The F1blr Hypersoft Collab Fest (Hypersoft Fest for short) is an event by @f1blrcreatorsfest feat. @formulaonekinkmememeant, focusing on the visual artists of F1blr and with the objective to encourage writer and artist collaboration.
The theme is romance books and movies: we challenge you to make a book cover or a movie poster, and then we challenge the authors to write something about it.
Every week we will give you the themes, plus little bonus challenges.
If you have doubts on what to make, you can check our inspiration pinterest board.
You can sign up for the event HERE - this is useful for us to get a rough estimate of who is participating, and to eventually match up artists and writers. Of course, you can participate even if you don't sign up.
When? August 1st - September 26th + the entire month of October for eventual late submissions.
Artists: you can participate with any kind of media you prefer - fanart, graphics art, photo edits, photo manipulations, graphic design.
Writers: once the covers are out, you can choose one (or, potentially, be randomly matched up with an artist) and write something about it.
You can write:
- A book or movie blurb
- An excerpt from the book, one shot or multi chapter
- An extract from the movie script
- Fake reviews
- A whole novella (if you're brave enough)
The rules are few but simple:
Only F1 drivers, past and present. This means no other racing series, no WAGs, no celebrity pairings.
Ship and let ship.
Absolutely no hate towards your fellow creatives, both artists and writers.

The Loomis Radio School, Washington D.C. ca. 1921.
The school was located at 401 Ninth St. N.W. and operated with the call letters 3YA. By 1920 it was offering a six month course enabling the graduate to obtain a first grade commercial radio license and by January of 1922 was offering a four year course with a degree in Radio Engineering bestowed on graduates.
The school was founded by Mary Texanna Loomis, pictured in the last photo.
Born August 18, 1880 near Goliad, Texas. She was the second child born to Alvin Isaac and Caroline (Dryer) Loomis. Though born on homestead in Texas in 1880, by 1883 her parents had returned to Rochester NY and then on to Buffalo where Alvin became president of a large delivery and storage company. Little is known of her early years, but appears she had a fairly middle-class up bringing. She seemed well schooled, with an early interest in music and language (she mastered French, German and Italian) Her early years were spent in Buffalo, NY and she later relocated to Virginia.
During the early years of World War I, she became interested in the new field of wireless telegraphy. There was a family precedent; her cousin, Dr. Mahlon Loomis, had conducted early wireless experiments with moderate success and may in fact have been the first person, in 1865, to send and receive wireless signals.
Mary soon became proficient enough in wireless telegraphy to be granted a license by the United States Department of Commerce. Thoroughly fascinated with the field now called “radio”, she decided to turn her expertise into a career. Also, she wanted to do something that would honor her pioneering ancestor. Her idea was to do this by founding a radio school.
Though radio was indeed, for many years, a profession dominated by men, Mary Loomis around age 40 took no notice and in 1920 founded the Loomis Radio School in Washington, D.C. and it quickly gained an excellent reputation. Ms. Loomis set high standards for the school and it attracted students not only from the United States but Europe and Asia as well. Loomis enjoyed teaching as much as she enjoyed radio itself. In an interview, she said, “Really, I am so infatuated with my work that I delight in spending from 12 to 15 hours a day at it. My whole heart and soul are in this radio school.”
As president and Lecturer of the Loomis Radio School, Mary authored a definitive book on radio, named “Radio Theory and Operating.”
By January 1922 the school was offering a four year course with a degree in Radio Engineering bestowed on graduates. Loomis also intended that her students understand more than just the inner and outer workings of radio. In addition to a radio laboratory (with equipment constructed almost entirely by Mary herself), the school maintained a complete shop capable of teaching carpentry, drafting and basic electricity. She reasoned that many of her graduates might find themselves at sea, or in other challenging situations and she wanted them adequately prepared. “No man,” Ms. Loomis said, at the time, “can graduate from my school until he learns how to make any part of the apparatus. I give him a blueprint of what I want him to do and tell him to go into the shop and keep hammering away until the job is completed.”
The school appears to have been in existence at least through the early 1930's, but it has not been possible to find information after that.
In an interview given to H.O. Bishop of the Dearborn Independent in 1921, Mary was asked: “What sort of young men are taking up the radio profession?” to which she replied:
“The Kind who have grit and want to get there! Virtually all of them are ambitious and enthusiastic over the possibility of visiting every nook and corner of the world. My students are not only enrolled from various sections of the USA and Canada but from many foreign countries, such as Sweden, Ireland, England, Poland, Russia, Austria, Rumania and the Philippines. One of the brightest pupils I ever had was Prince Walimuhomed of Far-away Afghanistan. He was an extremely modest young man, keeping his real identity a secret until after graduating. He said he had no idea of earning his living by working at radio, but just wanted to know all about it. He does. You have no idea how much happiness I get out of the success of each individual graduate. My boys keep in touch with me from all parts of the world. Scarcely a day goes by that I do not get some trinket or postcard from some remote section of the world. I have made the wonderful discovery that the only way for me to get happiness for myself is to make some one else happy. I find that I am making these young men happy by teaching them every phase of the radio business so that they can earn a comfortable living for themselves and their dependents and at the same time, see the great big beautiful world.
As far as we can figure out, Mary Loomis left Washington D.C. around 1935 and moved to San Francisco where she worked as a stenographer. She died in 1960 and is interred at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Colma, CA.

Behind the scenes, our Creative Arts Archivist Max Goldberg has been busy this summer.
In August, Max spent five non-consecutive days at the Harvard Depository and went through all 270+ boxes in the Stephen Lee Taller/Ben Shahn Archive for the Fine Arts Library, which holds the collection of materials to the American artist Ben Shahn (1898–1969) compiled by Stephen Lee Taller.
Tumblr media
Dr. Taller was a friend of Ezra Shahn, Ben's oldest son. The archive contains thousands of items related to the artist's work, including books written by and illustrated by Ben Shahn, magazines in which his work was featured, exhibition and auction sales catalogs, commercial work such as book jackets, record jackets, and advertisements, interview transcripts, and newspaper clippings.
Tumblr media
As you can imagine from the sheer volume of this archive, it was a massive task to review the contents of all the boxes. Everything was cataloged at the item-level in a database by Dr. Taller, and Max estimates that there are approximately 10,000 items. We’re so grateful for all his hard work this summer. The first two photos in this post were taken by Max while he was working at the Harvard Depository, and the last image shows some examples from this archive.
Ben Shahn (1898–1969) was an American artist, best known for his works of social realism, his political activist work, and his series of lectures published as The Shape of Content. Through his work, Shahn challenged the status quo in the society, focusing on themes related to modern urban life, organized labor, immigration, and injustice, among others.
Today is Ben Shahn’s birthday.

Howdy! September is quite special for lucky cat Tabby because it marks a year since I joined Tumblr, my birthday, and moving out of the country for new land all at once.
I’m cleaning my barn and found some questionable items I've kept for a while and can’t pack with me. Decided to do a yard sale, the price? A fic! I'm a cat, I don't use real money. This is baby's first fic challenge. Now, it's quite simple: you choose between 1 to 3 items from my selling list, send me an ask with your order, and voilá, you are in.
⭐ Check out the challenge's masterlist!
WHAT AM I SELLING?
Choose up to 3 items between the 10 categories (in italics is what you will receive):
Homemade cassette tapes of forgotten lovers - an album
Old books from a dusty shelf - literature genre
Posters that I had in my room when kitten - pic inspo
Travel memorabilia - a place (it can be a city or a more general place)
DVDs I forgot to return to Blockbuster - a quote
Power tools I bought to make DIYs I never did - a profession
Photo album of the barn's previous owner - a situation
*The* one bed - a couple trope
Outfits I’ve grown out of and can't use - a Pedro boy
Plushie collection - a wildcard
THE RULES
1. Send an ask with your order of 1 up to 3 items from August 31st until September 3rd. There are 15 slots for this challenge.
2. Go absolutely wild! Use the items as you prefer, no rules here for it. You are buying them, after all.
3. When you are done, tag me in your fic and use the #TabbysYardSale hashtag so I can find it. Upload your fic until October 31st, but if you need extra time or if something happens along the way, don't worry, let me know!
4. Have fun. Write smut, fluff, angst, you do you. No word limit, It's a writing challenge: I want you to feel motivated by it and beaming with confidence.
See ya, lucky cat 🐾

THEME LIST
FANTASY LIFE HOUSE DECORATION CHALLENGE
Here's the list of themes I've come up with:
January: Home. Take a photo of your home in FL as it looks now
February: Nature theme. You can make your house look like a rustic cabin, a farm or even a garden or a forest or whatever you can think off.
March: Fancy/Elegant/Royal theme.
April: Seasonal theme. Make your house give seasonal vibes of the season of your choice
May: Room of a character. Choose a Fantasy Life character (or someone from another game/movie/book/etc) and imagine what their room would look like.
June: Make your house look like a store or restaurant!
July: Beach/Ocean theme.
August: Recreate a scene from a game/movie/book/etc.
September: Show off! What items are your favorites, or you're the proudest of? Use all those trophies proof of all your achievements and use them to decorate your house or turn it into a museum!
October: Spooky theme!
November: Festivity of your choice. Decorate your house using a festivity of your choice as your inspiration.
December: Home again! Take a photo of your home as it looks now, to see how much it's changed with all the ideas and items you got
Bonus themes
In case you don't have enough items or any good ideas for one of the monthly themes, you can instead do one of these:
Set-centric: decorate your house using only items from one set
Monochromatic: decorate your house using only items of 1 or 2 colors
Try to recreate your room irl in FL
Try to recreate the room of one of your characters in other videogames in FL
Decorating tips!
Some special items in the game (including some cool furniture) can only be obtained via typing a certain password in the post office. If you didn't know about this, look it up! The rewards will come very in handy for the decoration challenge
You can dye some furniture by going to Florina's House in the West Grassy Plains and speaking with Lily Lips.
Other stuff
If anyone can come up with more themes, feel free to suggest them in the comments of this post
Since we're already into January, that's why I'm making the first theme to take a pic of your house now!
The furniture selection in FL is more limited that other games such as Animal Crossing, that's why I avoided to have as a main theme decorating using only a certain set and went for themes that would require the use of lots of different types of furniture
Besides the usual tags, I'll also be using the tag #FLHDC if anyone else that participates also wants to add that tag to their posts!
I'm going to tag in a comment in this post the people that were interested! (sorry for the @ hehe)
