Does anyone have advice for someone (me) looking to get back into horseback riding?
It's been about 10 years since I had serious lessons, but I've done trail rides between then and now. I'm nervous about getting back in the saddle honestly

I'm not sure if it's a good idea necessarily, but I was thinking about how with riding horses, a nonzero amount of the trouble is keeping your own stupid body in the correct position.
Horse game where the rider is kind of QWOP-y and needs to be kept in ideal position.
Hardmode: Horse that handles like a jackhammer so you have to adjust the riding position constantly
Easymode: A paso fino

I’m so sorry for this guys but
AITA for telling someone their horse was masturbating?
Basically does what it says on the tin. For those of you who don’t know horses can masturbate. It’s most common in male horses under the age of three who have not had their testicles removed and who are confined to a stall or small pen and get really bored. They typically grow out of the behaviour once they’re older or given more freedom. Some owners try to train them to stop it from happening but most just ignore it because it’s better than other boredom behaviours like cribbing and wind-sucking (both are SFW to Google btw).
Anyway, I’m a groom and stable hand, mid-twenties now but been working at my job since I was fifteen (part-time then, now full-time). The stable I work at boards horses and gives lessons but also offers training for young horses, so we get a lot of OTTB here – that is “off-the-track Thoroughbreds”, so ex-racing horses that people typically buy cheap and then retrain to be show jumpers or dressage horses or whatever. One such horse is Bert, who is the horse in question in this situation.
Bert has excellent bloodlines but he sucked as a racing horse so he was sold OTT. The man who bought him, I’ll just call him John, knows nothing about horses – he’s a total beginner in every way, has never ridden and pays other people (including me) to take care of Bert, but claims to be an expert in everything equine because Bert cost him so much money (I don’t know the actual amount but he’s in the section of the stable where the $20,000 Warmbloods are boarded so I’m assuming around that amount which is a lot yes but also not the most expensive horse we’ve had here).
Anyway the actual story – I’m at work cleaning out stalls when John walks past, he completely ignores me as he always does so I do the same and get back to work. A few minutes later he goes sprinting back in the opposite direction which I thought was weird but whatever, I kept mucking, until I heard him shouting for help. I went out into the aisle and he’s there shouting at another groom and demanding to know the emergency vets number (it was a weekday morning btw, so he didn’t need the emergency vet, he just needed the regular vet but that’s meaningless anyway). I went over to see what was happening and he tells me his horse (Bert) is ‘acting weird’ and needs a vet immediately, so I offer to go see Bert for myself and then call the vet if necessary.
So basically yeah Bert was masturbating. Had an erection, was rocking about rubbing it on his tummy, and did NOT want anyone going in his stall or touching him. John points at Bert and says something like “see, he’s sick!” and then tells me Bert tried to attack him when he entered the stall and I just, I dunno, I cough and say that Bert is fine and just wants some privacy right now, figuring that the obvious erection might be a giveaway as to what’s happening? But John turned to me and blurts out word for word “are you an actual retard” and then starts cursing at me and telling me I know nothing and Bert needs a vet etc and so on. I kind of blanked on everything else he said after he called me a retard to be honest because WTF? I don’t really know what went on in my brain in the next few seconds but I ended up shouting – yes, shouting, extremely loudly, it fucking echoed in the stable – “he doesn’t need a vet because HE’S JUST MASTURBATING” in John’s face and then walking back to the stall I’d been mucking.
As I got back to the stall I heard laughter from a couple of aisles over. Apparently my co-workers and some riders who were there had all heard me shout and found it hilarious, and that made me laugh too because it was so freaking ridiculous. I honestly kind of forgot the entire encounter afterwards because we had a horse who actually needed a vet a little while later and yeah, John and Bert just slipped my mind.
I didn’t remember until that afternoon when my boss came to see me and said he’d had a complaint from John who wanted me fired. I did not get fired but I did get ‘warned’ (just a formality, my boss didn’t actually punish me but wanted me to act like I had been if John questioned me later, which he never did). John complained that I’d treated him like an idiot, spoken down to him, and “acted above my position” (those were the exact words he used) causing people to laugh at him. I explained the entire situation to my boss, who also laughed, and that was that, nothing else ever came of it aside from my co-workers telling the story of me shouting HE’S MASTURBATING so loudly it scared a pony into jumping so suddenly that it farted to everyone they possibly could.
Since then John has ignored me even more than before which I honestly consider a blessing, and I would leave this situation thinking I’m NTA except that one of my co-workers brought their boyfriend to the stable recently and when they introduced us the boyfriend said something like ‘oh right, you’re the asshole who talks down to people who don’t know everything about horses’ and yeah. My co-worker was blindsided by that as well and we basically both said you don’t have to know everything about horses to know what an erection means, but since then I’ve been wondering if I am TA in this situation? Like, clearly there were better ways to tell John what his horse was doing, but he called me a retard and also I get paid to take care of horses not to teach the birds and the bees to fifty year olds so I don’t know. I’ll let Tumblr decide.
So, AITA for telling John his horse was masturbating?
Additional info: I'm on a rota with other stable hands so I sometimes groom Bert, muck his stall, attend to his vet/farrier appointments, give him worming paste, etc and so on. I am not his trainer and have no input into when he gets to leave his stall. I've mentioned to my boss a couple of times that he boredom stims and should be in a paddock with other young horses, but John refuses to agree to that for reasons I don't know. My boss has since spoken to Bert's trainer who is now trying to convince John to let Bert have more time outdoors.
What are these acronyms?

Red dead characters as horses, based not on vibes but personality.
Firstly, I am an equestrian of twelve years I know that a horse's breed doesn't fully determine it's personality and you can find any horse of any breed with any personality, but this is based on stereotypes, my own personal experience and well... Google. Again, this is not by vibes, but personality so reflect a little from horse to person.
Arthur Morgan - American Quarter Horse
Tumblr media
No matter if it is a show pony or a workhorse you are looking for, the American Quarter Horse got you. It is known for being easy to handle but reliable no matter the job given. It is a good all-around horse and can handle anything from beginner lessons to high-level competitions.
Hosea Matthews - Norwegian Fjord Horse
Tumblr media
Very sweet and docile-looking horse but make no mistake, this beast has more opinion, sass and stubbornness than you would ever imagine. Intelligent in the way that it is fully aware of the people around it and knows when it is time to play tricks and run corners and when it is time to play it sweet. The second you dare underestimate it it will remind you that it is in fact stronger than what you might expect.
Dutch Van Der Linde - The Andalusian
Tumblr media
A horse breed known widely for being elegant and fancy but unlike many other hot blooded (reactive) horses, tends not to get hurt as easily, coming out fine from situations where the other hot blooded might have gotten wounded in. Although known for being smart, attentive and sensible, they can easily become too much to handle if handled wrongly.
John Marston - The Arabian
Tumblr media
Now I know some people are gonna be like "no that doesn't fit at all!" but hold on, just listen, hear me out. Although generally known for being hot-headed, hard to control and stupid, they are actually quite intelligent, have a high endurance and are well aware of their surroundings. With dense and strong bone structure they are quite resilient to much, however they do tend to get wounded in their own hot-headedness... (John I am looking at you strolling up to Fort Mercer and getting fkn shot on sight, tf you thought was gonna happen?)
Javier Escuella - American Mustang
Tumblr media
A wild horse known for its stubborn spirit and the lengths it will go to for freedom. It takes a long time trusting, however once having earned its heart it is the most loyal you can find. It is also a highly adaptable horse.
Bill Williamson - Irish Cob/Gypsy Vanner (Same breed, different name)
Tumblr media
Lazy, hard to get moving and often seen as bad, the last choice or a breed that wouldn't hold up in bigger competitions, however is actually quite good and does any job well. They are eager to please (Bill to Dutch) and can also grow a beard!
Till Jackson - The Shetland Pony
Tumblr media
Small and very adorable looking to a point one thinks they are harmless, and while they can be very sweet, they are going to throw you the second you least expect it. They will not let their short stature and cute appearance be a disadvantage to them but instead use it against others. (Knew one that bit the taller horse's stomach and became the damn leader of that herd)
Charles Smith - The Friesian
Tumblr media
Often seen as scary and frightening looking due to their tough exterior, however they are very kind-hearted and highly intelligent. They are loyal and well-mannered, very reliable and makes a good companion.
Kieran Duffy - The Haflinger
Tumblr media
A very gentle and generally curious fella. Known for being very friendly and people-oriented. If you spend any time around them you will also often find out that they are quite silly, however make no mistake, they are still horses and thus will always be dangerous.
Josiah Trelawny - Pryor Mountain Mustang
Tumblr media
An endangered form of Mustang that are known for elegance and athleticism and while could easily make for a great show pony there is a few problems. They are not very reliable as they are quite skittish and tend to flee as well as be quite hard to tame and tie down.

GIRL DAD NANDO (another lol) WHO'S DAUGHTER WANTS TO RIDE HORSES
Tumblr media
Fic header by @papaya-twinks thank you love <3
I genuinely LOVE writing all the grid as horse girl dads, PLEASE send more!
When his daughter, Isabella, asked him if she could ride, he had to be honest with himself; he thought she meant karting at first. But when she laughed at him and told him, “No, Papa! Ponies! Can I pretty please learn to ride?” he couldn’t say no to her.
He began researching horse riding the very next day and learned everything he could. Fernando researched the closest stables, which ones had the best reviews, and which had the best ponies, because his daughter only deserved the best. He got her enrolled at a riding school the very next morning, and she had her first lesson that weekend.
He watched her smile grow as the stable hand fitted her with a helmet and boots. His heart was filled with joy and terror as he watched her climb on top of the huge horse they had tacked up and ready for her.
“Papa! Look!” she was giddy with joy as the instructor led her around the riding ring on the lead rope.
If you had asked him a few years ago if he thought he’d be spending his weekends at a riding stable instead of a karting ring, he’d have laughed, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.
After a few weeks, he knew there was no stopping her from continuing riding. The instructor told him she had natural talent, and she had learned how to ride around by herself and had even begun trotting by herself.
He knew Lando’s sister rode horses, and although he didn’t interact much with the young driver, he sent him a message to see if he could help with getting his daughter her very own helmet and boots. He had to convince Lando that, no, his daughter didn’t need his design on her helmet to match his sister Flo’s, but he did set her up with a shiny pink helmet and the best boots he could find.
After a few more months of riding and a conversation with his girlfriend, her mother, he had a surprise in store: her very own horse. He didn’t want to rush into it and again had Lando and Flo’s help, as well as some help from the instructor they’d all gotten to know over her time at the stables. After a month of searching, he narrowed it down to a few choices and sat down over breakfast with her.
“Bebita,” he kissed her head as he sat down at the breakfast table while she ate her cereal.
“Good morning, Papa,” she greeted back.
“So,” he began. He couldn’t help but smile as he got ready to tell her the news.
“You’re being silly, Papa,” she giggled.
“You’ve been enjoying horse riding?”
She nodded vigorously, “Yes! My instructor said I have been doing really well, and she said we can start learning to canter!”
He swallowed anxiously but kept up his smile, now knowing how his parents and girlfriend felt every time he drove around the track at 180 mph. “That’s wonderful news!” He matched her excitement. “So, bebita, Mommy and I have been thinking and were wondering if you would maybe like your own horse?”
The little girl couldn’t contain her excitement as she practically threw her chair back and launched herself into his arms. “Seriously, Papa? My own horse?”
He laughed as he held her tight, unable to stop smiling as she practically buzzed with excitement. “We can go and see the horses today, and if you like one, yes, bebita, you can get your very own horse!”
His little girl couldn’t contain her excitement as she practically shoveled down the rest of her cereal and sprinted upstairs to get ready.
When they pulled up to the ranch, a stable hand greeted them. Isabella’s eyes widened as she saw the row of stalls with horses lining either side. “We’ve got a variety of ponies and horses perfect for beginners and more experienced riders,” the stable hand showing them around explained, “Feel free to take your time and see if you feel a connection with any.”
Fernando watched with his wife as Isabella let go of his hand and went from stable to stable, stopping to talk to the horses and stroking their noses as they nuzzled into her.
After seeing a few of the ponies, she got to the next stall and stood still, her little mouth opened as she eyed the majestic black horse before her. He was larger than any of the others they’d seen with his glossy black coat and proud stance. His dark eyes stared at her with curiosity. She read the name on the stall: Diablo.
She held out her hand, and the horse gave it a sniff before letting out a snort and rubbing into her hand. Fernando could already see she’d fallen in love as the horse nuzzled into her side and bumped her hand looking for more affection.
As he came to her side, suddenly the horse looked even bigger; then he saw the nameplate on the stable door. “What about the little black and white pony we saw earlier, hmm? He looked very nice,” he tried to coax her into the kinder looking and smaller pony they’d seen.
“No, Papa. This is the one! He looks just like the one on the Ferrari cars!” She bounced excitedly.
His girlfriend squeezed his hand gently, grounding him. “If that’s the one she wants…”
With smiles and pleading from both his girls, he couldn’t say no.
The stable hand came over and smiled as he watched the interaction between Diablo and the small girl. The size difference was quite comical. “Don’t let his name fool you,” he said to Fernando as he saw the concern on his face, “He really is a wonderful horse. He’s gentle and well-trained.”
He looked at his daughter, who was happily talking with Diablo and stroking his nose. “I guess we’ll take Diablo.”
They completed the paperwork and made the arrangements for Diablo’s care and transfer to the stables where she rode. The bond between them was already evident, and it warmed his heart more than anything else to see his little girl happy.

hellooo this might be kind of a silly question lol, but do you think you can learn to ride at any age? i've always loved horses but i've never really been around them. i've been contemplating signing up for lessons at this stable thats opened up near where i live, but doing just the bare minimum research into what to expect has me a little overwhelmed lol. since you've been posting about riding again, i was wondering if you had any tips or advice for someone who is a complete beginner :')
yes!! i’m a firm believer that anyone can learn at any age - all you really need is the desire and motivation to learn!
i completely understand feeling overwhelmed. there’s SO much to the entire thing, both regarding the riding itself and handling horses on the ground. i would recommend reaching out to the stable and asking basic questions about their establishment, like what to have in mind as a beginner! all stables have different ways of doing things, and a big part in feeling relaxed as a beginner is knowing what to expect.
i have no experience being a complete beginner at an adult age, but i do of course have experience of returning after many years out of the saddle. something that’s been very important to me is to find out a lot about the place i’ve been going to and most of all, not be afraid to ask questions that might seem silly. it’s much better to ask one time too many, especially in an environment where safety is so important.
if you’re feeling nervous or scared or uncertain - let people know! don’t push yourself to do something scary, instead let the instructor know that hey, this makes me anxious, and i might need some help. that goes for anything, both on the ground and in the saddle!!
as a returning rider i booked myself a private lesson with an instructor to get used to the feeling in a safe environment with no distractions as i find it difficult to be in a group setting. not all stables offer that though, but you can always ask! private lessons aren’t on a weekly basis (at least where i ride), but instead an extra hour of learning that you can have a few times throughout the term.
however, as a complete beginner it’s very beneficial to be in a group. you learn to not only keep track of yourself and your horse, but also how to manage being surrounded by other people on horses! and in a group where everyone is new, you have a chance to make some long lasting friends if you want to. it could also be calming to know that you likely aren’t the only one who is super nervous.
this advice probably is a little diffuse, so please don’t hesitate to ask more specific questions!! id be happy to try to help you.
but in short - talk to them and sign up!! you won’t regret getting to know these precious animals <3
edit: just wanted to add!!! my mother, who had never in her life been on horse before, started riding in her mid-40s and although she stopped after a few years she still thinks of it as one of the best things she ever did!! :’)

I don't know if you've ever been asked this question, but I was wondering:
Did you learn to draw somewhere, or were you self-taught? Maybe you have some tips or hints for beginners? What was your favourite thing about drawing?
Sorry if this ask is too personal, but I really like your drawing style and wanted to ask some advice :D Have a good day! 🌸
it's a mix of both, really! i grew up loving art from the very beginning, like. im talking about making teletubbies fanarts and asking my dad to make me learn to draw characters from w.i.t.c.h. and tomb raider fandsndfs, according to my parents i had a pencil in my hands before i even started talking -- and that's what led me to actually learn to draw "properly", first in a art-centered high school (that. did less than good to me tbf but it was a matter of 90% of the art-related teachers being garbage) and the comics academy in torino where i think i started to truly "understand" what i wanted from my art style
if i may give some advices other than the good ol' "keep practicing and try to at least doodle something once a day", i could go with:
don't compare yourself to other artists negatively, especially those younger than you. it's probably the hardest part, but you need to "force yourself" to be positive. if you find yourself thinking "this 14 years old draws better eyes than me", go with "i love how they draw eyes, let's see if i can learn from it"
copy copy copy copyyyyy!!!!! copy from references, copy from photos, copy from comics, copy from movies. of course don't plagiarize people and then present that stuff as your own, but try to make a pose yours and learn to take pictures of your own hands, feet, face or ask people to pose if you can't find the right position
your art will look like shit to you, a LOT of times, but know that at one point you're going to quit. if you don't like what you're drawing, either quit there or restart, don't try to "fix" it because you'll just end up noticing more and more issues with it - issues that, most of the times, aren't even issues to begin with. letting go of perfectionism is very difficult, but at some point you'll have to do that--
and about perfectionism, a VERY good exercise we did in comics school was being forced to "draw fast". this isn't me telling you you NEED to draw as quick as possible, but it's an exercise that forces you to learn quickly where certain body parts go, to prioritize specific details rather than others. we had a model, and at first we had to sit there for an hour drawing her, then the hour became 30 minutes, then 10, then 5, and at the end 1. it took us a few lessons to do that, but at the end the super sketchy 1 minute copy went from ???? to a stylized human figure!!!
learn to draw realistic anatomy, and then make it your own style.
for the love of god learn prespective it's a bore it's a chore but as soon as you learn that everything becomes SO much easier
for shading, just. put a point in the canvas where the light source is and go from there!! if the light is on the right, the shades will be on the left
if you're coloring, play with the shades' colors. a good idea is to use the opposite color you use for the lights - if the light is yellow, the shades look great in purples, for example just don't use pure black unless you wanna go for a more dark/noir aesthetic oh my god
professional comic artists retrace a lot of their backgrounds. i'm js. use this as you wish :)
learn to draw different body shapes!!!! like getting out of the anime phase of "fat people are just like thin people but with a huge belly" can be difficult, but it's very satisfying
go out of your comfort zone. if you have problems drawing horses, spend a few days learning to draw horses. take some pics and try to understand them.
body proportions are so fun once you realize how so many things are the same. generally speaking, your spread hand is as long as your face, your feet and half the size of your arm; the outer corner of your eye is at the same level of your ear, and the inner corner is perpendicular to your nose and the corner of your mouth; if you leave your arm on your side, your elbow is at the same level of your bellybutton, and your fingers reach halfway your thighs. it's so fun
and yea, i can't stress it enough. it'll take time. art is painful, art is stressful, art can be discouraging. take a step at the time, accept some failures and celebrate any good thing - even the smaller ones. you learned to draw hands today, and you should be proud. i tried to draw a cat for the first time and it looks wonky, but the cat you will draw tomorrow will look better. i believe in you

Giddy’ Up! | Huang Renjun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
↳ Prologue: “Your attitude in this situation is despicable.” + “I know, it’s because I’m done with your shit.”
↳ The Summary: You’re a newly beginner at horse riding. Renjun works at the stables and you ask him to give you a leg up.
↳ The Warnings: Enemies to ???. Crack. Bickering, lots of it. Horse riding. Fem reader. Suggestive flirting ig. Stable Rider Renjun <3
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
It’s the new year and you solely decided that you haven’t been that involved into hobbies in the year of 2022. You really wish to change that.
So when 2023 came along you signed up for horse riding lessons at the HUANG WENQIAN stables on the outskirts of your city. It’s a long ride from the stables and back home, like a half an hour drive but it’s worth it because lately you’ve been falling in love with the way the breeze hits your forehead as you gallop with your horse Sapphire. Throughout the woods and the hills down, having the fullest trust from your partner as you carefully tread on the reins and letting Sapphire feel free just as much as you do.
For once no worries perceive your setting. You are away from your phone that you were so addicted to be on before. Away from the corrupted social media. No one to bother your peaceful tranquil space.
You long to feel like this forever, truly, it is a sensation that nothing will ever come on top.
Your hands smooth the surface of the horse riding uniform, the smooth silky leggings as well as its silk-thin top. Hanging by the wooden cloak occupied by many other riders’ helmets, you push the one on the tippy top catching it; with your initials on. Smiling you push the helmet on your head and click it stuck on. Now you make your way to the stables. Getting out with Sapphire by the reins in your hands.
“Hey girly, how are you?” You sweetly coo at the horse that neighs in response, tucking on the horse shoes. You smile lightly ruffling its neatly groom hair and back.
Sapphire was never good with other people, especially people riding her. But when Sapphire laid eyes on you she seemed to be tolerant of you. Despite you being a new rider she had so much trust in you than she could ever put trust in a professional rider. Your trainer told you once that it’s not the rider that picks the horse. It’s the horse that chooses the rider and when they do, they become inseparable. Somehow you feel like this was the perfect explanation for you and Sapphire’s bond. She gets you. You get her.
However there was one thing you are internally struggling on when riding on Sapphire. It’s more like a ‘you’ problem.
You can never seem to get up on any horse without having internal panic rush over you. Sapphire doesn’t really do well with anxiety. In fact once she feels you being stressed she starts getting stressed out and then in attempt she would kick you off the back and you’d be rejected officially. You can’t help but sigh out loud as you gulp pushing your shaky foot on the saddle.
It’s just one leg, one leg up and you can get it over with. You thought mentally.
But the tallness of the mare really makes you irk with flooding overthinking thoughts. Since when did Sapphire become so tall? You never realise it until you begin to worry.
“What are you waiting for?”
A deeper voice strikes you from behind with curiosity and judgement. It was one of the rider’s and the son of the owner at the stables that works here. You turning around with widen eyes as you slowly look at Sapphire with a nervous laugh.
“What? Oh nothing…” You trail and Renjun scoffs. “Then hurry and Giddy up. You’re crowding the pathway.” The boy replies as he puts down the metallic bucket full of cleaning products. Looking like he was going to clean the horse stables in a minute.
You chew on your inner cheek deeply in thought. Maybe asking for help from Renjun would be a good thing? Surely he won’t judge you. He’s a rider himself. But why can’t you bring out the words from your quickening mouth that opens yet no voice comes out. Renjun saw the way your lips part, as if you have something to say, but soon you close them once again.
He sighs frustrated looking at you. “What do you have to say come on. Spit it out.”
“Can you give me a leg up?”
Renjun couldn’t help but replay your words, he was stunned in disbelief. You were struggling getting on your own horse all this time? A natural skilled horse rider like you has been fidgeting their nervous anxiety about feeling embarrassed to ask for help. For a leg up. He looks away before chuckling lightly, slight irony you feel. “Is that what made you stand like a fool while looking around like a lost puppy?” He spat and you flinch. Embarrassed for life of god. “Shut up and help me please!” You whisper shout at him, now slightly demanding and Renjun crosses his eyebrows together at your sudden outburst.
He was only teasing. You weren’t having it though. Your pinkish cheeks huff, as your resting gloomy eyebrows ease as you turn around waiting for the guy to lift your leg up. Sapphire standing still waiting for you to get on finally.
Renjun walks behind you as he mutters lines of disagreement. “I can’t believe my father let you ride such a talented horse when you can’t even get on it yourself.”
Your lips fell into a thin line as you turn around about to give him a lifetime of your scolding. You falter back when noticing Renjun was far too close to you from behind, you could feel the way his chest was breathing and his head looking down at you as he was so much taller than you.
“Your attitude in this situation is despicable.” You sneer at the rude boy who raises his eyebrows, pushing his palm on your shoulder and twisting you around so he can see you facing the horse and your back facing him. You yelp in surprise with how much of a grip to his hands and strength he has on him, but it shouldn’t be that surprising. Horse riders naturally gain muscle and good posture as well as strength and become much more leaner when doing this professionally for work. However your mind goes off the fact that he is much more muscular than he looks and back to the fact that his hands slid from your back and down to the bag of your legs.
“I know, it’s because I’m done with your shit.”
He replies lowly as his hands steadily grab your foot lifting you up in the air. You felt your entire weight push up and soon your right leg over the horse as you slid on the saddle safely. Sapphire gnaws a happy snort as if she was proud of you for getting on top of her as much as she was waiting for a long time.
You sigh out with relaxation easing your lower body now. Renjun watched the way you naturally felt so much more calmer on top of Sapphire and the way your thighs ease down and relax, letting Sapphire gently trot ahead, walking calmly, it wasn’t no lie when his father said to him that he found a naturally talented rider that Sapphire trusts.
At first he did not believe his father. It was nearly impossible for Sapphire to trust Renjun and he was skilled with so many stubborn and wild horses before. Yet Sapphire never paid a single attention to him. Instead she chose you.
It was heavenly to see you ride Sapphire so calmly. As if you were one soul. One breathe. One walk. One talk. You were a whole together. Each other’s halves.
You saw the way Renjun would admire you from afar in the racing course. The way the sunset bouncing behind yours and Sapphire skin, glowing and emitting off your radiation and the way your sprinting becomes slower. Approaching him finally after Sapphire jumping over the pole and on the side of the fence that the Chinese boy was leaning the beautiful slender body on, you come off Sapphire and lean on the fence too.
You slid up sitting on the large fence as Renjun next to you clears his throat. You lightly smirk breaking the silence.
“You were pretty mesmerised by me over there.” You told him as he looks up at you. “You were pretty good in today’s training.” He confesses.
It would be a first time to hear a breathtaking compliment leave the boy’s lips when all he did was pretty much go against whatever you have a say in. But not today. Renjun felt like a gentle loving soul you wish to touch and give a hug to whenever you come across him. It left a bittersweet aftertaste on your tongue for sure, because you couldn’t believe what he said. It felt like a lie. Because he never once given a damn compliment to you until now.
You scowl. “What happened to Huang Renjun and what did you do with him?”
The boy side eyes you with a glare before sighing. “Awh my gosh Y/n take the damn compliment already. It feels awkward saying it as it is.” He practically pleads to the heavens above as you let out a soft chuckle. A shy creeping smile crafts on your beautiful face as the sunset in the distance sets this romantic atmosphere. With sapphire in the background walking around enjoying the freedom.
You mutter out carefully. “Do you mean it?”
Renjun softly looks at you as his gaze becomes a mush of emotions you couldn’t quite collect nor analyse what it was. It definitely wasn’t the usual emotions of hostility or bickering you’d do with each other. He leans closer to you, humming with his oozing angelic and sugary voice.
“That you’re a clueless know-it-all or the fact that today you’ve done a good job?”
There goes the sweet Renjun persona away. You cough out and roll your eyes. “And he’s back, forget I asked …” you mutter in disappointed about to walk away and grab Sapphire so you could put her back into the stables, but a hand grabs you holding your wrist and twirling you around in the soft breeze as you fell closer to the fence and over now in front of Renjun’s face.
He lets out a quick laugh that catches your body off guard. You haven’t heard him laugh, like ever, at some point in your stay at the stables you thought he was incapable of laughter or smiling but here he was. The soft angelic looking man as if he were written by a woman, smiling, laughing with his beautiful eyes curling with love. You weren’t sure what Renjun was doing today…but you wish you see more of this. More of the happiness written on the boy so you can rest easy at night knowing he is okay. You don’t want the strict, grumpy and pessimistic gloomy looking boy.
“I was joking, Y/n.” He smiles.
You shot back sassily landing a hit right on his heart, but even so, he can’t help but enjoy the banter you were so comfortable doing with him. “I wasn’t aware you were capable of making a joke, Huang.”
“Oh I’m capable of much more sweetheart.” He points out cockily rocking his head on the side.
“Oh yeah?” You pause. “Show me what you’re capable of then.”
He smirks before caressing the side of your face pulling you closer. If you had to blame your hormonal thoughts you would, but lord was it impossible to not think such things about a guy pulling you closer when…
Your thoughts were interrupted by a horse pushing you guys apart. Sapphire was not having this cheesy romantic kiss at all, not in front of here were you going to get a chance.
You gasp. “Sapphire!” You crack an open smile when Renjun lets out a soft chuckle laugh.
“Looks like someone’s jealous.” Renjun said.

fyi for the mdzs star stable / any equestrian au really my headcanons are
WWX: has the capability to be a pro equestrian in pretty much any field he chooses, but rarely competes and prefers to host riding lessons for kids and do trail rides with Suibian instead. Usually rides bareback
LWJ: dressage and English showjumping pro. Famous for composing his own music for his routines. His secret desire is for Wei Ying and Suibian to perform a routine he choreographed
JC: also a pro showjumper because of his family's legacy but yearns for a career in barrel racing. He most often uses an inherited heirloom western saddle from his mom and Zidian loathes to wear anything except for it. Enjoys trail riding with wwx, but isn't very good at hosting classes or rides for beginners
NHS: was expected to carry on the Nie family's history of combined driving, but his heart horse is a dinky little pony. Pretty much only does short trail rides because he claims he gets too sore from long ones. Has taught his pony a lot of random circus tricks though, jumping through hoops is her favorite

4 Different Horse Riding Mistakes (And How To Avoid Them)
Are you looking to become a stronger horse rider?
Horse riding brings a range of health benefits or Benefits Of Horseback Riding
But just as with a lot of other things in life, riding a horse is not as easy as it may look.
There are plenty of newcomer mistakes that will not only make you stand out as a novice but may also keep you from being able to handle your horse and ride safely.
If you want to improve your skills and become a more confident and capable rider, here are 4 common mistakes (and how you can avoid them).
Ready to start riding? Check out your very own premium Beginner’s Horse Riding Pack!
Mistake #1 - You’re Holding On Too Tight
Mistake: One of the most common rookie mistakes is holding onto your horse too tight.
Your horse is almost always going to attempt to go faster than you might want to. Therefore, no matter how much you attempt to hold your horse back, you can expect him to speed away. After all, the horse’s head is held up high and its mouth is typically open which can keep him in a non-relaxed state.
How to avoid it: While it might seem like something you shouldn’t do as a newcomer, you want to loosen the grip in order to allow your horse to get in a much more relaxed riding position.
This will allow your horse to lower its head which can keep the horse from speeding off.
The reins are designed to be an effective two-way communication device that you use to guide your horse. It is not intended to act as a manual brake. You should look to ask your riding instructor and/or trainer how to effectively cue your horse with the reins and release the pressure properly.
Mistake #2 - You Have Poor Posture
Mistake: Having poor posture is something that we know is important but we rarely do anything about it.
Good posture is very important for horseback riding. You should be looking to sit up in the chair with your legs forward and without slouching. You shouldn’t engage too hard with your stirrups. Instead, you want to keep them fully relaxed next to your horse.
How to avoid it: To ride perfectly balanced, you will want to keep your body’s center of mass in line.
Keeping everything including your shoulders and hips facing forward and in an upright and vertical position for the best balance while riding.
You can hack this type of position by rolling your pelvis in a forward motion in order to keep your legs much further apart than you might otherwise be able to. You can then breathe in deeply and allow your lower back to relax and allow your legs to effectively be positioned to the sides of your horse.
Mistake #3 - Your Horse Isn’t Still During The Mount
Mistake: When you are looking to mount your horse, you want to avoid hopping alongside the side of your horse with only one foot in your horse’s stirrup.
This is dangerous and shouldn’t be attempted while your horse is moving. The overall way you end up mounting your horse will dictate the tone and your relationship with the horse itself. Therefore, you want to ensure that you are doing it properly.
A lot of horses might be testing you during this mounting process to determine how it should behave. Another reason might be simply due to the horse having a lack of training. Regardless, you need to mount the horse properly prior to beginning the riding session.
It’s important to note that you might be causing the issue with the mounting process on your own.
How to avoid it: When mounting, you should look to implement one of the techniques that work best for you.
One option would be to simply bring the horse’s head toward you as you mount which can make it much harder for the horse to move around.
Another option would be to keep the rein relaxed and to hold the horse in place with the other rein (located outside).
Others might even keep the reins completely relaxed and verbally command their horse to remain in a set position.
You always want to ensure that your horse remains in a steady position even after being mounted to reinforce the fact that they are not to move until given the ‘OK.
Mistake #4 - You’re Not Paying Attention
Mistake: Even those that are considered experienced riders might fail to pay attention at all times.
When you are beginning to learn how to ride, there is a lot going on and a lot that you have to remember. However, one thing that you should always have in the forefront of your mind is that you should keep your head in a forward position and always look where you are going.
How to avoid it: Always look where you are trying to go.
Believe it or not, your horse is able to dictate where they are supposed to go by simply following the cues that come from your body and head positioning. Not only that, but it will keep you much more balanced and it can help you enjoy the ride much more.
Avoid making these 4 common mistakes and you’ll be well on your way to becoming a stronger rider.

Overcoming Fear: Tips for Beginner Horse Trainers
Starting your journey in horse training as a beginner can be both exciting and intimidating. Horses are large, powerful animals, and it’s natural to feel a sense of fear or apprehension when working with them, especially if you’re new to the experience. However, overcoming this fear is crucial for building a successful and fulfilling relationship with your horse. Here are some practical tips to help you conquer your fears and become a confident horse trainer.
1. Acknowledge Your Fear
The first step in overcoming any fear is to acknowledge it. Understand that it’s perfectly normal to feel nervous when you’re beginner to horse training. Horses are intuitive animals and can sense your emotions. If you’re feeling anxious, your horse might pick up on that and become uneasy as well. Accepting your fear is the first step toward managing it effectively.
2. Educate Yourself
Knowledge is power, and the more you know about horse training for beginners, the more confident you’ll feel. Take time to learn about horse behavior, body language, and the basics of horse training. Understanding how horses think and respond to different situations will help you anticipate their actions and react calmly. Consider reading books, watching instructional videos, or attending workshops to build your knowledge base.
3. Start Small
Begin your training sessions with simple, low-risk activities to build your confidence. Groundwork exercises, such as leading your horse, practicing haltering, or grooming, are excellent starting points. These activities allow you to bond with your horse while establishing trust and communication without putting yourself in a situation that feels overwhelming. As you gain confidence, you can gradually move on to more advanced training exercises.
4. Practice Consistency
Consistency is key in horse training for beginners. Regular practice helps you become more comfortable around horses and familiar with their behaviors. Set up a consistent training schedule that includes daily or weekly sessions. Over time, this routine will help reduce your anxiety as you become more accustomed to handling your horse.
5. Seek Support
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you’re feeling particularly nervous about a specific aspect of horse training, consider seeking advice from a more experienced trainer. Joining a local horse training group or community can also provide you with valuable support and encouragement. Sometimes, having someone by your side to guide you through the process can make all the difference in overcoming your fears.
6. Focus on Breathing and Relaxation
When you feel your fear starting to take over, practice deep breathing and relaxation techniques. Take slow, deep breaths to calm your mind and body. This will not only help you stay calm but also prevent your horse from becoming anxious. Remember that horses are sensitive to your emotions, so maintaining a relaxed demeanor will help your horse feel more at ease as well.
7. Visualize Success
Visualization is a powerful tool for overcoming fear. Before each training session, take a few moments to visualize yourself working confidently and successfully with your horse. Picture the steps you’ll take and imagine the positive outcomes. This mental rehearsal can help boost your confidence and prepare you for the actual training session.
8. Celebrate Small Victories
Finally, celebrate your progress, no matter how small. Overcoming fear in horse training is a gradual process, and every step forward is a victory. Whether it’s successfully leading your horse through an exercise or simply feeling more comfortable around them, acknowledging these achievements will motivate you to keep going.
Conclusion
Overcoming fear is an essential part of horse training for beginners. By acknowledging your fears, educating yourself, starting small, and seeking support, you can gradually build your confidence and become a more effective trainer. Remember, patience and consistency are key, and with time, you’ll find that your fears will diminish, leaving you with a rewarding and enriching experience in horse training.
