everything i want everyone to know about the return of true tv pt 2 (riverdale season 7 episode 2)

jughead (who of course no longer remembers the present storyline) submitted a story to a comics company and they STOLE it i get it jughead i really do

oh thank god we’re having a sock hop this week 

fun fact about this comic book theft storyline is that every person i know (including me) who works in creative industries has a story like this. i feel like someone in the writers room is taking out some frustration. protect your work!!!! no one else will.

i forgot to say last week but betty and kevin are dating in this timeline...so i’m sure that’s gonna go well. i wrote this comment about kevin famously being a flaming homosexual with no regard for his own safety but i am watching archie and betty dance together and they actually might be the more immediate issue

is ethel still in a cult in this universe or did everyone get a blank slate? perhaps she’s just still creepy 

betty clearly on her way to ask archie to the sock hop now that veronica is no longer taking him only to be stopped by kevin to give her this PIN so that they can GO STEADY genuinely makes me kind of sad like there is no way for this to end well. pinning someone won’t fix your problems kids!

important follow-up: again, the episode ended with ethel, covered in blood, saying “something terrible’s happened.” this was the immediate trailer for the next episode:

wow, moon was a great movie. the protagonist was immediately gripping, as was the setting. being introduced to a big corporation at first was some nice basic world building, and it sets up for the overarching anti-capitalist messages in the movie. i immediately assume gerty is going to be a "rip off" of hal, but their characters are different. its clear respectful inspiration as many sci fi does without it being a rip off, i think. i of course really liked gerty and his role in the movie, and he played off sam well. sam though, a great progatonist with a mind we immediately want to understand. i will be real, with the hallucinations sam experiences at first, i was almost expecting this to be a sci fi horror, and that the "clone" was also going to be in sam's mind, and it was going to be an exploration of his sanity from being isolated for so long. i was actually a bit surprised when he really was a clone! really good storytelling, even if a bit confusing (what was up with the creepy woman he hallucinated at the beginning? was that a set up?). however, i really like the route they took with sam and his clone. it forced the new sam to look inside himself and come to terms with his anger issues, and it is interesting as the viewer to see how sam was back then before being on the moon for "three years" and what it did to him. i really like the metaphors this movie had going for it- that giant corporations see workers as disposable clones, and also the literal sense of having to cooperate with your own thoughts and emotions even when theyre violent and scary, and irrational, but also to be accepting of your sensitive side and realize its okay to ask for help. it was really moving what sam had to do with the original sam at the end. it made me feel a way, as someone with self esteem issues, to watch a man gently carry a clone of himself dead all while he watched him slowly get worse after he saved him. really beautifully done movie. definitely worth the watch for any scifi fan. while 2001 a space odyssey makes you think about the universe and what it all means, moon makes you think about yourself, and your specific place in the universe, and to be gentle to yourself.

Seen from the cockpit, insane video shows moment that Russian Su-25 jet is hit and pilot ejects

Images of a camera on the helmet show the moment when a Russian pilot ejected from his Su-25M fighter jet at a low level over Ukraine, floating into the land with a parachute before his jet flew out of control towards a field and exploded.

The missile probably hit part of the vertical stabilizer, which caused the aircraft to lose control during the curve and begin to collapse.

The pilot grumbles after making a forced landing on the field, barely surviving the opening of the parachute.

The Sukhoi Su-25 attack jet was flying over the landscape at the height of the treetops, about 200 feet away. The footage, which was originally sent to a Russian military Telegram channel and then shared on various social networks.

The journalist specialized in defense in Asia, Mike Yeo, seems to have identified the aircraft and its unit, the Su-25 SM3 "Red 09" of the Aviation Regiment 18:

Pilots on both sides of Ukraine usually fly dangerously near the ground, making them invisible to enemy radar systems that are usually configured to detect targets in higher flight.

The high-risk low flight gives enemy forces on the ground only a few seconds to react to enemy jets, but also leaves aircraft vulnerable to gunshots and shoulder-thrown anti-aircraft missiles (MANPADs).

The Su-25 is a robust jet designed exclusively to attack troops and tanks on the ground and is full of rockets and bombs. Slower than supersonic bomber fighters, it is armored to compensate for what it lacks in speed. The pilot sits in an armored "bathtub" for protection against ground fire.

It was not clear whether the pilot of this jet was protected from shrapnel after his aircraft was hit, but his quick reflexes undoubtedly saved his life.

Russia suffered another confirmed aviation loss on Sunday, when a combat plane collided with a residential building near the Siberian city of Irkutsk. There were no immediate reports of victims on the ground. The pilots would have died in the fall of the jet.

In Feb. 1978, Hal Ashby’s streak of gems continued with this war movie (or anti-war depending on how you look at it) about a love triangle between a paraplegic Vietnam vet (Jon Voight), a volunteer at the VA hospital (Jane Fonda) and her marine husband (Bruce Dern). I’d rank this up there with Best Years of Our Lives among the best movies about vets returning from war to civilian life. Ashby had so much to say and the cast was all at the top of their game. Happy 45th Coming Home!

Feb. 22, 1998: Ray of Light released

In Feb. 1998, Madonna’s 7th studio album was released. There’s different stages of Madonna as she has always reinvented herself, but this was her greatest album IMHO. After having her first child, much of this album reflects that, realizing a change in her outlook, and a newfound spiritualism too. She’s always played with dance music, but here she went for electronic and techno even moreso. It’s got some really impressive songs that still hold up. Happy 25th ROL!

Feb. 25, 1973: Billion Dollar Babies released

In Feb. 1973, the 6th album from Alice Cooper was released. This stands as one of my favorites. I was at a record convention when I picked up the rare vinyl that included the dollar bill poster inside. So many gems on this album. It’s one of my favorites from Alice! Happy 50th BDB!

Feb. 26, 1993: El Mariachi opens

In Feb. 1993 after some film festival screenings, Robert Rodriguez’s feature film debut opened theatrically. He made this film for $7,000 and it ended up grossing over $1 million. It also began his Mexico trilogy, followed by Desperado and Once Upon a Time in Mexico. Along with low-budget indies from that era like Slacker, Clerks and Brothers McMullen, this was a highly influential film for me. Rodriguez’s book Rebel Without a Crew about the making of this film, was also quite inspirational. But the film itself is very action oriented and fast moving to the point where the viewer isn’t even paying attention to the budget or the lack of movie stars. You’re just sucked into this Western and the mysterious guitar case. Rodriguez has made some great films since then (From Dusk Till Dawn and Planet Terror for example), but this one was one of those “I can do this too” moments for me as a filmmaker. Happy 30th El Mariachi!

what would the other riverdale characters' heaven be if they had died in the plague of the first borns?

the show picked the easier characters to construct heaven for. polly died after a miserable destitute single motherhood so her heaven would obviously be being mistress of a thriving thornhill with five babies. jughead suffered childhood food insecurity and career failure plus all his childhood intimate relationships betrayed him without exception so his heaven is as a successful aroace writer permanently residing in his favorite diner. we saw alice’s heaven when polly died - her three kids stepford-perfect while crowding ecstatically next to her as she plays mozart on the piano in a world where hal doesn't exist. kevin's heaven was shown in Vale to be as a Broadway star with Fangs as his manager boyfriend subservient.

but what is Veronica’s heaven? Betty's? Reggie’s? Cheryl’s? Tabitha’s?

Riverdale S6 E2 (Rivervale Ch 2)

Happy New Year (this is being drafted Wk 1,  2022).  My ‘reading’ Rivervale as a fanfic of Riverdale continues!

Alternate Universes that fic writers come up with can be completely hypnotizing if you the reader are on the same wavelength. By the same token, fanfic using alternative universes can be utterly alienating if it’s not a thing you’re into.  For this installment, I must say that I was on the Read, Regret and Move On side of the dividing line for this AU that is Rivervale. Horror is not a favorite genre and because I find the myth of La Llorona as presented here kind of retrograde and boring. But! As a deliberate exploration of misogynist tropes that bind women characters in fiction this installment was very fascinating to analyze.

Hello people I am back. Spoilers and gratuitous longing for Sweet Pea follow. 

A bomb blew up the Andrews house to smithereens but the Cooper house is completely unscathed.  I don’t know why that strikes me as less creepy than the fact that Alice Cooper is wearing her hair exactly like her surviving daughter’s.

Riverdale Episode 6.5 (Rivervale Finale)

In the final chapter of this fanfic-within-the-canon that has been the ride through Rivervale, there’s a truly Herculian effort to resolve the in-AU storylines that have received varying levels of development, and an attempt to tie it all back to Riverdale, to which we will return. And a lot of it is very witty and so much of this episode encapsulates what I so love about Riverdale the show as a piece of entertainment.

Elizabeth Cooper was born as the second set of triplets to Alice and Hal Cooper. She wasn’t rebellious or problematic as a child or teen, so she was often overlooked at school.

The way she dressed, liking singing and tennis and roller skating and jumprope, the way she acted and spoke, and the way she didn’t stick out classified her as a girl next door. She has lived with anxiety and trouble dealing with stress her whole life, but that fact never left the family. There were a lot of tears at home about nothing but what was in her own head. She didn’t cry in front of her family often, and when she did it was because she couldn’t hold things in any longer. But no one outside her family and best friends was aware of any of it.

She always had her opinions, but she never pulled anyone’s hair about it, which put her above others her age. She did punch someone in middle school, but she maintains that it was justified. Even on into high school, she got very good grades, and participated in cheerleading, tennis, yearbook committee, musicals, and the school paper.

Her articles were infamous- able to get people about 80% sure who she was writing about, and the 20% was done on purpose for plausible deniability. She exposed everything from the behind-the-scenes of school lunches, to the things teachers said behind student’s backs, to how the school district was spending their funds, to when people were cheating in relationships.. though with that last one, she tended not to write about cheaters in favor of observing it out of curiosity. She received threats after a piece that got a wide receiver kicked from the football team, and she found it thrilling that people found her worth their time. She went to college for journalism with minors in psychology and criminology, taking jobs wherever she could find them. She soon sent a submission to the FBI, and worked undercover for them as an independent contractor. She wasn’t ever undercover long term, but it was very enriching for her, and it gave her some spending money.

After graduation, she got an influx of freelance jobs, sending her on a loop. She’d travel somewhere, put herself in a position to find things out, stay for 3-10 months, then repeat. She dated off and on from high school on up, but they were nothing serious. She had a photographer that traveled, and she’d meet up with him whenever they were near each other. She also met a woman while traveling that she to this day doesn’t know what her official relationship with her was, but she knew that it had ended. She’s done some stuff with girls before, but most of her experience is with men. She knows she enjoys role play situations as well as temperature play, but other than that she’s open to finding more things to like.   Her main goal is to settle into the academy life for as long as it takes to get a claim, and she also hopes to have a relationship with her sister Violet and her Blossom cousins while they’ll all be at the same place. She’s close with her siblings and her cousins, and while she’s not happy that her sister is a slave, she still loves her, and can’t understand how her parents can just seem to hit unsubscribe on love for their daughter. She’s heartbroken about her big sister becoming a slave, but she hopes to be able to be a rock for her. She plans not to go into a shpiel on the injustices of slavery, and hopes that will last. Intuitively, she’s sure it will not. But despite being a journalist, she always was very reliable and trustworthy with secrets, so she does have reasonable hope to continue her relationship with Violet as well as make many more.

BIO QUESTIONS:

What are your feelings about the mark you have received?

I think the switch mark fits me very well. I have no idea what I want, and this mark will let me explore enough to figure it out.

How do your feelings on the system compare to your parents’ feelings on it?

My parents and I have similar views on the system, though we don’t talk about slavery much because my views on it differ from theirs. They were surprised that I still want my slave sister in my life- I have no idea what was surprising about it. I guess they expected me to conform when it came down to it, but that’s my sister.

Where do you see yourself after you graduate?

After I graduate, I’ll hopefully be with someone I love and respect, and who shares my hunger for some action and excitement alongside some relatively normal and calm existence. Also someone who will let me keep in touch with my family, because they’re important to me.

How do you feel about authority?

It has a purpose, but that purpose is often not fulfilled because they’re busy being corrupt and just generally not having the best for whoever they’re in charge of in mind.

She went to college for journalism with minors in psychology and criminology, taking jobs wherever she could find them. She soon sent a submission to the FBI, and worked undercover for them as an independent contractor. She wasn’t ever undercover long term, but it was very enriching for her, and it gave her some spending money.

After graduation, she got an influx of freelance jobs, sending her on a loop. She’d travel somewhere, put herself in a position to find things out, stay for 3-10 months, then repeat. She dated off and on from high school on up, but they were nothing serious. She had a photographer that traveled, and she’d meet up with him whenever they were near each other. She also met a woman while traveling that she to this day doesn’t know what her official relationship with her was, but she knew that it had ended. She’s done some stuff with girls before, but most of her experience is with men. She knows she enjoys role play situations as well as temperature play, but other than that she’s open to finding more things to like.

Her main goal is to settle into the academy life for as long as it takes to get a claim, and she also hopes to have a relationship with her sister Violet and her Blossom cousins while they’ll all be at the same place. She’s close with her siblings and her cousins, and while she’s not happy that her sister is a slave, she still loves her, and can’t understand how her parents can just seem to hit unsubscribe on love for their daughter. She’s heartbroken about her big sister becoming a slave, but she hopes to be able to be a rock for her. She plans not to go into a shpiel on the injustices of slavery, and hopes that will last. Intuitively, she’s sure it will not. But despite being a journalist, she always was very reliable and trustworthy with secrets, so she does have reasonable hope to continue her relationship with Violet as well as make many more.

BIO QUESTIONS 

What are your feelings about the mark you have received? 

- I think the switch mark fits me very well. I have no idea what I want, and this mark will let me explore enough to figure it out.

How do your feelings on the system compare to your parents’ feelings on it?

Where do you see yourself after you graduate?  

- My parents and I have similar views on the system, though we don’t talk about slavery much because my views on it differ from theirs. They were surprised that I still want my slave sister in my life- I have no idea what was surprising about it. I guess they expected me to conform when it came down to it, but that’s my sister. After I graduate, I’ll hopefully be with someone I love and respect, and who shares my hunger for some action and excitement alongside some relatively normal and calm existence. Also someone who will let me keep in touch with my family, because they’re important to me.

How do you feel about authority?

- It has a purpose, but that purpose is often not fulfilled because they’re busy being corrupt and just generally not having the best for whoever they’re in charge of in mind.

NO NUANCE NOVEMBER - RIVERDALE EDITION

Archie is a horrible main character. He has no valuable plot line. Other than that he is just a shitty character in general. He cheats on his girlfriend, puts his family, friends and teens in danger because of a hero complex, betrayed his father and best friend to work with an actual mobster...

In fact, all the characters on this show are shitty. It's just that some are shittier than others and some are more redeemable than others.

Choni is a bad ship. The worst ship. They're rushed, toxic and would never work past high school IRL.

All the ships on this show suck safe for Veggie.

Reggie is an underrated character and deserves an actual storyline.

Barchie is a horrible ship with no real chemistry and it clearly died before it even started in s1.

Veronica Cecilia Lodge deserves her own damn storyline that isn't linked to her father, her boyfriend or some stupid business.

Dilton Doiley's death was unnecessary. The writers just wanted to kill off a well-known character but not a main. I will never get over his death.

Cheryl Blossom is an AWFUL character. She's entitled, an elitist, a bully, nasty for no reason, abusive towards her girlfriend and generally a nuisance. Being a lesbian and having a traumatic past doesn't give her the right to act this way. It's a reason, not an excuse.

Toni Topaz was her best self in s2. Period. Everything about her was ruined when she got with Cheryl. It's a damn shame because Madelaine and Vanessa have such good chemistry and the couple could have been awesome. Also, Toni could have gone places.

The writers ruined Kevin and Fangs when they had them involved in that fucking tickle porn plot.

All the parents on this show, safe for Fred and Tom, suck ass.

Nana Rose is not a fucking saint. She adopted Penelope just to groom her to marry her son and treated her horribly.

Penelope Blossom and Hiram Lodge should have gotten arrested and locked up in like s3. Period. Penelope killed kids and Hiram...well, you know why. I like Mark and Nathalie as much as the next girl but they're characters stopped being interesting long ago, if they even were to begin with.

Bughead was cute in s1 but they should have split in s2 for good.

Jughead should have never joined the Serpents. It's clearly not something he ever wanted, considering the Serpents ruined his family, and he should have continued writing instead.

The concept of teens being made Kings and Queens of gangs is so annoying to me. Like an IRL gang would ever put a 16 year old in charge, even if he is legacy.

This show has an ensemble cast and should use it. It's annoying watching the core four have their own boring/annoying major plotlines and then sprinkle in some weird shit for Reggie, Toni, Kevin and Cheryl that makes no sense and is cringy/uncomfortable to watch.

Notice how all the POC/LGBTQ characters get the worst storylines/unnecessarily killed off? What's that about? Stop it. This literally starts with Veronica.

S4 was the worst season of this show. Yes, s3 was batshit insane but at least it some semblance of a main plot. In s4 everything was related to Jug and everything else was confusing/boring/frustrating.

PLEASE stop giving us weird incest plots. We do NOT need to see this in 2020. Or ever.

Hal is the BEST dad in riverdale. And Alice is by far the worst

asdflaksjdflk I'm assuming that first part is sarcasm because Hal is t r a s h, and I'm glad Penelope killed him, good for her. Agreed that Alice is the worst mother though. God, I miss when she was just mean all the time and not some ~tragic~ figure, but I also think she's been neutered a bit by having all the other parents except Hiram leave. Like, there's no one for her to really be vicious to, and that's a real shame. The best Alice was season 1 Alice when she verbally fought like every other parent on the show at least once and it was amazing. Whenever you think she's going to hold her tongue, she's actually just gearing up to go into full bitch mode, and I am delighted every time. Now she's just kind of...around, and it's a waste of Alice, tbh. She should be making more of a nuisance of herself somehow, but alas.

The Belarusian Ministry of Defense has confirmed that the military forces of Belarus and Russia are prepared to perform a series of royal shooting exercises.

Citing a report by the Russian news agency Interfax, Reuters stated that the bilateral exercises will be held as part of a joint grouping pact between the two countries.

The participating forces will also carry out several “anti-aircraft guided missile launch” during the exercises, which will take place in Belarus, a close ally of Russia that extended political and logistical support to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Interfax cited an undisclosed defense officer from Minsk saying: “The military units of the formations are planned to be deployed in four training camps in the Republic of Belarus in the eastern and central part of the country, after which they will begin to carry out combat training activities.”

The new agency noted that the Belarusian Ministry of Defense said that Russian military troops will be deployed in Belarus from a "new regional grouping".

Last month, Belarus participated in the exercise of strategic command post of the Russian military Vostok 2022, which involved the participation of about 50,000 people, 140 aircraft, 60 naval vessels and more than 5,000 weapons and equipment.

The last iteration of the exercise aimed to improve the skills of the participating forces and commanders to strengthen interoperability between coalition troops to safeguard common interests and strengthen military security in the eastern region.

The exercise was held in the Eastern Military District of Russia from August 30 to September 5.

In addition to Belarus, the Vostok joint military exercise involved the participation of forces from India, Mongolia, China and Tajikistan.
