anyway, immortal au: everyone became immortal a different way, and after a while everyone knows each other. sort of like being the weirdos somewhere. it doesn’t matter if you don’t vibe that much, but you gotta get along because everyone knows everyone. i accidentally made it too long, so it’s below the cut. in my defense, it’s fun.

phil did die, met death and then she was like “actually. actually.” so anyway he came back to life + a wife

wilbur has phases. like a plant in winter, but it’s death to life to undeath. sometimes he’s a ghost, sometimes he’s not.

tommy keeps getting reborn and he remembers as a 7 year old just so he can reexperience puberty over and over (he is incredibly bitter over this)

techno just. doesn’t die. (if he did he’d figure out he’s a god. but he doesn’t and he won’t, unless someone else interferes. also nobody who could figure it out plans on telling him. some think it’s compassion, some think it’s cruel. most just think it’s funny. living long enough can really fuck with your sense of humor.)

tubbo has a “super healing” type of immortality; the drawback is that for every wound healed there are new nerves, thus literally nothing ever gets less painful. everything is pain. however he’s decided that actually showing it is lame and can’t afford to be lamer than tommy, who is occasionally a literal child, thus he doesn’t tend to show it as much in public.

ranboo’s parent(s?) had a fun, wild night back in the day. nobody’s quite sure what the fuck he is, but he’s not budging. his parents still get gift baskets occasionally, though they refuse to disclose any information, and the note is just a lipstick kiss.

sapnap and bad are both demons, however they’re entirely different types, and bringing up the fact that they’re, theoretically, the same thing, sort of, will only devolve into a week-long argument. the etymology of demons is a wildly contradictory and controversial field, which of course means that there is an ever-increasing amount of “experts” on the subject, most of whom disagree and would stab one another given the opportunity. george did a seven-year course on it once but dropped out just before graduation, just for the sheer pettiness of it.

speaking of george, his immortality is of a muddled origin; he says he sold his soul to a god, but also that he can control dreams and life is a dream, so of course he’s immortal, but also that mushrooms are ageless and eternal and cannot be killed in a way that matters. so anyway nobody really wants to go too deep into that.

dream says he’s god, and there’s a god with his name and face going around, but that god claims he’s not dream but he copied dream’s face and name, but that also means that dream was there before the god was, but also nobody can quite agree when the first time anyone saw him was, but also there’s a very high possibility that there’s more than one of him just running around, but also george, sapnap, bad, callahan, punz, and ant all say they’ve known him the longest and all their stories contradict.

skeppy tied himself to bad. the diamond part came before. he acts like it’s normal, and in fact it’s everyone else who’s weird.

callahan claims he just woke up like that one day

punz says he took a contract and he’s not dying until it’s done (nobody knows if this means when he’s done with his task or if he means he’s not dying until he gets paid. knowing him, there’s a high chance it’s the second.)

ant just says that gods saw him being gay with his boyfriend and were so moved they made them immortal. the worst part is that it’s probably true, but it also means that he was just. a cat being really gay and then suddenly he was humanoid.

sam kept making android bodies and moving to them and now he’s too far in to stop.

ponk’s trees give him life, like a dryad, but also in that same “ah yes if you get too close to their tree you Will Get Consumed” way. look if she wants to do that stuff i won’t stop them. girlboss and all that yknow

foolish and eret- literally canon. they have beautiful lore and i love it and i am not changing it it’s literally already there and perfect lmao.

tina hasn’t explained anything. she just says cats can have as many lives as they want. ant backs her.

fundy calls his parentage “something so unholy death hadn’t seen coming” and claims that he’s still alive because there’s nowhere for him to go

hannah’s a fairy... of the “may i have your name?” type.

jack was a mortal who died and crawled out of hell. this continued for several decades before they just installed some stairs for the guy bc at this point you know might as well, he seems nice enough and he’s funny so they’re just giving him that. also yes he doesn’t go through kristen or anything, he just goes Straight to Hell. they’re thinking there’s been an administration error somewhere but it’s too much trouble to go change it now

niki killed a god.

puffy says “some treasure probably was never meant to be found. mine was though and it fucking rules.” then she did a triple backflip. everyone got distracted by that point also there was a lot of alcohol so it’s not like 100% clear

eryn just. Emerges, like a cukoo. usually near tommy’s newest reincarnation.

karl’s time froze around him

michael mcchill has an increasing amount of theories on how his immortality came to be as well- but he has a nagging suspicion that he poked his head in and found something that wasn’t meant to be found, something someone didn’t want him finding.

hbomb, in between podcast guests and games, managed to get some special patronage.

quackity made a high-stakes gamble once upon a time- and rigged it in his favour.

purpled’s an alien who doesn’t quite get what all this “mortal” stuff really means at first. what do you mean, you just grow old? you don’t stop it? just don’t. it’s that simple.

connor made a deal, a long time ago. relatedly, schlatt has a... talent, shall we say, for deals.

boomer’s also a fae, but once upon a time, that wasn’t so true. also his type and hannah’s are opposite.

Background: Awsamdude is one of the original founders of the land and a genius when it comes to redstone and buildings. Being part creeper apparently he possess various bodies across the world where he can transfer his consciousness to be (almost) in many places at the same time, one of these was repurposed as Sam Nook to assist Tommyinit in the build of his hotel. He helped to fight Schlatt during the Manberg war and sided with Tommy during the Manberg vs Pogtopia war. After building many farms, he started to take on his magnum opus is the (in)famous prison Pandora’s Vault commissioned by Dream. The new Vault keeper role created a new persona inside him called the Warden. As the Warden, he is very strict with rules and will do anything to make sure that the prisoners stay where they are meant to be and lawbreakers to be punished accordingly or worst (as he did with Ponk’s arm). When Dream was arrested after the disc war and locked him inside his own creation, Sam felt a strange sense of accomplishment but also felt a large burden on his shoulders. This proved very real when Dream killed Tommy in his cell while a lockdown was activated. After Tommy’s revival and release, the news reached Quackity and he decided to torture Dream to obatin informations about the revival book. Some time later, Technoblade was also imprisoned but managed to escape to his extreme shock. Sam immediately captured Ranboo and Michael to use them as bargain chips. Later, Technoblade spearhead the building and released all the prisoners: Dream, Ranboo and Connoreatpants. When the alarm sounded Sam informed Quackity and called Sapnap and Badboyhalo to help with the defenses to no avail. As the Vault fell so did the mind of the Warden as he rushed to threaten Ranboo to kill Micheal if he did not remove his armor; Then he threatened Dream that he would kill Ranboo if he did not surrender and return into the jail. The Green man escaped on a horse and Sam killed Ranboo. A furious Techno started to rampage across the area and the mob of people that were summoned to help in stopping him and wounded Sam many times before retreating. Destroyed, and feeling a failure on maintaining his only duty he locked the prison to be only locked back in by Techno, Eret and Tubbo as revenge. Then, if that wasn’t enough, Dream entered the jail and tortured him until he became totally submitted to him and he told him all the secrets of the jail followed by his first canon death. One day while he was thinking about his past mistakes, Sam could only grind his teeth in anger and despair… He was hated by many, his special role was broken and his magnum opus was in the hand of maniac… Then he started to hear voices: “So you wish to restore your previous role and become master of that jail of yours? Maybe also become a master of your own destiny? I can do it. All you have to do is…” he spoke words that were like liquid gold and the sweetest of nectar for him. Sam was at the bottom, he had nothing to lose, so he accepted. “Good, let me give you a proper start.” The world shifted, and his body as well. Then he found himself in a chamber with many semitransparent tanks and in each… himself. “Clones? My clones?” Sam wandered the vast labyrinthine structure made of stone, hard metal, claustrophobic corridors, shackles, powerful locks and many doors… he felt like at home. “A building fit for you... It can become yours if you wish so...” Sam reached a dark enormous door with all manners of locks and the tiniest of gap as window. “I am here. You can fill this place with all those you deem fit. The more you lock in, the more i become free… And when i do… I can grant your wish. ANY WISH.” Sam looked around, intoxicated with the power of the place he was in: “Let’s get started, shall we?”

Natasha Romanoff x Reader : Thin Line

Summary: You’re wild and free. She’s strict and trained. You and Natasha are polar opposites and it drives her crazy. Each move you make annoys her to no end. But, there’s a thin line between annoyance and adoration.

Rating: 18+ Violence, Mentions of Death, and Smut

Chapter 4

Natasha Romanoff is a cuddler. Yes the bad ass, red head, assassin likes to cuddle.

You didn’t know it at first, and honestly you didn’t think she’d want to do it, but you soon found out how wrong you were.

It took you by surprise. Both you and Natasha had packed your things up and loaded on to the Quinjet, since Fury was asking for you to come back. You had helped her check over everything and sweep the jet for any tampering, before settling into a seat in the back.

You, thinking Natasha was going to fly, dove into your thoughts. Which of course revolved around the enticing woman.

There was this feeling swarming through you. It nagged at you to figure out what’s going on between you and Natasha and you hated it. Just when things had started to get better, with her no longer hating you, your feelings begged to be acknowledged.

Why? Why couldn’t you just be satisfied with kissing her and whatever else comes with it? Why did you feel the need to define it?

It was with that thought that she chose to come over. After turning on autopilot, she eased into the seat beside you and pulled your arms around her, relaxing back into your body.

You were frozen for a good minute, until her lips pressed against your hand. The whole interaction gave you butterflies. Butterflies that you still feel along with a bit of anxiousness as F.R.I.D.A.Y tells you you’re a half hour away from the compound.

“Is there a reason your heart is beating so fast?” Natasha asks, voice barely above a whisper.

The breath you take in is shaky,“ I’m just uh- well- we’re not telling the team about any of this, right? Or do we like, need to disclose or something?”

“Y/N,” she shifts to face you but makes sure your hands stay on her,“ we don’t need to disclose anything. Just try not to freak out over any of this okay?”

A frown marks your face,“ so it is obvious I’m freaking out. I’m sorry about that, by the way, I’m sure the last thing you want is me over thinking whatever this is.”

“Why would that be the last thing I want?” She narrows her eyes at you.

Her question has you stumbling over simple words, mashing syllables together to form some type of coherent statement.

“If you don’t say something I can understand I’m going to be forced to use extreme measures.” She half teases.

You chuckle and shake your head.

“Now answer the question.”

“I just don’t want to make this awkward by asking what all this means or what we are. There’s no reason to rush and label it but my brain isn’t exactly on board with that idea.”

She pulls a smile, a small one, but still a smile,“ just relax. If we ever get to a point where the team needs to know, they’ll know. And I agree that we should take things slow. I’ve never done this before so I’d rather not-”

“I get it.” You smile back,“ consider this topic tabled until further notice.”

“Okay.”

“Still,” you turn her so she’s back in your arms and rest your chin on her shoulder,“ I know it’s gonna be hard for you when we get back. Keeping this from the team means you can’t be all over me like you love.”

Natasha is quick to look back at you as if you’d grown another head,“ me? You’re the problem.”

“Sure, whatever helps you-”

Not wanting to hear your cocky little remarks, Natasha kisses you, and then pulls away to go pilot the jet.

“That’s exactly what I mean, you find me irresistible.”

“Shut up Y/L/N.”

The second the jet lands you’re snatching up your bag and exiting.

Green eyes follow your every move and Natasha’s heart clenches.

Could you really not wait to get away from her? Had everything you’d done on the mission simply because Fury told you to play nice?

Only for your face to pop back around the corner,“ you coming pretty girl?”

Meanwhile, the guys wait anxiously in the common room. Having heard the jet land they prepare themselves for the bickering they’re about to hear, that or only one of you walking through that door(their money being on Natasha).

Except there isn’t any bickering when you and Natasha step out of the elevators, there isn’t even a frown. You’re smiling as you speak to the assassin and she’s maintaining her usual stoic expression.

“Uh, hey.” Clint says, grabbing your attention,“ how was the mission?”

Raising an eyebrow at Natasha, you chuckle, and turn to the guys,“ it was a success obviously, basically guaranteed when Fury assigned me.”

This earns a chuckle from the guys and agreeing cocky remarks from Tony and Sam.

Natasha rolls her eyes,“ you’re all incorrigible. Where’s Wanda?”

All the guys mumble a different answer which earns a skeptical gaze from Natasha.

“Yeah, way to sell it guys.” You pull a thumbs up with a sarcastic smile.

Before any of the guys can reply Wanda does.

“Natasha, you’re back.” She steps out of the kitchen.

“Ha I was right!” Sam exclaims.

You roll your eyes, instead focusing on the girls.

Natasha gestures to you,“ I doubt you two have met yet, Wanda this is Y/N our newest teammate, Y/N this is Wanda.”

Despite her being here all the time this was in fact the first time you’ve actually met Wanda. You’ve seen her around but neither of you have ever spoken. Mainly because she kept to herself but also because she was with Natasha a lot, the woman who previously disliked you.

However, you’re glad to meet her and you tell her that, which almost makes her smile.

“It’s nice to meet you too Y/N.” Wanda nods, her Sokovian accent lacing each word.

“So Wanda, how’re you getting on here? The guys drive you nuts while we were gone?” You make conversation as Natasha goes over to Clint after his not so subtle gestures.

The brunette shrugs,“ they’re not all intolerable.”

You follow the flicker of her gaze to Vision the very quiet and observant humanoid. Had she not looked at him you wouldn’t have even known he was here.

You smirk,“ you two talk often?” You make sure not to ask loudly so as to not alert anyone to the Sokovian’s possible crush.

Her eyes widen in the slightest as she looks at you, but she still answers,“ no. But we’re both busy so-”

“Yo Vision!” You call to him, and he wastes no time coming over.

“Agent Y/L/N, Miss Maximoff.” He nods to the both of you.

Wanda blushes at his presence alone, murmuring,“ I told you to call me Wanda.”

Smiling softly you place a hand on his shoulder,“ we were just talking about team movie night tonight and Wanda was saying how she could use some help preparing snacks and stuff but I’ll be busy in debrief, those guys are incompetent, which makes you the perfect candidate to aid the gorgeous Chef Maximoff.”

Vision’s attraction is instantly noticeable as the android stammers over his words, struggling to put together a proper sentence.

“So we’re all in agreement,” you put gentle hands on their shoulders and walk them to the kitchen,“ menu doesn’t matter just don’t forget popcorn. Perfect, Vision stick close to that one.” You wink at Wanda and leave quickly.

You step over to Clint and Natasha,“ hate to interrupt best friend time but Romanoff and I have a mission to wrap up. Don’t fret we’ll be available for movies in a couple hours.”

With that you gesture to Natasha to follow you.

It’s not until you’re both down the hall that she raises a brow at you,“ what, pray tell, needs to be finished with the mission? Also what was that with Wanda and Vision?”

“Questions, questions, questions.” You tease.

Taking you completely by surprise, she pushes you against the wall. Her hands trapped you in but she didn’t touch your body at all, still you feel the heat radiating off her.

You raise an eyebrow,“ now what did we say about self control?”

“Why is it that you don’t answer questions, Y/L/N?” Her eyebrow quirks as well.

“Why is it that you ask so many questions, Romanoff?”

Silence settles as you both stare into each others eyes. Her gaze is inquisitive, one that she holds a lot with you.

The gap between you two close without you even noticing. Natasha’s breath fans your lips and that alone makes you lean in to kiss her. She smirks, cocky that you’re the one not able to control yourself.

“I win.” She whispers.

You grab her shoulders, spurned on by her words, and switch positions. She can’t suppress the moan that leaves her lips when her back hits the wall, and she wraps her arms around your neck.

Hands grip her hips as you deepen the kiss with a bite to her bottom lip. And she gasps giving the perfect opportunity to slip your tongue into her mouth. That alone has her hands roaming your body feverishly and it just feeds your need for her. And it makes you feel oh so cocky.

Cocky enough to run your fingers under her shirt, hooking your fingers into the waistline of her pants to pull her closer. You place a trail of kisses from her lips to her neck.

“Y/N,” she breathes against the shell of your ear making you shiver and pull away just as she’s dying for it to continue.

She chases after your lips, nearly pushing off the wall to capture them again.

“Eager much?” You joke breathlessly.

Her hand grips your neck,“ I don’t like to be teased Y/L/N.”

“That’s just too bad Romanoff.”

You leave her there with a smirk on your face, feeling her gaze until you turn the corner.

To your surprise you don’t see Natasha again after that for a while.

After you left her in the hallway, desperate and aroused, you expected her to follow after you but she didn’t. So, you took your things to your room and put them away. It was nice to have a bit of a breather after everything that’s happened the past week.

You were able to shut your eyes for a half hour before you got too antsy to sit still. Which resulted in you going to the gym until your body was dripping sweat and your breathing was ragged.

It’s Steve who comes looking for you, informing you that Wanda and Vision are finished cooking and that everyone’s deciding on a movie.

“Alright, be there in a minute.” You nod to him, leaving the gym beside him, and heading to your room.

One shower and a clean set of clothes later, your stepping into the kitchen. You take a deep breath in, inhaling the delicious smell of the food Vision and Wanda made.

“Well damn, it smells great in here, you two are a dream team.” You compliment, eyes traveling over the blushing Witch and the bashful android, to land on an expressionless Red Head Assassin.

Vision speaks,“ thank you Agent Y/L/N, I thoroughly enjoyed cooking with Miss Maximoff.”

“I bet.” You nod, still looking at Natasha.

She was looking at you as well but unlike usual you can’t read her hidden expression.

“This movie is gonna start with our without you guys!” Tony calls.

Chuckling, you assist Vision, Wanda, and Natasha with bringing the food into the common room.

Apparently Tony’s movie suggestion, Hunger Games, won. You all know he chose it just to pick at Clint throughout the movie.

Seats fill up quickly and the remaining one is beside, lucky you, Natasha.

Giving her a smirk, plop into the seat beside her. As the movie starts, you discreetly snuggle closer to Natasha’s side, earning narrowed eyes from her.

You lean down to whisper in her ear,“ awe, don’t tell me you’re mad at me Pretty Girl.”

She runs her tongue along the inside of her jaw, thoughts running a mile a minute.

Of course she ins’t mad at you. Well, maybe a little. More than that, she’s so incredibly frustrated. You kissed her the way you did, put your hands on her skin setting her alight, and then you left her there.

She’s still frustrated, sitting next to you with her thighs clenched together searching for friction. She can’t say she did everything to get rid of the feeling because she really wanted you to take care of her needs, but she didn’t want to freak you out by moving too fast.

Especially after that moment in the jet.

Reading you was easy, sometimes, so she picked up on what was running through your head before you said anything.

Labeling it was something she thought about but let’s face it, that would be a bit much so soon. She’d just realized she likes you only to kiss you seconds after that. If anything she was freaking out over it moving too fast. She’s never felt like this before and to feel this way so fast, she’s sure she’s losing it.

You clearing your throat pulls her from her thoughts.

She hadn’t realized how long she’d left you waiting for her response.

“Uh, anyone want a refill?” You ask, standing and glancing around.

Getting no response, you nod, and go into the kitchen.

Natasha waits a beat before grabbing her cup and following after.

“Y/N-”

She watches you lean on the counter,“ I’m sorry if I overstepped earlier. I really should’ve controlled myself better. I don’t know, the way you reacted I thought you liked it but I sh-”

“Y/N stop, god stop. You didn’t overstep at all. If anything you under-stepped.”

Your eyebrows shoot up,“ huh?”

Natasha sets her cup down and rounds the counter to you. She grabs your hips and rests her forehead against your chest.

“I’m not and was not mad at you. Just so incredibly frustrated. The way you touched me, I-”

Just like that you were smirking again. With a quick irrational thought, you hoist her up on the counter and attach your lips to hers.

It’s as if the kiss from earlier had never stopped. Your hands are on each other adamantly, touching everything possible, except her hands linger on your arms and neck as that’s where your skin is exposed.

“You know,” you breathe against her neck,“ you could’ve just found me. I wouldn’t have hesitated to take care of you pretty girl.”

She moans at your words alone. Her legs are wrapped around your waist and in her attempt to squeeze her thighs together she ends up pulling you closer.

“Then take care of me.” She bites your ear.

And that makes you moan and kiss her again.

“Now this,” you two snap apart at the sound of Tony’s voice,“ does not look like your refilling drinks.”

Your eyes widen.

Natasha over comes her surprise quickly,“ Stark, you keep your mouth shut about this, understand.”

She leaves no room for argument and Tony chuckles.

“Don’t worry, I happen to like being the only person who knows things. Just don’t have sex on my counters yeah.” With that he walks out, leaving you alone again.

For a moment you two stay quiet, before you’re laughing and shaking your head.

“Well if that isn’t a sign I don’t know what is.”

She quirks an eyebrow at you,“ a sign that what?”

“That next time we should be in a more private area.”

Pink dusts her cheeks and she places a kiss on your lips,“ I’ll hold you to that.”

Maybe one day I'll draw them all again with these new headcanon designs but for now they just exist in my mindspace. Here they are:

Dream: A dreamon/void creature who's body has become more solid after being out of The End for so long.

Ranboo: Half enderman, half something else, but he was an experiment created by inhabitants in The End basically.

Techno: Cursed/Blessed Piglin

In the wake of canon Destiel, despite not having watched Supernatural for years, in the last week I have found myself going back through a few of my favourite Dean/Cas AUs, which have brought me comfort (and also a lot of tears) and for that reason, I feel like making a rec list.

That no one will probably pay attention to, but that’s not important.

C-S-T-L by komodobits LJ DCBB 2013. It’s been nineteen years since the beginning of the Last War, and the Alliance Army is losing land faster than it can supply good men to defend it. Their hope is the synthesis of Android Angeles, a series of humanoid machines designed without the capacity to feel, and thus enabling them to be the perfect super soldiers. In order to check their battle suitability, the first prototypes are sent down with a landing party of the men they will later replace, and Sergeant Dean Winchester is paired with Unit 5284-C-S-T-L for the assignment. Cas, as Dean nicknames him, is easy enough to work with - once you get past the emotional vacancy and blatant disregard for human life, that is - but as the squad's tour goes on, Dean gets to wondering whether the Android Angeles are really as unfeeling as he's been told, or if the fear of a reality in which malfunctioning prototypes will be shut down is too great for them to exist any other way.

About: Cherry from the movie Cherry 2000 was a limited edition gynoid, an android in humanoid form and owned by robotics developer Sam Treadwell. Cherry was his personal companion and was slavishly devoted to him.

{She was his wife in actuality though the programming was heavy on how she reacted to Sam’s companionship.}

In the year 2017, Cherry and Sam were making out on top of a wet kitchen surface, which caused Cherry's internal electronics to short circuit. Sam brought Cherry's inert form to a repairman who told Treadwell that his Cherry model was beyond repair so he took her memory chip and transplanted it into a surrogate body, Edith E. Johnson.

{A body Sam had to track down because he was so madly in love with the synthetic he felt he could not live without her...of course that changes as the move plays out. *sigh*}

AU List for Everyone on Mobile

Yandere Android Sibling JSE:

Jackie’s older brother Angus had disappeared when he was a teenager only to come back years later with his soul bound to a humanoid animatronic. But there’s a problem, Angus can only remember his precious nerdy baby brother that he always had to protect from bullies causing him to track down the now hero & steal him away from his superhuman life, hiding away with him in the facility he woke up in determined to protect his baby brother at all costs even if he had to burn humanity to the ground to do so. And boy was he surprised at what he learned from his little badger once he got him to start talking. Another baby brother to love & protect, a precious little gem he has yet to meet, of course he’s going to collect him too, what with his little badger being scared to leave their gem alone with no one there for him, such a good big brother his little badger was being. He was going to protect them both no matter what, Jackie & Jameson don’t have much of a choice.

Banshee Children JSE:

Henrik had a daughter named Anya who, unknown to him was murdered by his ex-wife after the girl finally stood up for herself against her mother’s & step-father’s abuse, had “disappeared” when she was 15. That was four years ago. Chase had two children, a boy & a girl born two years apart, named Hannah & Samuel who went “missing” around the time of Stacy’s “suicide” two years ago. Anya, Hannah, & Samuel by the time frame of this AU’s focus point are 19, 17, & 15 in that order & are all Banshees. And they all decided that they wanted the chance of a happy loving family that their mother’s cruelty had stolen from them, they always saw each other as siblings anyways. So they track down & steal away with Henrik & Chase to a house in the Banshee’s personal pocket dimension knowing that no human could hurt their family again here & that if the change of scenery is to jarring for their fathers & they try to find a way back to the mortal realm that the dimension’s other residents would scare them into returning home to them.

Healer’s Holding JSE & Yamimash:

For years Antisepticeye & Shadowmash both have been entwined in their love & their lives but something always felt like it was missing until they saw him, Dr.Henrik von Schneeplestein, their missing third. Now they’ll do whatever it takes to have him no matter who or what’s in their way. Henrik doesn’t have a choice.

Shadow’s Hold JSE & Yamimash:

She’s loved Anti since she took him under her inky wings but has let him be because no one else was going to be able to look after Anti’s adorable little human. But now that Seán has the Egos to look after him well, he doesn’t need Anti now does he. And Shadow is coming to take back what is her’s, Anti never had a choice.

Clan of the Eye JSE:

Anti had five children to five fathers, each father being a Septic Ego, who upon finding out about their children with the glitch demon proceed to go yandere for him & their children. After all they can’t lose such a wonderful rarity even for demons, & like hell are they risking losing any of their children again.

Bossatronian Fright JSE:

Bossatronian!Jackie is the last of his kind & he’s fighting against his own instincts to try & save the relationship he accidentally forged with Anti.

Septic Doll JSE:

Henrik, a black market doll maker, takes an interest in the hero Jackieboy Man through the news &, wanting for more money, plans to take the hero to turn him into a doll. Than he saw Jackie in person as his civilian identity, which he found out in his research of the hero, & fell head over heels when he was helped up after Jackie accidentally knocked him over. Now Henrik HAS to have Jackie as his personal doll. Jackie never had a choice.

Forever Seen JSE:

Septiceye Sam not only has a human form but has gone sibling yandere for the septic egos & Anti’s the only one okay with it cause he’s used to it from dealing with them for years seeing how Anti was one of the first egos.

Detroit: Become Human fans, please consider checking out C4/AMC Humans!

I’ve been meaning to make this post since D:BH’s release, but I just found out that Humans was canceled after three seasons, and in my grief, I’m going to finally deliver. I’m not sure what the overlap between these two fandoms is like because I’ve never seen anyone talking about it and couldn’t find any posts tagged with both, which surprises me a lot.

For those unfamiliar with either, both shows are set in a world where humanoid robots are commonplace as servants and members of the workforce, and what happens when some of these individuals begin to achieve sentience. Asides from the subject matter- so similar I literally don’t have to explain them separately- so many characters have parallel roles in the story, the commonalities, from the overarching themes, to the robot detective, to the blue blood, are practically endless. I really want to draw people’s attention to Humans, though, because in my opinion it’s a severely underrated show, and I think those who enjoyed D:BH would get more of what they loved from it, and those who had more mixed feelings about it would find Humans delivers where D:BH lacks.

Let me explain what I mean.

Warning, though, that this ramble won’t be spoiler free, so if you‘re interested in the show but don’t want to read any spoilers- I’d really urge you to give it a shot!

Also warning, I’m a little dismissive of D:BH here, but that’s not to say I dislike it or don’t think people should like it, etc. I’m just trying to explain why I think in some areas, Humans does better- ofc, Humans is a tv show and not a game that needs engaging gameplay and multiple endings, so it has opportunities D:BH doesn’t.

The Synths (Androids)

I’m not a huge fan of the way androids are presented in D:BH, and the reason I’d argue for that is Cage makes no real effort to “other,” them- in fact, he goes beyond the logical to make them as human as possible. Androids’ body language and movement, range of facial expressions, idiosyncratic habits like Connor’s coin flipping, tendency even, to lie down to rest... they endear them to the player, but they’re ultimately all superfluous. Why were these things programmed in? Why don’t they operate as economically as possible? Further, why do androids become deviant, and burst out of their programming? We’re told it’s due to “stress,” but why can they feel such stress in the first place, and why does it trigger sudden sentience? We never get a clear answer. It’s pretty unclear, admittedly, how sentient androids are before they become deviant in the first place- and I see where the game was coming from with that, however...

Synths in Humans are far more unsettling- the actors portray their movements with a jarringly uniform perfection. Their speech and facial expressions are far less emotional, because emotions were never intended for them. They can’t feel physical pain, (although incurring damage remains a stressful and frightening experience) because again, that was never intended for them, and so they have no mechanism by which to do so. This gives humans arguing that they’re only machines a lot more clout. Everyone has memories of blank slates who never laugh or smile, and who can be turned off with a tap under the chin, only to crumple like mannequins. There’s times when they’re presented to the audience as unapologetically eerie and even disgusting, and it’s easy to see, therefore, how they’re being perceived by the public as machines or monsters, which arguably, was somewhat less credible in D:BH, where even non-deviant androids were personable and warm, had the capacity to create art from their imaginations, etc. Letting synths be genuinely different to humans while still portraying them as sentient and deserving of rights, rather than just... “human, but mechanical,” gives the issue a lot more nuance and fuels the inclusion of elements like anti-synth propaganda, and counter-protest, which I’ll talk more about later.

(As a note, the “why” behind their sentience is also explained in a manner that was, imho, more coherent and satisfying.)

As I mentioned before, a lot of the characters have seeming direct parallels, so I’m going to take this opportunity to talk about a couple of characters in depth.

Niska

The blue-haired Traci’s appearance is one of the most controversial elements of the game, from what I’ve seen. The writers undeniably dipped their toes into multiple subjects fraught with heavy implications in her scene, but ultimately that was as far as it went- Traci and her lover only existed to further the narratives of Hank and Connor (and to provide a frankly fan-servicey fight scene while scantily clad in the rain, but hey, that’s neither here nor there.) To anyone who found this character interesting but ultimately underutilized, might I introduce you to the light of my life; Niska. Like Traci, Niska spends a stint as a prostitute, and ultimately kills one of her patrons and skips the joint. Like Traci, Niska is a wlw- although her relationship with her girlfriend comes a little later on in the show. Unlike Traci, Niska is one of the main protagonists of the show, and undeniably one of the most important- she holds everyone’s fate in her hands more than once, she’s fascinating from an emotional point of view- her traumas are confronted in depth and not dismissed- and her actions are very often a driving force in the plot line. Her relationship with her girlfriend is developed on screen, and in many ways, arguably the most important in the entire show.

Max

I‘ve seen criticism of the revolution storyline in D:BH in that violent protest always nets you a bad ending, and in that the peaceful route is arguably too idealistic.I’d posit Max’s storyline (and the effects of his dynamics with Mia, Niska, etc.) as a more nuanced exploration of the issue. There’s characters pushing for both paths and they’re all portrayed as understandable, and their reasons for pushing either a peaceful or violent agenda are present and reasonable. As similar as he might seem to Markus at first glance, I’d argue Max, soft-spoken, brotherly, and empathetic, is a very different kind of leader, so I’m hesitant to compare them too much. But it’s interesting to see a character like this in such a high-pressure leadership role, and I’d argue that this is a less rose-tinted look at compassion in the face of oppression and violence.

Sam

I’m not going to mince words on D:BH’s Alice twist- to me, it felt inorganic and disappointing. I felt like the game withheld foreshadowing and intentionally misdirected the player to keep the reveal a surprise, and that really bothered me. However you feel about the Alice reveal, it’s undeniable that it is so late on in the game means that the whole idea of robo-kids being adopted into human families doesn’t really get explored in much depth. Humans gets more into the grit of this, discussing how a kid like this would be able to relate to kids and adults alike, what this strange form of “eternal youth,” would mean, etc. If that was an idea that interested you, you’ll get far more of it in Humans.

This really isn’t where the parallels stop- like I mentioned, we have a robot detective with a really close relationship with their human partner (hannor shippers, I’m looking right at you) we’ve got themes of domestic violence and abuse, we’ve got separated families, we’ve got art and morality- I can’t be here all day, but I’ll say it like this; if it’s explored in D:BH, it’s probably explored in Humans, too.

The Humans

D:BH is very much grounded in the perspective of androids- all the player characters are androids, as are the majority of the supporting cast- Hank is arguably the only human character that gets any real screen time, and one of the only real insights we get into how humans are coping with this new android-filled world. I think this is a shame, because the setting is a really interesting one, and a lot goes unexplored, or at least, unexplored in depth. It frankly feels kind of disingenuous to me to only see little of Markus’ impact beyond a number on the screen labeled “public opinion,” and this is something that I feel Humans deals with a lot better. One of Humans’ biggest strengths is, ironically, the humans in it- the viewer is grounded in this sweeping, overarching plotline primarily through the perspective of the Hawkins family, but ultimately other human characters play a lot of important roles as well. We’ve got synth/human romances, we’ve got humans passing as synths (yes, that IS Princess Shuri down there) we’ve got synths passing as humans, we’ve got humans campaigning for synth rights, we’ve got humans campaigning for synth extinction. Getting the human side of the story is really valuable and adds so much to the narrative as a whole, it makes the protagonists’ struggle more real and raises the stakes.

Frankly this post is a mess but if you made it this far, thanks for reading, and please watch Humans if you like this type of sci-fi. I promise it’s worth it.
