When this is over, he never wants to see or hear from Steve again.

From the inbox - asks about canon verse fics, #2

There’s a backlog of unanswered asks in our ask box and since answering them privately takes a lot of time without any guarantee that the answer will actually be delivered, I decided to answer some asks that would benefit a wider audience here. 

Hi! Thank you for this blog I love it!! I am trying to find some of the very first fanfics written when Lazarus Rising aired, or at least early season 4. Any recs?? Thank you!! 

Gosh, that was September 18, 2008. As the story goes, first destiel fics were being posted on LJ merely hours after Cas’s magnificent entrance on the show. Destiel ship manifesto Because God Commanded it: Dean/Castiel was posted in February, 2009. The first Dean/Castiel community developed on LiveJournal and that’s were theoretically you’d be looking except LJ is crumbling, accounts are being deleted. Some authors have back ups on Dreamwidth, some have transferred their fics to AO3 (backdated or not). Some fics are lost forever. ;(

Here’s how you can find older fics on our blog.

I. Start with our Tags Page. We have season tags - #season 4, #season 5, #season 6 (up to season 12). Go through the pages, the older the page, the older the fic recced on it. There’s also plenty of mini fic rec lists on specific asks. Same goes for this blog - to find older fic, browse the blog from the first page onwards.

II. Know your authors. When you find a fic you like, check out the author’s profile, they may have older fics. On June 2014 our chief mod @mbrry posted an extensive First wave destiel authors list with a treasure trove of links. Unfortunately, those links are long gone (thanks tumblr, good job) but the info is still there. You just will have to do your own digging. A thing to remember - not all authors transferred their destiel fic to AO3 even if they have an account for other fandoms; not all authors backdated their fics. It’s always worth to open the fic and see if there’s an author’s note saying something like “First posted 2010, LiveJournal”, sometimes even the same author will have both types of fic, backdated and older fic posted recently just with an a/n.

So, to help you navigate a list with 96 names, here are selected authors who have their canon verse destiel fics on AO3 and are recced on our blog. You can search their names on the blog via our search engine (desktop only) to find the reviews.

We have received suggestion from @hepalien to start with the first pages of Castiel/Dean Winchester tag which have first destiel fics posted in September 18, 2008. This is a good method if you want to stick only to AO3. However, most likely these fics are transferred from LJ and backdated, since AO3 was founded only in September 2008, and launched in open beta in November 2009.

This is from Cas' POV and gets romantic and hopeful toward the end. This is canon compliant up to the season 9 finale. Castiel is powered down and has human drives like sex and sleep. Dean dominates him but does not hurt him.

I'm not usually a huge fan of subby!cas because it usually feels ooc to me, but this is. I'm. This is just... Yes. Really hot. Warning for dubious consent at the beginning.

Wow. This was RIDICULOUSLY long and I can't really believe I finished it. Regardless of the intimidating length (heh), it was a captivating story. Though it edged near soap opera levels of drama at times, the plot was sure, the characters grew and developed, and the writing was excellent. Very good read--highly recommended. Perhaps not for the sensitive (in regards to Drugs or abuse). Also not for john!stans.

OMG AMAZING!! Wizarding World AUs are the best, and this muggle/magical person romance is super sweet.

This fic was AMAZING. I want to wrap it up in a blanket and cuddle it. Maybe hump it or something. Idk, I'm flexible.

Soon after that, he discovers that making friendships with other patients in the hospital and developing feelings for Cas might be what he really needed to get through this all along.

ahhsgahahhHhhh I loved this so much! It manages to be weirdly fluffy and feel-good even though it deals with majorly angsty stuff (mental ward, hello).

Sure enough, it works. The only problem?

Steve's head over heels for Tony Stark, a handsy drunk, and more than just a little into the way Tony's shorter than him.

Get me through December by marinarusalka: Steve is in Washington. Tony is in New York. Somehow, they still manage to make a connection, which comes in handy when Steve gets depressed around Christmas.

Jan Van Crime! by MemoryDragon ( @memorydragon ): Jan is upset about the new Ant-Man movie that she doesn't feature in, and she plans to become a Super Villainess to make herself more relevant. It also means making a new outfit, which she is super excited for. Carol and Tony want to help cheer her up, while T'Challa agrees that diversity in movies and merchandise is a worthy cause.

Steve would be all on board as well, but turning to super-villainy is not the answer. Neither is Tony being Jan's love interest. Definitely not Tony being Jan's love interest. Both are valid points of concern.

Ray’s Horror, Urban Fantasy, and Standard Fantasy Rec List

Summary: Maybe it’s the little girl whose disappearance turned into a murder, and whose murder turned into a cold case, and who has now apparently decided to move in with him. Maybe it’s the unacceptable hole left in his life when his dumb best friend and partner in (the prevention of) crime decided to go and get himself killed. Maybe it’s his brother, whose high-profile career and fantastic girlfriend and first-child-on-the-way are steadily leaving Dean in the dust. Pick one. Pick all of them. The why doesn’t matter so much as the what, and thewhat is this: Dean is pretty sure he’s going completely, certifiably insane. Sure, he hasn’t started wearing all his clothes inside out, and he still showers on a regular basis (anyways, that’s not crazy, just a little eccentric); but there’s no getting around the fact that he just threw away his life, his career, and his reputation by dragging out his mom’s old necromancy book and summoning a Class A Forbidden Entity to his attic. A cranky one, too. With horrendous bed-head.

Summary: While experimenting with magic when he was a kid, Sam accidentally cursed Dean.  Now, Dean is forced to wear a spelled amulet constantly, or he’ll turn into a random animal.  For a little over a decade, he’s learned to live with the curse, and has even found it useful in some cases, but he sure would be happier without it.  

When he meets a witch named Castiel, he’s offered a deal.  Instead of assuming all witches are bad, Dean can spend a season getting to know him.  If at the end of the season, Dean still thinks he’s evil Castiel will send him away with his memory wiped of the whole experience.  But if he learns that Castiel is not the monster Dean assumes he is, he’ll lift Dean’s curse.

It’s an offer Dean can’t bring himself to pass up.

Hey :) I just saw your previous ask and do you have any fic where Tony's convinced the team hates him? (Pre-cw) I love them too ^^

Hi there! Let me start by congratulating you for your fantastic taste lol. I wasn’t sure if you meant whether I have written such a fic or whether I can rec any, so I’ll just go with both, hope you don’t mind!

I’ve written one fic that might meet these criteria, which you can find here. (It’s a high school AU but otherwise it absolutely fits.)

Now as for others I can recommend:

and you needed someone to show you the way by SailorChibi: This precious gem is basically 25k of Tony revealing how little he thinks of himself whilst kidnapped, and a very pissed off team coming to his rescue. There’s also a pretty side-dash of soulmate angst. I also recommend Tony Stark, Pokemon Trainer (nobody appreciates how much Tony does for the team) and hold the things you wanna say (in which Tony works himself into exhaustion because he doesn’t consider himself part of the team) from the same author

First Impressions and Second Chances by lilsmartass: A beautiful, heartbreaking series in which the Avengers do in fact start out bullying Tony until things come to a head- and then have to deal with the fall-out. (There’s a happy ending, I promise!)

Breathe by Avengerz: In which a villain buries Tony alive and convinced the team won’t come to save him. I almost died reading the first part (and would’ve offered the author my soul for the second one, but it was written before I got the chance.)

Not a special snowflake by Annehiggins: Tony rants to his kidnappers about all the reasons why he’s a worthless hostage- only the Avengers hear it too, and they are not impressed. I just love this concept.

Irreplaceable by orphan_account: Another kidnapping in which Tony’s convinced he isn’t needed. The team begs to differ.

Infinite Disaster by Waterfall_Creek97: Pretty much same premise as the two above, a kidnapped Tony who’s sure the team hates him.

And the Sky is Grey by Teyke: This involves a serious misunderstanding between Steve and Tony that gets out of hand. Also contains a protective JARVIS, which is in itself worth the read.

Somebody’s Hero by EternalSheWolf: I gotta be honest, this one isn’t a Tony-thinks-the-team-hates-him fic but it is a Tony-doesn’t-think-anyone-will-ever-come-for-him fic and all sorts of amazing, you should definitely give it a shot!
