Gantober #27 - An Aria For Pigs
[Downfall Timeline, Death, Grief, Mild Description of a Dead Body, Mild Body Horror]
The Hero of Time is nowhere to be found. The princess of a doomed kingdom takes matters into her own hands. As always, Impa follows right behind.
----
You can read it on Archive of Our Own Here!
I haven't beta'ed it, it's kind of weird and very Unhallowed Vespers' related, but it's also some weird Impa and Ganondorf and it's also spooky and also Impa almost says fuck. :>
----
It is unknown when or how, or even if, the Hero of Time had died.
Most people left in Hyrule still believe in heroes. They trust that a mythical figure will rise from the ashes of a golden age long since consumed, and put an end to their common misery. They are hylians after all —unused to the idea of coping with despair, its prolonged chafing. Impa can hardly blame them for it. But she knows.
She has known for a long time.
The princess had fidgeted with the idea herself, independently, but had refused to accept it for as long as she could. Denial curdled into obvious delusion until it suffocated her. Impa chose to keep her mouth shut and let her process this on her own terms. The absence of light may be Impa’s domain, but Zelda still clings to its presence, seeking it sometimes beyond reason. At seventeen, Zelda no longer identifies as a princess —princess of what? Her kingdom had been stolen, her lands scorched and torn into crude, uneven parts— and now she hid in dusty clothes Impa pulled from secret crevices near Kakariko. Bandages, daggers and bones. Zelda is now known as Sheik. Why the hell not. They had picked the name together; a title rather than a name, not that anyone still alive would know but Impa. And yet, despite that process of reshaping her identity for protection and safekeeping, the poor girl still knows to embrace her divine role within the fate of the world. So does Impa. This is what she tells the girl, in great detail: everything known about the course of time, godliness, destiny. The rules of the holy land they were born to preserve.
Perhaps this is what had convinced the princess to take the matter into her own blessed hand.
Impa arrives alone at the empty castle. Ganondorf the usurper had destroyed the old one. White stone turned to black, vulgar work. Charred oxygen and the rancidness of unearthed magma; and yet the halls are so cold.
Places Impa used to know were mangled. She had haunted these halls long before they’d been dead; and she expected some measure of longing, some heartache for the perfect gardens of green, for the flowers in bloom and the careless laughter of a content crowd. But the old thing had been obliterated. There is nothing to recognize. As always, its new master cares for dominance and symbols in a way that never once proved anything.
Impa walks through the new meaningless construction at a steady pace. Ignored by monsters, of course. Not only is she quiet, but hardly ever recognized as something worth killing. Fairies ignore her wounds just the same. She walks one step removed from reality. Shadows draping her, always.
As she rises towards the central tower through endless stairways, Impa notices the press of something against the inside of her throat.
She enters a cavernous room, cathedral-like, bathed in sickening sunset-light, and sees her.
Impa walks to the bundle of cloth, slowly. Kneels. She traces the exposed throat. Cold.
Dead.
Zelda had been dead for hours.
Impa takes it in. The off-colored, wax-like sheen of a perfect skin. Blue eyes, pale and glossy. Blonde hair, tangled in a way she thinks needs brushing. Half-open mouth. She had seen so many bodies before, just like this, or worse. Somehow, Impa had never really prepared herself to welcome this one into her memories; even though she had spent so much, so much, so much of her existence shielding the girl’s fragile life from harm. Cupping candlelight between burning fingers. But it is over now. A sheikah knife lays next to the princess, and arrows, and a bow, and Impa doubts the fight, if there had ever been any, had lasted more than a minute.
She breathes in, and out, and closes the girl’s eyes with her thumbs, rolling loose fabric under her chin to keep her lips mended together, soft and asleep. Impa tries to look inward, with idle curiosity. She finds space between her ribs, a newfound clarity to the oxygen she breathes. She presses small hands together across her chest, across the single eye of her people, and thinks: after everything, the sheikahs and Hyrule died together as one.
Everything she ever upheld as meaningful, now tepid on the lush crimson carpet. Belief, mistakes, restraint, self-abandon. Love. Gone. It is over. It is over, and yet Impa cannot process it as defeat. Not her defeat —even though she had categorically failed at everything of import ever devised for her by fate.
The girl’s right hand no longer glows.
A guttural sound echoes from the depths of the large room, where pillars overcast the surreal gleam in strange moving shadows. Something large and grotesque. A thrill, on the edge between a demonic hiss, a human voice, and something far worse than both.
Impa lets go of the girl and stands. She breathes unburdened. No tension left in her besides the simple mechanics of motion. Taking the blade out of its sheath has nothing to do with self preservation. At most, it feels like a social cue, expected from her by a crowd she can’t see and didn’t really care for.
She walks towards the moving shadows. A quiet pace. No need to rush. Anything about to happen now is but an epilogue.
The darkness itself seems to pulse. Large shapes overlapping, the smell like untouched depths of a cave beyond cracks in the floor, fizzling char, nearly suffocating her. Something gags with labored breathing. A man. A thing . Impa focuses, invoking her perception of truth among the pit of organic tar.
A shape. Human.
Ganondorf, or rather the imprint of him, has one knee to the floor, much like the first time they spoke to each other seven years ago. His face is hidden behind bloodied hands, long hair. Light shudders underneath his fingers: a map of his veins and bones backlit with divine fire. The limits of his flesh aren’t clear anymore. His body blurs, swept away and redefined amid the moving darkness.
“So you won,” Impa says.
A hiccup, hidden behind shaky hands.
“You should have known,” replies a voice, booming and strained and breathless, surrounding her yet pinned to a singular, fragile point. “Y-y-you should have guessed I had. Reclaimed. Courage already.”
The silhouette heaves, each word like a stab wound to himself. The fingers slip; Impa sees the eyes then, the nostrils and mouth, the fine lines embedded in his dark skin.
All of them burning from within.
“W-w-what does it. Feel like.” He groans, trying to look at Impa directly; but there is so much push-and-pull of darkness, pure light, and skin that focusing on the person behind is near impossible. “To know. To know you bowed to your masters. For this.” He tries to laugh, but the voice is too broken, his effort too blinding. “Hyrule. Is. Nothing now. I am…” He gasps. His defiance almost sounds like despair. “I am all that is left.”
A shadow on the walls behind him takes a strange form; hulking, something with claws and tusks and a gaping maw. But the shadow refuses to stay put, refuses to commit yet. The old Hyrule might be dead, but it has yet to be replaced by anything new.
“You still haven’t made your wish,” Impa notes.
Blackened nails ram their points into the flood of light threatening to bubble out of his flesh. “The Triforce is mine ,” he spits out, and Impa watches on as the sad spectacle of Ganondorf’s victory leads her to the only possible conclusion she can draw.
“You’re holding the pieces together by force.” Her breath constricts, half-stuck inside her throat. “The Triforce still wants away from you.”
Ganondorf writhes, his body lined in boiling gold. The cracks of a vase about to shatter. And yet, and yet…
With a groan, the gerudo’s face shifts back together, looking somewhat human through all the searing glow. Enough for Impa to recognize a bloodshot eye. Pupil blown wide.
“I can do it,” he rasps, fractured. “I will make the gods. Obey me.”
Impa can’t help the cruel smile carved across her skin.
“The Goddesses are long gone,” she says. “No one can make them do anything.” Impa watches him struggle some more, grasping for focus to remain enough of a body to reply, or react. A shape lost in a storm of his own making. She cocks her head to the side, curious. “You’re not drawing out the full strength of the Power you secured. Why is that?”
He hurls forward with a spasm —already bestial, already a monster. “I won’t. Debase myself. For their entertainment.” He tries to stand. Fails. “Or for yours.”
“Debasing yourself,” Impa repeats, ears ringing. “You killed a child today.”
She catches the glint of a mean grin among the sizzling chaos. Impa imagines reaching for the usurper, no matter the pain; coiling both hands through the man’s fiery scalp, and pulling the skull apart. The weakened flesh would cede to any kind of pressure. She could do this, and he wouldn’t be capable of stopping her.
But she doesn’t need to do this. All she has to do is watch this man torture himself, and pretend this feels like vindication.
“This is my victory,” Ganondorf grunts, squirming inside his rupturing skin. “It’s mine . I-I-I need to rule, as myself. I won’t let them…”
“You don’t want godhood to change you,” Impa concludes. A horrible cough-like laughter shoots out of her throat. She has not laughed like this in over a decade. “Do you even hear yourself? The gods hate you. Everything sacred hates you. Hyrule will never stop resisting your claim. The Triforce will fight you like one fights a disease. Whatever you think you are… They’ve already scraped it clean off. You’re clinging to a corpse.”
He makes a sound, that he must have hoped dismissive instead of agonizing. “I c-can’t. I can’t let them overwrite me.”
“Then stop trying to assemble the Triforce inside your body.”
“No. ”
He had barked this at her, like a child. A pang knocks behind Impa’s armor. She can’t name its cause; if it is simply anger, or a different kind of urge to scream.
“I c-c-can’t let the pieces back out,” He chokes, holding each side of his blinding face. Brute force against cosmic chaos. Somehow , he is still winning. “If I do… If I do...”
“You will be shattered,” Impa says, flatly. “Maybe you should die, then, if you can’t handle it. You should let it kill you.”
He looks at her, his smarting expression almost taken aback. The blade between her teeth had slashed thoughtlessly; the vicious evidence in her words pouring out of her like a fetid sigh, held back for far too long. There are no consequences for her cruelty anymore. She no longer has to pretend she was ever more than a body groomed to inflict pain. Light had been blotted out. And shadows always were her domain.
She allows the blade to drop; slipping from her open fingers and clanging against the muffled floor. One step. Two steps. His gaze fixates on her as she makes her way to the abomination; the warlord who had killed the only girl she had ever loved; the man who had set the ruins of her life on fire, cleansing all that remained until nothing was left . She stands tall, and he crawls.
Impa had never felt more free.
She drives her fingers through his hair —static jolts of fire and thunder and raw pain, and Impa welcomes each sensation with abandon. She yanks him closer to her; he doesn’t yelp, reaches for her wrist when she kneels besides him. His grip, for all its godlike power, is weak, unfocused, completely lost. He fights her as much as he clings to the concreteness of her body. His patheticness, not her grief, is what makes Impa want to cry.
“You wanted this, didn’t you?” she murmurs through her teeth, so close to his deformed pointy ear she could bite off the excess if she wanted to. “Then do it. Go on. Become a god. Rewrite the world. Who cares what you make of it. Who cares what you once wished this would mean to you. Go on. Rip yourself apart, my lord.” He makes a choking sound, an echo of the grief she doesn't feel. He burns so bright against her. Impa stares ahead, right at the wall, at the sunset far behind, as each of her fingers sizzles and chars and fuses with him. “Do it,” she says, as her lungs threaten to collapse. “Do it, you coward, do it. ” Ganondorf’s essence shakes and sputters besides her. She can’t feel her arm anymore as he curls, as tension rises, as something wild and manic wrenches out from her accursed throat. “DO IT.”
Golden light erupts beside her in a shriek. Tears of relief boil right through her waterline.
She doesn’t close her eyes as Ganondorf implodes, blinding her.
Blinding everything.
At last, the Shape arises.
The golden light is weakened now, after the flash. Not mended together, but contained under endless blackened fur. A maw unhinges. More darkness than flesh. Timeless eyes open for the first time, pale and emptied and quieter. The walls of the castle are blown open to a darkened sky. Inky. Alive.
Ashes coat everything.
The Shape looks down at itself. Bones cling to its arm, tangled there, bleached clean off.
With terrible claws, the Shape plucks the skull off its dark fibrils. It is so small inside the palm of its hand. Boar-like eyes, fueled by divine violence and impossible dreams, stare mindlessly at the empty sockets.
The wind howls behind them both.

in honor of pride month can u go over ur gender/sexuality hcs/canons for the frequent fliers on this blog?
i can try LOL as i mentioned, sexuality wise i think of everyone as bi by default cause for every single character i draw regularly, theres like one hundred different pairings with them that rapid fire through my head where i go "oh thats cute theyd make a good couple :)" that i dont even plan to depict or talk about, but its just. i kinda dont want them to be limited for what partners they could have you know? but of course the one exception is Astor who is a gay little man
gender wise. frankly i dont have anything set in stone for most of them because i dont really want to! i like picking different genders for them literally based on what mood im in (like what i do to myself big surprise) like, i like making Octavo look & dress super fem sometimes, and the idea of him being a trans woman makes me just as happy as him simply being a GNC man. once again i dont like limiting myself to how i think of a character because ill inevitably want to change it when im bored XD
however the one gender hc i think ill stick with forever is genderfluid Vaati, im adamant that Vaati wouldnt stay with one gender ever in his life. I also think Dread is a trans man because thats actually becoming something important about him :)
#sorry i only gave you like two definitive headcanons LOL i hate. Making choices#ask#headcanons#oh yea and one bonus. i dont draw her frequently but ive always thought of Aria as a trans woman and probably lesbian becaus#older trans woman make me happy and i still think she should date impa

Just some more details on the characters in my Zelda AU
Link:
Names hes used and roles he’s been: Link, Thistle, scarred champion, Wild, Hateno Phantom, Yigas bane, intern to doctor Purah, Slate, Field tester for ancient armor mark 2, linkson (honarary Bolson construction worker), Aryll, possessed one, fierce diety, godling, wrath of the goddess, hunter, Madius
Adventures or jobs link has been on: Botw, linked universe (forced his way out of it though), behind the scenes aid in AoC through leaving supplies and thinning monster hoards before the champions got to them but didn’t want to deal with Revali or Rhoam, also didn’t want to deal with his past self (closest he got to direct interference was just prior to AoC link pulling the sword and Fort Hateno) despite his limited interference he was still seen by some of the people back then (baby Sidon, Impa [she attempted to follow him but she lost his trail], terrako, and Tulin), bonus links whatever the story ends up being, mercenary work, cartography, and sheikah tech research.
Other general stuff: Impa trained him before he faced ganon, he is the best potion maker in hyrule and made many varieties other than what is seen in game, he helped to train Riju, he fights with a very diverse skill set but after training from many teachers he’s always got strong swordsmanship to fall back on.
Links family (post calamity):
Link: Immortal or atleast eternally youthful without using magic to fabricate aging (his eternal youth is only after botw 2 in this AU so he’s like physically 26)
Zelda: friend, girlfriend, wife. Died 7 AR (after resurrection)
Riju: adopted sister
Teba: father figure
Yunobo: little brother / protege
Sidon: adopted brother
Astra: first daughter, born 4 AR, Researcher, primarily fights with light magic but after Sunny’s death picked up archery, dies 145 AR of natural causes
Sunny: second daughter, born 6 AR, archer, explorer, died 23 AR yiga, had healing magic
Penumbra: biological mother to Brigo and Aria, adoptive mother of Astra and Sunny , twili, links current spouse, shorter than Midna but not by much and same height as post divinity Link, born 19 BR (before resurrection), uses magic to slow aging to live with link longer / keep her youth, dies 681 AR from natural causes
Brigo: son born 12 AR, half twili, trained by sheikah (fights like Impa does in AoC with a bit of shadow magic thrown in) can perform something similar to urbosas fury
Aria: third daughter born 46 AR, half twili, fights very similarly to how Link did post resurrection but subbing flurry rush and bullet time out for magic (jumping into opponents shadow, dins fire) and hand to hand
Both Brigo and Aria can use magic similar to the arm shown in the botw 2 trailer (green life magic shit)
Fi -> Identia: the spirit of the sword, Link awoke her and helped her to heal and become her own being and think of herself as more than just a weapon hence the name change as I saw in a skyward sword review where the reviewer thought Fi was derived from ‘identify’ so I thought it would be neat to pull a name from the same word to show growth but also stay true to the roots of the character. Able to manifest a more human form like ghirahim relationship with link is for me to classify right now.
After Sunny’s death Link wiped out all the remaining yiga and any that did survive are too scared to make another move on him

ty liz as always i love you so much for helping me whenever i need it!!!! you really are the biggest mvp
song is translated from its original german, but i wont torture you guys yet with that nonsense...... yet >:^)
[part 1] [part 2]
Another moon cycle had passed when Link found himself being called to the castle's chambers with orders to return to Death Mountain. To his surprise, General Impa had taken his word of advice and sent not only a negotiator, but a messenger as well, to gain intel on the witch -- under the condition that the captain accompanied them to their destination in one piece. A day hadn't even fully passed before the captain ultimately made the decision to have his escorts return to base.
"Are you sure about this, captain? The general had made it clear that it was imperative that we--" the negotiating party was cut off by Link's mount abruptly turning to halt their own. His features were knit together tightly with a stern glare; he was not going to repeat himself again.
The two soldiers shared a quick look of doubt between themselves. As quickly as they had looked to each other, they were back on alert and gave their leader a salute. They turned their horses around to leave Link to continue on alone.
"It's better without them," he assured himself. "They're safer at base." A reclusive dragon like Volga wouldn't take too kindly to more than just one stranger, let alone three in his dwellings.
Link had made it to the neighboring village before nightfall, just in time to gather any more information before heading up to the caves. He barely managed to stow away his horse into an unused stable before a crowd of people surrounded him, showering him with praise and gratitude for bringing peace to their little town. Link declined their gifts with a tentative smile; their allegiance to Hyrule was all that was needed.
True to his word, Volga's forces had not been seen prowling about in their streets. It was a relief to hear that he hadn't lied about his honor.
"You're going back up the mountain? Why The dragon might get angry! We aren’t prepared to face his wrath again!"
"It's been peaceful all this time, are you sure it's wise to do that, Mister Hero?"
He left them with their questions unanswered as he waved goodbye. It didn't take too long to reach the end of the village, coming to the base of the mountain. A cold shiver ran up his spine. He wasn't keen on taking another chance at getting lost in the caves again, but it was for the sake of protecting Hyrule. Inhale, exhale. He willed himself to relax as he made the short hike up the side of the mountain to the entrance of the Eldin Caves.
This time, he was prepared -- and a little more experienced.
A wave of doubt creeped into his mind on how well this tunic really protected him from the fires and scorching heat inside, but he'd be playing a fool if he wandered into the dragon's lair without any protection again. He slipped the ruby red tunic on quickly over his head and turned the corner. He locked eyes with a pair of Dinolfos that guarded the entrance. Last he had remembered, they weren't Dinolfos but Lizalfos -- and these two were much larger than their counterparts.
The pair took a defensive stance with their weapons drawn as Link approached them cautiously, shrinking in on himself with hands up to present himself as harmless. The drakes kept their intense stare on the Hylian even as he began to sign to them. He hooked both of his index fingers together and turned his wrists, alternating their positions. “Friend.”
The lizards didn't move.
Were they confused? Did they not know sign language? Suddenly Link became very unnerved by the situation he found himself in. The Dinolfos chattered among themselves, still keeping their weapons upright. If he couldn't communicate with them, how else would he get in? He promised Volga he wouldn't start or involve him in a war -- and he wasn't going to start by killing the two Dinolfos over a miscommunication. He cleared his throat while still holding his nonthreatening posture, gaining the pair's twin predatory stares.
"V-V... Volga."
His throat ached. Link's vocal chords weren't accustomed to much use beyond the bare minimum of simple gestures. He can't remember the last time he had even spoken a full sentence, much less anyone's name.
The two Dinolfos tilted their heads in sync. It was an eerie motion, even moreso with their owlish blinking. This time they seemed to understand, lowering their weapons and shuffling apart to grant entry. Link let go of the breath he had unconsciously had been holding as he brushed past them with his hands still raised.
That was easy enough.
A sinking feeling pooled into the Hylian's stomach when he entered the cavern, immediately met with a very familiar river of lava. He mentally prayed to the goddesses that he wouldn't have to repeat the ordeal he went through his last venture through the caves. This time, there were sounds of more activity: a Lizalfos scratching there, a Dinolfos roaring there. If he could see well enough against the bright shine of the fires, he would swear that even their shadows were dancing along the rock walls. It was comforting to know that he wasn't completely alone -- however, the risks were still there.
He racked his brain for the easiest route back to the crystallized caves. There was no absolute guarantee that Volga would be back where he had last seen him, but it was worth a shot. The Hylian ducked into tight corners and behind any sizable boulders he could when a stray reptile came into his view. He made a mental note that he was going to have to bring materials with him to make a map at some point. The tunnels seemed to go on forever, opening up into separate rooms that Link knew for sure weren't there last time.
He was brought out of his train of thought when a haunting sound echoed off the tunnel walls, bringing him to turn his head to the direction of the sound. Clearly the goddesses were pitying him the second time around.
æ d ɪ d ə m
Link tore his gaze away from the Lizalfos he had been stalking to break into a sprint. Now, it wasn't a tune of deception leading to a premature death. No, this was a lifeline. He wasn't going to risk repeating his mistakes and getting lost, succumbing to the heat -- he couldn't! He needed this intel for the sake of protecting Hyrule. An unknown enemy was a larger threat than the fiery blaze of the Eldin Caves.
æ d ɪ n f ɪ n ɪ t ə m
The melody became clearer and clearer with every hurried step he took down through the winding tunnels. The passageways also became tighter and tighter, but the song still hung through the air enough to pull him through the tightest of crawlspaces. He favored to ignore the alarmed screeches some of the Lizalfos he had run past to focus on the echoes. It sounded like an entire choir of voices.
ɪ n m e m ɔ: r ɪə m k ʌ n ʌ m
He came to a screeching halt. The tunnel opened up into the largest cavern he had ever seen. Rather than dwelling in the favorable crystal blues, the entire mountain's source of lava seemed to pool here into a lake. There in the middle of what he could see over the edge he had found himself standing on was the familiar shine of a draconian helmet. The tall figure stilled, sensing the Hylian's presence.
The song was cut short.
"Come down, boy."
Link hesitated at the sound of the dragon's cool voice. He didn't realize he had begun to sweat until now, brushing his hand against his forehead. The aria still buzzed in his eardrums as he willed himself to move, but his legs remained frozen in place. Even though he knew that he was not in any danger of being eaten, he remembered what a formidable warrior Volga had proven himself to be. The sound of the other's weapon scratching along the volcanic floor almost made him jump out of his skin.
"Now."
Link did as he was told this time, adrenaline running through his veins to give him control over the rest of his limbs. As to not keep an impatient dragon waiting, he favored to jump off the edge of the cliff, breaking his fall into a roll. There was still some hesitation pulling at him as he brushed himself off, a poor attempt to look somewhat presentable as he stood at the dragon knight's side.
"Why have you come back? I've kept my end of the bargain," he snapped, keeping his eyes ahead into the bubbling magma. "As you might have even seen, my kin are within the boundaries of the mountain, away from villages Hylian and Goron alike. You have no reason to return here."
"I'm here about the witch," the Hylian signed, pulling himself away from Volga's side to step into his view. "Princess Zelda's orders. I need more intel."
"Have your whelp look for that witch herself. I've told you everything I know about her. If that is all you've come for, consider your time wasted."
Link's stern expression cracked. He's come all this way for nothing? As if the goddesses couldn't be any crueler-
He snapped his fingers to pull Volga's attention back onto him. He wasn't going to let himself be dismissed so easily. "If you can't tell me any more about her, then at least help me prepare for her eventual arrival!"
"Have you forgotten that I have said my allegiance will not be bought? I refuse to serve for your arm-"
"Not the army," he interrupted with another snap of his fingers. "For me." Link's gaze fell to his feet as they shuffled, planting himself into the ground. "I'll admit... I was weak last time we met. I don't know much about being this hero everyone expects me to be, but," he looked up the knight, determination bright in his eyes, "I need to learn from a real warrior. If you won't do your part by fighting against this witch, show that you respect me by teaching me how to bring her down!"
Volga stared at the Hylian. He was a fool for venturing into his lair for a second time, prey to his song. However, there was a potential in him that he could sense had been yet to be used; he surely was fiery enough to dare cross paths with him again. Maybe, just maybe, should he indulge the poor boy this once, he'd be left out of the sight of the Hyrulean army's sight to live his life without being in the crossfires of any human war.
A low growl rumbled out of Volga's throat. "Very well. I will teach you to fight. However," he warned, "I will not be the one to fight you." His clawed hand wrapped around the end of his spear to pull it from the ground. He turned away from the rivers of lava and motioned Link to follow him.
---
Link blocked another heavy blow with his shield from one of the Dinoflos's sudden strikes. They were out in the cool night air, the sounds of a heated struggle mixed with clashing steel ringing up into the sky. Volga had resigned to seat himself off on the sidelines to observe how advanced the Hylian's swordsmanship skills were; from the looks of it, his skills were capped higher than that of any other unlucky member of the Hyrulean forces, but his strikes were still less than deadly. The knight dug through the pile of rocks he had brought along with them, crushing them in his gauntlets and dusting away the rubble for precious ores that laid within them.
A sharp cry left Link's throat as the Dinoflos chieftain's blunt sword struck his side. The chieftain took this time to push the Hylian back with a harsh shove with its armored gauntlet, nearly toppling him over the cliff side in success. The drake looked to its master for another order, allowing the Hylian to pull himself up in a position other than completely vulnerable.
Volga crushed another stone in his hand -- ruby. "Again," he said flatly, waving them off to deposit the gem into a pile with the others. The Dinolfos growled and directed its attention back to Link, who was starting to show signs of exhaustion. He slowly pulled himself up to his feet and drew his white sword back into an attack stance, looking past the chieftain to glare at Volga.
He wasn't even watching. It annoyed him that the only person who had any decent skill to advise him in his training was treating it like a chore. His eyes turned back to the drake in front of him, ignoring the feeling of his lungs burning to strike at it with a renewed energy laced in his battle cry.
The dragon's attention was piqued at the sound, followed by the sharp screech of steel meeting steel. Concealed eyes tore themselves away from the rubble in his claws to observe the sparring. "No," he frowned, narrowing his eyes as he watched Link slowly beginning to overtake his kin, pushing the large reptile back with a shove of his shielded arm. Volga listened intently for the sound again, the pair now having gained his undivided attention.
Fire scorched through the air as the chieftain roared in the Hylian's direction, deflected by the shield. Link planted himself into the ground, counting the seconds before he knew the flames would die out to line himself for a counterattack. It came soon enough as he let out another fierce cry to strike at the Dinolfos.
Ah, there it is.
Volga stood briskly from his seat to deflect Link's sword from landing on his kin. The curve of his spear's blade was the only thing blocking his kin from a brutal attack. The Hylian and the chieftain both gave the dragon a puzzled look. He withdrew his weapon from Link's and turned to the Dinolfos, nodding his head in dismissal. The large reptile scrambled up in a hurry and retreated to the dwellings of the cave.
His cold stare then turned to Link who still held his expression of confusion. It didn't last long across his features as his brows furrowed together, opting to drop his sword and shield at his feet to sign furiously. "What the hell was that, Volga? I was about to take him down, but you cut me o-"
"Why do you not use your voice?" he questioned, tone harsh. His clawed fingers wrapped around the base of Link's chin to keep him still. "If you wish to lead an army, you must have a voice to lead them with. Why aren't you using it?"
Link flinched at the barrage of questions with the stinging pain in his chin. He shook his head slowly, his expression falling sullen. His fingers curled anxiously as he willed himself to speak with his hands. "I can't speak. It's always been that way."
"Liar." The knight released his grip on the Hylian's face as he looked to the moon. "You heroes are too proud to even allow yourselves the luxury of basic communication. Either mute, selectively mute, or otherwise," he glared. "Not everyone will give you the chance to speak with your hands as you so choose."
"You've known the other heroes?" he asked, eyes wide in wonder. "How does that work?"
"I might not have met them myself, but their stories are passed down through my bloodline as they are passed down to yours. Some of my ancestors have even had the pleasure of meeting them... either as friend or foe." He paused to read Link's incredulous expression. "Though, perhaps your silence isn't but a burden, but a gift -- the hero's spirit seems to take upon a skill of music. One through the ocarina, another through a harp..." His eyes turned back to the crescent moon above them.
"I know a gift from the gods when I see it. You're not blessed with only the Triforce..." A small grin pulled at the ends of his lips when. "You have the gift of song."
The Hylian didn't have much time to process or question what was said before he had been turned to face the moon above them. Volga pressed his hands on the hero's shoulders to keep him grounded in place. It was slightly -- no, very -- intimidating to feel him so close.
"I want you to do as I say: relax, close your eyes, and breathe slowly. I will teach you how to use your voice."
There was no room to argue with the weight of knight's gauntlets on his shoulders. Link inhaled through his nose sharply and did as he was instructed, eyes shut and shoulders as slack as he could manage it.
"You have much untapped potential that I can see," Volga murmured. "I am going to sing, and you will finish it; you know this song in the back of your mind, though it is not of any tongue you speak." His claws sunk into his tunic to keep the Hylian focused on him as he brought his lips to the Hylian's ear.
“Give you a raven's feather, a pledge to our love; Remember me, I'll come back -- ”
“Remember me, you hold it in your hand...”
Link sang breathlessly, suddenly growing stiff in his shoulders. He braced his left wrist when it began to burn in an intense pain, stilling when the golden glow of the Triforce peeked through the leather.
Goddesses, he was right.

5 Year Anniversary - Thank You!
Today, February 4, 2019, marks not only Sceada’s 25th birthday, it is also the 5th anniversary of me creating this blog here, and beginning to roleplay as my little Burmecian.
5 years... that’s a long time. Time, during which much has happened. There have been so many adventures and meetings, have been so many encounters and situations I was allowed to write with you lovely people. There has been so much room for my character to grow, to learn, to form friendships and bonds, becoming a better man in the process. There has been so much development, so many ways in which he’s changed, so many people he connected to...
And I wouldn’t want to miss a single one of them.
Sure, there have been bad times too. Times where there wasn’t much happening, or where that which was happening ended up leaving a heavy burden upon us, where it affected us in more ways than we imagined, both positively and negatively, and there have even been tears we cried over it all. Be it because things did not work out as we hoped, be it because we felt the pain of our characters, or be it even because we lost friends. For after all, paths not only cross and align at times, they also separate again, with some never to meet ours again, no matter how sad a thought this may be.
But such is life, and rather than list off all the things that happened, all the stories and ideas that developed and bloomed in those five years, I’d like to do something else:
I want to thank everyone who walked this path together with me, no matter how briefly.
And so I have spent the last week going through my blog and a total of 4682 posts with the goal of listing up everyone that has ever interacted with Sceada and this blog here. Whether that be by simple starters or lengthy plays, by sending in asks or perhaps by drawing a lovely picture of him unprompted, everyone who ever interacted with me and Sceada here on this blog, I wish to thank you.
And so, even though many of you are no longer here, have moved on or perhaps even forgotten about this here all together, I would like to list you all up here, under the cut. All 217 of you that I managed to count.
Consider this a huge thank you for everything, my friends! I do sincerely hope we’ll get to share more stories in the future, and that we’ll get to connect with each other, be it again after a long time, some more, or even entirely new. Thank you for making my time here what it has been, and for turning this hobby into one so very dear to me. I love you all.
Sincerely, Patrick~

Panico
Drammatico
Parte 1
Come aveva fatto a trovarmi?
"Be'? Non mi saluti?"
"Che ci fai qui...? Che cosa…Che cosa vuoi ancora...da me?"
Aggrotta la fronte e storce il naso, confuso.
"Io? Mi hai chiamato tu"
"No...Non è vero…! Sei stato tu...a tornare qui...senza preavviso!"
"Ti ho avvisato, invece. Ti ho mandato tutti i segnali possibili. Piuttosto, sei tu che non mi stai riservando una buona accoglienza"
"U-na...buo-na...acco...acco…"
"Respira, va tutto bene...Inspira, espira, inspira, espira..."
In trappola.
Inizio a tremare.
Domani? Come domani?
Paura, frustrazione, agitazione, depressione, troppe sensazioni diverse allo stesso tempo.
Non capisco più niente. Vado in tilt.
Perché...p...p...proprio a me…?"
Come ti senti?"
"M...meglio"
In silenzio, come era venuto.

Thinking about Cadence of Hyrule...
Obviously we know Cadence, Link, and Zelda are playable characters. If I had to guess, I’d say we’ll also be getting other playable characters, as well; Necrodancer had a ton of non-story playable options, so there’s no reason this game won’t.
If the main villain isn’t Ganondorf or Vaati, I wouldn’t be shocked to see one or the other as a playable character. Zelda is clearly based on both her Hyrule Warriors and Smash incarnations, so Ganondorf could be much the same - using his Sword of Seven Sages, his Trident, and his Twin Swords as his primary weapons. Vaati would be more based on his Minish Cap appearance for the sake of playability, but that still gives a wide berth of Dark Magic options, some of which likely reference his boss form - for example, summoning little versions of that form that act independently as his moves.
That’s probably it for villains, though - Skullkid is a distant option, but if Vaati doesn’t get the sattelite/minion theme, having Tatl and Tael act as sattellite weapons/minions to him would be an interesting way to set apart his playstyle.
I imagine we’ll get a Goron and a Zora, at least. These could be references to the Champions, especially since the game’s Lynels seem to be directly based on BoTW. New or Old Champions, now, I’m not sure; Sidon is so popular I wouldn’t be shocked if they went with the New Ones just to include him. (Yunobo, Teba, and Riju are far less popular than their ancestors but god Sidon is so much more popular than the rest of the Champions...)
We could also end up with Ruto and Darunia again. Wouldn’t shock anyone, they’re from the game that most other games draw from, and making fresh “incarnations” of them would make sense. This would open us up for a re-imagined Medli, whose harp would fit in perfectly with Necrodancer.
We might see another race show up - a Kokiri or Deku, maybe. The problem is so very few named members of those races are popular - mostly just Saria and the Deku Kid that Link turns into. Neither is impossible, but they haven’t been around for a hot minute. Koroks are also possible, but a bit small - Hestu fits the size better, but Makar could work if we get Medli.
Whether Impa is a cool shiekah ninja or a Grandma is a coinflip - she’s been both so often.
With the link’s Awakening remaster, throwing Marin into the game wouldn’t be so out of place - plus she had a really neat playstyle in Hyrule Warriors.
Speaking of Hyrule Warriors... The original characters to that game are probably off limits, but if they aren’t the one I know everyone will want over all others is Linkle. If she shows up as Link’s sister it wouldn’t be the end of the world, especially if her playstyle is, like in HW, primarily her boots/kicks and her crossbow(s). I’d be shocked to see Lana, Cia, Volga, or Wizzro, though.
I don’t know Necrodancer very well, but we’ll probably get 1 or 2 more popular characters from that game. Based on what I can read, Nocturna seems to me to be the most likely option; I wouldn’t rule out Melody, Aria, or Dorian, but I wouldn’t count on them if we only get 1 other one.
And for original characters... I feel like we might see 1 or 2 original characters based on the Zelda universe. This might be the requisite Goron/Zora if they don’t go the re-interpretation route. The villain is likely entirely new; someone to provide a “middle ground” between classic Zelda villains (Ganondorf, Vaati, Skull Kid, etc.) and the Necrodancer villains (the Necrodancer, the Conductor) This would be the easiest way to keep the crossover feeling like it has presence for both games without it being more important to one or the other - this is especially important since the devs said they wanted it to feel like both a full Zelda game and a full Necrodancer game.
And if the team comes up with any neat, playable versions of Zelda enemies - a Lynel character, a Bokoblin, an Octorock - that would also be neat, and feels like a solid option

Cazare Targu Lapus Maramures, Cabane Maramures Revelion

Asemenea de toponime sunt Valea Caselor (in comuna Barsana), Ulita Satului (in comuna Impas), Strada Baba (comuna Vadul Izei) etc. In specificul asezarilor maramuresene distingem alte aspecte demne de relevat.

Pensiuni Ocna Sugatag Maramures, Cazare Sighetu Marmatiei Maramures

Asadar de toponime sunt Valea Caselor (in comuna Barsana), Ulita Satului (in comuna Impas), Strada Batrana (comuna Vadul Izei) etc. Cadence of Hyrule First DLC Pack Offers a Compelling Reason to Hop Back In
July 31, 2020 2:00 PM EST
The addition of five new characters to Cadence of Hyrule is more than welcome, but not all of them quite find their rhythm.
Cadence of Hyrule was one of my favourite games of 2019. The unique gameplay of Crypt of the NecroDancer coupled with one of gaming’s most iconic, and one of my favourite franchises, was a match made in heaven. So when DLC was announced during the most recent Nintendo Direct Mini, I was incredibly excited.
The first of the three announced DLC packs is out now and consists of three new playable characters from the Legend of Zelda franchise – Impa, Shadow Link, and Shadow Zelda – and two characters from Crypt of the NecroDancer – Aria and Frederick. Each character plays slightly differently to the last and adds another layer of replayability to an already very replayable game.
I jumped straight back into the game after a few months away and by chance, went with Impa as my first character. This was a wise, but somewhat fortunate move. Impa felt like a perfect character for beginners to Cadence of Hyrule, or people who, like me, had been away from the game for some time. Rather than starting with the dagger, Impa starts with a spear, giving her that extra range against enemies. Impa also gets an ability unseen in the game so far. When her stamina is full she can teleport out of the way of an attack, dropping a decoy and avoiding taking damage. This again cements her as a great character for beginners.
Now, Impa’s a great addition, but she’s not perfect. As I mentioned, she starts off with the spear and that’s the only weapon type she can use. One of the beauties of Link and Zelda is they can alternate between swords, spears, and flails to suit the situation or playstyle. Impa unfortunately doesn’t allow this. While the length of the spear helps tackle enemies from a distance, it can almost make things feel a little too easy, with no option to change things up.
I then played as Shadow Link and followed that with Shadow Zelda. These are, sadly in my eyes, the two most disappointing characters in the pack. They play exactly the same way as Link and Zelda from the main story, only with slightly buffed special abilities and a grayscale colour scheme. That’s by no means to say they’re not fun, because they are, – they’re just not different enough to warrant being “brand new” characters. The developers had a huge supporting cast of characters from the Zelda series they could have pulled from, many of whom would have made great additions, but what we got instead was slightly buffed clones with a different skin.
Like Cadence of Hyrule, I loved Crypt of the NecroDancer. One character I avoided in that game however is Aria, who now makes her way across in the DLC pack. Aria is known for being incredibly difficult to play and nothing’s changed as she’s transitioned games. She starts with only half a heart, so any damage will kill her and, if she misses a beat, she also dies. Alongside that, she can’t use any weapon other than the starting dagger.
If you’re a glutton for punishment, Aria is the perfect character for you. You’ll need impeccable timing, knowledge of every enemy’s movement pattern, and an incredible amount of skill. For someone like myself though, who is still half-decent at the game, Aria presented too much of a challenge. The time I spent with her did force me to think about the game differently, though. Rather than hopping along exploring everywhere, it was a mad dash to reach the next Sheikah Stone, so that when I inevitably died, I could respawn further in. In the end, this method of play broke me, especially with the difficulty of some of the enemies. Despite Aria’s trickiness, however, I appreciated the fact that she offered a completely fresh way to play.
The final character included is Frederick, the singing shopkeeper. Probably the most unique of the new characters, in both playstyle and look, Frederick uses both his singing voice and rupees to his advantage. He damages enemies by throwing blue rupees at them and can stun them by singing. His operatic singing voice has always been one of the funnier parts of the series, and not only does he use it as a weapon, but he also sings along to the famous Zelda tune when he grabs an item, which is a nice touch. Frederick also turns into a ghost when out of rupees or hearts, offering a chance of survival when other characters would have ultimately perished.
While the first Cadence of Hyrule DLC pack doesn’t do anything substantial, it offers a compelling reason to jump back into an already fantastic game. The five characters each offer something a little different with their varying playstyles. When thrown back into Brace Yourself Games’ musical rendition of Hyrule, this DLC Pack shows, for the most part, the same love and care they crafted into the main game and gives a strong insight into what’s to come with their next pieces of content.
