Shadow of the King Au Art Dump
Since I very rarely get past the sketching phase any presentable art is rare, but I managed to find some for ya'll
Warning for some old ass art:
1. The Stalwart Generals
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I spent an ungodly amount of time figuring out the designs, dynamics, and personalities of all of these monkies so I'll be damned if I don't show them first.
The Generals take care of anything SWK is unable to. They are in charge of FFM when he's not present.
Marshal Ma - While technically all the generals are the same rank, Marshal Ma is considered SWK's unofficial second in command. She's calm in every crisis with a very low bs tolerance and is 75% of the reason why the island doesn't fall to chaos every time SWK leaves. She's highly respected by all the inhabitants and can and will break your spine Bane style if the situation calls for it.
Marshal Liu - Mean bisexual. Marshal Ma's sister and the bane of her existence. On duty she takes her role very seriously. Off duty she likes to keep Ma on her toes with her dumbassery. She's easy going, hates clothes, and loves to fight. She has a slightly concerning amount of knives on her person at all times. She is big gay for General Beng.
General Beng - Meaner lesbian. A siamang and the largest and tallest of the generals. She enjoys dressing up, tea (both kinds), and a good party. She has a very short fuse. While her size and strength alone would generally deter anyone from testing her temper, there are always idiots. She can fight, but she knows her Liu would enjoy it more.
General Ba - The oldest of the generals. While she's not shy, she is very quiet. She does not waste her words. But, when she speaks, the others will stop whatever they're doing to listen. She likes to spend her free time in the libraries. Get her in the right mood and she'll argue with you for hours about the most random subjects.
.
2. Macaque face evolution
Tumblr media
Was trying to get a feel for Macaque's face and how it changes throughout the au. Top right is the youngest, bottom right is the oldest. Bro gets all sorts of messed up from the whole died and resurrection thing and very much looks wrong afterwards.
.
3. New fit
Tumblr media
Macaque and SWK have the whole cape thing going on, I figured SWK gave Mac one of his own when he was still training under him. I like to think it holds a lot of sentimental value to him since he still wears it in present day but he would rather get his head smashed in again than admit it.
.
4. I'm sure this won't come back to bite anyone later
Tumblr media
Eeesh. Imagine spending your whole life training to receive and keep the Sun Wukong's attention only for him to casually give it to some random human boy thousands of years later. I mean, Macaque did betray him and everything, but it's the principle.
.
5. The Tongbi Gibbon Concepts
Tumblr media
One of the four world-wrecking/celestial monkies. My brain was very focused on the whole pulling celestial bodies out of the sky part of her abilities that I made her based around that line.
Don't know if this fit is still canon as she and the Horse Monkey had a large role to play in Shadow of the King, and I'm considering if I should take them out
.
Bonus:
Tumblr media
I consider the Tongbi gibbon and the Horse Monkey to be older than both Sun Wukong and Macaque in Shadow of the King. The Horse Monkey is the eldest, but the Tongbi's age is nothing to sniff at.
That being said, that does not mean she can't be bought.
Takes place after all the traumatizing shit in SotK
Panel 1
Tongbi: Child, I am an ancient being. I hold the power of gods within me. I was witness to the birth of the Great Sage himself. I have seen nations and empires rise and fall. I have gathered and spent innumerable wealth. Yet you think you can bribe me with 20 yuan?
Panel 2
The host: ...how 'bout 30?
Panel 3
Off-panel (Horse Monkey): TONGBI!!
MK: I thought the nimbus made you airsick
Red Son: Not helping, Noodle Boy
Tongbi: BOTH OF YOU SHUT UP!

Ok i need to yap for a second
I love how well written and thought out the ipc is in honkai star rail. I feel in general we dont always get the best discussions about capitalism and giant corps because said giant corps are usually sponsoring or are creating them most of the time so there is usually bias. I just saw some of the boothill story lore leaks and im not gonna talk about them here cus leaks but it gave me real big appreciation for how the ipc is handled.
Im personally a real big fan of complicated situations in my fictional stories. Ever since mob psycho ive gained a new lens of trying to find sympathy and reason for any situation, keeping my own opinions and preferences while still understanding the other side. I feel star rail has done a great job at show casing the many sides of the ipc even if i for one really dont like the ipc and its my least favorite organization
(I feel i should also say this is an opinion piece and im not informed enough on the real life issues as i would like to be. I just want to yap my opinion out and express why i find joy in this and maybe even come back later with more research to make another post but with references and proof to explain why besides what i remember and like. If i do get anything wrong then please inform me cus i would like to learn more about this and plan to)
|Spoilers for basically all the ipc related things in hsr|
I started out hating them cus i just dont like capitalist corps and they just rubbed me the wrong way. When the arum alley event happen i was originally pissed at it because even though it was confirming my beliefs of “big corp bad” it felt cheap and like almost every other story told by a big corp trying to tell us big corps are bad. Yknow the “look at this obviously in the wrong guy dont be like him, look at him get his comeuppances in the end and ignore how we actually are alot more complicated and worse than this super evil and obvious example”
arum alley then did something i didnt expect. It gave nuance to the story. It started out with that obvious example yes but the next one wasnt that obvious, the next part of the event talked about how some workers feel they wont be able to sustain their lives as independent workers and feel they need to work for the big corps for a safe job and it started getting into the logistics of big corp vs independent business. Yeah we where fighting them but there where reasons and concerns and fears to be given. It wasnt just big corp bad it was “yeah big corp bad but here is why and here is also how its good” and it brings up the questions on what can be done so we dont need to rely on big corp
Topaz and her whole arc is another situation i find interesting. Topaz is a character i dont care to much about to be honest but i think she plays a good role in this whole ipc debacle. To me she feels like she represents someone who used the system because they needed to and made it work and flourished in the system. Her planet was basically unlivable and she lived in a capitalist waste that failed. In comes the ipc and they are almost what her world was but better for they offer to help and save them. All they need to do is sign their lives away to join the ipc and they did and their planet flourished because of it. Topaz herself was able to rise the ranks into being a cornerstone. I think her story shows both the light and dark of the ipc because they saved her planet but they only did it because it benefited them, if they didnt sign their lives away it is very likely topaz and everyone on her planet would have suffocated from the toxins and died. They had no choice but to join the system and its stated in game that topaz’s planet is one of the few that where able to be saved.
That’s probably what i like most about the playable ipc characters, it reminds us that these big corps arent just mustache twirling bad guys, it reminds us there are people there just trying to keep going and some of them are genuinely trying to do right and think what they are doing is right. Again topaz for example, she genuinely believes what she was doing was for the good of belabog. She saw a planet so similar to her own and i think she did what she thought was right and tried to help them (i dont think what she did was right but i can see where she comes from in thinking its right) i also think its showing that when she learned their was a way out for belabog that allowed them to not give their lives away to the ipc she gave in and stopped trying to convince them. She risked her own job security to allow them that right and because she didnt force an entire planet of innocent people who just got out of a horrible situation to sign their souls away (including the children mind you) she got demoted. Im not saying that she deserves a pat on the back for doing the bare minimum esp after she tried killing us, she is a rich, a conerstone, owns an exotic pet that she throws into battle and design her gun after, is a high member of said capitalist big corps, im just saying this is a very nuanced and interesting situation that i like to think about because there are so many thoughts and arguments
The whole belabog vs ipc thing was interesting in general for me because i think it was just such a good concept to bring forth the conversation of the goods and bads of big corps. Technically the ipc does have the right to want their century old debt repaid (ignoring the fact we later learned the robots where never used i think idk the end was confusing ngl) yet also at the same time we as people have a hard time siding with them when belabog didnt even know they where in debt because they where so isolated because of the stellaron and they just got out of the stellaron crisis and are trying to make their world habitable and yknow survive. We cant blame them for being unable to pay a humongous debt when these where the same people who stood in awe as march shower them a photo of their planet that she took while on the express. It creates a situation where yeah technically the giant corp has a right to take that money because its theirs but its still feels so cruel to make them have to cough it up right now with only a few days time. Belabog is basically forced to sign that deal because there is no way they could have payed that off they where doomed the moment topaz set foot on the planet. I remember talking to each of the people in belabog and getting their opinions on the matter and constantly having to rethink my stance because there where so many good points for why they should and so many for why they shouldnt. I can go on and on about this but this bit is already to long.
Aventurine!!! Aventurine aventurine oh where to start. Unlike topaz i actually like aventurine alot he is just such a well written character but we arent here to talk about how amazing him and the games writing is we are here to talk about the capitalist cooperation he is a cog in. Aventurine in a sense has a similar story to topaz but its more cruel and less happy. The ipc didnt save him, the ipc what going to arrest him and its thanks to his luck and a deal with the devil (or in this case a bet with a snake) that he was able to become aventurine.
I havent seen the writen stuff for him in his characters story because i dont have him but i will say from what i saw during the main story, something i question alot is what the ipc did during the avgin genocide. This might be a small tangent but the avgins said they had the support of the ipc. What happened that caused for the entire avgin civilization to be wiped out when they had the help of people with better weapons and armor and equipment. Apart of me is nihilistic enough to think the ipc didnt really care for saving the avgins and might have used the katakans attack as a way to know out the two groups that where causing them the most trouble but at the moment i dont know if theres anything supporting this theory so its just a crack theory
Aventurines spot in penacony is again interesting. Penacony is a prison planet of the ipc, that was taken over and turned into a party paradise thanks to the hamrony, family, and a stellaron. Aventurines goal was supposed to be to put penacony back in the ipcs control and to be honest i cant tell if thats his plan or not because of how crazy and confusing the story was (i loved it) but that being said it is another example how how grey ipc is. It isnt just a big bad corp there are people with lives and in avens case, people trying to gain their freedom with any risks necessary. I also think again the ipcs role in penacony is like belabog, very interesting, just for different reasons.
Penacony is based off America and in this case im assuming the ipc is their Britain. I feel like if you ask most people they would say that the ipc is the only group in penacony they hope fails (minus aventurine again i feel everyone wants aven to succeed even if we want ipc to fall) but i think the family being as grey as they are (basically a cult and also a representation of newer day amarica and its “its us or them” mentality in a way. I can make another yap ses about that lmao) adds an air of mystery and confusion on who we want to succeed since they are on two very different sides of the board so if one wins the other loses. It makes it feel like a fight of two big corps against each other and not really knowing who to support. Do you want to support the capitalist or the cult, pick your poison. We need the rest of penacony for me to go more in-depth on my opinion of ipc here and to rant but i can say its already making me question and argue both sides with what we have seen so far
That was fun for me. I havent ranted on tumblr in a long long time but hsr has been my recent hyperfixation and again boothill makes me crazy. While writing this is made me start to think about how much i wanted to talk about the hidden story of immigration i feel penacony is aso trying to tell. I think penacony is handling so many deep and interesting topics and im very excited for the next update. This has made me hyped to talk about the immigration stuff but i want to do reaserch and gain a proper strong stance besides “thats just my opinion.” I think this is an interesting topic and yapping about it made me want to do more reaserch on the topics of capitalism and big corps cus i hate them but i also think its important to know about it and understand there is more to the issue than just stingy old white rich people. I havent even gotten to jade yet. When we learn more about her imma have some words prob
Srry this was long but anyways cant wait till boothill comes out so i can get him and his light cone

ever wanted kataang as a little mermaid retelling, with a bit of an extra romantasy twist?
i present- "you with the dark curls, you with the watercolor eyes"
years ago, the spirits tui and la split the earth between the sky and the sea. however, they did not lose all hope for the rejoining of earth's peoples- tui blessed one avian a generation with the gifts of the mighty avatar, while la carefully selected one siren to grow into the role of the painted lady. the two were their little sliver of hope- hope that one day, the siren and the air-rider would fulfill their destiny, would find a way to reunite the tribes, would be able to root out the poison seeping through the land.
OR: a KATAANG AU where aang is a winged avian and katara is a siren!!!
the following are excerpts from this in-progress work: <3
⁎⁺˳ ✧༚ ˎˊ˗ ♡ ˗ˏˋയ ✩
Avatar Aang had been told time and time again that to venture across the surface of the sea when the moon had risen and claimed what rightfully belonged to it was to sign your own death certificate.
And yet, he found himself here, at the water’s edge, skipping stones, lost in thought.
To be the Avatar had once meant something, years before. Before the four tribes had separated, scattered to the ends of the earth. Those who formed fire itself chased the other tribes from the surface lands, those who could move rock and metal burrowed underground, those who flowed with the air sent ships with great sails across the sea until they reached towering mountain spires.
Those who bent water, who bent blood… they retreated to the depths of the sea, and with time, they became a part of it. Legend told of the way in which the Water tribes had adapted, two legs smoothed into razor sharp scales and voices twisted into something dark and luring.
Now, they were the monsters known as sirens.
⁎⁺˳ ✧༚ ˎˊ˗ ♡ ˗ˏˋയ ✩
As if in answer, the winds of the sea whispered back his own song, the melody made haunted. He made to turn himself away, to find shelter for the night, but that very whispering gave him pause. There was a different quality about it, something feminine, not simply his own voice reflected back. His instincts told him to duck, to crawl, and he did, bracing himself against a stone at the beach’s edge. The sound was louder here. He turned around the rock, wincing in anticipation…
…Only to be met with the sight of the most beautiful woman he had ever had the pleasure of seeing. He understood all at once why so many men had fallen prey to the charms of the siren.
For this girl to even gift him a wayward glance, he would build a temple. A religion.
She looked like a painting come to life, a sculpture kissed by the spirits themselves.
⁎⁺˳ ✧༚ ˎˊ˗ ♡ ˗ˏˋയ ✩
“I thought that sirens made a point of dragging Airriders to the depths of the ocean long before either party exchanged names.”
“Did you truly think so little of me?”
“The legends seem to think very little of you, at least. Me? I’m still making up my mind.” Aang tossed her a teasing grin.
“You seem fairly calm for a man who believes his fate to be sealed.” Katara raised her eyebrows, crossing her slender arms over one another.
“If my destiny is to spend the last few moments of my life at the side of such a lovely enchantress, who am I to fight it?”
“Handsome and a charmer. Is that your plan, to lull and seduce me into a sense of false security so that you can send a blast of air at my gills and leave me stranded in the bay?”
“If I’m remembering correctly, you are meant to be the lulling seductress of the two of us.”
⁎⁺˳ ✧༚ ˎˊ˗ ♡ ˗ˏˋയ ✩
He smiled down at her, reaching out to take her hand in his and press his lips against her perfect skin. “Pleased to make your acquaintance, Lady Katara.”
She pushed herself up off of her elbows, reaching up to brush her lips against his cheek. “The pleasure has been all mine, Airrider Aang.” With that, she slipped back under the waves of the sea, and Aang was left to wonder if the entire exchange of words had been nothing more than the spirited imaginings of a madman stranded and drowned at sea.
♥ if you want to stick around for this to come out, feel free to head over to my ao3 here! ->

The meeting for this week's investment is dull and filled with complete stiffness, my mind can't seem to be at ease. A small sigh escapes my lips as Christopher closes the presentation, "Well then let's try our best for the upcoming weeks to make sure sales go up and the customers are satisfied." He says with a smile as the employees gather their things and proceed to leave the conference room.
Christopher closes the door, "Alright, what's got your mind trapped?" He asked. I get up and look at him, "Nothing important to talk about." I said turning the projector off. Christopher sighs and crosses his arms, "Seungcheol...you usually pin-point in meetings. What's going on?" He asked proving a dumb point. I let out a sigh and gave him a stern gaze, "You...you stuck at setting people up, Jihoon and Suzy is a different story but Y/N..." I let my frustration be known.
Christopher chuckles amusedly, I furrowed my brows and let out a scoff. "Seungcheol if you dislike her, then why are you letting her cloud your mind at work?" He asked with a cocky smirk, I tossed the remote onto the table. I rolled my eyes and looked out the window, cars passing by the ten-story building. The sky dark and grey as lighting gives us a warning, "I do believe that Y/N isn't the problem here...How's your aunt Sekyung?" Christopher asked as he stood next to me. I let out a sigh of frustration, "She's been bringing Adeline wherever she goes...she brought her to my grandfather's party, and to my parent's house when Y/N was there for both events." I said letting my shoulders relax.
Christopher exhales sharply, "I take it Aunt Sekyung still is trying to get your name off the will," He says. I bite my lip and nod, "She's power-hungry...what can I do besides playing the role my grandfather has always expected of me?" I said looking at Christopher. He nods and looks out the window, "What about Y/N? Are you planning to break off whatever it is you two got?" He asks. I exhale softly and turn my back against the window, "Perhaps...I don't want my aunt dragging Y/N into this nasty game of hers." I said. Christopher sighs, "Let's hope that doesn't come of it, Y/N is a great person Seungcheol." He says patting my shoulder before walking off to the door.
"If you break her heart, you'll end up destroying something unfixable," Christopher says as he leaves the room. I look at the time and grab my phone off the table, I open Stella's contact hitting call. I pace back and forth as I wait for her to answer my phone call.
"Baby cousin? What a surprise to hear from you this early." Stella let out while trying to catch her breath, I rolled my eyes. "I need to talk to you...about Adeline." I said, Stella sighs and laughs. "Thinking about dumping your current girlfriend already?" She asked, I scoffed. "Don't dream of it, what exactly are you two planning?" I asked, Stella sighed. Shuffling and low voices could be heard in the back, "What are you talking about?" She asked. I pinch the bridge of my nose in annoyance, "Oh come on Stella, I know you. You still hold resentment towards me since the day of your failed wedding," I said. Stella scoffs and laughs, "Yah! You chased my fiance off of course I hold some resentment!" She blurs out.
I stop my pacing, "Aunt Sekyung was the one who bribed Hongjong! Threatening the lives of his family if he didn't break off things with you! She was the one who chased him away, not me!" I said letting my anger take over. I let out a huff of breath as I steadied myself, "No! Lies! Aunt Sekyung wouldn't—oh god" Stella cries. I lean against the table, "Aunt Sekyung knew if you were to be married half of her fortune would go to you and Hongjong..." I said breaking the news of how greedy Aunt Sekyung is. Stella sobs, "How do you know all this!?" She asked.
I bite my lip and exhale softly, "Because I grew up under her roof Stella, I've seen and been through it all...I can help you get Hongjong back if that's what you still want." I said. Stella sighs as she sniffles, "It's been two years Seungcheol, Hongjong has long gone forgotten about me." She says. I chuckle and look at my watch, "How would you know that?" I asked. Stella goes silent, "Seungcheol...have you spoken to Hongjong?" She asks. Her voice filled with desperation, I let out a sigh. "I have to go now, I have a business event to attend too," I said ending the call. I walked out of the conference room, it didn't take Stella five seconds to think about it.
The moment I stepped foot out of the room she made up her mind, Stella: Adeline plans to get in between you and Y/N. Through humiliation.
A tired sigh escapes my lips as I walk down the hallway toward the elevator, my finger clicking repeatedly on the down button. I look for Y/N’s contact through my phone as I wait for the stupid elevator to get here, calling her number.
Straight to voicemail, I let out an irritated sigh and took the stairs. Running down feeling the adrenaline kick in as I try calling her once more, "Yah, you're being annoying right now. What do you want?" Her voice was quiet. I stop on the fifth floor and catch my breath, "Where are...you?" I asked. Y/N sighs, "In a meeting with my supervisor why?" She asked. I proceed to rush down the stairs, "I need to speak with you, wait for me at your workplace. Don't leave, don't even talk to anyone that goes asking for you." I said. Y/N sighs in annoyance, "Oh god, this better be serious Seungcheol." She says before hanging up.
I reached the first floor and called for Stan to bring the car out front. This is serious, something much more serious than Stella's failed wedding.

I'm not the biggest Kotaro fan (and I think you are right in your post that he also feels some jealousy and entitlement) but I think he is also driven and motivated by the fact that he is a noble servant of a noble house who must protect Satoko from bad life choices. So obviously, he is (in his mind) doing the right thing by "protecting" her from eloping with an underclass dude who is also an assassin. Satoko will obviously regret "staining the honor of her house and herself" later (or so he thinks). Classism drives a lot of the conflict in HnY, too. It's fucked up but Satoko is on the brink of (maybe) escaping a deeply messed up value system and living for herself but Kotarou is in so deep that he thinks that her leaving it is miserable and bad.
YEAH this is the main reason why kotaro acts this way hes raised to protect the kirigaya familys interests and its for satoko to be married into a prestigious family. kotaro is protecting satoko from bad decisions as a bodyguard and as her only friend since childhood. hes seen her struggle and make sacrifices and do everything for her dream of marriage for years of course when some dude comes along and satokos resolve wavers hes going to think its a very bad decision (also shinpei did drug and got him saed and tried to kill him so) i think theres two kinds of entitlement kotaro has too which is ofc the romantic jealousy one and also being satokos bodyguard and childhood friend he knows her best and will make decisions for her(that he thinks is in her best interest) because he thinks he knows better. satoko is making a very insane stupid choice in his pov she’s obviously not thinking clearly so he has to make decisions for her to protect her. all of these reinforce kotaros belief that satokos true and only happiness is being married into a noble family

You know, when I think about Arcane I can't help but think about the fact that I'm not a huge fan of how Vander handled things.
I mean his heart was definitely in the right place, he wanted to protect his children and his people, but to be honest there were moments where I felt like he was very confidently doing the wrong thing.
Specially in a child rearing sense. Now I just want to put it out there, that we the audience are shown a biased depiction of Vander.
Just about every scene he's in he's surrounded by his people who (mostly) look to him for protection, his children who adore him, or his enemies who are literal drug lord gang leader bad guys and corrupt policemen. Who are not humanized by the story until after his death.
For one there's Vi's pretty obvious eldest daughter syndrome, which Vander does nothing to try and curb. In fact I feel like in most of their scenes together Vander is treating this unhealthy dynamic as Vi being her sibling's leader and that she therefor needs to take more responsibility for them.
Even though I feel like Vander teaching Vi that way of thinking caused a lot of problems for all of the kids.
Sure it's great when your kids can work together, but there shouldn't be a pecking order among them, and if there is you shouldn't encourage it.
Vander fully expects Vi to take responsibility for Powder(which makes some level of sense considering she's 4-ish years younger than Vi), but also Mylo and Claggor, who are both the same age as her.
Meaning that if Vander trusts Vi to look after herself (and Powder) I feel like he should be able to trust Mylo and Claggor to look after themselves.
Vi should not be saddled with the responsibility of being in charge of her siblings, who are literally the same age as her.
If Vander is going to be reprimanding Vi for getting into trouble, he should be getting on to Mylo and Claggor just as much.
Sure Mylo and Claggor mention that Vander is going to be upset, but it's very obvious that the majority of the responsibility rests on Vi's shoulders.
Which, sure they look up to Vi and listen to what she has to say and what she thinks they should be doing.
But if it's to the point where Vander thinks it's gotten to the point that they will literally blindly follow Vi into dangerous situations because she said so. Then I feel like it's time for Vander to have a sit down with the rest of his kids and have the very important "Thinking for yourself" talk.
It's- You can't raise your children to just blindly follow their oldest sibling their entire life, and raise the oldest child to be the caretaker of the rest of their siblings their entire life.
Yeah, Vi needs to think things through a bit more, because the other kids look up to her a lot, and will go along with whatever her plans are, because they think she knows what she's doing and they trust her.
But also the other kids need to know how to assess things for themselves, rather than just blindly follow whatever it is Vi says, no matter how much they look up to her.
Like this man fully thinks that his 15 year old daughter, who clearly has problems with her temper and being impulsive herself, should also be responsible for her two adoptive brothers who are functionally the same age as her [one with a pretty obvious superiority/inferiority complex], alongside her younger sister who already has problems of some kind of anxiety.
Mylo and Claggor are just fully not held to the same standard as Vi in spite of being the same age, and literally getting into the exact same trouble. Their choice to go along with what Vi planned, is put onto Vi's shoulders when it shouldn't be, because if Vi is old enough to know better in Vander's mind, so are Mylo and Claggor.
If it was just Powder I could somewhat understand. She's younger, more impressionable, she idolizes Vi, she's not as strong or fast as the other three and if Vi forgot that at some point Powder could have gotten left behind or hurt.
You know the general "You need to be a good role model for your younger sibling because they look to you for guidance" stuff.
Like the fact that Vi feels the need to fight Piltover in order to secure a better life for Powder in Act 1 tells me so much just how parentified Vi is when it comes to Powder's care.
Which I do think originated from before Vander adopted the girls, to be fair to Vander. Vi gives off the vibe of looking after Powder having always been her responsibility.
To be unfair to Vander, I don't think he did anything to try and undo Vi's over responsible and over protective mindset when it came to Powder after adopting them.

J.L. Laynesmith taking the 'Buckingham Did It™' route for the murder of the Princes in the Tower AND the rumors of Edward IV's bastardy ... I have to laugh
#my post#history media#this was in her book 'Cecily Duchess of York' which I have ... Thoughts on#I really liked it overall - it was meticulously researched and gave me information that I hadn't previously known about Cecily#However this often contrasts with Laynesmith's own very evident biases assumptions and conjecture#and the effect is very jarring#This becomes slightly more pronounced after 1464 and actually ridiculous after 1483.#She also suggests that Henry VI may have genuinely died of a melancholy-induced stroke like Edward IV claimed which is just...lmfao#I don't know what to say at this point lol#To be fair she does specifically note that he died shortly after Edward arrived in London and that most contemporaries believed#it was far too convenient#which is far more acknowledgement and culpability than she gives Richard III whose culpability for the 'disappearance' of his nephews is#literally never touched upon - the blame is conveniently dumped on Buckingham#honestly the whole Deal with Buckingham is so odd. dude was a political neophyte; was given a primarily ceremonial role by Edward IV#throughout his reign and was younger than Richard (who was a seasoned politician). What makes you think Buckingham of all people#was some kind of political genius and making decisions over RICHARD of all people lol?#anyway#This book was pretty decent with Margaret of Anjou which was great#it was less decent with Elizabeth Woodville which was not so great :/#some of the assumptions it made (for Cecily's benefit naturally) were so weird#and the way she 'reassessed' Elizabeth's role in 1483 was very distasteful#I might make a separate post on that because it was very annoying#(also claiming Henry Tudor landed with 'a small band of Lancastrian exiles' - yeah no. the majority of the 'exiles' who supported him were#Yorkist aka Edward IV's supporters who opposed Richard. because this was very much an internal civil war between the dynasty#and Henry became a claimant only after being chosen by Yorkists after the October risings made clear the Princes were dead#the claim that challenged Richard's was Elizabeth of York not Henry's. let's not twist words here)#(ALSO I'm sorry but William Stanley certainly did not choose to commit his troops to Henry Tudor because Henry was 'his brother's stepson'#he did that out of loyalty to Edward IV and his children as Henry was the chosen claimant of the Yorkist faction#hence why he may have betrayed Henry VII in the 1490s for Perkin Warbeck who pretended to be Edward's second son. so jot that down)#you really see these small minor details which are very much chosen purposefully and paint a very different picture lol

not thinking about imogen calling this young girl “laudna” and the young girl kinda remembers this purple ghostly form in her nightmares, reaching out to comfort her, trying to protect her, and calling her “laudna”. she opens the door the day that they meet and this purple haired woman is at her door, looking at her the way that form did in her nightmare, and when asked for her name, she just says “laudna”. and smiles.

I like to think Furina was human prior to becoming Archon, send post
#hc; furina#//No I will not elaborate#//...#//Ok maybe a lil bit; what if Egeria gave her favorite little opera singer the Gnosis to safeguard before heading to Khaenri'ah#//Bc Furina loved the nation as much as she did; even had her own ideas on how to maintain the nation's strengths#//The Oratrice was Furina's idea of how to preserve Egeria's strength should the goddess fall in the Cataclysm; hence her leaving the gnosi#//In my mind until said otherwise; the Oratrice contains the Gnosis; as Furina does no feel worthy enough to hold it#//It is better used in tandem to Neuvi's strengths; and help run the nation as Egeria would have wanted; she thinks#//Which deffo led Furi to have a massive breakdown after Childe's imprisonment; bc she couldn't comprehend why it would fail#//when it had her Archon's gnosis. And the fact that it DID meant her efforts were flawed and truly Failed her people#//Furi doesn't fault the Oceanids for abandoning Fontaine and her when she ascended to archonhood#//With how much she herself loved Egeria; she would too#//she misses being human so much. But on the bright side; being an Archon means she can better HELP others#//To help her people; to help Neuvillette#//Hell; bc of her functional immortality; she can always be there to stand by him; give him a friend so he'll never be lonely#//That's why she holds onto her role so much; in spite of how hard it gets#//And she will Never step down nor surrender it; not until her dying breath#//Or...a Certain situation calls for it. In which case; she will gladly give it all up

Bai Lu's poor acting in the recent episodes is even worse to watch now, when we have a comparison with Ye Bingchang and Tantai Jin interacting.
All of their scenes are full of tension (not romantic ofc) and the moment when TTJ sees right through Bingchang, because he knows her game so well, and so she also drops her act a little bit is just a mindblowing performance from both of the actors 👌👌.
Meanwhile Bai Lu is there doing emoji faces.

i mean this amongst the material where we were Ever supposed to be at all on the same page about axe & wendy's nightmare quasiromance including that it was after the vicious pettiness stalking & relationship sabotaging from axe that we got the warmest & fuzziest rather than wendy finally reaching a breaking point, or know that it's not great if prince goes around taking advantage of young employees his kid's age but we would never disrespect that person by calling them a victim and also we can't even think too badly of him until he outright confirms (rudely!) he feels entitled, and then we also will actually do nothing about this save for eventually saying actually it looks bad if his wife also has sex outside the marriage, which would defy his entitlement
#shoutout to sacker as being the one woman around here who like actually had arcs that went anywhere#all this and rian having to be closeted too. for no reward except [here's this role: Some Asshole]#bonnie; another Some Asshole; largely also granted like ''but she's sexually available to some man worthy Enough of sex''#which is a completely superficial matter. even if we like ben he might be too much of a pussy#we won't confirm his sexuality is Wrong but no room for it being right; either#unbelievable like ''well at least now wendy will give up on axe'' wrong!! the magic of his possessiveness going off the rails :')#her Not going to superhell doesn't even have anything to do with it....#meanwhile rian bonking prince for no reason at least was supposed to be this ''twist'' that what the? prince is shit?#(relevantly: prince bullying the autistic guy on day 1 does Not reveal this (: )#still unbelievable that just went away. actually thee problem is that an open marriage is a weird look! don't you own your wife?? cmon#and also its handling was; let's say; ''underwhelming.'' up next rian being horrible always but this is also: nothing!#including: not an arc. never gave her one. And That's Women! (rian oughting to be textually nonbinary but started off slightly too late)#that's also; relevantly: Power Dynamics! well don't be rude about it. claiming victimhood? demeaning. abuse does show you care at all tho#winston billions#like this when wendy's Supposed to be [right] in being more independent(tm) from these shit men.#this when prince is Supposed to be wrongish for using his power to take advantage of someone. this is what we are mustering#this and that if you abuse your autistic coworker the only thing Wrong about it is that you're being too nice in not ignoring them more#good thing we know rian did that too! the Empowerment deserved; like claiming fault for prince's actions#god only knows why it was important taylor make some pass out of nowhere & rian also be Responsible for their feelings abt rejection....#well but some ppl Do have a degree of entitlement to sex! the worthier ones. it Must be explained why this doesn't mean taylor's Unworthy#anyways underwhelmingly typical but sometimes it is like i am throwing billions through a wall. thus just posting it out lmao

trying to crack ep3 is SO hard. wuvvy. hob. what is going on in ur little heads
#like the best i can get at for wuvvy is#1) she doesnt smell smoke and thinks of hob as a person who gave rue cause to write their letter / led them on#2) she DOES smell smoke and realizes hob could pull rue away from their role (destabilizing/dismantling her role) so she tries to deter him#3) same as 2 but she is genuinely trying to kill him?#4) she is wounded by rue but sublimates her anger through hob as the cause of their actions towards her#5) she is wounded by rue bc she is suddenly aware that they are capable of seeking something else and she acts on impulse to hold them back#5.5) i have to think shes acting on impulse. wuvvy is calculating but not like this#6) she is wounded bc she is rue's protector and she does not know how to protect them#and 7) hob really pissed her off in that conversation#knick is both harder and easier to understand#my guess is: he wanted to apologize to rue earlier but chose not to out of fear of being scorned by his superiors#and now wuvvy appears to demonstrate the failure of that choice and the apparent worsening of rue's injury#he is guilty but then cannot get wuvvy to provide a path for remediation and hob NEEDS someone else to tell him what to do#how to resolve the guilt#bc if someone gives him the structure by which to act no one can blame him for doing it wrong#instead wuvvy insists on the guilt. perhaps she sees him as a rake perhaps a political enemy perhaps a threat of a more personal nature--#--she thinks he mocks her. she mocks him. it hurts. he chooses the only structure he knows which is satisfaction through violence#but i dont know what provoked them. why either of them react so so strongly and why the scene escalates so quickly#so uh if u have some answer for me.... hmu
