Since Hater is all mega fanboy over evil Major Threat, I got to thinking that maybe that's what Hater assumes Peepers thinks of him. Like... beyond the aspect of how Peepers pushes Hater to be a villain, Hater might genuinely think Peepers only is his #1 fan because Hater is an evil superstar? Like maybe Hater thinks Peepers would ditch him if Hater ever went soft? Maybe that's some kind of internal conflict for him since Peepers is the one guy that has stuck around through thick and thin--Peepers is his little buddy but Hater could never SAY that out loud. Because he's got an apathetic evil bad boy reputation to uphold!

And so yeah, Hater likes the ego boost "fanboy" Peepers gives--but Hater wants EVERYONE to think of him like 'that': Hater wants people to think of him like Hater thinks of Major Threat: Big and strong and cool space wizard powers and scary and epic... and he assumes that's how Peepers sees him.

Just imagining Hater finally realizing that Peepers is his #1 fan NO MATTER what Hater does though? Oh my grob. Dude. The butterflies, the stunned "Oh," and the voice cracking "--rEaLLY?" --Peepers revealing he actually... like likes him?!?! Wuh??! Since when-since forever.

Peepers better not be joshing.

waitwaitwait. i just realized i never even talked about this but it's important. CANONICALLY, dark is the one always actively doing all of the physical stealing, but daisuke, in dark's mind, is the one always actively figuring everything out. he might get only average grades in school (partly because he doesn't want to stand out,) and he says electronics aren't his thing (a la daisuke has no real passion or enthusiasm for them like a tech geek would) but some of the things he does throughout the series includes remembering complex routes/directions for dark and knowing exactly where to go, or being able to piece 1+1 together and get out of pinches even when it comes to hiwatari's plans, especially in the drama CDs.

for some even more specific examples, in the light novels even when daisuke's actively trying to reject dark and completely abandon phantom thievery, daisuke still IMMEDIATELY figures out how a mechanical haunted house contraption (a dressed up, robotic 'killer' that chases guests based on a sensor) operates and later on he even instinctively starts planning how to steal an aquarium's artwork just after hearing a guard drop an explanation to some other girls about the artwork's security. in the third LN daisuke also calms himself down to try to figure something out while dark and wiz are both under intense mental attack; being able to tell himself to relax and analyzing the situation is a big difference from the nervous wreck he tends to come off solely as, and even was at the start of his character development, and that's where is now. when he isn't the one with a body, daisuke pays very close attention - he lets dark handle the talking and stall in the moment if they need time, but daisuke isn't and never has been dead weight in the phantom thief zone for dark.

i figure it's an easy misconception to make, but considering daisuke is plenty capable of just dressing up and disguising himself as dark (if he can't, for whatever reason transform,) and pulling off his own heist at an equal rate to dark himself, nobody really should doubt him. dark too is canonically usually asleep most of the time, especially in the mornings or during daylight hours. he doesn't talk, his voice or awareness isn't always there, which is why dark also misses out on a lot of information (whether it's basic or complex) and often needs daisuke to fill him in. don't even bring up th anime with me bc daisuke is noooot useless or wimpy!!! you can make fun of him and doubt him over anything BUT the crime and phantom thievery!

The story itself sounds like it got pulled from a fanfic but it's honestly one of my favorite parts of the movie because of the way Jaquel tells it. I actually started a fic that picks up where Mean Girls ends in 2018 and have picked it back up again but it's going to take awhile before I can publish it because it's going to be really long (I'm 10k words in and they're not even really friends yet lol).

ngl this s5e7 scene reworked my brain chemistry and fully convinced me for a time that eric jackson was a #fightclubcore manifestation of archie's repressed anger and trauma and i still think about it a lot. istg it's a good reading. istg it has legs. istg it works GREAT in the character arc/subtext no question but it also works NEARLY in the literal text to the point that it's magical to me, plus/minus a couple of interactions with real people that can't fully be worked around

i mean s5 had the nerve to move on from this and have eric continue to visibly struggle and suffer under the weight of his rage and grief while (outwardly) functional/coping archie only begins addressing his own ptsd by first witnessing one of eric's ptsd breakdowns and fighting to get ERIC some ptsd support

and then they reveal that archie DOES have trauma manifestation hallucinations haunting him

and then after archie experienced catharsis eric just..."moves away" offscreen alongside all the other war ghosts

it's near-perfect i'm saying. eric could just be archie i'm saying
