I tried drawing reeda because I love her. I have no idea what you had in mind for her design so I just re-read the chapter and went off of what your description was the best that I could. She gives me Painter vibes from pressure
Tumblr media
I LOVE THISSSSSSSSSSSSS THANK YOU!!!!!! Ford absolutely has a mini monitor like this in each room so he can see its messages!
Honestly REEDA's main design in my head fits Ford's lab, so it's a very retro cassette-futuristic style like you've illustrated. Think: how did people imagine the future was going to look in 197-something. All Commodores and IBM and thick plastic etc.
Ford's lab in mtb is designed with that exact aesthetic in mind, so terminals and things like this were at the forefront of my mind:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These types of terminals are primarily in the mainframe room that Reader goes through to access the lab. It's all set up with things like the above. Whereas REEDA's central screens in the main body of the lab look more like the ones in The Forbin Project:
Tumblr media
Except they're a mix of both of those aesthetics, so they're weirdly long CRT monitors suspended in a similar layout to the above!
Tumblr media
Here's another ss from Forbin bc it works along similar lines! And also it's a great movie and you should watch it!
#i really honestly think Ford's favourite movie is Alien#and so in mtb he just wanted a cool Nostromo type lab#and i thought the idea was funny and cute and in character so#also b u t t o n s#i think he's also incredibly nostalgic for a time he left behind and even though he dislikes tech when he leaves#he HAS to make use of it in alternate dimensions so grows a grudging acceptance for it#and i think he's AWFUL with earth tech and when he comes back and sees how minimalist everything is he hates it even more#but he's forced to engage with alien tech in his travels so he becomes used to it a bit more#and so he combines that aesthetic nostalgia with the advanced ability of alien tech#which is how he designs his lab#he prefers old-style ways of recording (his journals) but he knows he HAS to make use of digital record keeping to some extent#and he's come to understand its applications in foreign environments#so while he still records everything on paper#he utilises other aspects of tech if he has to#but he complains about it the whole time and he'd really just be happy with 8000 filing cabinets of a4 and a biro#but really considering all the information he retains and works on it means he needs a specialist set up#anyways shut UP fox we get it you like worldbuilding for this guy UGH enough#asks#ford asks#wb#mtb stuff#ALSO we do see that he makes use of tech in LL and so I think he makes himself get on with it where he has to#just to defend myself a bit#bc i know some people think he'd be very tech-phobic in general#but i disagree to a certain extent#like yes but actually also no#AND remember that Fidds installed REEDA#ford had no say in it#he just begrudgingly goes along with it and gradually learns that actually its quite useful (though he won't admit it)#anways I digress that was a real tirade for no real reason im just very passionate about Ford's experiences with alien tech

pros of trying to TA would be 1) it would be a cool experience and also inform whether or not I actually want to go into education or not, 2) I would get to spend time in a lab again which I really miss, and 3) this time around I could actually try and do some sort of autobio/nonfiction comic about it. cons are that 1) my schedule is already evil, 2) would cut into my designated radio/library day (only by 3 hours though) and 3) adding more things onto my plate the same semester im doing The Class is probably not a good idea. but also I miss pipetting cells.

have had some mobility issues lately due to fucking up my legs badly but god snapping one of those 4 part foldable canes into place has got to be one of the most satisfying feelings in the world. there's nothing like producing a full sized cane out of a big inner pocket in your jacket when nobody expects it. like some sort of magician with shitty legs.

I hate to break it to Republicans but at this point most of the so called "DEI hires" in workplaces are white men who don't have the skills, certificates, degrees, and/or experience for the job and only got their positions because a friend of a friend got them hired. Like women, non-white people, queer people, disabled people, and many others all know they'd be first on the chopping block at their job which is why they are usually the ones most qualified, and even overqualified, in their workplace. They're the ones with the degrees, years of experience, tons of skills, and who meet or exceed expectations at their job. They're the ones who work their asses off and keep the place running. And when it comes to cutting people, managers and administrators only care about who can keep the lights on and the numbers high. So Bradley, who only got the job because a family member convinced the manager to hire him even though he was not qualified at all, and he's doing the bare minimum every month, and he sucks to work with, is getting cut first. Simple as that.

Frustrating when a VC-funded company gets credit for being the "first" and the "leader," when they had a sub-component demo the same week we had a full-system demo. Like, we are easily 5-10 years ahead of them, it's ridiculous; their approach isn't even yet proven to work. But they get science youtubers talking about them.
Because they're VC-funded, they have a marketing/press department.
And because we're an employee-owned company working off of government contracts, well, most government contracts get slapped with an ITAR label (an old Cold-War-era law saying basically sharing scientific information counts as illegally selling arms/munitions). So if you want to publicize your work, including your company's products, you have to appeal that label. (Universities have specifically negotiated a blanket exemption, so if you spend your whole life in academic science you might never even know about this.)
(My previous employer filed those appeals several times a year in order to do press releases and publish journal articles and apply for patents. I think every single information-release appeal they filed went through, because there's no reason any of this stuff should be labeled as arms--it's literally the same stuff universities are doing. My current employer is afraid to, which I think is wrong-headed; at worst they'll just say no, and anyway, our non-restricted competitors are giving fucking lab tours to youtubers.)
#these restrictions mean you also can't have employees on visas working on these projects#my previous employer tried to appeal that too and failed--they were only able to appeal the dissemination of information part#so we had locked labs that my international coworkers weren't allowed in#(one got a green card and was allowed in eventually)#ironically the VC-funded company is doing it the same way I did it in my PhD thesis#two other people at the company did this stuff in their post-docs#all of us are over 40 (one guy is over 50 I'm pretty sure) so this is not a new technique--I got two MINOR papers on it 16 years ago#the MAJOR papers are like 25 years old#and we're all convinced it's NOT the right approach#granted the technique we are using is about 30 years old#in my literal thesis defense one of my committee members asked why I was using the technique the VC companies are now using#and if I had done the math to prove it was superior to the older technique#and I was like--everyone knows the new technique is superior that's why it's trendy#and my advisor (who was a genius) said the same thing and that it wasn't a fair question#but the guy who asked it was an ancient theorist who REALLY knew what he was talking about#and in retrospect he was completely right--I should have done the math comparing the techniques and the older technique IS better#a few weeks into my job here I did the math and found that if you use the BEST version of the new technique--one that only one group#has demonstrated can even be done and they didn't get all the way to the point of demonstrating an application like this#and you assume some generous efficiency numbers#it breaks even with the old technique#that's not what this VC group is doing so... not a chance lol

Alright, a Quality Assurance position has just opened up, and I've applied for it. (I know my worth, I have experience, and worst thing they can do is say no.)
*deep breath*
Here we go.

*let it be known that I strongly believe in "wanda was 18 in civil war" making the maximoffs 16 in aou, not 26. also at this point in the lab rats timeline they're 16/17 years old*
bree manages to prevent both pietro AND clint from getting shot in aou...and, much to the avengers'--but especially adam, chase and wanda's--frustration, they keep flirting with each other. luckily it doesn't hinder them during a fight, so the original avengers can't actually stop them, but that doesn't mean chase and adam can't make fun of them for it

like how do you invent an oxygen destroyer whose only application is to vaporize a tank full of fish and then your grand plan for this machine is to sit in your basement and wait for some altruistic use for your machine to magically show up. no thoughts head empty powered only by the inherent mad scientist urge to Invent Something.

Found myself somehow in the "chemical substances in nondescript packaging" side of Etsy.
It's very interesting to google the molecules and try to figure out what kind of shop you're in.
Diethylaminoethyl hexanoate, kinetin, 6-benzylaminopurine, forchlorfenuron? This "nondescript chemicals" shop is a gardening store! All of these are plant growth improvers.
Trans-ß-methyl-ß-nitrostyrene, nitroethane, acetonitrile, formamide, acetic anhydride? Why, this appears to be a cooking store! Molecular cooking, of the bathroom variety. Alexander Shulgin would probably approve.
...
Anyway I love that Etsy comes through for ALL hobbies.
