shri’iia developing her sunlight sensitivity after the tadpole disappears since the protection it gave (assuming that it’s also protecting them from external factors bc astarion is able to walk under the sun) disappears with it. and struggled to get used to the sunlight because she’s now more sensitive towards it…! everything is brighter, much more sharper - similar to when she crash landed and saw the sun for the first time but this time everything is much more vivid. and now she’s squinting a lot more because everything is bright to the point that it hurts her eyes, and she’s frowning more as well (to which astarion tells her to stop or else she’ll get more wrinkles 🙄) and she’s covered up from head to toe every time she goes outside bc I imagine she gets sun burnt quite easily too.

anyway I think at one point she decides to only go out when the sun is setting so it’s less painful for her - which also works for the both of them since astarion can’t go out under the sun as well lol

There will always be many things - always doors and pathways and things better left unopened, pathways she should have explored - and even so, who is to say the outcome would be any different? Try as the good lady might, she cannot piece together where it all went wrong - cannot figure out the moment where she knew things had changed; only that they had, and our lady would trade all her riches to set things as they once had been - if only to see Meredith smile once more.

The silence between them, once so comfortable, stretches - she does not sit; straight edged and stiff, shoulders haunched and the sensation travels from the pit of her stomach and up to her mouth, tying her tongue into knots - The Knight-Commander even looks different these days; more monster than woman, with eyes that blazed like coals, alight with a fury - a mania - that she cannot recall seeing, and does not wish to glimpse; her own eyes focusing on the corner of Meredith's desk, the edge of her hood, the weak light that filtered through the windows. She will not look, she will not, will not, will not, must not - but she's been here before, hasn't she? Not with the Knight-Commander, no; but with others - she remembers - perhaps the space might not have been the same, and the face before her, too - or perhaps it was. Perhaps it was always Meredith. Perhaps they had never been right, perhaps it had been ordained in stone - perhaps it was a curse, to love, and love, and love, and to find herself here, over and over again, fists clenched, and what she knows to be the acrid taste of fear in her mouth, sharp and bold as fresh blood.

You must always choose sides.

Have I? She has. And while the good lady may not believe she has - she's stood at Meredith's side long enough and listened, listened, listened - there is a war, there was always a war - and Meredith had never lied to her before, within her memory. Within her knowing. Had she not stood here years ago, and told her she, too, would take up arms to defend what had been a safe harbour against all enemies within and without? Had she not provided them the means to outfit a glorious army? The notion sits off centre within her mind's eye - and she thinks not of Templars and Kirkwall and conspiracy now, but of Elizabeth. Always Elizabeth. All I have done, all I will do - for her. To protect her, to keep her safe from all harm - something about birds and cages. Something about even a gilded one still being a cage at the end of the day - keep her from the world long enough, and the world will find her. And Meredith? The good lady had been selfish, wanting her. Having her. Loving her. Not a mistake, no - never a mistake, even now; with the distance between them - but selfish. Human.

"And what if... What if you wake up one morning, and find that you no longer wish to be on the side you have chosen?" How small her voice is, how soft; shaking. The good lady does not sound brave - doesn't feel brave, either. But she can be - and is when she finally meets Meredith's gaze - bloodshot, searing, and she winces. Some days, she looks altogether monstrous. Some days, she cannot bear to look upon her where she used to be unable to look away. Andraste, preserve me - I must continue. And despite how stiff the Knight-Commander is, how rigid she is where she once melted, the good lady closes the gap between them with a shaking hand, pressing against the leather of her glove, wrapping her fingers around tight - she will not easily let go, always holding on too tightly. She looks at the Knight-Commander, then; pleading, begging, silent; and squeezes.

"I can no longer - I - They are saying things about you. Whispering. I do - I do not know what is the truth, Meredith. I cannot - I - I do not want to regret this. I do not want to regret you."

Not that he'd ever ask her to leave, anyway... because even if he felt bad about not being in a great mood, even if trying his best to seem okay: he really was glad she was here. Though he was honestly shocked to see that she prepared some tea for him. Frankly, it was not something he normally could imagine Iako doing. "You made this....for me...?" He was touched...doing this for him, knowing how much he loves his tea. Once she set the tea down on the desk, holds the cup to his lips. From the look and smell of it, it was oolong tea. One of his favorites...

"You even made my favorite kind... Iako, thank you so much, truly." He takes a sip....and...the expression on his face instantly stiffens. "...!?" ("This tasted awfully....bitter? No, overly sweet?! No, not even-!!") "............." Honestly, he couldn't tell. The taste was all over the place.... He didn't even know that was possible to do with tea.....

In fact, the shock was so great, he didn't even feel as sad, anymore....!!!! "......" Without a single word...he continues to drink it. Iako made this for him. He couldn't be so heartless, and not finish it... "Th....Thank you v-very much for the tea, Iako..." ("Urk....")

Standing up, he pulls her into a tight hug. He hope the smile on his face didn't look too frozen...but in all seriousness, he truly does appreciate her doing this for him. He already felt much better... "I'm really glad you came to see me. I hated looking so miserable in front of you, but... I feel much better. I love you... I hope you don't mind.. staying with me for a little while longer.."

An annoyed huff comes from behind him where Iako has been trying to get his attention for the past... hour? Well, it's more of a whine really and she was beginning to think he was doing it on purpose. "Can you just-" She cuts herself off, the first words she's spoken all evening, having just been using actions to try and get on his nerves and hearing how desperate she sounded caused her to pause. " .... Get a little mad, just a little? Come on. I'm so annoying! Fight me!" Like she'd ever actually throw a punch, but he was definitely used to her trying to get him to playfight and she enjoyed it! (Not the main reason being his body over hers, nope!!)

Shuichi may or may not have purposely pretended that he didn't notice Iako silently trying to get his attention this whole time, as he reads his book. As in: he most definitely was doing this on purpose to tease her. Not only because he finds her super cute when she wants his attention this bad, but also because he knows it's not the reaction she wants, as evident when she finally does speak up, and asks him to get mad at her.

"Hmmm...." Pausing in his 'reading', he closes his eyes, seemingly in thought, before turning his head to look towards her, and playfully bop the top of her head with his book with a teasing smile. "No. I won't get mad no matter how much you want me to! Also you're not annoying."

But even he couldn't be too mean and tease her forever; plus, he's sure she won't stop until he indulges her and playfights... and so, he'll put his book down and stand up from seat while saying: "Alright, alright... you leave me no choice!"

Before lightly 'tackling' her down to the bed, with one hand cupping the back of her head, just to make extra sure her head plopped softly onto the bed. Then he'll stare down at her with a widening smirk. "Surprise attack...heh heh...there. Are you happy, now? You big dork.." And leans in to give her a kiss, while giving her hair a wild ruffle, now.
