they apologize often and it seems like they try to be nice to others, but then u look deeper and take into account different details

one of the biggest things abt flint that gets overlooked is that he likes drama .

i dont think liking drama itself is bad, why else do we have reality tv shows yk. but i think they actively indulge in it and one of the biggest things that points to this for me is how they treat the satellite investors

he seems to talk bad about them behind their backs, then can't handle the comeuppance of cosmo yelling at him.

this is further implied with cosmo saying they're "goin' around spreadin' lies", meaning flint does actively talk shit on what might be a regular basis. and flint saying "oh, no, I shouldn't have said that" implies FURTHER that they KNOW they're gonna get yelled at for it but continue to do it anyway with the hope cosmo wont find out. like hes not sorry for doing it, only sorry for getting caught.

cosmo gets HEAVILY neglected both in the community as a whole and whenever flint is brought up even though they have a really interesting and honestly hilarious dynamic (but thats for another post..)

whenever cosmo DOES get brought up in the context of he and flints relationship, people defend flint and blame cosmo for being "mean" to him. but tbh, i think cosmo has a fair point in this particular text. Flint can talk all he wants, but at the end of the day can't handle the consequences of it and lacks the confidence to put his foot down. He's a follower, not a leader (unlike cosmo, who flint looks up to canonically. WHICH NO ONE TALKS ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!)

flint also seems to have an interesting habit of apologizing even though he actively and intentionally attacks the toons right after

which i think is interesting. i think it's just a habit of his to say sorry when he knows he's doing/has done something wrong (especially bc he doesnt like facing the consequences), even if hes not actually sorry. Considering this is the same person who claims they like setting toons on fire, i dont think any of these apologies are sincere:

speaking of not being able to handle the consequences, when flint does get defeated by toons, there's a line that sticks out.

Specifically the "i'll be back" feels vengeful. Like he takes the defeat personally, and doesn't want to give up because it makes him feel weak and he wants to come out on top.

something else i find interesting and almost jarring in flint's dialogue is some of their Power Trip dialogue:

this dude is incredibly power hungry. he craves confidence and the ability to be a leader, given how he looks up to cosmo and is drawn to graham, who also appears confident.

speaking of graham, i think it's important to note that earlier, when flint was talking shit abt the satellite investors, he was saying that specifically to graham, who encourages flint not to "let people walk all over him".

graham encourages flint to feel more confident, which is not inherently a bad thing. confidence is great! and its something flint deserves. but i think there's an issue with how they choose to express this "confidence" on the rare occasions they do.

shown throughout this post, flint's way of trying to be confident is being power hungry, talking shit, and fighting toons . i think it's pretty clear that flint has been walked all over in the past and present, and it's caused them to become shy and a bit of a doormat. which he clearly doesn't like (more evidence of this is the fact that he explicitly dislikes belittling.)

and on the rare occasions when they're "allowed" to be confident, they proceed to belittle OTHERS, like toons. in a lot of their dialogue, they come off as condescending towards the toons, even if it's pretty awkward.

i think Flint deserves to feel confident, but the way they go about it is unhealthy. They've clearly been treated like a doormat and is fed up with it, and it seems like they lash out as a result. I think he has a good and genuine heart, but he almost comes off as bitter due to being walked all over constantly. its rlly interesting to dive into flint's flaws and the way they act due to their desperation for confidence, something they really lack.

2. what are your personal feelings/thoughts on gingi? are you satisficed with them as a character? or are there anything you wish you could change now? 3. this is a wierd one but, gingi generally does not really care what he looks like/what others think, so im really curious why hes so meticulous with making his phone/type head, and if he is so bent up about it, why not try to get someone like Oliver to make him a more proper one? instead of replacing the rotten flesh over and over

1)Design for Gingi was primarily based on Frankenstein's aesthetic applied to a the chupacabra. Personality was largely ripped from quite a few unpublished stories/ideas I had before making DT. There's a few protagonists in other things I'd written as potential new game/story ideas that are eerily like Gingi.

2)I'm really really happy with Gingi as a character and I wouldn't change anything that I've established. I like how Gingi starts the game and changes by the end because it's pretty vast, but also not a complete change (and it happens very very gradually.)

TBH, outside of Gingi's interactions in DT, the fandom doesn't really know anything concrete about Gingi due to Gingi's poor memory. Until Gingi formed real human relationships, there was nothing to anchor to, just fragmented and barely remembered individual interactions. Honestly, the bigger picture is really interesting and I'm very happy with Gingi as a protagonist and I'd love to make sequels to DT as I've had concrete ideas for where the character would get up to in potential sequels for years now!

3)Gingi's flesh-head is a bit of a mystery. Gingi doesn't have the same adverse reaction to rotting things that most people do, but does have a general chip in its shoulder about being judged as lesser by others. Gingi (generally) does not make efforts to change its appearance to be seen as less repulsive by others, as we can plainly see from the fact Gingi often forgets (or refuses) to wear clothes.

4)I have all the main character date of births written down, so I could tell you Gingi's exact age... but it's more fun if I don't.

FOR MILT:

1)I'm not really sure why the wiki says that. There's no canon materials that state that Crown + Milt had an affair together. I think someone just read between the lines and stated their hunch as a fact.

2)Norm and Milt met but didn't know each other well. There was a cut mention of Milt in Norm's dialogue, but after a lot of head-scratching, felt the topic was too forced. Norm wouldn't have volunteered the information unless it was relevant to the scene and Gingi would not have asked.

3)Mingus knows about Milt, though not intimately. The only person alive during Mingus' lifetime who could've talked about Milt to her was her grandmother Marla, who was a husk of a person for Mingus' whole life (and in particular, talking about Milt would've hurt too much for her given their closeness.) Mingus knows about Milt from her obsessive study of her paw paw's presidency, but not much more than any historian/social studies teacher would. A lot of information I'd consider very important about Milt was never put to paper.

4)I'm not 100% sure why the fandom likes him as much as they do, given how little of him the fandom has seen (and how little information there is about him out there so far.) I just wanted a few references to him included in canon so I could potentially reveal more about him one day without fans wondering how this SUPER important character had never been mentioned. It's incredibly likely that I'll show more of Milt in future DT stuff due to how instrumental he was in Crown's decision-making + rise to power. There would be no practical way to expand on Crown without discussing Milt more.

There's a much bigger picture that the fandom hasn't seen much of that Milt is very important to, though it isn't often relevant to the modern day events of DT. Understanding Milt isn't important to understand DT itself, but is to understand both Crown and exactly how the world (and by extension, Dialtown itself) ended up exactly the way it did. And with time, I will discuss that some more.

What do you think Frisk's life was like before arriving in the underground? What do you think their life was like a few years after all that? What kind of person d'ya think they'd be?

this is a fairly hard question because for a long time frisk was effectively an enigma to me. i think frisk is one of the biggest writing weak points in the game and that their character suffers because toby only did the big reveal that theyre a separate person from you too late to do really anything with it, which is why hes focusing so hard on kris in deltarune.

however, i have been thinking more about them lately and trying to figure them out from the few canon details we have. here are some of the lines in the game that i think can give us a peak into frisks upbringing and personality:

these lines to me seem to imply frisk most likely grew up/lives in a neglectful environment where they dont feel loved or appreciated, whether in a home with parents or an orphanage or somewhere else. their caretakers are clearly absent enough that frisk managed to make it to mount ebott, for whatever reason it is they went. they do seem to at leastl partly want to go back home though, as they ask toriel when they can and you have the option to say they have somewhere else to go.

they seem very independent and used to doing things for themself. they prefer finding fun in things in their environment to entertain themself with (like playing in leaves or staring at mouse holes) and potentially arent actually used to having toys to play with. they dont like the idea of being trapped in the ruins with toriel and want to leave despite the promise of a loving home.

...however, they say this about asgore later. they seem to vastly prefer things like toriels homemade pie to making their own instant noodles. maybe theyd be willing to stay with someone on their own terms? you are given the option to stay with toriel or leave on your own at the end of the game. maybe frisk could be fine with either.

i also choose to believe the 'less grammatically correct' options in the role-play sequence are frisk. the only thing this really proves in that theyre kind of silly. but what undertale character isnt? things like them wiggling or copiously flirting or generally going along with shenanigans tell us they like having a good time like everyone else.

also, i dont have anything specific to say about the lines you get from running from a fight but i want to include them because theyre fun and some of the only 'probably frisk dialogue' we get that isnt just options.

as for post-mercy, i think the person everyone is talking to in the alarm clock dialogue is frisk. theyre just being told about events they werent there for, like the house party with alcohol they werent invited to for obvious reasons. i think both them having stayed with toriel or gone somewhere else are possible and there isnt strong evidence for either. theres even less evidence about whether they became the ambassador or not. maybe they werent there for some of the hangouts because they were busy with politics? i dont think toriel would let that happen but if any kid in the world could be a successful diplomat its absolutely frisk.

I've felt since first watching S1 that August's mother Louise really is neglectful. Let's look at the glimpses we get of her:

Erik says to Wille in S1E2 that she sent August to Hillerska shortly after his dad's suicide. Fair enough, I'm sure August wanted to go and probably lashed out at her for "not making life easier" for Carl Johan. But she seems to have essentially just left him there without any proper followup on how he was dealing with everything. His grief, their financial situation, his sudden responsibility having to take over from his father... As his mother, she should have made sure he got some help - counselling with Boris for example, but that clearly didn't happen. Based on all the issues August developed in the time leading up to canon, he has dealt with precisely none of his trauma, which also left him so very open to Erik's abuse and influence at Hillerska (as we now know).

She let August believe she would get the boarding money for him up until S1E3, only to turn up at Parents' Day and tell him to get it himself. By selling some of his father's belongings that she must have known meant everything to him. Yeah, that was probably the best and only solution, but the way she handled it was abysmal. And then she seemed surprised that August was angry and disappointed... Whereas August's reaction seemed to hint that this wasn't the first time she let him down (at least in my interpretation).

She was nowhere to be found in the aftermath of the video. August returned to Hillerska early from Christmas break, and it was plain to see he wasn't doing well at all. But we didn't get a single hint of her trying to reach out, nor did she seem all that worried when he suddenly called her weeks later and told her to buy a random horse (despite saying before that he would rather die than tap into his inheritance). She did ask why, but when he said "because I want to", she just dropped the subject.

And as you pointed out, we also didn't see her after he was caught. I'm sure we're meant to infer that August has been in touch with both her and Rickard since Rickard is representing him, but her absence from our screens or even the dialogue leaves a very specific taste. He may be 18, but he's still her son, and she should be there when he fucks up to the point of committing an actual crime. Asking what the hell he was thinking and demanding that he talk to someone about all his problems. This could've been brought up when he had to start seeing Boris after his fight with Wille, for example.

(Not to mention the missed opportunity of having her ask how he feels about having to sell Årnäs for the settlement! I will forever be bitter that this happened off camera and we didn't see August's reaction at all. It would've benefited the story on several levels to actually show his pain.)

So yeah. We could well see Louise again in the finale, but considering August still considers Sara the only person he's ever really been able to talk to... His mother definitely hasn't been there for him enough. I do not blame her for wanting to live her own life at all, especially as her marriage to Carl Johan was probably hell towards the end, but it sure seems like August is yet another example of how the adults in YR have let their children down.

🔥 jin - much like bakura jin is a character who gets treated quite like shit by canon and fandom alike. given that he has like 2 lines of spoken dialogue there's a lot of room for interpretation, but i feel like most of the (very very scant) jin interpretations I've seen depict him as sort of clueless and naive and vapid, and that is, again, very very boring to me. i think people want him to be ""okay"" because of what he went through but it comes at the cost of absolutely any interesting characterization or meaningful relationships with other characters

I know there's no canon ending but what was your motivation in picking B? I feel like both A and B are possible for different reasons and depending on how the player interprets Franklin's relationships and loyalties. I really love the other endings for all the implications and possibilities there is and it's a shame that C overshadows them because it's the Vaguely Happy Ending.

Here's some of the bigger examples:

Michael is his mentor, he looks up to him a lot. He introduced him to an entirely different world of crime and pushed him to become something great. He admires him and he'll always be appreciative of the things he was taught. He's a role-model in a lot of ways.

But throughout the story Michael does little things to let him down. Shows his true colors a bit. I think that'd influence Franklin's final decision.

When Devin withholds the payment for the cars, Franklin asks Michael for help. Michael is dismissive at first (kinda understandable, the meathook incident just happened, i'd be dismissive in that moment too lol) but eventually says "i've got this other deal with Weston, down at the film studio. So we gotta wait for that to play out before I got any leverage over your deal". There's no leverage to be had by being a producer at majestic. Mikey has his dream job, and he wont jeopardize that opportunity. He frankly doesnt care if Franklin gets paid, because It's not his problem. It's invested. it'll work out.

In the fireman approach to the FIB heist, Franklin gets knocked out. He wakes up alone, M and the team already gone. Michael calls him over the coms relieved he's okay, telling him to meet up. Micheal had the mission on his mind and decided Franklin was either already dead, or would maybe meet up with them later. Which I understand for a random heist member, he tends to not care when they die (The helicopter crash in the obvious approach to The Big One is a good example. Trevor is upset with Mike "You dont even realize the people you employed are dead" and all Michael can say is "and the metal?" only concerned about the lost gold.) For him to treat Franklin the same way, as someone disposable, that's gotta stick with a guy. Especially after everything Franklin has done for Micheal.

And the Coup de Grace imo. Franklin has a front row seat to how Mike treats Trevor. Trevor is loyal and honest. He views M as his best friend, even after everything they've been through. Franklin knows this. At every turn Michael tells Franklin that T is a monster, that he'll do something awful eventually. Kill either of them.

After the Fresh Meat mission, Franklin asks Michael what happened in Ludendorf. Michael is cagey, tries to get out of the conversation. He's trying to protect himself. "We're up in North Yankton, right? And he goes off on one. He's about to kill me Franklin." or the alternate dialogue "Ah shit. We're up there and Trevor freaks the fuck out. He was about to kill me, Franklin" which we all know is not how it went down. They get to Mike's house and Franklin asks about Brad. About everything that happened to make Michael and Trevor so unstable when it comes to each other. Mike doesn't give him a solid answer. His answers are vague. "I made a judgment call. I dont know if it was the right one. I did what I thought I had to do" is about all he gets out of him. Franklin telling him "Man, you burned every motherfucker you've ever known."

Frank was with Trevor right before Fresh Meat. He saw how fucked up whatever happened in Yankton made him. He's prone to anger and outbursts, but his behavior after coming back is a whole other level of hatred and hurt. Michael refusing to tell Franklin what happened is suspicious as all hell.

In the end I think all these little things would add up. How can you trust a guy so willing to burn every person he comes across. People that would die for him, do anything for him. He sold out his best friend to the FIB. He ignores Franklin when it doesn't work in his favor. He lies and lies and lies.

Who's to say he wont turn on Franklin too?

this time i have a bit more thoughts on her as an actual character so ill start w that before the headcanon dump ... also, throughout this post ill be referring to her w she/her pronouns because of a personal headcanon im VERY attached to. all i ask is any rbs or further questions abt my specific vision of her use those same pronouns... in others posts i do not care obviously. also, this post is specifically abt her in the dsaf universe since shes far more substantial there.

firstly, i should say i ADORE harry. she is one of my biggest comfort characters in a series where almost everybody is one for me. so when i give any criticisms, know its out of love and a wish for some more expansive writing rather than any malice. being critical of media you love is important, etc etc.

my biggest issues with her character really boils down to the lack of acknowledgement abt her being physically disabled. she mentions having a "bad leg" during 3, but its ONLY mentioned that one time, during (i believe) missable dialogue. i understand her not using, like, mobility aids for it since it may be difficult to find suitable stock images (+ all the phonies in that game use the same photos for their bodies, and its totally possible its not something she feels she needs), but it probably shouldve been mentioned or expanded upon more.

i dont believe were given any explanation on how her leg ended up the way it is, or in what way it is. we dont know if she was born with her disability or aquired it later. we dont know if its paralyzed, we dont know if its because of a muscular dystrophy, or anything else. i just wish we were given more info, bcus as it is, it is REALLY easy to look over in favor of, say, her ptsd.

speaking of which, i have some mixed feelings on how her ptsd is portrayed. on one hand, the joke in the restaurant reviews abt her having flashbacks and a subsequent panic attack feels very distasteful, though thankfully this is (i believe) the only instance of this kind of joke at her expense. im glad elsewise it isnt some huge , controlling part of her character - however, again, it IS missable. while one can assume she has it when she discusses her past, i dont believe its explicitly stated UNTIL that review.

tldr; her disability feels poorly handled, mostly from lack of expansion and discussion.

thankfully, though, she is elsewise a very enjoyable character; shes got some really good and funny dialogue, the exposition we get from her about the original managers is really fucking good, and i really wish we heard more abt her experience working with rebecca (and presumably roger)... again, her biggest issues are just not having as much of a spotlight on her as she couldve, but considering the employees arent really the main focus of the game that may be fine actually...

we were ROBBED of minoth and malos having known each other as amalthus’ blades honestly. it also makes the scene with him and cole weird because they talk like they know each other but malos never even directly addresses him in torna. like minoth even sarcastically calls him “comrade” but it’s so weird bc canonically they would never have spoken before this???

Didnt have to be there but since i feel like brighid didnt get much, a scene of jin and brighid discussing their journals. Wouldve given more weight to their conversation in morytha if theyd had at least one significant interaction

it really feels like jin’s line about not liking fighting from the base game isn’t really taken into account at all. not to say he comes across as though he likes fighting but it felt more like a “im not aggressive but totally willing to throw hands to protect myself and my driver” situation and i just wish some actual discomfort or active dislike of fighting was portrayed rather than that one line.

It’s probably not a hot take to say that the past sages are the worst part of Tears of the Kingdom. Not only are they faceless personality voids with the same cutscene 4 times over, but their actual dialogue… hearing it again, I can kind of see why it squeaked some people out.

For starters, all of them say they “served Rauru”, and while that most likely means they served as his generals, some people saw it as them serving him absolutely, and including their races.

All of them also refer to them passing down their stones as the destiny of their races. I think you can kind of see how some people read that as “what, so these other races exist solely to serve Hyrule? R A C I S T ! ! !” Yes?

I don’t think any of this was intentional, mind you; I think it’s just how woefully underwritten they are that made some people think up this weird alternate story.

I definitely think the old sages are the WEAKEST part of the story. They have repetitive cutscenes, with the new sages and with Zelda, and are literally faceless. I do think there was an intentional choice to have their faces covered with masks— something I hope the DLC will cover.

There is a LOT about the Zonai and it’s culture that we still don’t know about, but we do see that the Zonai are considered ‘closer to the Gods’ than even the Hylians. That’s a LOT of unpacked lore. I can’t blame people for wanting to fill in those blanks themselves, but there is simply no evidence to prove anything. We don’t know squat about the Zonai, beyond what Rauru and Mineru show us. The last of their kind, access to secret stones… there is something that happened that wiped out the rest of the Zonai that we do not know anything about.

Passing down the stone is the destiny of the new sages, a responsibility passed on and one accepted by each of the new sages. We know they would have helped Link regardless, but this is a request from Zelda being fulfilled thousands of years later in order to support Link. I definitely think calling that ‘racist’ is simply misinterpreting the story and the intention.

The dialogue itself is pretty reminiscent of the Champions being appointed in the final flashback from The Champion’s ballad, honestly. Serve Hyrule. I think the change to have it be Rauru is because unlike King Rhoam, Rauru was the one facing off against Ganondorf. They would serve him in battle just as soldiers do for their commanders. And he was the commander 🤷‍♀️ I’m not all that bothered by the dialogue choice, but people can do what they want with it

Overall, I truly believe that we will get more answers in the DLC! I hope we will because I understand the focus was on the new sages, but the old ones were important pieces of the story too!

I also truly think a lot of criticism of Rauru and the Zonai is that we DONT have a ton of information about them… but this game was not meant to answer everything. It’s an introduction to a new era of Zelda lore. So while we can create theories and critique the game, there’s a plethora of lore we just don’t have access to yet.

That’s honestly why I haven’t really attempted to delve into Rauru and the Zonai, because canonically speaking we just don’t know much about the culture or their history. And until we do, I’ll remain pretty neutral about it.

the word that comes to mind first when writing kiibo is polite . hes a polite guy . i also think bc in drv3 canon at least , hes an ai, he doesn't seem to use much slang or contracted words, and often defers to the elongated version, i.e. cannot instead of can't.

He hesitates a fair amount and usually says 'um' or 'erm' instead of 'uh.' which is jsut . something i noticed idk how helpful it will be but its there.

kiibo tries to help people out , mostly. he's just a good dude. but in terms of dialogue yeah, very polite, bordering on formal a lot of the time, watch out for contractions in his speech. in terms of romance considering its a shipfic, i dont know how much help i will be because whenever i write him in sleep awake it's always in a strictly platonic sense until it comes to iruma . BUT we do know that he gets super nervous around people he likes , considering how he reacted to iruma. i also think he's a very sensitive person; he was super cut up about her death, but he seemed to take everyone else's to heart too. he's also one of the more logical characters in the game , which makes sense because he's literally a computer, a very rarely lets emotion cloud his judgement. although he obviously cared for iruma he's not one of the characters that go out of his way to deny that he was trying to kill ouma once it was proven; he expresses his disbelief but as soon as he feels saihara has proved it, he just sort of accepts it with disappointment. i think he's the type to really, really want the people he loves to be good always, but he doesn't go so far as to put them on pedestals or anything . and on top of all that, he's very helpful and selfless.

re. people fanoning Izzy as Super Working Class I think they’re often making a (patronising, inaccurate) generalisation about (English) Northern accents. That’s never been a one-to-one mapping for class and income and is DOUBLY misrepresentative of the 1700s, but I think it was a springboard for people who wanted it to be true

interesting! im USAmerican and i literally cant tell the difference between british and australian accents so like, i REALLY have no context for this. i do remember ppl talking abt accents from back in my tma days, but all i can recall was just "people get classist towards people with Northern accents" and "the RP accent is the Posh Fuckhead accent" (and i could very easily be remembering those wrong, it's been a while)

i guess it makes sense that accents aren't always that neatly categorized. but because this is a topic i am INCREDIBLY ignorant about, i don't personally feel comfortable dismissing the "con's accent means he's poor" argument because you, an anonymous stranger on the internet, have told me that generalizing northern accents as working-class is patronizing and inaccurate, no offense

what i do feel comfortable saying is that the accents in ofmd are literally all over the place and for THAT reason the "izzy has a northern english accent so CANONICALLY he HAS to be working class" take seems like a pretty big reach, imo. if someones gonna choose to cling to con's accent specifically as proof of something in canon then i want to hear their explanations for ed and stede's kiwi's accents, for ed's british accents in the backstory, for doug's american accent. there are SOME instances in ofmd where character accents do have deeper implications, but it's mostly subtle, character-specific things, and i can easily see that those instances dont necessarily indicate that con o'neill's accent is one of them:

so disclaimer again that im VERY bad at telling UK accents apart (british accents especially), but im pretty sure the british characters who have dialogue and hold positions of power all have Rich Douchebag british accents?? (please correct me if im wrong lol). im talking abt the king, stede's two prisoners, and the badmintons, specifically. and it makes sense that they'd want to get the accents right for those guys, bc ofmd is VERY clear in making sure we know that The British Are The Enemy. giving them a stereotypical Rich Jerk accent just emphasizes that

i might not be super informed abt all the details abt what accents signify in the UK, but i know enough abt history to know that ewen bremner going ham on the scottish accent in a show where the british are all portrayed as irredeemable colonizers is Based As Fuck. and this doesnt rlly apply to con/izzy bc con's accent is still english and izzy literally aligns w the british navy to achieve his goals, something that ofmd explicitly condemns

i know samba schutte personally chose to have roach's accent say something about the Roach Backstory he made up as part of the show's encouragement to have the actors for some of the side characters come up with backstories for their characters, but idk if all the actors chose to have their accents mean something. also, coming up with backstories obviously wasnt something that actors playing characters with more importance to the plot were asked to do. rhys, taika, and vico were given their characters' backstories. izzy is more important to the plot than roach (and wee john and fang, two other characters whose actors' have talked abt the backstories they came up with for their characters), and while we dont have a backstory for him yet, i wouldnt be surprised if con didn't get to come up with one. basically, samba deciding to have roach's accent mean something doesn't inherently mean izzy's accent means izzy is poor
