Picturing Simon Riley with a reader who has an airhead moment 😵💫
Simon is laying across the couch, feet propped up and one muscle bound arm supporting his head on the armrest of the sofa, simply enjoying the domestic sounds of his home. The dishwasher is rumbling away, the AC is whistling gently through the vents, and the tv is softly playing some nature documentary in the background. After weeks in the field, it’s familiar sounds like this that help him feel grounded.
Soon, gentle footsteps are added to the noise when his Lovie skips into their living room holding one of his many skull balaclavas in her hands. She proudly holds it up to him showing off her sewing skills by pointing at the area that was previously occupied by an ugly tear is as good as new. A smile tugs at his lips as he takes in her triumphant smile and sparkling eyes.
“Your baklava is fixed babe!”
“Thank you Loveie. I really appreci-“
Her sentence fully registers in his mind and he freezes mid sentence.
…What did she just say?
“….wait what?” He slides his legs off the couch so he can sit up straight. She now has 110% of his attention because…did he really hear that right?
She holds the piece of fabric in front of her face and wiggles it around to show off the back and the front.
“I fixed your baklava! See?”
Simon blinks dumbly. Is she being serious?
“Sorry. Can…can you say that one more time Lovie?” he asks, his voice sounding slightly strained now.
Her eyebrows furrow slightly as her lips pull into a cute pout
“Your baklava!” she exclaims as she hops towards him and holds it closer to his face. “I stitched up that big tear that was at the bottom. I also-“
“PFFT- ha…ha-hahaHAHA!-“
She gets cut short as a harsh guffaw cracks out of her brick wall of a boyfriend. His burly form now doubled over with an arm wrapped around his torso.
As he continues to laugh, she can’t help but stare at him in awe. Simon has always been very solemn. Sure he was know to crack a dad joke or a sarcastic quip at times. He’d occasionally allow himself to chuckle at the antics of his teammates or his Lovie. But she can’t seem to quite remember a time when she saw him laugh like this.
Here was Simon “Ghost” Riley, the man who was feared as much as he was respected by comrades and enemies alike, completely beside himself with uncontrollable laughter.
“My…my wh- what? You f-fixed my what?”he wheezes out as he struggles to sit himself back upright. His sweet, naive Lovie is now giggling due to her boyfriend’s contagious laugh attack. Once again she holds up the item in her hands that started this whole show.
“Your- Y…Your baklava babyhehehehe! What’s so funny about it?!” Her voice gets higher as she disolves into her own laugh attack while Simon relapses into his. His face pressed into his palm as he wheezes and, to the surprise of both of them, lets out a very ungraceful snort. After this offense, his sweet Lovie points at him and lets out a surprised shriek of laughter before flopping over and rolling around the living room rug. His “baklava” now pressed against her face in a futile attempt to muffle her sounds of joy.
Simon wipes his eyes with his thumb and pointer finger before he stretches his arms upwards and leans back onto the couch. He takes a slow, deep breath through his nose and releases it as a short laugh poorly disguised as a huff. His Lovie has now mostly calmed down and is able to at least sit up from her position on the floor to look at him, her cheeks rosy and eyes glossy from the persistent laughter.
Simon attempts to hold any remaining laughter at bay so he can speak.
“Lovie,” he starts “it’s called a balaclava…not a”a stifled snort from his nose interrupts temporarily “…not baklava.”
“Oh…really?”
“Mh-hmm”
“…”
“…”
“…….Are you sure?…“
“Yes, Lovie. I’m certain my mask is not a Middle Eastern dessert.”
“BWAHAHA!”
As his darling Lovie falls into yet another fit of laughter, Simon can’t help the smile that stretches on his already sore face. His kindhearted, goofy, sweet lil’ Lovie. He wouldn’t change a hair on that silly head.
