So I'm listing like, a lot of things here. I don't have a WIP folder, my partner (who is also my writing parter @zaebeecee hey babe) and I have a folder TREE based on franchise, including our original work. If you want to see what that looks like I will show you, but oh man it's..... a lot. Almost literal years of writing together is compiled here. I keep seeing posts that Hannibal is queerbait (not necessarily on Tumblr but it's really prevalent on Twitter and tiktok) so I'm going to break down how it is NOT queerbait under 'keep reading' (long ass rant ahead)

I'm going to use Supernatural and Sherlock as an example because they are both pretty infamous for queerbaiting, but this isn't to make fun of those shows altogether.

In both Supernatural and Sherlock, the main 'ships' are between Sherlock Holmes / John Watson and Castiel / Dean Winchester. In their respective shows, there is almost nothing stopping them from getting together. In both cases, they are friends, have good chemistry, spend a frequent amount of time together, and do not have any significant others. The only thing stopping them from being in a relationship is that one or both of them are presumably straight or are simply not in love with each other.

In Hannibal, however, one is an FBI agent, and the other is a serial killer. There is an in-show reason that would stop (especially Will Graham) from wanting to be in a relationship with the other despite personal feelings. Even in earlier seasons, when Will Graham did not know Hannibal was a serial killer, Hannibal was still his therapist.

Next, what makes the queerbait stand out especially in Sherlock and Supernatural, is that every time anything is suggested between the two popular ships, it is often played off as a joke.

Think of the scene in Sherlock where John fumbles asking Sherlock if he has a boyfriend. The scene where Sherlock is about to kiss Moriarty is presented as a flashback by a crazy fan (making fun of the viewer for thinking Sherlock could be in a male/male relationship)

In Supernatural, there is a scene where castiel is alluded to being teleported naked on top of Dean's car, dialog such as "Get out of my ass" "I was never in your..." and an awkward pause. These are all one-off jokes, scenes, etc. Meant to allude to queerness without having to actually commit to it.

In Hannibal, however, no scene that alludes to queerness is played as a joke. Hannibal is genuine when he says he cares for Will, when he is worried the other man has died, the constant touches, and where he compares their relationship to Achilles and Patroclus. (Do I even have to mention the "Is Hannibal... In love with me?" Scene?)

"But Hannibal and Will never kissed / never had a relationship!"

Okay, it's fair to be upset that the pair never kissed or had a full relationship established, but you have to remember Hannibal was canceled. Sherlock and Supernatural both came to their conclusions naturally and decided to continue never establishing a proper relationship between their queerbaited characters.

(I'm not counting that scene where castiel says "I love you" to Dean and gets sent to Super Hell as a relationship. You could argue that this makes Castiel explicitly queer and therefore not queerbait, but it still feels more like executives doing the same thing as the joke part of this argument; not wanting to commit to making him queer and throwing in a one-off line. Plus, this does not excuse baiting Dean as queer and baiting the relationship between Dean and Castiel as more than friendship)

However, Hannibal never got to reach its natural conclusion. More seasons were planned, in which the creator of the show explicitly stated he wanted to explore the relationship between Hannibal and Will more in those seasons before being canceled. Being upset that they never kissed / had a relationship does NOT mean the show was queerbait.

I made the mistake of rewatching Sherlock because I never did finish it back in the day (I was -clenches fist- seething over the queerbaiting and rage quit after not fully watching episode 1 of s4) and I'm here to make my side hyperfixation (what year is this??? Who am I???) Tumblr's problem. The more I sit with s4, the less I like it 😂 There were pieces and elements I liked, but overall, it left a bad taste in my mouth. Forgive me if any or all if these points have been talked to death, I missed all the discourse and I'm hella late, but I need to flail and send my thoughts into the void because what even WAS that season? I can't believe I avoided it for years, got drawn in by a couple of tiktoks making fun (affectionately) of superwholock Era and That Scene about the fucking phone charger port, binged all of it, only to be left with..... that. Not nearly as disappointing or rage inducing as spn's ending but by God, did it leave a hole in me. So please ignore my rambling thoughts as I slap them down here for my own sanity.

• First and foremost, what - and I can't stress this enough - the fuck was UP with the assassination of John's entire character???? What was that??? Why????

• Related to that point - I can appreciate the angst point and potential it provides, as I'm reading many, many fics, but AYO WHY didn't anyone rip John an entire new one for that beat down he did on Sherlock????? Hello???? 911?????

• Tell me why everything felt so stilted and borderline icy. Like I get the high emotions and shit, but after a certain point... 😭 was there a falling out between Benedict and Martin that I'm not aware of? Did they just try to ungay everything so hard and were so pissed at the audience picking up everything THAT THEY PUT???? into this show and their interactions that they just hit the brakes hard enough to make everything feel weird???

• A lot of it felt weird. Off kilter a little. Forced in some places, toned down in others (and toned down where it shouldn't have been), a nod to ships but weirdly/hatefully??? Idk if that makes sense. Like the whole Sherlock and Molly phone call (I do not mean any hate to this ship, I really hope it doesn't come off this way. Not my cup of tea but you are valid). Why was Molly so upset BEFORE the call? Did I miss something? Also I don't personally think or feel she'd still have those feelings for him??? I??? I am bamboozled.

• to that whole point, Eurus was.... Hmm. Mmmm. She was. Something. (Confused derogatory)

• I like Mary as a character. I also hated her. (Definitely biased by my shipper trash ass self for johnlock, I'm sorry). Wtf were those messages, please. Edit: AND ANOTHER THING. John's reaction to Sherlock's death - awful, gut wrenching, beautiful, my heart breaks with and for him, utterly devasting. John's reaction to Mary's death - had me sitting there like🧍‍♀️(it was weird. so weird. awkward. w h y. (we know why, but also the acting choices were Something TM, in both cases! for different reasons!) i'm sorry i just can't get past my anger and put off-ness with mary, fun as she could be)

• why did mycroft and John switch roles 😭 pls. The last episode was just. So Much. The lackluster responses from John, to John, to Sherlock, between them, like.... hello???? Who are these people?? Help me. Moriarty saved me for a brief shining moment tho, God bless.

There's more I could spew, but that's what's sitting right at the top of my head. I guess all this just to say, if a show runner/writer really just fucking hates the audience they got (instead of the one they wanted), they probably shouldn't have fucking become a show runner/writer in the first place. Either hand it to someone who can actually handle it and listens, or fuck off. I will never understand when shows and plots and characters gets kamikaze'd because of a show runner being pissy and egotistical. Like ????? Grow up. Learn from Bryan Fuller and Hannibal or something.

It’s a reference to my favourite Beatles album+song (Revolver and Happiness Is A Warm Gun). Warm gun was the first Beatles song that I fell in love with and Revolver was the first album I ever listened to. Thought it was quite clever to replace the word ‘gun’ with ‘revolver’ teehee

Hey! Curious if you're currently into any great shows. If so, mind sharing your recommendations? Always on the lookout for some good TV suggestions!

I imagine you've seen everything I have. I spend more time gaming. Not into anything great at the moment, but I can dig deep and see if I can remember what shows I've watched since Hannibal aired and give my opinions. I binge TV series with my mom who is in her 80's and has Parkinson's and macular degeneration and can't really do activities or read anymore, so I rewatched some old ones with her here largely to torture her with them, so they'll be in here also.

S-Tier (Winners)

My Brilliant Friend. Probably the best thing I've watched since Hannibal. If S4 is out I haven't seen it yet, no spoilers.

Better Call Saul. Possibly tied with My Beautiful Friend. Better than Breaking Bad. Much better ending. So good, no complaints. Nailed the ending. Did I mention the ending?

A-Tier (Runners-up)

Black Sails: God, there were some parts of this that were so gratuitous and tedious, especially early on, and I hated Eleanor Guthrie and not in the kind of way that means good things for a show. Some of the dialogue was just really on the nose too. This sounds like a lot of complaints, but the things it did well, it did SO WELL that it really does make up for the negatives. The acting was sooooo good and the Flint and Silver dynamic was AMAZING and the show looked great, and over all that, it really had something thoughtful to say, and that stays with you when it's over.

Stranger Things: Some parts of this show hit better than others, but I'm squarely in the bullseye of the target audience and get the vast majority of the references and nostalgia, and I love David Harbour. I appreciate their exploration of various types of horror, attempting a new style each season, and I like the charm and humor and cheese, and it's a show that knows its voice and its tone and commits fully to those things. It's trying to be a fun show and it is, and it wants to deal with real fears and real grief, and it does.

The Handmaid's Tale: Speaking of shows that are committed to their tone, this one definitely is that. It's too heavy and relentless for most people, I think, but I don't mind that at all. Parts of it do drag, but it has a lot of the same qualities (for good or bad) as Black Sails: great acting, powerful character dynamics, the things that it does well it does so well it makes up for the shortcomings, imo.

Breaking Bad: Famous show, not much to say here. Rewatched it recently and don't think it's as good as Better Call Saul, so I put it here.

B-Tier (Can't complain but will anyway)

Good Omens: Can't get into it, can't find anything particularly wrong with it. I'm into the ship. I guffaw out loud while watching it yet am thoroughly bored most of the time. Love Michael Sheen and David Tennant on screen together. I know the show can't be that all the time but I wish it was. Aziraphale ftw. I feel like people missed the point of the ending of the last season.

Mad Men: Show could give Seinfeld a run for its money in terms of being about nothing, but definitely had its charm. Watched it with my mom so her nostalgia and appreciation for how historically authentic it felt went a long way. Good performances. God, it could be boring sometimes though.

Vikings: This one was a lot like Black Sails for me. They had a bit of a struggle for a season or two but once going, they really got going. Many great acting performances and characters. Loved Ecbert and Ivar especially. Didn't have Toby Stephens and Luke Arnold, so you know...can't quite make that tier. And didn't have as much to say, or didn't say it as well, and it doesn't stay with you.

C-Tier (Can complain and will, but were good enough to stick with)

Trying to organize my ask notebook better since I've run out of space under general fandom asks and I would like to know what fandoms you are in so I can ask the correct people about the correct fandoms.

I think my main ones are Bagginshield/The Hobbit, Sherlock/Johnlock, Dragon Age Inquisition, {Pippin/Faramir Merry/Eowyn}/The Lord of the Rings and I dip my toes in a few that I currently can't remember but ones I don't engage in canon at all are Good Omens but only for Crowley/Azirapheal ship, Stranger Things but only for Steve/Eddie ship, The Witcher but only for Geralt/Jaskier things and Ladybug and Cat Noir but only for Adrinette .

Also do you like getting asks that are or include story ideas or snippets?

Hey there!

One of the big fandoms for me is the Batfamily, but I also really love the Flash and DC in general. Marvel as well though I tend to prefer DC nowadays. I enjoy the Hobbit and Lotr, but also The old guard, the Witcher (though I have yet to read the books and have only recently started playing the game, I stopped watching the show after 3 episodes, but I know what's going on). I love BBC's Merlin, StarTrek, Hannibal,...

I'm also really into animated shows and movies, my favorite anime is probably Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood, but I also watched Inuyasha, Ouran High School Host Club and Fairytail when I was younger (believe me there is a looooot more, but this post is already so long). Ghibli Movies are pure comfort.

Bookwise I've been in love with Lockwood & Co since it came out and it's one of those stories I just love to reread. Rick Riordans books practical raised me. I love classics like Pride and Prejudice or Treasure Island (Disneys Treasure Planet is so good), and I am not normal about Bram Stokers Dracula. SciFi is also good, my favorite is The Illuminae Files (great book, great presentation, absolute pleasure to read).

And well since I am studying ancient history, can't leave it out: Mythology. Especially Greek and Egyptian mythology but I love myths in general. Or ancient texts.

My favorite manga is actually a history manga with time travel and romance thrown in. Red River by Chie Shinohara has been my obsession since I've been twelve. To this day I am not over my favourite characters death. But it is historically accurate so I guess that's that.

Videogame wise I really enjoy stuff like Assassins Creed, Hades from Supergiant, Devil may Cry V, Phoenix rising, Zelda Breath of the Wild. Detroit Become Human is my favourite to this day.

1. Our Flag Means Death: Brought me back to tumblr and has healed so so many queerbaiting scars, you people have no idea. I've made so many cool friends here and it might also be the first fandom with a large poc audience which feels nice cause I don't have to be one out of five people pointing problematic stuff out, I can literally just sit back and read people who are better with words and cheer them on. This might not feel that big a deal lmaoo but it so is.

2. BBC Sherlock: mentioning this show gives me such intense anxiety and pain tbh but it was my first major fandom and while the show went to shit and I didn't see tumblr for almost 5 years cause was so heartbroken, I did have a lot of fun, fell in love, and it did kinda change my life in so many ways, so I guess it'll stay a big part of my identity sadly unfortunately gods *clenches fists* I hate that sm

3. Granada Sherlock Holmes: I rewatch this show every now and then, to me Brett's Holmes remains THE Holmes to this day, no one did it like him tbh.

4. Good Omens: I'm definitely more of a book fan for this than the show fan, but the show is pretty fucking great and stands on its own feet. I also think both Az and Crowley were cast so well, which makes it all the more better.

5. Doctor Who: Love 9 and 10, but 11 would always be my doctor because I started watching the show when he was around and I love him ✌️ kinda need to catch up with the latest seasons though

6. Interview with the Vampire: Never read the books and vampires really aren't my thing but oh god this show, just everything about it, I am yet to find anything I hate about it ngl it is done so well and so beautifully and one of the few shows where I actually like both the leads equally (lestat too he's such a messed up freak I love him)

7. Hannibal: I got into the show cause I watched the first episode as it aired with a friend here, and it was just going to be a laugh but then I got so hooked, and it's definitely one of the prettiest shows lmaoo and it's so incredibly fucked up in a way that it makes sense to my brain

8. Dark: A start to finish trippy ride and I loved every second of it. I've got a thing for time travel stuff in the sense that I do watch and read every single time travel related media I can get my hands on, and this one is still right on top of my list.

Btw, I'm a furry, here's my fursona !

Her name is Nethal. She's a hyena (how surprising) with horns. I designed alternative designs of her for fun + it allows me to be more creative with different universes. He main secondary design is a hyena/dragon hybrid, which i feel represent myself even more. I'll keep her hyena design for stories. I then made two other versions : a robot version with hooves (I say it's a hyena/ram hybrid, but she doesn't have ram horns, tho ram is a pun with RAM), as well as a vulture hybrid, whom I refer to as a harpy (who actually has ram horns lmao).
