Anilpin and their relationship with food

After watching episode 6 of The Loyal Pin I have some thoughts on the way food plays a role in the narrative. This may be a stretch but follow me. For Anilpin food plays into the aspect of care in their relationship. Pin has been raised to take care of the royal family specifically Anil likely due to their closeness in age and their 'special' relationship.

One of the main ways the show demonstrates Pin caring for Anil is by making her food. This is later weaponized by Anil as a way to force proximity between them. However the show also makes it clear that while Pin doesnt always want to be near to Anil due to her conflicting feelings she does enjoy making food for her (which is for the best since she doesnt have a choice in the matter).

Making food for Anil is how Pin expresses the deep love and care she has for her. I think in some ways it helped her process emotions she didn't have the vocabulary to express wheter that be to Anil or even to herself. Which is why the fact that Anil likes her cooking pleases her so much. It is also why Anil actively making the effort to make food for Pin is important. Its her way of communicating to Pin that she loves her and can take care of her too.

Its also why Pin is so shocked and hurt when Anil refused her food. To her it was like she refused her love. A love she herself couldn't fully accept or even identify yet. With this theme of food being so important in their relationship it makes even more sense for both of them to jump to starvation when faced with certain challenges.

Putting romantic cliches of being so heartbroken that its difficult to eat aside (the scenes definitely play into that but we're analyzing for the analysis sake) Anil refusing Pins food is a conscious rejection of her love because to Anin its not the type of love she wants from Pin. It's 'love' born from a fondness developed through servitude similar to the affection Prik has for her rather than burning desire.

On Pin's end its a bit more difficult to link her choice of starvation directly to Anin's love. Unless you argue that she was weaning herself off of food the 'symbol' of their love while also isolating herself from everyone especially Anil effectively weaning herself off of her actual love and affection in preparation for her departure. That may be a reach though since the surface level understanding of being lovesick and heartbroken with the whole "I can't eat without you, I cant sleep without you' works just fine." Something can be thrown in here about the importance of food and sharing food with loved ones in asian cultures but I'm not qualified to speak on that. Also the obvious correlation to their partnership with that Thai ministry to promote their foods.

If we stay with the food equals love thing the scene where Pin refuses to make something for Kuea but immediately agrees to make Anil that same dish is 10x funnier.

It’s that time of the year again

no offence but the reason tumblr is “dying” is, well, yes, of course the cursed like/reblog ratio and the change in user behaviour (because of people being used to how instagram and tiktok work) BUT also the lack of weekly shows. i say it with my whole chest, they don't produce captivating and engaging stupid weekly tv shows anymore because streaming killed that so you have spikes of activity here when Something happens in general fandom or up to three days after a new season of whatever drops and then it's a wasteland. this is obviously an old woman yelling at a cloud missing supernatural and the vampire diaries and pretty little liars and all these other shows type of post but honestly give me back weekly tv shows where i have something to watch for 40 minutes almost every day of the week after work so then i can read and reblog it on tumblr give it back for the sake of my sanity
