I saw someone mention awhile ago how Charles brags about being "the brawn" and then proceeds to get beat up for the rest of the season.

But that's WHY Charles is the brawn. He takes hits so that others don't have to. He stands between danger so that it hits him BEFORE it hits anyone else. Charles is less of a sword and more of a shield.

He was made to be pushed down and to get back up.

The dynamic between Edwin and Charles is so fascinating because the first episode explains their fighting style to us. Charles lets the ghost attack him while Edwin searches for spells. Charles gets the ghost to focus on hurting him so Edwin is safe.

Charles trusts Edwin to find the spell and stop the ghost. He doesn't fight so much as distract.

Charles never tries to hurt the ghost or even get him off because their goal isn't to hurt anyone. His goal is to get the mask for Edwin to use his spell and difuse the situation.

AND THEN ESTHER - Charles POSSESSES her so the others can run, knowing she's going to try and hurt him to get him out.

I could go on but I've been yapping for awhile.

“Charles!”

Charles feels the magic lock onto him, searing into his skin, into his incorporeal form. It doesn’t burn like fire, no it burns like ice and that makes it all so much fucking worse.

Charles grabs a hold of the slightly glowing magic, the leash, and yanks it as hard as he can.

It refuses to yield.

The collar digs hard into his neck, pressure and pain and the not-quite there feeling of fabric that Charles encounters every time he touches clothing of any kind.

The witch who cursed him is running, full sprint, hand out, reaching for the glowing tail of the leash attached to the collar around Charles throat-

Edwin is there first.

Grabbing a hold of the glowing leash, already speaking a language Charles doesn’t know. Magic then, a counterspell?

The leash doesn’t disappear, however, not like Charles thought it would with Edwin here helping him.

The witch sneers, jerking back, backtracking, and spits “Of course you’d want to control him”

Before Charles can figure out what that cryptic shit meant, Edwin bites back “Better than letting you decide his actions!”

Charles gets a very, very bad feeling what this collar spell might do.

It’s only confirmed, of course, when Edwin yanks lightly on the glowing leash and tells Charles “I need you to run, love.”

Without input from his brain, without input from anything but Edwin’s soft words, Charles begins to sprint away from the scene, to where they had stashed the mirror just outside the park they were fighting in, running right to the safe place of their office. Edwin as always right beside him.

Haunted City

Danny could admit that pretending to be a "regular ghost" was pretty fun. He could hide in one place and scare people who were waiting for an open door and a creepy laugh.

Honestly, Danny could do a lot more than that, the ghosts people believed in were nothing like the ones he knew. He wondered if there were simply different types of ghosts, or supernatural creatures; it was quite likely, considering that the ghosts of the Realms weren't even of the same dimension so it wasn't a fair comparison.

Anyway, the halfa had spent a couple of days "haunting" Gotham. The place was too leggy and they needed a little excitement in their lives. Of course, this led to some rumors about a spirit suffering or something similar, he didn't really care.

The "heroes" of Gotham didn't seem to share his opinion, going through all the places that had been "attacked" (they were just jokes) and looking for some explanation before calling Justice League Dark, Danny had fun scaring them a little in the process.

But he wasn't too interested in being exorcised, banished or whatever they did with rebel ghosts, so he settled on a mansion that was too big for its few inhabitants. Scaring billionaires was almost therapeutic, although the butler didn't seem too impressed by his (minimal) efforts.

I really can see him as a detective in some kind of noir movie, solving a murder case and saving you. But he is cold as ice of course, he won’t fall that easily for you. May be he’s drinking in some fancy bar or smoking in a dark alley.

A lot of people seem to think Charles’s internal bleeding was caused by the rocks being thrown at him, but considering how deep he was in the water that’s unlikely, the rocks wouldn’t have hit his torso particularly hard because the water would slow them down

It’s far more likely they beat him up before throwing him in the lake, which is what I always assumed. We see Charles in the water looking pretty resigned to what’s happening, like he’s just waiting for it to be over while trying not to get hit too hard by the rocks. It seems out of character for him to not fight back at all, so there had to have been at least a few minutes between the beginning of the attack and reaching the lake where they beat him into submission

not to make it serious for a sec but i genuinely think that being able to like things that are bad is really important. like I think that it's an important skill to be able to look at something and see what you personally enjoy about it and then take a step back and acknowledge that objectively it's flawed. and to also be able to acknowledge that liking something isn't necessarily an identity or a moral stance. and i think that fandom space in general could really benefit from more people taking the time to learn how to do that. it's okay to like things that are bad
