What’s the Best Way to Learn Electronics?
What’s the best way to learn electronics? It’s a pithy question to ask a Hackaday audience, most of whom are at least conversant in the field already. Those who already have learned often have just their own perspective to draw upon—how they themselves learned. Some of you may have taught others. I want to explore what works and what doesn’t. Hobbyists Learn Differently Than Students One thing I can say straight off is that students learn differently than people who learn at home. Hobbyists have the advantage of actually being interested, which is a quality a student may not enjoy. …read more http://pje.fyi/PnVjjX

A kid-friendly electronics board that you can program from the web

Peegar is an Arduinio-style electronics kit that you design programs for by dragging and dropping Scratch-style objects around in a browser; when you're done, the program is converted to a brief snatch of sound that you transmit through the board by plugging a standard audio cable into your device's headphone jack.
The idea is to give kids access to a hardware prototyping environment that does not require USB cables, online accounts or software downloads. It's an academic project from University of Tokyo, and I just met the creator at SXSW, who says he's contemplating Kickstarting a production run. The mechanism is very cool, and I can imagine that you could adapt it for existing Raspi/Arduino-environments just by making a system-on-a-chip shield that translates between audio to data over the board's USB port.

Presentation End Design
Our theme was locating dogs around Manchester in order to come to this final outcome we had to do lots of things such as Laser Cutting, Adobe Illustrator work to design the map and leaflet, Setting up the arduinio as the interactive feature using LED lights as pinpoints for different locations for different dogs, programming the arduinio for different timings when LEDs come on, creating a slideshow as a visual approach for the audience and we also wanted to make a POS (Point of Sale) in order to do this we used lots of dog related items such as toys, a dog bed and dog bowl to keep the theme consistent and look good.

MDB - 9 bit serial research
I've done some reasearch on arduino, atmel and 9 bit serial. Again my goal is to stay as much in the Open Source toolchain as possible so that I don't have to support any more than I have to, and so my result is as standardized as possible:
The arduino serial can not handle 9 bit transactions. :(
Atmel, however does support it. "1 start bit • 5,6,7,8,or9databits • no, even or odd parity bit • 1or2stopbits"
Looking at the existing Atmel serial library it is sadly hardcoded to 8 bits.
Theres a bitbang serial library for arduino called New Soft Serial. It does not do 9 bit either :(. It seems like it would be not too terribly difficult to alter that code though.
So my options are
a fresh atmel library, which arduino people wouldn't look at.
A fresh arduino hardware or software serial implementation which I may be able to get upstreamed to them,
altering the existing NSS product and attempting to get that upstreamed.
For now I choose altering NSS as it will be the least path of resistance. Here goes nothing.

Nerds Unite: Prosthetics Inspired by Comics and Beyond!
Open Bionics is a company creating prosthetics inspired by heroines, heroes and the fictional worlds they live in. The designs emblazoned on their first set of bionic hands include ones drawn from Queen Elsa from Disney’s Frozen, and Marvel’s Iron Man. The best thing about what they are doing is they offer you, dear reader, a chance to lend your own super powers of design and engineering. Open Bionics offers up 3D print files for several hand designs, hardware schematics and design files for their controller boards, firmware, and software to control the robotic hands with. Other than their website, …read more http://pje.fyi/QK2v5y

China Arduino Nachbau (CH340 Treiber)
