Welcome to the use of blue and green with 911 couples is not confined to clothing and how I believe this applies to buddie since season 2, a masterpost. (this does contain an explanation of the use of blue and green in the more obvious way, the clothes, so even if you don't believe the other elements of the scene part, this could still bring some clarity on the way blue and green is important)
Okay, so, after 706 a lot of people said they thought about me with the buddie/bathena blue and green scene, and I LOVE THAT, but a few people also came to ask me to explain more about the blue and green in general and why that is important and I realized my blue and green thoughts are scattered into multiple posts because I did figure out more stuff since I wrote the first one and season 7 is giving me more things to support the 2 main color theory theories I have when it comes to buddie/Buck, so I decided I need to write one long post about it all, including thoughts on 706 specifically.
Okay, so easy pattern to spot first, the blue and green thing is used with a lot of couples throughout the show, core couples, adjacent couples, random people in calls, the blue and green is used in a major piece of clothing in a couple, a shirt, a jacket, a dress, after s6 the use of pants was introduced more explicitly, and that has transferred to s7, but it is something heavily used since s2 (I can't find a conclusive example in s1 and the first obvious example is madney's first scene in 206) (this will have a bunch of tiny images because I'm trying to stay within the image limit, but if you click on them you can zoom in if tumblr doesn't decide to hellsite, I made them high quality enough)
Tumblr media
And it is not just about meant-to-be couples, it's literally just a way to exemplify romantic connection. And while it is used a lot with most of the couples we see, the easiest couple to track is madney, since they have a lot of blue and green scenes, tracking back all the way down to their first scene, but bathena also have quite a few scenes. I love the scene at the station in 308 (last column, 3rd row down) because the cutout of kid Bobby makes it so there's a double blue Bobby there.
Tumblr media
So the clothes element is very easy to track. It is a very real aspect of the show. And that is interesting when you consider the actual color theory aspect of it, because blue and green are analogous colors, which means they are right next to each other in the color wheel, and that's a color scheme used to create a harmonious look, it's about cohesion, creating visual unity, and it is what this accomplishes, the couples look balanced even if we don't fully register why, they just naturally work well together and that translates even if you don't know color theory.
This is the part we know exists in the show, but the thing is, I don't believe the show only uses that with the clothes, and again, madney is the easiest way to track that.
I noticed this while making a 512 set for the hiatus rewatch since I was focusing on the scenery to pick the shots I wanted because something about that episode is that it is green in nature since it is a Saint Patrick's Day episode. But everything about madney that episode is blue and green even when madney isn't dressed in blue and green. Pretty much everything about it has blue or green elements.
Tumblr media
Maddie is wearing blue in the video, Chim is wearing green when he watches it, she's in blue while she's alone (even her hospital gown is blue, and that's not a common thing for the show), he's in green when he's alone, so we are still in the color scheme, there is a lot of green in the background that makes Chim and his vest stand out, we have green walls, that green bench, the blue red sox merch on the walls. But when they meet again, they are in neutral-colored clothing, contrasting with the background, and when Maddie tells Chim she wants to go home, both of them have blue and green shirts that are covered by a jacket, so the blue and green are not a focal point even if it's there, probably because they are not back in a place where they can get back together yet, and they are explicitly in blue and green in 601 when they do get back together.
They also did the whole make the episode blue and green with 706.
Tumblr media
The backgrounds are very blue or green or both, a lot of the people are wearing blue or green, Maddie's phone is green, Chim's car is blue, there is a lot of blue and green happening there.
Something else about madney being blue and green is that their house has a lot of blue and green decorations. So, I definitely wanna say that the blue and green are being completed by other elements of the scene.
Tumblr media
But I obviously have examples with other couples.
While doing the rewatch sets for 606 I noticed there are a few examples using Henren and other elements of the scene, 606 is also the episode that allowed me to include pants into this madness.
Tumblr media
The thing about henren is that they don't have a lot of blue and green scenes, the 2 we had before s7, because s7 did gave us a few more, are in when they decide on fostering and when Eva comes back the last time, but since their color palette is based on patterns a lot, I decided maybe I should expand my definition of what counted, that gives us one of the flashbacks, because Karen's pants are patterned in green and Hen's shirt is patterned in blue, they also have Hen in green pants for one of the dates and there's the blue lighting, there's the scene with Hen in a blue hoodie and the green background. So more elements of the scene were being employed there.
Another couple is Eddie and Shannon. I will be honest, it took me a WHILE to clock they had an explicit blue and green moment in the form of Chris' birth. BUT, looking at them season 2 and the flashbacks in Eddie begins, they have moments where Eddie is blue or green and Shannon has blue and green detailing, her jewelry, her nails, her car, background of a scene. Also when they are fighting about Eddie reenlisting, they keep switching holding blue and green stuff. Shannon has a blue cup, Eddie is holding a green bottle, the rag on Eddie's hand is blue, the oven mitt next to Shannon is green, so even though Shannon is never a fully blue or green character, she always has blue and green accents.
Tumblr media
Randon addon, but Thomas and Mitchell, the gay couple from Buck, Actually that is the couple that shows Buck what love is supposed to look like, they have a lot of blue and green details in their montage, the car, the driveway, the transition from a green cake to a blue cake, I just love that.
Tumblr media
Now that we have all of this established, let's talk blue and green applied to buddie.
So, using the established, just the top, point of focus of the outfit, buddie has 3 blue and green outfits, technically 4, but we will talk about the hangar later, because I have a lot to say lol, the loft scene in 613, the station scene in 617, the hangar scene in 704, and the dispatch scene, the street scene, and the wedding in 706 (I will also talk more about 706 later)
Tumblr media
One thing about buddie in blue and green is that they tend to have similar shades to past scenes with past love interests.
Tumblr media
I don't know why they repeated the shooting combo, I guess it's just because Taylor's greens tended to be less earthy than Eddie's usual shades, but, I was scrolling through bucktaylor blue and green scenes to see if I could find a match for the hangar, and I do think that works, but I was fully ready to go full delusional here and say Buck's hoodie in 706 matches Shannon's nails in 207, because they do, BUT, that one seems to be a double kill and I don't have to sound all that crazy, because it seems like it is a bucktaylor combo from 509 too (the lighting on the loft is obviously different from two scenes in natural sunlight, but they are similar enough)
Tumblr media
(Wait last minute addition that you don't know it's a last minute addition and can read more about here, but all thought s6, Buck and Eddie have matching blue and green phone cases, and the 706 scene seems to also somewhat match the shade of the phone cases from last season)
Tumblr media
And these are the explicit ones, I would say the 706 scene is even more on the nose since bathena are also in blue and green right next to them.
Now, for other elements of the scene tho, we can go back down to the beginning. As in the you can have my back any day scene.
Tumblr media
(Yes, I know the blue is because of the sirens, and it will eventually be red, but since red is such a prominent color for Buck, I can't really mind that all that much because I also have a color-theory theory that deals with the idea that Buck is red in scenes about doing the right thing about love and what more right for Buck than Eddie?)
But since I'm trying to stay within the image limit, let's rapid-fire some scenes here. If we ignore the uniform (I am choosing to because they don't have a lot of room with the uniform, it is what it is, and sometimes a scene will happen in the firehouse) Eddie is wearing blue after the tsunami and the will reveal, Buck's wearing blue after Chim goes after Maddie, Buck's wearing blue in the kitchen talk in 511 (and yes he's wearing blue because Taylor is wearing green, but he's still in blue), the shirt Buck has under the red jacket during the breakdown is blue, Buck is wearing something blue(ish) when they talk about the couches, Eddie is wearing blue on the poker date, Buck is wearing green on the cemetery. In the Carla scene, when Eddie shows up, they're not in the kitchen, and the backgrounds behind them are somewhat neutral. But funnily enough, it's only green behind Eddie there. (if you read my eddie fell first essay, you know I will die saying this is the moment that Eddie is done for so, love when an insane thought solidifies another lol), after the tsunami, we have green scrubs dude behind Eddie when Eddie sees Buck, even though most scrubs in the show are blue and everything behind Eddie is white, we have Buck and the blue of the tent, when they turn around, there's the green thingie behind Eddie and Chris, and the scrubs behind Buck are blue. Grocery store, the toilet papers behind Buck are blue and the outside along with the flowers behind Eddie are very green. Shooting, whatever that green thing behind Eddie is, Mehta's uniform, more blue uniforms, and a green medical person. 511 I just think are funny because Buck is wearing blue in the kitchen but everything about Eddie is white, and that's a fun contrast to the Carla scene and 517 is funny the way one side of Chris' room is mostly green and red and the other is yellow and blue and how Buck is on the green side and Eddie is on the blue (including his shirt). And the poker date, Eddie is in blue and the tables and chairs are green.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Considering using the pants, we also have the post-tsunami talk, the will reveal, and the 504 talk where Eddie has green pants on. Sure, the post tsunami talk, Eddie is both blue and green and there are no blue elements on Buck, but the will reveal, Eddie is both blue and green and the wall behind Buck is blue, and the 504 talk, Eddie has green pants and Buck has a blue hoodie on, considering the way the season 6 had the pants being in used with henren in 606 and with the girls from the oil well (both queer couples, I might add), I kinda wanna say that the 504 talk is traditionally blue and green lol
Tumblr media
We also have my Roman Empire, aka the cemetery scene.
Tumblr media
Because here's the thing, the sky is only blue behind Eddie and Buck is dressed in green. And also considering the way that they were being pretty consistent with Eddie being green and Buck being blue and the general breakup feelings surrounding the cemetery scene, the fact that bucktaylor switched colors mid-relationship, aka, when Buck tells her he kissed someone else, this is very interesting to me, because the colors in that scene feel like something that was accomplished on post-production, so they are like that on purpose.
Tumblr media
This is also something that is used in the gym scene in 705, because Buck is wearing a green coat and Eddie completes the blue and green with the towel and the bottle, and considering green is Buck there is something wrong color and Buck is beating himself up for lying to Eddie, the switch in colors when applied to Buck usually means something.
Tumblr media
With all this, let's talk blue and green in 706. Bathena is in 2 different blue and green outfits, the Buckley parents are in blue and green, bucktommy and buddie.
Tumblr media
The bucktommy blue and green is very interesting because for one I had to swatch the color of Tommy's shirt and also because when talking about the blue and green in general, the shades tend to match, so to have Buck in a very light mint green and Tommy in a very dark, almost black blue is... a choice, especially considering that bucktommy did match during their date in 705, and Buck is in green, Buck in green is never a good sign (meta on that here), and considering Buck switches colors during crisis, I'm curious as to why they already switched the colors for them, since green is Buck's breakup color.
And the buddie of it all, well, they spent the whole episode matching, literally with the costumes for the bachelor party, but they also stay in their blue and green combo for the duration.
Tumblr media
And to have buddie matching even in the bachelor party when the dude Buck is dating is there during the madney wedding episode is definitely a choice, even more, when you consider the way that Eddie is the one who is supposed to be the third wheel, in the costume design of it all Tommy was the one who was the odd one out, and considering the general married behavior buddie was exhibiting during the episode, it's a choice.
And since I'm already here, let's talk hangar scene.
Tumblr media
For starters, with this scene, we had a blue and green scene for buddie 3 episodes in a row, which is something on its own, BUT, I will say that I watched the clip of this scene before 704 aired and said "oh, buddie just went canon", because here's the thing, for starters they are in blue and green and Tommy is in shades of beige, so the color on their clothes is the focus, but they are not really the focus, and they do match, but we have to consider the way Buck is wearing a maroon hoodie under his blue and Eddie is wearing a black jacket over his green. That clearly meant some sort of development was coming they're just not fully there yet. For me at least. Because the show has Eddie in the army green armor and Buck in the red jacket of love, and to have Eddie in the army green but with something over it, not using it to protect himself is something, and Buck not being in his brighter reds is also something.
Tumblr media
To have this was very interesting for me, Eddie most of all because he's wearing black a lot and I have theories but I can't figure out why. But those are all colors used when Eddie is protecting himself and Buck is trying to understand something, so interesting. And then there's the actual dialogue of the scene "wait, you're not thinking about jumping ship?" "uh, no, I'm just, you know, keeping my options fluid." There is literally no more on the nose way to say don't jump ship than to literally have Eddie say don't jump ship. All that paired with the very obvious blue and green, definitely meant a plan was just set in motion for me.
I will link my Buck and the use of green and red again if you feel like reading more color theory theories. And also a theory about the use of blue and yellow this season.
Anyway, I think this is all, if you read this I love you 💜

but when i tried to love him i loved at the wrong time
this is a two for one spec inspired by this post and my long lost love trapped dads
any complaints about this fic can and should be directed to @evankinard who bullied me into writing this for her after i ruined her day with a single dm. love you bby <3
Eddie breaks apart a little the moment Buck disappears from view, lets himself feel the wound in his side as an excuse not to feel the big unwieldy thing unfolding in his chest like a colonising panic. He hadn't wanted to leave him, not after half an hour trapped in that smoky room clinging to each other to ground themselves in the reality they were trapped in, but Buck had made several stubborn and convincing arguments about Christopher before announcing he wouldn't move if Eddie didn't. Eddie had tried, had tried to get Buck out first, Buck who had just found happiness with—with Tommy, Buck who has always deserved to live. But Hen and Chim had come in with the clinical wisdom of paramedics and said a rebar through the abdomen was always going to take priority over a fractured leg.
Now, Eddie is rolled out of a collapsing building, leaving behind Buck—a bird with a broken wing, incapable of moving.
God, the noises Buck had made when he'd dragged himself over to Eddie's side. They'll be haunting him for years, for whatever lifetime he has left. Worse somehow than the first time with an entire engine on top of him. Except this time, Eddie couldn't hold his hand. Not now, but not before either because... Because that was someone else's job now. And like a laugh from the universe, Tommy appears just as Eddie reaches down to put the brakes on the gurney before Hen and Chim can get him into the ambulance.
"Kinard?" Bobby greets him with a grim-faced nod. "What are you doing here?"
"Heard you might need an assist from air support." He shrugs, but the breathlessness in the voice and the way his eyes keep jumping around the gathered 118 like he's only counting the one man not there reveals his nonchalance as the act it is. "Thought I'd swing by."
"Isn't that a conflict of interest?" Chimney asks.
"Fine, so I stole a helicopter again. Sue me for wanting to offer a hand." Tommy's face draws as soon as he stops speaking, and he glances back at the building waiting to swallow Eddie's heart whole. "How is he?"
"Holding in there," Eddie answers, voice tight enough to have Tommy really seeing him for the first time. "Think his bad leg is fractured."
"Shit," Tommy hisses, clenching his fists at his side.
"Yeah," Eddie breathes out. "Can't get himself out because of it. I wouldn't have left him, but—"
"He insisted," Tommy says, something entirely too knowing in his voice and his eyes. Eddie swallows thickly.
"And, well..." He gestures weakly to the rebar in his side, Buck's undershirt, now soaked through with Eddie's blood, wrapped around it as a makeshift bandage.
"Shit, Diaz." Tommy grimaces. "Shouldn't you be getting to the hospital?"
"He's refusing care until Buck is out too," Hen deadpans, pressing a new pad of gauze to his wound a little too firmly for it not to be intentional. Eddie just grits his teeth.
"Of course he is," Tommy murmurs. Eddie is too much of a coward to face up to whatever expression is on Tommy's face when he says it, so instead he focuses on the Incident Commander approaching Bobby.
"Site's been deemed too unstable," he announces. "No more personnel are to enter until we've found a way to stabilise it."
"My..." Bobby calms himself when his voice comes out in a growl. "My man is in there."
"And sending another man in there would be a suicide mission." The Incident Commander grimaces apologetically. "Sorry, Captain. That's an order."
Bobby turns his gaze back to the building, something so tightly drawn in him that it makes Eddie hurt all the worse. He knows without a shadow of a doubt what Bobby's thinking. He can't lose another son to a burning building.
And here, maybe this would be where Eddie runs back into the building and drags Buck out all on his own, maybe this would be where he finally gets to repay the favour for the gravel burn on his back, maybe this is where he'd get to redeem himself from the helplessness he'd felt just lowering Buck down to the ground. Except. There's a rebar in his side. Even with the adrenaline, even with the love... Eddie doesn't think he'd make it three steps before falling to his knees—a prayer in and of itself.
Instead, Eddie turns to look at Tommy. Tommy who is already looking at him, something determined and understanding and loving trapped behind the wildness of his eyes. A beat passes between them, silence saying more than they ever could.
"Bring him back to—" Me. But. Not to me.
Because that's not Eddie's place anymore. Eddie doesn't get to ask that of Buck's boyfriend. Eddie doesn't get to ask that at all. He's no longer the person that will be shaking Buck's pain pills into his hand and fetching him a bottle of water. He's no longer the person that will be wrapping Buck's cast in a bin bag for a shower and listening to him lament about the indignity of it. He's no longer the person that will be pulling Buck out of bed on his worst days to remind him that he's real and valued and loved. No, that's not his job anymore. But, fuck, Tommy's the only better man for the job.
"Bring him back to us," Eddie tells him then, and it feels like he's finally let go of the baton in the relay race, sure Tommy's got a hold of it now. And Tommy looks as wrongfooted by this as Eddie feels, but he nods anyway and grabs Eddie's discarded helmet from his lap, strapping it on.
"Kinard, no one goes in," Bobby warns him. "That's an order."
"You're not my captain anymore." Tommy only smiles and shrugs before sprinting towards the doors.
Bobby curses, but there's relief in it. Hen and Chim just watch him go with something hopeful on their faces. And Eddie. Eddie's eyes start to droop.
"Hey, hey, Eddie." Chim snaps his fingers in front of his face, jolting Eddie back into semi-consciousness.
"Eddie, we need to get you to a hospital," Hen says calmly, reaching for the brakes.
"Move me an inch and I rip this rebar out of my side," he says lowly.
"Jesus, anyone ever tell you you're a drama queen?" Chim huffs.
"Yeah." Eddie chokes on his next breath a little. "The man trapped in that building."
A solemn silence settles over them then. They redirect their attention to the doors Tommy had disappeared into, and Hen lays a grounding hand on his shoulder as they wait.
It's not long before Tommy comes stumbling out of the building, looking every bit the action hero Eddie has never gotten to be for Buck what with his soot-stained face and Buck himself slung over his shoulder, splinted leg bouncing against his sternum. Hen and Bobby spring into action immediately, racing to meet them. Chim just unlocks Eddie's gurney and loads him into the ambulance, raising him up just enough to catch a perfect view of Tommy lowering Buck onto his own stretcher with a kiss to his forehead. The ambulance doors close, Chim knocks twice, the sirens begin to whine, and they lurch into motion.
"Did you draw the drama queen straw?" Eddie asks to distract himself from the tenderness of Tommy's kiss.
"Higher ups are a little more serious about conflicts of interest now Buck is officially my brother-in-law," Chim mumbles as he works on getting Eddie's IV in. "But also I'm better acquainted with rebars than Hen, so..."
Eddie huffs a weak laugh as his eyes drift to the ceiling, the clean white of it stinging his eyes.
"Chim?"
"Yeah?"
"Tomorrow isn't promised to anyone, right?" he chokes out. He doesn't take his eyes off the ceiling, but the sudden silence in the ambulance is as deafening as the siren overhead.
"No," Chim says eventually. "No, it's not."
"But what happens if the person you love..." Here, his voice breaks. An almighty crack right through the middle. It sounds like the building behind them just came crumbling down in his throat. "What happens if someone told them first?" He turns to face Chim's wide eyes. "Should you still tell them?"
"I-I don't know..." Chim opens his mouth a few times, a fish out of water, before he makes a decision. He takes a deep breath and squares his shoulders. "But what I do know is." He clears his throat. "If you let a wound like that fester... It'll kill you, Eddie."
"Yeah." Eddie lets his eyes fall shut.
I can feel it already.

I present to you:
Tommy and Josh are friends. Somehow after some calls they got friendly and at one point decided to just hang out after exchanging numbers and texting for a while. They clicked. They found out they both were gay and it's so easy to finally have a friend that gets it.
So at one of their hangouts after the hurrican thing Tommy talks about the stunt the 118 pulled and he is like making fun before he talks about this guy being a literal golden retriever, trying to encourage the them and Josh just laughs and says "That's Buck alright." And Tommy just slowly turns to Josh with a look, a look that Josh has come to know and Josh goes "No Tommy, no."
And Tommy is all like "I didn't even say anything!"
And Josh is like "I get it trust me. First few times I meet him, I also crushed but that man is straight and also a giant idiot. His heart is too big and he wouldn't know how to turn you down. As his friend, I am telling you do not."
And Tommy goes "fine" and then they continue on with Tommy telling Josh about meeting up with Eddie and Josh makes a joke about the two army guys obviously bonding.
Cut to like three weeks later (They have both had different shift schedules and Josh has helped Maddie with the wedding) and they meet up after the restaurant date and Josh can sense something is wrong with his friend.
He wants to probe but Tommy just says "Thought I had a chance with a cute guy bit turns out he wasn't ready for something" and Josh gets it. He's been there, it sucks sometimes and he just offers his friend a shoulder to lean.
Another two weeks pass and when they meet up again Tommy is smiling. Like his nose scrunch smile which he only does when he is really smitten and Josh has truly only seen it once. So he immediately goes into questioning mood but Tommy just laughs and says "You know that cute guy? I think he is ready" but he won't elaborate further. And Josh is trying but Tommy just keeps giving vague answers and wow, Josh truly has never seen Tommy like this and feels a swell of happiness because whoever has his friend smiling like that better be good and worth it.
Josh also coincidentally has a meet up with the Buckley-Han family (they are already married to him basically) and he notices how Buck is glancing at his phone a lot and having this goofy smile and wow. He makes a joke about Buck having found a new girlfriend and Buck sort of freezes and now Josh feels bad but then he smiles such a soft smile it kind of hits him in the chest when he says "I am seeing someone and I am really happy." Cut to Chim wanting to probe but Buck not bugging and Josh just feeling happy for his friend. Maddie suddenly turns and ask "Did you want to bring them to the wedding?" and Buck kind of sheepishly replies "I already invited them." And Maddie softly chuckles talking about how gone her brother is and Josh is suddenly aware that Buck is using only they/them which isn't weird but it's not how Buck usually talks.
And Chim pipes up and says "With how much time you have been spending talking complaining about Tommy before, I have no idea where you suddenly got a date" and OMG.
Buck flushes a bit, Maddie laughs and Josh slaps a hand over his mouth to stop a giggle coming out.
Buck notices of course he does and when they are done later he pulls Josh aside and wants to talk but Josh just throws himself at Buck, hugging him.
"If you break his heart as his friend I have to hurt you. But as your friend, I couldn't be more happier for you" to which Buck kind of melts, chuckles and returns the hug.
On the way home, after some more heartfelt words because he knows how difficult and hard this can be, Josh stops the car at Tommy's flat, knocks up a storm and pushes past Tommy only to explode in the hallway as soon as the door is closed.
"YOU ARE DATING EVAN BUCKLEY AND YOU DIDN'T THINK TO TELL ME!"
And Tommy is a bit flabbergasted and laughs to which Josh kind of gets upset and says "I love you, I am fully in support of your relationship, I couldn't be happier, he is a catch but damn, are you telling me I could have had a chance?"
Which just causes a ridiculous laughing and giggling fit between two grown ass adults that Josh and Tommy will be happy to deny ever happened.

I know some people don't like how the thing that Bobby is a father figure for all the members for 118 hidden behind more bright relationships of that type between Buck and Bobby. But there are easy explanations:
Buck looks like someone who is close to what Bobby Jr could look like. Yes, Buck and Bobby's relationship are not only based on it but you can't tell me Bobby wasn't feeling something warm about this kid in season 1 because of how he looks like. And then this kid tries hard to make 118 family and support Bobby in season 1
Bobby was important person who helped Buck to grow as a person. All other characters doesn't have Bobby as such an important mentor. Even Eddie who asks advice about love life because they are having same grief
Everyone in 118 had normal mothers or/and another father figures. Hen? Good mother, yes with some problems with firstly support Hen's sexuality, but they got through it. And when Hen was a baby they were really close (season 4 and 5 showed it). Chim? Mother and Lees. Mr. Lee is Chim's father figure actually. Eddie? His mother had her moments like Hen's but we saw they are close. And Eddie has abuela and I think his abuelo was good. Tia Pepa loves him so much too. Yet, yes he's second after Buck who needs Bobby's advice a lot. Ravi ? From what was said he has amazing parents.
So no one in 118, except Buck sees Bobby as a parent figure because they had at least one normal parent. Not a poor sister who tried hard to be a parent (Maddie is the best but she was a child and couldn't actually be the real parent when she was a teen). Buck had TWO parents one worse that the other who never were good to him. That's why he imprinted on Bobby.
All the 118 has Bobby as a father figure yes, but he never was so important in making them they way they are, never was such an important part of their story as Bobby in Buck's

About the previous anon. I agree that we did get something but felt like we didn't get anything (?) to indicate their relationship status. I'm not wording this correctly. I mean we know they've been together for a while, *possibly* spending the night at eo's, but at the same time buck haven't talked about tommy apparently? (Idk if it's just bobby or the 118).
It feels like they're still in the testing things out/dating area and not boyfriends just yet, which is fine really.
But I'm hoping the hospital scene is gonna be a step for them getting closer, tommy being there for buck to relay on and get the support and comfort from him. It's gonna be a waste not to use this scene to advance their relationship.
I really hope next episode provides some solid information as to their canon status too! But buckle up because I’m about to overanalyze the fuck out of the scenes we did get:
Based off of this episode, I think it’s safe to say they’ve been seeing each other for at least a few months. During the award ceremony it was mentioned the cruise ship disaster happened “last March.” I didn’t see anything showing what month it current is, but based off the wording we can at least assume enough time has passed for it to be considered last year and not “this March.” That gives the relationship at least 3-5 months depending on how long it took Buck to work up to courage to call Tommy for the first tour of the harbour.
Buck and Tommy have also been together long enough for Tommy to feel comfortable enough to talk about how he was treated by Captain Gerrard and, likely, how he behaved around Chim and Hen back then. I wish we could have actually seen that, as well as the scenes between Tommy, Chim, and Hen hashing things out to make sure there’s no bad blood, but all we have are these new interactions showing all of them as friends now and the past firmly behind them.
But!!! What we did get this episode!
Buck softly signing when he sees Tommy getting his award and beaming like a proud partner.
Buck and Tommy being in sync as they walk around the station together.
Buck giving his bitchiest glare to Gerrard and putting his body between his man and that piece of filth (Chim is iconic for that new nickname).
We also get Buck shown as Tommy’s family/loved one during the ceremony. A clear pattern is established with Hen getting her medal and Karen and the kids clapping, Chimney getting his medal and Maddie clapping, and then Tommy getting his medal and the camera panning over to Buck as he breathes deeply and glows in pride for Tommy. (I also acknowledge that Eddie is shown after Buck gets his medal, but the show has established that Eddie and Chris are family to Buck so I don’t think there’s anything to shippy about it).
He hasn’t talked to Bobby about it, and we don’t know if he’s been talking to anyone else, but we do know that it’s not a secret. That hospital kiss was his announcement and maybe he’s happy with that being the extent of it. I think Buck is the kind of person to keep his happiness to his chest a little bit longer to make sure that it’s his and not everyone else’s. Which I know goes against his past relationships and how he’s always talked about them - but Tommy feels different, so the way Buck would treat their relationship would be different too. It’s something he was to protect and nurture and he doesn’t feel the need to ask his family about it because he already knows the answers.
So, yeah, definitely not as much as I would have liked, but the pieces of their relationship ship we did get were pretty indicative of something solid and meaningful being built between them. I’m crossing every finger the finale gives us more though. We’re being given scraps and I think we’re all going a little feral over the lack of anything truly substantial.

I have seen lately a lot of talk about how “Eddie needs to choose and Buck needs to be chosen” but I keep thinking this ALREADY happened.
Because Eddie chose Buck for Chris.
That is the single most important person in his life.
He had his abuela and his tias and his sisters and his parents. He had a whole ass girlfriend. He had Bobby who is so dad shaped. He had Hen and Chim who already had children. But Eddie chose Buck for his son.
Eddie who just a few weeks later would panic at the thought of Ana and him being a ready-made family. Who would literally panic at her being treated as family. Who wouldn’t even let his wife back into their life out of fear she’d leave again. Eddie saw Buck’s love and commitment to Chris, he saw how Buck never once gave up (which is so quintessential to his Buck-ness) and chose him for everything that others have seen as too much or too needy or too earnest. Because when Eddie had no one else to stand by him and support him and Chris and when he was at his worst and most lost… he always had Buck.
Buck has already been chosen. Buck has been already been put on someone’s top of the list. And Eddie made it explicit after the shooting. “That’s what I want for my son.” Buck is what he wants for Chris. And Buck isn’t an afterthought, he isn’t replaceable, he isn’t someone who can be discarded. For once, Buck is being told that he matters for who he is in a way that cannot be changed or left behind.
Buck who thinks he’s so easily left behind. Buck who has been abandoned by his parents, who has been left behind by every partner he’s loved, who has even been left behind by his sister when she was all he could count on. Buck was being told in that very moment “you are stuck with us” regardless of what happens, regardless of Eddie or him eventually needing to quit the job, there is no drifting apart. No matter what happens, even if Buck can’t be a firefighter, or they aren’t coworkers anymore, Eddie and Chris aren’t living him because he is, for better or worse, part of their lives. He is family. He has been chosen.
That’s why the will is the perfect love declaration for them. Because while it might not be directly romantic, it’s the very act of reaffirming that they will share their lives.
It’s so insane to me that this is already canon. I’m just-

Ok so— HEAR ME OUT FOR THIS ONE.
Whatever the heck happens to Chim, they end up needing support and it’s TOMMY that somehow saves him and gets him to their wedding (that probably likely ends up in the backyard next to the hot tub or something cause that’s just how Madney shenanigans work). Buck is so relieved and grateful and overcome with emotion that he kisses Tommy on the mouth! With his mouth! In front of everyone! PDA!
(Optional: + and that’s when Eddie is walloped by a crashing uh-oh wave of feelings realisation 😬)
okay i took your optional moment and added a twist I HOPE YOU LIKE IT DARLIN // send me a prompt here
Eddie feels sick - and it has nothing to do with the excessive alcohol he consumed the night before.
The helicopter starts to land in front of the house, their small group of friends and family grinning at the fact that Chim is waving at them from the window, looking just as worn and strung out as Buck and Eddie.
Buck.
Fucking Buck.
He's looking at Tommy land the helicopter with such awe in his eyes. When he lands it, everyone claps, which irritates him further for some reason even though he follows along with it. The helicopter powers down and Chimney jumps out, he and Maddie running into each other's arms. Tommy is smiling at them, this grand, open smile that makes Buck zero in on him.
Eddie watches Buck make way for him.
He jogs forward and Eddie watches as Buck grabs Tommy's face between his hands and pulls him in for a kiss - right there, in front of everyone.
Eddie can't even bother to look at who is shocked, who is surprised - he can't be bothered to see what Buck's parents do or say. He's just staring at them kiss, at Tommy wrapping his arms around Buck, at Buck kissing Tommy over and over again. They're smiling into the kiss, Buck's hand moving to the back of Tommy's head, fingers curling in the strands.
Eddie wants to throw up.
He looks away, he can't watch that - he's not homophobic, obviously, of course not. Hen is one of his closest friends. But...he can't watch Buck do that with someone. He can't.
You never had a problem when he was kissing girls.
But that was before...
"Eddie?" Maddie asks softly, as Chimney runs into the house to presumably wash up. Her hand is gentle as it grabs his shoulder. He meets her gaze - and she is looking so kindly at him that it makes him feel worse.
"Hey," he puts on a smile, but he can feel how fake it is. "Need anything? I can go help Chimney."
"No, it's okay." she squeezes his shoulder, looking over at her brother for a moment - their foreheads are together now, noses brushing, smiling and giggling. Eddie wants to punch a hole through a wall. Again. "It's okay, Eddie."
"What is?" he rips his eyes away from them, and focuses back on her.
She smiles knowingly at him. "Just because he's over there right now, it doesn't mean you won't get what you want, in the end."
Eddie's eyes widen. "Maddie...I..." but he has no good answer. No good answer to that, no good answer to the reason why he feels nauseous over the fact that Buck is kissing a man.
Maddie simply pats his cheek tenderly. "He's so easy to love." she whispers, before moving forward to kiss his cheek. This is a lot for him, too much, he and Maddie have never had a conversation this openly with one another about anything. "Just be patient." she whispers, before making her way into the house after her husband.
As Buck and Tommy part, they walk through the small crowd as everyone starts to make their way inside, Eddie simply standing there.
"Hey," Buck says as they walk up to him, hand in hand. "Ready to go inside?" he claps a hand on Eddie's shoulder.
Eddie looks at him, how beautiful he is. He doesn't even spare Tommy a glance.
"Of course," Eddie replies. "I'm just waiting for you, Buck."
Buck smiles brightly at him, and Eddie? Eddie will move mountains for that smile.
Eddie can be patient.

We All Fall Down
Spoilers for 9-1-1 7'10
I am not okay. That was a ride, holy shit.
I'm over the moon that Bobby is okay, I worried for a minute he might actually die this time and I guess he technically did his heart stopped for 14 minutes he's giving Buck a run for his money with that one. But he's safe and okay so that's good.
Poor Chris, that kid has been through so much I really hope he can work through everything and be okay. As much as I hate it time with his grandparents might be good for him. probably be good for Eddie as well, it can give him some space to work through his stuff as well cuz we know that man didn't work through anything. Also Buck was just as heartbroken and I wanted to cry with him, that's his kid too.
Madney fostering Mara so she doesn't have to be in a group home and can have contact with her family. I nearly cried I'm so happy for them.
Buck admitting Bobby is his dad was such a wonderful thing. They both know it, now they just need to say it to each other, course .somehow I know at least Bobby knows that's how Buck feels, Buck might have a harder time accepting it but I think he knows as well even if it's deep down.
Buck and Tommy are thriving and I could not be happier, I;m so glad we were wrong and the date happened after they knew Bobby was okay so they could just enjoy it but I'm gonna need to see Tommy support Buck through some hard times as well because we know he would be the sweetest, knowing the 118 it is bound to happen again.
Fuck Gerrard the bastard. Poor hen and Chim get to re-live that hell and now Ravi, Eddie and Buck have to experience it as well. No of them would be part of Gerrard's boys club so you know it's gonna be hell for everyone except Gerrard the fucking asshole. And you know Chim gonna get it extra worst for his comment at the award ceremony. I guess it could strengthen the relationships cuz now they all know what it's like but still that is a sucky thing to bond over and there relationships are already solid and unbreakable so we don't need it anyway.
One thing that I'm gonna need though it Tommy to come pick Buck up from work or something and hear Gerrard saying some awful shit to Buck and Tommy to just go protective boyfriend mode and curse Gerrard out and tell him off, but like on Gerrard's last day before Bobby comes back so it doesn't come back on Buck and the others later.
I'm just in shock, this whole season was packed with so much but this episode especially, I am not going to survive this hiatus.
Also are we could ignore Buck asking Tommy if he thinks he has Daddy issues and Tommy saying he hopes so. Like Bro. Tommy and his one liners, I just love Tommy Kinard.
Speaking of the date Tommy asking Buck if he was okay when talking about Bobby. My man Knew how much Bobby meant to buck at least to an extent, for crying out loud they met flying into a hurricane to save him that tells you he is important to Buck. Knowing this he makes sure to check in and make sure Buck is doing okay with the situation. It's moment like this that make me love him even more, as a character but also for Buck.
I just know next season is gonna hurt but I'm ready for it, I think. I can definitely be okay if we keep getting cute Teven moments. I will be devastated if they break up though, that will be the heartbreak I will never recover from.
Anyway time to read fluff fics until we get season 8

I stopped to think about it now.
Imagine how Maddie must have felt at the end, compared to her marriage to Doug and now to Chim ( my boy Chim would never purposely hurt his love).
With Doug it was the worst years of her life (I love how strong she is), her parents didn't support her (not that her relationship whit Doug deserved it, but she needed support and love), her brother probably hated seeing her get married (I mean , Buck never liked Doug so I imagine that seeing the person he loves most marrying someone he doesn't like must not be a good feeling), and focusing again on how much she suffered in that marriage.
Now Chimney? This man will do everything for her happiness, he will try, he would never do anything to hurt her on purpose and how much he suffered when she left (I'm not judging, I understand her completely) and he never gave up because he loves her. Seeing your parents really supporting you in this second marriage (even if things between you aren't 100%), seeing your brother (one of the most important people in your life) feeling happy and comfortable in her marriage, seeing how relaxed your brother is with her fiancé and the way they are brothers and will always have each other's backs on the field and off because they are family. And now it's official. Having each of the most important people to her there, at her moment. God, Maddie deserves everything good in her life. She deserved her big day, but the context of them getting married in the hospital. Imagine the duality, her daughter being born on the day that should have been the happiest day of his life and then her brother-in-law almost dying, they stay in the hospital. Her wedding, only for her fiancé to go missing, so they get married in the hospital, and are fine.
The fact that their relationship took a leap of trust and slowly built it is perfect, even in the hospital (post Doug's attack). I don't think people understand the complexity of this that much, maybe I'm full of shit, but look at her smile, her tears, and the fact that she's completely sure that Chimney is the right guy, and this time she's not wrong. That he wants her happy. And that he will always want her, with trauma and almost dying in a hospital, Chimney doesn't care because it's Maddie.
And these two are soulmates.
And I love that they got their happily ever after.

I have a fic idea,
what if instead of in season 5 when Chimney was tortured and Hen had to watch; Buck was tortured and someone had to watch. all while the others are breaking down trying to find him. Buddie ofc could/would happen but what do you think?
Ok so first of all, let me just say, I immensely enjoyed the Hen&Chim arc in season 5. Anything featuring their bestie-ism and unwavering support of each other is something that I would sell my soul for.
Second of all, ok, I am running with you on this fic idea, potentially in a different direction than what you originally intended, but I am running ok?!
So to set the scene, we’ve got Buck who somehow got kidnapped, I haven’t figured out why or how yet, but it happened. The rest of the 118 finds out, don’t know how either, but they did, and now they are consequently freaking out. Bobby is stressed but trying to keep his cool so he can keep the rest of the team functional so they can do whatever is necessary to get Buck back. Hen and Chim have a full crime board set up trying to put the pieces together. Eddie is going back and forth between helping Hen and Chim with the crime board and just generally spiraling over potentially losing the love of his life.
Things are not pretty, but there is still hope! Something that Bobby has been fervently reminding them of.
“118! Heads held high, we are going to get through this! We will find him!” Bobby calls to his coworkers gathered around in Buck’s trashed loft.
“Yes Cap.” Hen and Chim parrot dutifully.
Eddie is staring somewhere middle distance and not at all paying attention.
“Hen, Chim, make sure Eddie is breathing please.” Bobby sighed, running a hand through his hair to try and deal with his restless energy, “And nobody start panicking, I’m going to call Athena and she’ll know what to do.”
“Did anyone turn on the TV?” Eddie asked, voice so blank that it tore Bobby’s attention from where he was scrolling through his phone to get to his wife’s contact.
Bobby turned and found that the TV was showing a staticky screen, which was weird because Bobby could’ve sworn it had been off when they’d entered the apartment.
“Uh, that was off before, right?” Chim asked, panic creeping into his voice as he glanced around the apartment nervously, “Eddie, Buck hasn’t mentioned his place being potentially haunted lately, right?”
“Obviously not. Ghosts aren’t real.” Eddie said, gaze still fixed unwaveringly on the TV.
“Look, it’s fine. It’s just some static.” Bobby said in his calmest voice, “I’m sure we just… missed it, when we came in.”
“Right. A group of first responders who are all trained to take in an entire scene in seconds all just… missed it.” Hen said, eyebrows raised to show her skepticism.
She was right, of course she was, Hen was rarely ever wrong, but for the sake of keeping everyone calm and rational he really didn’t need her poking holes in his explanations. In fairness though, Hen being overly critical and suspicious was her own way of panicking in these types of situations. Sometimes he just forgot that because she rarely ever panicked.
“Either way, it’s fine.” He said, taking a deep breath as he turned his back on the TV to face them, “It’s just some static, it isn’t going to hurt us.”
It was right as he finished his sentence that they all gasped and rushed past him to huddle around the TV screen. He whipped around to see what had startled them so much and found that the static had been replaced. Now, displayed across Buck’s flat screen was Buck himself.
He was tied to a chair that was bolted down to the floor and he was gagged with what looked like some cloth and duct tape. He had also clearly been beaten and there was blood and bruises all over him.
“Jesus, kid.” Bobby muttered as he darted forward to get closer to the screen like the others. “What did they do to you?”
“I’m going to rip whoever did this to shreds.” Eddie muttered darkly, and the others just nodded along.
“Bobby, it’s time to call Athena.” Hen said, not daring to take her eyes off the screen, “Buck doesn’t look great, we need to get him to a hospital.”
Bobby didn’t bother arguing with her, instead unlocking his phone which was still in his hand and tapping the call button on Athena’s contact. The phone rang once in his ear before Bobby was hearing Athena’s ringtone.
That made no sense though, because Athena wasn’t here so why would her phone be?
Hen straightened, shooting Bobby a puzzled look having also recognized the ringtone as her friend’s. “Bobby, what-”
Hen cut herself off as there was a sudden movement on the screen. There was a gloved finger being ticked back and forth in front of the camera in a ‘no no no’ motion. Then the camera was swinging sickeningly fast and the screen showed a new person sitting in an identical chair tied up and gagged.
It was Athena. She looked decidedly better than Buck did with no visible injuries and enough wherewithal to glare at the camera with enough fire to melt the world. The gloved hand came back into view, holding Athena’s phone this time with the screen lit up showing an incoming call from Bobby. The hand waited a minute, probably to give them enough time to see what he was holding before it pulled away and then the phone was smashing against the wall by Athena’s head.
To her credit, she didn’t even flinch, her fiery gaze unwavering on whoever was behind the camera. Then suddenly the image froze and then the screen turned black once more.
It was dead silent in Buck’s apartment before Chimney asked, “Uh, Bobby? Is it time to panic now?”
“Yes.” Bobby breathed out before he could think better of it, panic clawing its way up his own throat as his breaths turned shallow and ragged.
He couldn’t do this, not again. He couldn’t lose his wife and his kid again, he wouldn’t survive it this time.
“Ok, woah! No one panic!” Hen called, snapping her fingers in front of all their faces as forcefully as she could.
“Bobby, calling your wife obviously isn’t going to work.” Hen pointed out, “So now it’s time to call mine.”
Cue Karen coming in and kicking ass with her investigative skills and her ability to create investigative computer programs. Then we get Bobby&Eddie double teaming saving the people they love while Hen&Chim provide back up. Maddie comes in about halfway through when Chim panics and tells her what’s going on and she gets dispatch to help Karen&Co with her investigation. Buck is super injured by the time they got to him, Athena is ok but incredibly pissed because she wasn’t rly the target. The kidnapper knew the 118 and knew that Athena would be able to find them cause she’s awesome so they just kidnapped her too as a precaution. Unfortunately they underestimated the rest of the 118. But anyway, happy tearful reunions for all and plenty of buddie, Bathena, Henren, and even a bit of Madney content.
Anyway, tysm for this ask, this was fun to write :)

I’m obsessed with your established Buddie specs, I need more more more -
(This is very rambly but I wrote too many Adult Emails today, my brain needs to fly free)
I saw your spec on how Helena and Ramon would react to the Buddie relationship; what about Buck’s parents? Where does their friction come from? I haven’t finished s6 yet and I know there’s some kind of reconciliation, but I think it could hard for Margaret especially to see Buck happy and in love and with his own family when Daniel never got a chance to have that. And Eddie is so protective of Buck and his happiness and making sure he knows how amazing and loved he is, I don’t think it would take much for him to get down and dirty bitchy with Buck’s parents when they discount him, and Buck’s caught between feeling loved and cherished while also being so so anxious about making sure his parents appreciate Eddie like they never appreciated him.
Just, all the in-law drama: What would be Eddie’s parents’ biggest problem with the Buddie relationship, and visa-versa? And what would each of their parents do that would send the other into berserk protective mode, and what would that look like? What kind of legitimate conflicts could arise around their parents, especially within the Buddie relationship?
Tumblr media
i WOULD love to see Eddie getting a little bit bitchy with Margaret and Philip I'm not going to lie to you...i also would love some brother-in-law bonding of Eddie going to Chim for advice on how to deal with the Buckley parents.
But I think overall Eddie and Buck both would let each other take the lead in terms of how to deal with each set of parents. And I do feel like post-s6 Buck HAS kind of reached a new level of peace when it comes to his relationship with them. Like you'll see when you get there but I feel like the "reconciliation" was more just Buck accepting that they're never going to have this perfect relationship and that even when they are trying, it might never really be enough or undo all the hurt but that he's accepted the relationship for what it is because he has Bobby and Maddie and the rest of the 118 and, of course, Eddie. So I think interacting with his parents at this point is just a reminder for him to be grateful for the family he's built on his own.
And in terms of Eddie's parents, I think Eddie would be quite protective of his relationship with Buck, because they really did NOT treat Shannon with very much respect at ALL during any part of their relationship. It's clear from the few glimpses we see during Eddie Begins that they did not think Shannon was a good mother, and I'm sure her leaving only cemented the idea for them. So I definitely see Eddie being very very protective of Buck and protective of the fact that he's the one person Eddie AND Chris have really truly depended on for the past six years.
I could see something happening where like Helena and Ramon are definitely trying to be supportive, but Helena kinda sees Buck as this sort of goofy, maybe slightly immature bachelor guy and makes some sort of innocuous comment to that effect, or otherwise make it clear that she doesn't see him as a "real" parent to Chris. and Eddie just shutting that down and perhaps it blowing up into a whole thing because it's touching on the same bruise about Shannon, and about Eddie himself and his fitness as a father.
And ultimately I feel like the resolution to this is Chris himself showing them (maybe not purposely, maybe he's not even AWARE of the conflict) how much he does trust Buck and how much Buck's been there for him.

I can't wait for when buck feels comfortable to tell hen and chimney about tommy. I think hen will be more supportive and telling him to take his time in understanding and absolutely just happy he felt comfortable enough with her to disclose this to her. I want buck is going to tell her that her just being who she is just out and proud is how he wants to be
I think chimney would be more funny and poke some fun at him about it like "damn I owe Maddie $20" and idk he just wants buck to know that he is happy for him and also happy to set him up with someone as he did set Karen and hen up and look how well that turned out!!!
im literally so excited for buck to come out to everyone. and (hopefully) introduce tommy as his boyfriend!!!
i think everyone is going to be supportive, but also it’s buck so they’re gonna tease the shit out of him as soon as they get the chance. i could write whole stories and essays about exactly how i think everyone is going to react.
as far as hen and chim specifically, i think hen is going to be supportive but also probably want to bang her head against the wall when and if buck tells her about the first date. i feel like we dont get too much one on one between hen and buck and i would love to see more of that as buck stumbles through accepting himself and his sexuality. it would be really cute to see hen still be that mothering figure where she gives buck the advice that maybe he doesnt really want to hear, but also still being there because she knows what its like to come to terms with that part of yourself. plus i just really want to see a henren and bucktommy double date.
for chimney, you know he’s going to be more supportive than teasing at first. we’ve seen buck and chim grow closer and i think chim is aware how sensitive buck might be to teasing him about having a boyfriend right off the bat. even if chim normally fucks with him all the time. i mean thats their relationship, but also theres this very evident that they care about each other a lot and not just because they’re brother-in-laws. i would love to see chimney tease buck about his relationship with tommy the more buck opens up, but i need the intial convo to be mostly sweet and caring. on the flip side, i think it would be down right hilarious for chim and buck to have this conversation during the bachelor party when they are absolutely trashed.

Ooh!!! please do 8,13,17,19,25,40 🥰🥰🥰🥰
oh oh oh!!! some really good ones here if I do say so myself! 🥰
cheek kiss
"Make sure Buck doesn't stay up too late," he added, grinning up at the man in question who rolled his eyes in response.
"Go or you're gonna be late," Chris said without looking up.
"Okay, okay." Eddie lifted his hands in surrender and headed to the door which Buck was holding open for him.
"Have fun," Buck said with a grin.
"I will. Thanks again, Buck. See you later." Leaning in, Eddie cupped one side of Buck's face with a hand and pressed a kiss to the other side before ducking out the door and getting in the elevator.
The doors were shut and he was on his way down to the ground floor when he realised what he'd done.
don't say his name
this one is a little bit dumb jskfhes but the idea is that buck and eddie get dared/bet that they can't go a whole day/week (I haven't decided yet) without saying each other's name
Looking up, Chimney opened his mouth to remind him about the week-long dare they had to adhere to, but was interrupted as Eddie said, "Hey, Babe."
"So good to see you, Love," Buck said, giving Eddie's shoulder a squeeze as he passed him on his way to the kitchenette for a cup of coffee.
Chimney and Bobby stared at them in surprise.
"What?" Buck asked as he put the coffee pot back down.
Chimney shook his head and said nothing, looking back down at the magazine he had in front of him.
"Wasn't the dare just that you couldn't use each other's names?" Bobby asked.
"Yeah, and?" Buck asked as he leaned his arms on the counter. "We didn't."
"No, but..." Bobby looked between the two of them before letting out a quiet sigh. "Never mind. Carry on."
fwb no kissing rule
Buck stared up at him. Eddie didn't look horrified or as though he'd just realised how Buck felt and was about to say that they should put some distance between them from now on. So maybe Buck had just been paranoid thinking that his kiss would reveal how in love he was with Eddie.
Giving it a try, he reached up and pulled Eddie back to him. Their lips met again and this time they kissed with a gentle passion that took Buck's breath away.
Eddie pulled back again a moment later, eyebrows drawn together in a frown. "Are you sure? You said… You said no kissing."
"I know," Buck said, fingers playing with the ends of Eddie's hair at the nape of his neck. "I've changed my mind."
hits different - jealous buck
"I have a date this Friday," Eddie said with a shy smile. Hen and Chim immediately starting crowing excitedly, but Buck felt his blood freeze in his veins.
"You what?"
Eddie looked over at him, his smile faltering. "Uh, yeah. Her name's Mabel."
Buck stared at him, trying to swallow down the sour taste stuck in his throat. He needed to say something supportive, smile, tell Eddie that it was fine. He needed to be happy for his best friend, but he couldn't bring himself to.
"Buck?" Hen asked with a frown, leaning over the bench towards him. "You okay?"
"Don't go," Buck burst out.
kiss your best friend passionately
"Would you passionately kiss your best friend for one hundred dollars?" Chimney read from his phone.
"Are you kidding?" Buck exclaimed, slapping a hand down on the table. "I'd do it for free!"
Eddie looked up as Buck swivelled towards him on his chair. Then, before Eddie had time to react, Buck had grabbed hold of his shirt and pulled him into a kiss.
to the core
I am honestly so excited for this one but I think it's gonna take me a while to finish because I really wanna get it PERFECT you know?
Switching the TV off, Buck stared in stunned silence. He remembered seeing Eddie talking to the reporter during that call, but hadn't thought much of it. Eddie rarely spoke to the press and when he did his words were usually clipped and awkward.
But this…
What Buck and I have goes beyond friendship and I love him to the core.
It wasn't anything that Buck didn't already know, and yet the way it had been phrased made it impossible for him to shrug off. No one had ever told Buck they loved him to the core before. To the core meant all of him, the good and the bad. The things he wanted people to see and the things he didn't want anyone to see.
And Buck knew that; he'd always known that Eddie saw him and loved him for exactly who he was. But hearing it spelled out like that?
Suddenly it all felt much more real.

Buck followed Bobby into the kitchen and began to run the water, watching as suds appeared from the small amount of detergent he’d squeezed.  He started washing the dishes, scrubbing away at them until he felt Bobby’s hand on his shoulder.
“I wanted to check how you were doing, kid” Bobby said, his voice gentle.
Buck set down the plate he was scrubbing and let out a sigh. “Honestly, Bobby, I’m not sure. All my emotions about this, they’ve been so confusing.”
“Confusing how?” Bobby asked.
“Confusing because I don’t know how to feel about it all. I’m sad she’s dead because I loved her once, but I’m angry because now I need to explain to Aidan who she was and what she did, but I’m also guilty for being angry at her because she was sick, and it’s all so fucked up Bobby!” Buck voice broke and he hung his head, arms still resting inside the sink.
“Hey, it’s okay, Buck, it’s okay” Bobby grabbed Buck’s shoulder and spun him around, pulling him into a tight hug. Buck clung to his shirt as he sobbed, and Bobby couldn’t have cared less about the way the fabric became uncomfortably cold against his skin. He held Buck as his body shuddered with the release of all his pent-up emotions, rocking them gently from side to side. “You’re okay, Buck, you’re strong”.
“I just feel so stupid, Bobby. Why can’t my brain produce a rational thought about this?”
Bobby chuckled. “Grief isn’t rational, Buck. It takes you for a ride and shows you what really matters. Like your sons and your partner. Aidan, Christopher, and Eddie aren’t going anywhere, Buck. Nor are Athena and I, or Hen, or Chim, or Maddie. We’ve all got you and we’re all here to support you through this.”
Buck sniffled and pulled back to wipe his eyes. “What should I do about Ellen?” he asked, his voice quiet.
Bobby shrugged. “That’s entirely up to you and Eddie, Buck. But if it were me, I’d probably let her in. She doesn’t have to be here every week. Just, you know, send her a photo every so often. Invite her to his birthday. Small things that would mean the world to her but won’t be too much of a burden for you.”
“That doesn’t seem too bad” Buck agreed. “I don’t know why but I suddenly had visions of her turning up on my doorstep and demanding custody of him.” He laughed at this and wiped his eyes again. “It sounds so stupid, but I really thought Taylor might have given her instructions to take Aidan, just to fuck with me”.
“Considering the hell she put you through, it doesn’t sound at all stupid. A little dramatic, sure, but not stupid.” Bobby put a hand on Buck’s shoulder. “Talk about it with Eddie. That man loves you and your son more than anything in this world and I know he’d bend over backwards to help you. We all would”.
Buck sniffed. “I appreciate you being here for me, Bobby.”
Bobby smiled and patted his shoulder. “Anytime, Buck. You’re a good kid and I hate to see you hurting like this.”
“I’ll be okay.”
“I know you will. But, I think it would be a good idea to see Dr. Copeland again. Maybe she’ll help you sort through some of these feelings.”
Buck let out a small laugh as he returned to scrubbing the dishes. “Did Eddie make you say that? Don’t worry, I’ve already got an appointment scheduled. I’m going to see her next week.”
“Good” Bobby replied “because I don’t want a repeat of Eddie’s breakdown, got it? I can’t lose another valuable firefighter.”
“Yeah, I know. I’ll see her regularly, I promise”.
And Bobby knew he would.

Finished season 3 of 9-1-1! What an incredible season. I love how easy it is to love the characters in the 118. So much character growth for my favs :’)
Some notes & observations:
- Chim is SUCH a good character 😭 the halloween episode this season was one of my favorites because of how lighthearted it felt compared to other eps.
- Abby coming back in the last episode made me hurt so bad for Buck. I beg your finest pardon- she felt like if she came back for him, she’d go back to being what she was before? That’s such a cop-out excuse. I hated that. I get that she needed to get out of there, but never communicating with Buck about how she felt is horrible and he did NOT deserve that. Good riddance. (no forgiveness to the woman who made him feel unworthy and bad)
- The tsunami arc was SO GOOD. Deeply impressed by it, and have been filed under “favorite episodes” (an ever changing list atm)
- Buck and Eddie did reach the “best friendism” I was looking forward to in season 2, but just like season 2, there is so much queer coding in their friendship. There’s little moments where they’ll say/do something for each other that feels so romantic, and it makes it difficult to look at their friendship as the platonic one it was supposedly intended to be.
- continuation of the last point : when Eddie got trapped in the well system & was dreaming of Christopher (which ultimately gave him the motivation to keep going and survive…chef kiss for that), there was A WHOLE LOTTA BUCK in that montage!! It’s almost like Buck is coparenting his child! Anyway.
- I’m not a huge fan of cops, and this season kind of highlighted many of my reasons. I really like Athena and how she interacts and supports other characters, but her attitude towards the general public feels icky to me sometimes. Michael and her kids nearly getting hate-crimed was awful and made me so sick, but the way she reacted to it was so ????. It kind of tainted her character a little bit for me. (although her arc at the end with the rapist was really sad and I gained a bunch of respect back for her wanting to take care of that)
- Maddie + Chim are a top tier couple, and MADDIE IS PREGNANT?!? what???? I’ve seen several spoilers for this show but I knew nothing about this arc!! Nada! So I am very much looking forward to seeing what happens there 👀
- I don’t know if I was imagining it, but I felt like a lot of the emergencies that happened this season felt very personal to the 118. More so than the last two seasons.
- I wish Bobby was my dad :(
- And on my last point, I fucking adore Hen and Karen. I want more of their story. Hen is such a beautiful character to me, and I’ve loved seeing her growth. Her relationship with Karen is incredible too (which I’m glad about, the cheating storyline in S1 was awful). I want more of my mother lesbians ❤️
I’ve heard from several of you, as well as my lovely sister-in-law, that season four is…exciting…so wish me luck ✋🏼
