#MarchMeetTheMaker Day 10 | Authentic space This is my sewing corner. Sometimes I wish I had a big sewing room just for me, with shelves of fabric and color-coordinated thread on the wall. I would also have colorful yarn on display. Mannequins and clothes racks for all my finished products and perfect light for photographing 🥰 oh one can dream right? For now this is actually quite convenient. This corner is in our living room and I cut my fabric on the living room table. The table in the dinning room holds work that has gone through a bisque fire and will function as a space for me to apply wax resist to pieces. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Sometimes I clean up before I work and other times I scoot things out of the way to work.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ I would say there is a balance of mess and tidy-mess in my making madness 😄. A U T H E N T I C. S P A C E . My studio space is multi functional which means there's a lot of getting stuff out and putting stuff away many times during a day. I spend the morning doing admin and dog walkies. Then mid morning early afternoon I paint. Then I have to take the doggy home before my art classes which means packing away all my art before the studio is filled with children creating an array of art! Then that all gets packed away and tidied up. Sometimes if I'm on a deadline I'll get all my art out again to continue painting into the evening. This is why most of my art supplies live in a box at the back of the studio. . When I start a new piece of art I tend to get out ALL my paint brushes and test the marks they make and how they might influence my work with each colour watercolour. Day 10: Today's prompt for #marchmeetthemaker is Authentic Space...and nothing is more authentic than the super messy basement floor of the papermaking studio after we start making a huge batch of recycled paper. The shreddy bits are all over and since there isn't a ton of ventilation down there, we try not to sweep that often because it just makes the air really dusty. Authentic Studio #Marchmeetthemaker2020 Day 10, Authentic space: My studio is small. It’s just my dining room and kitchen space, which are right next to each other. My supplies are creatively stores away in drawers and glass jars, but my brushes are always out. Even my colored pencils are out, displayed like a vase of flowers, ready for a sketch. I’m surrounded by plants, nature findings, and inspirational art. My shelves are filled with art books, nature books , sketch books, and illustrated children’s books. I am surrounded by trees outside, with the sunrise out my front window and sunset out the back kitchen window. My pets keep me company through out the day, and the dogs and I explore nature on our walks during our breaks, to get inspiration. Authentic spaces lead to authentic making. I’ve built my studio up over the last 14 years. It has been lots of making do and ingenuity to get to the point where it has just about everything I need for making. But the studio and the tools are just things. It’s the ideas, the practice, the years of failures that have developed a mind to make the work. All the tools in the world are of no use if there is no mind to guide them. And truly that is the most authentic space, our mind. It’s where the ideas spring forth, where critiques occur and where problems are solved. Wow, I really don't do a good job of keeping up with how long STAH has been around. We still have to tear your tickets (I don’t know why, but we do), so you still have to wait in line for an usher to scan, print, and tear said tickets. These tickets get printed on receipt paper. So unlike regular tickets, these aren’t designed to tear easily.

So until theaters can get with the times and have a better way to track your digital ticket, please stop.
