya temple leads up the Matanga hill on the Eastern side. There is another path on the Western side as well. The western route seems to be used more often. While the easter side is doable, there are a lot of overgrowth due to minimal movement!
Walking along the outer couryard of the Achyutaraya temple, I met up with a fellow backpacker who was also doing a solo trip to Hampi. We decided to explore the places together from there on! Next up, was Mathanga Hill!

Matanga Hill is one of the holy places described in the Ramayana! It is said to be the place where Sage Matanga was, and had given protection to Sugreeva, the King of Kishkinta! There is a Veeerabhadra temple atop the hill!
Although it was close to dusk, we dint quite wait for the sunset, although we were at the right spot, since it was quite hazy, and we had to visit the Vithala temple next! Getting down from the Mathanga Hill from the western side, we made our way back up along the Nandi mandapa, and then on to the Courtesan’s Street to get to the river path towards the Vithala Temple!

  Way to Vithala Temple
Along the rocky path that leads to the Vithala temple, are a series of boulders that form a natural cave!
It is said that one of these caves were used by Sugreeva, the King of Kishkinta. It is also said that he used this place to hide the jewels which Sita dropped when she was abducted by Ravana and that Surgeeva met with Lord Rama and Lakshmana near these caves! A number of footprints seen on the floor of these caves are said to be that of Lord Rama and Lakshmana!

A short walk from here is the Vithala temple. The King’s balance and the Purandaradasa mandapam are enroute!

Vithala Temple
The Vittala Temple, is one of the most iconic structures of Hampe, made even more famous by the induction of the Stone Chariot in the Rs 50 currency note! The presiding deity of the temple is Vittala, a form of Lord Vishnu. This form of the Lord was worshipped here as the main deity of the cattle herds!
Built in the 15th Century, the templs has grand hallways and a large pavilions and temples, besides the afore mentioned stone chariot! Outside the temple, are a series of colonnaded structure, the Vittala market place and the ruins of an ancient Shiva temple. The temple itself opens out into a kilometer long passageway, probably large enough for Chariots. There are remnants of a large tank along this passageway!
Entering the temple from the Eastern gateway, one is greeted by the Stone Chariot. This chariot is rumoured to have had the stone wheels rotating about its axis! The Chariot houses the shrine for Garuda, the vaahana for Lord Vishnu!
Tumblr media
Stone chariot! Note the rear wheel, where the gap between the axle and the hub is more on the bottom than on the top, indicating that the wheel was indeed free to rotate about the axle! It is also believed that the structure was painted with natural/mineral dyes!
Unfortunately for us, the temple was very crowded, thanks to the Independence day weekend, and the day being a Sunday! Unlike the Achyutaraya temple, we could not have the Vittala temple for ourselves! Greedy, indeed!
Tumblr media
A smaller mandapa within the Vittala Temple complex!
A little beyond the Chariot is the main building, the Maha mandapa! Ornately carved, the building is famous for its Musical Pillars! These are small series of stone pillars carved out of a monolithic block! Each of these smaller pillars when tapped emit a specific musical note! This stands testimony to the fine Architectural skills of the craftsmen and at the same time, the level of understand and the cohesion of arts that was possibly prevalant at the time!

Ornately carved columns, depicting the mythical creature, YAAZHI. The sculptures of this creature is found across south India, with similarfeatures,  making one wonder if they actually existed!

The morning after only meant one thing for Nefe and M’Baku. They had to head back to campus but they didn’t want to get up. He was so warm to her and she was just like he imagined. Her skin was smooth like chocolate; her curves were dangerous, her smile was to die for and her whole personality was alluring.
M’Baku was everything and more that Nefe needed. He was ambitious; his voice could stop a crowd in their tracks, his demeanor was commanding, his body was magnificent and his whole being was just comforting. These two were meant for each other and no one could tear them apart.
“My queen. We have to get up.” He whispered in her ear, causing her body to hum in need. Nefe couldn’t fathom how he would do so little, to make her body feel warm. Cranking one eye open, she glanced up at him softly with a sleepy smile.
“Mmm. My king.” She hummed in bliss, turning over in heavy duvet that hid part of of ample breasts as she sat up to kiss him lightly.
“Do we have to leave New Orleans? We could just stay here and not go back to Shreveport. No school...no classes...no Melanie...no Sean..” the way she spoke, upon placing kisses all on his face, caused him to smile happily.
“Yes we do. Our friends are waiting for us to be back. Besides we have the rest of the week to, consummate the relationship.” The kiss he gave her was breathtaking, it shook her very core. Awakening her inner lioness to pounce on him.
“We’ll arrive late if you keep this up, my love. We’ll miss the pep rally.”
“Ugh fine.” Getting up from her spot, she sashayed to the bathroom to get ready.
“I love you!”
“I know!”
-Back at the school-
The drive back seemed to drag on but the vibe stayed the same, as it did when they arrived.
Upon unloading the car, Nefe was notified by the girls about a sleepover in her dorm. A major redo of the previous weekend.
“Looks like the girls want to catch up with me.” Nefe replies with a swiftness, M’Baku smirked.
“Funny. The boys want me to meet them at the quad, for guys night.” Once he showed the text, she knew what both groups had planned.
“They want us to talk about our trip. Creative bastards. Well love, I’ll see you in the morning.” Placing a kiss on his sweet lips, he held her close and it caused her to giggle.
“You’re so tempting, it’s intoxicating. But we have to meet them or they’ll chew us both out.” He proclaimed and she groaned in frustration.
“Alright, alright. Well, I’ll see you in the morning.”
-moments later: Nefe’s POV-
“You mean to tell me, you went all the way with M’Baku and you managed to get up?” Nakia couldn’t believe it. My whole girl gang, couldn’t fathom that I actually got to spend time with M’Baku, without Melanie messing it up.
“Girl it was everything. The rhythm; the vibes, the jazz, the food, his body on mine. Mine on his. Just pure poetry in motion.” I couldn’t describe it any other way. He really was an amazing man and I enjoyed the weekend we spent together.
“He put it down huh? Damn I knew you needed it and deserved every minute of it.” With the clink of our glasses, Okoye gave me a short wink.
“So when’s the wedding?” Nattie Joked a bit, causing a light chuckle to escape from my full lips. I chucked a pillow at her before going to my vanity.
It was getting late and I was needing to get ready for bed. My phone had been vibrating for a good minuet till I answered it.
‘College weekend and prank week is coming soon. Guess who's coming to visit?!’ Love the siblings!’ I received a text from the group chat we formed before I had left for school. Keeping in touch with them was what we had made sure to do first and foremost.
“Holy shit, It is college visit weekend. Plus prank week, oh I can use my siblings for this.” A sinister grin grew on my face at an evil plot forming in my head.
“Uh oh. She’s got that vindictive gleam in her eye. Something's up.” Nattie chimes in with a curious smile.
“Something is afoot, ladies. My siblings are doing a college visit this week, along with the prank of the semester before spring break. Wanna help?” I grabbed my five star notebook and my best mechanical pencil.
“Prank week you say? Oh this outta be good. I know just the targets.” This time Okoye has a sinister look on her face. This was going to be good.
-M’Baku’s POV-
“My dude. How was the trip? We know it was good because the curves on Nefe-” Erik was about to go on a tangent, full of Hennessy in his system, till I gave him that look for him to stop while he was ahead.
“I’ll tell you, if you keep your mouth shut”
“Deal.” Erik day next to T’Challa who’s just got done texting Nattie.
“I heard y’all had more fun than you originally planned” T’Challa chimed in, taking a taking out of his burger.
Settling down with the boys, I had to think back to the nights Nefe and I didn’t even wanna leave the room. It felt like it was our honeymoon. If only we can get to that part, because I can’t see myself being with anyone else but Nefe.
“Man, it was great. Just, everything I expected to come out of the trip. We talked all night, did what grown folks do and it just made my year to finally get some time with her.” Many men wouldn’t express their feelings like this, but Nefertiti makes me feel different and free. Great Hanuman I am in love with this woman.
“I’d say you’re in love bro, welcome to the club.” With an encouraging shoulder tap from Erik, I gave him a gentle smile and nodded in triumph.
“The great gorilla has found his Queen after all. Or has she been there this whole time?” T’Challa asked.
“She’s always been there. I was just too blind to see it.” T’Challa had his moments where he had wise word aid wisdom, along with tacky misunderstandings but that made him human.
I was truly blinded by the fact that I never saw Nefe more than a friend. The moment Sean, and Melanie, came into our live was when we both realized that we needed each other.
As my phone went off, to break the silence, I noticed the picture and became excited once more.
“Little brother. What brings you to calling me?” I answered the phone and the boys got excited themselves.
Zaire had a good standing friendship with T’Challa and Erik back in Wakanda. He was well mannered and structured but didn’t want to the throne, so he’s my financial adviser did when I take the throne.
“Well big brother, Aliyah and I are coming down to Louisiana for college visit. She mentioned something about prank week as well. We’ll be there sometime this week.” The tone in his voice was chipper and full of excitement. Spending time with my siblings was what I’ve been missing lately and I couldn’t wait for it.
“Sounds good to me. Oh and for prank week, I know just what I have in mind for you both.” The smirk that etched my face, made Erik and T’Challa do the same.
-Melanie’s POV-
Just as I was about to go welcome M’Baku back home, I noticed the smell of Chanel No.5 in the air and it was Nefe being back too. I was hoping he’d left her in the swamps.
Out of disgust, I continued my path towards M’Baku’s room, knocking gently.
“Hey- oh hell nah. M’Baku, you got company.” Erik rolled his eyes and stood in the doorway, watching like a hawk. Why couldn’t he just mind his own business?
“Can we talk? In private?” I eyed Erik down with a snarl, he shrugged.
“Anything you can say to me, you can say in front of them.” M’Baku arched a brow and it made me even more annoyed.
“Whatever. Anyway I just wanted to welcome you back, and take you out tomorrow night. As a welcome home gift.” Tracing my finger down his chest, he grabbed it and shoved me off. Well that’s a new one, no one's ever denied me before.
“I can’t. I already have plans with my girlfriend. I’m sure you’ve met her? Have a nice night Melanie. Boys I’ll see you later as well.” Waving us all off, he went back inside his room, leaving me there. I watched as his two best friends walked away, further down the hall.
“She has nothing on me. I am the queen and two can play that game.” Stomping off back towards my dorm hall, I had a plan forming in motion. Prank week is gonna be one hell of a ride.

Trinidad & Tobago - Carribean dreams...
I am so ‘vex’ that I won't be ‘liming’ in this beautiful place any more. I have been one lucky person to have been able to come here and hang with a local for almost a week. Jasmine has shown me her Trinidad and for that I am truly grateful. I have eaten so many local foods and they have all been fantastic. I have impressed the locals no end with my love of pepper sauce. The food here is tasty, spicy, and pretty much specific to this island. ‘Nah boy’, I am so very much enamoured with this country! One of my friends asked me if I had posted photos of the food. Truth be told, I don’t have a lot of pics, its not the most photogenic, and I seriously just wanted to eat it! I have partaken in the local speciality of doubles, with ‘plenty’ I might add - for those unaware that is with extra hot sauce and/or the mango bone that is infused with more pepper. Doubles is made with 2 baras filled with a curry channa (chick peas), it originally started as a breakfast food, progressing to be an anytime of the day food. It’s nutritious, tasty, and sold at street side vendors everywhere. Apparently even pizza and KFC taste better over here. This I can now say I agree with. Not sure if the food tastes better, or if its adding the ketchup, mustard, and pepper sauce that assists with the taste upgrade.....
Tumblr media
Jas took me to the home of street food a little town called St James, and made sure I got to have saheena, (seriously amazing spicy little deep fried spinachy deliciousness ) as well as alloo pie...amongst other things. The locals only really eat out at restaurants on special occasions so that meant Jas cooked for me a lot of the time, and wow, just wow. I loved the chicken curry (brown), smoked herring, baigan choka, salt fish, home made roti, the fabulous goat curry.... I could rave on, but google Trinidadian food and you’ll understand. Jas lives out in the ‘country’ to the South of Port of Spain, the capital. We spent one evening heading around to some of the local rum bars. Rum bars are everywhere here. Beer is cold and cheap (and made here - love the Stag and the Carib!). I got to meet a few of the locals. Over here they will buy you a drink even for something as simple as the fact that they had to order over you slightly. At the bar. They loved to meet the ‘white girl from Austalia’, as out here they dont see a lot like me... The good thing is none of it was them just trying it on with the foreigner. These are genuinely lovely, polite, caring people. I had a dance off with some girls from Venezuela, and ended up drinking way more drinks then I paid for, eating (they sell bar snacks and’cutters’ only at the rum shops) some tasty wontons at one place, and some really tasty fried chicken at another. We then got some free food from another lovely local who bought us a drink, and also then brought us across some Souse and Corn soup from his food stall (across the road from the rum shop). Anyway I can now say I have tried Souse, not sure I’d eat it again, it was flavourful, but pigs trotters in broth with onion and cucumber is not on my list of things to eat again! I think I have decided that I need to come back to Aus and start my own Trini food store, I think it’d be a huge hit. Love the local beers. Love the rum here. Jas made sure I tasted the Puncheon rum - 75 % and you never get a hangover or upset stomach... I wanted to bring some home, but alas no room in the suitcase! One of the biggest things, I was not aware that this is the home where Angostura bitters is bottled. It was first created in the town called Angostura in Venezuela by a German surgeon stationed in Venezuela, originally produced there between 1824 - 1830. In 1875, the plant was moved to Trinidad and that’s where it’s secret recipe is still produced today.
One of the main religions here is Hindu, they have a giant (85 feet - 26m) statue of Lord Hanuman Murti located in the grounds of Dattatreya Yoga. The statue is the second tallest in the world, and the tallest one in the western hemisphere. When we pulled up onsite there was one man looking after the bookstore who allowed us to enter the grounds and take photos. We weren't allowed to enter the temple/yoga centre as we weren't appropriately dressed. The gentleman then showed us the book explaining how the statue had been built and answered all my gazillion questions. It was like having our own private tour! Jas then took me down the road a little further to show me the temple in the sea. This temple was originally constructed by hand 1947 -52 by Sewdass Sadhu an immigrant from India. It has since been added to, and tidied up, but it's an amazing place, and a site of pilgrimage for Hindus. It's also one of the designated locations for Hindus to perform the funeral pyre. Hindu religion requires that the dead are burned near water and a holy place.

Brian Lara is still HUGE here. He is a home town Trini boy so I completely understand. Cricket is massive, and the new Brian Lara stadium is a huge landmark. They had a cricket game on when I was here (Trinidad vs Jamaica) but they had sold out the tickets otherwise we would have gone.
Tumblr media
I spent a day at the beautiful Maracas beach, located on the northern part of Trini. On the way there we stopped at the lookout and had a quick look at the food stalls. I got to try some ‘Chow’, a garlicky spicy way of preserving such things as Pineapple, apple, mango, cucumber... its yummy and not too spicy and I really appreciated the stall holder giving me a taste ( and Jas’s friend Isabelle for buying some of the pineapple one). Maracas beach is a favourite with the locals and its a thing to do to have a ‘bake and shark’ when you go to the beach. Betcha cant guess what I had... Can I say amazing (again!!) You not only get your bake (which is a deep fried Roti) You get beautiful fresh deep fried shark fillet inside it, then you go to a buffet like area and add as many of the additions as you want . Yep, of course I added a bit of EVERYTHING . I had to taste it all. Seriously that thing was amazing. BTW I do taste everything first before adding pepper sauce... pepper sauce heightens the flavours. Jas’s friend Isabelle got her son in law to give us a shout out on the radio station he worked at ( they had it playing at the beach), so ‘Karen from Australia’ is now Trini Famous... love it!!
Tumblr media
Jasmine took me out to the Pitch lake, in La Brea, and I’ll admit, I had no idea what it was ( I thought it was a lake!!) Anyway, some how we ended up with a colourful local as our personal guide, he was You tube famous and has apparently featured on David Attenboroughs visit to the lake. I have to sit and edit my ‘documentary’ when I’m back in Australia, it’ll be awesome.. I promise. Suffice to say the lake is the most amazing tar pit. Seriously amazing tar pit. The roads leading into the area are all like travelling over mini crazy hills due to the impact of the tar movements in the area. You have to use an authorised guide on the site, which is fair enough as a wrong step could see you disappear forever into the tar... literally... Trinidads pitch lake is the largest natural deposit of asphalt in the world (estimated to hold about 10 million tonnes) Its covers about 100 acres and is about 250 feet deep. There is a cool legend involving the origin of the lake the involves a hummingbird (I like the story), Historically Walter Raleigh re-discovered the lake on his expedition there in 1595. It has that charming rotten egg smell, and the mud and sulphur water apparently have healing properties. Locals were there immersing themselves in some of the pools while we were there. As we didnt have swim suits we had to settle with getting coated in the mud on our legs, and for me, also my face...lol!!! I didnt get a chance to put it on myself, out guide was very keen to smear it all over my face... (and shirt and hair.. etc...). Rinsing it, after it had set, was a whole other process involving splashing what looked Iike green water all over my face (and legs), all I wanted to do was rinse my face with some fresh water afterwards - and it took over an hour or so until I finally got somewhere to do it. Let’s not talk about how much scrubbing it required later that night to get the last bits of our skin! A great fun day though, made all the better for our colourful guide! I have had a crash course in some of the Trinidadian slang/words and between that and their accents I am sometimes lost in a conversation... (definitely accents particularly when you are trying to enter the country and the border control guy is talking to you and you have to continually say, sorry what??? ) I’m a lot better now!!

Jas couldn’t make it over to Tobago as she had work scheduled at her house that she needed to be around for. So I decided to head over for a night, hire a car, and see what I could see. Its literally a 20 min flight over (only costs about 50 US return) FYI 24 hrs isn’t really enough to see everything. I didnt get to the water fall or national park. I had headed down to Store bay beach when I first arrived with instructions to try the curry crab, conch and dumplings in Tobago (its their local specialty, amongst a few other things). Have to say I liked the conch, crab was over cooked and dry, and dumplings were kind of chewy. The ‘provisions’ that I got with it were really nice though - Plantain, Potato, green banana, avocado ..I would have liked to have tried another outlet to give a second opinion, but didnt have the time. I did get to the beautiful Pigeon Park, a natural reserve area, filled with some shops, water sports hire, beautiful beaches and glorious spot to watch the sunset. I also got out to the Fort of King George in Scarborough hiking up the giant hill to take in the glorious views. Hilariously there was a traffic hold up on my way there due to some goats being herded along the road. Island time boy. I would have to say, as much as its a part of the one country, Tobago island is completely different to Trinidad. Its a lot more touristy for a start, it has more servicible beaches. The roads are not as pot holed as Trinidad. The people are still lovely, but you get the tourist scouters who are looking to sell you on anything they can. Its a beautiful place and I’m so glad I got to go across and visit. As always, I can always go back!

My time in the Caribbean has come to a close. (9-16 Oct). What an adventure. I have had a fabulous time, and recommend to anyone to come here and see this place, taste the food and meet the people for themselves. The country has their own issues with government corruption which impacts the improvement of infrastructure like roads etc. And there are warnings around safety as there are elements involved in crime that impact locals and tourists alike. This just makes Trinidad Tobago, not unlike a lot of other countries that I have visited on my adventures. It just means the more prepared you are to be open to new things, different ways of doing things, different cultures. The more you are aware of your own safety, and that of your belongings , the more you can avoid crime. Crime can impact you anywhere in the world, countries like this dont have it any more or less than others, it just seems to be in the media more....

Our Love In Color XVII
A/N: The reader is black and plus sized.
Warnings: Plot progression, fluff
Translation: yam ivu-my rose
Your palms were sweaty as you looked around the room, nervously. M’Baku grabbed your hand and kissed it. “Relax. Take a deep breath.” He said. You tried to steady yourself as you realized that you could hinder M’Baku’s performance in the meeting. You were starting to wish that you had declined to be in this meeting.
“How long do you think this will go?” you asked.
“Some meetings can go as long as an hour. I don’t anticipate that today. If you don’t want to give input today, just watch and see how things go.” M’Baku said.
“What if I’m asked?” you said.
“Yam ivu, relax. Stop worrying.” He said. “You will be fine. We will be fine.” He took your hand and kissed each knuckle. Chief M’Bako walked in with Niyi.
“I hope everyone has had a good day.” M’Bako said. “And I’m sure all of you are aware, but we have a new guest with us today.”
You looked around the room, rolling your shoulders back and giving a warm smile to the other council members. “This is Y/N. She’ll be taking part in the council from now on. I’m sure everyone has been kept up to speed about our new developments in regards to…my son and his love life…or whatever you want to call it. So, let’s welcome her.” M’Bako sighed.
M’Baku shot him a look and a grimace, ultimately shaking his head. You took his hand to bring him back to reality. The meeting started and you watched M’Baku lead it with such a strong demeanor and talk about the politics of the Jabari. You remembered reading certain things from Niyi’s journal and drawing conclusions in your head. You kept up with the meeting and felt confidence, his confidence. He answered questions effortlessly and keep the meeting at a good pace. You fought the urge to smile so proudly at your sweetheart at work. It was at one point, he looked over to you and gave you a smirk.
“Young Y/N.” You looked up to see M’Bako glaring at you. You would have expected for this chill to go down your spine but, instead you didn’t feel phased. His glare didn’t make you shake. You didn’t feel nervous. You cross one leg over the other and glared back at him, matching his expression. “You work in the gardens, doing whatever your job entails. We’ve had an issue about whether we should expand on our croplands.”
“We aren’t sure if we should.” A council member said.
“Well, we have farmed on those lands for decades. We’ve been able to keep the land fertile but…” you started. “Our population has grown as we’ve mentioned and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down. We have plenty of lumber yards but, our second-best product is our agriculture. Shouldn’t we dedicate more land and effort to that? If we would open a new garden that creates more jobs and more produce to sell. Of course, that means more revenue all the way around.”
Council members began to nod their heads and whisper. M’Bako appeared unphased by your apparent success among the council. “Yes but, we’ve operated on those lands for 50 years. It’s blessed land. Hanuman has always ensured that we as a people will be taken care of. We won’t have to move.”
“True. But, the lands before were farmed on for 55 years. During that time, the fruits and vegetables decreased in size and lost taste. Herbs that were harvested were less potent and medicines didn’t work as well at that time as history has shown. It’s a vast field and we try to let one plot rest during a season while we use the other. But, why not maximize on what we have? The current land, if history repeats, has five years left on its soil, if that. The previous lands took 20 years to regain its vitality. A few of my co-workers speculated that we could potentially use it again. Restarting an irrigation system there wouldn’t be hard. We could test that land or use the empty plot in near the west village. The small stream there could facilitate water. That’s if the council sees fit.” You said.
M’Baku was looked at you, holding a hand to his mouth and fighting a smile. He didn’t expect you to come with so much information and facts. Before, you were nervous and fighting to not sweat. Here you were, speaking in such a loud voice to match his. Your eyes meeting each member as you spoke, daring them and making them pay attention to you. It even turned him on a bit.
Niyi wasn’t going to conceal how proud she was. She smiled from the Chief’s side amazed at how powerfully you spoke. You surprised her, thinking this wouldn’t be the day you actually take part. M’Bako looked away from you and to the floor, nodding. Silently conceding to you but, wouldn’t verbally commend you. You kept your composure as you looked around the room at other members.
“We will look into what your insight and make the right decision.” The council member said.
“And the fact that your father had nothing to say afterward!” You exclaimed. M’Baku looked around and held a finger to you, reminding you to keep quiet. “I didn’t think I could do it. And of course, I know agriculture but, hearing you go on was empowering to me. Usually, I’d be nervous and pent up, but this was different. I felt more comfortable. And I don’t think it’s was because of gardening. Oh, M’Baku. It felt so good.”
“I’m well aware of how you feel.” M’Baku said, keeping one hand wrapped around your waist. He motioned you along and pulled you into his bedroom. “I’m so proud of you.”
“You were great in there, too.” You said. “I do believe I have you to thank for my success though.”
“Oh, having you there put me at ease as well, yam ivu.” He said, pulling you in and giving you a kiss. You kissed back, caressing his cheek. M’Baku held you close and your heart fluttered. You got that warm feeling again but, it was more intensified. You moaned in his mouth as he deepened the kiss. He pushed you further into the room and you gasped as you bent your legs and you met by the mattress and fur comforter.
“M’Baku.” You moaned as he kissed your neck.
“How do you get this off?” M’Baku asked, pulling at the tie of your corset.
“Here.” You said, sitting up and undoing the back. M’Baku went back to kissing you as he unfastened the short fur cover on his back and his belt. You pulled away, taking M’Baku’s wrists to stop him.
“What if someone walks in?” you asked.
M’Baku looked back at the door and groaned. “I’ll close the door.” M’Baku half-jogged to the double doors while trying to take his shoes off and was about to close them when Niyi came. He kept a crack in to expose only his head.
“Where’s Y/N? You snatched her away so fast I didn’t get to congratulate her.” She said.
“Ahh, she had a sudden headache. She’s laying down for the afternoon.” M’Baku retorted.
“Oh, is she okay?” Niyi said trying to peak in. M’Baku closed the doors more, withdrawing his own head.
“No, she’ll be fine. Just the excitement has gotten to her, she needs rest.” M’Baku said.
“Oh, well. Just bring her to me before she leaves.” Niyi said. M’Baku nodded before watching Niyi walk away. He turned back to you after closing the doors completely. You giggled as he dragged himself back over to the bed.
“Things just keep getting in the way.” M’Baku said, laying down next to you.
You smirked, settling into the comforter and looking at him. “We just have to have patience. We can wait a little while longer.”
M’Baku propped himself up on his elbow and used his other hand to caress your cheek. “I love you.”
“I love you, too.” You said. You leaned in and gave him a kiss. You pulled away and looked around the room. “So, this is your bedroom.”
“Yeah. I’ve had the same bedroom since I was a boy.” M’Baku said looking around.
“Do you move into a new room once you’re Chief?” you asked, pulling lint from his hair.
“I believe so. Why? Would you spend nights with me? Take a part of the closet and leave a few things here.” He said.
“Is this you asking me to move in?” You said.
“No…not necessarily.” He said, playing with your hand. “I’m just saying it would be nice to have you here with me on most days. It would be nice to have dinner with you, wake up next to you, all those other things.”
“So, you want me to move in? Before I’m Chieftess?” you said.
“It would just seem a bit improper for the Chieftess to not sleep under the same roof as the Chief, regardless if they are married or not. Again, it would just be a nice thought. You can tell me no if that’s not what you want.” M’Baku said, shaking his head and looking down into the fur of his comforter.
“You’d be upset if I told you no.” you answered after seeing his display of emotions.
“I’d be disappointed but, I would come to respect your decision.” He said.
“But, I love you.” You sighed. You watched his eyes drop and you pressed your lips together. You got this defeated feeling, like something had given up inside you. However, you knew it was inside him. You scooted closer to him. “I’ll put thought into it. My no isn’t set in stone.”
M’Baku nodded, leaning in a kissing your forehead. You gave a loud yawn. “So about that nap you told your stepmother about?”
M’Baku chuckled and grabbed you by your waist, positioning you almost perfectly on a pillow. His bed smelled like him with a hint of a softer fragrance. You turned on your side, settling in and taking deep breaths. M’Baku draped a spare blanket over you, slightly tucking it into your sides so you were snug. He watched you drift off until your breathing was even and soft.
He marveled at you as he sat on the bed, a peaceful sight. He thought about what it would be like waking up to you every morning. Rolling over and seeing your beautiful face. He eased out of the bed, being gentle and not wanting to wake you. He went over to the large dresser and opened the small box. He sighed thinking to put the ring on your finger now. But, it would be improper to just do it like that. Almost cowardly. But, when would ever be a good time? M’Baku sighed feeling like it was going to take a lot more work now to get what he would want.

LAY ME DOWN
pairing: m’baku x reader
summary: she found love in a king, and he found love in a woman that practically landed on his doorstep.
word count: 4,474
WARNINGS: mentions of abuse; mentions of blood; slight smut.
note: THIS IS A LONG FIC. KEEP THAT IN MIND.
masterlist | request
Her feet had gone numb as she ran through the snow-covered mountains. Her chest heaved and her skin burned, but her mind told her to keep going. Her heartbeat hadn’t slowed down at all, not since she started running, and she knew it was a matter of time before she would pass out.
She had only a few more miles left in her before she would give in, before she would stop hearing the footsteps and shouts that insisted on her capture. Her stomach started to cramp, and her ribs felt like they were cracking under the weather; her lungs were beginning to feel overworked, doing less and less for her.
She suddenly felt sick, like she would need to puke. But she couldn’t – it would slow her down, allow them to get closer to her. Her feet, long numb, started to ache in a way they had never before, and her fingers were turning blue. She couldn’t see her own breath – in fact, she had stopped feeling her breath at all.
Finally, her body stopped, and she collapsed into the snow, eyes still open, but blurred. She could see the bruises on her arm, see the frost running up her skin. And then, with one last blink, she couldn’t see anything anymore.
Shouts and roars had drawn the guards’ attention. They stopped conversing, staring out at the snow and looking for the sources. It took only seconds to see the band of men running with spears and knives (they weren’t exactly quiet).
Immediately, one ran for M’Baku, and the rest ran toward the approaching men. They stayed quiet and out of sight, but they watched as the men ran toward a fallen, snow-covered body. With no knowledge of the situation, but a duty to protect the Jabari kingdom, the men came from the forest and began chanting.
The crowd, covered in snow and red, frost-bitten skin, went silent as they were surrounded. The Jabari guard readied their spears, all of them pointed toward the man that stood in the front. “What is your purpose here?” One of them called to him, stepping forward and keeping his weapon steady.
“To get her,” he replied. He was not Wakandan, that was easy to tell. But he may have hailed from another country – he was too primitive looking to be anything else.
A crunch of snow came from behind them, steps commanding and a grunt escaping the man they belonged to whenever he was on the outside of his guards’ circle. “You will not,” he said, voice low and threatening. “You will leave, and you will not come back.”
“She is our mission,” he said, staring down at the woman that looked near-dead, “we bring her back, alive. That was what we were told, so that’s what we’re going to do.”
M’Baku looked down at the woman. She was frail, littered in bruises and frost-bite. Her feet were a dark blue, her fingers on the verge of it, and she looked as though she had been running for days. “No.”
“No?” The man said, stepping closer, “who are you to say no?”
M’Baku looked up at the man, a challenging glint in his eyes, “She is on Jabari land, therefore I decide what happens to her. You will not take her, she is not yours. Turn, leave, and do not come back.” His order was just as serious as the last, and the guard around him took a step forward, intent on killing the men if they defied the Lord.
“I don’t care what land she is on,” the man said, “I just care about getting paid. I take her, I get out of your…” the man paused, looking around the area and grimacing, “land, and you never see me again.”
M’Baku growled, not in the mood to make a bargain with this animal. “Get out.”
He stomped his foot, snow flying from the spot, and the Jabari men began taking larger steps toward the other men. The few that stood behind the talking man began to flee, before he was left alone. “Get. Out.”
The man shook his head before turning around and running after the rest of his men, disappearing over a hill. M’Baku rolled his shoulders and his eyes before kneeling down to the woman that got nearer and nearer to death every second. Silently, he picked her up, holding her body with as much gentleness as possible.
They walked back into the Jabari land, and M’Baku requested that his men find out as much about her as possible. He carried her battered body to the doctor’s hut, insisting that they do as much as they could do to heal her.
She was awake and aware within a few days, helping the doctors out whenever she could – of course, they appreciated the help, even if all they knew about her was her name and that she knew a little about the medical field.
M’Baku had come down one of those days, watching her as she worked with a doctor and helped categorize everything. Everytime she looked at the doctor and smiled, something in him began to tingle, and he found himself smiling – even if he’d never admit it.
“I see you’ve gotten better,” he said, startling the woman.
“O-Oh,” she said when she turned around, “yes, Lord M’Baku, I have.”
“Please, just M’Baku is fine,” he said, kindly, walking up to her. The doctor excused himself, claiming that he had some “other things” to attend to. The woman silently cursed him, and M’Baku nearly chuckled at the small interaction.
“Apologies, M’Baku. I do want to thank you, though,” she said, looking up at him after resting against the counter.
“For?”
“Pulling me from the snow, of course,” she said, laughing slightly.
It was refreshing to see someone act so casual with him; most of the time, everyone acted as though they were in the presence of Hanuman himself, with no more emotion than a brick wall. “Ah, yes, of course.”
They stared at each other for a moment before M’Baku finally said, “May I ask who you are?”
“Y/n, Y/n L/n,” she said, her tone professional, as if she had prepared for this moment for days on end.
“No, no,” he said, “not your name – I already know your name. I want to know who you are.”
She stiffened, swallowing as she stumbled over her words, “I– uh, well,” she paused and breathed in, “I come from outside of Wakanda.”
“Why were you running from those men? Why were they after you?” He leaned on the counter next to her, crossing his arms as he listened.
“See, that’s where things get a little… complicated,” she admitted, turning to look at him. “It’s a long story.”
“I have the time.”
She nodded, raising her eyebrows as if she hadn’t been expecting his patience, “Okay. So. There’s a man in the country I come from, a man who deserves nothing in life, yet has it all.” She was looking down at her feet as she spoke, as if she were remembering things and having to relive them, “He found me one day, on the side of the street. I was – and am, now – homeless. He brought me in with the false hope of giving me a better life, of giving me anything I wanted at any point.”
“What was the catch?” M’Baku knew there was a catch – there was always a catch.
“I had to marry him,” she said, cringing. “So, of course, I did. I didn’t see any reason not to; I didn’t question the situation, I didn’t think about a reality in which he could’ve been lying. I just saw an opportunity to escape the hell I was living and finally have something meaningful in life.
“It only took a day or so to get me into his house. I was amazed at the time; I didn’t understand how one person could have so much. The walls were littered with paintings and shelves were decorated with ancient, authentic vases and symbolic plates and necklaces. It was beautiful to me. And I fell in love with it.”
“What about him?” M’Baku was beyond interested in her tale, but his heart hurt as he awaited the explanation for the bruises.
“He… I couldn’t tell you if I ever fell in love with him. I know he wasn’t in love with me. The only reason he was interested in me was for what I offered… physically.” A shudder ran through her spine and she cringed again.
Something in M’Baku began to rise – but he couldn’t tell what it was; it was red and white at the same time, a kind of burning he’d never really experienced.
“Every night, he would come home drunk, angry, shouting about something he saw or something I did or didn’t do. I never knew how to respond; I thought that, in a relationship, you yield to the man, you show submission. I always thought that it calmed their nerves. But it meant nothing to him.
“After a few loud insults and maybe a slap or two, he would pin me underneath him and force me to pleasure him. I didn’t… I didn’t do anything to stop it, and I know I should have, but it wouldn’t have helped. Nothing was going to help that man.”
“Why did you stay?” M’Baku asked, pushing off the counter and standing in front of her, lifting her chin with his finger. “Why did you let him do that to you?”
“Because I knew no better,” her eyes, big and doe-like, did something to the bigger man that he just couldn’t explain. “And it never got better, even though he would say that he was sorry the next morning, and that he didn’t mean what he said. He would use excuses over and over, saying that he loved me and that he wanted me to be around.
“And I think that’s why I stayed. Because I believed him. A part of me thought he was telling the truth, even if he wasn’t. I told myself that he would get better, and it just never did. Instead it escalated,” she shrugged, looking to the right and biting her lip, her eyes burning just a bit, “he just got more physical. He would get mad and he… he hit me, he threw me around and he handled me carelessly.
“And still, every time, he would apologize, say that he didn’t mean it. Say that he would make it better and he wouldn’t do it again. And I still believed him. And then, one day, he hit me so hard he knocked me out. I woke up with a concussion, a sprained shoulder and bruises all over my body. So I ran.”
M’Baku felt relief wash over his body as she came close to the end of her story.
She regained her composure as she sighed, her breath still shaky, “It took me a couple days of running to get here. He’d sent out that battalion to come after me and bring me back, I guess. But I wasn’t going back. I’m not going back there. I refuse to.”
“Do you have any family there?” He asked, looking down at this insanely strong woman.
“No,” she said quietly, “haven’t for a long time. I have no reason to go back to that country.”
“Then you shall stay here,” M’Baku said, watching her look up at him with a little bit of surprise. “You will stay with me, at least until you choose to do otherwise.”
She smiled, and then it was settled.
And that’s how she got here, laying in M’Baku’s bed and staring up at the ceiling. That conversation had happened weeks ago, and since then, they had only gotten closer. She came to truly feel something for the man, but she couldn’t exactly place what it was.
She wasn’t in love, that she was sure of, but she did have something along the lines of a deep crush on him. He was kind, gentle and patient with her in a way that the man she ran from never was. He was everything she could ever need, everything she could ever want.
If she closed her eyes, she could see his smiling face; the gap between his two front teeth and the glint in his dark brown eyes – it truly made him beautiful. His towering height and gentle touch always fascinated her, as well — how man could be so beastly, so large and menacing, but then touch her and act as everything that contrasted that.
M’Baku was protective over her, too. If another man even so much as looked at her weird, he was either summoned to speak with his King or glared at with so much anger, he should’ve set on fire. It was both amusing and endearing, honestly.
A smile broke out on her face as her thoughts wandered from his mannerisms to the nights they spent alone, talking and laughing and confessing. He told her so much, trusted her with everything, and she was the same with him. He knew practically everything about her life – from how she became homeless to what her favorite constellation was. She knew everything about him – from his fears as a King to his favorite noise to make when intimidating newly-enlisted guard members.
She laughed to herself as she remembered the day that M’Baku scared the living hell out of a man named N’Gani, making the poor man nearly pee himself in fear. He had snuck up behind him, then yelled at him in their native language, and growled as the man turned around and screeched.
What he did was something extremely basic, but N’Gani had never experienced something like the King yelling in his ear. Now, every time M’Baku saw him around, he would say the same thing he yelled in the man’s ear and they would both laugh about it (though N’Gani seemed less amused).
She sighed as once more, M’Baku’s smile consumed her thoughts and his laugh echoed.
No, she wasn’t in love, but she was damn near close to it.
Heavy steps from outside drew her attention from the ceiling and her thoughts, and she sat up to see M’Baku coming into the room. He looked stressed, eyebrows furrowed and full lips pulled into a slight grimace.
Y/n stood up from his bed, walking over to him and looking him in the eye. There was an anger she had only seen once or twice swimming around his irises, and she reached up to cup his face in her hands. He relaxed, but not as much as she would have liked to see, and he let out a heavy huff.
“M’Baku,” she said, eyes searching his own for anything, “talk to me. Tell me what is on your mind.”
He closed his eyes and sighed, “They keep coming back.”
“What? Who?”
“The men who tried to take you,” he whispered, opening his eyes and grabbing your waist with a gentle touch. His fingers were hot on your exposed midriff, seeing as you were only in a fur cropped-top and a skirt – a style that was common among the Jabari people.
“Oh,” was all you said, fingers now only lightly resting against his face. “Why?”
“They want to,” he growled, his lips scrunching together for just a second, “they want to take you away from here. They said they wouldn’t stop coming until you came with them.”
She closed her eyes and let her hands fall to his shoulders, “How long have they been coming?”
“A few weeks,” he said lowly, as if he knew where this was going. “But that means nothing, y/n.”
“I can’t let them keep bothering your tribe because of me,” she said. Her stomach dropped as she whispered those words, and her heartbeat sped up like it had the day she was running, the day she was brought into Jabari hands.
M’Baku’s demeanor immediately changed, and suddenly, he was pressing her to his chest and his forehead was on her’s, “You will never be a bother this tribe, y/n. I will protect you until the day I die.”
There was a moment of silence, a moment of stillness. And then she pressed forward and pushed their lips together. Her hands traveled back to his face and he breathed out as he pushed himself into her. He walked her to the bed, falling on top of her once they were there.
He hadn’t pulled away from her lips, suddenly addicted to her taste. She just wanted to get his armor off, to get to him. It only took a few minutes for them to be in front of each other, bare and exposed. She had scooted back on the bed, so her head rested on a pillow as she stared up at M’Baku.
He was propped up above her, all of his weight resting on his forearms. Her fingers danced across his chest, then his stomach, falling in the divots of his abs. She saw something sincere, sweet, loving in his eyes. And suddenly, she could admit it, she could say she was finally there – she was in love.
“I love you,” she whispered, eyes glancing all over his face.
“Words cannot do justice to how much I love you,” he said quietly, leaning down and peppering kisses along her neck, her collarbone, and further.
It did not take long for them to get to the point where he was rocking in and out of her, keeping his movements smooth and gentle. Her legs were wrapped around his lower back, and she was breathing out and moaning in ecstacy, and he realized then that he would never give this up. He would never let her go without a fight.
Once it was all over, she was asleep against his chest and he was in absolute bliss. Placing a kiss against her head, he let himself fall into the clutches of sleep.
When he woke up the next morning, he was alone in his bed. He paid no mind at first, and then realized that she wasn’t in the room, or the bathroom. Fear settled in as he sat up and looked toward her side of the bed.
It had been made, and it was cold to the touch – she had been gone awhile. He quickly got out of bed, sliding on a pair of shorts and rushing out of the room, yelling for her. Once he was in the main throne room, overlooking all of his tribe, a guard came rushing in after hearing all of his yelling.
He rushed over to the guard, frantically asking where she had gone.
“She left, my Lord,” he said, as if it were obvious, “she went with the men that kept coming.”
“When? When!”
“A few hours ago, sir,” the guard looked terrified and guilty.
“What– why– she,” his voice kept lowering until he wasn’t saying anything, just mouthing words and muttering. His hands were on the back of his head and he was breathing like he had just run a marathon. “We have to find her. Go gather the guards, we have to find her.”
They hadn’t been able to get to her in time. M’Baku had lost her.
It had been a couple weeks since the initial, and nothing had felt right.
He was empty, he felt hollow, like he lost apart of himself whenever she left. Everyday he sat at the throne, expecting to see her walk in with a guard, smiling and running to hug him. And each day, he was met with disappointment.
He could only think of the night he had her, he was with her, as close as humanly possible. He had her in his hands, tangled with himself. That night had been heaven, had been something only Hanuman could have graced upon him.
He just wanted to lay with her, make sure she was okay, make sure that she was treated right. He would never lay a hand on her, never yell at her and belittle her the way that monster had.
An anger had festered up inside the Jabari king, something that was primal and more animalistic than any other anger he had felt before.
He was going to kill that man for taking her, for taking his love.
M’Baku recalled the country she came from, as she had just mentioned it in an offhand remark when she spoke of how beautiful the mountain lands had been and how her home country had paled in comparison to it.
It took a day to get one of his trusted Generals to oversee the throne and any of its concerns while he was would be gone in the search for her. That next morning, he was headed for the Golden city and requesting one of T’Challa’s ships, describing his circumstances.
Of course the Wakandan King obliged, wishing him the best on his trip and asking that the ship not get too torn up – it was simply preferable that they didn’t have to repair all of their technology all the time. M’Baku had chuckled, but only lightly, and agreed.
They were off for her country within the hour, and M’Baku felt that rage building back up in his stomach again. His hands were twitching, gripping his spear and flexing as they came nearer to the damned place.
As soon as he was allowed to exit the ship, he was sprinting out of the hatch, two of his trusted guards following behind him. They were in front on the roof of this man’s ceiling, and it felt almost wrong to be going down stairs and into a hallway of rooms.
M’Baku didn’t care how terrifying it must have been to see a King and two guards standing behind him coming into the hallway, obviously in search of an unlucky someone. A maid had been doing a clean through of the rooms on this floor, and she nearly screamed when she say his towering figure in front of her.
He asked lowly, “Where is he?”
The maid shook her head, obviously unknowing of the man M’Baku spoke of.
“The rich man with all of the paintings and antiques, where is he?” He specified this time, resisting the urge to pick the small woman up.
Her eyes went wide with realization and she pointed down the hall, croaking out a room number. M’Baku nodded at her and walked forward, looking at the room numbers until he spotted the one he needed. He nodded at the door, telling his guards that this was the place.
They didn’t flinch when he leaned back and kicked in the door, busting the lock. The door violently smacked the wall behind it, adding a little unintentional flair as M’Baku walked into the rather large room. It looked to be a house all rolled into a hotel, and he remembered y/n describing all of the paintings and vases and necklaces about the place.
He sent his guards to search the rooms, and he went into a back hallway, looking for what would be a master bedroom. As soon as he neared the door, he heard yelling and then a sick slap. He kicked in the door (another one to add to the list) and looked at the people inside.
There she was, his love, pushed against the wall with the man’s arm against her throat. Her eyes were closed as M’Baku looked her over, and once she opened them, she looked instantly terrified and surprised and the same time.
“Step away from her,” M’Baku ordered loudly, grabbing the attention of his guards throughout the apartment. The man didn’t listen, only turned around and whispered something in her face. She flinched away from him, fingers beginning to rake at his arm.
M’Baku stepped forward and yanked the man away by his shoulder, practically flinging him off of y/n. She sprung off the wall and hugged the menacing-looking man, doing her best to wrap herself around him with his armor in her way. He leaned down just a bit and pressed a kiss to her forehead before whispering that she needed to go with Kayo and B’Rei, his two accompanying guards.
She nodded and rushed to them, Kayo pushing her behind him and B’Rei standing protectively beside him. She watched over their shoulders as M’Baku grabbed her “husband” by his shirt collar and lifted him from the ground.
He looked to be a little dizzy, but not unaware enough to not realize what was happening. “You are done harming her. She is leaving with me. No harm will come to her anymore, not by your hand or mine. I cannot believe you are even allowed to breathe the same air as the rest of the planet.”
He dropped the man and stabbed his leg, just because he was angry enough to do it, and then walked out of the room. He picked her up, just like he had done the day he found her in the snow, and carried her out of the building and into the ship.
The ride back to the Jabari mountainside was short, and once they were there, M’Baku took her to his bedroom. He softly set y/n down, stripping himself of his armor before laying down beside her. He pulled her to his body and he sighed out, finally having his craving for her skin and her touch satiated.
Her fingers began to dance across his torso, sometimes traveling up toward his scruff and other times traveling down past his belly button. Anywhere she went, M’Baku’s muscles quaked, and he felt so vulnerable next to her. He felt vulnerable, but he felt invincible.
“Y/n,” he said quietly, “be my Queen.”
Her fingers stopped and she pushed up on her elbow, staring at M’Baku with wide eyes, “Really?”
“Yes. I love you, I love you more than I’ve ever loved anyone,” he said with a smile, “and I want you to rule by my side. I don’t want to let you… to let you go again.”
She stayed silent for a second, looking down in thought before looking back up at M’Baku. “Okay.”
“Okay?”
“Okay. I’ll be your Queen. I love you too much to decline, and I always want to be with you.”
He smiled and brought her down to his lips, kissing her with a tentative, but passionate feeling in his touch. She rolled onto his torso, and the bliss was back. He was underneath the most beautiful, the strongest, the best woman he’d ever known. And she was going to be his Queen.

Okay SO I still suck at writing scenarios and dialogue but this drabble has been with me a lil while so I thought I’d post smth a bit fluffy while I sort through some things~! I do hope that I do Toji some justice in this one~
-------
You aren’t sure how things escalated so quickly.
The chances to spend time alone with Toji have been few and far between - no matter where you go you’re always accompanied by one of the other Summoners, trying to get him alone at the library and Shiro’s there sorting out books; getting in some training together when Kengo barges in demanding a rematch; trying to make a date at the local care ends up with Ryota and Hanuman begging to come with you and it turns into a snack run. In fact you didn’t realize just how little time you spent with just you and Toji until you wanted some privacy, and it took some serious effort to finally get a moment alone.
So it’s no surprise that night time was the only chance you two had to spend time uninterrupted. You’d expected him to put up more of a fuss about sneaking out after curfew, being a stickler for following rules and all, you were already preparing for a lecture when you’d pulled him out of his dorm room; however, aside from the initial grumble about coming to his door just to rouse him,  Toji made no attempt to stop you when you’d suggested heading out of the dorm rooms for a break. Taking him by the hand you found yourself pleased at the way he stuttered but didn’t let go, squeezing softly as you led him through the corridors and out of the building, retracing the path you always took to get to your favorite place.
It was only a small area, a field tucked away in the corner and littered sparsely with trees it didn’t stray far from the school grounds so it was the perfect spot to come to for a much needed break from the stresses of the world. And during the night, when the sky was alight with stars and unnamable constellations it became a sanctuary for late night escapades. You’d been here plenty of times before, but always alone. This time you weren’t, and you were surprised at the nervousness that burned in the pit of your stomach as you looked at Toji from the corner of your eye hoping to gauge his response but his eyes were fixed on the sky.
For a moment you can see pure awe on his face, the tension falling from his shoulders as his mouth goes slack as though he’s trying to find the words to describe what he sees. Briefly you no longer see the torn up fighter who struggles to see the good in the world, and instead you see Toji, the man who stares at the stars above as though for the first time as the light dances in his eyes.
And god what you wouldn’t give to keep that side of him.
The night is cold but you’re used to the chill, finding a spot on the grass to settle down and coaxing Toji to rest down beside you. At your expectant look he catches himself and hides his embarrassment with a cough, avoiding eye contact as he takes a seat close to you, but not close enough for your liking. He doesn’t expect you to scoot over to his side and lean against him, letting your head come to rest on his shoulder. He tenses up, and for a moment, you worry that you’ve overstepped your boundaries when you feel his hand reach out to cover your own, willing himself to relax as you cuddle closer and turn your attention back to the sky.
You don’t know how long the two of you spent there - you passed the time pointing out places in the sky, tracing lines in the stars and trying to make out some constellations that you remembered. Toji snorted when you started making up your own constellations, making up ideas and stories based on the shapes that you were able to follow with your finger. When you joked about the ‘Komasan constellation’ you’d drawn out and cooed about how the two of them matched, that earned you a jab in the side, but you just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to make the joke, especially when you saw the corner of his mouth quirk into a smile.
“You’re smiling” you pointed out, grin growing on your face as he looked away.
“No I’m not”
“Mhm sure you aren’t” you hummed, beginning to lean over when Toji began turning further away. “So, you wouldn’t mind if I just-“
Cutting yourself off you darted forward, moving over to his side to get a look at his face. Toji was stubborn however, demanding that you ‘stop that right now!’ As he leaned and twisted to keep out of your line of sight but you matched his stubbornness.
“Come on, Toji, just a peeekk~” you whined, grumbling when he swatted your hands away.
“Stop being so persistent! I told you that - Wait - told you that there’s nothing - H-Hey I said Wait-!”
“HA!”
By the time you’d managed to get him pinned you were practically draped over his lap, one hand bracing yourself on the ground as the other finally nabbed his chin to get him to look down at you.
“Got you!”
You were huffing from the effort but we’re too preoccupied riding the high of being triumphant to care. The smile you were trying to catch sight of was already gone, replaced by something else. Instead Toji’s face was turning a nice shade of red clearly embarrassed, dusting across his cheeks and his eyes were blown wide, giving you a nice view of the deep blue color they held.
Wow, were they always so pretty?
It’s weird, as though you were only just now seeing him for the first time - really seeing him. You were seeing the way his hair slicked back, messy from how many times he’d run his hand through in exasperation; seeing the shape of his jaw, the scars across his cheek that you could reach out and trace with your fingers just like the stars. You were seeing his horns, the way they flickered and twisted as though affected by the wind, and for a moment you were mesmerized by the vibrant color
Blue, just like his eyes.
You didn’t realize you were reaching up until your fingers touched them, though touch wasn’t the right word for it. Instead your hand passed right through, warmth spreading across the skin hot but not unbearable. You’d been dying to know what they felt like but had never gotten the chance, but now you knew. It was like a hearth, a welcome warmth and you just couldn’t help the soft laugh of amazement that passed your lips as you played with the smaller wisps of his horns, flexing your fingers as though playing the notes of a melody only you could hear.
The soft call of your name was what brought you back to your senses, the feeling of Toji’s body shuddering beneath you and the rush of breath against your ear making you acutely aware of what you were doing.
Oh.
Oh no.
“Oh shit” you gasped, jerking back and trying to put some distance between the two of you.
“Toji I am so sorry! I-I wasn’t thinking and just-“
“Wait.”
Toji moves first, hands clasping onto your hips and you freeze at the feelings of his fingers pressing against your sides. His grip unsure, loose enough that if you wanted to you could just stand up and move away no problem. But a part of you doesn’t want to, you’re too busy staring at his face.
His face is still blushing, even more so than before as he’s now red right up to his ears but he’s meeting your gaze, looking you right in the eyes as he speaks.
“I…stay, p-please…”
Toji breathes out your name again but this time it’s different and your heart practically jumps into your throat at the sound. You move slowly, gradually shifting along with the direction of his hands until you’re eventually seated properly in his lap, straddling his knee to keep yourself up as you settle into a comfortable position.
Your hands reach for his biceps, using them to brace yourself as you try to relax. Your heart is pounding in your ears and you’re sure that you’re blushing just as bad as he is, however all you can focus on is his hands, one squeezing at your hip as the other slides to rest against your lower back to support you. His palms are rough from years of practice and fighting but they’re so warm that you practically melt against him, feeling yourself really start to relax as you allow your head to lean on his shoulder, settling into the crook of his neck.
Toji tilts his head, pressing his face into your hair and letting his eyes flutter closed as he moves down, brushing against your forehead, nose, cheek, and eventually coming to the corner of your mouth. He pauses, lips just shy of touching your skin and you giggle as his breath tickles you. Opening his eyes Toji looks up at you, those same blue eyes piercing yours as though staring into something behind your eyes.
It’s almost like he’s asking permission, waiting for an answer from you to see if it’s okay for him to continue. Huh, how sweet, but you don’t reply.
Instead, you close the distance and kiss him.

So the hubby and I wandered into our local Spirit Halloween, cause, well, Halloween stuff, and I found this Tarot deck, which, it should be noted is “FOR NOVELTY PURPOSES ONLY.” Because I lack impulse control and what I could see of the art on the back looked interesting, you know it came home with me.
So we open with a surprisingly sturdy if alarmingly pink box.  Nothing fancy, but a decent box.  Opening the box revealed a deck that was not wrapped in plastic, so the gods only know if it actually has all the cards (I have not counted because I keep getting distracted by the art).  Anyway, the top card was Lilith as the Queen of Wands, which, well, I think sets our expectation pretty accurately--that is to say, very low.  I’ve gone ahead and included the back, which is simple, but not completely terrible.
Anyway, the art on the cards...is amazing.  I’m not sure if good amazing or bad amazing, maybe both at the same time.  It’s obvious at a glance that it really is for entertainment, since there’s little symbolism and no unifying theme beyond spoooOOOOoooky!  It’s also worth noting it’s not the most culturally sensitive deck in the world, but for $8, what do we expect here?
I’ve picked a few of my favorites, and this is a decent representation of the deck. So, let’s talk about some of these glories.
In our top pic, we have the Inquisition as the Wheel of Fortune, and the fact that for their wheel they have a dude being tortured--this is fucking hilarious.  Next up, as the page of pentacles we have “Baron Samodi.”  Which, I mean, I’m pretty sure that’s not how his name is spelled at all.  But he seems like a friendly and classy enough gent.  From what little I know about the Baron it could be a worse representation, although I’m really not sure why everything is on fire.  Moving on, I have no idea why the eight of swords is this Lisa Frankesque unicorn, but I’m totally digging it.  It’s absurd.  Finishing out or top row is the five of cups, brought you by “mermaid,” which looks like a bad ripoff of one of those famous japanese paintings  The seaweed bra is an interesting choice, and looking at it more closely, I think she’s really getting off on crashing those ships.
So, second row, we start with the High Priestess.  I actually really like this one.  Not all of the cards in this deck are bizarre, and overall the art is well done if strange.  Overall.  Until we get the the two of wands and rally start looking at these cyclops.  Why are they blacksmiths?  Why are they hammering a sword on a table?  and their faces.....  But it’s cool, cause everything’s on fire and there are volcanoes and shit.  Take it in, enjoy it.  And move onto the ace of cups, or “Giant Whale.”  Now, this one is fabulously drawn, but uhhhh...that’s not a whale.  At all.  It’s like, a water dragon or something.  Frankly, I like this wild inaccuracy, and I guess if you lived several hundred years ago and hod no idea what  whale looked like, you might guess something like this.  Wrapping up our first pic is the seven of cups, Nessie.  I don’t talk about cryptids here much, but I have always had a soft spot for Nessie.  She looks so sad here, like she knows she’s the last of her kind and she’s disappointed in the dudes in the boat for bothering her.
Moving on to the second pic, first row.  We’re starting with a ghost, the two of swords.  For a sheet, this ghost is extremely threatening, and I’m impressed at the level of detail here.  There are a fair number of cards that are typical halloween characters, and they’re all solidly done.  Next up we have Death, who I think is probably one of the better cards.  This Death is fucking metal, with his boat and hourglass and shit.  Moving along, we have the ace of swords, “Quezalcoatl” showing us once again they had no proofreader checking the names here.  Gotta say, this one is decently done, really hits the high points.  Also, impressive that they pulled from multiple traditions, I’m going to give them credit for that.  Finishing out this row we have a yeti as the Hermit, which is really appropriate, even if his expression is hilarious. He looks so kind and awkward.  This yeti is trying to take his shoes off at your door but is nervous because he doesn’t wear shoes and doesn’t know what to do.
Onto our last row, we’ve got Hanuman as the knight of wands.  I’m no expert on Hanuman, but they definitely have the monkey god thing going on here, and I’m really respecting the amount of effort that went into drawing all that body hair.  Next up, and again an appropriate choice, we have the Moon as a werewolf. I really like this one, too, and the terrified hands in the foreground are a nice touch.  Then we have Anubis as the king of wands.  Those aren’t hieroglyphs and his staff is weird, but he’s drawn well enough, and looks to have golden skin, so I’m not complaining.  And lastly, their demon for the Devil is fucking terrifying.  Like, holy shit.  All those mouths and teeth. Like I said, this is a good representation of the deck overall.  I think it could still be used for divination, although you’d probably have to use a standard interpretation instead of attempting to interpret the imagery on the card.  Also, I really like how dynamic the art is.  A lot of decks are super static, and either just busy, or minimalist.  I like the balance this one strikes.
