Welcome to the Overworked Blorbo Battle Preliminary Round!
Many characters were submitted for this tournament so, in order to allow as many different blorbos into the bracket as I can, I’ve had to limit them to one per series. For most, i just included the most highly submitted character but there were a number of series with characters who had the same (or very similar) number of submissions. Therefore, I’ve created a preliminary round for you to vote on which character from each series gets to enter the bracket.
There will be 37 polls lasting 1 week each.
The polls will be separated into 3 waves. Each wave will be posted 24 hours after the previous.
The first wave will begin on Tuesday the 27th of June at 3PM BST
I've tried my best to only include official images for all of the characters on the polls but I'm not familiar with every series listed so, when the polls go up, if you notice I've used a fanart or cosplay image without permission or credit please let me know and I'll add credit and correct it for any future appearances of that character.
I apologise if I’ve accidentally spelled something wrong or used a wrong name for something, I’m not familiar with every series listed.
The matchups are listed under the read more
There may be spoilers ahead

Who’s more foolish--the Fool or the Fool who follows him?

Name: Ephiny. Pronouns: She/Her. Age: Ageless. 😎 In all seriousness, I’m over 30. Residence: United States. Timezone: Eastern Standard Time (U.S./Canada). Astrological Sign: Cancer. Avatar: Retsuko from Aggretsuko.
Hobbies: Writing, Reading, Dungeons and Dragons, Screaming about my love for Obi-Wan Kenobi, Clint Barton, and Poe Dameron...Video games, cooking/baking, and cosplaying.
Roleplaying experience: I’ve been rping since high school, back when it was swapping spiral notebooks back-and-forth with my friends between classes. Then, I go to college, and there were chat rooms, message boards, LiveJournal (RIP GreatestJournal -sniff-), and Facebook. Finally, back around 2012, a friend introduced me to Tumblr, and I’ve been on this hellsite ever since.
Favorite Jedi? Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker. The twins are tied. Second is Qui-Gon Jinn. Followed by Obi-Wan Kenobi.
How did you come up with this URL? I wanted something stars and writing related. This is what was available.
When are you available? Honestly, whenever I am awake and not in the middle of something. My job is slightly laid back about it, so long as I keep up with my work, and I’m pretty much on my laptop when I’m home. So, usually between the hours of 8:00 A.M. - 12:30 A.M. Please note- my work hours are 8:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. from Monday thru Friday, then I have a ninety (90) minute long commute. Do not call me during those times, and if I don’t reply to your message, that’s why--I’m either working on something at my job or I’m driving.
Hey, how come you haven’t replied to [insert thread here]? Because my anxiety/depression is flaring up. Because I’m eating. Because I’m on the phone. Because I’m reading. Because I’m watching some movie or show with my family. Because I’m at a con. Because writer’s block sucks. Because I’m working on something else at the moment, or I’m talking with someone.
I know many of us on here deal with self-esteem or social anxiety issues. So, let me just say it on here- Your brain is just being mean to you. I don’t hate you. I don’t hate writing with you. While writing is my favorite hobby, it can be a very fickle thing. Some days, I’m going to write dozens of pages. Some days, it’s just going to be a few paragraphs. And some days, there will be nothing. But I am just here to say that you are NOT a bad writer, your character is NOT bad, and you are NOT a bad person. If I am being slow, please, do not take it personal.
Anything else you want to know, within reason, hit me up.

The Woman Behind the Mask
Tumblr media
Hi, there.
Well, if we’re going to be writing together, here’s some quick facts about me.
Name: Ephiny. Pronouns: She/Her. Age: Ageless. 😎 In all seriousness, I’m over 30. Residence: United States. Timezone: Eastern Standard Time (U.S./Canada). Astrological Sign: Cancer. Avatar: Retsuko from Aggretsuko/Abby Sciuto from NCIS.

Finally, back around 2012, a friend introduced me to Tumblr, and I’ve been on this hellsite ever since.
Why do you keep making muses? Because I can.
How did you come up with this URL? I dunno. Just thought it sounded catchy. I was trying to think of something generic, since it was going to be a blog for multiple OCs across multiple fandoms, and I just think masks are cool.
When are you available? Honestly, whenever I am awake and not in the middle of something. My job is slightly laid back about it, so long as I keep up with my work, and I’m pretty much on my laptop when I’m home. So, usually between the hours of 8:00 A.M. - 12:30 A.M. Well I saw The legend of Korra trending and i decided to comment on some things that people got wrong about the show (in my opinion, of course)
1) Korra is the worst avatar.
This is classic. But right, I think that anyone who is not a hater but instead a true fan of the Avatar universe knows that this is not true. Things happen . Aang ran away and was unable to save the airbenders, Roku was unable to stop Sozin ... Even the avatars make mistakes.
I think it's time to stop treat the Avatars as perfect beings since the show tries so hard to show us how human they are despite the immense power they has.
So no, Korra mistakes didnt make her being the worst Avatar. And all the amazing stuff she did isnt overract because i think its clear that the avatar only gets stronger in every reincarnation. This means that Aang was stronger than Roku, Korra is stronger than Aang, and the next avatar will be stronger than Korra.
2) Korrasami came out of nowhere, it was badly developed.
Okay. Perhaps today I have no doubt that their relationship would be more developed and explicit. But then say it came out of nowhere? Really. Cuz we gays who watched the show saw that from miles away
Since book 1, it can be said that Asami kind of struggled to win Korra’s friendship, trying to impress her. And that friendship just grew, becoming more visible in the last two books. Seriously pay attention because there are several subtle moments in the animation focusing on the looks between them, the touch ... and then with a little more help from the script in book 4. People for 3 years they confided a lot to each other.
It was a friendship that grew naturally to the point where it was no longer just a friendship
3) Korra had to suffer to learn to have compassion.
Er .. No. from the beginning Korra had compassion. In fact, she could have many defects but since the book one she has always been helpful and compassionate, willing to help the others.
What happened was that instead of her being "my god why did this happen to me?" she decided to take/find a learning / meaning for her suffering. Where, in going through real pain, she was more able to be compassionate with others because now she would not just look "outside" the situation. Something she talks about with Tenzin in the end.
She really was abble to not only feel for everyone that Kuvira made suffer but feel for Kuvira herself. Korra saw the why Kuvira was doing her Ozai cosplay wanting to conquer all Earth Kindom. Thats like the level 2 of compassion, when we are abble to feel that even with the villains.
4) Korra suffered too much, it was unnecessary
I agree and disagree. Things happen, and being a kids show, Avatar does something that shows like Game of Thrones forgot: Shit has consequences. Things have to have a pay off.
And no, Korra was not the only Avatar character who suffered, much less the only Avatar who suffered. But in The Legend of Korra they decided to focus on that, to represent mental illnes, PTSD more specifically.
Aang also suffered a lot for being the last airbender but he didn’t have an almost exclusive season to show how he was dealing with it, he always had the greatest urgency to learn the other elements and free the world from the fire nation.
The difference is that they show us Korra suffering and recovery for almost all book 4. When in TLA they pick a few episodes here and there to show us Aang suffering about the Air Nomads genocide.
5) The Legend of Korra retconned The Last Airbender
er ... no. I saw people use the Wan episode a lot to try to prove this. But I think it's clear that, okay, the lion turtles gave the power of bendings to people but people didn't know how to use it, they learned from the original benders. There's even a scene of Wan doing the dragon dance.
Oh and okay, the Lion Turtle say that they would no longer give the humans the power of the elementos Buuuutt we dont know If they give it to the humans living in their backs and thats It, never again. I believe thats what happen
Thats all folks. This is my TED talk of today

In the days before Raava, the spirit of light and peace, met Wan, the man who was to become the first Avatar, she spent her days in the wilds, joyful and carefree.
Young Raava enjoyed the sunlight.
She delighted in the warm breeze.
She took in all nature had to offer.
But what’s this? A dragonfly bunny spirit!
 Raava made a friend!
These good times may not have lasted...But they were golden while they were to be had.
*this story is purely fictional and is not Avatar the Last Airbender/Legend of Korra canon.
   Comic-Con@Home Masquerade Entry: Kathryn Henzlere
 Costume Title: Raava’s Day Out
Costume Description: Re-creation, The Legend of Korra (part of the Avatar The Last Airbender universe)
The Raava costume/puppet is a combination of a wood, plastic, and wire frame, with a hand-painted fabric overlay which has a mesh panel for visibility by the wearer. The overlay has an outer layer of chiffon to add a ghost-like affect, with curling tendrils along the edges. When worn by a person instead of being used as a puppet, the costume includes a skirt, leggings, and split-toe shoes (the only part not made by hand). The Bumju plushie is made of fleece, felt, cotton batting, and faux fur, with wire and embroidered chiffon ears, button eyes, and a hook at the back for using it also as a puppet.
Bio: Kathryn Henzler is an award-winning designer and creator of theatrical costumes, cosplay, skating costumes, and geek couture. She has exhibited at conventions and art museums and is a four-time Her Universe Fashion Show contestant. In her day-to-day, she is also a Japanese-English translator, composer/musician/audio engineer, actress, activist, archer, and adult figure skater.

A list of fandoms I'm in (in no particular order, will probably be updated regularly. Some fandoms are more intense and some are more casual. Depending on the fandom, I could go on and on about fandom topics for HOURS. Let's get into it!)
Harry Potter, Disney, Marvel, DC comics, Miraculous Ladybug, Avatar: The Last Airbender/The Legend of Korra, Star Wars, Literature, Winx Club, Nintendo, Minecraft, Little Witch Academia, Voltron, Coraline
Details:
Harry Potter- I got into Harry Potter in 7th grade and now I am the resident expert in my family and in my friend group. I read all the books, watched all the movies (notably the British version), and I've seen the Fantastic Beasts films as well. I've also read Tales of Beedle the Bard (the Warlock's Hairy Heart was traumatizing) along with the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them textbook (plus an updated edition). I also read The Cursed Child script and while I mean no hate to anyone that liked it, I hated what it did to the canon. I am in Hufflepuff with some Ravenclaw tendencies (I took the Pottermore quiz 3 times, 2 out of 3 I got Hufflepuff, the other time was Ravenclaw). I had a pottermore account and I was so upset when it got converted to the Wizarding World page. I cosplayed Hermione in 7th grade complete with British accent and even monologued as her for a talent show (classmates and teachers would recognize me as the Hermione girl all the way through high school). I was obsessed and I still love it even if J.K. Rowling has gone off the deep end on Twitter... yeah... my favorite character is Hermione but I also relate to Luna
Disney- there's so much that goes into the Disney part of my fandom list. I'm excluding Marvel and Star Wars from this part as they were originally separate entities before Disney got the rights to them. I have seen almost every animated Disney film ever and often use random movie quotes in conversation. My favorite villain is Maleficent, my favorite princess is Ariel (followed by Belle, Rapunzel, and Anna). I relate to so many of the characters. I'm not sure who my favorite Pixar character is though (I love Violet, Sadness, Dory, and Piper (from the short)). My favorite Disney fairy is Fawn. My favorite characters overall are Ariel and Stitch. Disney is definitely on the list as one of my biggest obsessions. My favorite movies are Lilo and Stitch, the Little Mermaid, Inside Out, Alice in Wonderland (original), and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
Marvel- I mostly get my Marvel exposure through the MCU, other movies, and animated TV shows. I have difficulty reading graphic novels so most of my comic book knowledge comes from friends, posts, or wikis. My favorite characters are Spider-Man, Captain America, Peggy Carter, and Scarlet Witch. I also like Gwenpool, Deadpool, Spider-Gwen/ Ghost-Spider, Venom, Squirrel Girl, Daredevil, Mantis, Gamora, Black Widow, Iron Man, Thor, Loki, Bucky, Black Panther, and most MCU characters. Out of the X-men I really like Professor X, Wolverine, Mystique, Magneto, Nightcrawler, and Quicksilver (either version- MCU or Fox).
DC- this was the franchise I was more familiar with growing up but again, graphic novels aren't easy for me to read so most of my knowledge comes from information pages about the comics or from tv/movies. My earliest experience with DC came from the 60s Batman series, with Catwoman and Robin being my favorites. I also watched the Wonder Woman series from the 70s and a handful of CW shows, my favorite of which being the Flash and Arrow. I also managed to watch all 5 seasons of the Teen Titans Cartoon Network series from 2003. With that being said, my favorite characters are Wonder Woman, Catwoman, Flash, Batman, Nightwing/Robin (Dick Grayson), Green Arrow, Starfire, Raven, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Alfred. I also like most of the bat family, and when it comes to CW I LOVE Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost and Cisco.
Miraculous- this is one of my guilty fandoms but since this is Tumblr I'm not too worried about it. I love Marinette and I relate to her on an astoundingly deep level (minus the stalking and obsession with potential lovers, that's creepy). If I had a miraculous, I'd probably want the Ladybug one, but the Cat miraculous, fox miraculous, and snake miraculous are good too. My favorite character is Marinette/Ladybug.
Atla/Tlok- I jumped on the avatar bandwagon just when it was starting to get popular, so I managed to get through the series before the memes took over everything. Same with Tlok, although i couldn't completely avoid the spoilers for that when i started it. I've been wanting to get into the comics because of the short story comics I've read, they seem easier to read than superhero comics. My favorite characters are Aang, Katara, Ty Lee, Iroh, Korra, Jinora, Asami, Suki, Appa, Momo, Naga, and Pabu. I also like Sokka, Mai, Zuko, Lin, Kuvira, Varrick, Zhu Lee, and Azula. I feel really sorry for her and while I understand that a redemption arc would undermine the importance of her corruption arc, I still wish she could have one. I would love to be a waterbender or an airbender... maybe a waterbender raised in the air nation? Obviously, being the avatar itself would be awesome. The show has taught me a lot of great lessons and put a lot of stuff into perspective for me.
Star Wars- oh boy, talking about this one is dangerous. I've seen firsthand the horrors of the Star Wars fandom but then again no one will probably see this anyway so... I've seen all the movies and I remember watching the clone wars series with my brother when I was younger but we fell wayyy behind and it's taking us forever to get back into it. I've also seen the Mandalorian and quite enjoyed it. I like the prequels unironically, in fact, the prequels are some of my favorite movies. I especially like how they switched from lightsabers being heavy weapons to light weapons that can be used for all kinds of tricks that make for epic battles like the ones we see in Revenge of the Sith. The sequels were fun to watch but when I would analyze them along side their predecessors, I came to the conclusion that, for me, they were good to watch but did not do anything good for the rest of the franchise. My favorite characters are prequels/clone wars Obi Wan and Anakin, Padme, Ashoka, Leia, R2D2, BB-8, R4-P17, the Mandalorian (Din Djarin), and Grogu. If I had a lightsaber I'd want it to be blue, but when I was little I got a purple one like Mace Windu because it was closer to pink and I was into pink at the time. I still have that lightsaber and none of my friends have a purple one so it's one of my flexes. I feel like I wouldn't make a good jedi because of attachments being forbidden, so I'd probably become a grey jedi.
Literature- this is a broad term I use to cover all the random books and stories I liked reading and have studied. So we have Shakespeare (Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing, Romeo and Juliet), The Great Gatsby (bored while reading, loved to analyze), Grendel (HATED reading, loved to analyze, Grendel really needed a hug and a friend), The Crucible, Fahrenheit 451, Dark Life (+ the sequel Riptide, both are by Kat Falls good reads, sci-fi and kind of dystopian), The Once and Future King
Winx Club- I think the show is trashy but I still love watching it. I haven't been able to get through season 6 though and I hated what they did with season 8 and Fate: the Winx Saga. My favorite character is Bloom along with Stella and Flora. I prefer rai to nick. My favorite transformations are magic winx, enchantix, and harmonix. My favorite member of the Trix is Icy followed by Darcy. My favorite Pixies are Chatta and Lockette.
Nintendo- mainly Pokémon above all else, followed by Animal Crossing. I have also played (mostly as player 2 or just never beat or watched my brother play) mario games, legend of zelda, pikmin, and kirby. Games I haven't played but I just liked the characters/the lore and probably learned about through Super Smash Bros. are Fire Emblem (Lucina mostly), Metroid (Samus and baby metroid), and Kid Icarus. Pokémon is where I'm most knowledgeable but you'll most likely beat me in battle. I am however great at MarioKart and I always destroy my friends at it. Terrible at fighting games though.
Minecraft- I like playing this casually. Sure, I'll play for hours and hours on end for months, but I prefer to stay exclusively in peaceful when playing Survival mode and I don't make anything too ambitious in Creative mode. I like to write, so sometimes I'll make a rough layout of the settings of my stories in different worlds. I prefer interior design and decorating when building, and when in survival mode I focus more on mining and gathering while my brother works on ambitious building projects. I just bring him the raw materials and furnish the interior when he finishes the outside.
Little Witch Academia- this takes up a smaller portion of my fandom list because there were only 2 seasons and a couple movies and I watched the whole series years ago, but I still enjoy it. At one point I wanted to cosplay Akko, and I loved the nod at Twilight through the Nightfall series. And I especially liked the twist that Shiny Chariot was Ursula, which I suspected for some time. The blend between magic and technology was fun to see, but I was so sad that the series ended RIGHT when Akko finally showed signs of magic proficiency. Also, Shiny Chariot being the reason Akko couldn't do magic was heartbreaking.
Voltron- this takes up a much smaller portion of my fandom list mainly because I haven't even finished it. I know hardly anything about Transformers aside from the Bumblebee movie so to me I just watch it for fun. It reminds me of power rangers, star wars, and star trek, and then there's just a transformer insert. But I don't know anything about Transformers so maybe the show is more rooted in canon than I think.
Coraline- I am in a love-hate relationship with Coraline. I have watched the movie several times, I've read the book, I've watched hours of theories and analyses on youtube, I've watched behind the scenes videos by Laika, and I even wrote a script for a fan film parody. I am amazed at how original the story is and how impressive the stop motion animation is but I also have recurring nightmares from it and it scares me/creeps me out to the max. If anyone asks what my scariness limit is, it's definitely Coraline.

What are your favorite shows/characters outside of the Marvel franchises?
Avatar The Last Airbender!!!! My love for Zuko is almost as strong as the one for Loki but he doesn't have nearly enough merch and cosplaying him is hard because I WILL sweat the scar off (this happened twice) 😂😂😂 I love every single Atla character, they are my precious babies. Before I became Loki obsessed I was just as Zuko obsessed. I still am I'm just less vocal about it but I grew up on this series and I love it so so SO MUCH. One day I'll cosplay Azula, Toph, Suki and the cabbage merchant 😌👌
Merlin! Gosh I was such a fan I once did a school project on this. I would watch this with my family when it came out and every episode we would be CONVINCED this was the moment where Merlin revealed his magic (spoiler: it wasnt) 😂 Again, there's not nearly enough merch but dang does this show hold a special place in my heart. When I got really depressed all I did was rewatch Merlin and Avatar. My faves are Merlin and Morgana 👌
Shows I like a lot but don't feel as strongly about as the ones mentioned above:
She-ra and the princesses of power. It was so nice to have such an inclusive show and also they're all gorgeous! I got my redemption arc as well 👌👌👌 And double trouble is a MOOD. I still need to finish my Catra cosplay, but I already have She-ra and she makes me feel gorgeous like her. I love every character here as well but special mentions to Catra, Adora, Scorpia, Entrapta, Sea Hawk and Double Trouble
Phineas and Ferb. I just love how they put it all together with the jokes and the songs 👌
The Mandalorian. This series is just A++++ just a dad and his tiny green son doing cool shit throughout the galaxy with a bunch of badass friends.
The Good Place. I'm so sad this one ended. I LOVED every second of it.
Lucifer, Good Omens, Tangled the series, The Dragon Prince, Voltron (they did my boi Lotor dirty tho), currently watching My Hero Academia (I vibe with Bakugo, I too want to go feral), The Umbrella Academy (10/10 I love this series, Klaus Five and Allison are faves), The Legend of Korra, The Witcher (Jaskier is my fave)
I used to be absolutely obsessed with Winx and Yu-Gi-Oh as well (and they had merch so child me was a happy little gremlin, my faves were all the Winx and Riven and Yami Marik 😂 I already had a type back then)
I know you said shows but I'm gonna mention movies as well.
Pirates of the Carribean. I watched the first 3 movies so many times my mom sent me upstairs to watch it because she couldn't take it anymore 😂 Elizabeth and Jack are my faves
Star Wars. I know the movies aren't great but they have cool costumes, fancy weapons and redemptions arcs so I'm sold ok? Faves are Kylo Ren, Obi Wan, Leia and Anakin.
Harry Potter. I like the magic and the concept of it all (not all the problematic shit obv). My fave is, as you may have guessed by now, Draco Malfoy (I don't have a type you have a type)
Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies. Gosh could rewatch these a thousand times and still not get bored. I love the story and the costumes so much. My fave is Thranduil but not in the same way the others are faves, here I just love all the characters and Thrandy happens to be extra shiny 😂
The Hunger Games. But mostly the books, even though I enjoyed the movies too. I should reread those books some time.
Disney movies, especially Princess and the Frog, Moana, Mulan and Tangled
Kung Fu Panda. What? Those movies are great!
Megamind. I don't need to explain this one.
And I'm a fan of the mobile game The Arcana, my fave being Julian. I'm also a fan of musicals like Beetlejuice, Mean Girls, Six, Hamilton (faves being Hamilton, Lafayette and Jefferson), Heathers and Wicked.
I probably still forgot some but eh 😂

Went to Oz Comic Con
It was a lot. Just a lot of stuff. My puny brain couldn’t take it all in. I did take some photos, which I put on my Instagram. Anyway, highlights:
So first off, I did get to meet Sam Witwer like I hoped. The conversation was brief but really enjoyable. He autographed my copy of Battlefront 2... and apparently I’m the first guy to let him know about the June update with the Droidekas. :P He also expressed enthusiasm for playing the game (and actually admitted he didn’t mind Anakin’s OP-ness), and when I mentioned I was excited for the Siege of Mandalore you could really tell he was too.
Besides meeting Sam, the highlight was clearly seeing all of the cosplay, many examples I got in my Instagram.
Danganronpa cosplays I spotted:
THREE Junkos. Guess she really IS the most cosplayed character after all. I bet there were even more. :P
Two people in Monokuma getup, the older of the two actually had fangs and contact lenses.
Two kids as Nagito and Chiaki.
I think I saw a Mukuro? Not entirely sure though.
I thought I saw a Kyoko but I was mistaken. me and my wishful thinking lol It was still a really cool cosplay though!
I think I also spotted someone as the anthropologist guy from V3. *looks up name because I’m still new to this* Yeah, Korekiyo.
Steven Universe cosplays I spotted:
A really well done Sapphire and Padparadscha.
A Rose Quartz.
I think I spotted a Steven.
I’m pretty sure I spotted a Lapis but I lost track of them before I could confirm it.
Star Wars cosplays I can still remember because obviously there was a fuckton:
I saw some specific stormtroopers. I know I saw a shoretrooper from Rogue One, and I think one of the tank driver troopers from that movie too? Also might’ve seen a Mimban stormtrooper (not the mudtrooper, specifically the stormtrooper) from Solo.
Kylo Ren was around, I know I saw him at least twice.
A 501st clone trooper.
Queen Amidala.
A lot of the younger girls seem to like Leia and Rey.
Obi-Wan in his first The Clone Wars outfit (with the armour).
Darth Maul, though he only had a single blade.
I noticed this one Jedi but I’m not sure who it was, part of me thought maybe Quinlan Vos but the tattoos looked too intricate.
I saw the 501st Legion, Rebel Legion and Mandalorian Mercs with their own stand, which was cool. There were two life sized remote controlled  R2-D2s with them too.
At least one Darth Vader in the con, and there was also one outside playing electric guitar.
Miscellaneous:
An Eclipsa with Star, as in Star vs the Forces of Evil.
Two people in full on Optimus Prime and Bumblebee costume... with music speakers.
Mettaton from Undertale.
A Homestuck troll, IDK who though.
Duffman from the Simpsons.
One or two Ladybugs (as in Miraculous Ladybug), and a Chat Noir.
Marceline from Adventure Time.
I recognised a cosplay from Avatar, I think it might’ve been the Earth one before Aang and his predecessor? I know fuck all about the specifics so yeah. :v
A purple Dalek. I think I saw someone as the 10th Doctor too?
A Spyro.
One Mabel and one Dipper from Gravity Falls. I may or may not have seen a Grunkle Stan, the outfit looked close but I wasn’t sure.
Lots and lots of Marvel and DC characters as you’d expect. I think there was a woman as Thanos, and at least one guy as Thanos. There was even someone as fat Thor from Endgame and a kid as Jared Leto Joker.
Didn’t get any merch, just some sweets because why not. The actual food there was pretty light though, which I guess makes sense but still, you introduce me to pizza pies and only give out tiny slices of them??? Unless they’re meant to be small amounts so you go find the brand in stores and buy the pizza pies... well fuck.
But yeah, even if it was overwhelming at times it still had its moments, and it was definitely worth going there.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Review
Having now seen Star Wars: The Last Jedi a second time and ridden Star Tours with the new scene, I now feel like I have a better handle on the movie to talk about it. SPOILERS AHEAD, you've been warned.
I personally did not grow up on Star Wars. Honestly, looking at my upbringing, I'm not sure how my parents turned out such a nerd. I didn't see the movies at all until I was twelve or thirteen, and they never really resonated with me. I feel terrible saying this now, but I never cared for Leia. Or for Padme for that matter. I didn't relate to them in the slightest.
Then I moved to Orlando, and found myself at Star Wars Weekends. While I didn't get a lot of the references, and didn't have a great understanding of the canon, I love fandoms. I love people who are passionate about what they love. I love cosplay! The last year of Star Wars Weekends I went as Jedi Korra, because apparently I don't know how to cosplay anyone but Korra. (Changing that this year, come MegaCon!)
Then in 2015 I found myself at the opening night release of The Force Awakens, and suddenly I found myself in love with Star Wars. Because of Rey. Finally I had a character I cared about! Finn and Poe and BB-8 were all great too, but I had a badass female character to root for at last.
I was out of town when The Last Jedi released, and found myself staying off the internet for days trying to avoid spoilers. Somehow I managed it, and saw the movie only knowing there were mixed reviews and that a lot of the complaints were dumb.
Seeing the movie the first time was incredibly stressful. My heart was in my throat as the Resistance lost all their bombers, and all I could think as Finn headed for that battering ram canon was, "I swear to God, if Finn dies without seeing Rey, I'm not going to be able to handle it, oh my god, do not pull a CW on me right now." (I have a lot of feelings about the whole Supergirl/Mon-El thing that's happening right now.)
The second go around was much more enjoyable because I already knew what was going to happen. I could sit and enjoy the story. Some of the things I hadn't like the first time seemed not to matter anymore, and I found the positive side of things. The first time, the entire Rose and Finn adventure seemed pointless since it didn't pay off and I was super annoyed by the whole thing. The second time I realized how accurate it was. Sometimes you try your hardest and fail anyway, and find out you trusted the wrong person. I still think Benicio del Toro's character DJ felt a little out of place, and I didn't care for him, but he makes some very good points about the larger scheme of things, and has one of the best lines in the film. "Eh, they blow you up today, you blow them up tomorrow."
Luke says the war is just beginning, but hasn't the war been going since Anakin fell to the Dark Side? DJ kinda has a point. I really hope he shows up again, because that will make him his presence in this movie mesh better.
Poe Dameron has quickly become my second favorite character behind Rey. His trolling of Hux at the start of the movie made me so happy, and everything he did over the course of the film made me love him even more. Even his introduction with Rey, which was well over due. I love that he treats BB-8 like a dog.
I love that we got to see Finn grow. He grew in the first movie, but watching him go from running away to getting ready to sacrifice himself was wonderful. I also love that his literal first thought upon waking up was Rey. Not about himself. For someone so self-centered from the start, he has a habit of putting her first. "Rebel scum." Indeed.
Most of all, I loved Rey's story line. I love that she kept up with Luke, that she didn't give up. I love that we got to see her training with both her staff and the saber, and I desperately hope we get to see her with a lightsaber staff in Episode XI. I loved her interactions with Kylo Ren, I love that we got to see her soften for him, BUT NOT HAVE FEELINGS FOR HIM. I want my girl to be happy and single and a powerful and SHE DOES NOT NEED A LOVE INTEREST! That throne room fight scene was one of the best I've ever seen, and I loved every second of it. It's going right behind the No Man's Land scene in Wonder Woman in my list of best moments in film in 2017. The way Kylo Ren brings her the saber and they immediately go back to back to fight the guards is beautiful. That second when she figures out to drop her saber and catch it in her other hand to kill the guard is just brilliant. I even love Kylo Ren fighting with the saber in one hand and one of the guard's weapons in the other.
I've already gotten into several arguments on Facebook because I like the Porgs. They were actually created to help disguise the fact that the island they were filming on was covered in puffins and I think it's brilliant. I'm really proud of myself I haven't bought one. Yet. I did buy a silly Lightsaber refillable cup though...
Since the Force Awakens I have been mildly convinced that the writers of the new Star Wars are Avatar: the Last Airbender fans. Case in point, Dave Filoni, who is behind the Clone Wars and Rebels television shows, left the first season of Avatar to go make Clone Wars. Disney fought the rights to Star Wars in 2012, just after the first season of Legend of Korra. I can't be the only person who seems some similarities between Korra and Rey. When Force Awakens came out, my friends and I kicked around the theory of Kylo Ren pulling a "Zuko", meaning he'd follow a similar pattern as Prince Zuko and we would eventually get "Hi, Kylo Ren here." The Last Jedi stayed pretty true to this theory, Zuko did betray Katara in the season two finale, "The Crossroads of Destiny", and Kylo turned on Rey when she refused to stand with him. So in theory, Kylo could still come join the band of heroes in the final chapter, but I don't know who he would be standing with them against. Snoke is dead! I mean, he's dead dead. So maybe we actually get a true raged out Sith Lord as our bad guy? Honestly, I'd be okay with that.
Not everyone can be redeemed.
This already went on longer than I planned so just a few final notes.
I don't think Phasma is dead. At least I hope not.
I don't think Rey's parents are nobodies. I don't want her to be a Skywalker, because we're embracing the idea that anyone can be Force sensitive, but I don't think they're "nobodies". I think Kylo Ren was trying to manipulate her. I'm still partial to her being related to Obi Wan, but I'm open to other ideas.
I love how Kylo Ren fights but that stupid sideways stance of his needs to go away.
I think we're going to see Han haunting Kylo Ren.
I figured out Luke was a Force projection, but not for the same reasons as everyone else apparently. I didn't realize he was younger, I thought he just cut his hair to be more presentable. The footprints gave it away pretty quickly, but I just had a gut feeling. I love when I'm right!
All the people saying this "ruined" Star Wars are welcome to their opinion, but I happily disagree with them. We're going in a new direction that was badly needed.
I LOVED the new scene on Star Tours. Poe now gives you the message about the rebel spy, and I was the Rebel Spy! I’m totally down with Poe needing my help. What I didn’t like was that in showing up on Crait, the Star Tours speeder should have been visible in the movie and it’s impossible for C3-P0 and R2-D2 to be in two places at once. But I can’t get over that. Doesn’t make me twitch nearly as much as Gringotts at Universal’s storyline does.
