Boop! by Bea Birdsong, illustrated by Linzie Hunter
All the dog snoots in this book are boop-able!
Tumblr media
In this picture, a friendly neighborhood dog named Aletheia stopped by for a visit. Miss Meagan asked Aletheia’s adult to boop her nose and shared this fun book with them.
In this interactive book, readers will boop all the different dog noses. Learn about the many different sizes, textures, and kinds of dog snoots in this bright and fun book.
Early Literacy Skills:
Print Awareness -  There are bright and colorful words all over the pages. Readers must turn the book sideways to read a few pages in the story.
Vocabulary - Synonyms such as snoot, nose, boop, and tap help build a child’s vocabulary.
Background knowledge - Ask what your child knows about dogs. What sounds do they make? What is a dog’s favorite treat? How do you take care of a dog?
Early Literacy Practices:
Talk to your child about animal safety. This book is a great guide to help children understand animal safety, even around pets. Talking helps develop your child’s vocabulary and communication skills.
Reading with your child and having fun with the story will encourage them to want to read more!
This book is great for travel or reading at the park. You and your child can play a game of finding similar dogs that are in the book.
Extend the Book!
It is important that you do not boop a real dog’s nose without permission.
Always ask your adult and the dog’s adult for permission before petting or booping a snoot.
Highland, Hobart, Munster, Dyer-Schererville, and St. John branches of LCPL host a dog reading program where you can safely and kindly boop the dog's nose. Check out our online calendar for dates and times.

Choose Your Own Bea's Adventure End
(Previous Part Here)
You stick your cold, wet snoot against Mountain's side and huff unhappily at the ghoul, but he barely acknowledges your touch, too busy arguing with Bea.
You turn your attention to the gardener, zeroing in on the bare skin visible between the top of her socks and the bottom of her skirt and-
*boop*
The scream she lets out could wake the dead and, quite frankly, give even the best death metal growler a run for their money.
You boop again for good measure... and perhaps as revenge for her nearly blinding you and smacking you with the pool skimmer that one time.
Mountain eventually intervenes and you chortle happily when Bea shoots you a glare from the protective embrace of the Earth giant, who has finally scooped her up off the ground.
...Your joy lasts for about two minutes before they start bickering again.
It makes you think arguing like this is just how they communicate.
You slither back into the lake to digest your moose dinner and dampen the sounds of them duking it out on their way back to Bea's cabin.
When you climb out in the morning, back in your glamour, you can only guess that they made up, because Bea's not dead and Mountain is making breakfast.
You're allowed inside the cabin on the stipulation that you put clothes on.
You eat standing outside the window.
We all have our battles to fight.
And you're still in snake brain mode.

Junko Enoshima with a boyfriend or GN S/O that she loves more than despair. He's not something special like she can't predict him or something she's just weirdly smithen with them. Bonus points if you make them on the shy side.
Junko Enoshima with a Boyfriend she Can't Predict, but Loves more than Despair
Tumblr media
She doesn't know what it is about you, but you just make her heart flutter
It's not like you're anyone special, though
You were just another nobody Ultimate from Hope's Peak
Not to mention how painfully soft and meek you were, so much so that hardly anyone ever noticed you
But somehow, THE Junko Enoshima did, and she found it adorable
She tried to resist it at first, but she could hardly focus on her plans for despair-inducing world domination because you were on her mind all the time
She couldn't take it anymore; she just HAD to have you
So instead of using one of her many ridiculous despair personalities, she slipped back into her typical high school queen bee persona to approach you
Even then, you were soft-spoken and struggled to make eye contact with her, and she resisted the urge to reach out and pinch your cheeks
Then she got right to the point and asked you on a date, which was even more surprising than the fact that she even approached you in the first place
When you asked how she noticed you, she simply laughed
"Please, my vision's 10,000/20! I can see everything and everyone, boy!"
So with that, you agreed to go on the date
Junko actually abandoned her plans for a short while to enjoy your time together
For someone so shy and quiet, you were fairly difficult to read
She couldn't predict you at all, but that just made it all even more exciting
Finally, someone she actually cared for, and you weren't completely boring!
Match made in heaven
The two of you lived a fairly normal high school life, and Junko loved to show you off every chance she got
She'd loudly announce your presence in the hallways every day, and smile and boop your nose when you got embarrassed
She'd try to help you come out of your shell too
She still wanted you to be her shy little baby, but a little more confidence never hurts
She invited you to modelling gigs, took you to the mall to find clothes that expressed yourself, then proceeded to make you wear them out in public to make you more comfortable
But not too much, of course
Couldn't let you become too predictable, after all
Meanwhile, her sister was confused at her sudden change in attitude, and even more so that Junko hadn't even said the word "despair" for several weeks
Junko wasn't even sure if she wanted to go through with her plan anymore
Honestly, she was close to just making her Monokuma a gift instead of a mechanized killer teddy bea
Maybe she'd get back to it later, maybe she wouldn't
But for the time being, just passing time and loving on her adorable man was enough for her

“I am spent.” she announces as she falls back on their bed, arms up to the pillows and her eyes partially open to look towards the ceiling. It was a long day, both agreed to order pizza and now they were enjoying the downtime, “I forgot how tiring it is.”
Rooster chuckled as he settled onto the bed beside her, sighing once he was comfortable. He reached over and gently ruffled her hair. "Well, you did spend the day having your beauty captured… I'd say it's worth the exhaustion."
Beatrice let out a contented sigh. "Yeah…photoshoots are a lot of work but-" she yawns quietly “but worth it…you did great too.”
“Hm?”
“Your first model gig.” she smiles, “My husband is very handsome and is now a model.” she was so tired her eyes barely opened, but she managed to poke his defined chest with her finger, ‘Boop.”
Rooster chuckled at her playful boop and leaned over to give her a gentle kiss on the forehead. "Well, I'm just glad I could help and make your day special, Bea. You looked stunning out there, by the way."
Beatrice let out a drowsy giggle at his words. "You're just saying that because you're biased."
Rooster shrugged with a grin. "Maybe I am, but it doesn't make it any less true."
Beatrice's eyes fully closed now as she snuggled deeper into the bed, nestling her head into Rooster's chest. "Flatterer... You know how to make a girl feel special."
He wrapped his arms around her, holding her close, and whispered softly, "That's because you are special, Bea.” he stops speaking when he sees her chest move slowly, she was out like a light, her whole body was soft and her brown hair was sprawled over the mattress. He cautiously adjusted himself so she could get comfortable, placing a pillow under her head as he sat up.
He wasn’t that tired yet, so he was probably going to read something or watch some tv. Nicole was already sleeping and the dogs were in their usual spots…he could figure something else to do.
With Beatrice sound asleep beside him and the room filled with the soft hum of relaxation, Rooster decided to take advantage of this quiet moment. He carefully extricated himself from the bed, making sure not to disturb his slumbering wife. Tucking the blanket around her, he leaned in and pressed a loving kiss to her forehead before quietly slipping out of the room, stopping when she hummed happily, snuggling the blanket close to her face.
Rooster made his way to the living room, where he settled onto the couch. He had a few precious hours of solitude, and he intended to make the most of them. As he pondered what to do, his eyes fell on the bookshelf in the corner of the room. It held an array of books, some well-worn from years of reading, and others waiting to be explored.
And honestly, when was the last time he read?
Well, maybe when Beatrice told him to read Lord of the Rings before they even dated. And that was four years ago.
“Hmm…no it’s too long.” he mutters, tapping his hands on the couch as he thinks about what he should do, “Let’s see…” he frowns a bit, then looks around for the remote, ‘Maybe I should just watch something,” he tells himself, relaxing a bit on the couch as he turns the tv on…keeping a low volume to not wake his girls up.
Rooster leaned back on the couch, the soft glow of the television casting a warm light in the dimly lit living room. He scrolled through the channels, searching for something that caught his interest. It had been a while since he'd had the luxury of time to simply relax and watch TV.
He missed being able to sit down and unwind, even if he wanted to be all over the place.
Finally, he settled on Peaky Blinders. It seemed they could never finish the series and he wondered if one day they’d ever achieve that. He looks down at the list, trying to find the last episode he watched and then snapped his fingers, “Water.” he says, pushing himself up towards the kitchen, waking Jolene in the process. The pitbull followed him with her head, then stretched and joined him within a few seconds.
As Rooster made his way to the kitchen to grab a glass of water, Jolene followed closely behind. She wagged her tail as he opened the fridge and filled a glass, her brown eyes filled with affection. Rooster couldn't help but smile at her while he plopped some ice cubes in his glass.
"Thirsty, girl?" he asked, kneeling down to pet Jolene's head. She responded with a contented sigh and a lick to his hand, before trotting to her water bowl. With his glass of water in hand, Rooster returned to the living room glass tilted to his mouth and water going down his throat…and then he stopped.
He stops and looks over some of the picture frames on the wall.
The one with his dad, the one he had in his old apartment and where both he and Bea chose to keep above their piano was tilted. He frowns a bit, crunching an ice cube and walks closer to have a better look. “Huh.” he says, “It is an old frame so,it could be that.” the light from the tv hits the glass, shining part of his face on the reflection.
He blinks, narrowing his gaze because was his father’s picture that high quality? It was taken in the mid-eighties, it shouldn’t be that  crisp in color. Jolene stops a few feet from him, frozen, and he looks back at her with a frown, “What is it Jojo?” he asks and the pittie carefully rushes to his side, sitting in front of his legs and peeking over his calf towards the tv.
As Rooster continued to study the photograph, he noticed that something was off about the background. And then he saw his dad’s head move.
“Holy shit!”
His unexpected outburst startled Jolene, who quickly retreated and dashed up the stairs in a panic. At the same time, Eleanor sprang into action, barreling out of Nicole's nursery with a frantic chorus of barks. Her nails skidded on the wooden floor as she raced down the staircase, her protective instincts kicking in until she stopped by the front door.
The commotion was enough to jolt both Nicole and Beatrice out of their peaceful moments Her baby girl's startled crying filled the room, and Beatrice quickly stepped out of their room into the nursery, her brow furrowed with concern once she came back out.
"Rooster, what happened? Are you okay?" Beatrice's voice was laced with worry as she bounced Nicole gently in her arms, trying to soothe her daughter's distress.
Rooster slowly tore his gaze away from the photograph and turned to face Beatrice, his expression a picture of shock and confusion. He struggled to find the right words to explain what he had just witnessed.
"I... I don't know," he stammered, his voice trembling. "I was just getting some water, and I noticed the photo of my dad. It... I…I must be tired or something.”
Beatrice furrowed her brows, then walked down the stairs, still trying to comfort Nikki. "What happened?”
“...I…I’m pretty sure I saw his head move or something.” he laughs embarrassedly. Still trying to calm his heart down.
Beatrice blinked at him while approaching. She carefully held Nicole as she took a closer look at the photograph in question.  As she examined the picture of Rooster's dad, she frowns more, “...it looks the same to me,Roos."
Rooster ran a shaky hand through his hair, still trying to make sense of what he had seen. "I swear, Bea, it was like he moved for a split second. I know it sounds crazy, but I saw it." he gestures to it again, “It was like..a reflection or something,I don’t know.”
Beatrice exchanged a glance with Rooster before returning her focus to the photograph. She studied it carefully, looking for any hint of movement or distortion. Everything appeared normal.
"I don't see anything, Rooster," she said softly. "But…well…”
“What?”
“I mean…considering everything we’ve seen, and how you did think you saw your dad before…would that be so outlandish?” she asks softly, “Especially after what my aunt Martha said?”
Rooster's mind raced as he considered Beatrice's words. He had, after all, experienced some inexplicable events before.. And Beatrice's aunt Martha had shared unsettling stories about the supernatural…more than once.
Taking a deep breath, Rooster finally managed to speak more coherently. "You're right, Bea. It might not be as crazy as it sounds.”
Beatrice nodded, her gaze still fixed on the photograph. "It could be a sign or a message, or it could be nothing at all." she pauses, “You noticed this has been happening um…more now, since you're about to leave and be promoted to Lieutenant-Commander?”
"Yea…," he finally said, his voice regaining some steadiness. "It's just... you think he wants to tell me something?"
Beatrice gently rocked Nicole in her arms, her brow furrowed with concern as she shrugs . "Maybe,I know It's a lot to handle, especially with everything else going on. But if…your dad just wants to be with you, I mean, it’s not so bad."
Rooster nodded, his thoughts swirling as he considered the possibility that his father might be trying to communicate with him. "Yeah, you're right. If it is him, maybe he just wants to be a part of what's happening
Beatrice smiled warmly at him, bouncing a quieting Nicole this time, the little girl looked annoyed. "Exactly, Rooster. And who knows, it could be his way of being proud of you. Like my aunt said.”
“Yeah…” he pauses. “...I might…need to talk to Mav tomorrow.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah,I want to know…some things.”
-
He had never stayed with Mav when Beatrice was at work, in fact he wasn’t used to driving towards this area when the sun was already setting, it made him a bit tense and his eyes kept moving to Nicole who was happily babbling on the back seat.
Mav,when he heard he was bringing Nicole, immediately decided they could come as soon as they wanted. In fact, Rooster could see his uncle standing outside, hands on his hips and the wind making his jacket move a bit, “Well” he begins, “Your grand-uncle is waiting for you Nikki.” her attention turned to him, ‘Grandpa Mav is very excited to see you.”
Rooster pulled the car to a stop when he saw Mav, who immediately grinned back at him. He wasted no time, much like before, to open the back door and lean over Nikki.
He unbuckled Nicole from her car seat, and the little girl's eyes widened with delight when she saw Mav  "Hey there, Nikki," he cooed, lifting her out of the car seat. "Ooof! You are getting so big,” he says, bouncing the little girl on his arms and nodding when she showed him her rubber giraffe, “Yes,yes, very nice.”
Nicole giggled in response, her tiny fingers reaching out to pat Mav's weathered face. "G-pa Mav," she babbled with a big, few teethed grin.
Mav chuckled at her response. "That's right, sweetie. I'm G-pa Mav, and I'm so happy to see you today." he kisses her cheek, “Thank you for making your dad bring you over,I love your company!”
Rooster rolled his eyes with a sigh leaving his lips, then walked up to Mav with a small grin, “Hey Mav, thanks for meeting us tonight.” his uncle waved his hand as he took Nicole inside, completely ignoring Rooster. His nephew pursed his lips, then followed, even if a bit annoyed, “Listen,Mav-”
Mav was completely engrossed with Nicole, his attention fully devoted to the little bundle of joy in his arms. He tickled her gently and made funny faces, eliciting peals of laughter from the baby. It was clear that Nicole had captured his heart, and for a moment, Rooster couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy. After all, she was his daughter, and he had something important he wanted to discuss with Mav.
As they entered, Rooster decided it was time to get his uncle's attention. "Mav," he called out, trying to break through the spell Nicole had cast on the older man.
Mav finally tore his gaze away from Nicole, his warm green eyes meeting Rooster's. "Oh, sorry, Rooster. She's just too adorable. What were you saying?"
Rooster cleared his throat, feeling a bit flustered. "It's okay, I understand. I just wanted to talk to you about something important. It won't take long."
Mav nodded and carefully set Nicole down on a soft blanket on the floor, surrounded by her toys. She immediately began to play, her curious eyes exploring her surroundings. "Alright, shoot. What's on your mind?"
Rooster took a deep breath and tried to find the right words. "Well, you know I'm being deployed soon, and I wanted to discuss some…things."
Mav looked at Rooster with a chuckle making it’s way out, he looked very amused. "Alright. What is it?”
“Have you ever…dreamt of my dad after he died?” he better cut to the chase, it’d be much better to make this short.
Mav's expression shifted from amusement to a more contemplative one. He ran a hand through his hair, his eyes distant as if lost in thought. After a brief pause, he finally spoke, his voice quiet and hesitant.
"Yeah, I have," Mav admitted. "I've had dreams about Goose." and the shadow of guilt in his eyes was so heavy Rooster immediately regretted asking.
Of course he dreamt with him, he was there when his father died.
“And um…” Rooster scratches his forehead, choosing how exactly he’d ask this, “Well…were dreams…the only way you’d see him?”
Mav's eyes remained fixed on the floor as he spoke, his tone quiet and hesitant. He inhales with a soft chuckle, shaking his head a bit "Damn, bringing out the big guns, huh?"
“I’m curious,Mav.”
“I uh…” Mav rubs his forehead with his thumb, then drags the hand down his face, “Listen,Brad…I…I still…I still have issues dealing with his death. He was my best friend, I don’t–” Rooster knew he was saying that out of fear of being judged and he chose to stay quiet for now, let Mav finish his thoughts while he stood close by.
Rooster watched Mav as his uncle struggled to find the right words. He understood the pain that still lingered after the loss of his father, and he didn't want to push Mav into a difficult conversation. The weight of Goose's absence hung heavy in the room.
Mav finally sighed, his voice tinged with sadness. "I still can't believe he's gone, you know? It's been so many years, but it feels like it was just yesterday. Goose was like a brother to me, and losing him was one of the hardest things I've ever had to endure."
Rooster nodded in understanding, feeling the ache in his own heart. "I know…But I want to know if you've had any…signs or experiences that made you feel like he's still around, even in some small way."
Mav's gaze lifted, and he looked at Rooster with  his brows furrowed. "Signs? What do you mean?"
Rooster hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to explain the inexplicable. "I mean, have you ever felt like he's trying to communicate with you, even from the other side? Or have you had any unusual experiences that made you feel like he's still a part of our lives?"
Mav placed his hands on his hips. "I can't say I've ever had any experiences like that. I wish I had, but it's been mostly dreams for me."
Rooster's heart sank a little, “Ah.” he mutters, “So I’m going crazy maybe-no,I’m not, it’s–” he rubs his eyes, “Mav I saw my dad.”
Cue to the most deafening silence that had ever surrounded the two…with the occasional babbling from Nicole. Both men stared at each other, Rooster with his hands on his hips, lips hidden under his mustache and Mav with his eyes wide, mirroring his nephew’s pose.
Finally, Mav broke the silence, after a few seconds. His eyes about to pop out of his head and honestly, Rooster wouldn’t be surprised if his uncle somewhat fainted in a matter of seconds.
“What?!”
