faye deserves scars and wrinkles just like kratos methinks. also shes taller than him

watched Hereditary! was very into it until the last 10 minutes or so which i thought ruined it entirely, lmao. i respect it, i get what he was going for, i just don't like it

there's a bit in a high-school english class where they're talking about greek tragedies (as is tradition lol) and the teacher asks the class "is it more tragic if he had a choice in averting his fate or if he was always a doomed pawn from the start?" and one of the students responds "it's worse if he was doomed from the start" and i just hard disagree with that as a storytelling philosophy

i'm down for doomed relationships, doomed cycles of abuse, etc, "there was no path forward that lead to a happy ending" can be tragic and interesting. but the whole movie has the vibe that not a single one of the characters has an ounce of agency, which tends to make me check out. hell i think it significantly lessens the impact of the inciting incident- which is a shame because that whole sequence was excellent, i felt it viscerally until i literally shivered

the craftsmanship is really excellent and the family scenes were incredible works of art at getting you to Feel Things in a very raw way. it accomplished that even better than Midsommar- but i liked Midsommar's ending a lot better, so it's maybe a wash

...also i'm very uncomfortable with how they portrayed the little girl with mental disabilities (that are actually symptoms of her being Demonic) by casting an actress with facial deformities that aren't associated with mental disabilities. there are several shots of her doing something sociopathic and then really zooming in on her nose. i feel like they knew that casting someone with down's etc was obviously in poor taste, but this isn't like, better? just more disguised?

Chisa's actually much younger than you think, she was in the 74th class which only separates her by 3 years from the DR2s. (But then there's power imbalance issues which is why any ship between her and a DR2 is a no). I always headcanoned Miaya to be from the 76th to give her a year where she and Chihiro could both be attending the school at once. This has been my random splurge about ages

Don't worry, I know! I've complained several times about Chisa being only 3 years older than her students. Weirdest decision in all of DR3. Why did they do that. How long did the writers think it takes to become a teacher. This is my white whale. Obviously it's complicated to ship her with the students, but she's like, 20 years younger than the hot moms. Miaya and the pregame V3 kids are such a rare boon for shipping Chisa potentially within her age group!
