you know what??? life is meaningless, so I'm gonna go out there and have a good time! no matter what I do, there will be people who don't like me, so I might as well speak my mind!! basically everybody is a little bit sad a lot of the time and there's nothing I can do to end all that suffering, so I might as well be kind for the sake of being kind! any accomplishment I can conceivably acheive will mean nothing when the sun sets on all of humanity, so there isn't any pressure to be great beyond this moment! every moment has the exact same level of intrinsic importance, which is none at all, so I might as well enjoy these shapes and colors while I have this time on earth, this precious moment on the most interesting place in the galaxy.

today I have decided that I will love again instead of living in a hole of my own self loathing. today I will look at the sky and be grateful for everything good that has happened to me instead of resentful for everything bad. today I will heal.

Just had a philosophical conversation with some friends about the saying “I’m just an ape on a rock floating in space” because my friend found it nihilistic. And yeah, you can. But I interpret it as being REALLY FUCKING COOL! Like, we are nothing but silly atoms and chemical reactions on a big rock but I still have the ability to see sunsets!!! And my sisters send me photos of our pet cats on little boxes of light and rare metals! And I get to smell hot drinks brewed with the dryed leaves of plants I’ve never seen before!!

We’re weird hairless apes that have established rules for interaction! And modes of speaking! And dressing in ways that are interpreted differently based on your own upbringing. And I choose differently based on where I’m going and what time of year. I get to choose how I adorn my physical body!

Millions of years of random evolution has led to a ME! I’m a me! And I share this planet with billions of other mes! There’s beauty and hope in the seeming “meaninglessness”. Just because we created all of the rules that feel so normal to us does not make them “worthless” as my friend proposed. Just because nothing is “true” doesn’t make it meaningless. I think it adds more meaning actually, that this is all stuff we made! That’s exciting and scary and hard to think about. But it’s what makes life special!

Nothing is real! It’s all fake! I can listen to the music I want and dance in my room and stare at sunsets and pretty birds and the way that squirrels get fat in winter! I get to read books and stain my hands with ink as I draw shitty things just to make me smile. I get to make meaning WITH people on this planet and it can be literally anything. I get to make meaningful moments with my friends! I can make everything good because it’s all in my head actually.

Even when my heart hurts in my chest so much I want to cry, I can still FEEL! I tried to not feel for so long but being a husk doesn’t feel very human to me. So I get to feel happiness and sadness and everything in between and it makes the world nuanced and beautiful!! It’s sublime!

I’m really trying to do all the work, heal my trauma, love myself, overcome my anxiety because I want to live, and I want to live good, but please someone tell me, how do you actually make yourself believe, down in your core, all the things you’re telling yourself???? If I sleep in too late the sun shines into my eyes through the window in my room facing east. If I stay up too late the moon shines in my eyes through my window facing south.

I’m not mad about either, I actually think both are quite beautiful.
