Nobody tagged me in this (I just found it randomly in the book tag), but I feel like TALKING ABOUT BOOKS! and I wanna hear from my friends about their reading. so! Here we are!

Last book I…

BOUGHT:

Cooling the Tropics by Hi'ilei Julia Kawehipuaakahaopulani Hobart. This is a nonfiction book that uses the lens of refrigeration and ice (and its various food forms like frozen drinks/ice cream/etc) to talk about the ways Hawai'i was colonized and native Hawaiians were forced to assimilate. Have not read it yet, but itching to pick it up during this summer season!

BORROWED:

I Keep My Exoskeletons To Myself by Marisa Crane. I have the e-book for this checked out from the library right now. Currently not super far into it, but it's about a world in which "wrongdoers" are given a second shadow (or third, fourth, etc) as punishment and forced to be publicly shamed (and discriminated against). We follow a main character who has lost her wife in childbirth and the baby was given a second shadow immediately. It's written in first person narration as the MC speaking to her dead wife.

WAS GIFTED:

The Last Cuentista by Donna Barba Higuera. My sister gave me this book for Christmas! I read it back in January and it's a fantastic middle grade/YA story set on a spaceship that has left earth right before a comet is about to destroy it. Follows a young girl who wants to be a storyteller for future generations but when she wakes up from stasis on the ship, a cult has taken over and they want to purge humanity of its stories and history.

GAVE/LENT TO SOMEONE:

Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire. A friend of mine was looking for some short reads, so I lent him a stack of various novellas. This is one of my favorites! This is the first book in a series following children who have gone into portal worlds and come back. While they're seeking to find their own specific door back to the world they're meant to be in, they stay at Eleanor West's Home for Wayward Children.

STARTED:

Do What Godmother Says by L.S. Stratton. I started listening to this on audio the other day! Shanice has inherited a spooky painting from her grandmother. As she starts to learn about the Harlem Renaissance painter who made it, she also begins to wonder if maybe the painting is haunted.

FINISHED:

Before the Devil Breaks You by Libba Bray. This is the third book in a series so I won't go into the plot, but it was a solid continuation of the story - I read all 500+ pages in one day! The first book, The Diviners, introduces a group of characters living in 1920's NYC as they're discovering their various supernatural abilities, trying to solve a crime, and save all of humanity from evil.

GAVE 5 STARS:

El Deafo by Cece Bell. This is a middle grade graphic memoir about CeCe's experience of growing up as the only hearing impaired child at her school and in her neighborhood. It was adorably illustrated with all the characters as rabbits. This was definitely written for a younger audience but I think anyone can enjoy and learn from it!

GAVE 2 STARS:

Do Not Become Alarmed by Maile Meloy. This was a book I picked up specifically for a vacation in January so I could read a book set on a cruise ship while on a cruise ship... While it kind of fulfilled that for me, it also surprised me with unnecessary on-page abuse of a child. The "thriller" aspects of this book were not at all interesting. There were also too many POV changes throughout. 2 stars. Do not recommend.

DIDN’T FINISH:

Stiff by Mary Roach. I DNF'd this on audio specifically. I just was not digging the voice of the narrator. I could see myself trying to read this again in physical form at some point in the future.

Steward: A letter for you, Mademoiselle. 

Mon adorable amie,

I must confess I find myself rather hesitant to pen this letter to you for fear I may overstep your desires. And yet given your willingness to join me at the opera, and our conversation days prior, perhaps I can hope that it is safe to reach out to you?

As always it stirs my heart to know how much your affections match mine. If truth be told I spent the last week in utter agony, not knowing if I would ever be able to make up for the things I had done. What a relief it was then, when you implored with me to never leave you! Your words lifted my spirits in a way I never thought possible. They offered hope. Hope that despite everything that may come to pass, we would find a way.

I know it may not appear I am keeping up with my end of the arrangement, and I do apologise, ma chérie. But it is challenging. To offer every madesmoiselle a kind smile and pleasant conversation when I can feel your presence...you flood my senses day and night, ma dulcinée, and despite my best efforts I fall victim to you every time. There is truly no one else on Earth for me but you and you alone.

Throughout the next week I will focus on our agreement. I do hope, however, regardless of the madesmoiselle who walks or talks beside me, that you know all my thoughts will be of you. Though with the Prix de Thornolie just over a week away, I wonder if it perhaps too bold of me to ask you to accompany me? I hear la Flamme de Minuit is projected a victory and if I were to place any bets I should want my good luck charm by my side. If I have to endure another loss to Gaston I'm certain I would never hear the end of it.

Mademoiselle Eleanor: [Huffs] Must you pry? 

Marquis de Clèrisseau: Would I be considered a caring brother if I did not? 

Mademoiselle Eleanor: Hmm...

Marquis de Clèrisseau: Though I do wonder, what has our petit Monseigneur written this time to have you so engaged? 

Mademoiselle Eleanor: And just how do you know this is from Oliver? 

Marquis de Clèrisseau: [Smirks] It’s simple, really. If that were a letter from say...le Vicomte de Vignieu, your cheeks would not be so flushed. 

Mademoiselle Eleanor: You always think yourself so clever. 

Marquis de Clèrisseau: En effet. It’s a matter of pride, if you must know. 

Mademoiselle Eleanor: [Scoffs] Of course it is. 

Marquis de Clèrisseau: Now, what does he say? 

Mademoiselle Eleanor: Not that it is any concern of yours, but he’s asked me to accompany him to the Prix de Thornolie. 

Marquis de Clèrisseau: Hmm...so it appears the two of you have mended your fences once more. He’s certainly...devoted to you. I’ll give him that. 

Mademoiselle Eleanor: [Sighs] If you have something to say, Ernest, get on with it. 

Marquis de Clèrisseau: [Deep Sigh] Very well. I’m worried about you. 

Mademoiselle Eleanor: Quoi? Whatever for? 

Marquis de Clèrisseau: Ma soeur, I know the two of you well enough to know should you make this decision together it’ll make you both very unhappy. 

Mademoiselle Eleanor: How dare-

Marquis de Clèrisseau: Involving yourself with Oliver places you in a postition to secure the most public of roles...our future Madame la Reine. Are you truly ready to adjust to such a life should Oliver ask for you hand? I know you, Nellie, just as I know him. I know you well enough to know that above all else you prefer your privacy, and that watching you struggle with the loss of it because of him will tear Oliver apart. So I ask you: Are you prepared to make that sacrifice? Are you prepared to be the wife of the future Monsieur le Roi? If I were you, I’d think long and hard before responding to his request. The last thing any of us want is for your choice to come with dangerous consequences.

"Adrian." Amy called him, a tiny smile creeping the corners of her lips. He observed her for an instant, almost as if he could see beyond Alex's face. "It's so good to see you." A week had passed and every fiber of her body was missing him. 

"Excuse me but I don't believe we have met before." 

"I know this is going to sound crazy. Insane actually. But I swear it's true." He was looking at her with a cold analytical stare. It was intense and piercing. It reminded her of her first interview with him so many months ago. "I'm Amy." He stood stoic as ever. "Amy Miller. As in Amy Miller your, well, I was going to say assistant but I think that's not totally adequate." 

"I think you mistook me for someone else," Adrian said, politely, turning on his heels, and heading to Raines Corp.'s front door.

"I had a free minute. Is this the  candidate?" Adrian stood, turning to observe her once more. "To Nicole's annoyance, you interviewed me. You told me a story about a genie and a man. You hired me on the spot."

"That's not conclusive."

"You saved Lily for me. That night we kissed for the first time in the rooftop restaurant." 

"You'll have to excuse my skepticism–"

"You told me about Charles and Eleanor." Amy took a hesitant step towards him. "You talked about them in your cabin when Vega set you up. We were with Kamilah. But we spent the night together alone and you said you would always be there for me." 

"How did you–"

"You have a silver locket with Charles' drawing. It's the most important thing to you. You risked coming here with me to take it out of the safe before the fight with Gaius when you destroyed your labs. And after I stabbed Gaius and he attacked me back, you ran to me and held me." As the memories filled her heart with both pain and warmth, the emotion cut off her words. She blinked, trying to contain her tears, touching her chest unconsciously. "I died in your arms." 

"Amy?" Adrian looked into her eyes, almost like he was expecting to recognize her soul. "How can it be you?" She took a step forward and before she expected it, Adrian had dropped his briefcase and was hugging her. For the first time in the last week and even trapped inside this strange body, she felt like herself. His warmth and his hand on her head, putting that perfect amount of pressure so typical of him, calming her nerves. Amy closed her eyes; letting the feeling spread. "I knew there was something off. It was your appearance but it wasn't you." 

"You really noticed it?"

"Of course I did." She hugged him back, taking a deep breath. They stood like that for a while, ignoring the curious looks of the people walking past and the destroyed city around them. Finally, he gently pulled back from her, attentively observing her 'new' face. "What happened, Amy?" 

"I don't know, I… I remember the fight against Gaius and then I woke up under the sun in New Orleans looking, well… Like this." His hands cupped her face, eyebrows furrowing with sorrow and concern. "Do you really believe me?" 

"I do." 

"Even with all the craziness?"

"Even with it." Amy focused on his eyes, that calm stare that always comforted her. "After all, we are getting good with craziness, don't you think?" She softly chuckled before becoming serious again. 

"I have been so worried and scared, I woke up alone and none of you were around and I thought that Gaius–"

"We are all fine, Amy. I promise." 

"I just… I missed you." She whispered.

"I missed you too." Adrian took a deep breath, leaning his forehead down with his eyes closed. “There are so many things I need to say to you. So much to ask you. I–”

"Sorry to cut off short such a cute encounter…" Nik's sarcastic voice said as he walked to them. Instinctively, at the sight of his bow, Adrian stood in front of her. Amy smiled to herself, remembering the first time he had protected her like this in Priya's fashion show. "...But I need to see if Alex is okay, Amy." 

"I know, I know." She sighed and Adrian turned to her. 

"What is going on, Amy? Who is he?" He asked her, suspiciously. 

"Nik Ryder, Adrian Raines." Both men eyed each other. "You said it was my appearance? So, my body is here?" Amy asked Adrian. 

"Seems like it." Nik took a step to the door but Adrian extended his arm, stopping him. "I still don't know who you are." Nik watched him clearly mad. "Until Amy explains everything, a nighthunter will not come into my building." 

"Then you do know who I am," Nik smirked, smuggling. 

"No. I just know your type." He replied, coldly, his stare stopping in all and each of the weapons that Nik was carrying with him.

"Now listen, bloodsucker…" Adrian narrowed his eyes at that term and stood his whole high, looking more intimidating than ever. "...I don't have time for this. I will come in with or without your 'permission'." 

"Nik, cut it out." Amy said angrily, rolling her eyes. "Adrian, Nik is Alex's friend. The girl this body belongs to. We think that if I'm in her body–"

"--She is in yours." Adrian finished her sentence and Amy nodded. "Seems plausible." 

"Okay then." Nik headed to the front door again but Adrian stopped him once more. "What game are you playing, Raines?!" 

"I trust what Amy says without doubt but, before this, she doesn't know who you are." He was calm but firm, his body was taut, ready to take any course of action that was necessary. "Alex has to corroborate who you are. I'm not risking Amy's soul or body in the hands of a nighthunter." Amy smiled at him, gently squeezing his arm. 

"I could say the same about you." Nik's voice was more similar to a snarl than actual words, however, Adrian kept his composure. 

"I concur. That's why Amy is going to talk with Alex alone. Do you agree?" Nik simply nodded so Adrian turned back to her. “In that case.” He gave her the elevator key. “She’s in the guest penthouse. We will be waiting here." 

"Okay."

"If you need me, call for me. I will hear you." He gently touched her cheek, searching her eyes like he was still trying to see beyond her features. "Take your time." He planted a small kiss on her forehead. 

“Amy.” She whirled to Nik. “Tell Alex I'm waiting for her too.”

"I will." Amy took a deep breath and headed to the crystal doors, feeling her stomach twisting around anxiously. As she walked inside the building everything felt familiar but at the same time so different. Maybe it was because this strange face was reflected in all the glass instead of hers. The metallic doors were replaced by the wood ones that belong to the penthouse. Amy stood there, thinking about what she was about to find on the other side. To see herself like that, out of her body, was a scary thought without a doubt. And there was no way to know how Alex would react. If it was Alex at all. The seconds passed until she gathered the courage to lift her hand and ring the doorbell. She heard steps getting closer and closer as her heart sped up uncontrollably. 

“Who is it?”

“Um, sorry to bother you but Adrian sent me here.” Even though it wasn't entirely the truth, it would be easier than saying who she truly was. It was a chat to have face-to-face, not with a door between them. 

“That’s weird, he didn’t mention anything about someone coming–” Amy held a gasp when her own image swung open the door and the other woman looked at her dumbstruck, clearly not expecting the vision she had in front of her. “What the…?”

Part 729

McCoy

“It was a few months of keeping to ourselves before we told our parents,” McCoy said.

“And how did they react?” Amy asked.

McCoy couldn’t help his smile widening.

“Better than I could have hoped. They’ve been supportive of us the entire time, even if it was a surprise. And they’ve been there for us through everything. To join as one big family— I can’t wait.” McCoy squeezed Scotty’s hand.

“You’ve spent lots of time with your families together,” Amy stated.

Scotty nodded, but McCoy spoke again.

“We spent this past summer split between each other’s homes. Then later the entire Scott family stayed here.”

“That’s you and your brother, your mom and grandfather, correct?” Amy looked at Scotty.

“Aye.”

“You were with them during the time of your father’s heart attack Leonard?”

“Yes.” McCoy’s voice sobered. “I was scared, being so far from home, but the Scott’s were wonderful. Francine took care of me like one of her own sons.”

“When your family stayed here, was that when you began to teach Leonard and Queen Eleanor Scottish?”

McCoy saw Scotty begin to blush again and shake his head.

“That was in the summer. Being here after- after what happened was helpful for helping them learn more,” Scotty said.

“I’ve noticed a few things you’ve called each other, I won’t try to get them correct,” Amy gave a light laugh, “but would you mind saying them again and what they mean?”

“Leannan and mo ghràdh,” McCoy replied.

“Mo ghràdh,” Scotty corrected him.

“That’s what I said,” McCoy lifted an eyebrow slightly. Scotty shook his head, but was smiling.

“Fine,” McCoy laughed. “That’s why I like ‘leannan.’ He says I say that one just fine.”

“And they mean…?”

“Sweetheart,” McCoy answered, trying to keep himself from blushing.

“My love,” Scotty finished.

Amy looked between them with a smile on her face.

“Do you mind a few harder questions now? I thought perhaps those together, especially about the kidnapping, while you’re here together.”

McCoy looked over at Scotty and held his hand tighter. His fiancé gave a tiny nod.

“We’ve given our statements at the trials. I’m sure those are on record,” McCoy answered, voice only hinting at a chill.

“Yes,” Amy agreed quickly. “But those are the plain facts. Perhaps you could tell a little about how you felt, what went through your minds?” She must have noticed Scotty stiffening beside McCoy.

“I thought I might lose Len,” Scotty suddenly said before Amy could say more or McCoy could answer. “That’s when I asked him to marry me. I couldn’t be without him.”

McCoy blinked. “He was hurt and I couldn’t do anything to help him. They had threatened to start hurting me and I didn’t care if they did as long as they wouldn’t hurt him anymore.” He swiped a hand at his eye quickly.

He saw Amy make a quick gesture with her hand, and Ms. Gannon nod a second later.

“The recording’s stopped. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you.”

“It’s alright,” McCoy said quickly.

“Take a few minutes, please,” Amy said. “We’ll move on to something more pleasant. Your engagement?”

It was nearly lunch by the time Amy decided she’d asked enough of them. Twice more she had signaled Ms. Gannon to stop recording. McCoy’s opinion of her had gone up each time. He had a good feeling their story was in good hands.

“Who would you like first after lunch?” McCoy asked as he led the way back to the dining room.

“Either of you is fine,” Amy said pleasantly.

“You want to go first and be done darlin’?” McCoy asked Scotty quietly.

“I suppose,” Scotty said slowly.

“Then you don’t have to sit dreading it,” McCoy said. “We can have dinner sent up and be alone later if you want,” he said for only Scotty’s ear. “Maybe a swim and relax first? Whatever you want to do.”

Scotty smiled at him, but McCoy saw the anxiety still hiding in his eyes. He wanted nothing more at the moment than for the day to be over.

Part 730

Scotty

The questions in the first interview had become increasingly difficult for Scotty as time went on, and he had been glad when they had finally finished.

But the much more difficult interview was still ahead of him. His feet carried him slowly from the dining room back to the room where the cameras and the rest of the equipment were set up. Francine walked beside him and kept giving him worried looks.

"Are ye okay, sweetie? Did the first interview go badly?"

Scotty quickly wheeled around to his mother and shook his head.

"N-no, it went... well. Very well, actually. Amy is... really friendly and careful with her questions."

Francine nodded in understanding.

"But?"

A sigh escaped Scotty and he shrugged.

"But I'm afraid of the questions that are coming. And of saying something wrong."

His mother smiled gently.

"Oh, Monty. It's going to be all right. I'll be there the whole time, watching what ye say. If I get the impression that anything sounds strange, I'll give ye some kind of sign right away."

Scotty had to smile, too.

"Aye... thanks, a mhàthair."

"You're Francine Scott, Scotty's mother, right?" Amy started the interview with a brief introduction of Francine.

The Scottish woman nodded.

"Aye. I'm here to support my son."

She grabbed Scotty's hand and squeezed it gently.

"I... asked my mum to be there, because i-interviews still make me very nervous."

Amy smiled and nodded.

"I can understand that. You don't have that much camera experience, right?"

Scotty shook his head. True, a few interviews had been done in Scotland back when he and Robbie had gotten the scholarship, but that had been different. And even then, Scotty had been terribly anxious.

"I've seen and interviewed you with Leonard now, Scotty, but I als want to talk to just you about your relationship with the prince."

Scotty blinked. His protective instincts immediately kicked in at the phrase.

"Leonard is not just a prince. He... is far too often reduced to that role."

Amy nodded apologetically.

"Of course, please excuse my choice of words." She waited a brief moment and then seemed to build on that with a good question. "What is Leonard to you?"

For a moment, Scotty just looked up in the air, seeming to ponder the question. Then a smile formed on his lips and he blushed.

"Leonard... is the person who changed me. Because of Leonard, I was able to finally understand what it means to love. He understands me like no one else. He helps me try new things. Leonard doesn't care where I come from or who I am. He loves me for who I am and does everything he can to make me feel good."

Out of the corner of his eye, Scotty saw his mother nodding in support. She was of the same mind.

"There are some rumors circulating about your relationship with Leonard. Do you want to say anything about that?"

Scotty felt his stomach tighten. The question he had been dreading the most was there. It was right there in the room. And he knew he had to answer it.

"I know the rumors. I've heard them, read them, been asked about them. All I can say is that it hurts me to read something like that. I always thought that the universe knows Leonard. That everyone knows how much he loves me. And yet there are voices that want to destroy our peace. But I want everyone who doubts my fiancé to know that I will always stand by Leonard. He is my heart, my soul, my everything. And he has never raised a hand against me. And he never would. He protects me. He loves me. He catches me when I fall."

As he spoke, tears formed in his eyes and he felt Francine squeeze his hand even tighter.

"Mrs. Scott?" Amy seemed to see that Francine also had words on the tip of her tongue.

"Leonard is part of my family. And I know he treats my son the way he deserves. He carries him in his arms and does everything for him."

Several more questions followed, and when Amy finally signaled Ms. Gannon to turn off the camera, Scotty's heart dropped. He had made it.

Miku Hatsune- A bubbly, cheerful, outgoing girl with a lot of friends. Age 15.

Luka Megurine- An artistic girl who has a bit of anxiety. Good friends with Meiko. Age 18.

Teto Kasane- A bubbly, cheerful girl with an unexpected temper and badass side. Age 15.

Megumi “Gumi”- A bit shy, but underneath, she is very brave and resourceful. Age 16.

Daina- Basically, she’s a furry. Her fursona is a fox. Age 17.

Dex- Basically, he’s a furry. His fursona is a wolf. Age 17.

Ruby- A girl who likes memes and is basically just vibing through life. Age 16.

Yukari Yuzuki- A modest girl who has a crush on Ruby. Easily impressed. Age 16.

Shian- An innocent girl who is also quick-tempered and pouts easily. Age 14.

Muxin- A kind, knowledgeable boy. He loves history and astronomy. Age 14.

Cangqiong- A very classy and demure lady with wisdom beyond her years. Age 18.

IA- A bit mysterious and seems cold and expressionless. Age 16.

Piko Utatane- Shy, quiet, and cold. Gets along with Muxin due to similar interests. Age 15.

Genbu- Overly-enthusiastic and brash. A bit of a loudmouth. Age 18.

Chiyu- Bold, brash, and brave. Kind-hearted and strong. Age 17.

Haiyi- Talks a lot. Usually has something up her sleeve. A prank perhaps? Age 16.

Leeds Kasumiga- A timid girl with a mysterious heart illness that inhibits her. Age 14.

Mizki- A real goth, unlike Zatsune, who is a goth-in-training. Age 17.

Tei Sukone- A dastardly, manipulative villain who fools people, then bites. Age 16.

Cider- A smug, self-absorbed inventor of elaborate but stupid inventions. Age 17.

Bruno- An agreeable, outgoing guy who likes spreading good vibes. Age 18.

Clara- Bruno’s girlfriend. A little bit timid, but always kind and optimistic. Age 17.

Aku Yamine- Quiet and a bit melancholic. She’s… a different type of goth. Emo? Age 14.

Lily- A tough high-school delinquent who stands up for the weak. Age 17.

Amy- Cheerful, optimistic, yet quite chill. Doubts herself often however. Age 16.

Chris- He might be a big guy, but he is quite shy and very gentle. Age 18.

Kaori- She seems confident and bright on the outside, but hides sadness? Age 17.

Ken- He’s talkative, smart, kind of a dork, but very focused and brave. Age 17.

Iroha Nekomura- Innocent and sweet, but agile, with cat-like reflexes. Age 14.

SeeU- Energetic, hyperactive, makes bad puns, silly, makes bad puns… Age 16.

Kiyoteru Hiyama is the host of the game show. Big Al is in the role of Chef. Sweet Ann is in here too somewhere. Yuki, Oliver, and Ryuuto are three kids who watch TDI on TV and love to watch the drama go down.

———Episodes———

Episode 1-

Introduction to concept. Characters see the advertisement for the game show and contemplate going on it. The winner gets a million dollars!

Episode 2-

Introduction to characters via their audition videos. Kiyoteru chooses contestants.

Episode 3-

The audition videos are wrapped up… Kiyoteru’s decisions finalize. Then, the fateful day comes. Everyone is flown to the island… they realize it’s not a tropical island in the Pacific like they were shown. It’s in the wilderness of Nova Scotia.

Episode 4-

Everyone arrives at Total Drama Island and meets each other. Some get along, and many clash.

Notable big-drama-causers include Tei, Eleanor, Dandy, Parsec, Cider, Merli sometimes, and Zatsune sometimes.

Koto, Teto, Genbu, Ritsu, Haiyi, Daina, and Dex stick out for being especially wild.

But really, everyone’s unique personality contributes to the drama and pot of chemistry in their own way.

Another camper who sticks out is Gakupo Kamui, who enthusiastically boasts about his skills in martial arts and how ready he is to win Total Drama Island. He begins to get on the nerves of the other campers.

“I can out-run, out-kick, out-sing, out-wit, and even out-PISS anybody else here.” Gakupo says.

“Well, can you do us a favor and GET-out?” Meiko says.

Episode 5-

Campers have to jump off a one thousand-foot cliff into a shark-infested lake. Then they have to pull some crates back to camp, and the team from before with the most people who jumped get carts to help them. Then they have to build a hot tub from material found in the crates. The team with the best hot tub wins the challenge.

The campers who were too scared to jump off the cliff have to wear chicken costumes for the rest of the day.

Despite his incessant bragging previously, Gakupo is one of the few campers who does not jump off the cliff, because it is revealed he is scared of heights, sharks, AND deep water! He even pisses himself and dramatically faints when he gets close to the edge of the cliff... and then he faints off the cliff! However, his jump isn’t accounted for, because Gakupo was not conscious during his fall. Luka has to be the one to jump in after and rescue him! This causes Gakupo of The Dangerous Dolphins to be the first campter voted off.

“Well… I guess he was right about out-pissing everyone here.” Neru laughs.

The other campers too scared to jump are Taya, Dandy, Eleanor, Clara, Muxin, Chris, and Kaito.

Haku is at first too scared, but her best friend Neru encourages her to be brave. They jump together and yell funny things on the way down.

Even though Eleanor is scared, she ends up going over anyway after Chiyu pushes her off the cliff, being sick of Eleanor’s arrogance. However, it isn’t even accounted for, because Eleanor did not jump by her own will.

Clara is too frightened and doesn’t make the jump, which is surprising, because she was so enthusiastic before. However, her boyfriend Bruno had jumped without her…

Taya takes one look down the cliff and starts backing away, crying from fear. He feels ashamed that he’s so scared, but he cannot help it. He gets pats on the back from Clara.

Dandy is scared and makes an excuse as to why he can’t jump. He says he has an open wound from a fencing accident. In reality, Dandy does not fence.

Muxin is too scared, but asserts that he doesn’t have to jump off the cliff if he doesn’t want to, and that the challenge is ridiculous. He then comforts Taya, who is curled up sobbing, and tells him not to feel shame. Taya and Muxin become friends, but sadly are on different teams.

Chris is too scared and actually starts crying too. People don’t expect it.

Kaito is scared to jump, panics and makes a bit of a scene, and is then picked on and belittled by his brother Akaito for the rest of the day. Kaito then vows he will become braver from here on. Braver, and stronger!

Leeds actually does jump from the cliff, but the stress causes her heart to become weak and she has trouble walking for the rest of the day. Some of the members on her team rudely deem her a nuisance, but others tell her to take it easy and understand her.

Afterwards, Clara gets a bit sour at Bruno, who is her boyfriend, for jumping the cliff without noticing she was too scared.

Koto jumps the cliff and she actually has fun. But afterwards, she wears a chicken suit anyway, because she loves birds.

Episode 6-

The challenge is to stay awake the longest in the "Awake-A-Thon" after running twenty-kilometers and eating a huge meal that includes turkey, which is known for making people sleepy.

Dell of The Killer Porpoises gets voted off for falling asleep first. He generally has a bad attitude and is apathetic. Haku feels heartbroken because Total Drama Island was the first time she had seen Dell since her parents’ divorce (by complete chance, even,) and he is not the warm person he used to be. Also, their time together was so short. But unexpectedly, Dell acts nice to Haku right before he leaves, calling her to his room when he’s packing to go off the island. They have a nice conversation. Before Haku says goodbye, Dell says “Listen, I’m just not cut out for this wacky game. So you better win. I KNOW you can do it.” Haku begins crying and hugs Dell. Just like when they were kids.

There will eventually be a list here of who falls asleep first to last, but that’s quite convoluted. So I will say Dell falls asleep first, and Ruko second. Campers were not allowed to drink coffee during the challenge, rendering our Long Sleeper without access to her “secret weapon.”

Koto stays up the longest, because she is a bird lover and loves birds too much to consume them. Therefore, she was the only one who didn’t eat any turkey with her meal, and didn’t become as sleepy as the others! Also simply because Koto is badass and feral.

Episode 7-

A best-of-five dodgeball game. Five people are randomly chosen on each team. This is repeated three times for a total of three rounds of dodgeball. The Dangerous Dolphins win 2 out of 3 games.

Zatsune of The Killer Porpoises gets voted off for being scared of dodgeball. It was a fear ingrained into her from her elementary school days, when the “dodgeball kids would bully her.” Sadly, since Zatsune always acts so cocky, nobody feels much sympathy now.

Taya and Muxin want to spend time with each other. Being on different teams, they can’t, and are deemed traitors. But when Tei, on Taya’s team, suggests Taya could get valuable information about the other team via Muxin, Taya refuses to sabotage their friendship. This causes Tei to begin picking on Taya…

Episode 8-

A three-on-three talent show contest. Dex of The Killer Porpoises gets voted off for no reason. He wasn’t even in the talent show!

Dandy wanted to get chosen by his team, the Dangerous Dolphins, to be in the talent show, claiming his “talent” was unmatched. However, he wasn’t chosen because he didn’t exactly have any real actual skills despite his claim!

Taya, Luka, and Gumi are eventually chosen by the Dangerous Dolphins for their talents in music. Luka will play piano, Taya will play the guitar, and Gumi will play the electric bass as they all sing a song cover. This causes Dandy to criticize their every note and call them amateur. Given Taya and Gumi’s low self-esteem, Dandy’s criticism gets to them before the final talent show.

As for the Killer Porpoises, Yuuma, Ritsu, and IA get chosen as the team’s musicians. They form more of an idol dance group, with a pre-recorded background track. (It will also be a cover.)

The Dangerous Dolphins actually win. If they were to have lost, Dandy would’ve probably been the one voted off for being a prick.

Episode 9-

Campers have to go to the forest, stay out there overnight, then race back to the campgrounds in the morning. Yukari of the Killer Porpoises gets voted off. See, it wasn’t really Yukari’s fault, but… she got attacked by a bear and is now too injured to stay for the game, so the voting off was mandatory, even though the Killer Porpoises otherwise won. Everyone becomes more-or-less traumatized at this, and feel very hurt for Yukari.

Episode 10-

Campers have to face their worst fear, specific to each camper.

It seems many of the campers had been traumatized by the bear incident…

Koto’s worst fear is the perfume department from Spongebob, because that scene scarred her as a little kid. So the host of the game show, Kiyoteru, magically opens a door to the perfume department at a real department store and Koto has to walk through it. Koto only makes it 5 steps in before she runs out, screaming. She does not pass her fear test!

Yuuma is scared of the Crab Rave because there are too many crabs. So he is taken to a part of the island overrun by crabs, and Kiyoteru turns on the Crab Rave song and they all start dancing. Yuuma dives into the water screaming. But the crabs chase him. He doesn’t pass his fear test.

Taya attempts to outwit Kiyoteru and pretends he is afraid of strawberry shortcake, which is actually his favorite food. But everyone remembers how scared he was in the first challenge at the cliff. So Taya’s specific challenge is to jump off the cliff this time…

Yuuma gets voted off because he was scared of crabs.

Episode 11- Row a canoe to Boney Island, portage across the island, start a bonfire, and canoe back to camp. Wil gets voted off.

Episode 12- Hunt the other team dressed as deers with paintball guns, or if one is a deer, avoid being hit by them. Piko gets voted off.

Episode 13- Create a three-course meal for Kiyoteru to judge. Three chefs are chosen from each team. Miku gets voted off because her recipes went overboard with sugar, spice, and “everything nice.” (And also a tiny plastic Barbie shoe, for some reason.)

Episode 14- Participate in a set of three-out-of-five trust exercises. Shian gets voted off because she is a tsundere and has trouble trusting people.

Episode 15- Make it through Big Al’s life-threatening and disgusting boot-camp challenges. IA gets voted off.

Episode 16- Participate in three extreme sport challenges. The challenges are "sofa skydiving", riding a moose while avoiding being tossed off it, and water-skiing on mud. Lapis gets voted off.

Episode 17- Eat a nine course meal of disgusting food made by Big Al. Drink shot glasses of blended cockroaches. Yuu gets voted off.

Receive a clue to find a key hidden somewhere in the island to open a treasure chest containing a prize. Ritsu found a dud chest and his prize was… getting voted off.

Episode 51-

Avoid getting sprayed by Big Al’s water gun in a game of hide and seek. Parsec gets voted off. Good riddance!

Episode 52-

Build a bike from scratch, and then race it.

Who rides who’s bike?

Anyway, Dandy gets voted off. Probably because he’s 7 foot 4 and huge. He probably broke all the bikes.

Episode 53-

Watch a horror movie and then avoid being captured by a "deranged killer". Gumi gets voted off because she was scared.

Episode 54-

Catch the specific animal assigned by Kiyoteru and bring it back to the campground unharmed. 

Taya had to bring back a raccoon. He came back first.

Koto had to bring back a bear. She came back second. What a total beast! And I’m talking about KOTO!

Genbu had to bring back an eagle. He came back third.

Leeds had to bring back a frog. She came back fourth.

Kaito had to being back a squirrel. He came back fifth.

Haku had to bring back a moose. She came back sixth.

Tei gets sent off because she couldn’t bring back a mere chipmunk. The little chipmunk was trained in king-fu and ended up beating her up! Hooray!

Episode 55-

Compete in the following while handcuffed to one of the other campers: eat disgusting food with your hands behind your back while the person handcuffed to you feeds you, return a fragment of Teto’s cursed tiki idol (it is literally shaped like an “idol” figurine) to Boney Island, and assemble a totem pole with the wooden heads of the voted out campers in the order that they are eliminated. Taya gets voted off.

Episode 56-

Campers have to find Kiyoteru and Big Al after being washed away by a storm. Leeds gets voted off because her condition came to its worst. Her weak heart had finally failed on her and she suffered a heart attack. She was doing so good in the game despite her shortcomings, and will serve as an inspiration for many. Leeds will not die. She is in good hands. She will get top medical care.

Now, a twist is revealed to the audience.

Everyone who was voted off actually went to go to a beautiful island resort. The remaining campers still don’t know about this.

When Leeds finally gets consciousness back, she finds she is in a hospital bed… in paradise. At first, she thinks she is dead. The room then fills up with everyone else voted off, and she begins crying because she thinks she is in heaven.

“They really killed you?” Leeds cries, thinking everyone else is dead.

“No, Leeds!” Yukari says. “You’re alive! You made it… to Paradise Island!”

Episode 67-

An episode dedicated to the Island of Losers, which is actually a five-star island resort paradise. Yukari has fully recovered from her injuries.

Gakupo and all the others who were eliminated early finally get their time to shine! The losers will also be involved in the episodes to come, as they will be the audience.

Episode 58-

The campers have to find their way back to camp after being left in the wild with limited supplies. Unexpectedly, our total beast, Koto Fuuga, comes back last. Rumors have it, this is because she found a bird sanctuary and got totally distracted…

Episode 59-

Survive a series of dares, given by the eliminated campers until someone drops out. Haku is forced to do something horrible by Tei. Tei dares Haku to joke around and portray offensive stereotypes. On national TV. She just can’t do it… She drops out, but not before insulting Tei to her face for having an offensive sense of humor. But Kaito says Haku made the right choice. She sacrificed her chance to win a million dollars so that Tei didn’t have to force her to make a choice that could hurt people when they see it on TV. Kaito thinks Haku deserves an amazing consolation prize. Genbu respects Haku for this as well.

Episode 60-

Another episode dedicated to the Losers on Paradise Island. A bit of a breather before the final challenge.

Episode 61-

The two remaining campers have to climb a pole and retrieve a flag, walk across a board on top of shark-infested waters while carrying an eagle's egg, and run a race to cross the finish line. Everyone on Paradise Island has someone they are rooting for. Kaito is about to give up… but… There is ice cream at the finish line! Meiko sent it there because she knows ice cream is Kaito’s favorite food, and it would motivate him at the last moment! Kaito makes a mad dash to the finish line and wins Total Drama Island!!

Episode 62-

Kaito won! But there is a twist. In order to actually win the million dollars, he has to find the a case containing the $1,000,000 and bring it to the Dock of Shame before anyone else does! Now everyone has a chance again! This is a race between him and all the other campers! If any of the other campers being it to the Dock of Shame before Kaito, there will be a whole second season of Total Drama Island, and Kaito will have to win all over again before he gets his million dollars…

Episode 3-

The audition videos are wrapped up… Kiyoteru’s decisions finalize. Then, the fateful day comes. Everyone is flown to the island… they realize it’s not a tropical island in the Pacific like they were shown. It’s in the wilderness of Nova Scotia.

New prose-

The advertisement and hype also found itself to the internet, where it found the attention of 15-year-old Uta Utane, hardcore girl gamer, amateur computer-music producer, and internet addict. She knew Japanese fluently and interacted with overseas game and music communities all the time. Internet circles affectionately nicknamed her “Defoko,” meaning “default girl,” due to her faithful devotion to mastering playing strategies with the default characters and skins in five of her favorite video games. Uta was in her natural habitat on the web. But offline, she was as shy and awkward as a wilting flower.

The reason Uta signed up for Total Drama Island was because she lost a bet with her pesky siblings—two older brothers and one younger sister. They were quite lively, unlike her. However… Uta found a bright side to the whole situation… Think of all the video games, software, and music tech one could buy with a million dollars!

It wasn’t long enough before Uta overheard her classmate Teto Kasane, talking to Momo Momone about a cool new game show she herself signed up for. Teto and Momo were best friends, but many people mistook them for a doting dating couple all the time. They were so affectionate always, even kissing each other on the cheek at times.

“Momo, have you heard of Total Drama Island?” Teto asked.

Uta couldn’t help but eavesdrop from her desk. And Uta was very, very good at eavesdropping in plain sight. She was so quiet. People always thought she just wasn’t listening…

“OMG!” Momo replied. “Teto, I’M going on Total Drama Island!” Momo said. “My brother Momotaro told me I needed to do more things in life. So he signed me up. I was angry at first, until I saw what the prize was for winning—“

“NO WAY!” Teto’s yell suddenly interrupted. “Momo! I’m going on Total Drama Island too!”

“OH MY GOSH!”

The two girls hugged.

“EEEEE!” They both squealed in bliss.

Uta, interest piqued, was now awkwardly walking up to the scene. She wanted to perhaps talk to Momo and Teto… but definitely didn’t know what to day.

“I… um, wouldn’t get too happy.” She tripped on the words quietly, stammering somewhat. “In Total Drama Island, you two might have to be pit against each other…”

“Aaaaand now here’s Defoko, here to dampen our spirits again.” Teto said.

“…My name is Uta.” The quiet girl said. Once again, she came off as harsh…

Indeed, the nickname Defoko had even spread to her classmates at school. They all thought it was a fitting name for her, given how much of a plain, blunt, “default” girl she was.

“Well then, Uta. Why do you have to be so mean to us?” Momo asked.

“I’m not being mean.” Uta answered, with more conviction this time. “I’m just… being real. I’m looking forward to winning Total Drama Island as well, and even brushed up on insider knowledge from obscure web sources. Perhaps you two shouldn’t get your hopes up too high…”

Momo and Teto looked at each other for a few seconds.

“Wait.” Teto suddenly said. “You’re going on Total Drama Island too, Defoko?”

Uta nodded.

“…I see.” Momo said.

“Hm. No offense…” Teto said. “But you’ll be lost without any teamwork. And you don’t really have any friends… do you?”

“There can only be one winner of Total Drama Island.” Uta said nonchalantly. “And I work alone.”

Uta dramatically flipped her hair and tucked part of it behind her ear. Then as mysteriously and nonchalantly as ever, she walked away… into the deep, hazy distance… of the algebra classroom at 7:00 AM.

“She has such a cold attitude...” Momo commented.

But deep down inside, Uta didn’t mean to come off as so snide.

Rumors had it, there were even flyers, strategically hung up in random places where young people tended to hang out. Some of the contestants who were on the show could even tell you they found out about the show in this way. Namely Yuuma, who found out at his mall’s bowling alley. Yuuma was a popular guy in his school who hung out with his friends often. The day he saw the flyer, he joked with his friends Shuu and Souta that it sounded like a dumb scam. However, the advertisement wouldn’t leave his mind… and down the rabbit hole he went, until he found the guts to enter the contest.

“Quick way to perhaps make a million.” He thought. “Maybe make some friends. Play friendly competition games.”

Nothing would’ve prepared Yuuma for what would be in store for him.

Ads were even printed in teen magazines. In the latest issue of the gaudy LUXE VIBE magazine, geared towards teenage girls and young female adults who either dreamed of, or had the bucks to buy the showcased expensive clothes and cosmetics. Eleanor Forte, who lived a life of luxury, came across the ad, and her first thought was…

“Barbaric!” She said out loud, while lounging on her expensive chair by the outside jacuzzi by her expensive private pool with massage jets (and poolside maid service.) “The absolutely senseless things that those common plebs would do for money…”

“Oh, Ellie, dear!” Eleanor heard her mother call her.

“WHAT.” She answered.

“I signed you up for Total Drama Island, dear. Wouldn’t you love to have a chance to come out of your shell, meet some people your age and play some wholesome games without being on that phone all day?”

“…WHAAAAAT!?”

Eleanor yowled so loud that she scared her purebred cat who was taking a nap indoors.

(Koto’s audition video is her reciting bird species and traits from memory. She’s like an encyclopedia. And then she does some badass feral unhinged bird calls. Perfectly, I may add.)

Ritsu then says he is a boy (which is true) and that his boobs are missiles and he weighs 10 tons and he is actually 6 years old because he was created in a lab in North Korea (which is not true.) An exhausted Ruko says “that’s enough” and turns the camera off.)

(Gumi is painting a beautiful painting of a tiger and all of a sudden, the painting comes to life… because she has boss editing skills. She also does some gymnastics with the painting. Because Gumi is a boss. But she is unexpectedly very shy.)

(Meiko is just showing off her muscles and being a very gay lesbian.)

(Taya is shy but he gets into playing his violin. He starts singing (he’s good) and then attempts to freestyle rap (he’s bad). He makes a really stupid rhyme with his name. “…Because I’m Taya, I’m not a papaya!” But then he randomly makes another rhyme and it’s kinda lit. “Catch me jammin’ like jambalaya.”
