Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider (Vol. 1/2017), #1.
Writer: Peter David; Penciler: Mark Bagley; Inker: John Dell; Colorist: Jason Keith; Letterer: Joe Caramagna
#Marvel#Marvel comics#Marvel 616#Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider#Scarlet Spider#Ben Reilly#Cover Gallery#*heavy sigh*#warning personal opinions inbound#anything following this is firmly imo and should absolutely be taken with a grain of salt hahaha#for years I’ve been seeing comments along the lines of#‘???? I’m pretty sure Clone Conspiracy and onward Ben is that Spidercide 2.0 Warren was hinting at during the Superior Spider-Man Team-Up’#and I can’t stop thinking about that alsdhjsk#I get the explanation for why Ben is acting the way he is during this series (he died MANY times in quick succession and that takes a toll)#but…I guess understanding a story/character decision isn’t the same as liking it#I get WHY they’re trying to convince the audience that Ben has gone full edgelord but it still#(again entirely imo) kind of out of character for me#I guess what really sticks out in my mind is a line from a single infinity comic which stuck with me from my Spidey read-through#that even if Peter was lobotomized (or completely devoid of his memories as was the case) he would still do the right thing#mind you they also tied that to Peter having a clear sense of self which has consistently been Ben’s achilles’ heel#but I guess it’s that age-old gray area surrounding exactly /how/ much alike Ben and Peter are#I always tended to lean towards the idea that Ben’s his own person but made of the same die-by-his-ideals#morally upright material#which is where I guess my opinion on Ben and this series’ opinion diverge since it insists that Ben is corruptible#(the infinity comic is Amazing Spider-Man: Who Am I? by the way)#ALSO I always wondered why I /adore/ Scarlet Spider vol. 2 but this series doesn’t quite sit well with me#despite both series supposedly being about Spidey clones who are not good people yet are nominally heroes#and I guess it comes down to Scarlet Spider vol. 2’s theme of redemption#Kaine is TRYING to do better despite his ingrained cynicism and he does become more heroic!#this series feels akin to a downward spiral with a downer ending if I remember correctly and it’s just…not fun to watch for a fave characte

Round 3 of the Fit Check Time! (Also Happy birthday Steve Rogers) this time im gonna be looking at the other clones of Spidey that didn't quite have enough costumes for their own spotlight!
SPIDER FIT CHECK: THE CLONES
Tumblr media
Spidercide: 7/10
While I do really like how big he is, the chest design is kindof half baked (which you could argue is the intent). I do like his more spikey eyes though, kindof like a combination of Peter and Ben's masks.
Tumblr media
Scorpion: 9/10
Okay so the Ultimate Universe kindof shakes up the clone saga a little. But this Scorpion design is really cool, the hunch back connecting to the tail and 3 fingered gauntlets are really fun touches.
Tumblr media
Tarantula: 10/10
Dude hell yes, The wide spider works really well here with each leg stretching onto one of his arms. Plus the diamonds scattered along the costumes are a neat aspect thats pretty unique to this spider.
Tumblr media
Ultimate Spider-Woman: 12/10
Do i need to say anything here? The exposed hair, the Scarlet Spider eyes with her own symbol that wraps around the sides, continuing the trend of clones having fingerless gloves, total banger of a suit. Also Trans rights!
Tumblr media
Ultimate Black Widow: 4/10
Normally I'm all for adding a jacket to a design but like...yall really thought that this was an improvement over Spider-Woman?
Tumblr media
Reformed Spidercide: 8/10
Giving him webbing and his own symbol really helps give this costume some character. And hey its the first time we've seen underarm webwings on a clone!
Tumblr media
Rek-Rap: 8/10
It goes for comic goofiness and it works pretty well, the symbols being reversed and the big ol grin is fun to me.

Same Ben anon here, thank you for the response! Honestly I'm just hoping someone will chose to be really funny and have Ben not actually be Ben but Spidercide. Ben Reilly: Spider-Man could be used as an excuse for it at this point. Imagine how angry Kaine and Peter would be with him for tarnishing Ben's memory. Spidercide just having wanted to keep Ben alive somehow and was just really bad at being him. If I had the energy I would make it fanfic, but I don't. I hope your having a good day!
anon that is genuinely so funny but also a little emotional (Spidercide handling emotions the way only Spidercide could) and I hope someone does it. surprise! Spidercide!

Okay lowkey interested in this story now and seeing where it goes since Peter and Spidercide gonna be working together.
Would love to see Spidercide come to care about Peter the way he seemed to grow to care about Ben in that story they had together before...
;w; he deserves his place as one of the brothers... (and also maybe a Real Name).

Scarlet Spider Primer #2:The Jackal
Miles Warren is Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy’s college science professor, a supervillain responsible for The Punisher’s rise to power, and the closest thing anyone could reasonably say that Ben Reilly has to a father.
He became The Jackal following the death of Gwen Stacy, because he was obsessed with her in a super creepy way and blamed Spider-Man for her death. His first way of striking back was to set the up-and-coming killer The Punisher against Spider-Man, aided by the public perception that Spider-Man had murdered Norman Osborn. The Punisher failed repeatedly in the task, due largely to Peter’s Spider-Sense, and eventually gave up after coming to doubt that The Jackal was being honest about his motivations.
Not yet aware that they were one and the same, his next move was to kidnap Peter Parker in the hopes of having the Daily Bugle photographer lead him to Spider-Man, wiring a device to Peter’s arm after rendering the teen unconscious with the help of The Grizzly, another new face in Spider-Man’s rogues gallery. Peter carefully disabled it and tossed it into the river with seemingly no repercussion.
As part of his twisted desire, he created a clone of Gwen Stacy, who surfaced not long after Peter disposed of the device. Aunt May discovered her and the sight of a dead girl shocked her so badly that it sent the old woman to the hospital. He sent Scorpion after Aunt May in the hospital, seemingly knowing that Spider-Man was in her hospital room at the exact moment Peter was visiting her, while the clone of Gwen was proven to be exactly that by the staff of the Daily Bugle.
Once the truth came out, he helped Tarantula break out of prison so that the supervillain could help him capture Spider-Man in turn. When that teamup proved successful, he had Tarantula throw Spider-Man off the Brooklyn Bridge just as Gwen died. After narrowly escaping, Peter teamed up with Ned Leeds and managed to finally connect that Miles Warren was The Jackal before he captured the pair.
With his secret known, he revealed to Spider-Man that he’d loved Gwen and been jealous of her love for Peter, then explained how he’d cloned both her and Peter, subsequently killing the assistant who found out about the cloning and blaming the heinous act of passion on “The Jackal” rather than Miles Warren in a pretty inconsistent split identity kind of way,
As Spider-Man and the clone that would come to be known as Ben Reilly tussled, the Gwen clone tore the Jackal mask from Warren’s face in disgust, forcing him to acknowledge that he was responsible for everything. His revelation led to him freeing Ned Leeds, seemingly at the cost of his own life.
Before he and Ben resurface again, the villain Carrion (not the one from Maximum Carnage) reveals to Spider-Man that he cloned himself before their final encounter, and that failed and overcooked clone was in fact Carrion, who just dies right after anyway. The subsequent Carrion only believed himself to be a clone of Miles Warren thanks to the high Evolutionary and a retcon to make the cloning stuff more in line with what contemporary science understood.
Science came back around on cloning after a while, and so he came back not long after the Ben Reilly reveal, furthering his campaign of vengeance against Peter with yet another clone, the one who would come to be known as Spidercide, as well as the appearance of Kaine, who had evidently been tormenting Ben during the latter’s time away. In addition to muddying the waters for Peter with the multitude of clones, he also manage to trigger a hypnotic program in Peter that forced the hero to go after Mary Jane, all while also working to destabilize the life that Ben was trying to build.
It was eventually revealed that Norman Osborn was still alive, despite what seemed to happen with the Goblin Glider, and had been pulling all the strings behind the scenes, everything The Jackal did spurred on by Norman, their respective obsessions with Peter and Gwen fueling their partnership for the length of the scheme, which ultimately culminated in Norman killing Ben and causing Mary Jane to lose her child.
Ben dying there still wasn’t the end of the torments that he had in store for the clone, however. Miles Warren refined the cloning process to enable the retention of memories past death, and cloned Ben anew from the scant biological material left behind when the Green Goblin ended Ben’s life. With Ben’s memories persisting even through the veil of death, he killed the clone over and over, gathering data, formulating information on Peter, and just generally enjoying the torment he was inflicting.
When Ben finally escaped this torture, the mentally-warped clone turned the tables on him, repeatedly cloning Miles Warren to the point that neither of them could be sure who was the original real one and who were just worthless clones. With that, Ben stole control away from Warren and became The Jackal himself, ramping up cloning production and setting out on a scheme to trivialize death itself.
Naturally, Peter Parker and the rest of the assembled Spider-People were able to put a stop to The Jackal, ending his scheme and causing him to suffer the accelerated effects of clone degeneration. After his own narrow, death-defying escape, Ben destroyed the last remaining remnants of the Jackal persona and made an attempt to move forward as the Scarlet Spider once again, though still undeniably twisted from the torments he suffered and inflicted alike.

You know, the thing that gets me the most emotional about Ben Reilly was when he was possessed by Carnage. Th boy tried so hard to still do the right thing and was even willing to lock himself away if it meant keeping Carnage from hurting people. :(
Seriously. He would rather stay dead than become a villain. Such a tragedy what’s happened to him. At least now it seems that marvel will really keep him on the good alignment. Thought back to what you said, I can’t help but love how you call him “boy” because he was biologically like 5 years old when that happened. It’s cute and truly I’m sure I’m gonna be emotional when I reach that part of my clone saga re-read.

Possible Future Suits for Insomniac’s Spider-Man.
1/4 Peter Parker Traditional Suit
As the title suggests, I wanted to put together a few alternate suits for Spidey to wear in the much anticipated sequel to the 2018 hit.
As I’m focusing specifically on the Insomniac game, some of these suits may have apeared in previous games, such as Shattered Dimensions, it’s sequel Edge of Time, or the two Amazing Spider-Man movie tie in games, all of which featured a variety of alternate skins for its playable Spider-Men.
Also note that since the Black Suit has so much variety on its own, that I’ll be saving that for another list.
1. Superior Spider-Man
Tumblr media
A story that was initially met with reservation, the Superior Spider-Man has none the less become quite popular. So popular in fact that Otto Octvius of the comics was given a thirty second redemption arc to set him up for a move to San Francisco to continue in his own self title, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this suit were in the game, or if they set up for a third game in the series featuring a Superior Spider-Man based storyline, especially given that they’ve already established Doc Ock as suffering a degenerative disease.
2. Previous Animated Spider-Men
Tumblr media
There have been many animated adaptations of Spidey throughout the years, and even within my life time. Most of these suits are based closely on the classic design, with only minor differences, such as a distinct spider symbol on the chest, or the presence or absence of the arm webs at various sizes. These could be accomplished in much the same way as the Vingatge Suit or the Spider Clan Suit, giving them an animated appearance. One suit that would stand out on its own would be the suit from Spider-Man Unlimited. The short lived series wasn’t as well received or as fondly remembered as some of Spidey’s other animated ventures, even ending on a cliffhanger after one season, but the suit is nonetheless a distinct design.
3. Spider-Carnage
Tumblr media
One that could easily be mixed into the previous, given that it’s first appearance, to my knowledge, was in Spider-Man: The Animated Series, Spider-Carnage was nonetheless so unique as to warrant an entry to itself. A version of Peter Parker, or Ben Reiley depending on the source material, that became host to the Carnage Symbiote, and was consequently corrupted, the nightmare fuel alone makes it worthy of an appearance.
4. Spiders-Man
Tumblr media
One of the odder and creepier doppelgängers met during the Spider-Geddon story line, Spiders-Man is a swarm of thousands of spiders, who’s hive mind have taken on the consciousness of Peter Parker after they…ate him. Yeah, it’s a wackier entry, but one that I’d like to see realised in game form. The best way to accomplish this suit would be to take the classic suit, and make it look like the surface is crawling (if that’s even possible), while he constantly sheds little spiders.
5. Sensational Ben Reiley Spider-Man (Scarlett Spider-Man?)
Tumblr media
A version of the suit worn by Ben Reiley during his tenure as Spider-man, it adds some Scarlett Spider aspects, such as the large web-shooters, with the classic design to create something new.
6. Scarlett Spidercide
Tumblr media
Although Spidercide himself (pictured left) would make for a worthy skin, I specifically wanted to draw attention to the suit worn by Ben Reiley when he first arrived in Las Vegas after his fall from grace in The Clone Conspiracy. Stolen by Ben from a cosplayer (he wasn’t at his moral best), Ben actually tried to operate once again as Scarlett Spider in this constume, only to be told by a vigilante dressed in Ben’s classic Scarlett Spider costume that it looks like a Spidercide fusion (hence the name here), prompting Ben to steal the vigilante’s costume, which he used for the remainder of that volume, and right up until Spider-Geddon. Despite how short lived the costume was I rather liked it, and would like to see it featured among the other Scarlett Spider costumes.
7. Assassin Spider-Man
Tumblr media
A version of Peter that went down a much darker path, after the loss of everyone that he loved, Peter worked with Wolverine to track down his enemies and bring them to a more lethal kind of Justice, all while receiving training that brought his abilities, particularly his Spider-Sense to their absolute peak.
8. Spider-Kid (Charlie Parker)
Tumblr media
A bit rougher than some other versions of Spider-Man, though not to the same degree as the previous entry. This version of Peter Parker didn’t have as nice a relationship with his Uncle Ben, who was abusive, leading him to run away and change his name. He does try to do the right thing on occasion, but is much more cynical about it, and a bit hypocritical, robbing the criminals he takes down to pay for his lifestyle. I’ll be honest. I mostly want to see them animate the hair in motion.
9. The Slingers (Prodigy, Dusk, Richochet, and Hornet)
Tumblr media
A series of alternate costumes worn by Peter Parker after the Spider-Man identity became temporarily unsusable after he was accused of murder. These costumes and identities have since been taken over by others who became a team known as the Slingers, but there’s no denying that they started with Spidey, and I’d love to have them, just for the Variety.
10. Cosmic Spider-Man
Tumblr media
Also known as Captain Universe, this is the result of Peter Parker merging with the entity known as the Uni-Power. This is literally Spider-Man at his most powerful, effectively entering the God tier.

Death and the Jackal: Why Miles Warren sees himself as a God
Tumblr media
Let me state my ‘thesis’ up front.
It’s my belief that, within his own twisted mind, Miles Warren believes himself as not dissimilar to a creator God.
This hinges upon his cloning and genetic experiments.
In publication order Miles Warren was driven mad when Gwen Stacy died. He had obsessively ‘loved’ her from a distance and displayed a degree of passive aggression towards Peter out of jealousy. As I touched upon in my last article, he was devastated by her death to the point where he sought to ‘resurrect her’ through cloning.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
During the flashback to the moment he cloned Gwen, his dialogue reveals three interesting facts.
He promised to punish those who ‘harmed her’. Not her original ‘host’. Not her predecessor. Not her metaphorical ‘sister’ or her ‘mother’. Just ‘her’. He clearly views the clone Gwen as actually being Gwen restored to life.
This is further corroborated by the second point of interest. Namely, his referring to cloning Gwen as ‘re-creating’ her.
Finally, his dialogue also arguably touches upon the idea of Adam and Eve. Gwen emerges naked and ‘innocent’ her mind is blank and unsullied. As originally intended perhaps that’s a bit of a stretch. But the idea is leant far more weight in the Spider-Man: The Osborn Journal #1, where Warren stated it was ‘positively Biblical’ that the first successful clone was a man, consequently name-dropping Adam and the Garden of Eden fame.
Tumblr media
This clone was of course of Peter Parker.
Between the Gwen and Peter clones it would make a lot of sense for Warren’s ego to have gone waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of control.
In his own eyes his genius had not only functionally restored a dead person to life, but also gone a step further and outright duplicated someone still alive. As we know from later stories (such as the original ‘Carrion’ storyline) Warren in fact cloned himself. Wouldn’t that have been the ultimately proof of his mastery of life itself?
In addition to the above he can even exist in more than one place. Or if you will, exist as multiple entities at once. This was further confirmed in Web of Spider-Man #125 and Spectacular Spider-Man #225. In these issues we learn that Warren had set up a clone of himself as the husband of the original Gwen clone.
Tumblr media
When the intervention of Peter and (the Phil Urich) Green Goblin ruined their suburban tranquility, Warren was furious that his ‘innocent little fantasy’ had been spoiled.
Tumblr media
At least on some level Warren clearly viewed his clone as himself. One entity as many entities? That’s such an impossibility for normal human beings it’d be more than likely to inflate your sense of ego, possibly all the way to Godlike proportions.
And, correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that somewhat similar to the Holy Trinity in the Christian faith? Three aspects of the same divine entity? One being in more than one part?
Warren’s cloning experiments went further though. In Spec #31 Carrion (who possessed all of Warren’s genius) used Peter’s DNA to genetically engineer a Spider-Amoeba creature.
Tumblr media
Furthermore, in Spec #222 we see Warren unleash a horde of creatures from his ‘genetic soup’.
Tumblr media
And of course, there was Spidercide. In the Jackal Files one shot Warren tells Spidercide (yet another clone of Peter’s) that he gave him the ability to control his body on a molecular level.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In terms of their super human abilities, Spidercide was by all accounts more powerful than Peter or any of the other clones. Warren didn’t just copy Peter yet again. In his own eyes he improved  upon him.
All these examples demonstrate how Warren had the ability o play with the building blocks of human life, and contort it into unnatural forms of his own design.
This would naturally have inflated his ego yet further and helps explain his scheme in ‘Maximum Clonage’.* His plan was to mass murder humankind and replace it with clones. From a sane and rationale point of view this goal is nonsensical.
But that was rather the point, Warren wasn’t sane or rationale.
In his eyes life was merely worth the time, effort and resources it’d take for him to clone someone.** From his own twisted point of he was a God, a master of death, a creator of life. He could replicate, resurrect and improve upon nature itself. So, why not start over with a clean slate? Isn’t that what God did with that flood once upon a time?
Additionally let’s consider that, however bad they were, other stories have touched upon the idea of the Jackal as a kind of godlike figure.
In Scarlet Spider Unlimited #1 he was affiliated with the High Evolutionary, who arguably also views himself as a kind of God due to his own genetic experiments. In that same story we discovered that there was a cult among the High Evolutionary’s Ani-men that worshipped Warren as a sacred savior.
Tumblr media
In ‘Clone Conspiracy’ we see that Warren designed himself a new mask evoking Anubis, one of the Egyptian Gods of death. Whilst it was Ben Reilly who actually wore this costume, the fact that Warren himself invented lends credence to my thesis’.
Tumblr media
In conclusion, though much of his history is dogged by shoddy (to say the least) stories, there is nevertheless psychological substance to be found within the mad mind of Miles Warren.
*I’m not trying to defend that storyline.
In my opinion it is one of the absolute nadirs of Spider-History, especially the final Omega issue.  Among its other sins, it was an objectively terrible idea to take a character that began as a humble college professor with grounded ambitions and upscale him into a potentially global threat.
It’s as creatively short sighted as having Superman end nuclear war ala Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. Or having Batman control crime by having one of his agents unite all the gangs; see the ‘War Games’ storyline.
Like those stories, whilst it might be theoretically possible  for the characters to want and be capable of doing those things, they shouldn’t.
**Which is probably why he was nonplussed by a room full of Gwen Stacy clones degenerating in front of him. He knew there were more where that came from.

hope they make it in this world.
the basics —
NAME: kaine parker
ALIASES: scarlet spider, houston’s spider-man, araña escarlata,
AGE: 19
BIRTHDAY & ZODIAC: doesn’t have one & gemini
MBTI: entj
PREFERRED PRONOUNS: he & him
FACECLAIM: noah centineo
a deeper look —
FAMILY: miles warren (creator/father), peter parker (genetic template/brother), ben reilly (fellow clone/brother), may parker (aunt), spidercide (fellow clone, deceased), guardian (fellow clone, deceased), jack (fellow clone, deceased), spider-skeleton (fellow clone, deceased)

THREE HATED THINGS: his “father”, computers, being called a hero
EDUCATION: possesses memories of peter’s education
SKILLS: HAND-TO HAND COMBAT: uses an unusual type of free-style technique similar to that of spider-man, but has no qualms against fighting in a more brutal style MULTILINGUAL: can speak english, spanish, and japanese   KNOWLEDGE OF CHEMISTRY.
WEAPONS: a blade that extends out of each wrist of his suit
ABILITIES: MARK OF KAINE: has a deformity in his hands. he can leave a severe burn mark on a person by making skin-to-skin contact with them. he typically leaves this mark across a person's face, though it is presumed he can do the same to other parts of the body. non-offensive usage of this power allows Kaine to easily burn his long hair (along with his beard) to a shorter length without burning himself in the process. ORGANIC WEBBING GENERATION: the ability to produce his own silk webbing from glands within his forearms. PSYCHIC ALIGNMENT WITH SPIDERS: a method of creating a psychic alignment to become empathetic and develop a relationship with spiders and insects. essentially talking to them. IMMUNE TO SPIDER-MAN’S SPIDER-SENSE: due to their sharing the same dna, spider-man's spider-sense recognizes kaine as "self.” SUPERHUMAN STRENGTH: able to lift up to 60 tons. his strength extends into his powerful leg muscles, allowing him to leap heights and distances in excess of human capability. kaine generally has no restraints on using his super-strength against enemies with typical human durability, and as such, is capable of severely injuring enemies with normal attacks. SUPERHUMAN SPEED: capable of running and moving at speeds that are beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete. SUPERHUMAN STAMINA: kaine's augmented musculature is much more efficient than that of a normal human being. as a result, his muscles produce lesser amounts of fatigue toxins during physical activity than do those of ordinary humans. he can exert himself physically at peak capacity for at least several hours before the build up of fatigue toxins in his blood begins to impair him. SUPERHUMAN DURABILITY: his bodily tissues are resistant to powerful impact or blunt force trauma. he can withstand impacts, such as falling from several stories, being repeatedly struck with superhuman force or by several powerful energy blasts, that would severely injure or kill a normal human with little to no injury himself. REGENERATIVE HEALING FACTOR: his physiology was augmented with a limited healing factor. SUPERHUMAN AGILITY: kaine's agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete. in spite of his increased size and mass, kaine is still just as agile as spider-man. SUPERHUMAN REFLEXES: reflexes are similarly enhanced and are more efficient than those of an ordinary human by a factor of fifteen. WALL-CRAWLING: able to stick to virtually any surface and crawl across it. his mental control over this ability has been increased to such a degree, he can rip a wall down just by tugging at it hard enough with his palms.
the questionnaire —
WHAT IS SOMETHING YOUR CHARACTER LIKES ABOUT NEW GOTHAM? SOMETHING THEY DISLIKE? DO THEY MISS THE WAY THINGS WERE - OR DO THE LIKE HOW THE WORLD IS NOW? IS IT WEIRD TO THEM TO SEE MULTIPLE TYPES OF PEOPLE AND CREATURES AROUND? OR ARE THEY USED TO IT? WERE THEY ORIGINALLY FROM ONE OF THE TWO MAIN CITIES - OR SOMEWHERE ELSE?
kaine doesn’t care about seeing otht creatures around, not feeling like he has the right to make such judgments. he likes that being in new gotham is another chance to live an actual life. he had been through a lot of traumatic events, and never actually got the chance to enjoy the life he has been given. nobody expects anything from him here in this city which is perfect to blend in. he doesn’t think his life will ever be normal, always convincing himself to help out someone in need. he can just be kaine here if he wanted to. which is all the boy needs. kaine was created in a test tube somewhere in new york, but after making his escape from his creator after being rejected — the clone settled in houston, texas. he didn’t plan on staying there, but they had been so excited about having their own hero that eventually kaine stayed until the change happened. so yes, he does have a southern accent.
WHERE WAS YOUR CHARACTER WHEN EVERYTHING CHANGED? ARE THEY SUSPICIOUS OF EVERYONE OR ARE THEY TRYING TO REMAIN UNDER THE RADAR? HAVE THEY REUNITED WITH THEIR FRIENDS OR ARE THEY LOST? WERE THEY AT HOME IN BED? OUT PATROLLING THE STREETS? IN THE MIDDLE OF A WAR? WHAT’S HAPPENED TO THEM NOW?
kaine doesn’t trust anyone except a select few. it’s just part of his thing. his list of people he lowers his guard around is small — ben and peter being at the top of the list and any other members of the spiderfam that his brothers seem to trust. he has been rejected, and ridiculed for being made so he doesn’t know how to figure out who‘s actually being genuine with their kindness. he’ll get there, just be patient with him. kaine may be suspicious of strangers and their intentions, but he’s a good friend.
he was in bed when everything happened, passed out in his scarlet spider suit after helping out the local police on a case. he’s just kind of following around ben wherever he goes for now far as living arrangements go.

ANYTHING YOU WANT US TO KNOW? ANY HEADCANONS?
origin —
kaine is a clone of peter parker.
he was miles warren’s first attempt at cloning peter. the jackal initially thought it was a success, but kaine would become deformed due to a flaw in the cloning process. the boy would continue to degenerate — he was left deformed and mentally unstable.
the jackal allows the clone to live as a test subject. he wanted to see how long kaine would survive, and to his surprise ends up exceeding his expectations.
kaine grows to experience a strong feeling of rejection similar to one that would arise between a father and son. miles warren tries to dispose of the clone by throwing him into the trash heap of his other failed experiments. kaine ends up escaping of course, which made all the other clones in the facility happy to see. the spider developed some of peter’s abilities, but also some of his own.
for a long time kaine believes that he didn’t deserve to have a life for himself. he didn’t know how to have one. he felt broken, angry, and like a monster.
kaine made a decision to settle down in mexico, but ended up living in houston, texas instead. every time he tried to leave something pulled him into staying. the civilians are who started calling him the SCARLET SPIDER. he was their first hero — much to the clone’s hatred of that word. he tries to live up to what peter has done, but it’s a work in progress.
eventually kaine came across a cure that stabilized his dna. he was no longer deformed, and looks like the perfect clone of peter. miles warren continues to see kaine as a disappointment after this, still thinking that the clone deserves to stay in the trash heap.
he has a tattoo that wraps around his entire left bicep, and he stands tall at six foot four.
equipment —
kaine’s scarlet spider costume is known as a stealth suit. it allows him to become completely invisible and capable of sound cancelling abilities. the suit is also fireproof, and can heal itself when torn. there’s also a blade that can come out of the wrists of the suit which come in handy in hand-to-hand combat. he brought his suit with him since he was wearing it at the time when brought over.
