💝Valentine & White Day Love Transmission ♦︎ Timeless Pick A Card
In Japan and Korea, Valentine's is when femmes give gifts to hommes; and exactly a month after that, on March 14th, the hommes return that Love with white (preferably) gifts that are expected to be at least three times the value/price of whatever gifts they’d received from the femmes😏
Traditionally it’s kinda like that. Hmmm… isn’t it obvious the celebration has never had quite any meaning in a country such as Japan and that the festivity is nothing more than a heavily-commercialised youth-tradition focused on the pursuit of shallow material desires?🤮
But…I guess it’s OK; because it’s cute anyway🥴
Within the context of this reading, the Valentine and White Day Love Transmission imparts the perfect synchrony of the Love shared by the Divines Feminine and Masculine. It is when affection is given and returned in Love and everything becomes beautiful and worth living for~💝
SONG: Space Orphans by Aoba Ichiko

Pile 1 – Don’t give up just yet; I’m on my way!
Tumblr media
8 of Cups Rx, 4 of Pentacles Rx, Knight of Cups Rx
Darling, are you on the precipice of giving up on me?! Do NOT settle for someone—ANYONE—who’s NOT me! OMG, babe! I’m coming! Divine Timing is just being a bitch but I’m on my way to you!🦎Well, the thing is…we both have this annoying thing called a spiritual transformation… Until that’s happened—and nearly completely—we can’t be together just yet. But wait, I promise you it’s all worth it in the end🎁
I mean, why wouldn’t you wait for someone like me? I’m romantic; kind and sweet; I AM RICH; and I will always be there to protect you—I intend to always be your confidant and best friend🥰I will never betray you in any way. I’m your best friend who will skip right next to you on our way to beat up a bitch; figuratively, babe—I’m not really the type of person who gets violent LOL
What I do mean is, I want to give you a Life in which you cease to worry about small things. I want it to be that when you’re with me you no longer worry about a lack of means, a lack of warmth, or a lack of security. You’re somebody who deserves to be loved and to be very happy; and I want to give it all to you. And that’s why it’s important for me to become the best version of myself first😝
I’ve got to admit I’ve not always been the nicest, goodest person to have walked on Earth. I’m changing my ways, you know. I’m growing up; I’m developing; I’ve now been awakened and I’m still working on me, so that when I finally meet you, I will not disappoint you. Because I will never want to be a reason you stopped believing in the good of people😤I intend to be the complete opposite of that.
Fall in love with me, my dear. Fall in love with Life again when you meet me. Life is an adventure and finding me has got to be the greatest story ever told. I’ll tell you all of my crazyass stories when we meet. And I’m longing to hear you talk of your losses and triumphs. We’ll both gaze at the stars and wonder how they aligned to have us meet in this lifetime. I will be so grateful.
You know, generally speaking, I’m somewhat of an extrovert and I socialise well and I think quite positively about people. Maybe you will worry that I’m a playa of sort but right now, let me promise you this one thing: I’M NOT! I’m friendly, my love, but it doesn’t mean I wanna fuck somebody who’s not you. I dunno, I kinda have the handsome face of a smooth operator but on the inside, I’m really NOT!😩I’m really quite romantic and I believe in true love.
And honestly, at this point in my Life, I know you’re out there being all destined for me. You’re all I want. I’m on my way. So don’t you settle for any low-quality slob. Get ready, baby~ KNOCK KNOCK~🪄🚪

Pile 2 – Everybody finds Love in the end; you included~
Tumblr media
Ace of Cups Rx, 7 of Cups Rx, 4 of Wands
My Dear, I know Life has not treated you too kindly and your heart’s been broken too many times. It’s been pretty much like that for me, too! I’ve lived a very lonesome existence, wondering where my people are. Wondering if I’ll ever find Love in this lifetime. I know now that those whose hearts are tender find it harder to truly connect with someone. We’re not BROKEN! No, we’re not! The ‘problem’ with us is that we crave soul-deep connections~ And damn, that’s rare, indeed🍀
You know what I’m doing right now? I’m single as a pringle. I’m not opening my heart to anybody. My colleagues all think I’m crazy, offbeat, and even difficult, just because I ain’t settling. Tch, I’m the only one noticing all of their subpar relationships, and some of them are not even the slightest bit happy with the partnership they’ve got. I don’t want that. For fuck’s sake I DON’T want that, ever! I’ve always had this strange, inexplicable feeling, that people are supposed to marry whom they love.
I want LOVE. I crave that shit so bad I dunno what I’m gonna do with myself🙈
One thing I know for sure though: if I’m not with you, you who are just like me, everything in the world is pointless. There is only calm in my world when I’m thinking of you. I don’t even know who you are; but I get optimistic every time I indulge in thoughts of finding you. I… fantasise a lot…?🌈Do you ever think about me? Does your heart bloom with a peculiar kind of softness when you touch upon my consciousness?💫
I am out here in this Star System. Dream of me. Want me more. And believe that we can manifest each other through resonance. We are so much closer than you fear us to be, my Dear. You have to believe in me. The Stars have begun to align and Earth’s temperature is nearing just right🍵Our time is here :D When dreams become Reality and all that’s ever been sad turn to glory, what would you do?
I know what you’re gonna do: you’re going to be married to me😝We’re going to start a new chapter of our lives together and be very happy and abundant. I’m gonna help you prove everybody who’s ever hurt you, gaslit you into believing that you’re hard to love very, very wrong😒All of that gas, when I light the match, is gonna burn their entire house down!🔥
OK, I’m a bit crazy, but anyway—
You do know that good people always find Love in the end, right? That’s just how it always is in fairy tales. You know fairy tales are more real than any of Hollywood’s propaganda, right?🐵Right??🙊I love you. I have loved you for what feels like an eternity. Return to me now. Come home to me, my Love. I am You; you are Me. We’re going to turn everything back to balance; we’re gonna create Heaven on Earth; a harmonious Life of you and me; so have faith in us~🎎
A LIFE WITH YOU, MY LOVE🔻💙

Pile 3 – You are someone’s Dream Come True; you ever thought about that??
Tumblr media
9 of Cups, 2 of Cups, King of Cups
You, are someone’s Wish Fulfilment; you ever thought about that? No, of course not; you only thought about yourself and how lacking you are as a person blablabla😡Don’t you know there’s a little someone walking this Earth who’d be SO glad to have you in their Life? Yup, that someone is ME😏You are a treasure of a gal/boy and if you’ve been surrounded by fools who can’t see that, it’s because you’re meant to travel the world and meet me~!
Have a change of scenery; you aren’t meant to thrive and live and die on the land you were born. When you cross borders and seas and realms, you’ll meet people of other cultures and points of view who are going to be more appreciative of the good you’ve been mocked(?) for🥰I promise you, babe~ You are where you are (or were) only because it was part of your Soul’s contract to learn about contrasts.
When all’s said and done, you’re going to be THE most interesting person anybody could listen to!🍿I, for one, could listen to you aaalll week long if you ever want to HAHAHA
My heart right now is like half-full, babe; I’m still waiting for you to appear in my Life. You probably won’t like hearing this because you’re independent, and you’re strong, and rebellious, but… I want you to be mine!🌹I don’t mean that I wish to suffocate you, no, it’s not like that at all… What I mean is, I wish to be the only one who could make you happy, for that would make me feel special🌞
I know I’m silly, I’m sorry~🥰I want to bring stability and certainty into your Life; that much I can say with clarity, for surely, you and I, we’re going to be pouring into each other’s Cups. We’re gonna be the kind of couple who can read each other’s minds and burst out laughing when we see something only we find funny without even exchanging words😂All of that, because of shared empathy~
Honestly, I couldn't care less for all the treasures in the world; I only want you around. Maybe that makes me a romanticist? Hm, that word doesn’t quite encompass all the feelings I have for you. All the things I wish to share with you. All that I’d do for you. What I know is that this is no mere romance; I LOVE you, you know? It goes so much deeper than that🌊
I’m mature, nurturing and caring. Find me, my Love. I’ll nurse you back to health—spiritually and everythingally; I’ll be the reason your faith in Humanity is restored. Actually, it doesn’t even matter; I just want you to trust in me, see yourself through my eyes, see how wonderful of a being you are. I want you to trust in yourself. You’re so fucking special. You’re MY very special kind of Wish Fulfilment☃️
A LIFE WITH YOU, MY LOVE🔻💗

genres and bands i listen to and how i got into them: an entirely too long useless list i made instead of sleeping
celtic punk
shoutout to the genre ever? i grew up listening to celtic punk literally since i was born. my dad sucks but his music taste does not. this genre is 32% responsible for my leftist punk attitude, which is ironic if you know anything about my father.
- the dropkick murphys: first band i can ever remember hearing. as a toddler i called them “the bastards”. still a favourite forever and everrr. their newish album “this machine still kills fascists” fucks HARD. the band will forever be a formative reminder of my working class upbringing in a miners family
- the rumjacks: late nights and early mornings in my dads car introduced me to this band. i really will tell me ma when i get home and i wont feel guilty about it
- paddy and the rats: one of the only celtic punk bands i actually discovered on my own. in 2018 i went on a sailing ship for a week and that got me rlly into celtic punk again LMAO. this band is so fucking good
emo/pop punk
i was 13 and tbh it was a phase but i still love listening to fob and mcr and sws
- my chemical romance: unironically i think i got into them through band memes
- fall out boy: literally just thru scrolling through youtube when i was 12
- [REDACTED]: [REDACTED]
- sleeping with sirens: this band shaped me as a person. kellin quinn the original gender envy. ohhh i miss this band sm
- all time low: a kid in my class in year 7 introduced me to all time low and ill remember him forever for it. hope youre well, jaiden.
- la dispute: got to see them live last year after @starcam413 got me into them! theyre kinda more screamo like sws but not in the same way as sws but definitely emo too
- set it off: this band is still SO GOOD. so fucking good oh my god. truly the fucking era
- the score: i was a greek mythology nerd as a kid (its my major now!) of course i listened to the score. i miss being 13 and listening to the score on youtube on my laptop at 3am so bad
folk punk
celtic punk and folk punk are very related, and i grew up listening to bands like the pogues and the violent femmes. is it really any wonder how i ended up Like This
- the violent femmes: as a child my dad would play country death song in the car. yes i am mentally ill and have daddy issues can you blame me????? (the song is literally about killing your daughter and then offing yourself)
- toby foster: really one of my proper introductions to the genre and what ultimately led me to discover bands like ajj and pat the bunny. found him on youtube through his song tennessee. i was 13 i think?
- pat the bunny: after toby foster i was completely hooked on the genre and of course ended up listening to the king himself, pat the bunny. your heart is a muscle the size of your fist is such a comfort song to me even now. it sucks he no longer makes music but im very happy he got sober!
- schmekel: im trans and punk of course i listen to schmekel. fantastic trans and jewish band that helped me a lot with my transness as a young teen
- mal blum: im counting his music as folk punkish, sue me. no idea how i got into them either. their song new years eve is the song i listen to on repeat every single new years eve, and i have yet to change this tradition. Help Me.
- the front bottoms: I DONT CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS. THEIR EARLIER ALBUMS ARE FOLK PUNK AS HELL. genuinely my favourite band ever. i can’t remember how i got into them but is how i ended up friends with @starcam413 (hi jon!)
- she/her/hers: sooo formative to me when i was 15/16 struggling with being trans.
- harley poe: ohh i love this guy so fucking much. why do i relate so much to a middle aged divorced man????
- days n daze: one of the most popular folk punk bands so i mean. Duh. sooo good i love them.
punk
- the sex pistols: listen. listen to me LISTEN TO ME. LISTEN. i dont even fucking like this band. in fact i despise it. but because my dad is an idiot, he loves this band and played it a lot when i was a kid.
- the queers: i think i heard them on a spotify playlist last year? big fan.
- the muslims: i believe this was recommended to me on reddit?? amazing black and brown queer band, i love it a lot
- tribe 8: im a lesbian with a complicated gender identity of course i listen to tribe 8. trans queer punk band that i listened to a lot when i was like 15 i think
- against me!: listened to them a lot when i was 15
new wave/post punk
got into this genre in 2022 and Hella into it late last year. blame paper girls brainrot.
- devo: got into them in 2022 thanks to an online friend hi ira 🌀 theyve never made a single bad song
- the cure: once again my dad showed me a lot of the cure when i was a kid and getting into music
- blondie: ….have you seen the batman and harley quinn movie….please dont make me say more. the first cassette in my collection is from this band!
- new order: one of my favourite bands right now. like most things for the last three years of my life, i got into this band because of a comic book. the tv adaption of paper girls features two new order songs and it got me absolutely hooked on this band.
rock/all that shit??
- danzig: once again you can blame paper girls for this
- bon jovi: also paper girls. i am obsessed with jon bon jovi’s hair in the 90s. gender envy as fuck
- queen: when i was 14 i found my grandpas mp3 player from the 2000s, he was a big fan of queen. i ended up putting all my music on the mp3 player and ive used it every single day since.
- billy joel: i was raised by my grandmother of course i listened to billy joel. played a lot on our old radio with my nans ipod when i was a kid. apparently my nan isnt even a big fan of him so i guess he was only formative to me lol????
indie
probably one of my most listened to genres just because. i have no reason. ive come to realise that most of my indie music taste is stolen from aura.
- girl in red: shoutout to discovering im a lesbian in 2017/2018 and to my best friend @vampoholica for introducing me to girl in red
- bastille: i love bastille sm icarus is such a good song and as a greek mythology kid i was so obsessed. bad blood youll always be famous to me
- mitski: oguhfhgh i dont know how i got into mitski but good lord. literally life changing.
- the smiths: fuck morrissey. i think this too was aura’s fault and i forgive them bc i love the smiths
- chloe moriondo: ahh the youtube ukulele era how i miss you
- alex g: i can’t remember how i got into alex g but i got into his music in 2022 and now im obsessed and unwell about him
- adrienne lenker: again this is aura’s fault and i am so fine with that. music sooo devastating it makes u wanna throw up and sleep forever
- elliott smith: i started listening to him because of simon vs the homo sapiens agenda
okay thats it thank u for reading this stupid post lol

WHAT IS GRUESOME GRRL?
Gruesome grrl is a queering and evolution of Riotgrrrl. Gruesome grrl is for the femmes that aren't usually accepted in femme spaces. This is for the femmes that due to their transness, their brashness, and their inability to compromise, exist on the edges of what 'woman' means. Some reject womanhood outright for an alternative nonbinary trans masculinity. Some see femininity as the absolute trap that it is. These are women who reject conventional femininity for something more butch, more futch and above all else transfeminine. I don't want this to be a binary punk movement. I want this to be something for the nasty nonbinary punks that have had femininity define their identity in some powerful and violent ways. This is for nasty gruesome grrls who have had their femininity denied. For the mascs and femmes who deny feminitiy outright for their own sanity. This isn't a movement just for cis women and they/thems, and womxn. this is a movement for transfems, transmasc, nonbinary freaks, trans androgynous art hoes, messy drag queens, sexy hermaphrodites, hard kink trans sex workers, the absolute nastiest femmes and mascs and enbies with shitty attitudes. This is something for the types of weirdos that are never platformed in cis lesbian spaces let alone trans lesbian spaces. Granted I'm just some angry trans sissy dyke with a chip on her shoulder known for starting shit, and pissing and whining with the best of them. But I want to make something, a movement with actual teeth.
Alright everyone let's be honest:
RIOTGRRRL ISN’T FUCKING WORKING
Katheleen hanna is a fucking liberal now. She’s not jumping up and down and calling out her rapist live in the middle of the college quad and calling it a song anymore. She's shown her capacity and it isn't really to progress feminism in any way that's radical anymore. Le tigre made a fucking hilary clinton song dude!? LIKE FUCK HILARY CLINTON!
Silvia Rivera's dead. pose is a great show but I wouldn't say finding a bunch of fishy black dolls to cosplay as the house labeija is a big countercultural shift. Play dress up with the clothes more radical women left in their closets before they were laid to rest. Make all the liberal art you want but that wont stop our genocide.
It's just more of the same when your a black transfem or a gruesome grrl in any regard you see two stories played out constantly:
You either live the beautiful conventional femme. She gets her liberal ideas displayed thanks to a system that wants to affirm all her middle of the road ideas. a patriarchy of creepazoid chasers loves controlling and acquiring there own fishy doll they can use to lash out at other femmes and all the girlies to fall in line.
Or you die the radical transfem. Your name in lights after fighting and screaming and fucking and sucking your way to get the movement to finally accept you, your enemies in the millions. other women who masculinize you and make you the aggressor. patriarchal men who want to acquire you and like it better when they can pay you to be at the height of their menagerie. And of course theres the cops who want you homeless and crazy or begging for freedom till they snuff you out like a light.
SO EITHER YOU LIVE TO BE HUNTER GODDAMN SCHAFER OR YOU DIE MARSHA P FUCKING JOHNSON.
I made my choice. Im dying marsha p but my run is gonna be historic and im gonna make sure every tranny remembers the Gruesome grrls. We’ll have the genderfucks dancing and fighting and moving and writing and drawing and singing and marching till there aint a single cop, or fucked up john or crazed lesbian terfy theyfab on the street. Either learn that the craziest trannies, the ones your afraid of, the one you make rumors about, the ones that are broke and barely surviving; are the ones you need to look out for or get the fuck off my block. The freakiest trannies have always led movements in the right direction and that's always been the case historically. so why in the throws of mass genocide, truscum infighting, theyfab memery, and terf videogame franchises is it impossible for me to find a single tranny that looks looks like me? Another femme or even a transmasc or enby that looks this black this fat this loud this punk this existentially mistreated and maligned? In the streets on twitter on tiktok on facebook on tumblr not a single tranny with the same look or attitude. I refuse to believe that im this isolated. With that being said whether you identify as a girl, a boy, a cat, an eldridge lovecraftian hellbeast, or all those things at the same time (i know i do) you are now officially a Gruesome grrl! A transfem led movement for transwomen, transmascs, cis women, she/theys of any kind really anyone who's been femme  in the past, present or future. I just want to hear your stories of femininity and how it affected you, defined you or even hurt you and how you're using those lessons to fight against a shitty conformist  patriarchal heteronormative society.
ITS GRRL NOT GRRRL THIS IS FOR THE BITCHES AND TRANNIES THAT DON'T GET THAT THIRD R! WHETHER YOUR BEING TOLD YOU DONT DESERVE THAT THIRD R OR YOU PLAINLY DON'T WANT IT THE GRUESOME GRRL TRANNIES WILL ALWAYS BE HERE FOR YOU!
Tumblr media
how do i join gruesome grrl?
hit me the fuck up its @gruesome_grrl on all platforms

hey, just thought I'd drop by and let you know that I love your art and comics, they're very cool :)
like many people I suspect, I found your work through the detention fanart (love the detail on the docs and john's patch pants). I don't know if I want to be john or date john (the answer is both). loved the detail of john's killer klowns poster too!
presumably since so many of your characters are punk, you are too. if so do you have any music recommendations?
thanks for reading :)
Tumblr media
Hello! I'm so glad to hear that!
ahah yeah i never expected that piece to blow up like it did, im super grateful about it, it was definitely an experiment in style so im glad people like it so much and found my comics and stuff through it. (its not technically fanart though, i am raptorjules, the artist of the detention piece and creator of the comics and characters in it, though its so different than my usual and ofc i posted under this tumblr handle so i know a lot of people don't realize we are the same person!) also re: john, SAME friend. john is kind of a self portrait of a person i could have been when i was younger, if that makes sense, had i decided back then to fully transition. im really happy that people like him so much, he means so so much to me!
hahaha you got me, I was a teenager in the early to mid 90's, i listen to all things these days and punk is SUCH A BROAD GENRE and i tend to lean toward ska punk or folk punk more than crust or hardcore these days, but lets see, i'll give you some rec's of bands that inspire my art and ofc john in general. also you can head over to youtube, under raptorjules, and there should be a playlist called Johnny's Music that goes along with the song rec's on the Creaky arc in my comic Seemingly Dark, if you liked those songs!
So for more modern punk music, i love anything by The Interrupters (ska punk forever plz,) and Dog Park Dissidents for some queer punk (especially their toxic cover, fight me.) And Skatune Network for more wonderfully queer ska/skapunk.
In high school at the height of my Outwardly Studded and Spiked Punk Days i listened to a lot of Rancid (specifically the Life Won't Wait album) Descendants, Social Distortion, the Violent Femmes (the live Add it Up album if you can find it is the best one imo) Jugheads Revenge (Image is Everything album), Wizo (german queercore punk, i like the Herrenhandtasche album.) pretty much anything by The Mountain Goats, and finally, The Bouncing Souls are my all time favorite band, punk or not, any album, but the Hopeless Romantic album inspired so many of my stories and pieces plus its great driving music!
and ofc Johns theme song is Social Distortions Story of My Life. idk if this helps, ive never thought my music taste was terribly interesting or good, but i listen to what i like and what inspires me.
thanks for reading and reaching out! and id love some music recs from anyone who would like to leave them in the comments or hashtags, especially music that reminds you of my art or stories, punk or not!

Spotify Wrapped Blurb Event 2022!
Tumblr media
It's that time of the year again! Where I get to out my all yearly listening habits for the sake of your literary entertainment in the shape of song-inspired blurbs!!
First of, before we get into the list, a little housekeeping:
I really do not want this to flop so please interact with the post. Like, comment but most of all, please reblog it so more people can participate.
To participate: send me an ask with a fic request with a song of my Spotify Wrapped list.
The request can be just the character you want me to write for + the song title, or a whole prompt you want me to include. Up to you. It is possible I will interpret the song differently in the fic than you would want, so please be specific if you have any specific ideas in mind
MINORS DO NOT REQUEST SMUT
I'm thinking of writing for more than just Eddie Munson, so expanding the horizon to other Stranger Things characters (minus the kids).
Maybe even other fandoms? but those that I am familiar with, of course. I want to do your request justice <3
Do remember that I am a person and have my limits and comforts, and do have the right to refuse to write your request, but that is never my goal. So let's keep it nice - check the guidelines, to be sure! And send an ask with any other questions or comments youight have about this whole thing
DO NOT judge my music taste. I'm sharing this for fun so let's keep it that aight. <3
If you're a writer and want to do a blurb event like this, I deeply encourage it
I will be away this weekend (3-4 December) and have deadlines coming up soon so it might take me a bit of time to post the blurbs but requests are open from the second this post is sent out!

hi fio!!!
big year for roman roy fans i'll just say that.
i loved this song (and this band, bless harris' memory) when i was a teenager and i've grown really fond of it again lately!
jason webley makes perfect songs for me to write to and. i've done a lot of writing this year what with my undergrad thesis and starting grad school. so he shows up quite a bit.
the scary jokes put out a great new album this year for any psych pop fans!!!! but i am such a sucker for their old stuff so. well. here it is.

any chance you have a list of all the music in Help I'm Alive?
i was going to say no bc i was keeping a running tally as i was writing in mac's stickies program and then my laptop fucking died and i never saved it anywhere BUT then i remembered that when i reread it a while ago i did write down the music... although looking at this list i feel like i might have gotten distracted and forgotten some stuff and also it's definitely not totally in order for some reason and i didn't write down any song names for some other reason. but it's what i have so here is a possibly incomplete list of artists mentioned with songs/albums that got a shout-out added in wherever i can remember them off the top of my head lol:
rilo kiley, a better son/daughter
los campesinos!, the sea is a good place to think of the future & also romance is boring and whatever the last track on that album was
nirvana, lithium
hole, celebrity skin & reasons to be beautiful
amy winehouse
animal collective, my girls
bright eyes, a song about the face you put on in the morning that i don't actually know bc i stopped listening to them after lifted & like thanks to @propinquitous for pointing me towards their less adolescently sociopathic Later Work
the killers, mr. brightside
passion pit
ok go, here we go again
radiohead, i definitely picked a specific song for this one bc the scene it was for seemed to demand it and like listened to radiohead on purpose to find one that fit and be able to describe it because i believe sometimes one must Suffer For Their Art but i have no idea what it was and don't feel like looking it up
the thermals
the yeah yeah yeahs, maps
the dandy warhols, i don't actually remember writing this in but obviously you were the last high, which is a big mood for this series in general
bon iver
elliott smith
mike doughty, i hear the bells
wolf parade
modest mouse, float on
white stripes, seven nation army
metric, old world underground where are you now, i don't think i picked a specific song for that scene but it would be combat baby
taylor swift, all too well
celine dion, my heart will go on
violent femmes, blister in the sun, which is a private in-joke with myself because that's the song that angela chase of my so-called life spends like 2 minutes dancing goofily in her bedroom to when her voice over tells us she woke up one day and was over jordan catalano
the 1975, sex
the cure, lovesong
rolling stones, gimme shelter
manic street preachers
bob dylan, mr. tambourine man
lcd soundsystem, all my friends
feist, i feel it all
my bloody valentine
the hold steady, stay positive
the mountain goats, this year
charly bliss, capacity, which was almost the title track for part two
sleater-kinney [fwiw it has stiff competition but if i had to pick i think this is the most unrealistic thing i put in quentin's spotify library]
rainer maria, thought i was
madonna, like a prayer, and also whatever the hell else i put on eliot's pop divas selkie mixtape. uh. dancing on my own maybe? superbass for sure
i'm pretty sure i snuck carly rae jepsen in there somewhere as diegetic music quentin doesn't know and if i did do that it was definitely run away with me
& of course the title tracks for the series: metric, help i'm alive; rilo kiley, portions for foxes; & the hold steady, how a resurrection really feels

Tv shows I like with absolutely bangin soundtracks
Gilmore Girls - Carole King, Grant-Lee Philips (troubadour), The Bangles, The Shins, Sam Philips, Bowie, Blondie, Nancy Sinatra, The Smiths, Talking Heads. Everything from the oldies to current stuff, mostly various flavors of rock. Lots of new wave and post punk vibes. It’s got everything from greatest hits to deep cuts. The whole show is a love letter to (mostly American, mostly white) art/media in general. While I acknowledge plenty of the references do not hold up, I hold that the soundtrack has zero misses in terms of well-chosen bangers.
Sex Education - Ezra Furman does a lot of it, and then they throw in loads of rock and pop classics and current stuff. Violent Femmes, Fleetwood Mac, T.Rex, The Velvet Underground, Brenton Wood, Queen. It’s honestly on par with Gilmore Girls, Furman takes the place of Carole King/Grant-Lee Philips and then everything else is an eclectic and fun mix. It’s more diverse than the GG soundtrack and also has zero misses.
Grace & Frankie - the intro theme is Stealers Wheel but the rest of it is a mix of oldies and current stuff. Eclectic as hell, I adore it. Everything from Gloria Gaynor to Bahamas. A bit of it is covers but they’re good covers. Then you’ve got Any Winehouse, The Milk Carton Kids, Kenny Loggins, Dionne Warwick, Alabama Shakes, 7horse, Little Richard, Adele. I think I caught a bit of punk in Frankie’s car in one scene, it might’ve been the Clash but I forget.
Madam Secretary - ok hear me out!!!! You’ve got Andra Day, Adele, Bowie, Peter Frampton, Joni Mitchell, a song from a Sondheim musical, several songs performed by the cast with their vocals and piano (inc. Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, a parody of a Billy Joel song, a few Christmas songs…). And then the song of all time, Cemalım (Erkin Koray) which slaps.
Our Flag Means Death - every song in the soundtrack is a banger I just personally always have different associations with them already because they’re always quite important to me before i see the show. Which is why it’s so low on the list for me personally. Also I have spent the last year and a half overthinking every song I hear through the brainrot lens and I associate like a whole other group of songs with that show now instead of the soundtrack. But the actual canon soundtrack is good, I love Lou Reed, Fleetwood Mac, etc.
How to Get Away With Murder - man I didn’t even finish watching this show and some of the songs stuck with me. Mostly IAMX.
What We Do In The Shadows - the fucking intro Norma Tenga song alone changed my life. It goes so goddamn hard. And then you add King Luan, Tol-Puddle Martyrs, Matt Berry’s originals, MUSE!!!!, Echo & The Bunnymen, Haley Heynderickx (who is SURELY also in Sex Ed), THE CRAMPS (perfect choice, I was furious until they finally put ‘em in), Siouxsie and Bauhaus (both almost certainly also in Gilmore Girls, but I could be wrong)… man I could continue from just season 5 alone they really don’t miss.
Community - their soundtrack includes The Police, Florence + The Machine, The Fratellis, The Cranberries, Lord Huron… and of course loads of cast originals.
Criminal Minds - pixies, NIN, the Kinks, Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald, Jeff Buckley… all of this was also on Gilmore Girls. Billy Joel, Sara Bareilles, Jason Mraz, Deep Purple, Korn, Boston, Johnny Cash, AC/DC, Bob Dylan, THE BLACK KEYS!!!!, REM, Leonard Cohen, Cage the Elephant… all bangers. Honestly that’s part of what kept me watching for so long.
I’d just like to acknowledge Twin Peaks, The Sopranos, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Father Brown, and Heartstopper, Derry Girls, the Good Place, and Parks and Rec, which all also have soundtracks.

You know what, I’m gonna do that album ask thing with Violent Femmes first album because I have THOUGHTS!
Best Song: Gone Daddy Gone 100% that song slaps so hard it makes me want to dance. Would love to learn the rest of the bass line but I’m not sure I’m ready for it yet.
Least Favourite: maybe Good Feeling? Like it’s really good on its own but when listening to it on vinyl, it follows Gone Daddy Gone and as I said that song slaps. It changes the mood a bit and that was the intention from what I understand but sometimes I want to fill my soul with just pure hard angst and not really soft and light angst. Also To The Kill. You are in the way of me listening to Gone Daddy Gone and it’s a very painful and slow wait on vinyl. It’s not bad by any means I just tune out for a few minutes.
Favourite Song(s): Gone Daddy Gone, Please Do Not Go, Kiss Off, and Add It Up. I love those songs so much.
Overrated: Blister in the Sun. It’s really good and I do like it, but everyone and their mom likes it. It also was in a wendy’s commercial so that says something (and there was band drama because of it being in a commercial.)
Underrated: Kiss Off and also maybe Add It Up. Show some more respect to the most angsty songs on the entire album.
Banger of all Bangers: Gone Daddy Gone and Add It Up. Holy shit those two hit HARD. Also Kiss Off. The counting parts rising tension is amazing.
Overall Rating: 9.9/10. It’s a personal favourite of mine I love it to pieces it’s so good! Every chance I get to listen to it on vinyl I take and I will play it twice. That’s how much I love it.

not sure if this falls under requests but im curious what you think the danoverse characters’ favorite songs would be : )
What Music Dano Characters Would Listen To
I love this idea omg,,will be indulging in every Dano character I write for for this omg
Warning for obvious Klitz favoritism lmao
Dwayne Hoover
- Edgy 2000s teen starter pack right here, definitely has notable bands like Rage Against the Machine, Green Day, and System of a Down
- But his favorite genre is definitely folk punk; he enjoys the raw feeling of it all and he feels as if he can really connect with the lyrics more
Klitz
- Admittedly, trying to find a good solid genre/song for Klitz is difficult
- So he gets two recs
- Quite literally it's stuck in between Britney Spears or Kimya Dawson
- He's definitely embarrassed to admit that he's a fan of Britney, refusing to have any merch for her in fears of a nosy tripod. But if a Britney Spears song played on the radio, he'll fight like hell so no one can turn the station
- Definitely got into Britney because he used to have a crush on her
- Whereas he listens to Kimya openly, constantly having her music on as he studies and it compliments the calmer aspect of his personality well
Louis Ives
- Oh she's a sucker for music from 40s-60s, the fuzzy quality is sure to get her daydreaming in no time
- Especially if they're tooth rottingly sweet love songs, her ultimate weakness <3
Calvin Weir-fields
- I believe in CAKE stan Calvin supremacy; it just has a lot of laid back vibes and they're pretty catchy. He definitely keeps a couple of CDs in his car
Hank Thompson
- Oh Hank's music taste is weird (affectionate)
- I can see him loving They Might Be Giants. They're so fun and unashamedly weird, it's right up his alley
Eli Sunday
- Eli's music doesn't stray away from his religion; he finds great enjoyment in hearing the organ play and the songs from a church choir
- But he also finds himself nodding along to a lot of faith based bluegrass, but he also doesn't mind the typical song about simple country life
- Sorry no rec for this one, I'm not too familiar with either genres </3
Jay
- Biggest one out of left-field: Jay listens to pre 9/11 country music. The genre before it got oversaturated with blind patriotism and posers
- He always liked a lot of counterculture music, but unlike everyone else in ALF, he simply couldn't get into the harsh guitars and too in your face approach of punk and other rock subgenres
- He supports the message, but he prefers something with more of a steady beat and twang to it. Don't be surprised to find him listening to folks like Johnny Cash or Dolly Parton
Edward Nashton
- Edward is a very simple man actually, choosing to listen to nothing but classical instrumentals and Catholic songs that remind him of his upbringing
- They're genres that keep him focussed on his day to day and remind him what he is fighting for
- He keeps his religion close to him, sometimes if you catch him becoming too entranced in his activities he'll start singing along

team rocket 🎸music headcanons🎸
jessie
probably uses apple music just because it came with her phone and she didn't need to go get a whole extra app.
she put basically every song she knows onto one playlist and named it "JESSIES ULTIMATE PLAYLIST." it's inordinately long (fr it's like a 500-hour playlist). she always shuffles it and it gives james whiplash because it'll jump from like hyperpop to norah jones to "fuck tha police" but jess loves it because she doesn't get bored. james taught her how to upload a picture as the playlist cover and she added a selfie. she changes it like once a week
(i like to imagine that jessie tried to learn various instruments when she was growing up but never had the patience to dedicate herself to learning any of them or the money for lessons, but she loves to sing and does it all the time.)
james
100% a spotify person. in fact, he has spotify premium.
he's made like 43 playlists that are curated to fit very specific emotions/vibes. they download random images from pinterest that fit those vibes to add as cover art for each playlist. aaaand almost all of the playlists are created with the songs in a certain order to be listened to from start to finish.
james's music tastes are fairly broad. for example i can see them having a pop-punk playlist with mcr & fall out boy & p!atd & avril lavigne, an emo rap playlist with brockhampton & kevin abstract & milo, a sadboi playlist with like the front bottoms & modern baseball & fidlar, and a classics playlist with elvis & the rolling stones & janis joplin, and listening to all of these on the same day.
also a pop playlist which might secretly be his favorite. like i think he literally loves britney spears and kesha.
meowth
uses spotify and has a few playlists but. listen. hear me out ok. this man unironically has a collection of casette tapes.
i think meowth loves classic punk music like the ramones & the dead kennedys & the violent femmes & the clash and also really likes old school rap, and he feels strongly that these genres sound better & more authentic on casette than they do remastered and digitally.
mostly though meowth prefers to write and play music himself on his little guitar <3

Tagged by my bestie @dragonflylady77 @lovebillyhargrove @starkstruck27 thank yooou
A song constantly stuck in my head: well whenever I'm in a bad mood my brain starts to sing "daaaaay after daaay i get angryyyy and i will saaaaay" so I guess it's Add It Up by Violent Femmes
Last song I listened to: Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Top three foods: These change a lot. Right now: Paçoca (brazilian peanut sweet), my mom's cabbage salad, and any fruit salad. I'm really into cold/fresh food right now? Which is weird because it's winter.
Last thing I googled: "What does catty-corner mean"
Dream Trip: Going to New York in September to see Greta Van Fleet
Anything I want right now: That fucking Hell Book I wanna read
Thanks for the tag!!! It's been a long time since I've done one of these, and I've been feeling a little isolated lately. You're all angels 💛💛💛💛
No pressure tags: @adelacreations @hephaestn @shieldofiron @robthegoodfellow @imsodishy @discodeviant

21 songs that i carried with me, in my (sometimes heavy and tired, sometimes bright and hopeful) heart, throughout the 21st year of my life.
for my birthday the past few years, i've put together a list of the songs that i feel had the biggest impact on me for that year of my life. this is the first year i have a tumblr, so i figured this would be a nice place to share the list-- mostly for myself, but also to maybe inspire others to do the same! it's kinda like a spotify wrap-up, but...not...
i think someone's favorite songs are a beautiful insight to who they are and what matters to them, and as someone who struggles with being quite shy, i find that talking about music with people is my favorite way to come out of my lil shell. these songs are all so, so incredible and i urge you to give some a listen if you're looking for new tunes!
(ok thanks for putting up with my self-indulgent, music-nerd ramblings <3)
Tumblr media
1 . punisher (copycat killer version); phoebe bridgers
as the song goes, everyone knows you’re the way to my heart. anyone who knows me knows this song is the way to my heart. this is my most streamed song of all time and i stand by that completely. (even though i actually dislike the original version of this song...crazy!)
2. matilda; harry styles
do i need to even explain why this song has been played mercilessly on sad days?
3. through me (the flood); hozier
though this song has only been out for the final month of my 21st year, i already know i will hold onto it for many years to come.
4. savior complex; phoebe bridgers
one hand on the wheel, one in your mouth. turn me on, turn me down. incredible.
5. blood in the wine; aurora
i saw aurora live from the front row for the first time last summer and have never been the same since.
6. hate to be lame; lizzy mcalpine & finneas
this collab is what introduced me to lizzy mcalpine and i am very, very happy it did.
7. a concert six months from now; finneas
just a beautiful telling of the complexities of love and optimism.
8. aye; sam fender
the opening verse gets me so angry every time i listen to this song. it’s a ruthless political fuck you to rich people and it does it so poignantly.
9. vienna; billy joel
my comfort song. slow down, you’re doing fine.
10. cinema; harry styles
possibly my favorite song of harry’s to dance and sing along with. the outro is such a fun ending.
11. torna a casa; maneskin
the buildup and emotion in this song is unlike any other.
12. family line; conan gray
i don’t usually enjoy conan gray’s music, but someone told me to listen to this one day, and…wow. ouch.
13. lost cause; billie eilish
i didn’t love this song when it first came out, but it really grew on me this year and i’ve danced around in my room to it many, many times.
14. she; harry styles
harry’s best song. there, i said it.
15. the kids are all dying; finneas
another poignant political song. very fuck america.
16. add it up; violent femmes
the best karaoke song. i will never not scream it at the top of my lungs.
17. talk; hozier
soooo sexy. that’s all i need to say.
18. only angel; harry styles
yet another musical masterpiece from harry. i know it’s divisive, but i absolutely love the intro.
19. it will come back; hozier
i am utterly terrible at picking favorites, but i think this is my favorite hozier song…but please don’t hold me to that.
20. partners in crime; finneas
thought you wanted me tied down, it started to chafe. but it’s easy to see now, you just wanted me safe. ahhhh!!!!!!
21. call me lover; sam fender
and last but certainly not least, the song i stole my username from. i love it when you call me lover...

The Chorus in My Head (and Another Real Part I Guess)
I know I have a couple people here who are younger than me by a significant margin, and some people who just don't have a DJ in their head all the time, but anybody remember that Violent Femmes song Lies? Yeah. That is just playing and playing and playing for me for the past week.
I super hate being lied to. And I've been doing pretty well not thinking about how hurt I was last fall, being so consistently and continuously lied to, I think. But for the past week or two, I've been thinking about it. A lot.
And I guess I want to write about writing some. So spoiler alert I guess for the handful (2 maybe 3) folks who are here who haven't read my first book(s).
Probably obviously, the first heroine I wrote in novel form was a lot like me. I mean...she didn't look like me. She didn't meet her eventual partner the same way I did; her partner was a lot different (physically and in small talk details anyway) than J. It's a fictional story still. But I really did work with a bunch of guys at a construction company; most of my old friends are guys (yay! Today is basketball Thursday!); I do tend to be a really blunt communicator and a sunshiney Pollyanna about life a lot of the time. I'm a Look on the Bright Side person. I'm a Glass Half Full person. It's how I survive. Maybe I started thinking about that because of Ke Huy Quan winning the Oscar for Everything Everywhere All At Once (everyone should see that film, for serious). I really related to his character, particularly this scene:
Tumblr media
"When I choose to see the good side of things, I'm not being naive. It is strategic and necessary. It's how I've learned to survive through everything. "
And that's part of me that I'm grappling with now too, because my focusing hard on the good in people has often enough ended with me being lied to and hurt. To jump from a great movie to a great book, there's this quote in Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner that I've always related to too:
"And that's the thing about people who mean everything they say. They think everyone else does too."
I'm a lot like Jessica Fielding (eventually Evers). On the insides. Not just her job or who she makes friends with or even that she's probably on the spectrum (because so am I), but I'm a person who means everything I say, and unfortunately, too many times, I've believed everyone else does too. And man, they sure don't.
I'm grateful that this time, the lies I was told didn't REALLY do me any practical harm. I didn't get physically injured. I didn't lose any important relationships with other people. I didn't lose any money. But damned if I'm not wondering if that's where they were headed. I have to get out of 'what if' land (thanks, basketball and my old guy friends today for probably assuring that happens), but right now I'm there. 'What if they were trying to break up my marriage? What if they were going to start asking for money? What if they were going to tear down the repairs I've made with my mom? What if they were going to use information to hurt J's career or keep me from going back to work? What if what if what if...?' I like people who are honest, because then I never have to wonder what if about them or their motives. It's easier to stay on the bright side with them, even when they tell me something dark, because I never have to search through their shadows for the truth. They just shine the light on it for me.
Anyway, time to prepare for what I hope and expect to be a good weekend. Because I'm like that. Go Norse! Go Cats! Go Cougars! (my alma mater; my hometown fandom; my kid's high school mascot)
Maybe I'll stop hearing Lies Lies Lies Lies Lies Lies Lies Lies Lies Lies Lies Lies Lies Lies Lies...stomping through my head soon.

Assigning each Lost Boy one of my favorite albums
Hi! This is my first ever post from a different fandom! I thought of this idea several days ago, but I just haven’t gotten the chance to make it until now. It’s by no means an original idea, but I thought it’d be fun to do so you guys can get to know my tastes :) also I apologize for making all of the albums female fronted, I just prefer female voices haha, I also went a bit Anthony Fantano with my explanations and turned them into album reviews oopsies :3 I’m probably gonna do the other characters too, so stay tuned for that!!
David
Tumblr media
A Prayer Under Pressure of Violent Anguish - My Ruin
This was kind of a hard one for me because I couldn’t really find an album I really like that screams David, but I think this one suits him pretty well. There are some songs on here that aren’t really him lyric wise, but the music itself is pretty heavy, and the way Tairrie B. sings is real intense, which I think David would really enjoy, being the edgelord that he is LMAO plus there’s some songs that talk about religion, and I thought that would be something he’d be into because I feel like he’d think it’s funny he’s a vampire and he’s listening to songs about Christianity, even though they’re written in a negative light.
Dwayne
Tumblr media
Clear Hearts Grey Flowers - Jack Off Jill
Dwayne. Dwayne. My favorite boy, literally he is the only guy ever, so this wasn’t a hard choice. CHGF is a very punk and gothic rock driven album, which is something I think Dwayne would really like. It has a much more mature, polished sound than JOJ’s other albums, Sexless Demons and Scars and Humid Teenage Mediocrity, but it isn’t completely mellowed down, which I feel reflects his personality (he’s wayyy more unhinged then he lets on ;D). There are some “calmer” songs on the album, though they still keep the same broodiness seen throughout the album, which is also something I think is very Dwayne.
Paul
Tumblr media
Fantastic Wounds - Schoolyard Heroes
Fantastic Wounds is one of my absolute favorites of all time; it’s campy, dramatic, and nothing I’ve never, ever heard of before. Ryann Donnelly, the lead singer, she does multiple voice parts, which includes her normal singing voice, opera, screaming and shrieking, and her own dramatic way of singing (listen to the album, and you’ll get what I mean), which is something Paul would absolutely love. Her voice is also very feminine and shrill with strangely sugary sweet, cutesy vocals, something I think Paul would get addicted to. The record is just all over the place, but it’s still cohesive, which makes it easy to focus on, and I think Paul would appreciate that since he’s got the attention span of a golden retriever puppy, but it’s by no means boring. It sounds exactly like the soundtrack to a cheesy, campy horror movie. Even the toned down songs are far from mild! It’s just a fun listen, and I wish Schoolyard Heroes was still together so they could make even more amazing records (I kinda went on a tangent with this one, sorry LOL I’ve just been absolutely in love with this record for the past four years).
Marko
Tumblr media
Bricks Are Heavy - L7
Okay we all know none of the boys shy away from punk (the music and subculture, though I don’t really think you can like one and not the other tbh), and I’m a firm believer that this includes femme punk. The Lost Boys can be feminists, as a little treat (for me) I’m fine with them murdering people but I draw the line at misogyny and bigotry /hj. I headcanon Marko as the one who’s the most into punk rock among the guys. Bricks Are Heavy starts off the bat with Wargasm, anti-war song that’s weirdly sexual but for good reason (did you know I also headcanon Marko to be a huge fucking horndog?). The rest of the album is mainly political, save for a couple of songs, but they’re not any less aggressive or impactful; they’re very hard to forget, just like Marko!
