There was something that you found interesting and endearing about walking alone in the woods as a relief. You weren’t the kind of girl to spend much time with friends since you enjoyed more your alone time, even though you’ve heard some rumors about you in college that you were weird for such thing, but it’s not like you really cared, at all.

You never feared the dark as a little child, your mom did think there was something wrong with it since all of the kids usually are scared of it, but for you, it was different. You find comfort in it –somehow– but it wasn’t something to be ashamed of.

Today was one of those days where school ended a little late, and you decided to take a late walk to the woods that was near to where you lived. The feeling of the cold breeze hitting you felt like a kiss, even wearing your big puffy coat, you still could feel it.

Being by yourself had some advantages, such as spending as much time as you want to exploring the deep parts of the woods, looking at little details and also observing the pretty dark blue color in the sky. You always thought that there was something so beautiful about the woods, you didn’t know if it was the pretty trees, the fallen leaves on the ground or everything about it.

Roaming around, you found some weird looking note that was glued to the tree, as you were getting closer, you got goosebumps. You usually didn’t find things in the woods since no one really came here because it’s been kinda abandoned, so it made you feel really curious if somebody came before you and put things just for fun to scare people off.

But the note was really weird looking. Why did the note say “HELP ME” in such a creepy writing? Was there someone here following you all along pranking you?

You definitely felt followed, but that didn’t change the growing curiosity that you had wondering if there were more notes. Walking faster and careful looking through all the trees weren’t sufficient, you definitely needed some kind of flashlight, and lucky for you, you always carry one in your backpack.

Getting the flashlight, turning it on, you started looking for more information. You definitely thought that you looked kinda crazy running around the woods if somebody came by, but there was something so interesting about this that you just couldn’t let it go.

In the distance, you could see a new note attached to another tree, you rapidly went and took it, this one saying “CAN’T RUN”. Adrenaline was hell, you felt like you could explode, were all these notes some kind of puzzle that you needed to complete? How many of them are? Such thoughts were in your mind as you were trying to calm yourself while looking at the piece of paper with the word that has been written.

Taking both notes, you did not wanna lose them, so you put them both in your pocket, and resumed roaming around. You noticed there was some kind of strange road that led you to an ever bigger part of the woods, and also, to some new pages.

This time, there was some kind of tall, really tall man drawn on with some words, such as saying “NO” and “FOLLOWS”. Is this some kind of prank? You just couldn’t step out, you were kinda lost, you’ve never been this deep inside and now, it was kinda scaring you. Your phone didn’t have any kind of connection or signal around, so you were definitely fucked.

Taking this situation lightly wasn’t a great idea at all, you knew your mom was worried since you don’t last that much time outside that much. Anxiety was killing you at this point, what the hell was going on? Also, it was also getting really late, you took a little peak of you clock, and it was almost past midnight.

Running around was simply not helping, you felt like you were stuck in some fucked up maze that didn’t have any kind of exit. You wanted to scream, you really did, but you didn’t want people thinking that you were getting murdered or something. Starting to feel dizzy, everything was looping, feeling like you couldn’t get out was one of, if not, your biggest fear. Without noticing, you fell to the ground, your strength was gone, and your head was pounding.

More than 10 minutes passed since you were still in the ground, until you felt some kind of presence, the goosebumps coming back again. You were too far gone to even try to open your eyes, so if someone tried to kill right there, you didn’t care at that point.

The breeze was getting colder, creaking was louder, and there was something there with you, but you didn’t dare to look. Some steps were getting closer to you, and you almost started praying to God to help you out if he was even hearing your pleads.

Now you were crying, you were the one that started following all of those stupid notes going nowhere, and now you were stuck in the deep zone of the woods. After some minutes of thinking, you had the guts to speak up.

— Is somebody here? Anyone? Please, I swear I’m a good person, I won’t do anything to you, but please, I need a reply. — You stated, trying to look around in the dark, since you forgot where you put your flashlight and also, you lost your glasses.

Nothing, you did not receive some kind of reply, so now you were thinking if everything that’s happening is some kind of hallucination from your mind.

From the distance, you swear you saw something, like some big thing standing there, but you couldn’t even seem to confirm that since your poor eyesight wasn’t helping you at all. But that weird creature looking thing was getting closer this time, and you didn’t have that much space to move, so you had to act fast and start walking from there.

Looking back wasn’t something that you wanted to do, if you did that it was gonna be really scary knowing something was chasing you in the dark. But what you didn’t know, that tall white man could teleport if he wanted to, and now, he was right in front of you.

You froze, what was that? You starting looking up and down trying to figure out if it was human or not. He was wearing some kind of suit, his hands were so pale and white, his fingers were so long and his face, you couldn’t really recognize it. He did have some prominent facial features, such as his nose and eyebrows, and also his hair.

— Are you lost, little thing? Have you collected my pages? — He finally spoke, his voice was… something. Not really deep nor sharp, it was just unexplainable.

— I’m sorry, what? — You asked, pages? Why is that his first thought?

— My pages. They’re all attached to different trees. Have you collected them? — He added, getting a little more closer to you.

Oh, so the notes you were looking for, that now you know they aren’t pages, he was the one who attached them to the trees? Is he crazy or something?

Octomer Ratchet is so good. I can imagine any chromatophores he might have going wild while pursuing Drift, if he has any natural camouflage abilities.

Hmm a really clear concept just came to me... Security guard Drift at the marine research facility, Ratchet is the only mer there who constantly avoids him, so he just disappointedly assumes he gives Ratchet bad vibes

One night when he's on a skeleton shift, he passes by Ratchet's tank and suddenly notices that something is fucked up with the filtration pumps (or whatever I don't know how aquariums work)

He immediately makes an emergency call to the aquarium techs who are at home. They tell him to get Ratchet moved till someone arrives to fix it. So he's hesitantly going up to the tank like, "hey buddy I know you dont like me, but I gotta pull you out of here for a bit, it's not safe" Ratchet quickly pulls himself right into Drifts arms... and now he's carrying a big squirming octomer. Drift's pretty surprised, but he brushes it off as Ratchet wanting out of his tank

When Drift finally gets to the temporary tank he expects Ratchet to jump from his arms and signal for him to basically fuck off... instead, he goes to put Ratchet down, only to get pulled into the tank with him. Now he's sitting in chest high water, pinned by a heavy wiggling octomer in his lap

For Ratchet, life is good 😎👍

Drift, meanwhile, is mentally repeating "don't get hard" like a mantra, while a purring Ratchet's tentacles caress every inch of his plating. Since it was the middle of the night, they have to wait a good bit for someone who can fix the pumps to get there and make Ratchet's tank safe again...

Been working with Tegridy these past couple of weeks!!!!! This took forever to finish - so many ends to weave in lmao. I'm so glad it's done though.

I kind of posted about the Tegridy Farms blanket here like last night, but figured since it's actually done now you all deserved some pictures, alongside a repost of my notes on making it. I really love the overall vibe of the colours and composition and I like to hope that I captured some of that here.

Notes regarding yarn, sizing etc. from previous post for completion's sake under the cut:

My color choices aren't a 1:1 match with the ones in the show. I would still argue them as "realistic" versions allowing for the saturation of coloring on the BG in the show, but YMMV and gatekeeping my technically incorrect choice would be beyond silly. I just really like making stuff I see in cartoons.

I basically tried to make this thing roughly to scale with the one in the show though, as others I saw worked single strands of DK yarn, resulting in a really small blanket.

I did some math by measuring the heights of a square of the blanket and the couch on the screencap given above and cross-referencing it with the average height of a couch (regarding my formal diagnosis and to quote tiktok, "I have this thing, it's ＡＵＴＩＳＭ"). The result was each square measuring approximately 13-15cm iirc.

I just used a basic granny square layout with this method on regular DK yarn with a 7mm crochet hook to work the squares into the ideal size. They sat at just over 15cm and I somehow only just had enough of the gray yarn. I imagine from what we see that the blanket is 7x7 squares with the others hanging off the back out of sight, so I made 42 squares in total.

Most of the yarn (except the white which was just some salvaged stuff) was Aldi UK's seasonally stocked "So Crafty" acrylic Double Knit yarn, so I was certainly sweating bullets re: if I even had enough (not sure how easy substitutes would have been). Color names are Wheat, Grass, Rose Garden, and Gun Metal.

Technically the cushions are also achievable in crochet - they would use c2c (corner to corner) and I think that's 100% the intent in their design due to the blocky/pixelated appearance of the images. There's plenty of charts for images like those, but making your own would work too. I would definitely like to hear from whoever on the design team chose to put these in the BG and if they were inspired by something or someone, since with the cushions especially it feels weirdly specific to me to use crochet in like 2017 for the "homely and rustic weed farmhouse" vibe I imagine Randy trying to force here. Based on eyeballing it and my square sizes, I'd aim for a 30cm² cushion maybe.

One thing that I’ve noticed is the amazing storytelling and character development Survey and Clicks are going through! They both have conflicting emotions, but seem to handle them very differently. It kind of reminds me of ‘Nice v.s Kind’ mentality. From my perspective, Survey is nice, but Clicks is kind.

For nice people, most of their characteristics are this:

- never wants to rock the boat

- Most concerned about not upsetting someone

- Afraid to speak up when they witness unkind behavior

- Censoring yourself for others feelings

- Enabling

Most of these in my opinion match Survey and their own mental battles pretty spot on! I should probably also mention early on that I don’t think Survey is evil, or acting out on any ill-will towards Spam, quite the opposite actually! Survey is probably walking on eggshells with every interaction they have with him. They haven’t had time to process through their own grief and PTSD from the last Neo rampage, so, that involuntary spills out when they don’t mean to. An example of this is when Swatch was talking to them about Neo, and their first thoughts were “Oh, Neo, great” clearly stating their apprehension towards the topic (and for a very good reason! Regardless of the mental state of the perpetrator, it’s hard to forgive and forget after a scenario like that). However, they also unfortunately, have that double whammy of the grief they felt by leaving Spamton alone, and was the only other Addison that actually heard the voice on the phone, therefore, they have an even more horrifying perspective of what Spamton went through. They somehow think that turning Spamton back into the white Addison will be the solution to all of their problems. Which, while one might think it cruel, given Surveys perspective, it makes a lot of sense. They can’t help but be scared of Spamton, they don’t want to be afraid, but they are so scared of that overwhelming feeling of NEO, and, it’s not like Survey has heard anything positive about Spamton’s new appearance. With the “burning hot plate sensation” to “I can’t say anything without being swamped by Ads” it makes sense that Survey would want to alleviate that burden. I really hope that one of the other Ads are able to catch on to Survey’s mental state, and help. Right now, my contester is Banner. Those two seem to be a little bit closer than the others, especially when it came to Spamton. Banner was also the one who noticed Survey’s apprehension and terror when Neo was in their house. This is getting to long LMAO so the summarize, ADDISONS!!! SPAMTON!! PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE ONE LIGHTING THEMSELVES ON FIRE TO KEEP YOU ALL WARM!!!!

To move on, Clicks on the other hand, is kind. For kind people, their personalities are like this:

- Willing to make waves

- Clear, direct communication, even when uncomfortable

- Being true to their own values or feelings

- Helping

- Acting from genuine feelings

Now Clicks isn’t a saint, he’s an asshole and a drama queen, even he himself admits this. However, he definitely gets the kindness award! As he passes this test with flying colors in my opinion! He doesn’t pull back his punches with Spamton, (like him just telling Spamton to shut the fuck up LMAO) and has the most clear communication with Spam! Spamton himself, recognizes that Clicks isn’t like Banner and Survey who are still trying to test the waters with him, rather, he treats Spamton like an equal. (Even if his sense of equal is just being an asshole). Clicks has also show to value his own feelings, especially with the latest chapter! The reason it took him this long was because before, his feelings were just a giant ball of ???. Once Clicks was able to understand and get through his emotions he was able to have a better understanding of Spamton and his character. (Clicks knows that Spamton hated being that white Addison, Survey is trying to make Spamton that white Addison). Throughout the story, Clicks has shown to have a remarkable sense of body language understanding as well as trying to respect Spamtons boundaries. An example of this is when Spamton thought he was being interrogated by the other ads, and when Clicks senses his discomfort, he tries to drop the topic. Even though he’s an asshole, he definitely wants to be there for all the addisons are a strong shoulder, as well as a protector. Clicks is notorious for making waves, (all with good reason!) If someone like Survey had to have the heart the heart with Spam like Clicks had, I feel like Survey would say something like, “Everyone is capable of change Spamton! And we all want to change for the better and help!” But Clicks is just like, “you are the most egotistical bastard I have ever met. Shut the absolute fuck up.” LMAO I love this guy. Clicks isn’t a nice guy, but he is a kind guy. And that goes a lot farther in my own opinion!

To conclude, Clicks is able to empathize, while Survey sympathizes. Both are so complex it’s so good rararjdndjskdkdnd !!!!!!!

i've gotta say reading this ask/analysis (asknalysis?) has got me smiling from ear to ear because of describing something so accurately i couldn't put it into words better than this

one, i'm extremely thankful for this, and tysm for your thoughts! They're always a pleasure to read especially as i see that so much of these addisons have actually got across :'D

i really really really like writing morally grey characters, and using the kind versus nice personalities is such a great way to describe their moral differences! Surv is definitely trickier, because as you said, they're not evil, they just got a lot going on. they are apprehensive, and definitely walking on eggshells because they have no idea to actually approach this situation other than wanting it over with. Their persistence to find out what happened to spamton in pt 1 was fulfilled (for better or for worse), and being "nice" is what he needed then, to be brought down from his rage and resentment towards them as a group, while kindness is what he needs now. So Survey's inadvertently putting themselves in a worse position, creating divide, just because their approach that worked before isn't working now. And it's not their fault while at the same time, yeah, being their fault. i rlly like this line "setting themselves on fire to keep the rest of you warm" it like 1. is perfect for this and 2. goes hardcore

Without spoiling too much I do believe you have it right :D though Banner isn't in a position as extreme as Survey here, the whole thing is certainly messing with him. He doesn't want to make the wrong decisions anymore about what to do with Spamton's situation, finding it odd and uncanny, rather than devastating like Survey. He wants to make things right, but doesn't have the tools right now to do so. He wants to help, probably more than anyone else, but unyielding optimism isn't going to work and he knows that :')

you're also right about what would have happened if Surv were in Clicks' position then. There wouldn't be much of a resolution other than Survey going back to what they've seen had worked before- talking Spamton (and the rising emotions) down. When said emotions and concerns, instead, needed to be acknowledged and translated to make any progress. With Clicks, processing how he's felt for so long and what Spam's feeling now, it helped them both in one conversation and connection. Spamton's a lot like the addisons than he cares to admit, as he's been one of them at some point, so being an equal is what he's wanted, but then when he never got it, it turned to wanting to be 'bigger' than them, and thus the spiral/decline. Clicks being kind, noticing visual cues of discomfort rather than being impatient with getting information out of Spamton asap when he finally starts talking, is going to make Spamton feel more like an equal and less a belittled outcast, or worse, a freakshow. And though addisons always have their own selfish motivations directing their actions, the outcome of Clicks' approach is pretty selfless in the end.

I'm also so so so glad to have readers that see the differences in empathy versus sympathy and nice versus kind! like, just the subtle differences between each approach, in where each side is commonly seen as synonymous, when in context, they can vary from each other in large ways!! It's enlightening even as a writer to see :D! tysm for sharing!

His attention was drawn however as Wei Wuxian pressed into his side, hugging his arm and smiling while pointing out a nearby Jewelry stall. “Look at those Lan Zhan!” and he was soon dragged over, ears and cheeks so lightly dusted with pinks it wouldn’t be visible on first glance.

Lan Wangji was quiet, watching Wei Wuxian instead of asking him why he wanted to come over to look at jewelry and rouge. He calmly watched the other gaze at the small, delicate earrings and different colors of rouge, Not even realizing how softened his expression had become.

Wei Wuxian lifted a pair of earrings that were delicate, adorned with red, gold, and mother of pearl. “Look at these, Lan Zhan. Wouldn’t these be pretty on me?” He turned his head to grin at the other man, only to pause and smile even wider. “Lan Zhan! Are you blushing??”

Lan Wangji’s eyes widened minutely. Was he? “No.” He turned his head, avoiding eye contact with the other.

“Should I expect the world to collapse soon?” Wei Wuxian teased, a laugh escaping his throat at what he felt was likely a lie from the man. He couldn’t remember when he became quite this good at reading the other’s face, but he wasn’t complaining. “Have I finally warmed this cold jade’s heart?”

“Wei Ying…” Lan Wangji sighed subtly exasperation, “If you’re not going to buy anything, we should go.”

Wei Wuxian’s eyes turned up in crescents, unable to help the mirth bubbling up from his chest in waves. “Hey, I never said I didn’t want anything! But it’s fine, You’ve already spoiled this stray so much.” He pats his chest, then places the earrings back down. “Robes, a ribbon, earrings, a hanfu cloak, shoes! As much as these are lovely, I couldn’t ask for more.”

Lan Wangji picked up the earrings and a rouge that matched well his companion’s skin tone. “There is no need to ask.” He quietly answered, handing payment to the vendor and walking away from the stand after placing the two items in Wei Wuxian’s hands.

Wei Wuxian was stunned for a brief few seconds, but then snapped out of it just in time to run after the other. “Lan Zhan! You really didn’t have to!”

He fiddled with the small box and small tin of rouge, walking in silence beside the other for a while. It didn’t take him long however to spiral into his so called bad habit he hadn’t been able to shake since his awakening- flirting with Lan Wangji relentlessly. “If you wanted to see rouge on my lips you could have just said so.” His grin turned awfully pleased when he managed to darken the color on the jade’s ears further. “Did you want me to try it out just for you?”

Lan Wangji’s short fuse was immediately burned out. “Shameless.” He muttered, trying to find an out. “We’re in public.”

“Wow, bold Lan Zhan. You want me to show you in private?” Despite how shameless he acted, that one even made him flush in quite a deep color. He laughed it off however, running ahead and pretending like he was just being his old naïve self again, despite knowing better.

Lan Wangji had never been so publicly scandalized.

rambling about her team under the cut:

Valerie’s pokemon were difficult to choose… I wanted her to have a relatively uncommon fire or fighting type for her bc because 1. I just think those types fit her, and 2. she used to be a spoiled rich kid, so i doubt she’d accept just any old pokemon for her partner.

Litleo:

chosen as her starter for its fierce personality and also bc its normal typing coincidentally gives it immunity to ghost types.

Probably lazy 90% of the time but gets super aggressive when challenged. It isn’t very interested in ghost hunting unless its perceived territory (the apartment, school, and/or nasty burger) is under attack.

Maybe has a personal grudge against Cujo? (havent decided on a pkmn for him yet tho...)

The other option for her starter was Vulpix bc its evolution is characterized as “spiteful”, which i think matches her pretty well lol. Some of the fire starters would be… okay for her, but I wasn’t a fan of any of their final evos.

Riolu:

baby pokemon gifted by Vlad. Perfect IVs/EVs, trained with dark-type TMs, has Foresight to negate ghost immunity, yada yada. It’s been raised from birth to be Valerie’s ghost hunting partner and doesn’t know much else about the world.

As Riolu grows older and its ability to sense aura/emotions increases, it begins to doubt its training, leading to it refusing to hunt Phantom because it knows that he can’t possibly be evil. (This attitude gradually spreads towards other ghosts as well, but Phantom is the trigger. Alternatively, maybe Ellie is involved somehow?)

Riolu and Val get into a big fight over it and Riolu runs away, forcing Valerie to confront her grudge against ghosts or risk losing her partner forever.

Riolu’s admittedly a bit of an odd choice for ghost hunting since it doesnt have type advantage, but I’ve grown quite attached to the idea of Riolu/Lucario’s innate sense of justice coming to a head with Valerie’s quest for vengeance. And also Vlad not thinking his plan through by gifting her a pkmn known to detect ill intent is very funny to me… like why didnt u give her a pawniard or scizor or smthn?? congrats u played urself

Riolu has no idea half-ghosts exist btw! Vlad kept it in the dark so it wouldn’t turn on him or reveal his identity. it suspects SOMETHING is up with danny though, which leads to some awkward staredowns at school. (also going by pkmn game logic: riolu can’t see through illusions without attacking first, so danny’s hisuian zorua is safe so long as it assumes another form)

im trying to avoid giving out too many shinies but shiny riolu just fits val’s color scheme sooooo much better. lets just say vlad wanted to show off REALLY hard that day, ok? being one of the few ppl in school with a shiny poke would make her less unpopular than she is in canon, but she still doesn’t rejoin the A-lister crowd.

riolu being so recognizable does mean it has to wear a disguise when ghost hunting tho (which makes my red huntress sketch non-canon lmao). it either wears a mini huntress suit or just a black cloak!

[ Open Orbit ] Stage 120 Clear VOD

I was previously hard stuck on this stage for quite some time; since 04/21 according to my earliest blog entry about this stage here. What originally started off as a meme attempt run turned into an actual CLEAR!! After a few attempts in the second half that is... (ᵕ—ᴗ—) Before I go in depth about my experience some notable information about this fight-- Stage 120 is the final stage that's currently available in the Deepspace Trials until the next big update in July. Like all x0 stages it requires two teams: Team 01 uses 6-Emerald memories Team 02 uses 6-Violet memories. TBH, I'm still in shock over this clear. I really didn't expect to clear it using the memories and protocores I had equipped. Literally awestruck as I'm writing this, reflecting on everything. Below are my thoughts and reflection about this wild adventure, as well as my final team set up and stat attributes.

BEFORE AND AFTER

Here's my before and after team set up for Open Orbit - Stage 120. I want to note this change was made as a meme/suggestion amongst friends during Xavier's Shimmering Moonlight limited-time banner. It was due to me getting super duper lucky with my pulls, which I will write about soon. Originally I wanted to respect the Protofield Stellactrum and match the colors for the perfect match and additional bonuses. I usually try to match the stellactrum because every bit of stats helps. However, I also want to mention that there have been instances where I opt to go off color and attempt to brute force it. For the record, this would be the most notorious one I have ever brute forced. It's not that I haven't attempted to brute force this stage before. I have. My Violet build with Rafayel was lacking in CRIT and I wasn't entirely satisfied with the protocores I rolled. So I tried to brute force it with my Zayne foreseer build, using his highest leveled memories. Usually that build carries me hard since it has a duo rank i bonus. however I still wasn't able to clear it due to lack of damage. My plan was to farm for more protocores. Specifically look for better delta cores with CRIT rate as its main stat and upgrade the ones with better substats to swap out what I currently had equipped. It's a long grind. Protocore farming is the true gacha in this game, unlike the wish pool where you're guaranteed a memory from pity. You never know what you'll get or if you'll even see what you're looking for. Well, like I mentioned earlier I got really lucky with my pulls for Xavier's banner and came out with his new myth pair at Duo Rank 3. I had cores from my SN build I could have used, but since I didn't need oath recovery anymore (duo rank ii bonus replaces having to equip that stat) I had two options to choose from-- Expedited Energy Boost or Oath Strength. So I tapped some beta cores to see what I could work with. You know, the usual trial and error testing. As luck would have it, as I was gambling my protocore upgrades I somehow managed to roll 2 Expedited Energy Boost cores with similar substats. A friend who was watching me tap away suggested that I try to brute force the fight again, but this time use my new Xavier solars/EEB protocores for the second half and use Zayne for the first half. I'm always down to try new things. So we decided to science it. Xavier's Moonlight myths is my first duo rank 3 pair. I was genuinely curious to see if it would be possible to clear open orbit - stage 120. Narrator voice: Lumiere cleared the fight with flying colors. (even if it did take him several attempts during the second half, hehe) The disrespect though lmao. It just goes to show you that there is no right or wrong way to play the game. Match the colors. Don't match the colors. You should use whatever is available to you and works best for you. Just have fun with it ⸜(｡˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡

I love your art! (I clicked on your art tag and started scrolling.) What is your process for creating a piece? Do you usually look at a single reference photo which you draw from? Do you somehow incorporate photos into your drawings by drawing over them? (I did that once on a tablet.) Or do you use another method? Thanks!

my process is a bit all over the place (I've tried to describe it before with not much success, maybe now I can do a better job hahaha) but yes I always need reference photos, I can't draw anything from my imagination :( sometimes I use more than one picture, but most times I think I use just one photo that I really like and want to reproduce.

when I'm feeling super inspired and I have a lot of free time, I draw from observation only. And then if I get stuck on a particular spot that I feel I can't get right, I overlay the reference picture and make the necessary adjustments. I've been replicating images for such a long time that nowadays I can usually overlay the original over my drawing and 90% of lines match 😅 And when I draw on paper I do the same thing, I place the paper over my screen to check if the lines are where they should be, but always retroactively, first I draw then I check.

I actually started out drawing everything upside down! I learned that technique with another artist (I took a course when I was in high school 15 years ago), cause apparently if you flip your reference upside down, a house stops being a house, eyes stop being eyes, a mouth stops being a mouth, so you can focus on distances between points, lines, areas and proportions only, without thinking "oh a mouth looks like a little cartoon bird on top of a minimalist boat" or whatever, but rather "this shape is about the same size as that one, and is positioned in relation to that other one and that other line..." So that's sort of how I learned to draw/replicate I what I see (if that made any sense). And replicating a photo is much easier than drawing reality cause a picture is already 2D, when I'm drawing something real I have to convert the 3 dimensions to 2 in my head and I often get a headache by the end of the process lmao

Sometimes I don't have the time or energy (it takes a lot of effort from the brain to do the observation thing) and in those cases I do some lines over the reference pic just to get key areas, then I delete the reference layer (of course I keep a copy in another corner of the screen so I can keep looking at it) and paint over the sketched lines till they mostly disappear.

I think painting is the most fun - either in color or b&w - getting the shades to blend and the painting to look realistic is the part that I like most.

I usually paint on photoshop but I recently got a tablet and I've been trying out new software on it. I mostly require a soft brush with opacity varying with pressure. I start out by doing blocks of color and then I blend blend blend.

I often think that my art is not very good (sometimes I question whether it's art in the first place), cause the only thing I'm good at is copying what I see, and because of that I've been trying to play more with colors and textures, trying to make my paintings a bit more different than their reference photos, a bit more "artistic" idk. I wish I could do more stylized stuff. But the realism can be fun too, it relaxes my brain after a whole day of PhDying.

The nail polish fell out of the bag and onto the floor as you dumped it out, tossing the bag to the side you started sorting out the colors. “Ok which one do you like?” You asked as you lined them up in order.

“This one.” Bruce pointed at a color, you grabbed the bottle and lined it up with one of his fingernails, making sure it’d look right. “Hmm, ok. Pick another you need an accent nail, something that matches though.” You set the bottle you were holding down.

“Why do I need an accent nail?” He let out an over exaggerated groan, a small smile appearing on his face so you knew he was joking. “Because it’ll look nicer!” You started lining up random colors next to his hand and the other bottle of polish he picked out to make sure it’d match.

“Y’know this is coming off before I go back out into public, right?” He raised an eyebrow as he let out a small giggle, “Oh cmon! I’m gonna put all my hard work into this and you’re just gonna throw it away?” You gave him a fake hurt look.

“Yes, yes I am.” He leaned closer so he was eye level with you, “Fine.” You groaned, “Gimme your hand.” You jokingly snatched his hand and rested it on your leg, grabbing the bottle of nail polish.

A small blush appeared on Bruce’s face, looking down in attempt to hide it, though it didn’t go unnoticed by you. “Do you wanna paint mine when I’m done painting yours?” You glanced up at him, twisting the top off the bottle.

“Cant promise that I’ll be good at it but yeah, sure.” He looked up at you, smiling. “It’ll be fine.” You shrugged, you carefully ran the brush over his nails, making sure to make it even. Bruce took the fact that you were occupied focusing on his nails to his advantage, staring at every little detail on your face.

He adored the way would slightly huff in annoyance anytime you’d accidentally mess up and get the nail polish on his finger, you glanced up at him through your eyelashes, catching him staring.

“Don’t fall in love with me.” You chuckled in a cocky tone before looking back down at his hand, “Too late.” He mumbled under his breath, all your movements halted as you looked back up at him.

“Hm?” You raised an eyebrow, “What?” He faked his confusion, scared you might’ve heard him. “Oh, nothing, just thought you said something.” You stared at him for a moment longer before returning to painting, you heard what he said, you just didn’t want to give it up just yet.

“Ok, give me your other hand.” You said as you set the one you just got done with on the ground, careful not to let his nails scrape against anything. He placed his other hand on your leg, scooting a bit closer this time.

A small blush crept up on your face as well as a smile as you started your job on his nails, “What color do you want me to paint your nails?” He asked, looking down at the other colors in the pile. “Same colors I’m doing yours.” You said quietly, he nodded.

A light rain could be heard hitting the roof of the house, gradually getting louder as the clouds got darker.

A few minutes passed and you were done, “Ok, my turn!” You smiled, admiring your work on his hands before setting yours down in front of him, handing him the nail polish. “It’s probably gonna look like a 4 year old did it, I’m not good and keeping my hands steady.” Bruce giggled, looking up into your eyes for a moment before looking back down at your hands.

“It cant be that bad.” You shook your head and smiled, he began painting your nails, he was doing ok so far but then the sides came and it sort of got messy. He let out a laugh as he tried fixing it, only to make it worse.

You stared at the way he was so entranced with the trying to make it perfect for you, letting a small smile form on your lips as you watched him.

Once he was done with one of your hands you brought it close and inspected it, “It doesn’t look that bad.” You gave him a smile before he snatched your hand so he could inspect it. “You’re lying to me.” He narrowed his eyes at you with a small laugh.

“I am not!” You faked being offended, your free hand going up to your chest as you let your mouth slightly hang open in a fake gasp. “Yeah right, give me your other hand.” He tried to subtly let his hand linger on yours for a second but you noticed.

As he began painting again he carefully took into detail every little scratch, freckle, mark, every small thing about your hands and placed it into his mind. Call him creepy but he didn’t care. “Ok maybe this one won’t turn out as bad as the other.” He giggled, almost forcing himself to hold his hand still.

The last nail came and he was slightly disappointed because it meant he wouldn’t be able to have an excuse to hold your hand anymore. “Ok, done.” He smiled, looking at his ‘expert’ work.

“It’s not that bad, I promise.” You examined them, “Thank you, thank you.” He bowed, “I still did better though.” You looked down at his hands, “Ok, time to take mine off.” He said in sing-song voice.

“Nooo! Leave it on, at least for a little longer.” You pleaded, snatching the nail polish remover away from him. “Hmmm, no.” He smiled, “You’re gonna have to fight me for it.” You smirked, hiding the remover behind your back. “Bet.” Bruce mocked your smirk.

AHH OK BUT IMAGINE SHOPPING WITH HIM THOUGH? he’s literally so happy that you decided to take him with you when you wanted to buy new clothes, although he knows nothing about menhera fashion himself. he’s a very patient man when it comes to you— if you want to try on new clothes, go for it! no complaints from him no matter how long it takes. he’s also willing to rate outfits that you’ve come up with. you want to spend hours at a specific store? he’s looking around with you and waiting until you find clothes that you are happy with. high chance he’ll also pay for you, he’s not taking no for an answer. (unless you beat him into it, and he’ll sulk for a good 10 minutes or more.)

SPEAKING OF CLOTHING AND SHOPPING… chiaki will suggest matching outfits! he’s so enthusiastic about it as well… will definitely force midori or kanata to take pictures of the two of you.

like chiaki, KANATA is also one who doesn’t really care about fashion outside of idol work and stuff. he just naturally dresses nice and has drip lol (bros beautiful)

kanata LOVES doing your makeup, especially the undereye blush because he thinks it’s satisfying for some reason LMAO. if he’s free, he’s most definitely going all out on your makeup AND will pick out an outfit for you, which he prefers pastel colors instead of the darker ones, so he’ll usually go with those.

he also doesn’t mind matching with you! it’s just not as often like with chiaki, since he doesn’t want to ruin the outfit when he goes out to float in the water (again). BUT HE’S DOWN TO GO ON A DATE WITH MATCHING FITS! he also helps you put on certain accessories and bandaids that fits in with the aesthetic.

kanata’s also a great partner to go shopping with BECAUSE HE’S JUST FOLLOWING YOU AROUND AND NOT COMPLAINING. kind of just,,, letting you do your thing and stuff because he loves seeing you buy and look for clothes that you enjoy wearing. if you’re changing or trying out some clothes, he’s waiting outside the stall, waiting for you to do the grand reveal and he WILL HYPE YOU UP AND TAKE MULTIPLE PICTURES OF YOU!

-hanna and spencer have popcorn mouth catching competitions and emily and aria get really into it

-anytime one of them experiences a breakup, a car ride blasting their designated breakup playlist is mandatory

-emily always wants to play cards at their sleepovers. her favorite game is jin bc she kicks ass, and kent bc its 4 players

-arias fav is old maid even tho shes like always the old maid at the end lmao

-spencers fav game is spit but one time she literally spit on the cards on instinct since she played the classic way with her dad growing up. emily was so revolted that she doesnt allow spencer to play cards anymore

-hanna literally only knows go fish

-they usually try to fit under one blanket during movie time but it doesnt work out that way

-mostly because hanna complains about being too warm (and then complains about being left out of the group cuddle)

-kinda canon but when one of them snaps at another or the rest, no one takes it personally like its so overlooked because their bond takes precedent over anything else

-spencer has a habit of forgetting where her reading glasses are (when theyre on her head) and getting all worked up and screechy about not being able to find it. they do their best not to laugh and when she yells at them that its not funny upon finding them on her head, they just laugh harder

-their cycles are almost always synced. if they arent in need of space from everyone, they watch romcoms and share a bowl of candy salad

-aria occasionally likes playing video games with mike so when theyre at the montgomery house she sometimes convinces the girls to play with her (spencer gets too competitive and SUCKS so she gets rly mad. emily is accidentally a pro at it without trying, and hannas not even trying to follow the objective)

the most gremlin he’s ever been.

hair was messy but still a bit too trimmed imo

the gunk in the teeth was A+ in theory but on stage it just kinda made him look like he was missing teeth. which honestly could also work but it wasn’t the most comfortable for Alex

beard was perfectly scruffed and patchy, looked like a dirty old man that was convinced he could grow a full beard but couldn’t

could use a little more moss around the face but still corpse-like and ugly in all the right ways

Winter Garden makeup:

now THIS is a man that’s just been sitting around collecting dust, moss, and mold for the past three centuries

the subtle dark makeup on the edges of the eye sockets made them look perfectly sunken, this dude absolutely does not sleep.

the cheekbone contour is a little more exaggerated than it needs to be and let’s be real, you just can’t make this guy look like he’s wasting away to the bone. and we love that about him

the moss is so PERFECTLY patchy around the beard it looks like it has its own ecosystem, 10000% chance there are microscopic species yet to be discovered living in there

eyebrows are perfect to me, dark, messy, with the furrow creases accentuated to give him that extra little bastard look

the wig changed around a bit, i like the length of the one on the right but the unkempt-ness of the left

bonus pic because i just think they did so well accentuating the features of his face without detracting from his expressions or overall appearance

9/10 we love this guy <3

Evolution of the Marquis makeup:

gonna preface this by saying do not come at me with “it needs to look dramatic so the whole theater can see!!” because i was in one of the last rows on re-opening night and i couldn’t not focus on what was going on with his face.

the beard.

literally traumatizing, disgustingly thicc and they made it worse by darkening it. looks like something my foot would accidentally touch in the water at the beach and make me scream

as sickening as the beard is somehow making it more fuller makes him look….more put together? it worked a LOT better when it was all patchy and pathetic

can we talk about the forehead slime. what is it doing there. where is it meant to be coming from. and why could they not at least MATCH THE SHADE OF GREEN TO THE REST OF HIM WHAT IS THIS EMERALD SHIT

this makeup look was done by a new makeup swing who i can only guess has never seen the show and was never given even a vague description of what he’s supposed to look like

the forehead slime has gotten out of control. it makes no sense, doesn’t even look like slime (which i’m assuming it’s supposed to be????), attracts way too much attention to the wig cap and microphone, crowds the face

listen. i know some of you like the dark rings because it’s similar to keatlejuice but first of all i have to say he’s not SUPPOSED to look like keatlejuice. these are two very VERY different characters and i think trying so hard to give them physical similarities is pointless and counterproductive to keeping the originality that’s made this show as successful as it is

that being said. i am not OPPOSED to the IDEA of the dark circles but i think they were executed so, so poorly here. i’m not joking when i say when i first saw the pic on the left i thought he was midway through taking his makeup off. they didn’t do anything to blend the edges or make it look naturally sunken and it hides the eyebrows and therefore a big portion of his range of expression

speaking of eyebrows it’s giving how the grinch stole christmas

the beard has gone full-on chia pet. it literally looks like someone grew it in a planter. horrific

anyway. thanks for indulging me while i let all this out cause i am so frightened of what it’s gonna evolve to next. i’m also a little upset at the inconsistency of it all, his makeup design literally changes on a nightly basis these days and that’s not an exaggeration. i get it if they’re trying things out but to change it so often this late in the game is jarring tbh. i’m theorizing they may be trying different looks to see what would be captured best on the proshot and if that’s the case all i can do is BEG them to understand less is more cause i cannot stress enough how little i want to see All That in HD.
