Chapter 16: Rising From the Ashes

Azula in this turns most of what she feels into anger, a quiet and cold anger, but anger nonetheless (she's taught that anger is what fuels firebending, and she needs to be the strongest firebender in history).

Azula is my blorbo, my little dragon, half of my fic ideas have her deeply traumatized, terribly injured or just actually dead.

Azula loses her pack, her destined mate and her cub. So she dresses up as the Kemurikage and basically goes out there taking orphan cubs and raising them with other people that lost as much as her. They're an unofficial pack (because neither her or the other alphas can claim a pack after their trauma), hurt adults taking care of children so these pups will never be hurt like them. See, I can make it heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time.

I'll send a different ask about the whole "Mai loves or doesn't love Azula" of this AU (and actually of all the AUs where Maizula is a thing but Mai still betrays her).

The Boiling Rock is the worst day in Azula's life, poor girl.

Here's the thing: it's as happy as I can give Azula in this context. Because she'll never be "normal", not with childhood trauma, war trauma, asylum trauma. She's inherently a tragic character, her happy ending can be bittersweet at best.

Mai is pretty hurt, but she can understand. She knows that Azula even giving her a chance is much, much more than what she deserves after the boiling rock. So then Azula marries her, is willing to have a couple of kids, be present and ask for nothing but the possibility of Mai not leaving her again. Despite her bad days, despite the past, Azula is a good parent, a good mate, and Mai is thankful that Azula is in her life.

The thing with Zuko is that even breaking the bond, there's still something there, deep down. Zuko was the first person Azula claimed, the first person she wanted to protect. She still loves Ozai, after everything. She still loves Zuko, after everything. It's unconditional, her love is unconditional. All you need to do is exist. And Zuko regrets for the rest of his life for not loving her the same way, for being the person that abandoned her pack twice and being the reason she's so closed to having a pack again.

Yes. In this Aang is the first to come around and understand what she feels, since he also lost his entire pack (I'm not sure what he is, but losing a pack does affect anyone). The circumstances are different, but it's the same sense of broken emptiness. They meditate together a lot, silently grieving together. Aang is the closest to someone she feels safe around. A less tragic version and they'd be platonic mates, bonding over loss and mutual peace.

(I just really like post-war Azula befriending Aang.)

They meditate a lot together, they cry together in silence... they get drunk together while listening to bands, they almost get high on marijuana... it's difficult. 😮‍💨

In this and that version Mai gets a little jealous, but she doesn't make a fuss because Aang is the other side of Azula's coin.

Rise from the Ashes

Angstpril 2024: Day 5 (366 words)

Lin managed to keep from shaking until she got inside her apartment. But once the door was closed, her briefcase and keys slid from her hands to crash against her boots, yet again. She ejected her armor from her person, allowing it to crash into a heap in the corner.

The shock of shattered expectations pulled her shoulders down and made it hard to breathe.

Was a night in with her… partner? lover? girlfriend? 

She brought her hands to her face. Her feelings and thoughts whirled and tumbled in her mind, impossible to catch and examine. The sense of wetness stole up under her fingers before she realized she was crying.

All she had wanted was a quiet evening. A little dinner, the radio program, and an early night of cuddling. Maybe even a little talking about their time apart.

But no. 

They’d both had a terrible day, both taken it out on each other, and then.

Then her ill-advised attempt to connect with Eboshi led to disaster.

She had backpedaled to the sounds of Eboshi’s anguished screams. Her case had come flying at her command, only to knock against the wall when Lin kept it from hurting the other woman.

Eboshi would fix the dress. She was sure of that. Lin remembered Eboshi talking about her early days taking commissions for clothes, and the number of times she had pricked her own fingers. 

She would fix the dress. It was just the stress of the day that came spilling out.

Wasn’t it?

The dress. Eboshi was mad about not being able to see the dress in all of its final glory.

Maybe that was something Lin could do something about.

A quick phone call arranged for a hired car to pick them both up tomorrow evening. Another phone call arranged for a fresh flower crown for Eboshi to wear. Yet another phone call confirmed to the hosts that Lady Beifong would be bringing an extra guest and would be perfectly happy to compensate the staff for making the adjustments to everything at the gala.

Maybe, just maybe, Lin could make an apology big enough to let her rise from the ashes of her clumsy mistake.

Vitality didn't know what the hell was going on anymore. The past several hours had been a complete and utter whirlwind. She couldn't bring herself to go back to the Adminspace, purely because of what that prophet had said.

That damned coyote..

Vitality barley hears the doors as they open and the ensuing conversation.

Idly, she rubs her neck as she looks out the window. Her eyebrows furrow, seeing the sky darken a bit. Thunder distantly rumbled.

Her peacock feathers shuddered as she felt a jolt in the air. What-?

"You have to be kidding." Valiant's horrified voice brings Vitality out of her thoughts. She looks over, and her eyes widen, seeing the Pokémon, Ash, and his friends, but no Tama.

Oh no.

"Tama can't be- That can't be what happened-" Nimbus sounded panicked as she shook her head.

A pit grows in Vitality's stomach as she makes her way over. She half listens to the conversation at hand before nothing Hoopa - and how ill he looks.

"Oh goodness," she murmurs as she takes the Pokémon from Ash. "What's happened to him?"

"Absol said that it looked like all the teleporting that was going on was messing with him," Ash explains with a worried frown.

Vitality nods and, like a clock, she begins to work-

Only to freeze.

"No." She whispers as she feels that familiar code.

"Vitality?"

Ash's questioning tone barely registers as her own code gently pricks and prods at what's afflicting Hoopa. Clearing it all away, with more haste than is necessary.

It can't be his, it can't be!

He was meant to be gone, dead and gone!

The ground beings to rumble, and everyone stumbles, trying to keep their balance.

Vitality's gaze snapped to the window.

And her heart sinks, seeing the sky turn a sickly green.

Above the seal of Unus, kneels Tiresias and the frozen Tama.

"Monster," the prophet hisses to Damien. "Monster."

Damien can only smile as he draws a dagger.

Blood splatters, and the seal shatters.

okay so i've been thinking a LOT about the next avatar sequel , 'avatar: the seed bearer' and , as we all know , if you don't then SPOILER ALERT , neteyam is going to (most likely) be resurrected on that film + the protagonists will meet a new tribe called the ash people .

that is enough for me to make one hundred scenarios between neteyam and a member of the ash people (maybe the first child of their olo'eyktan), i've even picked out a name for them , i'm so invested in this !

p.s.: james cameron said that he will take a different direction w the ash people from what he did w the omaticaya & metkayina , he wants the na'vi as 'bad guys' this time , so imagine . . . the enemies -> lovers i'm dead

The SMG Trios of Origins Interrupted

Barry

The protagonist of a block pushing puzzle game called "Blook"

A cute little red square guy with mitten hands, big blocky eyebrows, thick vertical lines for eyes, and a cute little one tooth overbite

In modern day he has a permanent scowl, full eyes with beady pupils and prominent eyebags, and is always wearing a grey fedora-trenchcoat combo. Still has the cute overbite though.

Was originally a friendly, helpful little buddy who cheered the player on, and becoming the Avatar turned him into an insane idiotic asshole like Season 1 Mario.

Due to a lack of positive influences, by the time he managed to get his new personality under control he'd managed to drive away everyone who'd ever cared about him, turning him bitter and jaded

Only found out about all the Meme Cycle stuff after that, causing him to abandon his home universe and set off on a crusade against the SMG Program

Absolutely hates memes, and especially hates that his Avatar status gives him the inescapable compulsion to use them

SMG17 and SMG18

Preferred to keep to themselves, hence why they weren't involved in Barry's life until after he hit rock bottom and began to hate them

They don't really show up outside of flashbacks, so all that's really known about them is that 17 is green and 18 is pink

Ash Ketchum

Since Barry's meddling means he doesn't get memed until near the end of the arc, he acts exactly the same as in canon

Is surprisingly okay with the fact that winning will turn him into a chaotic idiot

Can already use some memes even though he's not the Avatar yet, similarly to how Meggy can occasionally use memes despite not really Getting them

Uses his Unova outfit because I like it the most, but in terms of memories, experience and available Pokemon he's from after the last episode of Aim to be a Pokemon Master

Is 17 because fuck you canon there's no way he's still ten after all that you can't do that much stuff in less than a year. Really even 17 feels like I'm lowballing it a bit, but I wanted him to still be at "technically a kid" age for extra "excuse me what the fuck" points when everyone else finds out what his life is like

Got a little bit zapped by one of the Pods when Barry was stealing them to suppress the Meme Wave so now he can talk and is kind of an asshole

He was really already an asshole it's just that now everyone can understand him

Been alive for less than a minute and already realized she's trans

The Sane One

Is well aware of her sense of humor being tuned to dead memes and fully embraces The Cringe

I'll decide on designs for her and 30 later but do know that she trades her palette swap outfit for something more her style as soon as possible

She does at least keep her hat, which is blue and black with a female Nidoran face instead of red and white with a light blue pokeball emblem

SMG30

MAXIMUM ADHD. Cannot stay still to save his life, even moreso than Ash

Doesn't tend to come up with crazy ideas of his own, but is very much an enabler of everyone else's crazy ideas

Has a bit of a mad scientist streak, which is where most of the exceptions to his lack of crazy ideas stem from

His hat is green and white with a purple SMG arrow pointing up

They both get Pokemon partners after the situation is dealt with, but I haven't picked them yet.
