Your thoughts on the prolific author Jean Plaidy? Did you read any of her books? Do you have favorite/most hated? What do you think about her view on the Tudors, Boleyn's, Yorks, Stuarts, Hapsburgs, etc?
I have found them very dull, paint by the numbers, etc. Honestly I find most of the novels from that era of that era that way, though, it's part of why I can't stand Weir's, hers just feel like a complete emulation of Norah Loft's which are also that way for me. I feel like newer authors of the genre are more likely to take risks, even if all their creative decisions are not my favorite, I can respect that (Suzannah Dunn, Christopher Rae, etc).
To be more specific, as a Henry VIII Enjoyer, these novels miss the mark for me. He's always very one-dimensional, sadistic satyr meets bluff hail-fellow-well-met, extremely pliable and easy to manipulate; it's just very boring and not satisfying to read.

Morning turned to day and day turned into evening. The painful and exhausting labor seemed to drag on forever. But Norah’s body seemed to know what it was doing for even though it took a long time, everything went as it should. Harold held Norah’s hand through it all, terrified that something horrible would happen, but trying his best to stay courageous for his wife. He felt so helpless as she shouted in pain, sometimes in such agony it made his blood freeze. He would fetch wet cloths to dab at her sweaty forehead and cup her cheek so she would feel safe, knowing he was there.
And at long last, it was finally over. Completely exhausted, but so very happy, Harold laid their little son on her chest. Their healthy, perfect little boy. The emotions where so thick you could slice through them with a knife. They couldn’t speak, they just stared at their baby in awe, so tiny but somehow the biggest thing they knew. And they looked into each other’s eyes, a deep understanding passing between them. That this moment, was the greatest moment of their lives, forever altering them at their core. They decided he would be named Charles for Harolds father and Albert for Norah’s.
Norah soon succumbed to her exhaustion, but Harold stayed up a while longer. Holding his son, his precious little boy; Charles Albert Bradford.

people are talking about how the boys in the wilds had no chemistry together and i get that the girls obviously bonded better as a group but for the boys all of them except raf (but obviously that changed later) immediately stood up for josh and believed him when they found out what seth did and when he told them all to never tell anyone about it they ALL stayed true to that. even after being interrogated for hours they never spoke about what happened on day 15. and they didnt have someone like leah!!! they thought these people were really trying to help them and they still didnt tell!! they definitely had a strong connection between all of them.

Been meanin' to reblog skaldish's post (below) about... the male-presenting social world (i guess? 🤔), but never got around to it. Then I spotted Anna Akana's video, got interested in the title, and was surprised she was referencing and quoting it (sweet 🥳).

I've never been terribly active here but I've returned to share my favourite patterns that make me slightly uncomfy and/or ready to star in an absolutely CRACKING sci-fi miniseries, please enjoy.
DEGEN ADULT EYES SWEATER by Lindsay Degen
Who WOULDN'T want this Biblically accurate sweater? The perfect attire for every horrifying occasion.
#22 Raglan Sleeve Pullover by Laura Zukaite
The rather staid naming of this sweater belies its Mad Max energy. After the apocalypse comes for us I hope we can at least dress like this.
Open Waters Shawl by Melanie Berg
A good shawl to wear to a duel to the death with your mortal enemy, if your mortal enemy has trypophobia.
Romanesco Jumper by Ranti Ehinmola
Honestly, the number of variations shown in the project photos for this pattern is amazing. Not only can you fulfill your dreams of looking like a 5th Element villain, you can do it your way.
DEGEN HOLE SWEATER by Lindsay Degen
This is a practical pattern for people like me who are in denial about living in a desert and stubbornly insist on wearing knitwear despite ample evidence this is a bad idea.
Wilderness by Martin Storey
I absolutely adore the 1950s farmhouse vibe of this photo and the beauty and poise of the model juxtaposed with the fact that she looks like a human bittermelon and she is fucking KILLING it
# 17 Patterned Sweater with V-Yoke by Sabrina/Sandra team designers
An unassuming mass-produced pattern from the 90s that, just coincidentally, looks like something you'd wear to head an intergalactic delegation.
Blume by Norah Gaughan
Speaking of space sweaters, here's another that wouldn't look out of place on the bridge of a starship.
Mullion by Martin Storey
This one, on the other hand, looks more like attire for a... space council?
Space Odyssey by Anna Strandberg
This pattern is literally called "Space Odyssey". The author definitely knows.
Dark Moss Pullover by Teti Lutsak
Bringing things back to Earth, the way these broad cables fade into the fabric reminds me of my desire to be buried in one of those mushroom suits after I die. Your interpretation may vary.
Waterbender by Yiğitcan / Pufido
The ultimate in dramatic sleeves.
Day Dreams by Stacy Collingham
Finally... I think the Power Rangers fought this sweater.
