thoughts on barbie being a positive movie for men
i think its funny so many right wing men act like barbie is a man hating movie as if the final message to ken wasnt literally “dont put your worth in things you own and how women see you but instead find yourself on your own and know that you are enough without external validation and lean on other men for support” like that is so positive?? it's a very good message for men to receive? do you now want men to find themselves and know their worth lol

Let’s talk about the Barbie movie, because I have thoughts.
The movie is about female empowerment in the real world, using Barbie land as a way of demonstrating how messed up the real world is by showing us a world where exclusively women get to be in power. In the real world, Barbie is the definition of female empowerment, because she represents the idea that women can and should be whoever they want. In Barbieland, though, the Barbies are the only focus. There are only women in the government, the women are the only ones with successful jobs, they're the only ones with houses. At the end of the movie, they get back into power and act the exact same way they did at the start. The only difference is that the Kens can "be whoever they want" - and it's a metaphor for reality when the president Barbie says that they can't be Supreme Court justices, in the same way that women were only allowed to occupy very small and stupid positions of "power" when they first started fighting for equality. It's not real equality - it's a way of keeping the Kens from complaining while maintaining the matriarchal system. If the Kens are a metaphor for women, and how they are portrayed in movies and the rights they have in real life, this movie drives the point home that the Barbies haven’t actually had change in Barbieland- just like we haven’t had enough change in the real world. Like the man said in the movie "We're still a patriarchy, we've just gotten much better at being sneaky about it." Barbie land doesn't have equality, and we’re not supposed to think they do. We’re supposed to understand that even people with the best of intentions can’t justify giving voice to only one section of the population, and that the concept of a matriarchy is just as ridiculous as the patriarchy is.

Just got back from the movie theater watching the Barbie movie for the second time (mom wanted to see it). And... I didn't realize how deep it actually was until now.

The people whining about how the Barbie movie hates men (it doesn't) don't even seem to realise that Ken is treated like a whole character in a way that so many female characters aren't. Like he has an entire character arc that is central to the plot. His actions actually move the plot! He's not a sexy lamp! He doesn't exist just to be saved like a damsel or to be a reward for Barbie's hard work saving the land, or any of the stereotype female 'characters' that so many stories get away with.
I've even seen people responding basically saying "they're so upset that a male character is getting treated like a female this one time". But the thing is he isn't! He is treated much much better! And they still can't handle him just not being the main character

just watched barbie and now i need to hug my mom and never let go and ask my sisters to play barbies with me like we’re little again and find acceptance within myself that growing up and being a girl is impossible to deal with and just find that peace and love for myself in every small part in every part of life. or just go to bed

Barbie in TMA
okay so, I think Barbie in the Eyepocalypse would be in the domain of The Vast bc I think she'd have the fear of "Existential Insignificance" which is a characteristic from The Vast. and, y'know, with the amount of jobs and things she does, and how important she is portrayed in all of her media, i think not having any significance in the world would be her fear.
BUT, if she were to be an avatar, i'd say she'd be a Stranger avatar. And it's for the same reason!
She takes on so many different personalities and identities that we don't really know her. And what is that characteristic from? The Stranger baby!
So yeah, I believe that being an Avatar and your Domain take different things into account and Barbie would be those two. Now, Oppenheimer is next...

growing up as a girl is to realise you have learned far too early to care about others and their feelings. while boys were outside fighting with sticks or playing with the knight's castle or pirate ship, I was taking care of the sick people in my playmobil hospital. while boys could still play with their toys or outside, I was taught how girls behave, how they dress, how they talk.
I learned empathy when I tucked in my stuffed animals every night. I learned empathy when the only one who would take care of me when I was sad or ill, was my mom. sometimes even when she herself wasn‘t feeling well.
and maybe that's why I put my feelings behind and sacrifice myself for every person and can't stop giving everything and asking for nothing in return. because I think it's my job. I have to be the emotional care taker. and I don't want that anymore. because every time, the inner girl in me screams, "what about me? please don't forget about me!"

I haven't seen anyone saying this so I don't know if it's just me, but the "real" world still felt like it was a child's story.
The kid stopping barbie to conveniently explain the social dynamics
The Mattel offices being dark and grey and everyone wearing the same clothes but the boardroom being colorful
The execs/office workers practically acting pacman out when chasing barbie
The conversations Ken overhears sounded like a kid make believe talks
The construction workers cat-calling but also immediately accepting that Barbie and Ken appeared to be trans
Like yes the "real" world conversations are more sophisticated but I think it's still just a story kids are telling.
And I think the ending of Barbie shows reinforces the main theme Barbie was saying the whole movie she's supposed to represent. that Barbie is supposed to allow little girls to dream to be anything, and now that Barbie is a real person she can be anyone.
Barbie IS every woman - as told by children.

Some things about Allan:
He’s the only one who reacts to the narrator
He’s the only doll (besides the Weird House) who isn’t swayed in some way by Ken’s takeover
He also declares himself as “Ken's buddy" (making canon his official box description) which makes his inability to be swayed more interesting
He has bendable legs (probably the only reason he tries to jump the fence instead of going around like everyone else)
He easily decked a half-dozen construction Kens and could probably singlehandedly win the Ken fight
He seems to know more about the real world than most Barbies
He knows what NSYNC is
He knows about other Allan copies living in the real world (I’m trying to figure out if he made this up to convince the humans he can live in the real world, but even if he did, how does he know what NSYNC is???)
There are no other Allan models
