Thinking about Erik snapping at Charles with “well maybe you should have fought harder for them” and the pain in his eyes when Charles told him they didn’t want the same things.
#cherik#going insane Erik sitting in that awful cell thinking that Charles will never rescue him but he’ll still know Erik didn’t do this#and him learning Charles thinks he’s a murderer a monster - the one person who had never thought that of him besides his parents - and that#Charles thinks he did do it and he hates everything so much because if Charles gave up hope on him if even Charles is unwilling to fight for#him anymore maybe he truly is a monster and killing raven for the future is just a who he is#thinking of how much it would break Erik of Charles called him a monster to his face#‘you abandoned us all’ but what he means is you abandoned me! you sent me away and you let me rot in prison and you gave up on me#anyways!!! the way Erik wanted Charles to fight for one thing and that was him and he didn’t!! he just gave up and sent him away#listen ok I know Erik left him bleeding on a beach with no way of getting out of there but man I will always be side Erik in the divorce#look at the day the man had!!! he’s paralyzed by fear when confronting his abuser and then Charles tells him to not kill him even tho Erik-#needed it to feel safe like watch the scene watch it!!! and then he’s facing genocide again and this time he can lift the coin and save his#people. then Charles gets shot and he blames ERIK and then he breaks up with Erik like ok I know he’s wounded and all but the fact the#fandom is like ‘oh Charles didn’t mean for them to go he was shot and mad Erik should know better’#but we’re not like ‘oh Erik faced his childhood abuser and then relived something very similar to his trauma#got blamed for his lover’s injury (and like he doesn’t blame himself for him mom too) and then broken up with. he went through so much#lasting emotional trauma in the span of less than one hour how can he know better’#and there’s like a good explanation for why Charles would still blame him like Erik was wearing the helmet he couldn’t have picked up on all#that depth without one of the senses he relies on. but the fandom being like Erik is the bad person in this instance#it seems unfair. also it screams I’m a gentile honestly.#also you can’t tell me part of Erik wasn’t like ‘maybe he’d be better off without me’ when he left the beach#x men#Charles Xavier#erik lehnsherr#ramble rumble#now just don’t think of ‘let him come’ being Erik hoping Charles will finally fight for him and say they should have been together#and instead Charles throws more unfair (well about raven) blame in his face

Falling For You.
Tumblr media
[REQUEST] spencer reid x BAU!reader but they're in a secret relationship, and basically she gets him to watch all these romcoms, so when he makes a reference to something like Notting Hill or You've Got Mail and then the whole secret is blown.
warnings: mentions of lila archer, spoilers for 90s/2000s rom-coms, co-workers to lovers, love confessions, implied smut, secret relationships.
word count: 2.4k
Tumblr media
It was no secret that the newest team member had a thing for romantic comedies. From the little jokes she made with Penelope to the quote from Pretty Woman on her travel mug, she was a walking Rom-Com reference.
Hotch understood some of the references, JJ would talk her ear off about her favourites, and even Emily and Derek would jokingly re-enact that scene from When Harry Met Sally every time they had a team lunch. It was only Spencer who didn’t get the jokes, and after having to explain them all to him 1 too many times, she finally invited him over to watch some.
The first one they watched together was Can’t Buy Me Love. Patrick Dempsey, a loveable nerd has been saving up all summer to buy the telescope of his dreams when the girl next door accidentally ruins her mom's favourite dress and needs to buy a replacement… he ends up buying it for her on the condition that she pretends to date him so his Senior Year can be his best year yet. Spencer likes the movie overall, he wishes someone in his high school took enough pity on him to make him popular. But his favourite scene is when they go to the abandoned airplane graveyard and watch the stars in his homemade telescope.
“I can make one of those,” Spencer whispers to her.
“Really?”
He nods, “It would be pretty easy… maybe we could go star gazing someday too?” He asks, biting the bullet and making this movie date the first of many dates they’d go on.
The next movie they watch is Never Been Kissed. Drew Barrymore is a nerdy reporter who goes undercover at a high school and gets to relive her teen years while falling in love for the first time. Spencer likes this one because he can relate, he never had his first kiss until well into his 20s… and she was an actress, too. When he explains that to Y/N she can’t believe it, but he has the magazine photos of them saying goodbye after the case to prove it.
“Have you kissed many people since then?” She asks, wishing he’d move a little closer to her and steal one.
He nods, “a few.”
“anyone good?”
He shakes his head, “no, I’m saving the best kiss for last.”
She looks puzzled? “What?”
“My best kiss will be from the girl I end up marrying,” he gives her a smile and moves his hand over to hold hers.
“Oh,” she bites back a smile and looks down at their interlocked fingers. “Have you at least met her yet?”
“I think so…”
“Well, then shouldn’t you kiss her to find out if she’s the right one?” She teases, leaning into his space even more.
“I suppose you’re right,” he teases, he cups her face with his free hand and rubs his thumb over her cheek, “are you sure you’re okay with this?”
She nods and leans in all the way this time. Effectively pressing their lips together. And even for a first kiss, it sure does feel different. It feels like her last first kiss ever.
Keeping it a secret at work is hard when all they want to do is stare at each other with googly-eyes, they’ve fallen head over heels for each other and not told a single soul. No one knows about their movie dates or their real dates either. No one knows they’ve spent a whole night kissing or that they really, really, don’t mind sharing the hotel room with the two queen beds. And they definitely don’t know that they only slept in the one. Together. The whole week they were away.
After the case ends, they head back to her apartment for their mandated 48 hours off with the pan to watch as many movies as they can.
The third movie they watch is You’ve Got Mail.
“Rival bookstore owners hate each other in real life, yet on the internet manage to fall madly in love with one another. Based on an older movie called The Shop Around The Corner, it’s a beloved story brought to life once again by the one and only Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.”
She explains every movie like this before they put it on. He’s honestly only watching them because he loves listening to her talk about them.
“You see, they both have partners in real life but they email each other every day, as friends… but you know what it's like in movies like these,” she smirks. “Best friends who have a lot in common find it easy to fall in love.”
“That they do,” he agrees.
He raises his arm over the back of the couch and she sits back, leaning into his side just as his hand lands on her shoulder. They snuggle up close, she hits play and he watches with glee, not knowing this was going to become his favourite movie by the time it’s over.
His favourite line is when two cars honk at each other and their drivers get out to argue, followed by Meg Ryan saying “Don’t you love New York in the fall?” Which is something Tom Hanks says to her in an email earlier that morning.
He loves the way the old man recalls a woman of his past and called her “enchanting” because what a wonderful thing to say about a woman.
He giggles when Tom Hanks tosses aside Pride and Prejudice cause he just doesn’t get it the way Meg's character does. But ultimately, he picks it back up because he wants to get to know her through her reading history.
“I sympathize with Frank,” Spencer whispers as he brings out a typewriter when they have a perfectly good computer at her house.
“I know,” she laughs. “I love the tablets at work, I can’t believe you still have Penny paint the files out for you.”
You are a lone reed standing tall, waving boldly in the curet sands of commerce. Frank compliments Kathleen, or at least he tries to.
Spencer giggles again. “I remember what it was like being a lone Reid,” he whispers before pressing a kiss to her cheek.
She gets all flustered, so madly in love with him that she wants to scream it from the rooftops but it feels way too soon. They’re only 3 movies into their relationship. Maybe at 10, she’ll tell him. Till then, she looks over at him and steals a real kiss.
Kathleen is so passionate about her books in the same way that Y/N loves her movies. Spencer sees so many similarities between them that it’s really no wonder that Tom Hanks’ character falls in love with her. Passionate, kind, beautiful women will always have a place in Spencer's heart.
Their 4th movie is another Meg Ryan classic; When Harry Met Sally, and now Spencer understands why Derek pretends to have an orgasm when he eats a good salad…
Their 5th movie is Notting Hill and Y/N can tell he doesn’t like it very much because unlike William Tucker, the actress who kissed Spencer never talked to him again after that.
Their 6th movie, however, is Pretty Woman. And while they shared a bed all through the last case, they’ve never really slept together. So watching a movie all about sex and falling in love really didn’t help the frustration they were both feelings. By the time the movie ended, it was almost midnight and they should’ve been getting ready for bed.
She gets up and heads to her room, expecting him to follow but he just stands in her doorway, watching with a bit of anxiety in his gut.
“So…” Spencer asks. “What happens after he climbs up and rescues her?”
She stills, her heart fills with love and she quickly makes his way to him. She cups his face in her hands, staring up at him. “She rescues him right back.”
“Indeed you have,” he leans in and presses a quick kiss to her lips. “You know what all these movies have in common?”
“What?” She has no idea where he’s going with this.
“They all fell in love pretty quickly, I mean just look at Vivian and Edward, it took them less than a week,” he explains. “So I don’t feel too crazy when I say… I love you, Y/N. I love you so very much.”
“I love you, I love you, I love you,” she whispers between kisses.
They kiss and kiss and he walks with her, leading her toward the bed where they fall in and make love for the first time. It's hot and close and emotional. It's slow and steady and perfect. It’s everything both of them have dreamed of when they finally met the one.
—
On their second day off they watch How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, 13 Going On 30, 50 First Dates, A Walk to Remember, 10 Things I Hate About You, and The Holiday. They would’ve gotten to more if they weren’t so wrapped up in one another. By the time they go back to work, they’ve gotten through half of her list of favourite movies.
He’s not sure if it’s luck or coincidence or what… but their next case happens to be in New York.
When they land, they get into their Bureau-issued SUVs and weave in and out of traffic on their way to the scene. They’re honked at multiple times and Spencer just smirks to himself. Its not until they get out and they’re honked at once again, with some guy yelling at them to get out of his way, that Spencer turns to her and says. “Don’t you love New York in the fall?”
She giggles and shoves him, “Shut up.”
“It’s not the fall?” JJ remarks, not knowing why he’d say such a thing or why she’d react like that.
“Hey, isn’t that…” Emily thinks it over for a second. “That’s a line from you’ve got mail!”
“How would Spencer know that movie?” JJ laughs it off.
Spencer turns to beat red with embarrassment. “I’ve seen it…”
“You’ve seen you’ve got mail?” Derek even rides him for this slip-up. “And when do you have time to watch rom-coms?”
“I’ve seen the original,” he lies. “It’s based on The Shop Around The Corner. My mom liked it before she got sick.”
“Okay,” they drop it there.
Thankfully.
And by the time the case ends, 3 days have passed, the unsub has been booked into Jail at 9am and they’re free to go home. If they want to. Derek suggests they all go out for breakfast, and Hotch says he rather go home and sleep. JJ wants to go shopping and Emily’s right there with her.
Spencer on the other hand, he opens his phone and sends Y/N a message.
“There’s a place in Riverside Park at 91st street where the path curves and there’s a garden. I’ll be waiting there for you.”
She digs her phone out of her pocket seconds later and smiles, a small sigh leaves her as her shoulders slump. She’s so in love with him it's unreal.
“What about you, Y/N?” Emily asks her. “Do you want to come with us?”
“No… no, I have a friend in town I want to meet up with.”
“Looks like it’s just me and you for breakfast, pretty boy,” Derek teased, wrapping his arm around Spencer.
He shakes his head, “Actually, I was thinking about going on a little sightseeing adventure, you know I only come to new york for work.”
“Fine then,” Derek drops it and he, Emily and JJ watch as Spencer and Y/N head off, out of the precinct and in different directions. “I bet you ten bucks they’re meeting up.”
“Hold on,” JJ says as she calls up Penelope. “Hey, yeah, can you tell me where Spencer and Y/N’s GPS pings in 20 minutes?”
“I can… why?” Penny asks nervously.
“No reason. Just a hunch.”
When Penelope eventually calls her back all she has to say is Riverside Park at 91st Street and they know.
Y/N gets there first, she’s never seen this place in person before. The flowers are even more vibrant than in the movie. There are bees dancing around every other flower, couples walking around hand in hand, people on dog walks and moms with their strollers. It’s just an average early morning in New York.
And then she sees him. He comes rounding the corner, he’s carrying a bouquet of flowers wrapped in newspaper… at least she thinks they’re flowers.
What they don’t notice is their friends on the other side of the garden, watching them get closer and closer until they’re chest to chest. He wraps his free hand around her waist, she cups his face in her own hands, and she stares up at him like he hung the stars just for her.
“I wanted it to be you,” Spencer whispers what was originally Meg Ryan's line. “I wanted it to be you so badly.”
“You sure did save the best for last,” she knows exactly what he means.
Just as they lean in to kiss, as his lips meet hers, they hear it. Someone is playing “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” just for them. They smile into the kiss, shocked that their life is playing out like a perfectly written movie and then they see them.
It’s their own friends who played it. They’re clapping in the distance, “Woo!!” Emily cheers.
“We knew this would happen!” Derek throws in for good measure.
They can’t help but laugh, Spencer pulls her in for another kiss, a longer, more hearty kiss. He loves her and he wants everyone to know.
When she pulls back, she looks as though she could cry, so he extends the bouquet to her. It’s a bunch of yellow, newly sharpened number 2 pencils tied up with string.
“Don’t you love New York in the fall?”
“Not as much as I love you,” she says as she takes them, gladly. “Not even close.”

i think truly the most absurd parenting scenario we could put sanji in is with Real Pirate King Buggy 🦅🦅🦅🦅
Sanji would really suit that like. commedia dell’arte venetian theatre. Sanji would make a fine Arlecchino or Tartaglia (both lover roles, but Arlecchino or ‘the Harlequin’ is often a trickster character too)
Buggy would unironically be an incredible father tho. like. i am fully confident that there is nothing Buggy doesn’t excell in despite his pathetic soppy wet cat existence. He’s a COMPETENT soppy wet cat.
Sanji growing up as an acrobat in Buggy’s circus and getting doted on by all the crew oh ya know he’d love the dramatic flamboyance of it all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Listen.
Listen, you're cooking. And it smells GREAT! But I think we need to adjust the seasoning a bit. Buggy managed to successfully hide in the East Blue and be forgotten from Roger's crew and all his adversaries. Like Buggy has to be running a network of some sort. He probably has informants in the New World ya know? For sure in the Grand Line.
I don't really fuck with Shuggy ATM(crossguild brain rot) but like also Buggy probably knows about Usopp and Luffy and that's part of why he signed the(forged) adoption papers. Sanji is also probably skilled with all sorts of weapons? His kitchen knives are not weapons but like he has a set of knives that are always hidden on him. He probably shows Usopp a bunch of spices and stuff that are good for bombs and Nami and Robin are confused about exactly how much in universe Shakespeare, albeit Robin is impressed. Luffy just knows but imagine Zoro finds out when the cook, who doesn't fight with his hands just swallows a Marines sword to distract them right before Luffy Gum Gum Pistols them.
Rayleigh talks more about Shanks and Sanji is just looking at his nails and briefly brings up Buggy. And Sanji can't help himself when he says "at least he's not a dead beat, he didn't abandon me" which makes Robin laugh and Luffy and Usopp ask what means and Sanji is like "you both haven't seen the Redhair crew since you were in the single digits, Buggy saw me at Baratie three weeks before you lot wrecked it and he would stop by every couple of weeks normally" And the crew is shook.
Like then Sanji just proudly showing everyone his photo of the Buggy Pirates, him, and Buggy in the adoption office and then again with just Buggy and Sanji and the paper and the jolly Roger. Rayleigh is having heart palpitations as Nami, Luffy, and Zoro scream at how lame his dad is and Sanji is like "oh you guys are the reason he's in Impel Down this makes sense" and Rayleigh is losing it. Shakky is laughing so hard. Rayleigh asks if anyone is planning to get Buggy out of prison and Sanji shrugs and says the lion is in charge now.
And then after the time skip to the forming of the crossguild everyone keeps shitting on. Like imagine Mihawk and Croc walking into Buggy's tent and seeing Black Leg Sanji as a child in full clown get up sitting on his own head in a photo and next to it is the adoption photo. When they ask Buggy about it hes just like "oh yeah, I adopted him at ten. Saw him all the time after he started at Baratie. Unfortunate he's not out of his civilian phase yet." And Croc and Mihawk are reeling. "Then again I think having to relive his trauma in Germa and with Big Mom probably didn't help, oh well. I'll talk to him about it when I see him."
When they see each other is some meeting between the Hats, the Guild and Redhair Pirates Luffy and Usopp are really happy to see their dad's. Sanji is probably being passed around by Buggy's crew and petting Richie who has him pinned to the ground and Crocodile is groaning that the clown's kid did the whole Mr. Prince thing and Shanks is confused because "you didn't tell me you had a brat?"
"well I legally adopted him eleven years ago and when Garp found out he said I was a better dad than you and Roger and Rayleigh so."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You’re unconscious for three minutes. Three long minutes, during which Sarah, Mitch, and Harry all panic about what to do.
“Do we call an ambulance?” Harry asks while lifting you up and laying you on the couch.
“I don’t know!” Sarah replies, her voice wavering with nerves.
“I’ll look up her symptoms,” Mitch adds. “Maybe something online will tell us what to do.”
“Right, because the internet is so reliable,” Harry retorts.
“He’s just trying to get us some information,” Sarah says.
It’s quiet for a moment before Harry replies, “I’m sorry, I’m just kind of freaking out here.”
“I know, I am too,” Mitch says.
Their voices start to break through to you, but they sound far away. You try to reach for them, call out to them, but you’re too weak. You barely manage to twitch your arms and make a quiet noise, which luckily catches their attention.
Sarah kneels next to the couch by your head. She gently moves the hair out of your eyes and starts to stroke your face. “Love, can you hear us?”
You make a small noise which they take as a good sign.
“Great, that’s great,” she says through a relived breath.
A moment later you find your voice and say, “Mom?”
“No love, it’s Sarah,” she replies, instantly worried again.
“I want my mom,” you say. You’re sick, and scared, and confused, and in that moment you desire the comfort your mother can provide.
“I know baby.”
You turn to look at Sarah and ask, “Can you call her? Get her here?”
Everyone in the room immediately stills. Their panic goes up another notch at your question. They know your story. They know that your parents passed away years ago. The fact that you’re asking for her now indicates that you’re extremely confused, which is not a good sign when paired with all of your other symptoms.
“Can you please call her?” you ask again when no one answers you. “Or my dad? He’s normally better at answering the phone.”
“I’m calling an ambulance,” Mitch says to Harry and Sarah.
“What do you think is wrong?” Harry asks.
“Maybe a septic infection, my mom’s doctors gave us the warning signs after her surgery. High fever, dizziness, confusion, basically everything she’s got right now.”
“Is it dangerous?”
“It’s… yea. It’s not good. If that’s what it is then she needs the hospital right now.” Mitch steps away as his call to 9-1-1 is connected and he starts giving the necessary information.
You turn back to Sarah, not following any of the conversations happening around you.
“I don’t understand what’s happening,” you say through tears.
“I know, love. It’s going to be okay. We’re going to take care of you.” Sarah wipes away the tears on your cheeks and you listen as she continues to say soothing words.
Minutes pass with Sarah and Harry by your side, keeping you calm with words and gentle touches.
Mitch walks back in, but he’s not alone. With him are two paramedics. Harry and Sarah move to make room for them which causes you to begin crying again. In your confused state you don’t understand why they’re leaving you, why they would abandon you.
Harry quickly moves to stand over the back of the couch so he can hold your hand while remaining out of the way. Your eyes meet his and you calm down slightly.
The paramedics ask a series of questions which the others answer for you. They take your temperature and check your blood pressure, noting that both are worryingly high. After all of this Harry moves back to crouch in front of you and says, “Hi lovey. We’re gonna take you to see a doctor, alright? I’m just gonna move you onto the stretcher so we can go, okay?”
You barely understand what he’s saying, but as you trust him implicitly, you agree. He lifts you again and lays you on the stretcher. His hand never leaves yours as you’re wheeled out to the ambulance. You look around and Harry says, “Mitch and Sarah will meet us there. They’re gonna grab some stuff we might need later, and then they’ll drive over. You’ll see them soon, I promise.”
His words are perfect and prove just how well he knows you. He understands that being separated from your loved ones when you’re feeling like this will cause you stress, and he reassures you that the separation is temporary.
It ends up being hours before Mitch and Sarah are allowed to see you. The second you enter the Emergency Department you’re surrounded by a team of doctors and nurses. Harry is forced to step away so they can work. You cooperate to the best of your ability and after some of the scariest hours of your life you’re finally in a patient room with the three people you love most at your side.
You’ve been officially diagnosed with sepsis and started on IV antibiotics. While it’s too early to know your prognosis, the doctors commend Mitch on getting you to the hospital so quickly, as time is important when treating this.
Your brain is still incredibly foggy, and it takes all of your remaining energy to concentrate enough to know who is in the room with you. Finally, you piece together that Sarah is lying in the bed with you, Harry is sitting in a chair on your other side, and Mitch is standing at the foot of the bed. You feel safe knowing that they are there and allow your eyes to slide closed as you succumb to the exhaustion you’ve been fighting.
Sarah looks up at her husband and sees his intense gaze. He’s staring at you, barely blinking, tears pooling in his eyes. She knows him well enough to see his inner turmoil. He may not be talkative, or even very expressive, but Sarah can tell he’s terrified.
“Mitch, honey, come here please,” she says quietly. He doesn’t move, doesn’t respond in any way except to slowly shake his head no. His eyes never leave you; it’s as though you would disappear if he so much as blinked.
Harry sees Sarah’s worried expression, and since she can’t move at the moment, he takes action. He first lifts your hand up, pressing a kiss to it before gently placing it on the bed. Harry then stands up and carefully walks over to Mitch. He places a hand on Mitch’s shoulder, but it’s quickly shaken off.
“Mitch-” Harry starts but gets cut off.
“I’m fine.”
“No, you’re not,” Harry replies. “None of us are fine.”
“I can’t lose her.”
“We won’t.”
“You don’t know that! This is serious. Sepsis is deadly. This could kill her!”
“Mitch, come here,” Sarah says again, voice firmer this time.
“No.”
“Switch with me. You need to hold her.”
Mitch doesn’t move until Harry quietly says, “Go hold our girl.”
He finally moves, uncrossing his arms and walking to the side of the bed. Harry goes back to the opposite side so he can hold you up while Sarah slides out and Mitch situates himself.
Once he’s lying on the bed, which is in an upright position, Harry guides you so that you’re leaning against Mitch. Your back is resting on his chest, and he wraps his arms firmly around your waist. He feels the steady rise and fall of each breath you take, and for the first time in hours allows himself to relax and feel relief.
Harry sits in the chair by your bed and again holds your hand. Sarah stands on the opposite side, one hand on Mitch’s shoulder, the other occasionally moving to gently wipe away the tears that silently roll down his cheeks. Only after she’s sure everyone is sleeping as peacefully as possible does she finally sit on the couch in the room and rest.
It’s a long night, the first of many in your hospital stay. You’re barely conscious for most of it; even when you’re awake you can’t fight off the brain fog to understand what’s happening. All you know is that there’s always someone by your side, holding your hand, reassuring you that you’ll be okay. You believe these people, even if you can’t always identify them you know that you love and trust them.
However, for Harry, Sarah, and Mitch, every detail of this experience is deeply engrained in their memories. For Harry, the worst moment is watching your body seize after your temperature spiked. It’s the third day, and Mitch and Sarah are home grabbing some more clothes for everyone. The moment your body starts to jerk Harry is briskly led out of the way by hospital staff so they could tend to you. When you stop seizing they move you out of the room so they could run more tests, leaving Harry standing there alone.
He doesn’t know how long he stands there for, unmoving, unthinking, just in shock. Finally, the ringing of the phone in his pocket breaks through to him. He answers and at the sound of his mother’s voice on the line he finally breaks down.
Sarah and Mitch walk in to see Harry sobbing and you missing. They immediately panic and think the worst. Luckily, their presence comforts Harry enough that he’s able to calm down to explain what happened to them, as well as to his mom who is still on the phone.
To no one’s surprise Anne and Gemma arrive the next day to support all of you. Anne pulls her son in for a tight hug while Gemma sits with you. They switch after a little while, Gemma on the couch with Harry and Anne by your side. You’re dazed still, but awake, and you lean into her touch. She holds you like you’re one of her own.
For Mitch, the worst moment is a couple days later. It’s the middle of the night, everyone else home since hospital policy only allows one person with you at night. The nurse checks you and Mitch notices the worried look on his face. A minute later the nurse returns, this time with a doctor.
After the doctor finishes her exam she turns to Mitch to explain what’s happening.
He’s tired, and scared, and needs to clarify what he’s being told and says, “So her kidneys are shutting down? Her organs aren’t working right? Isn’t that like, the start of the end?”
“They’re not shutting down. However, they’re not working to their normal standard, but there are things we can do to reverse that. We caught it quick, and we’ve started the treatment. I know it’s scary, but please don’t worry yet.”
“You’ll tell us when to worry, right?” In that moment Mitch doesn’t care that he sounds like a little kid scared of monsters under the bed. He needs the reassurance from the professional.
“If it comes to that, I promise to be honest. But let’s hope it won’t okay?”
Mitch nods and the doctor checks you one last time before leaving the room. You’re awake, but groggy, so Mitch sits on the bed with you and sings quietly until you fall back asleep.
For Sarah, the worst moment is actually one evening where you’re awake, alert, and aware of what’s going on. At this point the doctors are allowing themselves to be more hopeful about your prognosis. Your kidneys are working properly again, your heart rate and temperature are staying at acceptable levels, and your labs are showing that the antibiotics are working against the infection.
Despite all of this good news, you know that your body has been through a lot, even if you hadn’t been aware of it at the time. You ask Sarah to be completely honest and tell you everything that you don’t remember. Reluctantly, she fills you in on the details.
You sit with the information for a moment until Sarah hears you whisper, “I’m going to die.”
“No, honey, no, you’re getting better. Why do you think you’re going to die?”
“My family. We- we don’t survive. We thought my dad was getting better and he took a turn and was gone so fast. We die. Maybe I’m supposed to die too. And then we’ll all be in heaven together.”
Sarah holds you close and says, “I know you miss them. And I know that you’re scared. But you have the best medical care, and you’re truly getting better. Just hold on a little longer.”
“What if I don’t want to anymore?”
It’s eerily silent in the room, save for the beeping of machines, until Sarah quietly says, “Please, love, please keep fighting. You have been through so much, but you’re still here. Maybe it’s selfish, but we need you here. Me, and Mitch, and Harry, we can’t do life without you. There’s so much more we want to do together, so please keep fighting. I promise we’ll make life wonderful. You just need to be here to see it.”
You notice the impact your words had on her, and realize you didn’t even mean it, not really. You don’t want to die. But you’re scared to let yourself think that way. You’re scared to be hopeful and positive because that’s when things go so horribly wrong.
You don’t know how to explain all of that, so you settle for promising her that you’ll fight to stay alive. She’s relived by your words, but still worried and holds on to you tight.
Sarah glances at the clock and knows that Harry will be back soon to take over the night shift. She just needs to keep her emotions in check until she gets home.
Once back at the apartment, she rushes into Mitch’s arms. She reassures him that nothing’s wrong with you and you’re still on the mend. She tells him it’s the buildup of emotions that has her this upset. He spends the night holding her as sobs wrack her boy, whispering to her that everything will be okay, placing comforting kisses to her head.
Just like he had done with you a few nights prior, he sings until Sarah falls asleep, then continues to cradle her in his arms.
More than two weeks after being admitted, you’re officially on the mend and infection free. Unfortunately, you’re still very weak and you need to spend a few days there undergoing psychical therapy to rebuild some strength. For you this is the worst part. You’re technically healthy, you’ve been living in a hospital forever, you miss your cats, and you just want to be home.
Everyone tries cheering you up and encouraging you in different ways, which all seem to work. You can tell they’ve been through a lot over the past few weeks so you do everything you can to get home to them.
You work especially hard one day after Sarah quietly and cheekily says, “We want to be able to celebrate your good health after you’re home. You’ll need stamina for that.” You blush at her words and the wink she gives you.
Finally, you’re officially discharged. You thank all of your doctors and nurses before Sarah wheels you out. Harry carries your bags and you all head to where Mitch is waiting with the car.
You enter your apartment to a welcome home banner, Mitch’s parents, Anne, and Gemma. Before you can greet any of them your cats both run over. You sit on the floor, and they fight for your attention, meowing, purring, rubbing their faces against yours.
Eventually they’re satisfied that it’s really you and they move off of your lap. Harry helps you stand back up and spends the rest of the afternoon hovering by your side.
Anne and Gemma make dinner, and though your appetite isn’t back to normal, you enjoy every bite of the homecooked meal. As everyone is eating the dessert Mitch’s parents brought, you start to lose energy. Harry is still next to you, and you lean into him more and more, needing his support.
“Time for bed, love?” he asks quietly. You sleepily nod yes in reply.
You wave good night to everyone, and Harry helps you get ready for bed. He lays down with you, and you can hear voices coming from the dining room.
“Do you want me to ask them to leave? Or talk quieter?” he asks you.
“No,” you reply. “I like hearing them.”
Within minutes you’re asleep, sprawled on top of Harry whose arms are holding you tight to him. You wake up briefly in the middle of the night and see that Sarah and Mitch are on either side of you and Harry. For the first time in a month, you feel content.
Unfortunately, you’re still feeling the effects of your illness weeks later. You’re facing more fatigue than usual. Since the infection had started in your lungs, they experienced some damage and still give you trouble. You try to be a good patient for the others, taking any medicine and treatments the doctors still have you on, but sometimes it gets frustrating the way they baby you.
It comes to a head one day in mid-December while you’re all decorating the apartment for Christmas.
First is Harry telling you to put on another coat while you’re putting lights on your deck outside. You explain the multiple layers you’re already wearing, but he insists that you need the coat, so you give in. You’re sweating by the time you’re done.
Next is Mitch taking over when you’re assembling your artificial tree. Sure, it was bulky and heavy, and the needles always gave you at least a few small scratches, but it had been your grandparents. You’d assembled it for them every year since you were big enough, and completing that task always signifies the start of Christmas to you. But again, you step back and let him take over, knowing that he means well and just wants to help.
The real tipping point is when you get on a ladder to put the star on top of the tree. All three of them offer to do it instead, and then hover around you the whole time you’re up there.
“You’re all being dramatic,” you say as you reach just a little farther to get the topper perfectly situated. You see Harry’s hand dart out towards you, and you roll your eyes.
“We just want you to be safe,” Sarah says as you walk down the ladder.
“I am. I am perfectly safe. Nothing I’m doing is dangerous. I have no desire to do anything that will risk my life. I kind of want to keep living, you know.”
“That’s not what you said before,” Sarah states so quietly, like she didn’t mean to let that thought out.
The room goes silent, Mitch and Harry both looking between the two of you.
“What?” you ask. “What are you talking about?”
“Nothing. Sorry, it’s nothing. I didn’t mean-”
“No, you absolutely did mean to say it. When did I say I didn’t want to live?”
You see the tears fill her eyes and want to go over to comfort her, but you’re frozen. Because suddenly you remember the conversation. And you feel awful. You hate yourself for having said that to her, especially seeing that she’s still affected by those words that weren’t even true.
“One night at the hospital. When you made me tell you everything that had happened to you. And then I had to beg you to fight and hold on for us! You wanted to leave us!”
“Is that true, Y/N? You wanted to die?” Harry asks. Mitch is frozen next to him, staring at the floor like he doesn’t want to hear any of this.
“No!” you say. “I promise, it’s not true.” Finally, you’re the first to move, and you walk to Sarah, gently cupping her cheek, forcing her eyes to meet yours.
“I do not want to die. I didn’t want to die then, I swear. But, at that point, I thought I was going to anyway. I’m so used to everything going wrong that I didn’t want to allow myself to hope. Please believe me, I do not want to leave you.”
She’s silent for a moment and you wipe away the tears that roll down her cheeks.
“I believe you,” she whispers. You share a small smile and press your lips to hers is a chaste kiss.
When you look up you see that Mitch and Harry still haven’t moved.
You pull away from Sarah and say, “Come here.”
The boys listen and you point to the couch, telling all three of them to sit. You choose to sit on the coffee table across from them so that they can all see you.
“I know that you guys have been through a lot,” you start. “And I know it’s because of me. I’ve been on the other side, watching the people I love in the hospital, so I understand what you’re going through. You thought you were going to lose me, and you can’t shake that feeling. I get that you’re scared. But I’m not going anywhere. I mean, I beat a septic infection. I’m more badass than I thought.” This finally shook off everyone’s looks of doom as they smiled at the thought of you being a survivor.
Mitch, who’s sitting in the middle, reaches out to you. He pulls you so that you’re straddling his lap. Harry and Sarah both turn to put a hand on your back, on the same exact spot which causes you all to laugh when they playfully swat the others hand away to claim the spot. Sarah wins and Harry instead places his hand on your head. He turns you to face him and it almost hurts to look at his sad puppy eyes.
You lean over and place a kiss on his lips, before doing the same to Mitch and then Sarah. There’s a moment where no one speaks, and you all just hold onto each other as a reminder that everyone is safe.
After a few minutes you conversationally say, “So, who gets to pick the first Christmas movie?” The remaining tension finally breaks, and you all enjoy the rest of the day together.
It’s not the last moment of fear for everyone. You’ll occasionally notice them being more overprotective, or needing reassurance that you’re safe, but you understand them and make sure to patiently put them at ease every time. It’s been a rough few months, but you feel it’s strengthened the bonds you all have even more.

Before 7x09 I genuinely thought Eddie was going to pull an S5 blowup (like the one he had with Bobby) with Buck when the whole Kim situation goes up in flames because he's in denial about his behaviour and such. Especially coz Ryan Guzman talked about Eddie feeling isolated by the end of S7.
But seeing how today's episode went down, now I'm firmly in the Eddie will push people away camp. When Buck first finds out about Kim, he is so gentle with Eddie because he must know this all is coming from a place of grief.
Chris seeing Kim was so obviously a mistake so I don't see Buck getting mad at Eddie at all but considering the "mom" line from Chris, Eddie would have to say that it's not his mom and Chris relives the heartbreak again which would make Eddie upset at himself.
Plus interim Captain Gerrard and 118 spliting up seems much more likely now that we see Bobby in the hospital. Even when Bobby wakes up, he still retired so I doubt he'd get to have a say in who interim Captain is which is how Gerrard comes back, sending Eddie, Chim and Hen to other stations (there are photos of them with bags and casual clothes while only Ravi and Buck are wearing the uniform)
So those two things coupled together would lead to Eddie feeling isolated because I do not see Buck being mad at Eddie.
He'd definitely worry about Christopher and take care of him but he won't be angry or abandon Eddie in any manner. It's Eddie's tendency to self isolate that will do the work but as we have seen, doesn't work that well with Buck.

Rewatching AP Bio and hear me out, I think it would have absolutely killed as a time loop show.
The first season seems pretty normal; he refuses to teach the kids, he tries to get revenge on Miles, he won’t grieve his mom, and he hates Toledo. Most importantly, he ends up screwing himself over for the Stanford job.
But then, instead of s1 ending with him agreeing to stay at Whitlock he does a Groundhog Day classic and gets hammered, waking up to a phone call the next day informing him that he’s late for his first day of teaching.
Confused but hungover and thinking Helen just misspoke/he mistook the dance for the last day of the semester when actually it wasn’t, he makes his way to school - late, like he was on the first day - so he crashes into the school sign, threatens to fight a guy on the street, then comes in to meet a class full of students who genuinely don’t know him.
So he spends a loop thinking he’s losing his mind, another pondering deeply about metaphysics, eventually he sees an opportunity to better his first round of Miles Missions and actually succeed in landing the Stanford job.
He enlists the kids in countless missions, again and again, but as he does so he starts to get to know them better and better. He becomes more and more inclined to abandon a Miles Mission to do something that helps one of his students. Eventually he starts to feel awful that his actions are trapping these kids in this loop, forcing them to, unknowingly, relive the same semester of high school forever.
Over time, as he realises none of the Miles Missions ever work, he starts actually teaching biology. He also does a decent amount of slacking off, teaching the students how to stand up for themselves, and getting to know them. He allows himself to grieve his mother, slowly, across several loops, and eventually starts to properly make her house his own. Instead of desperately trying to find that 25th woman to sleep with he admits that breaking up with Miles (because it only really works if they’re exes. Why suddenly so obsessed with this man you’ve known for two decades, Jack?) really hurt, and he has no right to be the one acting so cold about it.
In his final loop he’s friends with Durbin, he’s kind to Helen, he makes friends with Mary, Stef, and Michelle. He teaches some - though maybe not enough - biology and helps the students out with all of their personal problems. He redecorates his mom’s house and really settles down in Toledo. He asks Miles to meet him for a coffee and apologises. Miles says something that implies they could give things another shot if Jack moved to California. Jack says that he’d like that, but he’s really settled here, and it’s for the best that they part ways.
He helps with the Carrie plan at the dance, which now goes off without a hitch and really earns him the students’ respect. He then stays late to help clean up, which earns him the teachers’. And then he goes home, goes to sleep, and wakes up to the first day of winter vacation.

We have five books on our radar this week, and there's something for just about everyone here. Which ones are you adding to your TBR list?
Against the Darkness (In Every Generation #3) by Kandare Blake Disney Hyperion
This epic finale to the The Next Generation trilogy by New York Times bestselling author Kendare Blake ( Three Dark Crowns ) features the next generation of Scoobies and Slayers who must defeat a powerful new evil. For generations, the Slayer was supposed to be the chosen, the one girl in all the world with the power to stand against the vampires, demons, and forces of darkness. When Willow used the scythe to call up all the potential slayers at once, it changed everything. For years, the slayers have been working and fighting together as a team. Then the Darkness came, killing many slayers and trapping the rest in an alternate dimension. And Frankie Rosenberg, the world’s first Slayer-Witch, found herself fighting evil alone. Sort of. Sure, she has her new Scooby Gang, plus the help of her mom, Willow; Watcher, Spike; and even the brooding-but-hot Hunter of Thrace. But even though they have a master plan (obviously), the gang is more fragmented than ever. So maybe it really is up to Frankie—and Frankie alone—to stand against the darkness. With Jake’s wild werewolf brother back in town, Dark Willow threatening to return, and the Darkness preparing for the final stage of their attack, now is not a great time to wallow in teen angst. After all, she’s the Slayer. It’s time to slay.
And Then There Was Us by Kern Carter Tundra Books
A mother's death forces a teen girl to reevaluate their tumultuous relationship in this powerful coming-of-age novel for teens. For fans of I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter. Coi is just eighteen years old, but has already survived years of physical and verbal abuse from her mother. After being kicked out of her mother's house at age fourteen, Coi has lived with her father, and together they've created a peaceful life. That peace ends suddenly when her mother dies. While Coi struggles to find kindness in her heart for the woman who only hurt her, she starts having lucid dreams, forcing her to relive moments of abuse and emotional trauma that eventually led to Coi's abandonment. Her mother's passing also reopens the door to her mother's side of the family, including her beloved younger half-sister, Kayla, her stepfather and her grandmother. Each of them challenge Coi's long-held views about her mother, especially Kayla, who, Coi realizes, is taking their mother's loss hard. As she reconnects with her family, Coi learns to see parts of her mother she never experienced, and for the first time since she was abandoned, opens her heart to forgiveness.

TFP Agere Headcanons
Tumblr media
Human edition!
🚁Agent Fowler:
Tumblr media
🚁Father Caregiver!
🚁Kind of confused at first, but Lord help you if you insult any little/pet in his care.
🚁Very good at setting up routines for littles who benefit from it.
🚁He finds the biggest stuffed animals in existence bc his Gramma showered him with toys as a kid and he'd be damned if his kiddos didn't deserve to be spoiled too! (Even if said kiddos are 70+ feet tall)
🚁The kind of CG who loves to watch movies with the little ones, he just has to remember that horror movies probably aren't good for regressed kiddos.
🏥June Darby
Tumblr media
🏥Mama Caregiver!
🏥Total doting Mama: cute nicknames, gentle tones, forehead kisses, the whole nine yards! Raising Jack was a hard time for her since her husband left, so reliving motherhood is very healing for her (similar to Ratchet)
🏥Very good at dealing with meltdowns, June has a very soothing presence that helps to calm any overwhelmed or upset kiddo.
🏥Tag teams with Ratchet to keep little ones safe; she may be small, but all she has to do is say something and they instantly stop.
🏥Has nicknames for everyone, and they love it! She makes each one unique to them.
🏍️Jack Darby:
Tumblr media
🏍️Big brother caregiver!
🏍️Like Fowler, a bit confused, but if it helps Arcee feel happy and safe, he's all for it!
🏍️He cares deeply for Arcee as his partner and friend, but absolutely adores her when small!
🏍️He becomes Arcee's official caregiver rather quickly, and Jack encourages Arcee to talk about her regression to help her feel more comfortable with it.
🏍️Like his mom, uses a lot of nicknames; he calls Arcee Putty Tat(and immediately got her hooked on Looney Toons bc she had no idea what it meant.)
🏍️He takes care of the other little ones as well, and is good at talking down an upset kiddo. He also makes amazing snacks for those that eat!
🎸Miko Nakadai:
Tumblr media
🎸 Caregiver/little sister regressor! (Age range: 5-9)
🎸She was absolutely all for the whole regression thing; she thinks Wheeljack being a wolf regressor is the coolest thing!
🎸At first she was only a caregiver, but found that she really enjoyed slipping into that smaller headspace. She had a lot of expectations laid on her as a kid, so being able to just relax and be a kid is a nice feeling.
🎸If you thought she was hyper as a big kid, look out! Little Miko is a calm and sweet baby one moment, then a ball of energy the next.
🎸Miko is definitely the "don't tell your mama about this" type of caregiver. Mama Bear Ratchet always finds out though. She still doesn't know how.
🎸She absolutely has to be near Bulkhead when little. Miko still has nightmares of the incident with them getting trapped in the abandoned mine (which she hasn't told anyone), and if Bulkhead isn't in her line of sight there WILL be a meltdown.
💻Raf Esquivel:
Tumblr media
💻Toddler regressor!
💻Since he has a big family, Raf often doesn't get any exclusive attention from his parents. Because of this, he enjoys being little at base and just being cuddled and loved.
💻 Bumblebee acts as a big brother for Raf, as usual. This dynamic is magnified when they're both regressed.
💻He actually doesn't like using the computer when small, he prefers to color or play with the toys they stashed at base.
💻 Nobody can say no to him; if he puts his arms up to anyone, they're immediately scooping him up. He most often goes to Miko(because she spins him around to make him giggle) and Ratchet(because he feels so small and safe when Ratchet cradles him close)
💻It's hard to understand Optimus because he has a difficult time talking when small, but Raf is one of the few besides Ratchet who can understand him. Because of reasons, no one really questions it.
Nicknames:
🚁Agent Fowler: Flower (an adorable mispronunciation by OP), Dad, Papa Bear.
🏥June Darby: Mom, Mama.
🏍️Jack: Jackie, Bro, Big Bro.
🎸Miko: Sis, Little Monkey, Wild Child, Rockstar.
💻Raf: Baby Boy, Honey, Sweetspark (courtesy of Ratchet)
Hope you enjoyed these, Decepticons next!

It's Too Cold For You Here
Tanjiro journeys by himself in a snow storm to his old home, while Nezuko stays and sleeps at Butterfly Mansion. Giyu Tomioka catches sight of him near his home village and follows at a distance to see what he is up to. He watches Tanjiro grieving at his old home for his family, wandering around and sitting in his house like a lost soul. Unable to leave him, he steps in, and eventually convinces Tanjiro to leave the bloodstained place and follow him to a Wisteria House, where the boy finally opens up about his heartbreaking reunion with his family in the dream world and how he left them crying after him and how much he misses his parents, as well as how he had to take his own life so many times to escape. He admits that he hates himself and blames himself for not going home that night and relives the cruel words that his 'dream family' said to him. He admits he relives the whole thing every night and is so exhausted and emotionally beaten he barely eats or sleeps anymore.
The dream world for Tanjiro...I am so sure just about broke him mentally and emotionally. He has not told anyone because it was so painful, so Giyu is the first to learn and I am sure he is inwardly heart broken for the boy, even if he is so stoic and gruff. But he can see how much damage it has done to Tanjiro and because he cares for him, he is concerned.
Maybe during the conversation Tanjiro also opens up and shares things about his dad and mom and siblings so Giyu gets to learn more about his family as well as who Nezuko was as a human.
It would be cool to get a lot of Giyu's inward thoughts on the boy, past, present, and future, as well as what he is thinking while listening to the boy.
Angst comfort fic, with stoic Giyu comforting Tanjiro to the best of his abilities and getting him to eat some supper. Platonic cuddling and sleeping?
Hiii, I don’t know if this is exactly what you want me to write, maybe I made some changes, but I left the main focus as you wanted, I hope you like it anyway 💛💛

Gyuu Tomioka was climbing the cold mountain, the air there gave him a headache
It wasn't the first time he visited that area, not really. He had already gone there the first time he met the Kamado twins
The town there seemed bustling, despite the intense cold of the winter that was beginning.
Some people wished him good morning as he passed by, but Gyuu didn't respond to them, because he wasn't interested in talking to other people at all, he had something to resolve.
Shinobu Kochou had informed him that Tanjiro Kamado had disappeared that night, leaving his sister sleeping peacefully in the rooms of the Boboleta Mansion.
Wasn't that common for Tanjiro to disappear like that overnight? Go out without him sister? Run away and abandon everyone?
These questions certainly didn't make sense in his head.
So Gyuu used reason to understand where Tanjiro had gone, and the answer was this mountain
He thought of all the possibilities of what could happen as he climbed through the deep snow.
He stopped in front of a small house, humble, cozy, on top of the mountain.
And he heard a very familiar sound
As he got closer, he realized that the sound was coming from someone crying.
Tomioka's heart accelerated and he ran into the place
Yes, Tanjiro was kneeling on the carpet on the floor. He cried, as if all the scenes he experienced there were happening now
The man felt a pang in his heart, how cruel life was for that little boy.
“Tanjiro-“ Gyuu said
The boy looked back scared, but calmed down when he saw who it was.
“What happened here, Tanjiro?”
The boy opened his mouth to speak, but couldn't say anything.
Gyuu sighed
“Come here” he extended a hand to help Tanjiro up, but when he pulled the boy, he brought him into a big hug
Tanjiro was a little confused, but relief spread throughout his body, he stopped crying.
"You are hurt?" Gyuu asked, referring to the boy's bloody leg.
“Y-yes” he finally said “I got stuck in some bushes on the way here”
Tanjiro took a few steps back and Gyuu saw that he was limping.
“Come on” Tomioka signaled to Tanjiro “come up here”
The boy did as he was asked, he climbed onto Gyuu's back
And in that position the two descended the mountain
Gyuu really wanted to ask what was happening, why Tanjiro was like this. But would the boy want to tell it? Gyuu doesn't see any reason why someone would want to tell him a secret
But he should try, for the boy's sake
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gyuu left Tanjiro alone in a room in the Butterfly Mansion and went to look for help for a moment.
He was afraid of what sadness could do to him
The man ran until he found Shinobu
“Please, Kocho, some medicine” he panted after running so desperately
“Tomioka, what happened?”
“I found him, Tanjiro”
Shinobu opened her eyes wide and ran to her room.
In just a few minutes, Shinobu had prepared bandages and medicine for the boy.
"Are you well?" She asked. Tomioka could see that the fake smile wasn't even on her face, she was worried
“Yes” Tanjiro replied, but without smiling like he always did.
Shinobu looked at Tomioka, she got up and went towards the door
“Tomioka, please come here”
The man did as he was asked
“Please, I fear that Tanjiro is reaching the point of irreversible sadness, talk to him, you are still the one who helped him, the one who allowed him to become who he is today”
Tomioka sighed, he looked away from her, he wanted to help, he really wanted to
“You’re like a big brother” she asked “think of him as Sabito, okay?”
Tomioka was scared, he didn't remember telling Shinobu about his life, but... but...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh yes, it was on a day like that. Tomioka was found wandering in the mountains looking for the place where Sabito had been buried, he ended up slipping on the snow in the mountains and fell, all the way down the hill.
He remained on the ground, all broken, just waiting for death, when someone came close to him. They were two beautiful women, he remembers, they were Kanae and Shinobu Kochou
They carried him and took him to a beautiful, large house, in the room where they placed him there were several sick people, injured like him.
Then the woman with pink barrettes in her hair approached him.
“What’s your name, hunter?”
Gyuu looked at her, he wasn't a hashira yet, nor was Shinobu, just Kanae
“Gyuu Tomioka”
Kanae sighed
He could see that Shinobu was staring at him, but when he looked at her, she looked away.
“Why were you climbing the mountain, Tomioka?” Kanae asked.
Gyuu didn't respond
The woman seemed worried “it’s okay, if you need anything you can call me”
Then Kanae left the room, leaving Gyuu and Shinobu alone.
A long moment of silence was broken by Shinobu
“Did you know anyone from there?”
Gyuu felt a pang in his heart
"Yes"
The woman looked at him “who?”
Gyuu didn't know why he should tell Shinobu about this, but he felt like he should. Did she make you feel confident? What was that feeling? He barely knew her
"It's a long story…"
"I am interested"
Their gaze met
Gyuu felt hot
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The feeling that someone cares about you is very good, Gyuu wanted Tanjiro to feel it too
“I’ll take care of him” he said, placing a hand on the woman’s shoulder.
"Thanks"
Gyuu Tomioka entered the room again
Tanjiro was curled up on his bed, lying down, sad. Gyuu sat next to him
“Do you want to talk, Tanjiro?”
The boy sat down “talk about what, sir?” Even sad he was impressively polite
“About why you were on that mountain”
Tanjiro sighed, he covered his face with his hands, Gyuu heard the sound of crying
“No- there’s no need to talk, only if you want to” Gyuu said worriedly
The boy calmed down “I want to talk”
Gyuu looked at him, the more relieved and calm expression, different from the bored and sad one that was always on the hashira's face, made Tanjiro feel calmer and calmer.
“So get started, I’m here to listen.”
Tanjiro said, once he started talking he didn't stop. He told about when his father died, about what Nezuko was like when she was human, about his mother and his brothers, about the day he slept outside and never stopped blaming himself for it, when he discovered that they were dead...
Gyuu really didn't imagine Tanjiro's life was so difficult
Finally, the boy ended by telling about the dream he was subjected to by that inferior omnimoon, the terror he felt at having to take his own life so many times, having to abandon his family even though he knew none of it was real.
“It was torture! Psychological torture, that shitty oni, I hate it! I hate them!” Tanjiro started screaming, getting out of control, the boy never did that, he started hitting the bed hard
“Tanjiro!” Gyuu exclaimed
Tanjiro looked at him, his eyes swollen with tears.
“I know, Tanjiro” the man took one of the boy's hands “I know what it's like to lose everything you have, I've lost it twice myself, I lost my whole world, and it's all my fault”
Tanjiro wiped his eyes “and what did you do?”
“I didn’t let myself forget who I always loved. I haven’t forgotten the sister who protected me” he pointed to the red part of his clothes “and I haven’t forgotten the friend who saved me” he pointed to another part of the clothes, which had colorful patterns
“Do you visit the place of their death?”
“Every day I can, but I'm careful, so I don't fall and hurt myself, like you.”
Tanjiro chuckled, then Gyuu laughed too.
“Thank you, Mr. Tomioka” Tanjiro lowered his head smiling
“I'll always be here for you, boy” Gyuu rubbed a hand on the boy's head, ruffling his hair “it's okay to be sad sometimes, right?”
"Right"
Gyuu got up
“Sir, one last thing”
The man turned around “yes?”
“Could you see what Miss Aoi is cooking? It smells soooo good” Tanjiro smiled
Gyuu was surprised by the boy's good mood and started laughing. Tanjiro had never seen Gyuu laugh so much, and he thought it was one of the best sights he had ever seen.
Yes, Gyuu was like a teacher to Tanjiro, but they were great friends, because their lives were never that different, right?
details about my better teenhood dr bc im losing my mind over it
(TW: MENTIONS OF SA AND STALKING and also i get real emo, my apologies)
okay so first of all, im not really reliving my teen years in their entirety- im shifting back to being 17, only a few days after my birthday.
mainly because some crazy shit happened on my 17th birthday in my cr, and it ended with me being betrayed by two of my 'best' friends during a big fight, who sided with my assailant/stalker instead of me. the day i spawn in is the day that happened. and i know that sounds stupid, like why tf would anyone wanna relive a day like that. but im gonna slightly tweak it.
in this reality, i was raised by my badass aunt Isla (fc Daphne Zuniga). she's like a big sister/aunt/best friend/mom all rolled into one, and we're extremely close, and she's very protective of me.
in my cr, no one defended me. i've taken to referring to myself as the 'attack dog friend', because i have always been the one to fight for my friends, to send paragraphs to people that hurt them or get in somebody's face for groping them, ect. but no one ever did the same for me. same goes for when my two best friends blamed me for what happened, and my other friends didnt even mention the situation. everyone kinda stopped talking to me after that.
but in my dr, i have a group of super close friends that defend me from the two that betray me. they send paragraphs to them, block them, and support me. my aunt ends up on the phone with their mom and absolutely loses it on her lmfao T0T
my reasoning for shifting back to quite possibly the worst day of my life is because i wanna fix it. i want to know what it feels like to be loved and supported instead of abandoned. this is my way of healing i suppose.
ON A LIGHTER NOTE here's some cute shit im excited for <3
-me and my best friends are gonna go to this big ball in a couple months, one that i went to with them in my cr, i just really wanna experience it again, it was so fun.
-the ball is where me and my dr crush end up confessing to each other JFAOIWEJRKANEIAJW
-MY CATS AND DUCKS AND COW :D we have three girl black cats, Arson, Murder and Mayhem. we have four ducks, Table Lamp, Carbohydrate (Carby), Heeby Jeeby, and Choi Soobin. and we have a brown cow named Annaliese that my little sister named :)
-my little siblings <3 Phoebe and Eric. they're fraternal twins, 9 years old, and born on May the 4th (the girls who get it, get it)
-Phoebe is like those creepy ass kids on horror movies. she's quiet, usually, and she always looks like she's plotting world domination. she's insanely smart and very sarcastic. she's obsessed with bugs. im a teeny bit scared of her lmfao. her face claim is Mara Wilson
-Eric is the sweetest little guy to have ever existed. he loves to sing and draw, and is very giggly and silly. he annoys the shit out of Phoebe T0T (she still loves him tho) he's very sensitive and very empathetic. he always cries when he sees a stray dog or cat and is always trying to convince us to take in strays. his face claim is Eric Lloyd.
-my aunt/mom Isla is very weird and very eccentric and very funny. she's very spiritual, like i am, and taught me how to astral project, manifest, reality shift, do tarot card readings, cartomancy, spells, stuff like that. she knows i'm a shifter, so i can tell her about my other drs and she tells me about hers. we always script each other into our drs <3 she's a giant feminist and she took me to my first protest when i was like 10. she's soft and kind but she'd 100% kill a man for me and my siblings. she's rollin with the lgbt like me, so i can be queer openly <3
-SLEEPOVERS AND 3AM SNACK RUNS WITH THE DUDES. TRAMPOLINE PARK WITH THE DUDES. ROLLERSKATING WITH THE DUDES. HIKES WITH THE DUDES. ROADTRIPS WITH THE DUDES. im gonna have a freak out i miss my friends so much.
-i scripted a tweaked version of the Leverage: Redemption plot into this dr. Breanna is a part of my friend group, and she and i are hopelessly pining after each other (until the night of the ball IFHAOIHEFH)
-dear god my clothes T0T i cannot wait to play dress up fr
-all the women in my family have psychic/empathic abilities that develop around the age of 10. we also have occasional prophetic dreams/visions.
-i never got to meet my maternal grandmother Joyce in my cr, as she died a long time before i was born, but i scripted she's still alive in my dr and we're very close. im finally gonna get to meet her T0T i cant wait to hug the shit out of her. she was so amazing yall i cant wait to get to know her.
-i have one of those pink american flags with Chaewon from Lesserafim on it lmfao. i love being a patriot <3
Foxtrot Alpha Alpha - Chapter 32
Tumblr media
Pairing: Hangman x Female OC
Word Count: 1547
Warnings: Talk of death, PTSD, talk of suicide, swearing
Summary: Hangman learned his lesson a long time ago to never show his true feelings when someone's words or actions hurt him. To do so showed weakness that could be exploited, and Seresin men couldn't show weakness. Of course, there was an exception to every rule, and Jake's always came in the form of women, three in particular: his mom, Juliette Kazansky, and the girl whose name he could no longer bring himself to speak. She was the girl that got away; she was his biggest 'what if' and his biggest regret; she would forever be the ghost that haunted his dreams. Jake believed that's where she'd stay, for he would surely never see her again after what he did.
Or so he thought.
Notes: This is the sequel to India Lima Yankee; I'm using the same callsign for the Female OC as in Ghost Story because I just really like it, but they are different characters; chapters in italics are flashbacks.
Chapter Songs: Fire Away Afterglow
****
All these years, Ghost had believed Hangman abandoned her, that he never came to visit. All these years, Hangman had allowed her to continue believing that rather than confess the truth. But why?
As if sensing her question, Hangman continued, "I'd just watched the medics try to resuscitate Ghoul after she coded when I stepped into her room. I offered to be the one to break the news to you when you woke up since her death was my fault. I went to your room and stood outside for probably ten minutes, watching your heart monitor beep slowly and steadily, convincing myself you were okay. My foot barely hit the floor in your room when you started coding, too. I don't know what caused it. I never asked. But after that… I- I couldn't bring myself to see you again. I'd killed Ghoul, temporarily killed you, and just by trying to see y'all. I was terrified if I tried to see you again, you'd code a second time, and that the medics wouldn't be able to bring you back. So, I stayed away."
Tumblr media
"W-why did you never tell me?"
"I blamed myself so fully- and still do since we're bein' honest here- that I convinced myself you would too. I could see how upset you were whenever I did see you, and I couldn't- I couldn't face you and hear the words I thought you might hurl at me, the words I already told myself every night, so I would leave before you could reach me. It was one thing if the words came from me; I could chalk it up to survivor's guilt. But coming from you..." Hangman chuckled humorlessly. "I never cared much for people's opinions unless they had sway and could get me where I wanted to go, but you- you were one of the few whose words meant everything to me. When you defended me so firmly at the trial, it was the first time I thought you might not hate me like I'd convinced myself you did, but I was wrong. When we exited the room and locked eyes, I saw the hurt and the anger, mainly the latter. You could've burned the world with the flames of rage in your eyes. Then you turned your back on me and walked down the hallway, essentially telling me to fuck off, which you had every right to, and the little remaining hope I had left disappeared."
Hangman rubbed his face with his hands, then tipped his head back against the wall to stare at the ceiling. Ghost noticed the tics in his jaw while he mulled over his next words. "I relived that crash every God damn time I closed my eyes. I saw it every time I went up in the air for a year. I wouldn't let my wingmen fly directly behind me. I pushed everyone away. It was easier that way. That way, no one could hurt me, and, more importantly, I couldn't hurt anyone else."
"But I still don't understand why you never told me you visited. If you told me this back then, I would've understood, Jake. It was traumatic for everyone involved."
"Because I was a coward. Seresin men, we- we tend to break things. I swear we're cursed. Look at my father with broken his marriage, Nick with his embezzlement situation, myself-" Hangman scoffed, and Ghost saw a glimmer of unshed tears in his eyes. "I kill people without meaning to. Killed you, killed my mom, killed Ghoul, now my father… that's what I do. Seeing my mom in the hospital and die in front of me the second I went into her room traumatized me, and I never liked hospitals after that, but I chalked it up to shit luck. Then I went to see you and Ghoul after the crash, and when Ghoul died upon my entrance, I figured it was a shit coincidence. Then you died and- and I realized I was the problem. I believed if I tried to see you again, you'd die a second time. I couldn't risk that. It sounds stupid to say I'm cursed, but it's the only explanation. After all, one's an accident, two's a coincidence, and three's a pattern. I believe it to this day. It's why I couldn't bring myself to see Phoenix and Bob after their crash. It's why I couldn't go to the hospital when Princess passed out at the beach. If I went, it would've been the death of her. My father's death just adds to the proof of my curse. God, even halfway across the country, and I still killed him."
Ghost swallowed the knot in her throat. All this time, it'd been a severe misunderstanding with horrible pain and PTSD on each side. She wanted to cry in frustration, but her gut told Ghost to keep it together, that Jake held something back. Taking into account his rambling explanations and apparent inability to currently stop talking, Ghost pressed on. "You're not cursed, Jake; if Juliette were here, she'd tell you the same thing. As awful as the coincidences were with me, Ghoul, and your parents, they were just that: coincidences. I'd had water in my lungs, and Ghoul and your mom had bleeding of the brain that they didn't catch in time. None of that was your fault."
Tumblr media
"My mom died because she picked me up. You and Ghoul died because I cut you off."
"Which you wouldn't have done if you thought it would put us in danger, and it wasn't the crash that killed her. Her parachute failed to open. That's not on you."
"It still happened, though. Y'all wouldn't have had to eject if I hadn't cut you off in the first place."
Ghost reached over and laced her fingers with his. "I don't blame you. I never have and never will. I just wished I would've learned this sooner. Then maybe we wouldn't have been the way we were all these years. I'm sorry for not giving you the chance to explain sooner."
"You did, but I balked. Every fucking time, I balked."
"But you told me in the end. Thank you for telling me everything."
Ghost froze when Hangman slid over and rested his head on her shoulder. He sighed and closed his eyes. "I'm sorry I couldn't bring myself to tell you sooner. You should thank Coyote, too, come to think of it. He's the only reason I'm here right now, whether he knows it or not."
"What do you mean?" Ghost's blood ran cold at his words. She'd swiftly understood how Jake's upbringing and trauma from his childhood caused his reaction when the accident happened, but these words… only one thought came to mind, and she couldn't bear to even go down the road of consideration for them.
"After the trial, realizin' you hated me, the nightmares, the knowledge I'd killed Ghoul, I started thinkin' the world would be better off without me. All I did was hurt people. I walked too close to the edge of the hangar deck and stared at the black water, thinkin' how easy it'd be to jump in and disappear. Javy found me, but I don't think he realized his impeccable timin'. He told me to not get so close to the edge and just chatted with me. I couldn't figure out why he was speakin' to me after all that happened, but it stopped me from jumpin' that day."
"And the days after that?" Ghost asked, voice barely above a whisper. A weight- unrelated to Hangman's head- rested on her shoulders at the newfound knowledge of his inner turmoil.
"Spite. Javy knew how to get through to me, said why I should keep flyin' and own the new callsign. Told me if I gave up on the Navy, it'd prove my father right about me. That was all I needed to hear, but I never forgot the pain, and I decided outside of Javy, I would never let someone else in. Held that promise to myself until I met Jules, but even she doesn't know all this. She'll find out sooner or later. You women always find out everythin' whether us men want you to or not…"
Ghost waited for Hangman to say more, but when he started snoring, that gave her the answer. Ghost squeezed her eyes shut and pursed her lips, desperately attempting to stop herself from crying and waking him up. He needed to be the one comforted right now, not her. Maybe if she'd been there for him, maybe if she'd gotten her own head out of her ass and released her anger long enough to talk to him, had given him a chance to explain, then those suicidal thoughts never would've entered his mind. Ghost had come so close to permanently losing Hangman, and she hadn't learned of it until six years later. Had Coyote not shown up when he did...
Tumblr media
The brutality of the truth hit her like a tidal wave; no matter what she did, the silent tears flowed down her cheeks. She tilted her head and rested it atop Hangman's, whispering so low that she was barely audible, "I love you. Forever and always, I will love you."
fuck it, ravensong rant
More like Thomas Benett hate but same thing
😭 I can't stop thinking about ravensong. And not in a good way. The more I thought the more stuff I didn't like about the book. Fuck me. Don't take this to heart, Gordo...
Ravensong: Gordo's Emotional Torture Pack
This is so messed up in a lot of ways. I fucking hate Thomas. I don't usually swear often I swear...
Gordo's father pushed the knowledge of magic upon an 8-years old kid arm by drilling tattoos all over his body. And who held it down while the kid is tattooed? His father, his pack's Alpha, and... I'm fuming... FUCKINGSHITASS THOMAS. I'll get to you later Thomas you prick. THIS IS CHILD ABUSE!!
His mother is telling her the truth when she said wolves lies, wolves would used him. In both instance during his time of Abel's and shitass Thomas' pack.
His dad cheated. He knows about it and he saw it.
He saw his mothers memories being manipulated, literally by magic.
Having to be a complicit in believing the crazy disease of his mother.
His mother turned to be a murderer because of, yes, his father is a power-crazed cheating scumbag who doesn't care for her or his son or the family.
His grandfather taught him fixing cars, and then somehow dies before they could hey awah from town.
Being put into the responsibility of the packs witch at the age of 12 just after he's turned into orphan. This is violating child labor laws... Fucking Abel I hope you rot in pieces.
Choices, choices, choices, all the choices that pushed into him. Once again wolves are liar about choices.
Abandoned by his pack. FUCKINGSHITASS THOMAS decided that he should leave the pack. Because others didn't trust humans. BUT DO YOU, THOMAS? DO YOU TRUST HIM? All of this without talking to Gordo first. Fuck him.
Being put into a /mate/ position and then ghosted for months. Having told to wait for YEARS! Barely contacted by the bennets and even more so Mark because what? And even after he said he regret it, I still can get around why can't he text? Send letters? Say hi? Fucking send pigeons??? Liars, Mark. Whether he intend it or not he still broke his promises to Gordo.
His father figure Marty died and. Fucking bennets don't even answer calls. HE IS GRIEVING AND WHERE IS HIS PACK? WHERE IS THE HOWLING SONG OF SORROW? FUCK YOU ALL. Rico Tanner Chris my loves...
The time the Bennets returned, they didn't even. APOLOGISE. NOT ELIZABETH. NOT MARK. AND OF COURSE NOT THOMAS. FUCKING COWARDS.
Having his tether being taken away by who? FUCKING BENNETS AGAIN. Thus basically dragging him into their whole business. THE AUDACITY TO ASK FOR GORDO'S HELP WHEN THEY. LEFT HIM. UGSHSHS
Thomas first contact with Gordo after leaving was to. Fucking threaten Gordo for a help. SLIME. SLIME. I don't care that he begged for it. He can't even. Fucking apologize.
Kept being pushed to "make talks" with Mark despite Gordo being the one wronged here. Everyone is complicit. Fucking Team Humans. Joe and Ox. Carter and Kelly. FUCKING ELIZABETH. Y'all have no rights.
Fucking Mark stalling his apologies and even when he touched a bit on why they left, it was when he's turned gonna be turned into omega💀 he's better tho because THOMAS?? Saying sorry after death over dreams like what was that
RELIVING HIS PAST AGAIN and seeing it unfold once again. fuck. tj klune....
HE HAVE TO LOST HIS ARM?? AND COPE WITH IT?? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU TJ KLUNE
Ugh... UGH... I'M SO... I MISSED A LOT. I KNOW. UGH... I HATE IT HERE. I HATE THOMAS BENNETT. this book is just. Torture. For gordo. Am I babying gordo too much. Yes, and what about it???? THE BENNETS GOT AWAY WITH BEING EMOTIONALLY MANIPULATIVE AND I. I HATE IT HERE. UGHH.....
Ok I think I'm good now. Writing this was liberating.
LOVE SONG IS ABOUT ELIZABETH AND...
...
...
FUCKING SHITASS THOMAS? DO I SKIP
Are they gonna. Are they gonna redeem Thomas because I will SKIP.
then again Elizabeth... She's like... The queen. And also the mom to joe. And Carter and Kelly... I will read it for you queen...
Realized I finished Mushoku Tensei S2 and never posted about it on here. It was good. I liked it. Stuff from all over the place that I liked (loooooong):
Rudy tries a rebound relationship with a girl like Eris, he absolutely beefs it in a way that is very understandable
Said failed relationship actually also ruins his relationship w/ all of their mutual friends (this shit actually happens IRL)
Erectile Dysfunction is a major plot point
He gets another father figure (he seems really drawn to those) who treats his problems seriously and practically
Show continues to have sex as a core element and is actually pretty normal about it (including being p respectful about sex workers)
Fitz making Rudy question his sexuality
Having someone else who got isekai'd in a way completely different from Rudy
Said person wanting to go back to non-isekai and that making Rudy feel like shit for all his regrets
Sylphie actually having an elaborate, but awkward plan for making Rudy remember her (and it totally succeeding)
Finding the love of his life doesn't automatically solve Rudy's ED issues (they actually need medication for it, but the combination gets him there)
Rudy almost reliving his abandonment trauma and crying when she comes back in the morning
The question of "How do you get married?" being answered with "You get a house together, I think"
Rudy bouncing back and being a total horndog once his ED is fixed, to which his wife can only go "Oh, Rudy" and embrace him happily
Norn
Norn is just great, they made her a mirror for Rudy, one where he can help save his old self, but also her own person
Norn is a great reminder of where Rudy came from, that he really is that privileged now even if he has his own problems, AND the he can still be criticized in world
She's someone who can like Rudy, but can never really fully accept him for his faults
Perfect that she is the one who pushes him to go to save their mom
Nice little tidbit that teleportation is funky w/ time
Orsted stores his clothes near teleporters lel
Rudy saves Roxy in a way to make me genuinely believe she falls for him before she knows who he is
Her being saved doesn't actually make her look helpless, she somehow survived in a dungeon for a whole-ass month
Paul is still his same old flawed self, but he gets to actually show off in front of his Son and look cool
He foreshadows that he's going to have The Talk with Rudy later, but the talk is about Polyamory and he hints at with a dual-wielding metaphor
The dungeon boss is actually some pretty stereotypical video game monster
They have to back out of the fight and regroup
Paul acting irrationally as soon as his wife comes into the picture
Rudy metagames about burning the Hydra's heads, but it doesn't feel cheap because it's just a video game monster
The hydra attempting to ripoff it's burned stump to regrow it's head, and the dungeon group being able to handle that and adapt in real time
Rudy and us being unaware of Paul's fate until we see it at the same time
Zenith not even being okay after the fact
The man god really lived up to his word, Rudy really did regret going there even if he couldn't choose anything else. Horrible pain was waiting there for him
Roxy taking advantage of Rudy. IMO it was so satisfying for his childhood crush, this girl we knew was going to become a real romantic interest that has been hanging over the plot since early season one, to enter his romantic life at a point that is so messy
The woman who is cursed to have sex all the time, who is about to commit to a monogamous life, gives him the polyamory talk
That he walks into it knowing it will be messy and upsetting, but that doesn't mean people won't be happy, I mean his dad, mom, and maid are the perfect example of that
Norn is the one who tells him off, and she is both right to and wrong to (think of your sister Norn!)
Sylphie is actually very accepting, she p much expected this when he was going on a big trip ("well he's not going to have me to fuck"). There's a real power to accepting your man is a complete horn dog and loving him for it.
Sylphie and Roxy actually get along v well and I totally buy it (v shippable)
Norn starting to learn swordsmanship to take up her Dad's sword (Rudy was not going to do it)
Rudy coming to accept that despite him coming into this world with his past life's worth of knowledge, Paul really was his father
This whole combined season has really made it a point for this world to simultaneously attach Rudy to it more AND confront his regrets from his old one. It's nice. It's like it's a good isekai story or something
Stuff I didn't like (much shorter, but still v much problems):
The story was a little too homophobic with how it had Rudy "no homo" his way into denying Fitz was a boy
Just make Rudy actually thinks he's bi. You don't have to go through the process of actually accepting it before the Sylphie reveal, the story is much less homophobic (also it would be make the dual-wielding talk with Paul even funnier)
It does the "Ethical Slave Master" thing
why you should vote for david brittlesbee in the @epicdivorcemantournament. a powerpoint presentation (tumblr post) by me:
•in just the pilot episode of mythic quest david gets excluded from company meetings, has his assistant abandon him for another guy and calls one of his workers ‘mom’
•he’s the boss at a video game company but the divorce fucked him up so badly no one accepts that he’s even a boss (this kinda shifts in s3 but eh. spoilers)
•oh yeah his parents also got divorced. so. y’know double whammy innit. just one divorce after another for this poor little meow meow
•“are we at your divorce trial right now? because i just watched a hot asian chick rip out your heart”
-brad bakshi, s1 e10
•my man CONSTANTLY uses divorce to project onto his workplace. whenever the main characters fight david always draws comparisons to his divorce (especially in s2)
•to score david a date the aforementioned brad had to train him to talk to women using a simulator called ‘divorcee dance party’
•he did score a date though. only he forgot her name and the relationship lasted like six episodes. the reason they broke up? he got down on TWO knees and BEGGED for marriage. slay queen
•also before using the dating sim david used pictures of his wedding day on his dating app profile. and a video of him reviewing bikes. that’s a crucial piece of information too
•his ex wife kicked him out of his own home forcing him to live in motherfucking cerritos (op in br*tish and has no idea what a cerritos is but assumes it’s something to describe as ‘motherfucking’)
•“you know who didn’t have trouble finding a man? your ex-wife”
-poppy li, s1 e2
•in an episode where each character got given a workplace animal personality thing david got wolf and spent the episode bragging about it. only he did the test the wrong way and turned to be a butterfly. this isn’t directly related to divorce but i do think it’s pathetic of david
•when two of his employees (amongst a couple others but they’re irreverent rn) quit to work at a new company in the basement david was so fucked up by this that he was implied to have almost attempted suicide. we stan a depression-ridden mess who would rather kill himself than lose his found family and relive the trauma of his divorce. heart emoticon
•anyways here’s a compilation of david being Pathetic for your entertainment
Currently reliving my childhood trauma through watching my parents raise their dogs.
The first one we got because my mom has always had a dog. She's never lived without one so we aught to have one. He is anxious with neurotic tendencies that desperately seeks attention from those around him. Despite getting a dog for the express purpose of companionship my mother has always said she hates being needed all the time. The needier those around her behave the more that she despises them. The more she sends the dog to his kennel for being annoying and pushy. She buys him expensive toys but then leaves him alone with them until he gets bored and abandons all pretenses of play.
Then she decided she needed to get him a friend, since he was so lonely. She brought home an incredibly energetic puppy with abandonment issues who was dumped by his previous owners. But instead of imprinting on us, this dog chose his dog brother to become attached to. To play with, pester and annoy all hours of the day and night. They play all across the living room and kitchen. The sight somewhat sweet if not obnoxious. They play until the older dog is worn down and tired in his ankles from constantly being chewed on. Then snaps at his younger brother to be left alone. Often seeking cover under one of our legs to hide from his brother.
Both live in too small an environment for their size, both big dogs relegated to a small trailer house. They get let out to exercise several times a day but only by me, no one else. They beg for attention though. Licking and nudging and poking. Bringing toys to anyone that they can reach. barking and whining for it. More often than not they are brushed away.
And the area in which they do live is perpetually filthy despite my never ending crusade to clean it. Both are so large and averse to water that it is difficult for me to bathe them by myself. No one else helps. Their fur covers most surfaces. The couches and carpet stink of them. The floors slick with water and drool that they've spread across it. Blankets in their kennels slightly browned from the dirt and oil.
No one else pays them much mind. Only I do. feeding, watering, and exercising them. Making them gut healthy treats. Training them. breaking up fights. Making new toys and puzzles. Throwing the ball. Cleaning up the vomit and letting them out several times a day.
But I take no joy in this. I do not want to be wanted or needed by these creatures either. Creatures I made no choice to obtain or keep. I often say my life would be so much easier without them. This is a true fact.
I don't know why my mom chose to have pets she refuses to care for.
She scolds me for harshly correcting the dogs. For barring them from the hall where we keep the litter box, in fear they'll get an intestinal blockage. Scolds me for letting the couch covers get stinky, then scolds me for shooing the dogs away from the couches because "they already don't have enough space."
So she is aware of their environment. Aware and yet unashamed in her choices that led to this. To animals who pace and play until they're panting on the filthy floor. who beg for love.
She enjoys the superiority of being nice to them. Of comforting them and speaking softly when I have scolded them. She enjoys feeling kind and soft and nurturing. But she does none of the work.
I do not love the dogs. But I make the best life for them that I can. The same way I did for my sister growing up. And I resent her for that.
