My attempts at humor
[Image Description: First panel is of a person aggressively squatting while grinning downwards. The words above the person saying, "Me wanting to be funny". Second panel is of a loading bar that's barely half-way loaded along with the text "vaguely, barely a funny idea". Third panel is the same person from the first panel laying flat with their head tilted to the side, their eyes blue-screened with the words "has no comedy skills" below them.]
I try to be funny but something in my brain fails to connect the wires needed to even just make sense.
#mini comic#axv art#axv#axvie#basically how i feel most of the time i make jokes#but especially as i tried to make this vague stupid idea in my head into something actually funny that i had about a moots ocs#i can only hope that at least some of my drawings come off a bit humerous#i call this aggressive squat stance “square up”

Yeah that was a bad look. I don’t know why they didn’t bring this up in season three aka the parental issues season

One of my favourite shows just spat out this little vile of poison. And now I want to vent. Their is a massive differents between being harsh and being physically and mentally abusive. And no, beating your kids don’t make them stronger. Literally all of psychology has shown that it deeply detrimental.
Her mom literally walked around with a wip and hit her every time she stepped out of line drawing blood. The show even has these as memories she suppressed because of how harmful they were.
Maria... you are strong in SPITE of abuse. Not because of it.
WTF Symphogear!?!

Bill Cipher Vs. Self-Hatred
Howdy y'all! Today I just wanted to go over some thoughts I had over everybody's favorite triangle that may or may not have occurred to some of you already. Naturally this will contain Book of Bill Spoilers.
To start off our little essay I thought it would be important to first sum up my thoughts on one of Bill's more complicated relationships: Stanford
Now we've all seen his dynamic with Stanford plenty of times in the show but with recent information coming from both the Book of Bill and thisisnotawebsitedotcom.com more light has been shed on the subject from both Bill's perspective and Ford's.
There's more than meets the eye when it comes to dissecting Bill's interactions and thoughts on Stanford, with the ever enlightening "EVEN HIS LIES ARE LIES" making theorists scratch their heads. Within the Book of Bill are these codes and their meanings: hbh grfwru ri d gliihuhqw nlqg/ zkr zdqw wr pdnh klv sdwlhqw eolqg
eye doctor of a different kind/ who wants to make his patient blind
Qeb alzqlo pxvp/ qeobb pfmp x axv/ tfii jxhb qeb sfpflkp/ dl xtxv
The doctor says/ three sips a day/ will make the visions/ go away
Ixvvb hdwhu/ edeb eloob/ zrxogq'w gulqn/ xqohvv lwv vloob
Fussy eater/ baby billy/ wouldn't drink/ unless its silly
As well as:
Finding out that both Stanford and Bill have a genetic mutation that made them Black Sheep suggests the possibility that Bill saw a kinship within Stanford. After all, he did make the offer for Stanford to join him. No doubt being able to sympathize with Stanford's situation yet misreading his motivations, causing the rift in their once savable relationship once Bill's lies were uncovered.
Now I'll admit it was others who came up with this theory in particular, especially when drawing comparisons of how Stanford was treated and how Bill allegedly was for having a strange eye. Stanford, in some form of other, might represent how Bill was before he saw the destruction of his world by his hands. A mere outcast looking for his place in the world. To be believed rather than ridiculed or "fixed".
Self-Hatred
And now we get to the Bill we all know today:
The chaos loving and nightmare inducing three-sided maniac, who may be hiding more insecurities than he ever let on in the show, thanks to the Theraprism.
Someone far more traumatized
Who's had to convince himself to fully be the bastard he is today
But if the theory that Bill had a type of kinship with Stanford thanks to their mutations was true, then wouldn't it be possible that his relationship with someone else might represent the inner struggle with himself?
For you see, the original title of this post was...
Bill Cipher Vs. Stanley Pines
As my own theory is that Stanley Pines is what Bill decided to project his self-hatred on. Nobody can doubt that the two have similar qualities, yet as I read the Book of Bill and thisisnotawebsitedotcom I couldn't help but notice the absolute malice that Bill has for Stanley whenever he's mentioned.
There have been many opponents before that have strived to take Bill down. Whether that was the Shaman, the Anti-Cipher Society, or Time Baby, none of his interactions with them have appeared as vitriol as compared to Stanley.
Not even Stanford has this same reaction, who, by really no contest, was the closest to ever defeating Cipher by himself. Both with the gun that he near successfully killed Bill with and the secret of the barrier of Gravity Falls he refused to give up. Bill didn't even have a real interaction with Stanley until the last episode.
Yet it isn't Stanford that causes Bill to break while he's in the Theraprism. It's Stanley.
"-A resume-inflating, cheap trick loving, past-denying overgrown child protected from failure only by a force field of DENIAL AND shamelessness!"
"Self-pitying"
"Stupid"
"Smug"
"Hack Jokes"
"UNWORTHY"
Now it could be just me, but those are a lot of specific insults to fling somebody's way that you've barely interacted with. Especially if Bill credits the Twin Swap to Stanford entirely as opposed to allowing Stanley the credit.
"STEP RIGHT UP, it's time to play my FAVORITE GAME!! BOOTLEG SIXER over HERE spent a LIFETIME trying to hide his humiliations, BUT I'VE BEEN INSIDE HIS MIND, so NOW they’re ALL YOURS for the low low price of BEING MY NEW PAL! ITS SHOWTIME FOLKS, AND THE ONLY WAY TO LOSE IS TO BE NAMED STANLEY PINES!"
“SHAME:TM - IT'S THE ONE FRIEND WHO NEVER LEAVES!”
This out-of-character hatred doesn't come from the fact that Bill thought Stanley wasn't worthy, it comes from the fact that Bill sees himself in Stan. Who by all means is a lying and conniving screw up. Somebody who let his family down.
This could possibly be proven by the poem Bill had wrote about Stanley:
The whole poem suits my point but I decided to highlight the sections that caught my eye specifically. That when you put into consideration Bill's clear trauma and regret about the Euclidian Massacre, his own words can clearly be flipped back on him.
That he sees himself as a curse and a mistake. A self-made monster. Someone who's left the past behind when the loss of his home is still on his mind.
And what truly gets under Bill's skin about Stanley Pines?
"He got his life and family back.
His big break, it finally came,
Redemption from a life of shame"
Stanley got back what Bill can't.

How to Make Your Writing Less Stiff 8 | "to-be" and auxiliary verbs
Part 7
Part 6
Part 1
As I go through editing my latest manuscript, I'm faced with the dilemma of when to drop a to-be verb, but also when to keep it and how the differences between the two in any given situation can make just a little... a little *garnish* of a difference.
To-be verbs:
Am, is, are, was, were; a subset of auxiliary verbs
Auxiliary verbs:
To do, to be, to have (simplified)
Auxiliary verbs tend to indicate tense, but we use them more often as crutch verbs, filler verbs, because you can just conjugate the verb itself to the proper tense without the need of the auxiliary verb.
The advice generally goes to remove these, as they count as filler words when followed up by a second verb. Versus the TBV or AXV and an adjective.
He does look / He looks She is cooking / She cooks They were standing / They stood I am fishing / I fish She does cry / She cries We have slept / We slept
vs
He is afraid / He fears She was sorry / She regrets They were happy / They cheered I was confused / I hesitated
The verb+adjective combo can't so easily drop the verb without changing either the tone, the flow, or the actions of the characters, because one is an act of doing, and one is a state of being (for the most part, 'fear' is one of those exceptions in English).
You would have to rearrange the sentence, e.g. "I was confused by this" to "This confused me," to elimiate the TBV. Which, most of the time, does help the narrator feel less passive in the story, but, again, we're here for flavor text, not an MLA formatting guide.
So, sometimes the inclusion of the TBV or AXV adds subtext to the action itself.
"He does look" has slightly more urgency and weight than simply "he looks" because the AXV emphasizes that this is an action the actor might not have taken otherwise, for better or for worse.
In the silence, she stands there huffing, voice wrecked from crying as he heads for the open door. “Don’t you walk away from me.” He turns, face impassive. “There’s nothing left to be said.” vs He does turn, face impassive. “There’s nothing left to be said.”
The latter indicates that this might be hesitation or regret on his part, as opposed to a decisive, quick action, or that this is an action that she, the narrator, didn't expect him to take.
It also helps convey the tone of voice (or at least the general direction of the level of emotion in a voice). This absolutely varies on a case-by-case basis and the context of the action and should not be abused.
One of the juicier verbs for subtext here is "try"
He tries to coach her through how to do it properly. vs He does try to coach her through how to do it properly.
The former is direct and simple. He is attempting (he attempts) to help but through the act of "trying" and not "doing" there's an indication that she isn't getting it.
The latter is a little more hopeless, where he and she both know that whatever she's attempting to learn, she won't succeed, but he's doing it anyway. Maybe because he cares or he feels bad, or, that he wasn't going to help her, but something changed his mind.
Deciding when to use these helps convey the inner thoughts of non-narrating characters without head-hopping, and also shows the biases of the narrator.
Hope this helps!

In an effort to get more minds on the number silly straw I am going to make this it’s own post.

The Doctor Says

Red

So we know what those ones say, I however don’t have a fucking clue what the fuck is going on with red. Now I will admit that I have less knowledge on number based codes, so maybe I’m just stupid, but. I have been trying to crake this on and off all day yesterday.
So here are the numbers.
215 858 117 450 110 628 19 211 120 2265 216 951 25 256 27 532 212 506 18 1317 110 1137 221. 658 23 1330 210 231 118 929 112 2043
Now my first thought was A1Z26… but that can’t work because there is a 50 in here twice actually. So A1Z26 didn’t work.
Now I am bad at number codes so I went to my friend and they suggested Hex, and I tried that and nope mostly undefined, then I asked the same friend again and they said maybe Polybus Square, but I pointed out that these sets of numbers are set up in groups more than 2, so that was a bust. So I showed it to my fiancé, who just taught a summer class based on escape room, and thus taught kids about a shit ton of different ciphers and codes, some I told them about but others they new about already and some they had found researching for the class, so I thought that they may have an idea as to what it might be. And they took a cursory glance at it looked up some of the numbers, not all of them mind you, and said that they were area codes, and those of larger cities, both in and out of the US. And I was happy to have an answer, didn’t know how I would be able to use this to answer the code but I had something, so I went through and… not all of them were area codes, it actually broke down quite quickly, see they had checked the first 3 and then moved to look at some of the later ones that were different lengths and the “221. 658” group thinking it was a decimal and then told me that it seemed like all of them were area codes. Now we were back at square one. So I have no fucking clue where to go now.

If it's not too much trouble, can I ask for a list/explanation of Bobo's character traits? I'm really bad at pulling those from writing, so having a blunt list would help.
I've gathered that they seem rather polite and strong, I remember you saying they don't like skin contact or fire. Was there anything else like that that I missed?
Okay this is going to be super long as I'm not good at condensing info. I'll try to put just a condensed list first, but then I'll follow with some more explanation for each point. I'll also add some links to most of my works I currently have out about Bobo. Just in case the extra info can be helpful or just explains better than my attempt of a blunt list.
-Polite / reserved towards strangers
-Strong / can carry 300 pounds with ease
-Fire wary
-a bit Prideful
-slightly Germophobic / Highly germ-aware
-Fear of large animals
-sometimes Teasing
-Self-sacrificing / Noblesse Oblige
-Explorer / daredevil
-Tempermental but has control over it majority of times
-Can nap anywhere
-Musically inclined / likes heavy metal
-Sugary sweets can make her sick
Bobo is indeed polite and strong. She is wary of fire, though thanks to Grim she does end up getting quite used to it. Physically she can lift at least 300 pounds with ease. She's trained to fight with a sword and a warhammer. She's actually a bit prideful in regards to her strength.
It's not exactly that she doesn't like skin contact, but that she doesn't want her face being touched in any way. She awfully aware of germs and is quite cautious about hygiene. She also detests anything that jokes or takes light of something that could relate to being eaten alive. For example, she hates being called "sugar" as that's something that's eaten. She hates this because in her kingdom, there's a serious threat of giant monsters eating people.
Due to these monsters she isn't the best with animals. If it's a tiny gecko, she has no problem. If it's a goat, she's a bit wary. She has been charged at by a goat before. If it's an animal larger than her like a horse, she's scared. Like going stiff and silent scared.
To those she doesn't know personally she will put up a face of a polite and cordial leader. For those she knows a bit better she'll relax that a bit more. Like being more willing to tease and joke along with them. Or just show that she can have emotions.
She's used to having to be responsible for an entire kingdom so she's rather self-sacrificing but not to the point of letting anyone walk over her. It's more like if she hears someone's in danger, she will go help regardless of who that someone is.
If she can Bobo likes to explore. To just get away from everything and the pressure of responsibility. She knows diving just in order to explore the waters as well. Bobo even knows how to ride a motorcycle. She can be a bit reckless with driving but only when she's the only passenger and she already knows the path she's going on.
She does have a bit of a temper, but it's rare for her to actually throw a tantrum. Perhaps small bits of anger will escape her, but she usually tries to reign that in.
Bobo has the odd ability of being able to fall asleep real quickly but wake up before any danger can reach her. It's something she's basically cultivated over the years of sneaking in naps as she doesn't get a full night's rest with how busy she is. So people could be shouting next to her while she's sound asleep, but the moment someone tries to hit her, she wakes up. It's like she's developed a sixth sense for when she actually needs to stop napping.
Bobo is also musically talented. She can play several instruments and can sing. She considers it a hobby and doesn't make too much of a fuss about it. She enjoys it, but doesn't really herself performing for others. Though part of that is influenced by her being certain that citizens wouldn't want to hear any music their ruler comes up with. Her music preferences is heavy metal.
Bobo is quite happy to eat anything, but she is hesitant and sometimes outright refuses to eat any desserts. She associates sugary goods with a happier time and thus sometimes will even get nauseous at just the idea of having any. Though she does have an easier time consuming bitter sweets as they are less sugary.
In Twisted Wonderland she does tend to get a bout of nightmares after each overblot. She also avoids straight up saying that she's a princess back in her world. To her that would be a meaningless fact here. So she's cautious about what exactly she says. For example on her School Card I have one of her voice-lines as "I do miss my hammer. It was custom-made for me as a gift from my… fighting instructor." Her fighting instructor is actually her General, but she didn't want to say General as that would lead to quite the series of questions.
Some of my general info about Bobo in Twisted Wonderland here.
General info about Bobo in her original world here. (Don't know why it shows up in the feed overview thing instead of going to a blog page.)
Snippet of what Bobo's like with her sister kingdom's princess here.

Toyota Sera, 1990. First shown as the AXV-II concept (which was very close to production ready) the Sera was a Japanese market only coupé based on the platform of the Paseo and Starlet. The Sera's butterfly doors were hinged at the top centre of the windscreen, and bottom of the A pillar to open forward and up in a similar manner to the McLaren F1 - the F1's designer Gordon Murray has cited the Sera as the inspiration of the McLaren's door configuration. Many have subsequently been exported from Japan, primarily to other right-hand-drive markets (no left-steer Seras ever left the factory). It was not directly replaced when it was discontinued in 1995

THE BOOK OF BILL DECODED (Spoilers) (P2)

MAD THAT YOU MISSED PART ONE? I WOULD BE TOO, BUD. BUT DON'T WORRY. I'M GENEROUS. Here it is! In a cute little sentence!
WELL NOW THAT YOU'VE READ PART ONE, HERE IS THE REST OF PART TWO.
Look! I reversed it for you! Are you happy? TELL ME YOU ARE HAPPY.

Code(s) used: AXOLOTL
My optometrist never saw it coming
(THANK YOU TO THE HUMAN @retropineapple FOR THIS KNOWLEDGE)

Code(s) used: Ceasar (3 back)
Hbh grfwru ri d gliihuhqw nlqg/ zkr zdqwv wr pdnh klv sdwlhqw eolqg
TRANSLATES TO:
Eye doctor of a different kind/ who wants to make his patient blind

Code(s): It's complicated- here's an explanation:
This is the full list of numbers:
215 858 117 450 110 628 19 21 1 120 2256 216 951 25 256 27 532 212 506 18 1137 221. 658 23 1330 210 231 118 929 112 2043
Each numbers comes in groups of 2. For example, 215-858 or 117-450.
The first number group represents the season and episode. So 215 means season 2, episode 15. The second group represents the time. So 858 means 8:58.
When doing this for each group, we get the sentence:
"Twisted out of shape after the kill. The ghosts of his family are haunting him still."

Code(s) used: Ceasar (3 back)
Ixvvb hdwhu/ edeb erb/ zrxogq'w gulqn/ xqohvv lwv vloob
TRANSLATES TO
Fussy eater/ baby boy/ wouldn't drink/ unless its silly

Code(s) used: Ceasar (3 forward)
Qeb alzqlo pxvp/ qeobb pfmp x axv/ tfii jxhb qeb sfpflkp/ dl xtxv
TRANSLATES TO
The doctor says/ three sips a day/ will make the visions/ go away

Code(s) used: There MIGHT be a code here, but I haven't looked into it just yet! Anyway, here are your numbers from left to right. Go wild!
4 9 5 2 3 1 8 3 3 0 9 8 6 7 3 7 1 2 4
Or (A J F C D B I D D A J I G H D H B C E) If we use the Vigenere alphabet (A=0, B=1, C=2, ect)
X=A
THIS MARKS THE END OF PART 2.
RABBIT HOLE TOO DEEP FOR YOU? WELL LUCKILY I SPAWNED A MAGICAL DOOR TO PART 3 RIGHT HERE
Good luck!
