i just had the worst nightmare about my new office job. IRL the building is set up as a big circle, with long halls lined with doors, bookcases, or tall desks, and i'm one of the last people there. in my nightmare i kept hearing things like someone ripping a piece of tape or dropping a book all the way at the end of the building and when i would go out in the hall i'd see a white, featureless head peaking out a door but if i went after it it would be gone. also after i would go to investigate the sounds would come from the other end. i've worked there four days and my brain is already perfectly capturing how dark the offices get and how sound echoes when the building is empty!
is this an omen lol

The taxi ride to the hotel was only five minutes and Sammy insisted on paying, which you didn’t object to. He held the door open for you to get in and made you wait in the car before running round the other side to open the door for you to get out, extending his hand to yours, helping you out the car door. He had his arm tightly wrapped around your waist as he led you through the hotel in central London. The bustling city noises slowly fading the deeper into the building you went. He was on the 35th floor, letting you into the room first so you could get your bearings. You went straight to the huge window, eyes open wide at the distant view of the Thames and London Eye. The white, red, blue and gold lights of the city lighting up the hotel room on their own, no artificial lights needed. “We don’t have to do anything by the way.” Sam shyly said from behind you, he’d stayed with his back against the door of the room, giving you some distance to explore and not wanting to overwhelm you. “Not that I expected it.” He started walking towards you waving his hands out in front of him. “Oh fuck, no… I mean like, I know I said about fucking you and the fact I’ve been hard all night but I’m not going to make you do anything you don’t want to do. I’m not a total scumbag. I’ll even sleep on the floor if you want. I just know it would have been hard for you to get home. I’m not saying I don’t want to fuck you either because my god, do I wanna do unspeakable things to you. I just-“ “Sammy, it’s okay. Slow down and take a second to breathe. I should be the nervous one here, not you. I’m a fan of YOUR band, I’m the one technically living that fan fiction fantasy right now. You’re all good, here. Trust me, I want this.” You walked towards him and wrapped your arms around his hips, looking up at him.
You really, really wanted this and it was about to happen. Thank fuck for the alcohol in your system and thank god you had decided to get on the contraceptive pill a few months ago. Sammy put his hands on each side of your face, foreheads pressed together, just how they’d been hours earlier in the green room. “I want you so badly, precious. If at any point you feel uncomfortable or you want me to stop, please just say. Okay?” You nodded your head, keeping your eyes locked onto his. “No, I need to hear you say it. You tell me to stop at any point and I will. Okay? Promise me, precious?” “I promise, Sammy.”
And with that, his lips were frantic against yours, his hands had worked their way down to your lower back to bring your body flush against his own.
You could taste the ale on his breath, you smelt the coconutty scent of dry shampoo in his hair and some sort of musky vanilla cologne on his skin. You lapped him up and parted your lips to let his tongue swipe into your mouth. Your knees weakening as your tongues danced against one another. You were both heavily breathing through your noses, neither of you wanting to break away for air. You felt the back of your knees hit the bed behind you. He had the control right now, he was guiding your body, lifting your arms above your head to lift your dress off. “Is this okay?” He asked, barely even a mutter. “Yeah…” you whispered straight into his mouth, not breaking the kiss. How could someone be so gentle yet frantic with their movements? Up until the fabric of your dress had momentarily covered your face, the kiss was not broken once, not even to talk. He tossed the purple garment to the floor before getting onto his knees in front of you. He looked up at you through his lashes, looking like an ethereal king, taking every inch of you in. He walked his fingers up to the hem of your tights before slowly pulling them down, leaving your black, lace thong underneath.
You stepped out of your tights, hands on Sams shoulders to keep you balanced. He remained on his knees, raking his eyes all over your body not quite believing you were real and standing in front of him. You kept your hands on his shoulders, bringing your fingers up through his hair and scratching your nails into his scalp. He moaned quietly to himself and leaned into your touch. “Fuck, precious. You’re so beautiful and you don’t even realise it. Do you?” His hands were on the sides of your thighs and he could feel your embarrassed squirm. “Every. Single. Part. Of. You. All of it’s beautiful, don’t ever feel nervous or embarrassed with me.” Placing one final kiss on your thigh he moved his lips towards the front of your underwear, kissing right where your clit was. Your entire body jolted. Again, you had used his shoulders to hold yourself still. Small moans started to escape your lips as he built up speed with his kisses over your most sensitive area. His tongue now working over you. “Precious, you taste better than anything I’ve ever had. Pure ecstasy. May I?” He signalled to the top of your thong, in a motion to pull them down.
“Not just yet… if that’s okay? I wanna try something, come here.” You brought your hand from his shoulder to underneath his chin, gently motioning him to stand up.
He held your waist tight and was soon inches above your face, you nearly forgot how much taller he was and it made your body jitter. “Let’s take this off, make it more even?” You motioned to his light blue button down. Before you could even lift a finger to remove it, he’d already thrown it into a heap on the floor. “Jeans too, precious? I’m intrigued as to what you’re wanting to try.” He says with a smirk and presses light kisses to your neck. Your eyes roll back slightly at the contact and you let out a slight moan. “My god, that noise. I’ve wanted to hear that all night. Right, jeans are coming off. I’ll leave the boxers to you, precious.” He winked at you and you couldn’t help but giggle as he struggled to peel off his skinny jeans, trying not to fall over his own feet.
You patted the edge of bed, motioning for him to sit, which he happily obliged to. Keeping his fingertips grazing up and down your soft skin at all times. He was perched on the edge of the bed, legs hanging off and feet on the floor. “Every time I see pictures of you in shorts on Instagram, I can’t help but stare at these.” You softly say before placing a kiss on his thigh. You walk over his right leg, straddling it before lowering yourself down, hooking your hands round his neck, weaving your fingers through his hair. “Fu- I can feel how wet you are, through that lace. All for me? Make yourself a good girl for me, precious. Rub yourself against me. I wanna see your fucked out face. No cumming though, not yet.” You nod, keeping your feet firmly planted and using his shoulders as arm rests, burying your head into the crook of his neck, you start to gently rock yourself back and forth on his thigh.
My god, the friction from your thong rubbing between the two body parts was so intense, how are you going to hold up if it already feels so good?
You pick up the pace, feeling slippery as your wetness is spilling out of your thong and across his leg. Your clit getting the majority of sensation from the tensing of his thigh. You can’t help but lean back, letting your head flop back with it, open mouthed and clenched eyes. Sammys holding your waist to stop you from falling backwards as you start whimpering at the pleasure. “Fuck baby, you’ve drenched my leg. I hope my thighs have lived up to your expectations. But you’ve had your fun, my turn now.”
You felt like you were on the edge and were slightly miserable when he picked you up by the waist, kissing in between your sternum and placing you gently on your back, against the soft, white bed sheets. Laid there in nothing but your black matching set, Sammy in just boxers. It was so intimate. You could see the arousal you’d left on his thigh. He walked to the end of the bed, looking down at you, you leaned back onto your elbows to get a better look at him.
“That was so fucking hot, you have no idea precious. Look at me.” You watched as his hand grabbed around his cock, you could see the outline through his boxers. He palmed it up and down a few times, causing your thighs to clench together. You whimpered “Please Sammy, I need you. Want you.” He chuckled lightly, before reaching two fingers down to his thigh, sliding it through the wet mess you’d left, and then looking directly in your eyes, licking the taste of you, off into his mouth. His eyes rolled back as he ingested your wetness. “Taste. So. Good. Precious. Come here.” He walked his fingers up your legs, smoothing the tips over the top of your thong before gently pulling them down, you lifted your ass and thighs to help him out. With that, you were nearly fully exposed. “That.” He nodded towards your bra “Off, now. Let me see all of you. I know your tits are gonna be just as gorgeous as this pussy is, fucccck.” He’s looking down at your open legs, biting his bottom lip and palming his throbbing dick through his boxers.
You lent up, leaning behind your back to unsnap the clasp of your black lace bra, ridding it to join the rest of the clothes on the floor. His mouth dropped at the site before him. He made you feel so wanted, so beautiful. “Precious, you really are something. You know that? I need you, right now. Gonna be a good little slut for me?”
The words he used sent a shiver down your body, pinging in that spot between your thighs. He got onto his knees, hooking his arms underneath your thighs, gently pulling you closer to his mouth. “Look at me, I want you to watch whilst I eat you out.”
His kisses got closer and closer, but not quite there. He gave your clit a small lick and looked up at you through his lashes. “Is that what you want pretty girl? You want my mouth round this sweet pussy?” You nodded, eagerly, nails scrunching the bedding underneath you. “He gave a gentle slap to your cunt. “Words, precious. Let me hear you. Do. You. Want. My mouth. Wrapped. Around. Your. Sweet. Pussy?”
“Yes Sammy, my god- please fuck.”
“That’s a good girl” he went back down flicking his tongue exactly how you wanted it. Your first sexual interaction and it’s like he just knew. His tongue licking long strokes, right from your entrance, up to the top of your clit, flat against it. Your moans getting louder, trying to keep your head up to watch him lap you up but failing. The pleasure was so intense, your head fell back as you pushed your hips into his mouth, mutely begging for more. “You have the sweetest tasting cunt, I could stay down here all day. Mmmmhm, precious. Let’s try this, shall we? See if you hold up.” He announces, lifting his fingers up and slowly pulling his arm from underneath your thigh. His mouth staying suctioned to your clit, dragging it gently in and out of his sucked lips. He entered two fingers at once, curving them the deeper he got in. “AHH fucccc- oh my god, Sammy. So fucking good, baby.” You sat back onto your elbows watching him and lent forward, grabbing one hand onto the back of his head, pushing yourself further onto his fingers.
“Cum for me precious, all over my fingers, in my mouth, I want your sweetness.” The sensation was so overwhelming and you could feel yourself about to come undone. Your core started clenching around him as he gave a few final thrusts of his fingers, keeping the motion of his lips, sucking on your clit. “That’s it, I feel you. Mmmm fuck.”
Everything went blurry, this orgasm was like nothing you’d had before. Something you couldn’t even dream of. Your entire body jolted as you could have sworn you screamed loud enough for the entire hotel to hear. “SAAAMMY!! YESSSS, FUCCCK, OHHH FUCK!!” You don’t know how hard you pulled his hair, he grunted through the pain and smiled up at you, watching you crumble due to his talented mouth and hands.
“You sound like a fucking goddess. You were a good girl, cumming for me when I asked. Look at that pretty pussy, leaking for me. So much cum. Come here, precious. Want you to taste yourself.”
He climbed over you and you felt his cock against your stomach as he leaned down to kiss you. There it was, the taste of your cum. Sweeter than expected, and you could taste him also. A euphoric mix of tastes. “See how sweet you are, precious? All of that for me. I would want you to suck my cock, watching you take me in your mouth, but I can’t wait. I need to be inside you. Is that okay?”
He was keeping the entirety of his body weight off of you, leaning against his hand that he had placed beside your head. You stayed like this for a while, just kissing, dancing around each others tongues, taking it all in, bodies together, skin, breaths, sweat, arousal. Perfect.
“Come here gorgeous.” He stood back and signalled for your hands. “I want you over here…” he pointed at the sofa against the wall. “I don’t even know if I’ll be able to stand up.” you laughed, slightly embarrassed. “I’m that good, huh? Please tell me you’ve had an orgasm like that before, precious? You only deserve to feel good like that, any time anybody touches you.” You shook your head. “That was the most euphoric thing I’ve ever felt.” You said softly as you took his hands and stood, falling into his chest. He steadied you, putting his fingers under your chin and leaning down to press a soft kiss to your forehead, then your nose, each cheek and then your lips. “Well, I’m sorry nobody’s made you feel how you should feel. But I’m kinda glad I was the first one that did. That’s not the last time you’re gonna feel that good though, precious. Come on.”
He held his hand out behind him, intertwining his fingers with yours, and walked you forward to the sofa. He placed his hands on your shoulders, tracing his fingertips up and down the tops of your arms. “Come, sit on top of me you beautiful girl. y/n I can’t believe how much I- Nevermind. Just come here.” Before he sits on the sofa, he hooks his thumbs under the top of his boxers and pulls them down his legs. His dick springs out and slaps against his stomach. “Jesus fuck.” You can’t help but gasp out, you thought you’d said in your own head… oops. “Oh god, are you disappointed?” He sounded defeated and slightly embarrassed. You pushed your body flush to his, snaking your hand down, brushing over his ridiculously hard cock. He shuddered under your touch. “It’s perfect, it’s very… big. I’ll take it all though, even if it hurts a little.” You smirk, taking his bottom lip in between your teeth. You’re pretty sure he melted at your words. “Fucccck, precious. Full of surprises.”
He walked backwards, perching on the end of the sofa, leaning back and pulling you on top, to straddle him. He wasn’t inside you yet, just rest flat against your folds and you felt the head of him vibrating deliciously against your clit. He was hungry for it. You both cupped each others faces in your hands, kissing each other. Not as frantic as before, gentle and soft, more passionate. Romantic almost? No, baby… don’t get ahead of yourself. “Are you ready, precious? I can’t wait much longer, I want you so bad.” He whispers against the nape of your neck, next to your ear, causing goosebumps to form over your entire body. “Ready, Sammy.” You lifted your hips up for him, he slipped his hand round the base of his cock, pulling it back and forth between your lips. You flinched with every pass against your clit, still ridiculously sensitive from your previous orgasm.
Foreheads pressed together, you eased yourself onto him. Feeling his tip inside you first, you both gasped at the warmth, wet feeling. “Oh my god.” You said in a breath. “Yeah” he whispered, “oh my god.” You slowly lowered yourself down, feeling him stretch you open and fit inside you perfectly. You could hear how wet you were. Your foreheads still pressed together, looking at each others eyes through your lashes. It was so intimate, so personal. You could stay like this forever, in this perfect moment. Your tits pressed against his chest, arms wrapped around his neck, his hands on your hips, guiding you up and down his length.
He fit perfectly inside of you. “You feel fucking incredible, precious. I don’t think I’ll last long.” He leaned back, allowing his ass to fall off the sofa, giving him the freedom to take over and snap his hips into yours. Thrusts becoming harder and a lot faster, causing your tits to bounce, he welcomed one of your nipples into his mouth, using his tongue, tensed up to lick small circles round it before nipping it slightly, sucking and then gently letting it fall back into place before resting his forehead back on yours. You took all of him, his entirety was inside of you, you were sat on the base of his dick, balls deep. It stung slightly but the pleasure was far more overpowering. “You feel so good, you fill me up so nice, Sammy.” “Baby, you saying things like that is gonna make me cum. My cock feels so good in your pretty pussy. I wanna empty inside you. Fucccck- you’re gorgeous.”
It was blissful, you could feel him twitching, you knew you were close too. Your foreheads staying connected the entire time, lightly kissing each other from time to time, but mainly taking in the feeling of this contact. He started to roll his hips upwards and into you. He took his thumb, hooking it into your mouth. “Wet this for me, precious. Gonna make this orgasm of yours incredible, promise.” You did as you were told and sucked on his thumb slightly, watching his eyes roll back and a soft groan escape his mouth. Using that thumb, he reached down and started rubbing circles on your clit. This caused crashing waves inside you. “Fuck fuck fuck. I can’t, I’m gonna cum, Sammy.” You squealed. “Yes baby, let go for me… be my good little slut. Cum all over cock, make me happy, precious.”
And just like that, with his words you completely came undone. Your body becoming almost limp as Sammy hooked his arms behind your back to keep you from falling off of him. You don’t even know what noises had made their way out your mouth. He was kissing you all over, your neck was being sprinkled with nips, licks and kisses. “I’m right there precious, I’m gonna fill you up. Fuck baby. This is perfect.”
You pressed your lips to his as you felt his warm release start to empty inside of you.
Every moan, pant and grunt that came from him was like music. His dick twitching inside of you, reeling from the euphoric moment he had just experienced. Foreheads back together, panting, catching your breaths. You caught each other’s eye and giggled. Holding onto one another and lightly sprinkling kisses over each others faces.
“Wanna stay like this forever, ya know?” He said, leaning his head against your shoulder, tucking his face into your neck and placing soft kisses there.
“I know, me too” you pressed your lips and nose to the top of his head, breathing him in.
After the clean up process, which Sammy was more than attentive to. Picking you up and carrying you bridal style to the bathroom, he ran you a steamy shower and insisted on washing your hair for you. He massaged your neck and shoulders whilst lathering you with body wash. You made out a few times in the shower. Passionate more than anything, he called you beautiful more times than you could count. He let you wash your face and sort yourself out whilst he went back into the hotel bedroom and folded your clothes for you. He left one of his t shirts out for you to change into, he had a bottle of water on the nightstand and had placed your phone on charge for you.
You walked out naked, he was already sat in bed, just boxers on. He was half sat up and as soon as you had stepped out, you felt his eyes scanning every part of you. He slapped his hands up to his face “wow, wow, wow.” You chuckled, reaching for the t shirt. “Oh stop it, I’m sure you’ve slept with supermodels and many 10 out of tens, I’m just, me.”
“Just me. Here, right now.” He demanded with a furrow in his brow and patted the open spot next to him. You crawled in next to him, curious as to what had riled him up. You sat down, knees pulled to your chest, the scent of him on the t shirt filling your nose. He put a hand on your cheek. “Preci- Jessica. You are nothing short of absolutely beautiful. It doesn’t matter who either of us have slept with. That moment we just had was other worldly. It’s a big deal for me now, I don’t just sleep with anybody, like I would have done a couple years back. But you, I don’t know. There’s something about you, y/n. It drew me in from the moment I saw you across the stage and it keeps pulling me. The entire set, I could see you side stage and I tried to shake it, thinking of you as just a fan but you radiate something. Gorgeous.” He huffed as he kissed your nose. “Then, the dressing room happened, I tried to be hostile and push the emotions away but nope, your weird magic aura pulled me in.” He said with a chuckle.
Your stomach was doing summersaults and you were hanging on his every word.
“Sammy- I don’t even know wha-“ he pressed his finger against your lips. “I know, me either. It’s weird huh? Known each other less than 24 hours and already so drawn into each other. It’s one of those gravitational pulls, can’t ignore those, precious. The universe says so. Well, I guess you’re not in twin lane after all, huh?” He laughed. You felt your entire body tense up and were grateful he won’t see the blush across your cheeks in the dark room. “Wha- how do you? No! I don’t know what you mean.” He laughed, poking you in the ribs “relax, I’m just teasing! Jita mentioned it to me and I felt a bit defeated thinking I wouldn’t stand a chance. Twin lane girls are hardcore. But I’d say I converted you to Sammy lane, huh?” You rolled your eyes, looking up at him and leaning into his chest. He wrapped his arms round you and placed a long kiss on top of your head. You both slid further down the bed and closer to one another.
“It’s going to be a weird journey home for me tomorrow. Gonna feel empty. Bittersweet.” You say through a sad sigh. He presses his lips to your knuckles. “Then don’t go tomorrow.” He was serious. “What? What do you mean? You guys are going to Dublin and then… well… all over Europe. I’m not just going to stay in London by myself.” You laughed, unsure as to where he was going with this. “Well, you mentioned at the bar that you work for your parents, right? Pretty freely too? So teccccchnically, you’re not held down to anything?”
He nudges for you to say something.
“Yeah, technically but wha- I don’t, where are you going with this?” Asking confused.
“Come with me, precious. Come on tour with me. I want nothing more. I can get it arranged for you to be taken home, get what you need, pack a case and then be in Dublin to meet us again. You know how fucking happy Jita would be? Not having to be the only girl and having someone help her wrangle us up!”
This was madness but like he said, there was that gravitational pull and you couldn’t fight it. You were having an internal battle with yourself, you already couldn’t imagine being without him.
“Fuck it, I’ll come. I’ll do it, Sammy.” You grinned, leaning up to kiss him. He welcomed it and slid his tongue in. It was gentle, so soft and the butterflies came. “Precious, you have no idea how happy I am right now.” You cuddle back down, becoming the little spoon, his hand snakes round your waist, finding your hand and interlocking with your fingers. “The guys were right.” he breathed into the back of your neck. “Hmm?” You sleepily replied. “They will be seeing you again very soon after all… and often.” You could hear him smiling. Before you knew it, both of you had drifted off, holding one another. It hadn’t even been 24 hours, but it was perfect. A fan fiction, come true. Starcatcher Tour Europe, here we come.

What is Publicly Known About JFK's Assassination - So Far
Tumblr media
© Photo : Public domain
— Andrei Dergalin | Sputnik International | December 15, 2022
The death of US President John F. Kennedy nearly sixty years ago gave rise to quite a few conspiracy theories as many people were not convinced by the official narrative of the tragic events.
The US government is expected to release a trove of documents related to probably one of the most infamous assassinations of political figures in the 20th century – the murder of the 35th President of the United States John Fitzgerald Kennedy – this upcoming December 15.
The president’s (alleged) killer was swiftly identified and apprehended by authorities, and several official investigations were conducted in order to shed light on this tragic event. Nonetheless, JFK's murder spawned a number of conspiracy theories, with quite a few people in various corners of the world expressing their doubts about the official narrative.
Tumblr media
Who Shot JFK?
John Fitzgerald Kennedy was murdered on November 22, 1963, while visiting the city of Dallas. As the presidential motorcade was moving through Dealey Plaza, Kennedy was shot twice – once in the back and once in the head – while he was riding in an open-topped limo and waving at the crowds greeting him.
The POTUS was promptly rushed to Parkland Hospital where he was soon pronounced dead.
The shooting was apparently carried out from the sixth floor of the nearby Texas School Book Repository where authorities found the murder weapon – a Carcano M91/38 bolt-action rifle.
Lee Harvey Oswald, a former US Marine who worked as an order filler at the book repository and who purchased the aforementioned rifle, was arrested later that day on suspicion of murdering police officer J.D. Tippit shortly after the shooting at the Dealey Plaza, and was eventually charged with Kennedy’s assassination as well.
Oswald, however, denied shooting either man. Authorities soon found themselves unable to interrogate him further on account of his own death: on November 24, Oswald was shot and killed by nightclub owner Jack Ruby when the cops were transferring the suspect to another jail.
Ruby himself was charged with the murder of Oswald but managed to successfully appeal his conviction, only to die of cancer in 1967.
Tumblr media
How US Government Investigated Kennedy’s Assassination
On November 29, 1963, Kennedy’s successor Lyndon B. Johnson established the Commission on the Assassination of President Kennedy chaired by Earl Warren, US chief justice, via executive order.
The commission, which became informally known simply as the Warren Commission, presented its findings to Johnson in September 1964, arguing that both Oswald and Ruby were acting alone and weren’t part of some bigger conspiracy.
The Warren Commission also brought forth the so-called single-bullet theory, which essentially claimed that both JFK and Texas Governor John Connally - who was also riding on the presidential limo at the time of the shooting and who likewise sustained a gunshot wound (but survived) when the president was fatally shot - were both hit by a single bullet.
A subsequent investigation by medical experts appointed in 1968 by then-Attorney General Ramsey Clark, however, established that Kennedy was hit by not one but two bullets.
The matter of Kennedy’s murder was also brought up about a decade later in 1975 by the Rockefeller Commission (officially known as the US Presidential Commission on CIA Activities within the United States) which was established at the behest of US President Gerald Ford and whose goal was to investigate the Central Intelligence Agency’s activities within the country.
Having reviewed claims and allegations of the CIA involvement in the assassination and the spy agency’s relations with Oswald and Ruby, the Rockefeller Commission found little substance to them, essentially upholding the version of events brought forth by the Warren Commission.
However, the US House Select Committee on Assassinations, which was established in September 1976, pointed at the likelihood of Kennedy being killed as a result of a conspiracy, as well as the probability of a second shooter being involved in the plot.

Why Some People Doubt Official Narrative of JFK Assassination
While US government officials and lawmakers spent quite some time looking into the matter of Kennedy’s assassination, a considerable amount of documents related to it remained classified.
This situation, along with the fact that the only suspect was killed shortly after the president’s shooting and before being able to divulge any potentially sensitive information, as well as the apparent inconsistencies in the government investigators’ findings, led to the creation of many conspiracy theories primarily dealing with who might have masterminded the killing.
In light of the mounting public skepticism regarding the official narrative of the president’s killing, the US Congress in 1992 passed the so-called Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act ordering the collection and release of the materials pertaining to the case in question.

While the US National Archives started releasing these documents in 2017, US President Joe Biden suspended the release of the remaining records in 2021 under the pretext of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Biden administration did, however, promise to release the documents on a later date, with the deadline being December 15, 2022.

$600 Per Night Luxury Westin Harbour Castle Toronto Hotel by Marriott
Luxury Hotel Review | Westin Harbour Castle Toronto Hotel by Marriott
I always wanted to spend a night at the Westin Harbour Castle Toronto Hotel, which is known for its stunning views. An opportunity was presented when I got a deal from Marriott – so I didn’t have to pay the full prices.
When I checked in on Friday, my penthouse room on the 35th floor was going for $600 or more. Once I was inside the room, I came to the conclusion that it was worth paying for just for the view.
In the lobby or other areas of the hotel, it looks like just another Marriott hotel for $200 per night. However, when you get in the room and see the view, that makes the stay worthwhile.
I had a full lake view overlooking the Toronto Islands, Billy Bishop Airport, the pristine blue waters of Lake Ontario, and you even have far-off, shimmering views of Niagara Falls and the US border. On my right side I also had a partial downtown Toronto city view, including the CN Tower. It was like the best views of all sides.
The fun part was watching planes landing and taking off and seeing cruise boats and other boats crossing the waters. I did several timelapses and videos for my YouTube Channel.
The sunrise and sunset added an extra charm to the views and they were awe-inspiring. At night, the views totally changed. The Islands had some lights in the evening, but later on only a few lights remained. The airport runway looked amazing with all the different colored lights.
I was content having lots of photo and video opportunities in such a short time. I hope to return to the Westin Harbour Castle Toronto Hotel again in the future when an opportunity presents itself.

Chapter 11: An Ass by Any Other Name
“Oh. My. God.”
As stupid as the words sounded, you couldn’t help the way they slipped breathlessly from your lips as the elevator door slid open to reveal the Mandarin Oriental Hotel’s 35th floor. Nana had told you, as soon as Pepper sent the details of your “business meeting,” that Asiate was fancy, but nothing could have prepared you for this. Wood paneled floors, golden lighting, a panoramic view of the city twinkling across the bay–suddenly the nicest dress in your closet felt shabby in comparison.
Not that your realization that you had said that out loud helped matters. Your mouth snapped shut as you threw a hasty glance at Pepper. “I mean–It’s…”
“It’s really nice, isn’t it?” Pepper stepped from the elevator and it took every ounce of self-control you had to follow her. “A little much, but Tony is supposed to have dinner here with a client in two weeks. If he’s going to pester the wait staff, it will be best if he has the opportunity to do so now.”
“Er.” You stopped and looked back just in time to see the elevator doors close. “Does that happen…often?”
Pepper chuckled. “It depends on how attractive they are.” You must have looked a little pale because she offered you a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry; Tony will be on his best behavior tonight. At least, he’ll probably be too distracted to bother anyone that works here too much.”
“Distracted?” you asked.
Too bad that Pepper never had a chance to explain herself. Before she could, a very professional-looking gentleman arrived at the host podium. The thought of escaping back into the elevator did occur to you, but there was the slight problem of having arrived with Pepper to consider. She would probably notice your absence even if no one else did.
“May I help you?” the man asked.
“We’re here to meet a couple of gentlemen,” Pepper answered.
The man smiled. “Mr. Stark?”
“That’s the one.”
“Right this way.”
The man lifted his right arm. You ducked your head as you followed Pepper deeper into the restaurant. Some sort of gentle instrumental music tinkled through hidden speakers, but that didn’t make you feel any less nervous.
“Oh, there they are,” you heard a new male voice say.
Almost of its own accord, your head snapped up and toward the owner of that voice. Dr. Banner, looking almost-red faced and very uncomfortable, sat at a table near the back next to the the thin, dark haired man that had spoken. Undoubtedly this was Tony Stark; you could tell by his manner even without having seen him on the news every other day for the past few months.
“Here we are,” Pepper answered primly as the pair of you drew closer to where they were seated.
Dr. Banner shifted a bit, his face half-turned in your direction. Mr. Stark, however, only had eyes for Pepper. He smirked.
“Took you long enough–and I gave you my best driver, too.”
“He’s the best driver we have because he doesn’t take risks that will wreck your fancy car.”
Their banter sounded casual and well-practiced. As you expected them to go at it for at least a few minutes, you were surprised when Mr. Stark turned his wide brown eyes toward you. You didn’t think it was just your imagination that made his smile look almost predatory.
“And you must be the famous [F Name] [L Name],” he said.
“Um…” Not the best way to introduce yourself, but in your defense, you were distracted. Instead of pulling out your own chair and settling in, a man dressed in the same uniform as the man up front came out of nowhere to pull the chair out for you. “Thanks,” you said, awkwardly sitting down and shoving a lock of hair behind your ear.
The glossy menu in your place caught your attention then. Without thinking, you picked it up and didn’t remember where you were until a throat cleared across the table. There was nothing like looking like an idiot five minutes into meeting Tony Stark.
You squeezed your eyes shut for a half a second before you put the menu down to look at him. “Eh?”
“Well?” Mr. Stark asked with that same sardonic smile. “Are you?”
“Am I what?”
“[F Name] [L Name]?”
As if he didn’t already know. Mr. Stark had been making your life an uncomfortable hell for the past two weeks. You bit back this retort, though, and answered with a simple, “yes.”
He gave Pepper a gentle nudge with his elbow without looking away from you. “Could have picked a smarter one.”
“Tony…”
“Oh, I’m just kidding. You ever been here, [Name]?”
Now it was you that had to squirm. “It’s not exactly in my price range.”
“Well, running a grocery store can’t have all the perks, I guess. How’s that going, by the way? How’s Nana? Didn’t take a spill, did she?”
“Nana is fine, thank you.”
“Tell her hello for me.”
“Yes, sir. I will. She’ll be very happy to hear from you, I’m sure.”
“Naturally.”
The server arrived, looking not at all intimidated by the people at the table. “Have you all decided on what you’ll be having this evening?” he asked.
Mr. Stark handed him his menu before answering: “The dinner tasting menu, please. Wine pairing, too.”
Never mind Asiate being out of your price range–a dinner tasting menu definitely was. $135 for a meal was not something you could afford. “Not for me, please. I–”
“My treat,” Mr. Stark said before you could explain yourself.
The server watched until you gave a barely perceptible nod. Arguing just didn’t seem as if it would be effective in this environment.
“Of course. I will be back shortly.” After a small bow, he left you to the sharks.
Desperate to avoid any further conversation with Mr. Stark, you turned wildly to your right. “How are you this evening, Dr. Banner?”
However he was feeling before, it was clear Dr. Banner was now very startled–it looked as if he hadn’t expected you to address him. Before he could answer, Tony broke in with a laugh.
“Dr. Banner? You still call him that?”
“Well, I–” you started. At the same time, Dr. Banner said, “Tony, don’t–”
Both of you fell into silent at once. You grabbed the edge of the table cloth near your lap.
Mr. Stark’s eyebrows lifted; he looked utterly delighted. “His name is Bruce, you know. Or are you just overly formal?”
At least he hadn’t implied you were going home to play doctor later. You took a deep breath, released the table cloth, and tried to keep your voice as even as you could to answer Mr. Stark. “Dr. Banner and I aren’t close enough that I feel comfortable calling him by his first name.”
“I’ll bet,” Mr. Stark crossed his arms over his chest, “he hasn’t asked you to. Bruce?”
Dr. Banner adjusted his glasses and moved his napkin to his lap. “No, I haven’t.”
“See? It’s fine. Call him Bruce.”
“All right, that’s enough,” Pepper broke in. She shot Mr. Stark a look just as the server returned with a bottle of wine. You only caught a glimpse of the label–Schramsberg, Brut Rosé–before the man started to pour the pink, bubbling liquid into your glasses. “We’re here to enjoy a nice night out, just the four of us.”
“I am enjoying myself,” Mr. Stark insisted.
Pepper frowned. “Play nice.”
“I’d like to play with you later.”
“Not at the table, Tony.”
You sighed. At least his focus seemed to have shifted to Pepper. You took a sip of your wine as you glanced over at Dr. Banner. His eyes darted toward you at the same moment; you thought they might have rolled, but before you could ask if Mr. Stark was always like this, the first plate of food arrived.
“Hamachi with preserved cherry blossom and white soy ponzu,” a man announced as four servers placed the meal in front of you and the rest of those at the table.
Mr. Stark looked at the little slice of pink-brown meat. “Kind of small, don’t you think?”
The man’s mouth fell open slightly. Maybe he didn’t get that question much, although you had to agree. Thankfully, he looked to Pepper for advice instead of you.
“This is wonderful, thank you,” she said with a smile.
The servers left. For one blessed moment, the only sounds at the table were those of silverware clacking against the plate. At least the food was good–really good, you thought as you chewed slowly and savored the silence.
“Pretty good,” Mr. Stark said himself. “Think we could get them to serve larger portions? Seems a waste when–”
“Stop making trouble and just eat your meal,” Pepper said.
Mr. Stark shrugged and stuffed almost all of what was left into his mouth. “What about you, [Name]? You like this…what was it called?”
“Hamachi,” Pepper said before taking a small bite of her own.
“Hamachi, right. How do you like it?”
You swallowed. “It’s amazing,” you said honestly. “Probably hard to make on my budget, though.”
“Well, why don’t you try being something other than a grocer? Show a little initiative.”
Your heart gave an angry bang inside your chest. When you set your fork down carefully next to your empty plate, it was only to give yourself time to think of something semi-polite to say in return. When nothing came to mind, you just looked back toward the kitchen in silence.
“Miss [L Name]?” Dr. Banner asked gently. “Are you all right?”
“Not you, too, Bruce,” said Mr. Stark. “You’ve been out with her before! It’s just [Name], right?”
You didn’t answer.
“What’s wrong with you? Did I strike a nerve?”
Again, you took a very deep breath before re-entering the conversation. “I am a grocer by necessity, Mr. Stark, not by choice. Someone has to take care of my grandmother.”
“Wouldn’t getting a higher paid job help with that?” Mr. Stark asked as the servers swooped in again, took the dirty plates, and replaced them with tiny bowls of what appeared to be oatmeal shot through with leafy vegetable and topped by a sunny-side-up egg.
“Buckwheat and eggs,” the man from before announced, “made with soba noodles, osetra caviar, and uni cream.”
“Oh, caviar. Hard to afford that on a grocer’s salary, eh?”
You leveled a cold glare at Mr. Stark. The waiters, either oblivious to the chilly atmosphere or wishing to ignore it, took your wine glasses and replaced the bottle with a tall white one with Japanese characters on it.
“The wine,” the man continued, “is Shirataki, ‘Sara Wind,’ from Junmai Sake in Japan.”
You took a sip and dug into your egg.
“Look, if you’re going to date Bruce, it’s just going to look a little bad. He’s a doctor, after all. Graduated top of his class.”
“That’s funny,” you said without looking away from your food. “Because Dr. Banner hasn’t mentioned being embarrassed to be seen with me at all–and he’s not the one that asked me to be present.”
“Well, Bruce is too nice to say anything. Right, Bruce?”
“Tony, drop it,” Dr. Banner said.
“I just meant, if you wanted to get serious. You’ll have to take care of Nana, too, you know, if–”
You got to your feet and stood ramrod-straight as you stared at Tony Stark.
“Thank you,” you said in the brief surprised silence that followed. “For the lovely evening, Mr. Stark. I’m afraid, however, that I have work tomorrow and really must be going.”
Without waiting to hear anyone respond, you threw your napkin into your chair and stalked from the restaurant.
******
Thirty-five stories below, the sidewalk was crammed with hotel patrons entering and exiting for the night. A steady stream of cars flew by, but none slowed to help the shivering woman standing waving for a taxi. As much as Bruce hated crowds, he maneuvered as quickly (and carefully) as he could through it and to your side.
“Taxi!” you shouted as a yellow vehicle sped past and through the nearby red light. “Taxi! Oh come on!”
“Do you need me to call Happy for you?”
You looked over. Bruce couldn’t really fault you for the expression your face. He knew Tony could be bad–Bruce had had the unfortunate experience of several meetings locked in a room with Tony, Steve, and Nick Fury–but this was pushing it.
“No,” you said shortly. “I just want a taxi so I can go home, take care of my grandmother, and get up to be made fun of for it again because Tony Stark has made it his personal mission in life to make my life miserable.”
“Ah…” Bruce shifted backwards slightly, unsure of how to answer that–though, of course, it wasn’t exactly a question.
Luckily, you seemed prepared to continue without him. You shot Bruce another look full of venom as you tried and failed to hail another cab. “Your friend is a real asshole, you know that?”
“I am,” Bruce winced, “painfully aware of how he can come across like that.”
You paused, then whirled toward him. Your heels clicked against the sparkling pavement. “Come across like that?” you demanded. “Tony Stark spent an hour just now telling me I’m not suited to be in his presence because I’m poor. And I’m not even poor!”
“I know.” He held up his hands. “But trust me. Tony is a good guy. He is Iron Man.”
Anger colored your face right up to the hairline. “So what?” you asked. “He’s a superhero, so he can do whatever the hell he wants? Collateral damage is fine so long as he saves a couple of lives every once and awhile?”
“Well…no,” Bruce said, interlocking his fingers while he looked at you over the rim of his glasses.
You looked away and stuffed your hands into your armpits. “He’s an asshole,” you said, a bit more quietly as you stared at the curb.
“He shouldn’t have said any of that. Sorry you had to come.”
“Yeah, well, I won’t be making that mistake again. Don’t ask your friends to do you anymore favors, okay?”
“Favors?” Bruce narrowed his eyes, then widened them almost immediately. “You think I asked Tony and Pepper to do this for me?”
“What else am I supposed to think? It’s not like we’re in high school anymore. If you wanted to go out with me, you should have just asked. I would have said no, but then at least we could have avoided this whole fiasco.”
Bruce lifted one hand to his face and took a deep breath. His arm dropped to his side before he spoke again. “I did not ask Tony to ask you out for me. I actually asked him not to.”
“Then why all this?”
“Tony decided to…” Bruce eyed the flashing lights above his head as he crammed his hands into his pockets. “‘Help’ me. I don’t get out much and he decided you were the safest choice to get me out of the Tower.”
“What?” you asked blankly.
“I just don’t like to socialize. Believe me, Tony tricked me every bit as much as he tricked you.”
“Even tonight?”
“Even tonight.”
You stared at Bruce for a moment, then slowly sunk into a crouch. “Oh.”
“I’m still sorry about all this.”
A funny sound issued from your buried head. Bruce frowned. It took you looking straight up at him, grinning, for him to realize the gurgle had been a laugh. “And yet you still say he’s not an asshole.”
Bruce offered you a hesitant smile in return. “He’s an asshole, no doubt. But he’s also a good guy. You just have to get to know him.”
You stood up, your smile now a little wry, then walked toward the curb. Finally, a cab responded to your wave and pulled gently up. “I think I’ll just keep my relationship with Mr. Stark as is, if you don’t mind.”
It was quite clear you meant that as a dismissal since you stepped right into the darkness of the cab’s interior as you said it. Bruce, however, still felt guilt gnawing at his stomach. It was his fault, after all, that Tony had decided to push things this far. He walked quickly up to the cab and placed his hands above the opening before you could slam the door shut.
“Look, are you sure you don’t want to come back upstairs and finish dinner?” he asked over the puttering of the cab’s motor.
You shook your head. “What, and listen to Mr. Stark’s running commentary again?”
“Pepper has probably finished reaming him out by now,” Bruce said with a glance toward you. When you didn’t respond, he continued, “She likes you.”
“She does?”
He wet his lips and nodded with his palm still pressed up against the door frame.
“Tell her I said sorry for ruining her evening. And yours, too.”
“Don’t worry about it. I’ve had worse. If anyone ruined anything, it was Tony.”
“Hey, lady!” The cab driver called. “You staying with lover boy here or what? The meter is running!”
“I’ve got to go,” you said to Bruce.
He hastily took a step back onto the sidewalk. “Right. See you later.”
You paused, then shrugged. “Sure. Later.”
Bruce waved, shut the door, and watched as the taxi pulled screeching into the street. He sighed once, hands in his pockets, as he watched your taxi cab disappear into the New York City throng. He couldn’t blame you for hating him, but he felt at the moment as if leaving with you would have been ten times more enjoyable than going back upstairs with Pepper and Tony-good food or not.

On the observation level, which you can reach via a 43-second elevator ride, see the doodle-on-a-napkin concept that led to the Space Needle design. Views from the top feature Elliott Bay, the Cascade Mountains, and even Mount Rainier.

The designated historic landmark can reach a top speed of 45 miles per hour and weaves between skyscrapers above the city streets.
Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) -  Music, science fiction, and pop culture all come together at the fascinating Museum of Pop Culture. Head to the 10th floor for a light-filled reading room with peekaboo views of Elliott Bay, or take a self-guided cell phone tour.
Smith Tower -   Visit the city’s first skyscraper, built in 1914, and ride the historic, manually operated elevators to the 35th-floor observatory, where 360-degree views await. Displays tell the tale of characters who made Smith Tower what it is today, while the tower’s Prohibition-themed Temperance bar serves themed cocktails.
Seattle Aquarium -  Down at the Seattle Aquarium on the waterfront’s Pier 59, learn all about salmon, meet a few adorable sea otters, and greet the various sea creatures of the Pacific Ocean, from puffers to giant clams. Watch scuba divers feed the fish, gawk at sharks swimming overhead in the underwater dome, and even touch a sea anemone.
Seattle Great Wheel -  Although it was only built in 2012, the Seattle Great Wheel has quickly become a fixture of the city’s skyline—plus it adds an entirely new sightseeing perspective, thanks to its location perched on the end of Pier 57. Enjoy three revolutions around in one of the air-conditioned gondolas to see the city, water, and mountains on the horizon.
Starbucks Reserve Roastery & Tasting Room -  You won’t have trouble finding a Starbucks here in the company’s hometown, but you’ll want to seek out this special Starbucks experience on Capitol Hill. Trust the abyss - a Baldur's Gate 3 backstory. Ch. 2 Dinin, of no-house-worth-mentioning, stalked the courtyard of House Darketh wondering, not for the first time, why Jarlaxle had placed him on this infiltration mission.
The mysterious leader of Bregan D’aerthe always had his reasons but to Dinin, infiltrating the 35th noble house for the 25th noble house didn’t make much sense other than they had the coin to afford the elite mercenary band’s services.
It had been about six months since he was planted as a house guard and finally his cohorts had begun to include him in after-hour conversations, not that Dinin cared for the common rabble’s friendship, he just needed to be trusted.
Jarlaxle’s game was one of long-term plays.
He suspected it had to do with the gem trade in Menzoberranzan as both houses often competed for the same clientele.
Sighing, he kicked a rock as he readied himself to go on patrol, reminding himself the hundredth time to not act like the noble he still felt he was deep in his heart.
“Dinyrr, it’s time to go.”
He turned around to see Kelzt Tlin’oreza, one of the guards, beckoning him over to join the formation.
“Ilithid got your tongue, Dinyrr?” Kelzt asked, nudging him with his elbow as he got into place beside the annoyingly cheerful guard. “You don’t speak much.”
“You speak enough for the both of us,” Dinin replied dryly.
Kelzt seemed to have taken a liking to Dinin, to which he did not understand but it had begun to pay off as the other guards of his cohort finally seemed to begrudgingly accept his existence.
“This mission is going to be fun, night watch said they spotted signs of hook horrors – maybe we’ll get to wet our blades,” said the older drow.
“Maybe we’ll finally get to see you in action, Dinyrr, see if you live up to what Xakiir has said about you,” the youngest guard of the group, a drow with a bulbous nose named Masryn had taken his place on the other side of Kelzt.
Xakiir Darkethte was Jarlaxle’s contact inside House Darketh, who had worked his way up to weapons master after surrendering to the noble house after it defeated a lesser half a century ago, or so the story went.
Dinin, who was going undercover by the name of Dinyrr, had been brought in by Xakiir – a purchase from a slaver in Gracklstugh, a drow city about three tendays away – so the story was wove.
“I fought my way out of the slave pits of Gracklstugh, I have no fear of hook horrors,” he said, rubbing the back of his gloved hand against his chin, remembering the time he led a raid on the surface elves.
“Fair enough,” said Kelzt, shooting Masryn a silencing look. “I believe you would have been skilled to catch the eye of our weapons master lest you would still be in that backwater Gracklstugh and not here in Menzoberranzan, jewel of the Northdark.”
“Oy, shut your mouths you three,” the patrol leader, Taztar, fixed them with a glare.
With a twist of his wrist, he motioned for the gates to be opened and the ten-man patrol headed out towards the tunnel leading out of the spider city.
The tunnels outside of Menzoberranzan appeared to be quiet as the third patrol of House Darketh made their way through the chasm.
Dinin wondered to himself why they had left the city’s perimeter. On his previous patrols they had stayed tight to the region near the walls of Darketh.
Now instead they were deep into the tunnels leading towards Ched Nasaad. They had seen signs of hook horrors but so far they hadn’t been disturbed.  Hours passed uneventfully and they had left far behind tunnels that were familiar to the ex-elder boy of House Do’Urden. He was curious as to what they were doing so far from the city but he was beginning to grow bored when a tell-tale clack-clack-clack echoed up from the dark void in front of them.
Though of course the drow had slipped into the infrared vision upon leaving the city, the beasts up ahead were too far to spot and their exoskeletons all helped to hide their body heat. Taztar, the patrol leader held up his hand and the group stopped. Dinin's ear twitched as he heard a cascade of pebbles down a rock wall behind them.
"Taztar, I -" he began but a scowl from the head guard silenced him as the patrol leader focused his attention towards the clacking sound up ahead. Frustrated, Dinin tightened his grip on the sword at his side.
A horrific scream followed by a wet thud came from behind and as Dinin turned around, drawing his blade, he saw the warmth fading from the fallen body of one of the rear-guards of the troop. The hook horror's exoskeleton blurred the heat from the monster's form but Dinin was no stranger to the beasts and knew to watch for blurred motion in the infrared spectrum.
The metallic shing of swords being drawn echoed through the cavern as the patrol leapt to action - the hook horror lashed out at the next guard, it's scythe-like claw slicing the drow in half. From the front of the patrol, Taztar shouted as another beast hurtled towards them from the darkness.
Dinin cursed as he watched the one that had crept behind them slay a third guard.
Though the beast was five times his height, Dinin sprung towards it.
Kelzt was beside him, then veered away from him, his own blades drawn, and together they flanked the hook horror.
Driving his sword into a known soft spot between the hook horror's exoskeleton, Dinin wrenched the blade causing it to screech in agony. Kelzt mirrored his move on the right side.
He had lost count of the number of hook horrors he had slayed over the last century and remnants of his arrogance caused him to misstep and the blunt top of the creature's claw caught him in the cheek, knocking him down - it had been awhile since he had last fought hook horrors.
"Vith," Dinin hissed, his vision swam as he shakily got back up, his head reeling from the blow. He could hear the battle joined with the second hook horror.
"Are you all right, Dinyrr?" Kelzt shouted at him, still working his blade on the beast. For an older drow, Kelzt was nimble as he danced in between the creatures flailing hooks.
"I am but we need to get this abomination on it's back," he shouted back. Dinin's eyes darted back and forth, seeing nothing that could aid them in tripping the monster over.
Well, looks like I'll have to do it the hard way then, he thought to himself.
"Keep him busy, Kelzt!"
He caught the drow nod out of the corner of his eye. He assessed the situation, watching the bipedal being's feet as it lumbered back and forth, pressing it's attack against Kelzt.
Rushing forward, Dinin dropped himself down, plated leg amour scraped against the rock floor, and swung his blade across the back of the creature's knee, slicing through the connective tissue and bone, severing it from the rest of its body.
Blood spattered across the bridge of Dinin's nose. Its warmth made him grin.
The ground shook as the screeching hook horror fell onto its back, Dinin was pleased he had calculated the trajectory of the fall right. Both him and Kelzt seized the opportunity to plunge their blades deep into its exposed throat and belly.
It shuddered as it died.
Both Kelzt and Dinin went to join the remaining guards as they fought the second hook horror and it was slain.
They had left with ten including their leader, Taztar, yet only six remained.
Dinin held his tongue as the patrol leader motioned them to strip the dead of valuables before they continued on. The patrol leader should have known better than to await a hook horror's advance.
After the battle the group travelled in silence.
Suddenly patrol leader Taztar signaled the patrol to stop. They had come to what appeared a dead end but then a blue light illuminated a doorway, and a dwarf came out.
“This better be good, Drow,” said the gruff dwarven voice.
Dinin readied his weapons but Kelzt put a hand on his wrist to stay his blades.
“The last bout of information was not enough for us to act upon.”
“This time we bring you pertinent information, but I’ll see the gems first,” said Taztar, his smile glowing brightly in the infrared spectrum.
The dwarf motioned and someone inside the dwelling came forward with a chest.
Its lid creaked open as the patrol leader peered inside, sliding a hand in to sift through them.
“And you’ve dealt with House Neiren’s trading partners I presume?” He asked the dwarf.
“Ye bet yer foul self we have, drow. Now your turn?” The dwarf's voice sounded strained, like being the presence of drow was causing him utter pain from disgust. The dwarves themselves must be desperate if they were seeking the help of drow, Dinin wondered what it could be.
Taztar proceeded to detail the patrol route of none other than House Beanre - whose Matron Mother was reckoned to be over two thousand years old. Matron Beanre had been in Lolth's favour for so long that many saw her as the voice of the spider queen in Menzoberranzan.
Let alone where they acquired the patrol schedule and route was enough to have the first house wipe out this lesser family but to cut a deal with dwarves - Dinin shook his head. This House Darketh was mad.
“Her youngest son will be leading the patrols and will be accompanied by a priestess, one of her daughters, make it look like an accident,” Taztar finished sifting through the gems and closed the lid.
Dinin couldn’t believe what he was hearing but kept his face impassive, a skill he had become adept at in House Do'Urden.
This decrepit old house was selling information to a dwarven clan in exchange to wipe out a lesser house’s trading route? It made no sense unless Darketh was failing even worse than what they let the commoners hear.
He kept his demeanor calm during the exchange, but his mind was overflowing by the time they got back to Darketh’s courtyard.
“You know, Matron Vhonna has given us three cycles off – we should go to the bazaar,” Kelzt said quietly to Masryn after they had returned to the barracks.
“And by bazaar you mean the Jewel Box, don’t you?” Masryn laughed as he pulled a clean shirt over his head.
Dinin quietly placed his armour neatly into the trunk at the foot of his bed, trying not to appear interested in what the others were saying.
When he was a Do’Urden, he had only gone to the bazaar, the heart of Menzoberranzan, on occasion – such trips were mostly for the common folk. But he was no longer a Do’Urden and he wondered what the Jewel Box was.
Kelzt chuckled from the far corner of the room. “Of course, I mean the Jewel – with the score we secured for House Darketh today, we’ve earned a little play, I’d wager.”
Inwardly, Dinin knew that he would have to report to Jarlaxle what he had discovered of House Darketh – it was beginning to make sense to him why Bregan D’aerthe was involving itself in the squabble of lesser houses.
He hoped that Kelzt would be smart enough to drop his blades should the time come.
The sound of the annoyingly cheerful drow jolted Dinin from his thoughts.
“You must have rocks in your head,” said Kelzt. “I asked if you wanted to come to the bazaar with us - Narbondel is darkening, and you have yet to see much of the spider city since you’ve arrived here.”
“Yeah Dinyrr, it’s about time we initiated you into the third patrol of House Darketh, oldest of the noble houses,” said Masryn, a hint of stupid common-folk pride laced his voice.
Dinin fought the urge to roll his eyes at the younger male but decided that perhaps just once Jarlaxle could wait.

Rookie Crush Pt. 2 (Indoor Sin) - Tonpa x Chrollo **NSFW**
A/N: It turns out Tonpa x Illumi wasn’t forever. Also, please don’t unfollow me.
Part 1 here
---
Tonpa’s life had changed dramatically to say the least.
After receiving the dicking down of a lifetime right before the 35th Hunter Exam officially began and again while in Trick Tower (his bulbous nose darkened into a dusky red color just thinking about it), he’d expected nothing more from those entanglements only to receive a text message from an unknown number as he began the long way home after failing, yet again.
Illumi wanted to see him again, and Tonpa was on Cloud 9.
Aside from his admittedly sparse visits filled with short, intense bouts of passion -  Illumi was a busy man after all - he showered him with gifts, more than he could ever want. Tonpa, however, was wise enough to know nothing could come out long-term from such an arrangement, as Illumi was much younger and could obviously do better. Tonpa thought highly of himself but he wasn’t stupid, despite what others thought.
Tonpa contented himself with accepting Illumi’s gifts wholeheartedly, in however way, shape or incredibly sexy form they came in. There was a finality to this “relationship,” if you could even call it that. So Tonpa decided to milk it for what it was worth.
“Lumi?” Tonpa spoke up, raising himself onto his elbows from where he lay by the assassin to watch his beautiful lover from the side.
“Mm?” Illumi continued to stare at the ceiling blankly. Illumi’s unreadable expression had terrified him the first few times, and Tonpa worried that Illumi was (appropriately) regretting his decision to be with him, but by now he recognized this as what Illumi looked like at baseline. Illumi’s gaze slid to him, and Tonpa lightly dragged a finger up and down his muscular chest.
“Have you heard of the YorkNew City Auction? I would like to go… if it’s not too much to ask.”
---
Illumi worked the magic of cold, hard cash, and to Tonpa’s elation, he was now seated among the rich and the famous, clad in a fitted suit that cost much more than his entire life savings. The only thing that put a damper on this very moment in time was the fact that Illumi had declined to come with him, stating that he had an important mission to complete during that time. Tonpa decided not to be upset and focus on the here and now.
Unfortunately for him, in mere hours was a siege of the entire auction, and Tonpa found himself fleeing and taking cover. Fear coursed through him, and while he hoped and prayed his Lumi would come to his rescue, he was also thankful his love was not involved. If Tonpa were to die today, he would die a happy man anyway.
As he ran into a secluded building, serendipity struck a second time.
Tonpa stopped in his tracks as he turned a corner into a room, and saw the most horrifying sight he’d ever seen. A man dismembered against a wall, not bleeding but breathing, and not whimpering in pain despite looking as though large chunks had been bitten out of his body. Tonpa unintentionally let out a gasp, and the man’s eyes shifted to look right at him.
“Help… me…”
The soft iridescent glow coming from the room faded immediately, and Tonpa heard footsteps coming towards the door while the man who had cried for help breathed his last breath. Tonpa turned on his heels to run like hell again, only to hear a calm, yet firm voice.
“Stop right there.”
Tonpa froze in his tracks, his stomach turning.
“Turn around and face me.”
Tonpa turned 180 degrees and gazed into the gray, curious eyes of the most beautiful man he had ever met. Even with the soft glow of Chrollo Lucilfer’s Indoor Fish fading, the lights of the city under siege streamed through the glass, giving Lucilfer the look of an angel. Chrollo’s draw was magnetic and Tonpa’s feet stayed planted to the floor.
He should be running. But instead, the angel extended a hand to Tonpa and smiled with gleaming, white teeth as their palms touched.
“Your name?”
“T-Tonpa.” A warmth spread over his cheeks again, somehow still apparent in the dark of the room by the Chrollo’s confident smirk.
“Chrollo Lucilfer. Pleased to meet you. May I have this dance?” Chrollo drew the shorter man’s behind him by the arm without really waiting for a response, and with a flip of the pages of a book in his other hand, music seemed to fill the room, along with the same iridescent glow as before.
Tonpa looked up around him in awe as he spun around in the room with the angel of destruction, the man he already knew would threaten his already tenuous relationship. Beautiful sea fauna of all types and shapes and colors swam in the air above them, giving the room the look of the most exquisite aquarium, the two waltzing together on its sea floor.
“Indoor Fish,” Chrollo informed him, his gray eyes still posed on the man with a charisma, as intense but wildly different from that Illumi Zoldyck possessed the day they first met.
Illumi. His Lumi would be hurt.
But regardless they continued to dance, Chrollo’s left hand interlaced with his, and his right pressing on the small of his back into him.
“Do you belong to anyone?” Chrollo whispered as they continued to wade the room with the indoor fish.
And Tonpa lied. “No.”
Was it really a lie?
Chrollo’s lips pressed to his once, a soft peck, before whispering,
“Good. I wouldn’t have cared regardless.”
In seconds, Chrollo seemed to transform from the kind, gentle angel to the devil himself, his Indoor Fish swarming as though in tune with the fiery lust inside. And then the two of them hastily undressed, Tonpa pulling off Chrollo’s jacket, then shirt, then pants, stopping only for a moment to stare at the meal before him, before he bent over to take Chrollo’s erect cock in his mouth.
He’d done this so many times for Illumi but with Chrollo, this act was different. His touch was tender and he didn’t move with the inconsiderate haste Illumi did at times; even his taste was different. Maybe it was the effect of the promise of a new beginning but Chrollo seemed to appear like a saving grace. His comparatively warm, slender fingers running through his hair as Tonpa bobbed up and down reassured him so.
When Tonpa rose, Chrollo slowly backed him against the wide window displaying the skyline but rather than forcing him facefirst as Illumi had, he slowly entered him, facing him the entire time, his lips nipping softly on his neck.
“I’ll take care of you like no one else has,” Chrollo promised.
What a promise to give someone you’ve just met, Tonpa thought. But at least for now, as he felt their bodies pressed together. He decided to believe it.

How I Letterboxd #1: Lise
In this first instalment of a new feature, long-time member Lise, of Canada, answers our questions about how she uses Letterboxd, and why you should join her March Around the World challenge.
Hi Lise! How long have you been on Letterboxd? Lise: TV was still in black and white.
What do you mainly use Letterboxd for? Just a diary? Long reviews or shorter takes? Hilarious lists, or very f—king serious director rankings don’t @ me? I use the whole shebang: diary, reviews, ratings, watchlist, comments and lists, lots of lists. But mostly I use Letterboxd to keep track of when Jonathan is out to lunch (shameless plug for my He Says She Says list).
Do you rate films? Absolutely. I rely on ratings to add stuff to my watchlist, and I rate to let others know if I liked the film. I don’t read reviews for films I haven’t seen, so without user ratings I’d be snookered.
Tell us about your March Around The World challenge, in which Letterboxd members sign up to watch and review 30 films from 30 different countries during the month of March. How did it come about, and what’s involved? I took over the challenge from Berken, who created it and hosted it for the first year. I thought it was a brilliant way to explore the world on the cheap. The review component is important because it expands Letterboxd’s database, especially for under-seen films. It’s been a great success. Many participants like to create lists, and if they can’t watch them all in March they go at it for the rest of the year, which is great. The most important rule about the challenge is to forget the rules and watch international films during the month.
Tumblr media
Still from Djibril Diop Mambéty’s ‘Touki Bouki’ (1973).
What are some of the interesting statistics you’ve noticed from your Marches Around the World? I consolidated all of the spreadsheets I’ve created for each challenge, and there were some surprises. The most viewed film is Touki-Bouki from Senegal (average rating of 3.7). Less surprising is that our most-viewed director is Ingmar Bergman (although I was happy to see Aki Kaurismäki from Finland in second place). The most-viewed countries are France, Japan and South Korea. Another surprise, the best decade is the 1920s (with the 1950s in a close second).
How has March Around the World enhanced your life? I’m not the sentimental type but when we get a new participant in the challenge I get the warm and fuzzies. If the genie were out of the bottle I would request that all overcome the ‘one-inch barrier’ (subtitles). Watching films ‘from away’, as our East Coasters would say, is one of the simplest ways to combat fears and/or prejudices about other peoples/nations/ways of life that we often don’t realize we have. Every time we identify or root for someone who is ‘other’ it chips away at the walls, and as Maya Angelou has said so eloquently, we discover that “We are more alike, my friends, than we are unalike”.
What are the responsibilities involved in hosting a Letterboxd challenge? It doesn’t have to be complicated. A challenge can be as simple as “watch ten films from your watchlist this month”. It’s all about tags. Define a tag, have people add it to their films and their lists, and then you can easily search for and filter those tags. Easy peasy. Mine is a bit more challenging because it has so many requirements, but thanks to some fantastic Letterboxders who volunteer to help with my spreadsheet (you know who you are), it all gets done in a timely manner.
How do you find the time to watch all those films in a single month?! Jonathan and I have never completed the challenge! Our best year was around 26. That year we got up earlier in the morning and watched the films with coffee, before going to work. That was the best. Nice and fresh and open to anything. Bonus is that we got to think about the film all day and the review-writing in the evening was easier. If it were up to me that’s the way I would watch films all the time.
What other challenges have you taken part in, and how have they enhanced your experience of watching films? Back in the day everyone was making a list tagged with List of Shame that you filled with all those “You seriously haven’t seen that yet?!” films. I’m still chipping away at it, but of course for every film you watch there are ten more you have to see. To help with the List of Shame I participated in Mr Dulac’s 5×5 series, where you selected five films from five directors and watched them at your leisure. It was a great way to complete filmographies. I still go to that list when selecting a film to watch.
Tumblr media
Wong Kar-Wai’s ‘In The Mood for Love’ (2000).
What are your four favorites on your Letterboxd profile, and why? In the Mood for Love, because forbidden love is the saddest thing ever, and I could watch Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung go up and down those noodle-shop stairs all day long. The Thin Red Line, because it provides a great sense of place and it’s about the soldiers, not the war. Whispering Star because it is so quiet and touching.
I keep my fourth slot open for a rotating new favorite film that I want everyone to see. I could change these for a different set, but, oh, who am I kidding. I always feel terrible at the thought of ‘demoting’ a film.
What is your favorite or most useful feature? The watchlist, filtered by service. It is my dream-come-true feature. I sort by genre, hide short films, select ‘Stream only’ and ta-da! A list of films I’ve been meaning to see that are available to stream. (Now if only I could do the same for films that I own!) [Editor’s note: filtering by your own personal set of streaming services is a Pro feature.]
What’s a movie you’ve done a 180 on because of other Letterboxd members’ opinions? Great question. Memories of Murder is one of them for sure. I couldn’t figure out what the big deal was when I first saw it, but so many of my friends gave it five stars that I watched it again and understood. And just this week, Moaning_Slug posted an interesting comment on my review of Buñuel’s Viridiana that actually makes me want to take another look.
What’s a movie you’ve really had to dig in on your feelings about, despite what everyone else on Letterboxd thinks? I am not easily bothered by or influenced by others when it comes to the films I love or despise. I seriously disliked Her and Boyhood and pretty much anything by Wes Anderson and all the high ratings have zero effect on me. The technical prowess of a film would never be something that could change my mind (here’s looking at you John Wick: Chapter 2 and 3). What would make me take a second look is if someone were able to point out that I missed something about what the film was saying. I’ve yet to review Jojo Rabbit because while I think poking fun at someone who aspires to dictatorship might actually prevent it from happening, I don’t know what to make of it when it’s making light of a historical or current [aspiring dictator]. Reading reviews about this could definitely influence my take on the film.
Tumblr media
Colin Firth in ‘Pride and Prejudice’ (1995).
What’s your go-to comfort movie? The one with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy, the one with Chris Pratt and the talking ‘rat’, and the one with Tony Leung as badge No. 663 starring the Mamas and the Papas.
If and when you go to the cinema, where do you prefer to sit? Behind the shortest person in the room, near the back (I hate looking up—it’s a neck thing).
You’re Canadian. What’s the best Canadian film of all time? South of Wawa, about a donut-shop waitress who receives tickets to a Dan Hill concert in Toronto for her 35th birthday. Okay, so it’s not the “greatest film of all time” but it is my favorite, and it’s got the best last line ever!
These are the Canadian films I’ve seen in order of preference, this is a substantial list of Quebec films and [Letterboxd member] puffin has an extensive Canadian films list (stops at 2018). And I must mention these NFB short classics: The Cat Came Back, The Sweater and one of the most beautifully animated shorts, The Man Who Planted Trees.
When Parasite won Best Picture, what was the reaction in your household? We tested the bounce on our floor boards at Best Director. We tested the bounce on the ceiling boards at Best Picture.
Please recommend three other Letterboxd members we should follow. I can’t count, so here goes. I think everyone should follow Punq for the sheer number of films he watches and reviews, but mostly because I don’t think there is a film made before the 60s that he hasn’t seen. Graham Williamson is a good bet as well. His tastes are eclectic and his reviews are always packed with good observations and information. And I also have to recommend fellow Canuck puffin. I don’t know how he manages to watch so many films and review them. I always enjoy reading Melissa Tamminga, who asks questions and is very thoughtful in her reviews, and I have a soft spot for Peter H, who again personalizes his reviews. Nepotism be damned, Jonathan White always writes honest, interesting and personal reviews.
You also round up Letterboxd members who attend TIFF each year—what’s been a good thing about meeting Letterboxd people in real life? It’s great! Without naming names, I discovered that I could drink a 6'2" Norwegian under the table; a particular New Yorker is so stingy with his ratings that when he gives anything beyond three and a half stars you just have to watch the film; and a New Zealander personally knows anyone who is anyone in the industry over there and can give you all the dirt! Whenever we consider not doing TIFF we are always reminded that it would involve missing our Wednesday meet-up (as well as most other nights where we undoubtedly meet up for beer and film-related arguments), and we easily change our minds.
P.S. In the spirit of connecting Letterboxders… before the TIFF list I thought it would be good idea to create a ‘Letterboxd in [insert City]’ list, Toronto being the first one. It took off, and many users from different parts of the world created lists for their cities; the tag is letterboxdcity.
The March Around the World challenge starts 1 March 2020. Tag your list with ‘30 countries 2020’ and it’ll be added here.

Smith Tower Penthouse in Seattle
May 26, 2021
Smith Tower Penthouse
Design: Graham Baba Architects
Location: Seattle, Washington State, USA
Built in 1914, the Smith Tower was the tallest structure west of the Mississippi upon its completion. No expense was spared in the construction of this ambitious 462-foot-tall building, with interiors finished in rich materials and ornate detailing.
Today, this iconic figure in the Seattle skyline houses offices and commercial spaces topped by an observation deck on the 35th floor, and above that a one-of-a-kind two-story penthouse apartment tucked into the pyramid-shaped peak.
Originally housing the building’s water tank and converted into a makeshift apartment in the 70s, this latest conversion updates the space into a luxurious penthouse.
The design opens up the floor plan so all spaces within the uniquely shaped volume can flow together. A large pivot door provides separation for the bedroom suite, as desired.
A rich yet simple material palette consists of stained oak wall panels, blackened steel guardrails and light switch towers, and warm grey quartz counters and tile. Flooring throughout was upgraded to stained engineered oak planks, with a moat of polished black pebbles filling in the irregular space between the new floor and the undulating perimeter of the existing structure.
All new design elements—including wall panels, shower glass, and railings—are modular for ease of installation. Exposed exterior concrete walls and ceilings were painted white to reflect light and stand in contrast to the rich finishes of the new interior walls.
LED strip lighting along the perimeter of the space provide a wash of soft light along the canted walls. Small, triangular-shaped windows punctuate the perimeter walls of both floors, granting 360-degree views of the Olympics, Elliott Bay, and the city of Seattle.
The bedroom suite occupies the L-shaped perimeter of the entry floor. A central core of oak casework houses closet space and an upgraded bathroom, including a water closet with frosted glass doors, an oak vanity, and a walk-in shower. Window seats, set within window openings, were upgraded, and fitted with access to additional storage and mechanical systems.
The pyramidal second floor houses the primary living functions, a combination kitchen-dining-living area, topped by stairs and a catwalk to the lantern room, which features a glass and steel ball at the very top of the building.
The team replaced the entire kitchen with two low counters that include undercounter refrigerator and freezer drawers, upgraded appliances, and bar seating for social gathering. The low profile and bright finishes complement the space without distracting from the overall volume. A custom-designed and -fabricated luminary by Electric Coffin is suspended in the center of the space.

BeautyRx Founder Offers Up Sunny Manhattan Setting For $4 Million
Owners Dr. Neal Schultz and Amy Schwartz used inspiration from their views of the East River and … [+] Manhattan skyline when decorating their Upper East Side apartment.
Warburg Realty
When it came to decorating their home on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Amy Schultz and her husband, noted dermatologist and BeautyRx founder Dr. Neal Schultz, found inspiration in a familiar setting: picturesque views of the East River.
“Overlooking the East River provides a sense of peace that is very rare for a New York City apartment, and we chose to decorate it using colors similar and related to the water,” Amy Schultz said.
Tumblr media
The apartment at 52 East End Avenue in Yorkville features twin balconies overlooking the East River.
Warburg Realty
It doesn’t hurt that the Yorkville apartment, now for sale at $3.995 million, is in a prime position for enjoying the sights. Located at 52 East End Avenue, the 35th-floor apartment features wall-to-wall windows that frame spectacular river and skyline views. Two private balconies also take in season-changing sights extending as far as the eyes can see.
Tumblr media
Gold design details, including an eye-catching backsplash, highlight the home’s impressive chef’s … [+] kitchen.
Warburg Realty
“The sunlight floods the apartment from sunrise to sunset, and then, at dusk, the city “light show veins,” continuing an incredible visual experience,” said Dr. Neal Schultz, who has been featured in such publications as Shape, Elle, GQ and Allure and hosts the YouTube channel DermTV. “And yet, it’s a different experience every single day and night.”
Tumblr media
The Yorkville apartment has more than 2,600 square feet of living space.
Warburg Realty
The more than 2,600-square-foot apartment has a sunny and cheerful disposition driven by an expressive use of color and texture, according to Dr. Schultz. The centerfold-worthy residence is embellished in gold accents and has light hardwood floors and white walls that keep the atmosphere warm and bright.
Tumblr media
Gold chandeliers draw the yes upward in the formal dining room.
Warburg Realty
In the living room, expanses of glass converge at a centerpiece fireplace decorated in glittering tile. A gleaming chef’s kitchen sits off the space and has gold hardware and a matching backsplash that pops against the custom white-hued cabinetry. A formal dining room with its own skyline is adjacent to the kitchen.
Tumblr media
Wall-to-wall windows take in skyline views in nearly every room of the apartment.
Warburg Realty
The apartment has four en-suite bedrooms including an enhanced primary bedroom with a dressing area and a spa-like bathroom. Custom California Closets are prevalent throughout the home, as are Nest thermostats and window shades. Phillip Jeffries wallcoverings provide another textured element.
Tumblr media
The primary suite features an enhanced bathroom and an expansive closet.
Warburg Realty
Located a block from the East River and near Carl Schurz Park, the full-service boutique building provides residents with 24-hour door staff, a concierge and a fitness center. But the real prize may be its proximity to the Upper East Side and Midtown.
“It’s location is great—I never have to gamble on whether or note to take the FDR, or whether there are parking available at Costco,” Dr. Schultz said.
Tumblr media
Phillip Jeffries wallcoverings provide another textured element to the Yorkville residence.
Warburg Realty
The apartment is listed for sale by Annie Cion Gruenberger and Rebecca Blacker of Warburg Realty, an exclusive member of Forbes Global Properties.
