he gets a drink of water and a health potion (if he's lucky), delivers his report and his request for assistance, and turns right around to go through it all over again just to rejoin his squad. and when the knight-commander arrives, he joins the fight against the gargoyles wielding nothing but a cold iron masterwork dagger.

Mino's relationship with Yaker is so good to me. He's the clearly Regill's Favorite even if he'd never admit it. She can tell instantly. So he joins the rank of Younger Brother to her and he hardly knows her, like what's that got to be like?? Especially when she regains her memories and it's really like, "well you're Regill’s favorite so that means you're my favorite too"/"Ah, he has a protégé! >nods< I will die to keep him safe and see him live up to the potential Regill sees in him."

From his perspective this bizarre woman, a ganzi and the knight commander, appears that has history with his role model and commanding officer and now she's giving him extra attention too. Like, congrats on your adoption? Especially because she's so personable and friendly and easy-going in comparison, and he watches stunned as Regill permits her flippancy and casual demeanor with him with no comment or reprimand. He even seems to... no he doesn't enjoy it Regill doesn't enjoy anything. ... or does he?

Thinking of what is was like for him when Regill ordered him to take her and escape Thrune's assassination attempt, leaving himself behind to die. How he was injured too but he's also a Hellknight so grappling with those awful feelings in private while he's recovering of leaving his officer/role model behind while the woman that loves him screamed to be let go and desperately tried to break free.

And then she is the one that hugs him--hugs him tight--thanking and apologizing in the same breath for what he had to do. They both left their most cared person behind.

Then theres their friendship through the years as they appoint him the honor of being their Master Of Blades for the Order of the Vice.

Last Rashid-anon here. I have no knowledge of Christianity or Catholicism other than the basics. But given the political climate, Islam is the trickiest Abrahamic religion to bring into the discussion (of orthodoxy and religious trauma) in an LGBT fandom. Armand-Rashid's backstory is going to be another can of worms. Speaking of religion, Mr. Molloy, as a journalist of his caliber, should have known that "Ashura" is a part of Hinduism, not Islam.

So I've been discussing this topic in DM with @hekateinhell a ton since the Rashid rumors started LOL because I have no religious background at all so sometimes these topics REALLY elude me. I ran your ask by her, too, and she shared this with me about the meaning of Ashura vs the Hindu asura.

The show has made a big deal about peoples backgrounds and identities and intersections but it's also an American show so it makes me wonder like where the sensitivity and awareness is going to come in. Calling it tricky is good! I'm also really curious about the role of religion in this universe at all since it's been extremely neutered thus far, which is, for me, one of the biggest tonal departures from the books.

But even on screen, Rashid's religious practice feels a little murky. I'm trying to figure out if it's like a sort of independent, unaffiliated Vampire Version of his faith or if it's. ... yknow. Bad writing? The "a god" comment is strange. I'd also hope that a show taking this much care with people's identities would've noticed things like Rashid's fuckin shoes on his prayer mat but maybe it's part of a larger picture about his relationship with his faith????????????? also why is he even wearing shoes except to hide his vampire toenails i guess

Cause I also thought Mr. Molloy's behavior was a bit sus here, too. Like he's worldly enough to pinpoint Rashid's language/dialect but not worldly enough to not fucking walk in on him while he's praying?!?! Wow rude, okay. ((UNFORTUNATLEY THIS REALLY TRACKS FOR ARMAND/DANIEL FUCK.)) It's also interesting that his observations about language and religion didn't make it into his Rashid notes, so I wonder if this is Daniel truly not noticing/caring or the writers not noticing/caring. And I don't think we have enough information to know the answer to this yet, due to said murkiness.

But yeah like whether he truly is Armand or whether he's a rando OC like, I'm really curious what they're doing by taking the time to show us these things; I think one of my overall complaints is the show's pacing and which parts they're picking and choosing to be patient with. For a show rushing through so many important moments it's interesting that they gave Rashid & his faith this much screen time.

It's Erev Rosh Hashanah!!!!!! Rosh Hashanah is my favorite holiday, it's so important to me. Sadly I'm not going to in person HHD services this year, but tonight I'm getting together with some friends to celebrate and stream online services so that will be nice. I'm a little sad not to be going in person bc I just love it so much but for covid reasons and personal health reasons it makes more sense to celebrate at home this year. I'm trying to remind myself that one of my New Year's resolutions is to allow myself to rest as much as possible, and that by staying home and resting and taking care of my mental and physical health in that way throughout the holidays I'm honoring them in my own way, but I do feel kind of bad about it.
