Do you ever feel the immense urge to destroy everything you have and/or worked on and destroying your entire identity and running away and starting again? Not with any apparent reason, I'm not talking about "traumatic event means I gotta go now" book trope, I mean just out of the blue? I'm trying so hard to keep myself from deleting all of my accounts of everything I've done over the years, and also from tossing out all of my art and materials irl, as well as my plants, and everything else, and dropping out of uni and the undergrad research and all, and just going hell knows where, because also this country is kind of really concentrated in very few places.

“The world unwraps itself, again and again, as soon as you are ready to see it anew”, acrylic on wood panel, 9 x 12 “, 2024.
-
A gift for my bestie Alexandria Redmon. We met in high school Art 1 class by chance, something happened to my schedule and I had to switch to a different period after the first week, to the block she was in. I was a sophomore and she was a junior. We quickly became inseparable friends. She got me into photography, and I took Art 2 just so we could hang out more. Without her, I’m not sure if I would have ever gotten into art as much as I am today. After she graduated, my art teacher Ms. Foster encouraged me to continue to an AP art class. Sometime my Junior year of high school, my mom and I went to visit my uncle Karl who was working in Washington D.C. (at NASA), and so we got to go see a LOT of art. I was obsessed with MC Escher and REALLY wanted to see his work at the National Gallery of Art, so we went! I walked up to the desk and asked where his work was hanging, and they told me it wasn’t up currently. My lil face was devastated; they could clearly tell how much I wanted to see Escher’s work, and so they did something that still blows me away to this day—they let me into their library, pulled up two carts full of his lithos, and let me look through them with white gloves. I remember my hands and arms shaking with excitement as I got to go through these delicate prints, and it was at that moment I knew I wanted to be an artist. What did I document this with? A 35 mm Minolta Alex had let me take to DC. I still have the blurry photos.
This piece would also not be possible without her; she unknowingly chose the colors, which were taken from a website she made: https://save.page/ which is a cool bookmarking website (like if you remember del.icio.us). I grabbed the hex codes from her site, put them into Golden paints online color mixer, and tubed up my colors! They are: Alexandria Purple, Redmon Orange, Perfect Blue, Powerful Pink, Gorgeous Green, and Hover State Slate.
Thank your for believing in me

—VIA KASHIKI! 📐
Tumblr media
“Ehehe~ Sorry, I’m not familiar with that stuff… I’m sure you can do it, though!”
TABLE OF CONTENTS:
APPEARANCE
PERSONALITY
TRIVIA/DYNAMICS
GALLERY
APPEARANCE:
Via is an averagely built girl with a bigger bust who is often found swinging her arms around. She has very voluminous dark blue hair that is always tied into two parts, along with blunt bangs. Her bangs split into three thick parts, two of which flare outward and give her little spikes, similar to Nene’s. The middle strand is short and a yellow, crescent shaped piece of hair lays on it. She has four more yellow strands in front of her ears, two on each side that frame her face. Her hair is very long and thick, going all the way down to her hips. It is slightly wavy and fairly neat.
Via does not use any overly visible makeup, and she has bright amber, almond eyes. Her eyes are a brownish red and fade out into a yellow. Via’s most common expression is a soft smile.
When wearing her club/SEKAI wear, she wears the varsity jacket in a normal fashion, but ties her hair with blue streamers and adds two clips to the right side of her bangs. The clips consist of a red triangle clip and a blue butterfly clip, both corresponding to Colorful Splash!’s respective colors. Under the jacket, she wears a collared white shirt that is tied up to create a cropped effect, and a yellow skirt with a subtle white lining on the hem. To top off the look, she wears white stockings with a blue line across the top, and yellow shoes which match her image color.
PERSONALITY:
Around Kamiyama High, Via holds a reputation for being a ditzy yet useless person. She is very kind and always welcoming to everyone and everything, but when it comes down to favors, she often comes up with excuses of not being capable or not knowing how to do certain things. Despite this, her company is very calming and refreshing to be around.
She is very easygoing and doesn’t have strong opinions on many things, but due to the fact that she always tends to the Kamiyama gardens any chance she has, it’s easy to assume that she has a nurturing and careful nature. Via also doesn’t mind gaining weird stares or being seen as odd. She comfortably says whatever comes to mind, whether it be a little out of the ordinary or even not make sense. She’s a person who goes with her heart rather than her head.
With Via’s kind and flexible personality, every member of Colorful Splash! enjoys her company and what she brings to the table. Seemingly getting a special treatment, the members and Virtual Singers gain some sort of bonus from Via, as she’s comfortable with treating them and going out of her way to make them happy. With most, she tends to stray away from doing more than needed, but she can’t help but find herself doting after everybody.
Via also tends to be the funniest person in the group, always sending the group into a laughing frenzy with her blunt words. A too-honest jab from her can send the group from ab awkward situation to a comfortable one, and the group is insanely thankful for it.
TRIVIA/DYNAMICS:
Via is unlabeled and doesn’t have any strict gender or sexuality. Though, she goes by she/her and is very feminine leaning.
Via has trust issues related to past history with others.
Despite her ditzy seeming personality, this part of Via is mainly a defense mechanism and an act. In reality, Via is a down to earth individual that excels in academics, but due to experiences of being taken advantage of, she uses this front as a way to avoid being used.
Though, the head in the clouds attitude is the only thing Via forces from herself. Everything else about her is entirely authentic.
Via joined Colorful Splash! for fun and to see what fellow idol fans were like, but ended up staying because everybody there was unaware about her academic status. She enjoyed it because like she felt like she could start anew, apart from the fact that she felt like she was hiding something from them.
Via never struggles with any academics of any kind, and instead is often called for as a tutor.
Speaking of tutors, Akito occasionally comes to Via for help with studies due to being in the same class. She insists that she doesn’t need any form of payment, and Akito feels bad, but appreciative.
Via is in class 1-C, which means she shares a class with Akito. All people in this class are aware of Via’s smarts, despite her wanting to keep it on the down low. She would hate it if word got out, in fear of being taken advantage of again.
There is nothing Via hates more than people simply taking her work instead of taking the time to fully sit down and learn.
Via stans More More Jump! and her bias is Minori. She previously followed ASRUN, and as a result has a soft spot for Haruka.
Out of all of the Colosplash members, Via has the strongest interest in idols with Ashi following behind.
Via plays a game called “Super Star Idol Live” which is practically Project Sekai with idols. The game features ASRUN as a unit, and Via has all of Haruka’s cards. She’s saving up and waiting for the day More More Jump! gets added.
Her room is very basic with simple yellow walls, but the uniqueness of it comes from the amount of posters and albums she has collected. They are everywhere.
Via is very good at saving up and not giving in to the gacha gambling.
She has strong belief in good deeds being reciprocated, but has been disappointed in recent years.
Via has a very strong need to help people out, even with the smallest things. She has a naturally big heart and loves to see people happy.
A small deed in return means a lot to Via. Something very simple can lead to her getting emotional and gushy, and the worst case is a wave from one of her favorite idols. It would result in her passing out.
Via doesn’t hate any season, but she notes that she occasionally likes colder weather because she gets to utilize her hair. She never gets cold because her hair can act as a scarf.
Via’s family is very serious compared to her. They have a strong importance for grades, but not to the point that it’s suffocating.
Via longs for any praise from her father. She loves him very much and it would make her day to see him crack a smile and tell her something nice. This does not mean that they have a strained relationship.
She has a mom, dad, and older sister. Her father is fairly old.
The yellow streaks in her hair are purely natural.
Via enjoys growing berries. She has several small blueberries growing both at home and in the Kamiyama gardens, but there’s nothing she hates eating more than a sour blueberry.
Via has lots of knowledge regarding plants and gardening.
Due to saying whatever comes to mind, Via occasionally says something that’s a little too honest. It never hurts too badly, it just might be embarrassing or exposing…
When Via speaks, her voice often carries out and has a floaty tone to it. Her voice is the highest out of Colorful Splash!, and her voice would be something like Sana from TWICE.
Via is very quick at learning choreography, and her moves are the most exact out of Colorful Splash! Her dance style is the most generic, but just watching her makes you happy.
More to come!

The empty version of the apartment building is available on the Sims 4 gallery! (…where you can also find the household I created for this apartment.) I will share the furnished version as soon as all the apartments are finished!
Gallery ID: LaTalpaVolante
You can watch the speed build on my YouTube channel:

More information and backstory under the cut:
Known issues The bed is only accessible from the left side as the path to the right side is unfortunately blocked by the punchbag in the corner (or by its huge footprint, to be precise). So if you want two sims to sleep in the bed, one will either have to scoot over or you'll have to delete the punchbag. (As I only imagined one person to live in this apt., for me it didn't matter that much and it was more important for me to keep the punchbag, but it might be annoying if you want to use it differently.)
And there was a problem with my sim not using the free kitchen counter (I was ranting about it in this post). After an hour of playtesting and almost losing my mind, it seems this was either caused by a bug or by my save being corrupted or something... So you might encounter the same issue or not, but as far as I'm aware, it's not caused by the way the kitchen is built...
Sorry for these inconveniences, everything else should work fine.
Way too long Backstory Ever since he was a teen, Piet was involved in criminal activities. From pickpocketing and shoplifting he eventually got to bigger thefts and burglary. It was basically the only thing he knew, and the people who introduced him to this life felt way more like family than his own one.
But when one of their jobs went wrong, he ended up in prison. Now, some years later, he's been released and needs to find a way to start anew. As he doesn't have his old apartment anymore, he had to find a new place to stay and eventually could rent a cheap, run-down basement flat in the old town of Britechester. Together with his friends, he tried to fix up the place as much as he could and furnish it with what was left from his old belongings and whatever other stuff they could find. The apartment is still grungy and doesn't feel much like a home, but at least there was space for his favourite bands' posters and the old lighthouse painting, and for now that will have to do.
As much as he would love to start completely from scratch and leave his past behind, Piet feels the life he desires is out of reach for him, for various reasons. And with old habits and acquaintances keeping a grip on him, will anything ever actually change or will he end up choosing his old familiar path again?

Marcus Pike x f!reader
Warnings: talk of anxiety, antidepressants, side effects, and worries.
Summary: A little ficlet/personal piece on antidepressant use with fluffy Marcus.
WC:616
Banana Pancakes
The canvas sat in front of her as blank as it had been the day she bought it. For a while, she pondered how it mirrored the void inside of her. The difference was that the canvas had clearly defined edges. The void within her was hazy.
It seemed to shift and blur and cloak her passions, sometimes consuming them completely. For a while, it stole her passion for Marcus. His late night visits never went further than cuddling on her sofa. At the time, he was caught up in a big case, so he often came to her bone tired and wary. If he noticed her lack of desire for him, he never mentioned it. Or the fact when it returned that her body didn't react to him the way it usually did.
Her latest passion to be consumed was for her art. There were fleeting moments of inspiration, an itch of an idea at the back of her mind, the tug of the lure of creation then…nothing. Days went by when she didn't even think about her art or anyone else's. Gallery shows came and went. Books and articles piled up unread. She missed the thrill of discovering a new artist. She missed the rush from creating. The little blue pill from her doctor was supposed to lift her mood. In some ways, it had. Her anxiety had lessened. Her days passed easier without the burden of a busy, over cautious mind. The pill was helping, yet she wondered if it was worth what she had lost. The power of creation. The connection she felt with others through their artist expression. The joy of seeing the world anew through the eyes of others. The shared interest with her love.
Marcus found her sitting in her workspace. She almost didn't hear him letting himself through the side door. His footsteps on the concrete floor of the converted space alerted her, and she fixed her posture. Instead of being slumped and staring into space, she sat up and looked purposefully, seemingly deep in thought. Marcus's arms wrapped around her waist, his lips touched her shoulder before he nuzzled into her neck. His hair is soft under her fingertips as she lean into his affection. The words tumble out before she really thinks about them. The confession that's been on the tip of her tongue this past month. Just after she and Marcus exchanged 'I love yous' for the first time as her brain couldn't fully enjoy the moment.
"...What if this is me now? What if that passion never returns? What if that part of my life is done and I lose those connections? To my friends…to you?" All those secret worries were out now.
Marcus was quiet for a moment before drawing her every further back into his arms. His heat and strength pressed reassuringly to her back. "Or what if this is another phase, albeit slightly longer, and on the other side, you gain so much more? Your passion coupled with a lighter heart and mind? For the record, our connection goes much deeper than a shared love of art."
"I would hope so." She managed a chuckle with tears in her eyes.
"Of course it does. We also have our love for banana pancakes." His smile bloomed against the skin of her neck. "Come on, I'll make you some."
Sat at the kitchen table with Marcus humming as he flipped another batch of pancakes, the first spark of inspiration flared under her skin. The fine hairs on the back of her hand stood up. When Marcus's hand came to cover them, she felt a renewed hope. For her art. For her life.
Author's note: This is a little drabble on why I haven't been relentlessly tagging you guys in the craziest of shit from my brain lately, or been very active here.

BOKURA sequel BOKURA: planet announced for PC - Gematsu
Tumblr media
Publisher Kodansha and developer Tokoronyori have announced two-player puzzle action adventure game BOKURA: planet, a sequel to February 2023-released BOKURA. It will launch for PC via Steam in early 2025.
Here is an overview of the game, via Kodansha:
About
Platform: PC (Steam)
Supported Languages: Japanese, English, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), Korean, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain)
Genre: Two-Player Action Puzzle Adventure
Release Date: Early 2025
Suggested Retail Price: Unconfirmed
Players: Two
Developer: Tokoronyori
Publisher: Kodansha
BOKURA: planet must be played with two people on different devices. This puzzle adventure game requires the two players to communicate and work together to solve the puzzles. A new story unfolds in BOKURA: planet’s new setting. Newly added actions and puzzles will be added.
Progress Through Stages Through Two-Player Cooperation and Puzzle-Solving
BOKURA: planet requires two players using two machines to communicate to play this two-player puzzle adventure game. The two players must convey what they each are seeing to their partner and work together to solve the puzzles in each stage, but a new “push” action has been added to BOKURA: planet! Players can send each other flying as they play the game… …which means that players can push each other off cliffs if one is in the other’s way. Cooperation alone might not be enough this time! Players must not only work together, but anxiously navigate the possibility of confrontation.
Story
The earth was destroyed, and the few survivors began anew from the Stone Age, and a new civilization was built. Eventually, they were able to journey into space, and so they planned to investigate faraway planets. However, the distance between the earth and those planets was great, and it would take several hundred years to complete the journey. Therefore, those condemned to death row were chosen to carry out the investigation. On the journey, the research ship breaks down and two crew members must make an emergency escape. They make an emergency landing on an unknown red planet, and they both have their own reason why they must return to Earth. Will they be able to return safely?
The Newest Work from Tokoronyori (Planet of the Lonely, BOKURA) Tokoronyori has continually created mysterious works brimming with originality with his unique worldview and artistic sense. In 2016, Planet of the Lonely became a hot topic on social media. BOKURA was released in February 2023 as a member Kodansha Game Creators’ Lab Vol. 1, and has sold more than 600,000 copies. It garnered attention from streamers and VTubers in Japan and around the world. His specialty is creating experiences that can only be lived in games by incorporating unique settings in his games.
Message from the Creator BOKURA: planet is based on ideas from the planning stages of BOKURA. At the time, I was able to expand ideas that were antithetical to BOKURA, but I chose to bring various ideas into equilibrium to create BOKURA. I am confident that I made the right decision, but at the same time, I often wondered what would have happened if I had pursued some of those other ideas. Eventually, I couldn’t stand wondering what might have been and created BOKURA: planet. It has turned out wonderfully.

Epilogue
March 11th, 2019
“So you’re the girl Clarke has been hiding all these months. It’s great to finally meet you!” Octavia sweeps Lexa into a hug, welcoming her into their home.
It’s not the first time they’ve met. They’ve actually met several times since Clarke came knocking on her door back in January. But each time, Octavia forgets. Each time, she’s greeted anew.
Clarke squeezes her thigh under the table, a soft apology for the repetition. They haven’t quite navigated how they’ll deal with this as more and more time passes. Not meeting the new girlfriend when it’s only been a handful of months is reasonable. What happens when it’s years? A decade?
June 12th, 2020
Clarke has a second exhibit of Lexa portraits.
Lexa grabs a glass from a nearby tray, and sits back to watch her girlfriend work. She loves watching Clarke talk about a piece, the way her eyes light up, the way she moves her hands to show what she was talking about.
She watches the one person who remembers her listen to and answer questions from some buyer on the other side of the gallery. She looks good, all business focused. This is the same girl who sprinkles cinnamon in her tea, koalas around a warm body in bed, paints Lexa and only Lexa. She’s suddenly struck by just how much she loves this girl. How much happier she has been since watching her stuff appetizers into her purse at some event two years ago.
By the time Lexa makes it to Clarke, the evening is winding down.
“How did you like it?”
“Looking at a room full of my own nudes? It’s a real ego boost,” Lexa jokes, “But seriously. I love it. Even better than the last one. I’m so proud of you, Clarke.”
“Is it weird for you? Coming in on my arm and having no one remember meeting you before?”
“It is, but I like seeing you work. I like being able to come support you. It’s worth it.” She brushes a lock of hair behind Clarke’s ear and kisses her cheek.
They’re walking home in the dark, fingers tangled, still buzzing from the excitement of the evening, when a shadow appears from an alleyway. They both think they’re about to be mugged, before they realize they recognize the shadowy figure.
Lexa steps protectively in front of Clarke.
“You shouldn’t be able to do this,” he sneers, “Your art was mine in our deal.”
“I asked for her in every capacity. That included my art, apparently,” Clarke flaunts, “Careful with your wording next time, dearie,” she parrots the words he used against Lexa so many times back to him.
His eyes glow red again, fuming with anger. He steps closer to Lexa, staring her down, then snaps his fingers, and disappears.
They both check themselves over again to make sure they’re not hurt. He’s just as bound to his contracts as they are, but he did something, they’re just not sure what.
Later that evening, Lexa finds her first gray hair, and smiles. He restarted her aging. He’s going to be so angry when he realizes that makes things easier for her.
October 8th, 2020
Clarke has a ring box in her sock drawer. She’s had it for months, but she cannot fathom leaving it there any longer or she’s going to explode. Sometimes she looks at Lexa and her heart feels like it is about to pound out of her chest. She thought you were supposed to grow out of that after dating for so long. Apparently not.
Being in love used to mystify her. She used to worry about the other shoe dropping. Too afraid to give someone else so much of her heart and trust them not to break it. But she looks at Lexa and all of those worries disappear. She looks at Lexa and sees the woman she’ll grow old with. The fact that that doesn’t terrify her terrifies her.
She probably should have hidden it somewhere less cliche. She doesn’t even think about it when she tells Lexa to grab a pair of her fuzzy socks from her drawer when she complains of chilly feet.
When Lexa emerges from the bedroom clutching that not-so-well-hidden box moments later, Clarke’s brain kicks into overdrive.
“Clarke, what’s this?” Lexa asks.
“Shit, you weren’t supposed to find it like this,” Clarke decides now is as good a time as any. She really should have rehearsed this, written something down maybe. She scrambles to take the box from Lexa’s hands, “Lexa, I have loved you since before I could remember. Literally. We met dozens of times, and each time was new, and each time I fell for you. Even though I couldn’t remember you, I had this gut feeling, this wrenching feeling that I was missing something because I was. I was missing you. You complete me. You make me a better artist. A better person, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?”
If comes out as a jumble of words, all tripping out of Clarke’s mouth at once, but she bends down on one knee, looks up earnestly at Lexa, and opens the box.
Lexa’s eyes look watery, and then she says the last thing Clarke expected, “Clarke, I can’t,” and Clarke feels like all of the air was sucked out of her lungs. Oh god. Has she misread this the whole time? Clarke stumbles and she snaps the box closed and moves to stand, when Lexa’s words seem to catch up to her own brain.
“Wait, that didn’t come out right. I would love to, but I can’t.”
Clarke’s lip wobbles, “That really doesn’t sound any different.”
“Clarke, my name can’t be on a marriage license. You literally can’t marry me. Your friends and family don’t remember meeting me. How would that even work?”
“It’s not for them. Or the state. It’s for me. And you. It’s for us. Of course I know your name can’t go on a license. I know I reintroduce people to you regularly. The point is that I love you, and I want to be able to call you my wife, even if we do a ceremony of just us in our pajamas at home.”
“Oh,” Lexa softens, she blushes a beet red and shuffles a bit in her borrowed fuzzy socks, “Is it too late to change my answer then?”
Clarke slips the ring out of the box and places it on Lexa’s finger. Her eyes are misty and her smile is so bright she can’t help but taste it, but not before whispering, “so stupid” in the space between them first.
They wear dresses and buy rings and a cake the next month. Saying vows in front of Clarke’s childhood stuffed animal that sits on the shelf in the living room.
September 5th, 2034
By Clarke’s fourth show, she’s earned herself quite the reputation. She’s famous for her portraits, all of the same woman. Only of this same woman. Art critics call her Clarke’s “Secret Muse.” They write essays about how no one has ever met her. There’s speculation of if she’s real or just a figment of Clarke’s creativity.
“Listen to this one,” Lexa calls from the couch, "As I stand under the largest piece of Ms. Griffin's latest tantalizing exhibition, aptly named, Stranger in Plain Sight, it is hard not to feel as though I should know this woman beyond the void of mere charcoal and bristle. Beyond the beauty and whimsy of such an elusive muse; an ethereal kind of elegance painted in what can only be described as liminal glimpses into her soul. Each canvas serves as a piece of the greater puzzle, an obscure abstraction dangling on Ms. Griffin's ever elusive string, one that makes this particular viewer yearn for the surely sublime knowledge of even knowing this subject's name," Lexa reads with a snort while sitting in a ripped pair of boxers and a T-shirt with a coffee stain. "But, dear reader, I can say with confidence such a void remains between artist and ardent viewer. Where Ms. Griffin has seemingly left no stone unturned with her muse, alas, we woeful patrons are condemned to collect her only in brushstrokes, and the most verdant hues of green."
Clarke giggles from the kitchen table, “It’ll never get old that you have met half of these people and they’re still completely unaware. You shook her hand last year at the Met for god’s sake!”
“They haven’t made deals with the devil, don’t judge them!” Lexa sassing back.
There are rumors about why Clarke wears a wedding ring. If the mystery spouse has been the muse all along. Interviewers frequently ask why they aren’t present, and Clarke just answers with a knowing smirk, usually with Lexa on her arm, or at the very least making eye-contact with her across the room.
The mystery adds to the value.
May 5th 2088
By the time they’re old and gray, there are hundreds of portraits of Lexa. Her life is captured in glimpses and pieces on canvas. It is the only mark she is able to leave in the world. Lexa feels like every bit of her soul has truly been seen by the world, whether they know it or not. Clarke leaves a big enough mark on the world for both of them.
In her old age, Clarke begins to forget things. She’ll forget where she is, if she’s taken her pills, the directions to the drugstore. But she never forgets Lexa. Sometimes she’s confused in time, lost back somewhere in her twenties when she sees a painting of Lexa done in their youth.
“That’s my wife, you know,” Clarke says.
Lexa answers with a fond smile, “Yes, love, I know.” She kisses a wrinkled hand.
When Clarke passes at 88 years old, Lexa knows for certain that Clarke was the best part of her life, and with her mark in the world irrevocably there, she lets the darkness take her soul.

Hi and welcome to this thing that's sort of a prequel to the timeline I'm working on. The working title is Alberta Story, but as you can see I kind of changed directions midway through as I thought about it more, I figured if I was getting frustrated then surely Ed was also getting frustrated with it so I turned it over to him to express that, haha. I wrote the first half of this last fall and stewed on it for about a year and decided, screw it, I don't know where I'm going with this but I will slap on a few more panels and figure it out as I go.
This might be the closest thing to a reboot of the BoAB main storyline for a while. I wanted to do something that gave a cursory outline of Canadian / Albertan history for people who are new to it, but of course it runs the risk of repeating every narrative Canada / Alberta have about themselves and that's quite frustrating, to be honest! Particularly when you are trying to write characters who lived through a great chunk of it.
I was trying to think about where to "start" the story of Alberta, particularly after reading Mavericks: An Incorrigible History of Alberta. A lot of the tongue in cheek ahistorical assigning of Albertan-ness to even protozoic life rubbed me the wrong way even though I found it an interesting narrative, so I wanted to illustrate the difficulty of "beginning".
Additionally: I really find it frustrating in the Hetalia fandom when people kind of take Himaruya's approach and suggest the colonized personifications almost predate colonization somehow, like they were "always there", or the approach that they are direct descendants of some ambiguous ancestral "Native America" that mysteriously no longer exists. At the same time, I sort of understand how it also happens with the narratives we construct ourselves, in textbooks and museums, that have long illustrated "pre-history" (Indigenous history) as opposed to "history" (the "Real" history of Euro-Canadians). It's a cultural underpinning that needs to be undone.
I don't make any ambitious claims to produce real, decolonizing work, I realize there's this big gap in this universe I'm building that acknowledges municipal personifications and only vaguely gestures at the idea of others and there's a myriad of issues with that, but it's a place that I as a euro-canadian myself am starting with and I hope to continue learning and growing from here.
"Here" is summed up as: isn't it crazy that a company that was just gifted 1/12th of the surface of the Earth not only predates the idea of this country and its cities but also still exists and is just a place you end up in at the mall now?
More detailed explanation of each panel follows.
Diver's Claw: Several stories in different First Nations cosmologies reference the Creator or another figure making a flood that covered the whole earth, where a survivor (Wisakedjek in Cree/Ojibwe stories, Na'pi in Blackfoot, etc) sends down a succession of animals to the bottom of the waters to retrieve a piece of the old earth, which they can then use to create anew.
Mounds of Earth: When the Northwest Mounted Police were sent out west from Canada after purchasing the territories (including Alberta) from the Hudson's Bay Company in 1870, they marked the border along what would become the 49th parallel between Canada and the United States with piles of dirt.
Descent from the Stars: This is supposed to be a depiction of Manitou Asiniy, also known as the Manitou Stone or Creator's Stone, a meteorite that has spiritual significance to many Indigenous peoples. As I write this, he (as a sacred being, he is referred to with these pronouns) is currently in the custody of the Royal Alberta Museum which has recently agreed to return him to the site where he was originally taken from near Hardisty in 1866. Currently, the gallery is open for worship and ceremony until it is time to repatriate him.
Bodies liquified in coral: this is NOT a scientific illustration, haha. The idea is that a lot of Albertan identity comes from about 400 million years ago in the Devonian period. At the time, a big chunk of "Alberta" was covered by ocean. The organisms lived, died, and over time became crushed by sediment layered over them. Coral has a lot of holes perfect for holding this sludge and fossilizes nicely here, and it is this layer of Earth's long history that speculators are looking for when drilling for oil.
Lips to a book: Alberta joined Confederation on September 1st, 1905, which our last premier tried to commemorate with a holiday that no one showed up to. Back at the turn of the century however, it was a massive party attended by Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier and the Governor General, a position in Canadian parliament that represents the King or Queen of England. Govenor General Grey (his grandpa was the Earl Grey the tea was named for, I believe) was the one who kissed the bible at this inauguration.
Prince: The prince here is Prince Rupert, who Rupert's Land was named for, and the king in question is Charles II of England (yes, the Restoration and Great Fire of London party guy from the Stuart era). Rupert's Land centred on Hudson's Bay and made up over 40% of what is now considered Canada. The Hudson's Bay Company was granted the charter to all this territory - if they found the Northwest Passage while they were at the business of acquiring beaver or otter pelts, it was certainly a bonus.
The rest is fairly self explanatory, I hope. Like I said, I felt like I was falling into the trap of the same old story of pioneers and exploration that has been absolutely done to death in Canadian history, and I didn't have anything particularly new to say about it that would maintain this storybook level of accessibility so I just. Stopped! Shifted gears! haha. Still, I think the fur trade is a very important piece to the puzzle that often gets either a bit overhyped or glossed over in favour of railroads in Canadian history and almost entirely ignored and forgotten in American history, and it makes sense to start there, particularly for Ed who has a lot of Complicated Feelings about it.
Enjoy! Maybe one day I will figure out part two.

Elminx muses about color magic at the height of Autumn
Tumblr media
Note: I wrote this a year ago but never published it so the astrological aspects are off, but I think it's worth sharing anyway.
I remain at my heart a skeptical witch. Especially when it comes to magical associations and even more especially when it comes to color magic. There are things that I understand instinctively about the use of color on my mood - wearing my favorite colors to make me feel better, or perhaps more powerful, for example.
But ever since I learned why black was bad and white was good, pre-set color associations have been pretty hard to swallow for me.
Occasionally, I meet a color anew and a greater understanding of it emerges. Then, and only then, am I inclined to use it in my magic.
This happened to me this week with the color orange.
Some background: I spent the last month in a pretty deep and unseasonal (for me) depression. I've mostly worked my way out of it but I was still behind in both my jobs and struggling to catch up - I'm sure that anybody who struggles with depression understands what I mean. Things had gotten better, I haven't sobbed daily in at least two weeks. But I was nowhere near good. I was still stagnant.
Last weekend was busy: my partner and I both got our bivalent vaccines on Thursday, my friend had a music thing, another friend had a birthday, and my partner and I had to watch the gallery of our art thing on Sunday afternoon. By the time Sunday rolled around we were just tired and stretched thin. We got ourselves bagel sandwiches and drove to the gallery which is in the middle of nowhere in an old New England town.
We opened the space and then sat outside with our lunch to enjoy the fair weather and - seemingly right before our eyes - the entire world turned orange. That's the thing about New England, seasons change in a moment and if you're watching, you might just see it happen. Every time we stepped outside that door, the world was more orange. Leaves danced down all around us.
It rained all day on Monday and I had to scurry hurry around to get a lot of work done. I effortlessly multitasked and caught up on weeks' worth of work in ten hours. Then, on Tuesday afternoon, I put on sneakers and walked across town to photograph something that I've needed for months and months.
All of it, all of the gunk, all of the stuckness, it was just gone.
I've spent the last two days trying to comprehend this shift. Was it astrological? Sun trine Mars is nice and was certainly giving me energy, but that wasn't it. Not entirely anyway.
Autumn in New England is something special. It's not just the sweet smell of decaying leaves, or the brilliant displays of yellows, oranges, and reds in the trees. There is a longing in the chill in the air, a hint of something hiding in the long shadows and fading light.
There is a sense of urgency, a feeling of the need to gobble it all up before it's gone, gone, gone.
Orange is a harvest color, a color of ripeness and plenty. The blood of the North runs deep in my veins; when I see it, it lights up every part of me.
Here in New England, the color of orange whispers this: You cannot rest now. Rest when the days are dark and you need to huddle under a blanket for warmth. Now is a time of doing, of expanding, of collecting. Now we harvest when we have sown and now we come together to do the work of the harvest together.
Interestingly, this aligns strongly with the idea that orange is a color of unblocking or road opening. I can attest that the turning of the leaves did this exact thing.

Coffee To Go
Adrian and Blanca go to the park.
A little filler scene, because the next one is going so slow.
[pet safety masterpost]
Content (warning): BBU, some behind the scenes peeks on pet lib organisation
There were several coffee stands littered over the waterfront park, most serving cheaper coffee than the little bike with the green roof that Adrian was strolling towards. Most served better coffee, in fact. Joana didn't put a lot of effort into growing her customer base.
Joana's effort went into privacy.
"You cannot be serious," she hissed, as she handed him his usual - a large caffe latte with hazelnut syrup. Her dark eyes flurried between him and Bea by his side. "You can't stroll around here with a fucking runaway, there's controls everywhere. You have a fucking death wish?"
"She's not a runaway," Adrian replied evenly, and handed his coffee over to Bea.
"What because she dresses like a girl clone of yours one should assume she's not a pet? I've done this for longer than you have, my friend, and she's-"
"Owned," Bea said softly. "I am an owned pet. I belong to Adrian Delgado."
"What the-" The second paper cup slipped from under the espresso machine and Joana hissed as the coffee spilled over her pants. "Fuck!"
She grabbed a tissue and dabbed at the coffee on her legs, still cursing.
"Why, Adrian? How?"
"It was the only way," he said flatly. "Can I help you with anything there?"
"Not risking everything we do would be a start." She looked up at him grimly. "Of all the things that could go wrong, you buying a Romantic was not on my list. Do you..." She clicked her tongue. "Use her for her intended purpose? Fuck, I really hope you don't."
Adrian flinched. "That's none of your business," he said.
Next to him, Bea stood perfectly still, holding her untouched coffee between two fingers, only her eyes moving between them as they spoke.
Joana stared at her. "Did he? I'll get you out of this, right now, if he laid a finger on you."
"Master Adrian doesn't hurt me," Bea replied with a soft tilt of her head. "He saved me from someone who did."
"Well, I guess that's something." Joana emptied the espresso grounds and started anew. "I still don't like it."
"I figured." Adrian grimaced. "I'm not here for your advice though. Can I speak to our boss somewhere private?"
"She's at the gallery this afternoon. But I..." Joana gestured at Bea. "I won't be the one to tell her about... this."
"But we can go see her?"
"We? You want to bring the pet?"
Adrian smirked. "Bea is a person, Jo, I thought we agreed on this."
"Fuck you, Adrian." She slammed the full cup onto the counter. "Here. Six dollars."
Adrian gave her a bill. "Keep the change."
She leaned in, brought her mouth close to his ear, as she hissed. "You're a fucking idiot. You can't trust her."
Adrian shrugged. "I have to."
"She just used your full name in front of me."
"Come on, Jo. You know my full name."
She clenched her jaw and inhaled deeply, replying only with a boring stare. And she was right. She was fucking right, apart from Joana there was only a very select handful of people in the movement who knew about him. He'd phased out, built up an intricate web of lies about why he wouldn't be part of the movement any longer. He'd pushed away most of the friends he'd made, in order to protect his cover, communicated mostly via Joana or very secretive personal meetings.
Bea put all that at risk. He'd not be able to hide his sympathies from her; he'd failed at that in the last 24 hours already. At the same time, she'd be the first one to be questioned should his employer ever suspect he betrayed them. Bea shouldn't know anything about his private life, much less about the movement. Still, he refused to leave her alone. She needed help.
They both did.
And there was only one person he could think of to provide that.
Adrian lifted the cup in a mock farewell. "I'll tell her you said hi."
Joana shook her head, exhausted. "Don't."
